Unlocking the Cost of Your Hotel Booking Website: A Deep Dive
Tumblr media
In the ever-evolving travel landscape, a robust hotel booking website is no longer a luxury, but a necessity.
Whether you're venturing into the online hotel booking space or seeking to expand your existing business, understanding the cost involved in building a user-friendly and functional website is crucial.
This blog delves into the key factors influencing the cost of your hotel booking website, empowering you to make informed decisions.
Website Design and Development
Complexity: A basic website with essential functionalities like search, booking, and payment options will have a lower cost compared to a feature-rich platform offering interactive experiences and personalized recommendations.
Customization: Opting for a pre-designed template can be more budget-friendly, while custom website design allows for a unique brand identity and caters to specific needs, impacting the cost.
Development Team: Hiring an in-house development team can incur significant salaries, benefits, and infrastructure costs. Partnering with a reputable hotel website design company with expertise in this domain can offer a cost-effective alternative.
Additional Features:
Advanced Search and Filter Options: Allowing users to filter by location, amenities, price range, and guest reviews adds value but increases development complexity and cost.
Multilingual Support: Catering to a global audience by offering multilingual support necessitates additional development effort and ongoing translation costs.
Integration with Third-Party Platforms: Integrating with payment gateways, channel management systems, and loyalty programs can enhance functionality but involve additional costs for development and potential ongoing fees.
Maintenance and Ongoing Costs
Content Management System (CMS): A user-friendly CMS empowers you to manage website content and updates independently, reducing reliance on developers and potentially lowering costs.
Hosting and Security: Choosing reliable hosting and robust security measures ensures website uptime and data protection, incurring fixed monthly or annual costs.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Implementing SEO strategies improves website visibility in search engine results, potentially requiring ongoing investment in content creation, technical SEO optimization, and potentially, marketing campaigns.
Determining the Right Budget
The cost of your hotel booking website can vary significantly based on your specific requirements, desired features, and chosen development approach. It's essential to prioritize features based on your target audience, business goals, and budget constraints.

Underrated Travel Hacking Tips for Everyone
Tumblr media
I haven’t taken a vacation for the last three years with good reason regarding the severity of the global health crisis and the economy of the US. Inflation is at an all-time high and the cost of everything from groceries to clothing increased.
On one of my work lunch breaks, I stumbled upon a YouTube video from professional, full time travel vloggers who enjoy saving money. I saw that the Youtuber went on a “travel hacking” trip around the world to save up miles and points for two weeks. I personally would not like to spend only a day in different countries while spending so much money to fly there. Also, I don’t want to pay the annual fees for travel credit cards. Therefore, I decided to do my own research to see which tips could work for any frugal traveler.
·         Link your accounts: Delta SkyMiles and Instacart have a partnership. Everyone needs groceries. I order from Costco every week to support my family and we buy the necessities (milk, meat, fruits, and vegetables) only to cut costs. Every one dollar spent on Instacart is one and a half miles on Delta. It racks up quickly.
·         Bonus Tip: Instacart has a great deal when an order is placed within a three-hour window, the customer receives two dollars off their order. More money in your wallet!
·         Best Credit Card: Amazon Prime Rewards Visa is the most economical credit card that has no annual fee. I invested in an Amazon Prime membership in 2016 and never looked back. It is the only streaming service that I pay for. Majority of my purchases are from Amazon and I received five percent back with each order. It is two percent back on restaurants, gas, and drugstores. There is one percent back on all other purchases.  The points can be used to buy anything that Amazon has on their website.
·         SkyMiles Shopping: Airlines like Delta have their own designated website where a customer can earn airline miles with their purchases. Every company listed on the website has a specific number of miles that a customer can earn. I love fitness and I buy my workout clothes from the website. During the holiday season, I was able to earn three miles per every one dollar spent for a Delta flight by buying two tie dye sweatshirts.
With the information that I learned and stated above, I booked my flight to Hilo, Hawaii and I posted some photographs that I took below. It was heavenly paradise.

The magical sunset that I experienced from the summit at my hotel.
Tumblr media
It was so beautiful to see the aerial view of Hawaii from a helicopter and the scent of sea water was relaxing.

AO3 has released their finance spending today. They collected US $207,088.91 during this donation drive. Here is a comment we have responded to if anyone was wondering on why ao3's spendings are: not much in the legal parts, promotion, and why it cannot be a "free social media like normal influences" use. If you would like to see more on their expenses, breakdowns on purchases, etc, here is the link to their: official post.
We are happy AO3 has collected more than their goal and can keep our works alive. We hope everyone enjoys their fics for the many days to come.
Under the cut, we have written out what our comment was for those who can't read or see the picture.
