the gaang + extras sleeping positions and preferences (hot/cold, alone/w company, etc). can’t remember if you’ve already done this one sorry

we do see the gaang sleeping in the show so i'm gonna use what we already know to extrapolate more info

aang likes sleeping on appa. he is warm and soft and the perfect pillow. when appa was stolen, aang had a really hard time falling asleep, even with momo curled up in his arms. he also has a tendency to airbend in his sleep during especially vivid dreams, which is usually harmless, but one time he launched suki across the room and she had a giant bump on her head for the next week.

katara is used to sleeping with people, since she and sokka shared a room as kids, and she'd always sleep next to him and aang during their travels. whenever she has a room to herself, she feels cold and lonely and unsafe, and piles as many blanket over herself and hugs the pillow under her head to compensate.

sokka sleeps like an old man with multiple diseases. when he isn't snoring loudly, he's muttering to himself, and when he isn't splayed out uncomfortably, his arms are flailing about, shoulders nearly popping out of their sockets. he sleeps with his mouth wide open, meaning bugs are constantly crawling in there, but just as often immediately retreat from his mouth due to the excess of drool. he can only sleep for a few hours at a time, always on alert, and when he does sleep, it's poorly, marked by vivid, absurd, and disturbing dreams. tbh he should probably see a doctor about this.

toph sleeps with her feet up, her equivalent of closing her eyes. that said, she's still a very light sleeper, since any disturbance is sure to jolt her awake. she prefers to sleep on the ground at all times, but doesn't mind sleeping on a bed (or appa) as long as she's sandwiched in between other people she feels safe with. she doesn't know this, but when she and sokka sleep in the same room, their snores will sync up, and anyone who has personally witnessed this can attest that it's adorable.

zuko always sleeps on his side, usually hugging a pillow or the nearest pillow-like object. after getting hit by lightning, he is forced to sleep on his back, which only exacerbates his already extreme discomfort, making it near impossible for him to fall and then stay asleep. he doesn't like blankets, since he is prone to overheating, but he still makes a big show of protesting when katara steals all his blankets anyway, because it's more fun like that.

suki has always been a deep sleeper who can fall asleep in seconds, but the boiling rock fucks that up completely. at first it's okay, but after solitary – the perpetual darkness, the confusing hallucinations – it takes her years to sleep even somewhat normally again. after the boiling rock, she starts experiencing extremely disorienting fever dreams, waking up confused and drenched in sweat and tears; most nights sokka has to remind her where and even who she is at least once. they become less frequent once the war ends, but she never stops feeling uncomfortable whenever she has to sleep alone.

mai has terrible insomnia, and wakes up frequently throughout the night due to the strangeness and intensity of her dreams. it takes her hours to fall asleep and wakes up only a few hours later, so she's always looking for time to nap throughout the day, often curling up on chairs in public places, as long as she knows that someone she trusts is there to make sure no harm comes to her while she's resting. and while they of course do guard her like a hawk, that doesn't mean azula and ty lee won't draw a mustache on her face, either.

ty lee falls asleep very quickly, but wakes up just as quickly. growing up with a million sisters, she learned to value her rest, and to always remain vigilant. even in her sleep, she can differentiate between normal, innocuous commotion versus far-off sounds of approaching danger. it's a very useful skill, one that azula is extremely jealous of.

azula is naturally predisposed to sleep in for as long as possible, which is of course unseemly for a firebender, so she's had to train herself out of it by forcing herself to get out of bed at dawn, even though she is in fact very sleepy for the first hour upon waking up and all she wants to do is stay curled up in bed like a little burrito. despite the fact that she says things like "i wish humans didn't have to sleep so that we could be productive during all hours of the day," she actually cherishes her sleep very much, and being warm and cozy in bed is a comfort of life she truly could not live without.

i know it’s like, super late already, but! i wanted to say HAPPY NEW YEAR’S EVE! ALMOST NEW YEAR!

what’s the gaangs fav cookie? also dessert in general

aang likes lychee sorbet. I decided this a long time ago and now simply believe that it is true. also fruit pies obviously.

katara would love chocolate lava cake. it’s gorgeous and dramatic and timeless, just like her.

truthfully, sokka will eat anything that is put in front of him, but he isn’t really a dessert guy. he likes fruits if that counts, but would generally rather eat something healthier and more sustainable if possible.

toph likes eating packets of sugar. sugar cubes. rock candy. she doesn’t care about all the fancy decorations she just wants to go straight to the good stuff. (and yes that is as disgusting as it sounds)

zuko probably likes green tea mochi or something tasteful and lovely like that. (despite his myriad flaws, his taste is always unimpeachable)

suki like weed brownie. weed cookie. weed mini cupcake. idk. edibles

mai’s favorite dessert is, presumably, fruit tarts with rose petals sprinkled on top

ty lee does not eat sugar, so her favorite dessert is “fruits”

azula is secretly a fiend for anything chocolate. she even likes milk chocolate, like a degenerate peasant. she never lets herself eat too much of it, but she savors every bite.

