You know you've got it good when you have a few hours of lunch break in between a long slog.

Operator Bowen Chuuno was part of the many souls deep in the food court of the famous Holdenford Mall, located in the CBD of Lobarr City. Of course he had to have a few hours of lunch break, today's job comprised of mountainous typing of report after report, a culmination of all previous assignments to be explained and written out in the one sitting. All on an antique typewriter, thanks to regulations. It was probably one of the most mentally arduous aspects of being an Operator, exploring worlds and the like, you had to actually write the reports yourself, from your own observations, your own point of view.

And since this was what, an 8 till 6 job, yes, it was longer than most office jobs, the break time was extended to two hours as a result, let the batteries recharge for a moment, then once you're all set, get back into it and fry said batteries once more, or so how it felt like. Plus being out and about he can check up on social media. Such protocols indeed.

So, he was seated by a table for two. His meal, well, he decided to get Red Rooster for a change, a taste of home somewhat, a good quality meal, even if it meant spending more. Typically he had a large bottle of iced coffee as well, from one of the local supermarkets. Such he would enjoy, listening to the familiar 1980s music that matched the aesthetic of the mall.. and the city. It was still nice being here, like a trip back in time.

Would today turn out to be something completely different for him? It might well be far from boring after all.

Headcanon - Lobarr City

Theme

While previously written about Terra Veteris as a whole, there is a particular focus on Lobarr City in canon.

Lobarr is the capital city of Authrum. It houses all the departments for the United Government as well as being the main business district for Authrum’s economy. It is an immense city, with buildings going on for many a mile. Originally it was to be called L’Barr city, until the original proclamation was miswritten... and so it became Lobarr City from here on out.

Lobarr is also the epicentre for Authrum's meteoric rise in technology. It has an extremely high quality of healthcare, along with many different gadgets and devices now available. Despite such futuristic advancements, the city is otherwise a trip back in time. The buildings, the vehicles, trains, advertisments, fashion, entertainment, it is back in the 1980s in almost every way, as is the bulk of Authrum in itself, though many of the buildings around the place are much older, kept intact due to Heritage regulations.

At night-time the city is light up spectactularly, even under darkness it's still a hive of activity, whether it be due to it's flourishing industry or the blooming entertainment aspect. The city tends to run until pretty late in the night, though it does have 24 hour conveniences, such as vending machines, some self-service supermarkets, service stations, whatever people may need, whatever time of day or night.

Notable Locations:

Railway Station: Lobarr City Railway Station is grandiose, with multiple platforms taking trains to all sorts, whether it be metropolitan, outer-surburban, long distance, even the inter-dimensional like the Super Express. It's one of the many landmarks kept in heritage, despite a few changes made to improve it along the way. It also boast a few shops and cafes, being quite large in itself. It’s also the main interchange to the bus system as well, with buses connecting with trains, as well as the local City Loop that services as much of the district as possible.

Railway System: Even outside of the main railway station the city is big enough to have several stops dotted along for many of the different sections and locations along. The railways in Lobarr are elevated, running all sorts of different trains. Many tend to lead outwards to the suburbs, but there’s at least a few specific for inter-dimensional connections.

Holdenford Mall: Being a city as it is, you wouldn’t have it without a large shopping mall. Distinctly 80s in style, it's got practically everything. Retail, arcades, junk food, even a movie cinema complex. Anyone who's anyone ends up spending some time at Holdenford for one reason or another, even if it's not for shopping, even if you're not there to get a specific thing only found in one of it's many shops. It's an experience in itself to visit, one can spend all day in such a precinct.

Federal Markets: Located near Holdenford Mall, but not a part of the mall, this section of the city houses the vast markets. Mostly food and produce, it also allows stallholders to sell all kinds of goods and wares, as long as it’s legal for sale and safe for distribution. A melting pot in itself of all cultures and walks of life, you can practically find anyone here.. and around the main markets in itself is the Federal Arcade, filled with more shops, along with a local supermarket. Even today you feel it’s part of the city in it’s looks, even with the bustling life of people coming and going, every day.

National Library: This ain't no council library, this is a grand place filled with books upon books upon books on so many subjects. Generally kept to local subjects, which is vast on it's own. It does hold some of the more 'special' books regarding inter-dimensional subjects, but only those authorised can access that section. It is the official information repository of the United Government, after all. It is rumoured to hold some other information regarding strange phenomena, but such is kept locked away deep in the basement, only very few people have clearance to such information.

Lines Street: There are a number of streets in Lobarr dedicated to entertainment. The most notable is Lines Street. Fast food, a cinema, some local mini-marts, but it is most famous for the home of the night-time pub-crawls. Many a restaurant, pub, nightclub, even an old school arcade frequent this street. There’s also some ‘after-dark’ entertainment too for the fortunate, though despite them being such, they clearly advertise during the day when not open. Some consider Lines Street to be the seedy side of Lobarr, but many believe that all cities have something similar for the people to enjoy and have fun.. As long as they are having fun and are safe, there’s no problem, right?

Ministry of Science Headquarters: A brutalist building, the HQ to the Ministry of Science houses all of the departments conceptual experiments, into so many sciences. Mostly technological and mechanical, it also conducts research into space and the universe, along with the extensive observations of the inter-dimensional. The main projects occur well underground, to keep the public at surface level safe. At the very depths of the headquarters lies The Reactor, the power and computing source used to maintain not only the Inter-Dimensional Network, but also the system used to transport and monitor Field Operators throughout the multiverse.

Lobarr Botanic Gardens: Even in Lobarr you get quite the space kept for nature. Unlike another world previously seen, these gardens are all as they are meant to be, organic, natural. Located on the outskirts of Lobarr, the Gardens have been around for quite a long time, kept preserved for future generations. While the city does boast many parks for people to visit, the Botanic Gardens is unique for it’s many different flowers, along with some wildlife. It even encompasses a river that runs right past it. While generally the only man-made things on the site are amenities and the maintenance section, a restaurant was recently built overlooking the river, attracting locals, tourists and high flyers alike.

CANON:

Bowen Chuuno first discovered Lobarr on his first train trip into other universes at fifteen. It is a place he keeps coming back to, the atmosphere bringing a welcoming nostalgic feel to him every time he returns. The Railway Station is the place he goes to the most, though places like Holdenford Mall and even the Botanic Gardens he goes to. He has to report to the Ministry of Science Headquarters every now and then to catch up on work and be briefed on what’s been going on, new assignments, etc. There is also an old, unmarked apartment block in the main district dedicated to Operators typing out reports, which Bowen has to visit when it comes to paperwork time. He is fascinated by Lobarr, wanting to know all about the city, purely for his personal curiosity.