Commenter:
I can't believe it takes half a million to run this site every year (with how little improvement/development actually goes into this site)… and legal fees are a drop in the bucket compared to 'promotion/outreach'… why not just use free social media like normal influencers? You don't need to go to conventions (flights, hotels, booths, etc.).
gvtted-ratz:
Ao3, in a way, is a free site for fanfics and works, just like a library is with history and books. The "little improvement/development" is quite a lot. According to the actual report here, "47.2% of the OTW's expenses go towards maintaining the AO3. This includes the bulk of our server expenses—both new purchases and ongoing colocation and maintenance—website performance monitoring tools, and various systems-related licenses, as well as costs..." The filtering system is very nice here and hard to find in other places. Legal fees would be for those lawsuits. "Legal's expenses consist of registration fees for conferences and hearings and funds set aside for legal filings if necessary.." So this is only for when it is needed. The people who work on this site dedicate much of their time to keep it running. Conventions help with the donating and spread the word of AO3's dedication to keeping fan fiction alive and protected. A "free social media" site would not work for this extensive library of literary fan works/original works. We hope this helps. (We are not part of OTW but thought we could help answer your question).

I'm back from Prague, the heart of Europe :)
Did I like it, idk. The city is very pretty. It actually made me a little sad because I kept thinking that if WW2 hadn't happened, a lot of German cities would probably look similar. I definitely didn't spend enough time in the city to really get to know it, especially since I arrived a day late due to a train conductor strike in Germany, also I went to the North of Czechia for a few days (but there I got sick and didn't explore as much as I wanted to).
Prague seems suuuuper overcommercialized though. I wasn't stupid enough to buy anything in the Old Town, but even excluding that it was still hard not to feel like the entire town was an amusement park ride which the people working there were trying to herd you through as quickly and profitably as possible. The souvenirs were very ugly, which was surprising. How do you work with a beautiful marvel of engineering like the Astronomical Clock and produce nothing but corny wood-cuts that get all the colours wrong and that you then ask for 1000Kč (about 40€) for? The Mucha merch everywhere was nice though. He's a little like Klimt in that you can exploit his work commercially as much as you want and it doesn't lose its magic, at least not to me. Indeed there was a lot of Klimt merch too! And then there were people selling their "original artworks". Many of the ones near the Clock were obviously AI-generated. The ones on the Charles Bridge might not have been, but many looked like prints, except sold as originals. Climbing a random tower costs 8€. Why. Does the city not pay for the upkeep? You can see the city for free from the castle grounds. And the "weed and absinthe stores" everywhere. Lololol.
The food was unreservedly great. The highlight of my day was lunch. It's all comfort food, meat, carbs and great sauces. I was surprised by the consistency of the bread dumplings - I thought they'd be like German potato dumplings, which are rather wet and slimy (in a pleasant way), but they were actually like extremely soft and swallow-able bread. I mean it is in the name. BREAD dumplings.
To me the town was a little too money-centered and convenient. Where's the sense of adventure. When I was in Malta last year - I mean that's a pretty touristy place too, but I still felt like there was a sense of exploration. You can do a lot of stuff for free there, there are tons of places on Malta where they don't try to sell you anything and you can just walk and see and explore. Or maybe it's just that Czechia is too close and too similar to Germany and that's why I got a little restless. Malta looked, sounded and even smelled completely different from what I'm used to, plus there's the strong religious aspect, and Czechia was not all that unfamiliar. I really wanted to do one of these Secret City Trails things but ended up not having the time. Really a lot of my opinions are probably due to my only having been in the town for 3 days. But my favourite moment of the entire journey was when I had to climb through a decommissioned train track bed to get where I wanted to go, but there was a ramp there because apparently that was just the normal way to get to the place, and I think that says it all.
Also saw my fav band live again, yaaay. It was great, except I stood behind the ten thousand tallest men in Czechia and didn't see super much. Next time I go to a concert I actually care about I'm just elbowing my way to the front, smh.
I whole-heartedly recommend Hotel Union to anyone going there. Weirdly enough, it's cheaper to book through booking dot com, where I usually only go to read reviews and then book directly on the hotel's own website.

do you guys wanna know something crazy (going on a work rant)
so back in like october, i flew out to take a course/exam for work (for which i had to sign a contract agreeing that i'd stay with the company for at least 2 years, or else i'd have to pay back the cost of the trip) with a coworker. we both passed the exam (weeee yaayyyy woooooo).
my coworker, who went with me, had his bonus taken away from him shortly after this, because he got angry at our new owners (because they were attempting to make him write up the contract we had to sign for this trip, and research the cheapest options for hotels, cars, and air travel, 3 days before the trip, on top of his workload. he refused to do this, saying that he offered to do this research months beforehand and was denied. instead, he booked whatever was easiest after they refused to do any of the research themselves, and then told them to get fucked. essentially). they gave me part of his bonus, saying it was because i passed the test, implying my coworker also got the bonus.