The gaang+ and what colors they think school subjects are

aang: simply does not give a shit :)

sokka: is very particular about color-coding everything, but also recognizes that people have their own systems and it would be folly to assume any person’s individual or even generalized color-coding system should be considered universal

katara: if you don’t think history is yellow then you need to DIE

zuko: if you don’t think math is red then you need to DIE

toph: it’s all the same to her!

suki: you couldnt pay her to give a shit about that nerd shit

ty lee: she color-codes every subject based on their aura. her favorite classes are all pink, and her least favorite classes are a disgusting puke green, naturally.

mai: wishes she cared, but she actually has to wash her hair today, so...

azula: if you don’t think every subject is the color azula arbitrarily decided it was as a kid, and personally have a different way of organizing & categorizing this completely subjective system, then you simply MUST PERISH.

Gaang + if they were in an apocalypse?

what kinda apocalypse we talkin about? like, i’d argue that they’re already in a post-apocalyptic landscape—well, at least, aang is. and an au wherein ozai wins during/after sozin’s comet is too bleak for me to think about, so i’m just gonna go with your straight-up classic zombie scenario (except bending is also a thing, i’ve decided).

sokka is responsible for keeping katara, aang, and toph alive and safe. he makes the plans, and insists that they trust his instincts. as much as they put up a struggle when he nags them to keep moving when they would rather rest or just chill and hang out—have even a moment’s fun and respite in this unending nightmare—sokka’s insistence on caution and strategy has never led them astray.

toph picks up early on that if she can sense footfalls but no heartbeat then it must be the undead. this ability proves to be one of their greatest assets, because they’re usually able to escape danger before it even reaches their doors. and when it does, well, between three master benders and sokka braining zombies left and right with his boomerang, they don’t usually get hurt too bad.

when they do get scraped up, katara is always there to heal them. not to mention she has no compunctions killing zombies by exploding them from the inside, since they’re technically already dead. the trick is not getting the viscera to splatter on them, because being covered in zombie guts tends to feel pretty gross after a while. toph is convinced that katara is directing her bloodsplatter onto her on purpose. they fight about it a lot. (she was actually aiming for sokka.)

aang is their secret weapon. whenever they’re in a tight spot, he goes into the avatar state and destroys all the zombies. he also proves very useful when it comes to knowing which mushrooms and berries are safe to eat and which are poisonous, which is a great help considering how often they must rely on foraging for their meals.

they encounter suki a couple times before she finally joins up with the gaang after getting separated from the other kyoshi warriors. she doesn’t know whether they’re alive or dead, but what she does know is that it would be pointless to search for them now. she has to keep moving forward, and she’s happy to be part of their group (as is sokka).

yue was traveling with them for a while, but she sacrificed herself to hold off a horde of zombies, and the rest is history. sometimes sokka feels like every time he closes his eyes, even to blink, he can still see her smiling, completely at peace, as the writhing undead mass of violence tears her apart. whenever he feels like giving up, especially now that suki is here and just as capable of protecting the others, he reminds himself that her sacrifice cannot have been in vain.

ozai created the virus on purpose. he wanted it to target “undesirables” (anyone not fire nation, basically) so that from the ashes of the old world, he could rebuild a new, perfect world, in which he is the supreme ruler. he’s been hiding in an extremely fancy underground bunker for years, waiting out the zombie-infested warzone until all the “undesirables” have perished (zombies only have a short lifespan, so ideally it should only take up to, like, seven years for them all to get infected and then die out).

zuko has been tasked with capturing the avatar, who is (apparently) the greatest threat to ozai’s plan, and he cannot return to the bunker unless he brings aang with him. azula has to clean up zuko’s mess (ie, his general ineptitude), so she finally leaves her nice, cozy bunker to venture into the outside world, and kills aang (whom katara later heals), giving zuko the credit. once zuko is able to return to the bunker, having seen how brutal the world outside is, and how comfortably they are all living in their hoarded comfort and opulence, his conscience forces him to defect. he tracks down the avatar one last time, to beg him to join them and defeat ozai, their true enemy.

eventually, mai and ty lee defect too, leaving azula in the bunker to wonder why anyone would abandon this, abandon her, for the hellscape beyond. they hunt down zuko and team up with him and his new friends, arguing that what they provide to the team is having immunization against the zombies, meaning they can protect them without fear of being infected themselves. zuko is like “wait you guys were given a vaccine?” and has yet another revelation about what a shit father ozai was. apparently everyone in the bunker was immunized except for him. go figure.

they decide that it is imperative that they not only take out ozai, but also find the vaccine and proliferate & distribute it to everyone they can. mai, ty lee, and zuko are all like “great we can show you where the bunker is” but sokka’s like “uhhh i triangulated the location of the bunker and toph found it with her seismic sense and broke in using metalbending ages ago. azula already knew about our plan to kill ozai so we had to retreat, but yeah… we already know where the bunker is. did you guys…. not know that? lmfao”

anyway they break into the bunker and katara subdues azula and aang fights ozai and they get the vaccine just in time to save enough people that they can count it as a victory. the devastation the virus wreaked was still an incalculable loss to be sure, but at least they have a plan to move forward, and make the world a little bit safer, together.
