This is such a great blog post! I love the idea of having matching inks per the months colored tabs/headers.
They also have one for gel pens and fineliners. Link is below ⬇️

i've been using my filofax clipbook for over a year and have been overall pretty satisfied with the system i've developed for it. but for the past few months i've been watching planning videos on yt of people who use the hobonichi weeks and have been more and more interested in trying it now despite seeing some issues with it esp. re: the price.
but i just saw that a store that i buy my fountain pen inks from still has one of the designs for 2023 which i really like and now i'm like... what if... i got it....

Can you tell i like my spreads as noisy as i like my music?
A (little past) quarterly update with my Hobonichi weeks!
4.15.24
It took a little of bit time, but i think i've finally familiarized myself and made a home out of this notebook. It's the only writing vessel i actively attend to currently, so it's quite gratifying that this wallet size (a kinda massive wallet, ok) book is able to answer me both in function and form.
I had been worried that i was growing somewhat bored (and at times frustrated) with the Week's shape, but after everything we have been through, it's hard to imagine a canvas more fitting for the types and frequency of entries i collect.
Pictured here are some Machine Girl fangirling hysteria, an article on "Poor Things" (extending to several more pages that deserve their own spotlight i think), and a couple of personal journal entries where i braindump. I also started collecting my notes from Art History class in here as well, and I'm thrilled that the content does feel like home within these pages. (very much inspired by @blvddays on instagram for her use with transparent paper here [figure 6], mine are Office Depot sticky notes).
Massive adoration goes out to @petite-gloom's stickers. I love my loud and colorful spreads, but they plainly would be inferior without the minimal twinkle from Megan's art. I have the most fun looking through her sticker sheets, and figuring out how to add the final accessory to my spreads.
I don't know! Life beyond has been hectic and uncomfortable lately, but there's a sense of harmony i find here that is making my heart sparks a little bit as I'm looking at these pages. I hope to nourish and fertilize this little collection of thoughts and ideas faaar and further into the year.
This has been the lengthiest that Tumblr has ever seen me. I require a new badge, immediately.

overcomplicated analysis of kim kitsuragi’s notebook because im autistic!
i was reading thru the footnotes of his wiki page because i am a completely normal human being and i had some thoughts that led me to buying some stationery and drawing some headcanons today so i wanna INFODUMP!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the name mnemotechnique caught my attention immediately. one of my favourite brands of notebook has a similar name - maruman mnemosyne - i can only assume that this is a reference to the brand name. (coincidentally this supports my fountain pen headcanon as these books are some of my favourite paper to use fountain pens on!!) btw! mnemosyne is the goddess of memory, and mnemotechnique is the french word for mnemonics; the practice of making things easier to remember via patterns!
Tumblr media
this reference is supported by the ring binding on the item icon in game, and the fact that it’s one of the more affordable ~nice~ notebook brands out there.
it looks like a bit more is going on in the game artwork though. it’s somewhat bigger than A6 compared to that pen, even in the overworld model. (lets just blame the fact that its *slightly* bigger on that no one actually need bother with that level of detail. a book much bigger than a6 in a breast pocket is just too heavy. it’d pull on his jacket too much), and there’s that weird metal thing on the top. i’m imagining the art people were trying to get it to match harry’s ledger. we could assume kim’s notebook has a binder clip accessory?
Tumblr media
the inside of the cover is yellow, which is very similar to mnemosyne’s traditionally yellow endpapers, which further cements the mnemosyne reference:
Tumblr media
the official merchandise is a book that is similar to a moleskine or a leuchtturm journal, the blue cover matches the overworld model. im inclined to think this is simply because of ease of manufacturing these styles of book, it’s even a more default A5 size instead of the smaller A6 it should be.
Tumblr media
my little tiny thesis to gather all of these facts in a satisfying manner to me is as such: he has a ring bound notebook, real world equivalent being the mnemosyne, but with a jacket similar to a hobonichi:
Tumblr media
this covers the extra details like the two pen clips and the possibility of tucking away some accessories like the binder clip. on top of that it makes a lot of sense, considering a notebook cover is strong, protects a notebook that can easily be filled up and swapped out, and also has little pockets inside which of course are very handy. he’d like that.
sorry for the long post i just am having an autismbrained day and i love stationery so much. my blorbo has my favourite notebook and im making you all know it

Whenever I want clothes or accessories but can’t have them I end up drawing fictional characters with them. This time since I wanted stuff from Hobonichi I sketched Ness and Lucas wearing some cool apparel from the store (I used some pics from the models for these items as ref!)

