Catherine Elizabeth Middleton
A lot of people attack Catherine, and one of their favourite insults to use, is to call her lazy. There are many people out there that truly belive that Catherine hadn't worked before marrying William. So for those that are in doubt, I'm happy happy prove you wrong.
Despite being offered a seat at the University of Edinburgh, she took a gap year, studying at the British Institute of Florence in Italy and travelling to Chile to participate in a Raleigh International programme.
She worked as a deckhand at the Port of Southampton in the summer preceding university.
She worked part-time as a waitress during her studies.
Catherine was an active member of The Lumsden Club, which held fundraisers and community projects each year.
In 2006, Catherine commenced part-time work for twelve months as an accessory buyer with the clothing chain  Jigsaw
In 2007, she curated a photography exhibition to mark the book launch of "Time to Reflect", by Alistair Morrison, to raise funds for UNICEF.
In 2008, Middleton made several trips to Naomi's House Hospice, where she brought gifts and read to children.
she organised an '80s-themed roller disco fundraiser which raised £100,000, split between Oxford Children's Hospital, for the construction Tom's Ward to treat pediatric cancer, and Place2Be, an organisation which provides mental health counselling to school children.
Middleton also worked until January 2011 at the family business in catalogue design and production, marketing, and photography.
While working for the company, she launched the firm's junior brand for toddlers, and began working with the Starlight Children's Foundation, which helps terminally ill youth, providing party essentials for sick children.
Middleton also helped coordinate the Boodles Boxing Ball, which raised money for the charity.
And she did all of this Before she Married Prince William.

Capturing China in Nineteenth-century: the Photography of Isabella L. Bird
New Post has been published on https://china-underground.com/2019/08/18/capturing-china-in-nineteenth-century-the-photography-of-isabella-l-bird/
Capturing China in Nineteenth-century: the Photography of Isabella L. Bird
Isabella L. Bird (1831- 1904) was a writer, photographer, and one of the most well-traveled English explorers in the 19th century.
Related: The best old photos of China, amazing old maps of China, eunuchs of Imperial China, Facts, History & Combatants of the Boxer Rebellion, 20 rare pictures of Boxer prisoners during the late Qing Dynasty, The first photographs of Hong Kong, the Second Opium War, and Beijing, Felice Beato in 1860
Publisher: Earnshaw Books
Isabella Lucy Bird
Chinese Pictures was the last book published during her lifetime, and it contains 61 commented photographs.
The subjects of the photographs reflect the life of the writer in China: modes of transportation, city gates, paths, bridges, and waterways. Occasionally, Isabella took photographs and portraits of local people.
Isabella L. Bird was born in the north of England in 1831. She suffered from health problems as a child, and later from insomnia and depression and her doctor recommended that she travel.
At the age of 23, in 1854, she arrived in North America where she remained for several months.
Inspired by this experience, she wrote on her return, The Englishwoman in America.
A Bridge at Wan Hsien of the Single Arch Type
In 1875, after a six-month visit to the Hawaiian Islands, she wrote Six Months in the Sandwich Islands, another best-seller, followed by Lady’s Life in the Rocky Mountains, published in 1879.
Then she arrived in Japan, where she stayed for several months, traveling far and wide around the country working as an interpreter.
THE WEST GATE OF HANGCHOW
In 1870, following this experience, she wrote Unbeaten Tracks in Japan, published in 1880.
After Japan, Bird traveled to Hong Kong, southern China, Vietnam, Singapore, and the Malay Peninsula.
Back in England, Isabella was famous. Following the death of her husband, a doctor, a few years later, Isabella resumed her travels. In 1888 she arrived in India, where she traveled through Kashmir to western Tibet. From 1894 to 1898 she traveled to Japan, Korea, and China, risking being killed during an anti-foreigner uprising in Chengdu.
The Entrance to the British Legation, Beijing
The experiences lived during this period were told in the book The Yangtze Valley and Beyond, published following the growing interest aroused by the Boxer Uprising of 1900. The photographs shown in the book Chinese Pictures published by Earnshaw Books were all taken during that trip.
The Private Entrance to the Imperial Palace, Peking
Isabella began her journey as a photographer quite late. In 1894 she followed an advanced photography course at Regent Street Polytechnic. She traveled with two cameras and hired some assistants to arrange and transport the bulky photographic equipment of the time.
Isabella died a few years later, in 1904, without being able to return to China because of medical problems.
Returning from her last trip to Morocco, she died in Edinburgh.