based on both of us passing, our new owners decided to send everyone in the company to the course/exam (they did not have to sign the contract we signed). of the 8 people they sent, only 1 passed, and he's the guy from my side of the company (all the other people who took the test were from the other company our new owners bought). i could have told them this was going to happen, for a myriad of reasons. such as: nobody else wanted to take the test, there's no incentive for them to do well on the test, and also the other company literally doesn't know what they're doing, and all of their processes go against federal policy.
after the results came out, the guys from the other company told my coworker "the entire time we've worked alongside your company up to now, we thought you guys were stupid. but i guess maybe you know more than we thought". as. a compliment? <- this wasn't news to us anyways. they weren't subtle about it. just shocking that they thought this was a thing that should be said out loud.
our owners hiked all of our service prices 10-15% based off the fact that our techs are "rigorously trained to industry standard". our website is filled with incorrect information, and offering services we can't perform, because the people who wrote it don't know what we do.
we lost two coworkers from our side of the company, and the owners said they wouldn't be hiring anybody to fill those roles, because we "have enough people" <- we're currently working 50 hour weeks (we get shouted at for having overtime, so they don't like this), and if one of us gets sick or has vacation, we're unable to service everyone we need to each month (we are an industry that works with state and federal companies, who are required to have their equipment certified bi-yearly, and who will be fined for missing those dates.)
anyways things are going well 👍

Tomorrow aka Sat 1st July 2023, tickets for a lesser known but utterly amazing Discworld event will go sale.
Llamedos Holiday Camp is the place that the Discworld books put in the head of the Camp Director.
We are sure that at some point, the Goddess Narrartivia would have shouted about it very loudly at Terry in the hope he would have written about it, but she didn't get that chance so she seeded the idea in the Camp Directors head instead.
Llamedos Holiday Camp (LHC) is run by an ex assassin Rwby, she graduated from the Assassin's Guild in Ankh-Morpork with ease, but she liked the idea of going home to Llamedos and found herself running a camp for those who wish to be "A Disc-world away...."
She employed a tema she called her PurpleCoats, some of which are a local Druid known as Dai the Druid, Megghie the cleaner, Tim Vimes a comedian, Beryl Ogg and eventually Mistress Weatherwax showed up and announced herself as the Head of Entertainment.
Rincewind stopped in whilst running away from something and the camp found itself a head of sports as a result.
In the past there has been events at Llamedos Holiday Camp, the Dragon Trials (Crufts for Swamp Dragons) and a small WItch Trials commitee showed up one year and this year, the local Scout association the Llamedos Pathfinders, asked if they could run a Discworld Scout Jamboree at the camp.
So for 2024 the Llamedos Holiday Camp Scout Jamboree is the place to be!
With Scouts from all over Discworld convening on the camp, Rwby decided that they should provide some exclusive activity badges and make it a small but fun competition.
There are 10 Scout regions on the Disc, and Rwby thought they would enjoy the challenge of competing to be the Best of the Best of the Best Discworld Scouts
Llamedos Holiday Camp is an event designed and run for adults.
We always say that our camp guests are a bit like the Nac Mac Feegles, they drink, they swear, they fight and they have an absolute blast.
There are no talks or panels at Llamedos Holiday Camp, it is all activty based with some shows where YOU are the star guest.
With just 160 Campers at the event, it is a small event with a Big heart.
Now the facts.
Tickets cost £135 per person for the weekend.
Your ticket includes your evening meals on Friday and Saturday (main course only), a ticket to our Costume Ball on Sunday and a Jamboree Essentials Knapsack which contains a neckchief, woggle, Scout Handbook and a variety of items that you will need for completely those all important activity badges.
Accommodation is not included, but we do have some options available. We have two hotels and a lawn upon which you can actually camp if you so choose.
Location - Llamedos Holiday Camp is located at The Diplomat Hotel in Llanelli, Wales. Yes we are in "Llamedos" !
Dates - Fri 1st March - Sun 3rd March 2024 - We run until Midnight on the Sunday and you really wouldn't want to miss our infamous Costume Ball.
Whats left to tell you?
Tickets sell quickly - we do operate a waiting list in case someone wishes to sell their ticket on at a later date (all resales MUST be done via our system or we invalidate the ticket).
Llamedos Holiday Camp tuns every two years.
Llamedos Holiday Camp is FUN and is run by the same people who also run Discworld Monthly .
(Discworld Monthly does NOT run Llamedos Holiday Camp though - separate companies)
Check out our website and hopefully we'll see you at a future Llamedos Holiday Camp event!

DREAM DESTINATION NEWYORK CITY
The United States is a vast and diverse country, offering a wide range of experiences for travelers. From bustling cities to serene natural wonders, there is something for everyone to explore and discover. Whether it's the iconic landmarks of New York City, the breathtaking beauty of the Grand Canyon, or the vibrant music scene in New Orleans, each destination in the USA has its own distinct charm.