pls know that I bought myself a little art scrapbook after seeing yours and I am, like, ABSURDLY excited to use it 💚
HELL YEAH HELL YEAH HELL YEAH!!!
I hope you have a lot of fun!
Journaling and scrapbooking have become a lot of fun to me lately because they're so versatile: you can put all kinds of stuff in 'em, and there's soooo many accessories and specialty items you can get nowadays.
Tumblr media
Here's some of my favorite stuff to use with my hobonichi planner: planner-specific sticky notes, regular and mini sized sticky notes, washi tape and washi tape cutter, white-out tape, and a glue pen + tombow's glue dots roller. You can't forget a good pair of scissors or an x-acto knife, either.
So far I've gotten more use out of the glue pen; it's perfect for the mini sticky notes and when I cut stuff out and it's in odd shapes the glue tape can't quite handle:

Don't forget to get a bunch of weird stickers! Get some tape! Marker pens!! A ruler! An edge cutter for papers to make em round or decorative! More stickers!!!!
Again, I really hope you have fun in your scrapbook!! ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

V exciting day! I received my Tangle (and I love it) - the colors are sent randomly but I received green, my favorite color family. My Hobonichi and accessories arrived 4 days early, then I got the rest of the presents wrapped. Big Christmas miracle vibes over here. Dreading packing and leaving the apartment tomorrow for days of being in the car. Also horrified I haven't packed already.

A review on Hobonichi Day Free after two years
What kind of planner do you use?
I started using the brand Hobonichi a few years ago. I liked the design and the tomoe river fountain paper they use in their planners. They have plenty of really nice covers and accessories which made it even more interesting. I’m not really the journal and decorative type person although I wish I could be! So I use planners for ‘to do lists’ and other random notes.
I actually first picked up the A6 techo original on sale a few years back but then decided it was too small and the daily pages weren’t for me as I left many pages blank. So I decided to give the A5 day free a try in 2020. It worked really well and I used it for notes and planning too.
This year though I left a lot more blank as I felt pretty lazy recording everything down and ended up using it more as a notebook rather than a planner. Due to this change, I felt that I wasted it and could have just bought a notebook instead of paying for the planner.
After two years I think it’s better just to buy a notebook as I found I didn’t really use the calendar that much in 2021. Some months I was a lot more organised and wrote things down and some months I wasn’t.
Tumblr media
I was thinking of going to the cousin avec with the daily pages but then I kept thinking if I would really use all the pages. I never thought of trying out the weeks version as I feel like it would be too small and I have pretty messy writing that is sometimes small or really large but this year I decided to try it.
I purchased one original weeks planner from the hobonichi website. There was a ‘Weeks Mega’ which has more pages at the back but thought I’d try the original first and also because the original version had a floral cover I liked. I was thinking of purchasing the weeks and a plain A5 notebook, if I needed a seperate book to write notes on but since I still have plenty of blank pages from the 2020 and 2021 day free I should just use the pages from them and not waste it. At one point I considered even purchasing the cousin and the weeks to see which one would suit me, but I’ll never be a seperate planner type of person! Also it seems like the milligram store in Melbourne stocks the notebooks, so if in the future I want one I could just buy it there.
One reason why I really didn’t want to switch to the weeks as I have two A5 covers which I really like but decided I could still store my A5 day frees in them I can still use at home for random notes.
Since shipping is quite costly to order from the hobonichi website I also added a couple more things like accessories. I also purchased a really cute cover for my weeks planner! I wasn’t sure if I should purchase locally on milligram as it works out to be quite similar if I was just purchasing the planner but milligram ended up selling out of the weeks planner I wanted so the hobonichi website it was. I actually only planned to buy the cousin avec but that didn’t work out and I spent a lot more. Nice designs and stationery are one of my weak spots ;_;.
So overall, after two years I don’t think the day free is for me and it’s probably better to just use a plain notebook. I will be trying the weeks for 2022, hopefully it suits my needs. I chose the weeks for 2022 because I found that I actually didn’t need that much space and I wanted a daily layout and the weeks version has a vertical daily layout which I like. Maybe if it doesn’t I will try the cousin avec next time.

Listen, I know I kind of clowned on Hobonichi in some of my initial impressions posts, but I caved and bought a HON...
Tumblr media
I stand by what I said about them being overpriced, especially with how quickly the cover on my little A6 notebook fell apart. However, I think the daily pages in a Techo would serve me really well in the coming year because I've been keeping daily entries consistently for the past few months. And while those entries aren't always super long or take up a full A5 page worth of space, it's still creating significant bulk in my 6-ring binder. An A5 Cousin/HON seemed too daunting for me to try and fill daily, so I opted for the A6. And I did originally want the Japanese version, but I found an English version on Ebay for a significantly lower price (with the Hobonichi store freebies included) and decided it was worth it to buy secondhand, even if it's not exactly what I wanted. I did a lot of price comparing between ordering on Amazon vs the Hobonichi store and between the Original Techo with accessories (not included with a Cousin or HON) vs getting a HON with the freebies. In the end, I think this was the most cost effective purchase that also fulfills what I really wanted the most (I couldn't stay away from the gorgeous Yamazakura cover. I mwan just look at it 💖). If I want additional accessories in the future, like a cover or additional pencil board, I could get them later down the line, but I feel pretty good about this initial purchase!

