How would an all-female take force be?
Umm wow! Either Death Note now takes place in Barbie- Land or L is getting a lot more shade for hiring only female officers for his task force. As regardless of how skilled they are, there's always going to be questions about the task force, and now there's going to be questions about if it really is the most skilled force for the job.
Because unfortunately as a girl, people have this barrier of you first needing to prove you can do the job before they let you go do the job. Social progress has been made in the 20 years since Death Note was first written, but in Japan has different values then western, a big one being valuing the collective over the individual.
For the collectivest to work, everyone has to value group cohesion and stick to the natural order of things over the individual needs the west favors.
Anyone who is outside of that norm, is labeled troublesome, which leads to isolation and bullying, a problem which people of mixed heritage have enough of a problem with in Japan.
So this many ladies becoming prominent figures in the police force and being born in the 1950'-70's is going to stand out. And they are probably a lot more cynical about their jobs, to say the least, and likely not as highly placed.
If we are going for realism on this Soichiro is probably not Chief in this AU to say the least. And L is losing a lot of social credit for this decision, as this Kira case is not going anywhere fast to say the least.
Here's a video from Lady Virgilla that talks (amongst other things) about Japanese culture and female leadership in the workforce (part 4 has statistics about females in the workforce)
youtube
At the same time, being on the task force is also a choice that all of them made in Canon, and I don't know if they would be willing to risk their jobs in the same way as females, given how much work it took them to get where they already are. The cost-sunk benefit would weigh a lot heavier here.
I don't even know if all of them would want to stay on the task force if they were all female as I would imagine it would not do positive things to their jobs long term, particularly after the funding was discontinued, I imagine leaving would be a thing more of them took him up on.
That said you guys are probably here for funner headcanons, and I plan to expand on this in the other Anon ask. May be yours, may not be, so stay tuned, and lets start.
So Mogi is kind of a Stoic, though he seems to get a kick out of messing with Yotsuba Kira.
E:-He probably regretting this after a week.
Mogi really is the best jk.
K:-Hes also a good actor, and does a good job as Misas manager.
E:-He needed a raise.
K:-What if we flip it for Female Mogi.
Acts cheary and friendly around people she doesn't know, but get to know her and you find that she actually doesn't like talking all that much, preferring to spend her downtime quietly.
Can fade in and out of a scene, stealing the spotlight and leaving like a ninja exiting stage right.
Secretly likes quietly appearing behind people and startling them.
I think Mrs. Ukita in this one is a little more cautious, which means Misa doesn't kill her as easily, having the investigation last longer.
E:-Not as hot headed. Still is reckless but instincts much higher.
Do Mello or Matt know how to cook?
I need to know how they even start off their business. Does Whammy prepare them for adult home ec life?
K:-I have no idea? I suppose that depends on what Whammies considers necessary orphan skills. Most in Japan don't, though that's more mostly there's more children than caretakers.
I doubt L learned.
E:-"Cake is a nutrient. It has all the food groups necessary to function properly--"
"That's bullshit and you know it."
Lmao ok I have an idea. But also the idea of Matt and Mello having to do small gigs but influential enough to get their mafia gang appeals to me.
K:-I don't know. I feel that Mello more got the job in part because A Kira had killed off the old boss and they needed someone less high profile. So they made a deal.
Honestly I don't even begin to pretend to have the background knowledge of crime to try to map out how Mello became a crime boss in 4-5 years, so I'm chalking it up to Kira, rule of cool, and Mello being good at psychology in spite of being impulsive as hell.
E:-Nah its fine. My brain wants to fill in the gaps. But also thinking about the fem versions of them. While I can see the same recklessness of a fem Mello, I can see some precautions she takes and more tough around the edges she has to be running a mafia group.
Ohhh. MELLO AT HOT TOPIC!
K:- Eclipse, I think Mello would tell you true punks make it themselves not shop for it
E:-Very true. He has taste lets be real here
K:-I'm thinking about Honne and tatemae, and how the task force probably tried to take L out for work drinking so they could give honest opinions and show face with drinking as the reason for letting social barriers down to give him honest criticism, and L just said Nah, so they went and complained about L drunk.