Iona P&O Cruise Ship Interior

Iona P&O Cruise Ship Interior Design
25 May 2021
Iona P&O Cruise Ship
Architects: Jestico + Whiles
British cruise ship operator, P&O Cruises, has launched the latest addition to its fleet, Iona, with interiors designed by hospitality experts, Jestico + Whiles.
Britain’s largest and most environmentally friendly ship, powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) will accommodate up to 5,200 guests.
Iona was named in a spectacular ceremony broadcast to a virtual audience on Sunday May 16 and the ship’s maiden voyage will be on August 7, sailing the UK coast and up to her namesake island.
The award-winning interior design and architecture studio has designed most of the food and beverage spaces throughout the ship and the most spectacular space of all, the soaring triple-height Grand Atrium which captures unprecedented panoramic views across the ever-changing seascape, as far as the horizon.
The Grand Atrium is the heart of Iona, a lively focal point that encapsulates the spirit of the ship, with spectacular views and natural light. This special space is designed to ‘draw the outside in’ and, accordingly, Jestico + Whiles has made the sea the hero of the space, allowing guests to connect with the seascape around them. The Grand Atrium will be, according to the occasion and time of day, either playground or sanctuary.
It a key entertainment space, designed meticulously to effortlessly accommodate a wide variety of experiences, from musical performance to thrilling aerialists.
At other times it will attract guests throughout the day for convivial repose, offering from morning coffee as the sun rises and sundowners at dusk.
An elegant, gravity defying, arcing staircase of Italian marble with a filigree, bright silver serpentine balustrade serves as the centre piece to the space, evoking the glamour of the iconic cruise ships of the early 20th century. Designed as a sculpture, its swooping form leads guests on a journey through the decks offering ever changing views.
The unifying experience of the atrium is always the view to the sea that provides an enchanting, captivating backdrop to the activity within.
Jestico + Whiles’ Associate Director, Jennifer de Vere-Hopkins said: “Despite the challenge of such a large space, we have worked closely with P&O Cruises to create a unique Grand Atrium that is harmonious with the separate venues, making the space both open and intimate. The refocusing of the guest experiences on the sea is the heart of an entirely new brief. The sea becomes the focus of the triple-height space; the sinuous curves are shaped around it, framing and complementing the views to the outside.”
P&O Cruises senior vice president, Paul Ludlow said: “We’ve set out to make sure the sea is the star on Iona, and the design of the Grand Atrium tells you so much about how special she is going to be. Balancing intimate spaces with larger social areas, guests will be wowed by the three storey high glass walls and the ever-changing view they reveal. From the moment they step onto the staircase, I know guests will be swept away by the beautiful design.”
Jestico + Whiles has designed P&O Cruises first ever ‘gastro pub’ – The Keel and Cow – on Deck 8, with views over the Grand Atrium and the ocean. The Glass House on Deck 7 will include an impressive wine list and menu curated by award-winning wine expert Olly Smith, wines from around the world are served by the glass. Wine connoisseurs will be well taken care of with a new experience, Cellar Door at the Glass House will offer wine talks, tastings and wine-pairing dinners. Guests can relax with unbeatable views as they watch impromptu aerial and circus performances in the three-storey high space.
On Deck 6 at the Vistas Cafe Bar there is a unique offer from P&O Cruises Food Hero and master pâtissier Eric Lanlard. The nearby Emerald Bar will evoke the glamour of a 1920s cocktail bar.
Iona was constructed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. She holds 5,200 passengers and is the largest cruise ship for the British market.

I used to work with a girl who went to Arcadia fro photography! She absolutely hated it, unfortunately. She said it was dull, so I assume she didn’t take advantage of the study abroad opportunity, lol. But I do know something who went to Boston Uni and she loved it!
& That’s amazing what you studied! I had to take lots of psych and sociology classes in undergrad and absolutely fell in love, but it was not my major. I hope in the future I’ll get to go back to school and get a psych degree and do something in the clinical field. I had always dreamed of doing that, and people always told me I should go into psychotherapy, which I would like to pursue one day. I had bigger dreams of pursuing filmmaking and music production, so that’s where I got my degrees. But I think it’s incredible that you’re a therapist now!! How are you liking it so far?
Also, shout out to that anon from Rochester! Wegmans gang represent ✊
-🦕
I forgot to mention—that’s so cool that you studied abroad in Scotland! I used to live in Europe, so I visited Edinburgh and Glasgow a few times, and it was a lovely experience every time! The people there were so friendly and inviting it was such a stark contrast to many other places in the world, especially the U.S. Everywhere you go in Scotland, people really want to come up and have a genuine conversation with you! In every pub I went to, no one had their phones out, and everyone wanted to simply have a drink with you and talk for hours. I’m quite the self-proclaimed asocial introvert, but it actually felt like a very welcoming and non-threatening environment! To be fair, it was sort of exhausting, but so worth it. I think a lot of people can learn a lot from this culture!! -🦕
Yeah honestly if I could go back now, I would have chosen a different school. It was super small and isolated in a small town. I loved my professors though. But at the time I was way more insecure and spent a lot of my first two years feeling really depressed and lonely so I dont think I could have emotionally handled a big school. The person I am now would have loved a giant school with the football games and the college town atmosphere. But oh well, can't go backwards.
I think I do like therapy for the most part. It's super stressful just given the specific population I work with. I'm at a community clinic so I see the most severely mentally ill people out there. It's tough to see progress and feel like I'm making a difference because unfortunately most of my patients either don't have the insight to know they're sick, won't take their medications, are court mandated, and end up in the hospital every few weeks because they're too psychotic. It's been tough. But I don't plan to stay in this job forever and I"m hoping to eventually move to something where I can do real therapy work. Right now it feels more like I'm just checking for safety and moving on with most of my patients.
Film making and music production sounds incredible though! I sometimes wish I had done something more in the line of production or screen writing.
As for Scotland, I loved the country itself. I was able to do a lot of traveling while I was there too which was incredible. I remember just being super intimidated by everyone there lol but again this was also during my super insecure years so I didn't really put myself out there either.

It presented the biennial exhibition URGENCIES 2021 in spaces across the city such as in shop windows, theatres and a shopping centre, and delivered activity packs to hundreds of schoolchildren, essential in an area of social deprivation.

Tate Derry Gallery Building News
The 2013 Turner Prize exhibition has opened at Tate Derry in the disused Ebrington Military Barracks, reconfigured by the practice (with CPD, Ilex Urban Regeneration Company and Ostick & Williams) as a sequence of new gallery spaces. The exhibition is organised by Derry-Londonderry, the first UK City of Culture, in partnership with Tate.
The scheme comprises four gallery spaces of c. 100 square metres each, an area used for screening films about the artists, and a café with views over the River Foyle. Following its initial use to host Turner Prize 2013, the space will be the focus of a new creative hub for Derry-Londonderry, supporting the development of creative industries in the city.
