New ‘Warrior’ Cover Art - Chapter 3: Building Routine

Latest new/updated cover art for ‘only as strong as the warrior next to you’ -- this time featuring Luke and Grogu meditating together in the Observing Station in the training wing of the Executor. 💖🙏

This one was a fun challenge to make! (Bonus points to anyone who recognizes where the image of the metal frame with the circular viewport came from. 😉) The visual it depicts is a little different than in-text, which describes an entirely transparisteel dome that Luke and Grogu are lifted up into by hoverpod. This has more metallic components, but to me better visually conveyed the sense and scope of being in space.

Within the story, I think this chapter stands out to me both for the stunning visuals I had to struggle and google science fiction words in order to parse into words, but also because it’s the first time we get to see more than off-hand mentions and glimpses of the canon divergence background that has laid the ground within which the story occurs. The chapter itself is a journey to the past, with Luke showing Din and Grogu the place where Emperor Vader trained him and his sister in the ways of the Sith. Where the years goner by are so tangible it feels possible to reach out and touch them.

Getting to show Young Luke and Young Leia was such a joy and sorrow. Grogu and the meditation Luke leads him through was a lilting dream.

And at the very end, it’s the first time we get to see the wild oscillation of Luke’s mood ‘on-screen’ in such a way that it actually affects someone that we as the audience -- and Luke himself -- care about. I like to think that there are moments in the story where Luke, raised by Vader rises to the surface, and so often it competes and strains against Luke, raised by Owen and Beru. Having him lash out at Din in anger here, and over something relatively innocuous, makes clear that this is something he is easily capable of -- an important seed to plant for later.

The top picture of Luke is from Star Wars: Crimson Reign, while tiny Grogu is actually a very sized-down, adjusted image of a real-life toy! The hero shots of Din and Luke are from a variant cover of The Mandalorian #1 and from the pages of Star Wars: Shattered Empire, respectively. The gorgeous spacescape background -- meant to be the asteroid and scrap-rich expanse of the Bormea sector -- is a free wallpaper with Chandrila and some Imperial ships layered on in the corner. 😚

Underrated princess! She's so funky so it allows for a lot of interesting (and ridiculous) angles for headcanons

Princess of the Candy Kingdom, and therefore heir to the ruling throne. This land is relatively isolated from modern, ordinary human society, yet Luna keeps finding excuses to travel to and from these places anyway because she just finds the outside world more interesting

Luna is technically human. She's just super gifted and intelligent for her age of three years old, already capable of feats of college students and greater.

Not to mention that the inhabitants of the Candy Kingdom all are somewhat peculiar as a result of the magic they use that hangs around the territory; all citizens age strangely as a result, not quite consistently faster but also not consistently slower than usual. It almost comes in random spurts. It's weird as hell, but explains Luna's mental capabilities to a degree

While appearing to be spoilt and lazy, she's completely capable of running the kingdom where it counts, patient in almost all matters that aren't interfering with her play time

That being said whenever she doesn’t have to be important, Luna wants to be pampered and when she wants to be pampered she NEEDS the highest quality pampering she can get. Throw toys at her or else she will kill you

She oversees a lot of technological advancements within the kingdom, especially regarding technology, as she has knowledge on the advancements human society is making outside their kingdom.

It's not common knowledge - as to the public she is seen as this pampered young princess who needs help with everything - but she's also a formidable combatant; she has fended off attacks on her person through nimble dodging and brutal sword arts. To those who know of her skill in combat, she's known as the War or Battle Princess.

Despite this, though, she's easily frightened and often sends her royal staff and guard to deal with "creepier" stuff

The Lu-Knights are not the official name of the Candy Royal Guard, but it's the name Luna uses for them, so therefore everyone uses it. All the Lu-Knights love it, loyal to a fault.

She wants to keep a giant kaiju as a pet. She wants to name it Nanorazilla. Better yet she wants to turn into one. Thankfully for the citizens of the kingdom, this is just a fantasy of hers. For now, at least.

Sometimes, if she’s feeling up to it or if she needs to keep up noble appearances, she performs on her personal electone during gala events hosted by the kingdom. Canonically she’s stupidly good at it

The Houshou Pirates occasionally visit the Candy Kingdom to make deals with its citizens. The captain's first encounter with Luna did NOT end up going well to say the least, though it was less to do with the legal ramifications of the crown princess confronting a pirate out of nowhere, and more to do with Luna intentionally winding up Marine for the fun of it. While the pirates still visit often, Marine prays she doesn't have to meet the damn annoying baby princess ever again (she does. every time. luna is spiteful and finds it funny)

While she already has a butler, Luna has made Subaru her own personal retainer, frequently making her play video games and have tea parties with her.

She didn't pick Subaru for any deep or royal reasons. She just saw Subaru getting attacked by ducks and went "That one. I want that one"

Subaru does enjoy Luna's company though so it all works out

Choco is a travelling nurse who frequently visits the Candy Kingdom, and is an official royal nurse whenever she's around. She hangs out with Subaru and Luna frequently.

Subaru knows barely anything about royal advisor duties so often it's Choco who has to explain things to her so they can help Luna out

This became SubaChocoLuna headcanons at the end there featuring a bit of my Luna & Marine dynamic bias but I hope these suffice o7

I'm done redecorating my bookshelf! It has some strategically placed gaps for where I'm still missing books. For example I still need the last Magnus chase book in german and the first one in english and of the seawalker book series I'm missing like 5 whole books and assassination classroom I'm missing 10 but those will be stacked upwards so no extra gap was given there.

I'll probably have to rearrange some stuff and move some decor to the currently undecorated top shelf when I actually get around to buying those books but that's a problem for future wiika.