E:-Bwhwhahahha. Okay okay thats hilarious. Eyo flavor shots!!
I want them having fun for a bit since this is such a stressful case.
K:-Maybe it would be fun, but actually it serves a social purpose l, such as maybe telling your boss that maybe his ideas are not working so well, or to tell people things you don't like about them, as expressing it publicly/at work would be a social faux pass, but expressing it "drunk" has an excuse, and as its a different setting you can all go back to work and put your "face" back on.
Well sort of. The article I read explains it better.
Emotional honesty. Terrible for the liver.
E:-True very true. Sometimes its an imbalance and most would rather have gone home than attend a mandatory drinking session.
Hey new article popped up. Apparently Japanese citizens are having a lawsuit against Japanese police due to their racial profiling.
So apparently due to the rise of foreign workers and those with obvious mixed race they do get stopped more and checked 'randomly'.
I still remember the podcast of Trash Tase about how when a officer came over checking their 'noise complaint' Conner and Joey didn't need to be checked too much when they answered the door.
But they mentioned Garnt as a Thai man and instantly the officer voice changed
Very little info but here is an article
Also I forgot until someone reminded me Light swallowed a piece of the death note paper he used.
Or he played fucking mario kart with Ryuk.
K:- I forgot that too
E:-Light and video games give me a whiplash. Most time I feel like Light cane out of the womb with a sneer and a pocket protector.
K:-He might have a god complex but he knows how to blend. Video games are blending. Besides, could you see Light having friends over and pulling out a deck of cards or something?
E:-I mean I can see him being decent at poker. Delinquents jk.
K:-But gambling. From the top honors student *shocked gasp*
E:-Lmao top student my ass. He needs a bit of thrill once in a while.
I mean surely making bombs doesn't come out of nowhere.
K:- Who taught him that. I just want to talk. I need to ask. WHY! Why in the world would you teach Light Yagami how to make a bomb!
E:- Me thinking bruh he totally had some bad influence friends. I mean 'classmates"
I doubt his dad would let him see things.
But Soichiro also seems to be the dad to go over safety things with his kids of what not to mix
You be surprised how many people die by mixing bleach and ammonia (spelled it wrong) together accidentally making homemade mustard gas. Or that tiktok trend of mixing cleaning supplies in a batch.
And kids are curious. Light is smart enough on what chemicals can make a home made bomb. But I'm more concerned how he figured the trap. Or his lie about a diary.
That makes it even more suspicious Light. Makes me think u did illegal shit.
K:- Youtube wasn't exactly big those days.
Seeing as how death note takes place in 2003. And youtube was 2005.
E:- Time travel jk. Then again chatrooms were a thing.
K:- "hey all, how do I best trap my desk to keep people out of it. I need to know for reasons. Lol.
Aside from the Yagamis, Aizawa is probably the closest to Matsuda in the task force.
Aizawa is kind of Sochiro's successor. In both Job and team dad energy, and I doubt that would change with gender.
In contrast to Sochiro whose family is used to her being away, Aizawa is in more conflict with her spouse then canon, and feels guilty about it.
She's cooly polite to L, as L drives her absolutely nuts. And has a kind of tranquil furry building up towards her. An increasing air of "I'm done with your bullshit"
E:-Aizawa can be the voice of reason. And its amplified during times when the team needs to be grounded even if she doesn't like what L does. However Aizawa does show sympathy at times to L.
Aizawa has that scary outburst when she has had enough and those types who are consistent about the details of why she's at this point. A strong duty of justice but also loyalty to Soichiro.
K:-Do you think she should leave at the same point of when L pulls the money stunt. Or sooner, in part to be at least a better more present mother she feels her child needs her to be, while returning to a more scheduled time at the police force.
Family means a lot to her, after all.
E:- really? Yes. Yes she would especially seeing she would still be the bread winner.
Soichiro has just as much to stake one
K:-Yah, at one point Aizawa is having Martial troubles with his wife and comes in with a bruise.