One popular destination for travelers in the USA is New York City. Known as "The Big Apple," New York City is a melting pot of cultures and offers a myriad of attractions. Visitors can explore famous landmarks such as Times Square, Central Park, and the Statue of Liberty. The city is also renowned for its world-class museums like the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art. Additionally, Broadway shows, shopping on Fifth Avenue, and dining at diverse culinary establishments are all part of the unique experience that New York City has to offer.
Tumblr media
Another must-visit location in the USA is the Grand Canyon. Located in Arizona, this natural wonder is one of the most breathtaking sights in the world. The vastness and beauty of the Grand Canyon are truly awe-inspiring. Visitors can hike along its rim or venture into its depths on various trails. The canyon also offers stunning viewpoints where one can witness unforgettable sunrises and sunsets. Exploring this geological marvel allows travelers to connect with nature on a profound level.
Tumblr media
New Orleans, located in Louisiana, is another captivating destination in the USA. Known for its vibrant music scene, rich history, and unique cuisine, New Orleans offers a distinct cultural experience. Visitors can immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere of the French Quarter, where jazz music fills the air and street performers entertain passersby. The city is also famous for its annual Mardi Gras celebration, which attracts millions of visitors from around the world. Exploring the historic neighborhoods, indulging in delicious Creole and Cajun cuisine, and experiencing the warmth and hospitality of the locals are all part of the allure of New Orleans.
Accommodation costs can vary significantly depending on the location and type of accommodation you choose. In major cities like New York City or San Francisco, hotel prices tend to be higher compared to smaller towns or rural areas. To save money on accommodation, consider alternatives such as staying in budget hotels, hostels, or even renting a vacation home or apartment through platforms like Airbnb. Additionally, booking in advance and being flexible with your travel dates can help you find better deals.
Transportation: The United States is a vast country with a well-developed transportation system. When it comes to air travel, prices can vary depending on the time of year, airline, and destination. To find the best deals on flights, consider using flight comparison websites or signing up for fare alerts from airlines. If you are traveling within the country, domestic flights can sometimes be more affordable than long-distance train journeys. However, trains can offer a scenic and comfortable way to explore certain regions. For shorter distances or city exploration, public transportation options like buses or subways are usually cost-effective.
Food: Food expenses can vary depending on your preferences and dining choices. Eating out at restaurants can be relatively expensive in popular tourist areas or upscale establishments. To save money on food, consider exploring local markets and grocery stores where you can buy ingredients for self-catering meals. Many cities also have affordable food options such as food trucks, street vendors, or casual eateries that offer delicious meals at lower prices. Taking advantage of happy hour specials or dining during lunchtime when restaurants often have discounted menus can also help stretch your budget.
Tumblr media
Activities and Attractions: The United States offers a wide range of activities and attractions, but some can be quite costly. Prioritize the attractions that interest you the most and research their admission fees in advance. Many cities have free or low-cost attractions such as museums with suggested donations or public parks where you can enjoy outdoor activities. Additionally, consider purchasing city passes or attraction bundles that offer discounted rates for multiple attractions. Taking advantage of free walking tours or exploring nature through hiking trails can also be budget-friendly options.
How to get there:
To use the public bus in New York, just stand at the stop, and as your bus approaches, just signal with your hand that you want the bus to stop. Fares are $2.75 for standard buses, and $6.75 for express buses. Fares can be paid in cash, by MetroCard or using contactless via the OMNY system. If paying in cash, you need to give exact change, and be aware that only coins are accepted as fare – no bills.
Where to stay:
First, we spent a few nights at the budget-friendly Freehand Hotel. The Freehand is part hostel, with smaller-than-average rooms, great common areas (including a nice rooftop), and lower-than-average prices, and part boutique hotel, with stylish decor and good service.
Where to eat:
This temple of Jewish appetizing in Soho is over the top in every way and pulls it off entirely: The lox comes on towers, the waiters yell “HOT BAGELS!” whenever there’s a fresh batch out of the oven, the breakfast sandwich costs $18 (its worth it, almost), and the French toast is one of the best things you can eat in NYC.
What to see and do:
New York is undoubtedly one of the most popular destinations in the world, due not only to its museums, galleries, and Broadway shows, but also to its sporting events, shopping, and food areas. If you plan to visit this city,
To visit the Statue of Liberty, you must book your ticket or access pass, which includes a roundtrip ferry ride around the statue, so you can take great pictures of Lady Liberty.