You ever had a diary? I think I always liked the idea of having a diary, journal, or burn book, something that just gives a place for freedom of thought and reflection. But I could never actually find a way that felt good to me to do that. What if I just don’t have anything to write about? What if I have too much to write about? And at that what should I write about to being with, just my feelings or what happened in the day? It was too much for me when I was growing up to fell comfortable doing, especially when I know that I like to take time to make my thoughts come to fruition. But in the last five years I’ve enjoyed it more and come to the conclusion that it didn’t actually matter that I had no thoughts in particular, but that I took to the page when I did. That I had somewhere to personally discuss my interests or show them. Plus as someone who like art tools, I feel theres something to be valued in those too. So I wanna talk about some of the tools I use and what I usually put into my journals, picture references and some of the artists I buy stickers from (but no personal stuff like full entries or personal pictures)!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My journal of choice: Hobonichi Techo Cousin, A5 (5.8"× 8.3"× 0.7")
Hobonichi is probably the most popular choice due to it’s quality and variety in size, I myself have used two different sizes in the past. The Techo Classic and Cousin. I eneded up preferring the options that the Cousin provides being a bigger size and having several options for noting events on a day, etc. To see all the features of the cousin you can see it here: https://www.1101.com/store/techo/2016/planner/all_about/cousin/ What I really preferred was the size difference. The Techo classic wasn’t bad if I didn’t have a lot but it was a problem if I had a big event in my life I wanted to scrapbook or had a lot I wanted to talk about. You may say “What about the opposite then? What if nothing happened?” Well as an artist that leaves me with some more places to draw when I’d like to. Or a page for general scrapbooking. I can figure out more of what to do with a blank page, than a full page. Even then in the Cousin size I have had times I use both pages for a single day or thoughts. The river paper is also well fit for a lot of the pens and markers I use too, I never get leaks through the page and even if I can lightly see through the page it’s not harsh enough that it distracts of makes the new page hard to write or work on. It takes fairly well to tape too, Due to how thin it is though it can tear a bit easier if I’m not careful with my placement. It’s definitely in high demand and if you’re looking for a journal, planner or diary you’ll definitely see it recommended a lot.
For the coming Year I got some special accessories for it and decorated it in a specific way to make up for the fact that I couldn’t see the cover this time around. If you’re someone who wants to have a decorated cover, inner pages, or back cover there’s a lot of accessories made for them as well. The current clear cover I use is actually one I got on Etsy because of it’s affordability and the size. For this next year though I’ve got a special cover from Hobo’s collab with One Piece as well as a pencil Board! I’ll show what the cover looks like, how it fits and such too just to show what I mean about decorating it too.
Tumblr media
So both here have covers, my current has a jelly cover so that I can see the stickers, the next year’s has the one piece fabic cover. For this year I decorated the front cover very lightly as I hadn’t known I was gonna do and ended up adding stickers a bit half-planned, but the back is very decorated with purpose! I had gotten some stickers of one of my favorite manga and other various deco stickers, so made something in a vibe that I liked together. Because I did this directly on the cover I wanted to be sure the jelly cover was thick still.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don’t have anything on the cover of next year’s for this reason, It’s a non-transparent cover that tucks around the cover page like a book sleeve and can’t be easily taken off, but I have decorated the first inner page to make up for that, personally. It allows me to have a bit of a ease into using it for any personal usage but also allows me to be a bit non-precious with it. This is something I learned with sketchbooks, where the easeiet thing to do is draw something or just throw down a rough work on the first page so that you don’t try to hold the sketchbook to too high of a standard to the point you don’t ever use it. So I used the same logic and busted out my washi tape to cover the first few pages and give myself that little bit of freedom with the rest of it. Speaking of Washi, let’s go over some of the material I’ve used in my journal for a variety of things and some of the washi/sticker groups I’ve got stuff from!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Basics (Pens, Pencils, Erasers)
Overall I’m pretty basic with my usual pens, I use Bic standard ball point. I have one in Black and Blue, and usually keep the black one in my pencil case. If I am feeling more colorful I have some One Piece gel pens that I use (I seem obsessed with One Piece but it’s purely coincidence here I promise). Because I draw and such, I naturally have a set of art pencils that I also use in the journal on occasion. It’s not very often but they’re still handy to have on hand. The pencil set also came with an eraser; Faber Castell’s dust-free vinyl material eraser.
Markers, Faber Castell, 25 Pack