E:-However Light is with him. Sayu is almost an adult, and his household is a lot more solid as to Aizawa's newborn child and his wife. Where they have a less stable financial status in case he ever died. Or as L had said no longer funded.
Aizawa want to do good and to do justice. Regardless of their gender its something so Aizawa. But duty and family is what makes him head to the door but breakdown leaving his team behind.
Oooh I forgot about that. Also Aizawa wanted to avenge his friends death too right.
K:- Yes. Though I think we averted or delayed that .
Wait doesn't he have a daughter too? Yumi?
E:-Wait what! Eyo i feel like we don't see much of their family. Did Matsuda have a dog or was I imagining that. I feel like fem Matsuda has a cat or some plants.
K:-I don't know if he would have time for a dog.But maybe he has an old dog he got from his friend. Can see a cat and some plants though. Does the cat get on with cat Misa?
E:-Matsuda does give rescue dog vibes.
Ah yes the cat named Misa. Have made a cameo. I honestly thought of Matsuda genuinely contemplating getting a mask for her dog......in case Kira can kill dogs
"Why would Kira do that?"
"I dunno feels like they can."
K:- Bringing his cat to the office would mean he got to spend more time with said cat.And the plants would have a better watering schedule there too.
In a nod to Australian Matsuda (KTPS4tv) i'm naming one of the pets Bikkie, (Biscuit)
E:-Hehehe. Matsuda moves her cat in and some plants in.
"Matsuda please remove your cat off of me."
"Awww thats sweet. She must really like you L."
"And I wanted to use the restroom for the past two hours."
Fem Matsuda gets a cat. She be lonely since she is single and has a very stressful job.
K:- name?
E:- Lets stay with Biscuit that sounds super cute.
K:-Does human Misa make an anti sugar comment?
E:-Lmao.  Probably hahaha

꧁Death Note Confessions: Why I think Kiyomi Takada is better than Misa Amane꧂
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just like the title suggests, this is a post about why Kiyomi is better than Misa. If you like Misa and don't want to hear her criticized, please don't read this post.
She never expressed any sorrow over losing Rem who died for her happiness. And I think it is often forgotten that she is not above killing innocents either— that time when she first met Light and offered to kill her friend she created videos with if he wanted her to. She offered to kill her own friend just because the said friend could be an inconvenience.🤦🏻‍♀️ (This shows she will easily dispose of people who are even those she considers friends) Furthermore, does anybody remember Hirokazu Ukita? She killed him just for trying to stop her tapes from being broadcasted at the Sakura TV station all in her desire to meet Kira. Oh, and another thing about her so-called "devotion" to Kira. She claims to be grateful to Kira for killing the criminal who killed her parents and she thinks Kira is good for the world yet she was ok with trying to catch him when she lost her memories just because her crush Light is trying to. There is little substance to her words. If she was really grateful to Kira and believed in the Kira cause, she wouldn't be cool with trying to catch him. Everything about her is fake…her voice filled with affectations that sounds like a whining child to me (in the Japanese version at least, I don't know how bad she sounds in other languages, when I hear her in English, I don't sense it as much), her hyper demeanor, and superficial friendliness. At the core, she is someone who cares for no one or nothing except for having Light as her boyfriend.
So, to begin with, I know Misa had it hard, and I do feel sorry for her that she had to suffer the death of her family. I do not mean to downplay her suffering in any way. However, this doesn't give her a free pass to go ruin the lives of other people or kill them. Based on watching Misa, it seems to me she has no morals, values, or principles, everything is about her selfish desire to have Light as her boyfriend no matter who or what she has to sacrifice to achieve this.