Admission costs start at $31 USD per person, which depends on whether you want to access the pedestal, go to the crown of the statue,
Total budget:
Airfare:₱4670
Accommodation:₱8700
Food:₱990
Transportation:₱151.25--371.25
Attractions:₱1705
TOTAL-₱16,436.25
Not bad in 4days in the world s most expensive city

Summer is waving: Boracay remains AirAsia Philippines’ top island destination for 2024
Boracay, 16 February 2024 - Boracay continues to remain AirAsia Philippines’ fast-moving getaway destination for individual and group travelers prevailing over Bohol, Cebu, and Puerto Princesa.
Tumblr media
Latest AirAsia data shows that 250,000 guests have already planned and booked their flights to the island for travel from February, March, April, and May. This is already 72% of last year’s 377,000 guests flown to the island. The increasing figure is expected to contribute to Boracay’s economy, especially since the Department of Tourism and the Local Government of Aklan expect over 2.3 million tourists to visit the island this year.
“Boracay is top 3 in our most visited domestic destinations. It is not just the summer when we see an influx of guests flying to Boracay, but all year round. During the pandemic, this island was a haven for remote work set-up. Now, the island has regained its fame for short and long vacations”, AirAsia Head of Communications and Public Affairs and First Officer Steve Dailisan shares.
To provide more convenience, especially for guests who are planning to extend their vacation on the paradise island, the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline’s travel partner - TravelOnlinePH officially opened its Travel & Service Center right on the epicenter of Boracay to cater to tourists who would like to either have their tickets rebooked or book other flights elsewhere, find cheap hotels, activities, and other travel offerings, with the assistance of dedicated travel experts.
Tumblr media
Situated at Station 2, AirAsia’s Travel & Service Center is very accessible to guests since its location is also within close range of mid-range hotels, shopping malls, restaurants, and bars.
“Guests fly to the island to unwind and spend their holiday and we intend to always make their flight booking concerns hassle-free. TravelOnlinePH has always been an offline reliable partner and we extend our warmest congratulations as they achieve this milestone,” Dailisan added.

Outline a budget. Set the budget so you know what you’re working with from the get-go.
Consider time of day. There may be a time of day that fits you and your significant other’s personalities, party style, budget, or guest list best.
Wedding Party. It’s never too early to ask and get the commitment.
Research Vendors. Pick up some local wedding magazines and hit the net to scope out what’s out there.
Ask around. Ask a few friends for their advice and what they learned from planning their own special day.
The ones you love. Make sure the people that are important to you know how you would like for them to be included.
Consider wedding size. Will it be a large bash or a smaller more intimate gathering?
Help needed. Loved ones asking how they can help? Set up an online list of helpful tasks and allow them to sign up and help as they can.
Tumblr media
Location/Venue/Atmosphere
Book in advance. Many venues book up very far in advance. Narrow down a short list and make visits as soon as possible!
From here to there. Consider travel distance between ceremony and reception.
Back up plan. Outdoor venue? Consider weather influences and always have a “Plan B.”
Beautiful “As is”. Décor not your thing? Find a beautiful venue that already has a look you love.
Seasonal décor. If you’re getting married near a holiday or other special time of year, make sure to ask if the venue will be decorated in a special way.
Food and drinks. Ask about banquet permits and alcohol license needs. Don’t assume anything!
Consider room flow. You will want a space where you will be able to mix and mingle with guests easily.
Ask for referrals! See if your venue has recommendations for other vendors since they are likely to have worked well in the past.
Tumblr media
Guest list
Talk about it. It’s a conversation to have early on with your fiancé. Establishing a guest list can get VERY complicated if you don’t set parameters.
Traveling guests? Consider how many out-of-town guests you will have to plan for.
Lots of out-of-towners? Consider setting up activities for the weekend or couple days surrounding your big day so they can meet others and visit.
Discuss family needs. Who will you want involved in the ceremony, reception, etc.? Set clear expectations from the beginning.
Save the drama. Handle family issues with grace. Have conversations with those that may need to be reminded to put personal issues aside for one day.
Undercover agents. It’s not unreasonable to “assign” a trusted friend to keep an eye on a guest that you are worried about getting out of hand.
Keep people in the loop. Set up a wedding website where you can post important details that guests will need to know.
Hotels. It’s always nice for the couple to set up hotel options and block rooms for guests.
Welcome basket. Welcome traveling guests at the hotel with gift bags including a few simple treats or some information about the location where they are visiting.
Tumblr media
Budget
Discuss budget EARLY. Planning a wedding can get expensive and you will need to set parameters.
Who’s contributing? Give family members the chance to help financially however they feel comfortable.
Prioritize. Decide what is most important to you and your fiancé. Plan your budget accordingly so you don’t blow too much of it on a low-priority item.
Leave some reserve funds. There are always little things that will pop up later on, so don’t plan your initial budget estimates down to the very last dollar.
Plan for tips. Plan in advance for vendors that you will need to provide a tip to for day-of services.