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Faber Castell marker pack is one I’ve had for about 10 years now, It’s not something I get out frequently but even still it’s surprising none of the markers haven’t dried out or lot of saturation. These markers I feel work especially well on Hobonichi’s river paper, where theres no bleed and the colors are still really vivid. The downside to that is I frequently find that when i use them on standard sketchbook paper they absorb into the paper really fast, which is nice, but on the river paper they set a little slower. I believe it has something to with the way they don’t bleed through, but I’m not sure. It’s not a problem if I let it dry for a minute but if I make something more involved because I want to dress it up I have to let larger portions of the color sit for a minute so I don’t smudge it on my hand. Usually too I use it in combo with some stickers I have. Usually as well I use it to fill double pages that I just didn’t get to or to mark general events in a busy two-day schedule. Likewise with stickers I tend to use them in a similar way where I use them to fill a larger portion of the page first or compose the major portions of it before writing anything down. It lets me be sure that I’ll have enough room for little thoughts but also the art or such I place down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sticky Notes, Washis and Stickers
For These I usually get my washis, stickers and sticky note tabs from fanzines. Previously I got the Demon Slayer Planner, Persona 5 Planners and other various fan projects that usually include sticker sheets, stationary etc. This year as well I’ve joined several “Sticker Clubs” at the end of this year via patreon. Currently I’m in the patreons for: Boxerbun’s Fight Club, Bryson McBee, Janet Sung, Mogumu, Ocean Club and previously Trungle’s. Not many of them are Washi based, most of my current washis are from fanzines I mentioned, except 1 from uchuu summer, which I received more recently. A lot of Washi tough tend not to be sticky enough to totally tape down objects or papers, they’re better for decoration and stuff like that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Camera / FujiFilm
I do supplement my journal or more diary style entries with actual photos! I find that I don’t take a lot of photos in my life but know that it can be important for personal confidence in a lot of ways. I was never really comfortable getting my picture taken or even being in pictures but because of that I also feel like I didn’t get to properly preserve an idea of what I look like. This is something I especially noted in the last two years because of the passing of several family members, who I have few pictures with because of my aversion to taking them. I don’t really want to lose that time together going forward so I have pushed myself by doing physical photo stuff and doing atleast one selfie every 3-4 months. To do this I decided a Fujimax (FujiFilm Instax) would be nice to have, they’re both convenient and the film is easy to use. Learning how to use it was nice and easy but also gave me a really nice and easy “gift” if I was hanging out with someone for a special occasion. I literally did a photo exchange with some of my friends who also had a Fujimax (by total coincidence) where we both took pictures together and then exchanged them. It was really nice and gave an extra sense of sentimental value for something so nice and simple.
Tumblr media
The size of the photos too, in combination with my A5 makes for a good amount of space left to write, even with multiple pictures. Also due to the size of the pictures and the writing space at the bottom, I can tape them in in unique ways that let me open them like a pop-up book or write under them too! Similar to the Hobonichi, these cameras also have a lot of accessories that you can buy from both amazon and handcraft sites like etsy. Often as well I find that theres a lot of nice deco stickers made for this size, or around this size, due to kpop fan creations like Custom Photocards, Anime merch of arcylic cases and things of that nature that encourage adding your own stickers and then an acrylic or sleeve card to protect it.
Tumblr media
And that is about it! I really eased out of using general planners for taking notes and stuff to actually doing all sorts of things that just are nice little stationary works for myself or journals about life. It’s like scrapbooking but a bit more personal or varied. It’s not necessarily about a specific event but about anything and everything from events, to notes, to drawings and thoughts. When I let myself be really free form with it I had a lot more fun overall and feel like I’ve let myself understand and reflect on things a bit more than before. It’s been really nice and is actually a part of what got me into the idea of doing more text blogging to begin with. While I don’t think I have some of the decorem or informative sides that most other blogs have, that was never really the goal. I have a lot of thoughts, so many that I decided to start making a place for them in my personal life, so to be able to share a little peek into that and get out all the little thoughts I have about the activity or even some of my general knowledge about it is fun.

Does anyone know of a good archive Hobonichi shop? You can msg me, leave comment or send over an anon ask 💜💜💜
I’ve been wanting to rebuy a particular cover that I love (A6 My Manga and I ) and also an older weeks I couldn’t get in stock when first sold.
The A6 cover I have now was well loved but I didn’t have a cover on cover at first so it has some ink marks on it. I still cherish but would like a pristine one.

Daiso Sticker Haul
My husband wanted to go to the shopping centre last Saturday and it made me think what I would do there. I have gone back to being a homebody again since I got flu 2 weeks ago. And since I’m still over the moon with my Hobonichi, might as well get some accessories for it which are stickers and washi tapes 😊 https://youtu.be/vitRzNL-7Tw And while on it, might as well show you my purchases.