In comparison to this, I think Kiyomi has at least some sense of morality. My reasons being, she didn't force her way into Light's life, respected Light's basic human rights, and she did express some anxiety before executing criminals under Light's orders. Kiyomi didn't force Light into a relationship with her…she asked him permission to start a relationship with him. When Light disappeared for months and next thing she knows he's with Misa, she accepted Light loved another woman and stayed on good terms with him…that's classy of her. When Light approached her again six years later, she gave him another chance (despite six years is a very long time and technically he betrayed her when he left her for another woman) and was loyal to him. I’m no expert on relationships, but I can imagine taking back an ex-lover who left you for someone else is not an easy thing to do. If Kiyomi did not love Light, if their relationship was based on her pride, ego, and if to her, Light was only some handsome trophy, she would not have bothered. Another important thing to remember is, Light did tell Kiyomi he was ending things with Misa. Kiyomi also expressed shock and anxiety about killing criminals herself when Light first told her to do it, which shows despite her support for Kira, human lives are not something she will dispose of without second thought, unlike Misa's almost instant betrayal of the friend mentioned earlier in this post and those innocent police officers. Between her, Light, Misa, Higuchi, and Mikami…I'd say Kiyomi is probably the least cruel. Additionally, looking at the series as a whole, I get the feeling Kiyomi deserves Light's love much more than Misa does. I think it is often overlooked that Kiyomi does love Light, and her feelings were sincere. She loved Light as a person whether he was her boyfriend or not, unlike Misa who only loves Light as the concept of her perfect man. Kiyomi shows this in her respect for Light's decisions even when they are unpleasant things such as leaving her for another woman, but giving him another chance anyway, even long afterwards. If Light had been successful to rule over the world as Kira, I would rather have Kiyomi at his side than Misa. Even though I don't really like Kiyomi all that much either, I prefer her over Misa any day.
Now, if you read this post, whether you agree or disagree, thank you for hearing me out. And, if you like Misa, especially thank you because you are open-minded enough to listen to her being criticized. I in no way dislike Misa fans (I’m sure many of you are great people), I am only criticizing Misa the character herself. I wish you all a good day, evening, or night, wherever you are.

Head-canons about the task force team! (if there is any) 😅
Dear Anon,
Hello! Hahaha, I have a few I suppose!😊🖤
Aizawa swears...a lot. He tries to keep it under his breath, but the softer he speaks, the worse the cuss is.
Matsuda wants to listen to J-pop while working, trying to get the others into it. He's always burning CDs to bring in so they have music to work to. He comes in One day to find the CD player is broken (thank you Watari!). L says he will buy a new, but it never happens. Now Matsuda has to listen to his music through headphones.
When it's his turn to refill the pot, Ukita makes the world's strongest coffee, usually drinking it black. Other than him, only Light and Chief Yagami like it like this.
Matsuda likes the idea of casual Fridays. Usually only he participates, but now and then the others will come in in business casual instead of suits. Matsuda uses this as an opportunity to show off his favorite Hawaiian shirts that he somehow has gathered a large collection of and has no idea how.
For how quiet Mogi is, he has a wonderful singing voice. Sometimes he and Matsuda and Ukita will go to Karaoke and he always is a crowd favorite.
Now and then, Chief Yagami will bring in baked goods that Sachiko makes for everyone. This is one of L's favorite perks of working with others.

hey hey! i’ve decided to give posting my one-shots on tumblr a shot, but i also have >20 already posted on ao3. instead of going back and posting all of those individually, i’m putting a sort of masterpost here because i’m the kind of person who likes to have everything in one place. read onwards for yotsuba fic, task force fic, and admittedly not a whole lot else.
i’m wide awake, it’s morning - a series of 7 fics at present, written by @teethrotter and myself, that follows matsuda, aizawa, and ide after light’s death. matsuidezawa. written from 2018 to 2021. each fic stands alone. i don’t intend on writing any more, but dallas might. my fics include:
Out of Control - ide finds matsuda a few days after light’s death. matsuide. june 2018.
i’ve got reservations about so many things (but not about you) - aizawa, ide, and matsuda in america on the anniversary of light’s death. matsuidezawa. july 2018.