Gifts. Many couples give gifts to the special people involved in their big day, like parents and bridal party members. Set money aside for this.
Consider assistance. Know someone who is great with money that has asked how they can help? Put them in charge of your budget to keep you accountable.
Establish a range. When speaking with vendors have a budget range in mind. This may eliminate some vendors before you get in too far.
DIY. Need to save in certain areas? Get creative. Enlist crafty friends and family to help you create the look and feel you are going for.
Tumblr media
The Ceremony
Select an officiant/pastor. Does your ceremony location provide one, or do you need to find your own?
Marital counseling. Are there any requirements you must meet before walking down the aisle?
Get your marriage license. That’s kind of important, err, necessary, and the ceremony won’t happen without one.
Consider the feel. Will your ceremony be formal or not?
Timing. Length of the ceremony may be something you want to discuss with whoever will be marrying you.
Vows! Discuss with your fiancé if you will be exchanging traditional vows or writing your own.
Kids or no kids. If you would prefer guests not bring children to the ceremony, make sure this is clear. You may even want to have childcare available.
Choose words wisely. Carefully consider scriptures, poems and songs that will be part of your day. Make it meaningful.
Guestbook. Have everyone sign a guestbook so you can look back on the special people who were a part of your big day!
Programs. Provide a printed program to guests when they arrive. If you need someone to hand them out, choose someone who may know the majority of guests – it’s a nice warm welcome!
Tumblr media
Reception Considerations
Does your caterer… cater? Whether you’ll be providing a sit down meal or hors d’oeuvres, make sure your caterer has options for those with diet restrictions.
Music sets the mood. Create the atmosphere you desire by choosing you music option with care. Will a DJ help to get the party going or is a live band more your style? Some may even opt for an iPod with a playlist.
Who’s directing traffic and flow? Make sure you have a point person for the reception activities. It is helpful to have someone keeping things on pace.
Money and tips. You my find that certain companies outsource people to handle day-of tasks. Ask in advance if it is necessary to tip those individuals.
Favors. Donate to a charity in your guests’ honor or provide an item they can use later, like a matchbook. Make it personal by having your initials printed on it.
Tumblr media
Selecting Wedding Vendors
Do your research. You want dependable people and companies involved so that you can stress less that day.
Create a short list. Researching vendors online and in magazines as well as collecting recommendations from others is a good place to start.
Hire a professional. If the task just seems too overwhelming, consider getting a wedding planner to help you shorten the list of options out there.
Don’t rush. It may take time to find the right people or companies to handle each task. Know it doesn’t all come together immediately.
Ask for proof. Are you going for a specific wedding theme – perhaps a beachy, rustic or theatrical flair? Find vendors that have created the look before and always have them provide examples of their work.
Use your head. Listen to recommendations from the vendor, but don’t be afraid to ask questions, negotiate or ask for other options.
Face to face meetings. You are juggling a lot, but it is still smart to meet in person and not take their website as their word.
Under pressure. If a vendor is putting unnecessary pressure on you to commit before you are ready, it may be a red flag. The goal is to feel good about the decisions you make.
Tumblr media
Pre-Wedding Celebrations
Bridal showers. Celebrate with friends and family at a bridal shower! Gather those you love for a more intimate-sized party a couple weeks or months before the big day.
Guests and gifts. If you have registered for wedding gifts, make sure you have plenty items on the list to accommodate all guests, and use stores that are convenient to those attending.
Don’t duplicate. If you are having multiple showers, watch for guest duplication. Inviting guests to more than one can make you appear selfish or unorganized.
Consider an engagement party. At an engagement party guests won’t feel obligated to bring a gift. The party can be elaborate or totally informal and include guys and gals.
Consider groups. If you run in several different circles and it seems overwhelming to try and include everyone, divide people into separate events.
Themed parties. Have party-throwers set up a themed shower where guests choose gifts with a certain idea in mind. Suggestions include a “stock the bar,” “kitchen essentials,” “barbeque,” or “around the clock,” where gests buy a gift based on a time of day.
Hostess gifts. Make sure you get a little something for the fabulous hosts that throw a little something special in your honor!
Bachelorette Celebration. Whether it’s a girl’s weekend away, a spa day or a fun girl’s night filled with your favorite activities, coordinate a fun way to celebrate your last days of being single in style.
Wedding Party Brunch. Some couples host a bridal party or family brunch prior to or early on the wedding day. Connect with those close to you before it gets crazy!
Tumblr media
Registry Tips
Consult a friend. Someone who has registered before may provide insight into what worked and what did not.
Focus on needs. Focus on necessities and think long-term when you are walking around the store scanning or on the website clicking.
Get creative! If you don’t need many standard household items, create a honeymoon registry, a registry where you encourage guests to buy stock in your name, or even a charity registry!
