Pinhole Camera

One of my favourite projects in Graphic Design. We made pinhole cameras! Only got to make one positive from the two photos I took (from atop the weir). The railing one I inverted in Photopea. Anyway, it was really cool to make the camera and then see how the photos turned out.

All photos mine. Both negatives are analog as is the bottom positive. The top positive is a digital inverting of an analog photo. No edits otherwise.

Now, if you look up pinhole photography, you might see it said that there is no lens distortion and everything is rectilinear. That seems to make sense since this kind of camera literally doesn't have a lens. It may even be true if the pinhole camera is box-shaped, but mine was an empty paint can and as you can see in the top photos, it's definitely not rectilinear. lol

The mighty Mugshot Cam. Have I posted this before? Can't remember.

The Mugshot (so named because the focus is fixed at about 70cm) was originally an automated traffic camera with a bunch of electromechanical controls in a waterproof metal box. It was big; it was bulky; it was heavy. I stripped away everything that was not essential, and built a new body out of cardboard and epoxy putty.

MAN i need to learn soldering properly i took computer tech for like 3 years in highschool but we learned to get rid of flux residue by going at the pcbs with a barbecue wire brush which makes every electronics nerd i know physically recoil to think about which is very funny but also. maybe i should. learn to use a solvent

#in our teachers defence we 16 year olds were very heavy handed with solder. so there wasnt as much of a risk of like #ripping off the solder by accident. im pretty sure it still happened but i dont remember LOL #i dunno i was thinking about maybe figuring out a way to make some kind of bird box or bird feeder camera. it could be fun #i have an ancient raspberry pi somewhere and im sure i can find old webcams and stuff around. there may be a way to mcgyver something #maybe not something fancy or smart but i like dumb electronics. id love to just see footage of the silly guys HFKJSHKS #but looking at peoples homemade bird cameras really remind me about how i took computer tech for 3 years without learning a thing <3 #dont regret it! but man i didnt absorb any of the stuff we were taught and the stuff i did absorb was NOT particularly applicable jdskhkjfd #i definitely struggled a lot....especially making. lights in parallel. I KNOW i know thats like the basics #BUT LISTEN. parallel circuits are. hard

the visit to the island was cool i love nature. i even took my camera and took pics of everybody and the scenery ^_^ i did feel super awkward around everybody though but other than that it was fine

#its been a while since i had been in a boat. so relaxing #and the river water smelled SOOOOOO good after we got far from the city. almost an addicting sweet smell #i wasnt the only one that brought a camera.... mine was a very simple samsung nx and #this other girl brought a canon 5000 pussy destroyer hyperprofessional or something #so when i sent the drive of the pics i took everybody was like ok 👍 and when she sent hers #everybody was like THIS IS LIFE CHANGING........ I NEED TO POST ALL OF THESE ON INSTA RN.......#which was heartbreaking 💔 but if we're being real obv her pictures had better quality #moving on we had a great breakfast on the island!!!!! we had tapioca and macaxeira and pupunha and homemade bread #plus local chocolate (!!!!!!!) and passionfruit juice and coffee. it was all so good #the only thing i didnt try was the pupunha bc i didnt want to get the shits later but everything else was godly. i wanna go there again #after that we had to get to work and measure the whole thing down and see what we could build etc #my shoes got full of mud 😭😭😭😭 if i go there again im gonna use flip flops