Bedside - aizawa and ide have a conversation, directly after the events of reservations. matsuidezawa, with an emphasis on aizaide. may 2019.
dots and stripes - matsuda, ide, and aizawa spend some time together shortly after the a-kira case. matsuidezawa. march 2020.
to my eye - ide takes a late-night walk. matsuidezawa, but mostly ide-centric. april 2021.
extensions - a series of 7 fics at present. follows the six remaining members of the yotsuba group in an AU where they aren’t killed by kira. various ships. written from 2017 to 2020, although i plan on writing more eventually. each fic stands alone.
nightlight - shimura and mido wake up after a night together. unrequited/unhealthy midomura. november 2019.
that joke isn’t funny anymore. - takahashi comforts shimura after an incident with namikawa. pre-relationship takamura. december 2017.
10:00 - ooi wakes up after a night with kida. ooida. august 2018.
out / in / on - shimura and takahashi move in together, with some help from mido. pre-relationship takamura. july 2018.
three’s a crowd - takahashi and mido have an argument while out drinking with shimura. takamura. august 2020.
darling, your head’s not right - takahashi wakes up late at night and shimura comforts him. takamura. february 2019.
quoting things you’ve never read - mido meets mogi via a dating app. momi. october 2019.
irradiated - slightly AU. takahashi hears from kida about hatori’s death. no ships. june 2021.
the head & the heart - movieverse, in an AU where uragami and kuromoto weren’t killed. the two of them go on a date together. kuromoto/uragami. may 2020.
throne of bayonets - shimura encounters ooi at hatori’s funeral. only vague ships. april 2020.
The Surprise of No One - hatori introduces shimura to higuchi. shimuchi, in the sense that higuchi is having an extended gay crisis. february 2020.
A FIG TREE, STRUCK BY LIGHTNING - AU, inspired by i have no mouth and i must scream. hatori’s ghost-robot-god-thing torments his former coworkers. extremely unhealthy hatomura. december 2019.
Old World Dawn - ide and aizawa share a moment together during the second arc. pre-relationship aizaide. january 2019.
Staircase Wit - AU in which shimura became a professional rugby player. higuchi and shimura meet and higuchi is enamoured. shimuchi. december 2018.
anticlimactic - high school AU in which the yotsuba group are in their school’s GSA together. higuchi and namikawa collaborate on a class project. namiguchi. december 2018.
never been in love - a series of moments between ide and matsuda over the course of their career together. matsuide. october 2018.
Miles Per Hour - college-ish AU. ide, ukita, aizawa, mogi, and matsuda take a road trip together. matsuide, brief namiguchi. june 2018.
i wanna get better - a series of moments between shimura and hatori over the course of their career together. hatomura. may 2018.
if you decide to read any of these, i hope you enjoy them!

Thoughts on your fave and least fave character designs in the cast?
I like most designs: from Sidoh's bird-like appearance to Naomi's shiny hair + leather jacket to Near's monochrome colour scheme; I love how Mikami's long hair is a contrast to his personality, and Ryuk, Misa and Mello's designs are iconic for a reason.
But if I had to pick just one, it would be L's. Not only do I adore how Obata draws jeans (and I don't even like jeans!) or his hair, but L's face is among my favourite of all fictional characters I know. It's the right kind of strange, awkward and - at times - creepy, and I'll forever be grateful that Obata decided to not make him conventionally attractive. That would have been incredibly boring, plus we already have Light and Misa. Not all main characters have to be models, haha
I said it a few times already, but I'm very into corvidae and probably every character design that even remotely reminds me of them. While I get the frog or panda comparison, I will always first and foremost associate him with ravens and crows:
Tumblr media
As for my least favourite design... There aren't many I absolutely hate, but I have to say, I'm not a fan of Ukita's:
Tumblr media
I find it kind of hard to take him seriously and can't stand how his hairline is drawn. While I can appreciate that the task force members all have their own distinctive look, Ukita's unfortunately has nothing I like to look at. And there are uglier DN characters, so it's not that.

I've seen Soichiro being supportive of his lgbt kids, what about Soichiro being supportive (even only lowkey) of lgbt taskforce (your choice pre or during kira)? I'm sorry but I really need to cheer up ahahah take your time no rush to answer
I think Soichiro is, at heart, a person with good intentions. He makes honest mistakes, but he tries his best to make everyone comfortable, in a quiet way. This is all pre-Kira stuff popping into my brain, so here we go! Hope you're feeling better, Anon!