Groom’s registry. Creating a registry can seem boring and monotonous and let’s face it, your groom may not care what sheets you get. Yet, when it comes to the things he does care about, let him have some say!
Tumblr media
Go GREEN
Buy vintage! Consider a vintage wedding dress or choose eco-friendly attire.
Natural light. Choose an outdoor location or an earlier time of day so you can use less lighting indoors.
Email invitations! Coordinate your entire guest list, collect RSVP’s and even gather meal preferences through online sign ups; such as SignUpGenius.
Love the earth. Use eco-friendly paper for programs, favors or other paper needs. Now you can even find plant-able seed paper that can be printed with environmentally friendly ink!
Something borrowed. Borrow décor or rent it for less waste.
Go digital. Digital photos will save the money and chemical processing that goes into film photography.
Wedding website hub. Create a wedding website to get important information and dates out to your guests.
Tumblr media
Perfecting Your Wedding Day Look
Selecting a dress. When selecting your wedding day attire, keep an open mind! Try on many options and make sure you factor in comfort.
Be patient. Some brides “just know” the moment they put that dress on that it is made for them. If that’s not you, that’s ok. Take your time!
Veil. Whether it’s to the floor or short and sweet, a full headpiece or none at all, anything goes, so stick with the choice that’s right for you.
Dancing shoes. Choose comfy shoes and break them in before the big day.
Hair. Hire a professional or if you are able do your own hair, do it. Make sure to do a run-through before the day-of so you know what to expect!
Makeup. Keep it natural, clean and fresh. You may consider asking your photographer for any tips about what looks best in photos, but do not go outside of your comfort zone.
Emergency kit. Stock a day-of emergency kit with a couple essentials – lip gloss, hand lotion, band-aids, mints, a small comb and anything else could come in handy in a pinch!
Get rest! It may be challenging with all the excitement, but it will help you feel your very best.
Stay hydrated. Make sure you are drinking and eating so you stay healthy and nourished leading up to and during your wedding day.
Tumblr media
Document the Day
Discuss photography style. Choose a photographer that “gets” you and the style that you want.
Set up site for sharing. One great way to see all the photos from friends and family is to set up a photo sharing website where people can upload.
Make a list. Develop an image list for your photographer of “must-have” shots, so you don’t forget to get that photo taken with certain people or settings.
Photo booth fun. Many companies offer opportunities for your guests to get in front of the camera in a photo booth style set up – props and all. This can offer a lot of added fun for all.
No tech? Worried about people sharing dozens of photos on social media before you get the first look? Consider telling your guests you’d prefer to have a “no tech” wedding.
Tumblr media
Remember the Meaning of the Day
Plan ahead! Make sure things are done prior so you can actually enjoy your wedding day!
Marriage should be the focus. It’s wise to keep reminding yourself throughout the whole wedding planning process – it’s not just the wedding day that matters, it’s every day that comes after i
Stay grounded. Keep people close to you that can provide a sense of calm through the chaos and who can help you make good, quick decisions if need be.
Make time for the special people. Set aside specific time for those you are close to during your wedding weekend or the weekend will pass before you realize you didn’t get that extra time.
Express yourself. Exchange a card or letter to be opened the day-of the wedding – write something truly from the heart to the special person you will be sharing the rest of your life with.
Be thankful. On your wedding day, pause from time to time and take in all the love that surrounds you!
One-on-one time. Plan time with your groom amidst the craziness so you can connect.
Here’s to you creating the wedding you’ve always dreamed of. Best wishes as you set out on the wedding planning journey!

Spacebats IRL Meets @ Conventions (!?)
AKA “what do you call a gathering of Spacebats?”
So something I’d been thinking about for a while was ”what if the Spacebats / Entrapdaks actually meet IRL and would the universe implode if too many Entrapta fans were in the same room together?”
So the clogs in my head started turning…what would be a good way to get nerds in the same place? What kind of space would be 100% welcoming to everyone?
Of course the answer is simple…meet at the same Anime/Pop Culture Convention, even if the Convention is trash we can still have fun talking about Hordak’s butt ears and doing our own Post-Con things (like having a Cheeky Nandos)
For those of you unfamiliar with an anime/ pop culture Convention (henceforth going to be simply referred to as a ”Con”) it is a gathering of likeminded nerds to celebrate everything nerdy from anime to K-Pop to just quirky and silly things. Typically held over the course of three days. Some Cons have dedicated spaces for playing video games, taking photos, buying unique fan merch and of course cosplay (a short hand of Costume play). While not a requirement it can be fun to dress up as a favourite character or just admire other people’s cosplays. So there’s something for everyone.
With Cons being held all over the world if should be possible to find one that some Spacebats can attend at the same time So to start I’ve compiled a list of some of the most travel accessible (ie the ones that are easy to get to for as many people as possible) Cons for the European Spacebats.
American Spacebats are of course welcome to nominate and help others find their most travel accessible Con, as I’ve only been to GenCon SoCal and Pensacon I do not have enough experience with American Cons - please scroll down to the very bottom of this post for a blank form and fill it in to help your fellow Spacebats.
Okay so here’s the Cons I recommend starting with the Europe based listed under the cut:
Convention: AnimeCon NL
Location: Netherlands
Dates (actual/ expected): Early June
Website: https://animecon.nl/regular/en
Notes: Location varies, currently De Broodfabriek, Volmerlaan 12, 2288 GD. Next event is smaller AnimeCon Classic 2022 held in Theater Hotel Almelo 23-25 Sept but since the venue hotel is already booked out on it’s website I have not included it here
Travel:
Nearest Airport: Schiphol
Nearest Train Station: Rijswijk Direct
Public Transport available? Yes, Tram (purchase of an OV Chip Caard is recommend), Train
Free Water Fountains at Venue? No
Hotels:
https://animecon.nl/regular/en/location/hotels
Nearest Hotel average price: appox €100 a night
Location from Venue: varies
Transport to Venue: varies
Food:
Nearest Restaurant: varies
Nearest convenience store: Albert Heijin
Nearest Supermarket: Albert Heijin, Jumbo
Does venue have food available? Yes - Convention Food Stalls in the Food Court Average cost of venue food/drink: €9-13 for meal, €2.50-3 for a soft drink/coffee
Local Spacebat’s Recommendations:
(I’m not the Local for here BTW but been in Den Haag enough to know a few things). At the current location Den Haag (The Hague) is a good place to stay as it is is a single 30 minute tram ride away from Den Haag Centraal Station and Den Haag has a wild wide choice of supermarkets, restaurants and shops.
AnimeCon assigns venue locations a Zone colour with Red Zones not allow any food/drink or large bags/backpacks/shopping bags.  Smaller bags are allowed (25cm x 14cm x 7cm) which MUST fit in their sizing box (an exemption pass can be obtained for large bags required for medical reasons).  These restricted items can be stored for free in the Bag Room or placed in rented lockers.  As queues for the bag room can be long, I recommend hiring a locker in advance but please check and double check the sizing as the current lockers can only hold one (1) backpack and jacket comfortably, maybe two (2) backpacks at a squeeze.
Travel accessible for European Spacebats

There is also the Bear Grylss Adventure experience if the Con life isn’t for you and you feel like being Bow and shoot some arrows.

Does venue have food available? Yes, cafe and fast food
Average cost of venue food/drink: Venue’s meal deals for one person (sandwich or equivalent with snack and bottle of drink) are around the £10.  Convention food is around the same price
Local Spacebat’s Recommendations:
Event tickets can be mailed out (for a small fee) if ordered in advance.  If these tickets are Weekend or Priority Entry then the holder can skip the main ticket queue and walk in the main Custom House Entrance.
There are security bag checks on the entrances and bags will be checked by security upon re-entry.
Restaurants within the venue are nearby are going to be very busy post event. I would recommend taking the Elizabeth Line one stop (3 minutes ride) to Woolwich Arsenal where it will be much quieter and there is a larger selection of restaurants like Beef Eater (a fancy English “pub grub”), [Cheeky] Nando’s (Portuguese Chicken restaurant) and McDonalds.
Sometimes MCM will only allow Weekend Pass, Priority Pass or Disability Pass holders re-entry via the main entrance with ALL other pass holders being forced to re-entry via the ticket queue.  On the subject of re-entry MCM staff wouldn’t always mention the last re-entry time and will often stop ALL re-entry in the last hour or half hour of the event day.

Those are my main three, I could have gone on about other London Cons but they aren’t as easily accessible as those three  Yes there is the opportunity for Spacebats to stay at each other’s homes or rent an AirB&B I just listed options that would give us all some space - phew that was a lot of writing 😅
And now the Blank for other Spacebats to contribute their Con wisdom - hopefully the Hivemind can find something that we can work with and finally get to meet each other IRL!!

For India-Pak World Cup Game, Ahmedabad Hotel Prices As High As ₹ 1 Lakh
Rates for the October 15 India-Pak match at the Narendra Modi stadium indicate that there may have been an unusual amount of demand, according to prices on several hotel booking websites. While many rooms are already booked for that day, room rates have increased by over ten times.
Tumblr media
Ahmedabad: Since the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday announced the dates for the ODI World Cup, showing that India and Pakistan would play in Ahmedabad on October 15, hotel room costs here have increased dramatically—nearly tenfold in some cases.
The steep increase in the accommodation rate for October 15, when the arch-rivals face off, may have been the result of extraordinary demand, according to rates on several hotel booking websites.