He once saw Mogi out in the city hand in hand with another man but said nothing, just a curt nod in passing, which filled the policeman with dread.
The next day, he was asked to speak to the Chief alone, his mind racing with excuses he could give him.
When Yagami just assigned him his next case, his confusion is very clear on his usually stoic expression.
Soichiro noticed, so he told him he hoped he had a nice date before sending him off to deal with the new case. Mogi appreciated the quiet acceptance, worried that it could've compromised his job.
He asked Matsuda about the scars under his pecs one time in the changing room, finding peculiar that it was on both sides and not just one if it had been because of a heart condition.
He didn't want to be rude, he just wanted to know if he had a health condition Soichiro wasn't aware of in case he needed to adjust the agent's workload.
Matsuda was beet red, unsure how to answer the Chief, until Aizawa, who knew about him being trans, came to the rescue.
He took Soichiro to the side and explained to him what the scars were actually from.
Soichiro promptly apologized to Matsuda, telling him his past was none of his concern, and that he shouldn't have pointed out his scars.
Not too long after that, he overheard two agents making fun of Matsuda in the break room, mocking his high-pitched voice, telling the agent how he should stop playing dress up and just be their secretary instead.
Those agents got transferred to another unit the very next day, much to Matsuda's relief.
At some point, the hot gossip in the department was whether agent Ukita and agent Ide were secretly dating or just weirdly close.
It was only a matter of time until it reached the ears of the higher-ups, with Kitamura asking Yagami to deal with the situation.
He brought both agents into an office, and asked if they were involved romantically, which they admitted they were.
Yagami simply handed the paperwork they needed to complete, HR needed to know about any relationship between agents, just a formality, since they were the same rank.
Ide asked Soichiro if they were going to lose their jobs for this, but he reassured the agent that, while he couldn't really understand it, it was none of his business, and he would ensure they didn't get fired for it.
Chief Yagami's screaming match with Kitamura defending his officers is still talked about years later in the precinct.

what would romanian death note characters names AND surnames be.
okay so, this question came at the right time cuz me and @maevearcher were talking about this a few days ago lmao. i'm going to put the meaning of the surnames (where possible) but usually that's hard & they might also not be as funny as they are to romanians.
but yeah. the council has decided:
WAMMY'S HOUSE:
L Lawliet -> L Leușteanu (= lovage) Nate River -> Nicolae Ristache Mihael Keehl -> Mihai Cercel (= earring) Mail Jeevas -> Matei Jurubiță Quallish Wammy -> Cătălin Voicu Roger Ruvie -> Rareş Rotariu (= has to do with jobs that involve things that are round)
YAGAMI FAMILY:

Does anyone else wonder if all Light would have wanted was to dispense justice instead of being god, he could have continued killing criminals for decades instead of years?
If he’d been less confrontational instead of wanting to proclaim his judgment to the world, and hadn’t killed all those officers and the like, we could have sympathtized more?
Tbh, until Light killed Ray Penber and those FBI agents, especially until he killed Naomi Misora, I understood his motives, even agreed with him to an extent.
But he just went too far. Damn your god complex Light!
Also, does anyone else’s heart break for Sachiko Yagami? Her daughter is too traumatized to function normally, her husband died, her son inadvertently caused the first two and died after being confirmed as possibly the worse serial killer in their history. Hell, even her kinda daughter-in-law committed suicide and Sachiko’s been oblivious all this time and it’s going to come crashing down on her.
Imagine Wammy’s house now. Near, Roger and the other kids thinking about L, Mello, Matt and Watari. A house full of amazingly smart people and they lose three of their smartest members and benefactor to a single case!
The Japanese Taskforce, jfc look at Matsuda! All of them thinking about the last six years of their lives, how they spent it trying to catch this man, lost their comrade and chief, only for it to be a guy who’d been their comrade and leader all this time?!
Well, perhaps they can still use the idea of Kira to keep the crime rate low. At least some good should come out of this.
(Apart from Ryuk’s alleviation of boredom, that is.)
