A Mother's wish
Inspired by the closing movie scene of Birthright. I could imagine them embracing under the Statue of Mikoto in the central plaza and their mother symbolically hugging them too. What a special moment, I'm sure this would be an important memory for Corrin.

My FE14 AU - What if the Hoshidan siblings were related to Corrin… and were dragons!
(Sorry that this is late @moneyisthebestlawyerinh3ll but I managed it now)
• In this AU, Mikoto held the power to turn into a dragon for she was given some blood of Anankos. After certain events in Valla, she fled to Hoshido where she met King Sumeragi.
• They fell in love and he became the only one outside of Valla whom knew about her dragon powers, promising not to let anyone else know for it could cause chaos in the kingdom.
• This power was later passed down to their five children; all of them were told to keep it secret as well.
• When children, they could only sprout their horns, tails, teeth and run on all fours with claws.
• Ryoma liked being a dragon as a kid. He learned to hunt on the castle grounds and play fight with Hinoka occasionally. Unfortunately, his full dragon form was huge and destructive, he took out half of Castle Shirasagi. Now as a mature adult, he prefers to remain human.
(But if the situation calls for it, or if he’s angry enough, he will go full out with the dragonstone)
• Hinoka was about the same as Ryoma when younger, only she quitted being like a dragon so she could learn the naginata instead. Because she became a sky knight, her dragon form evolved to have pegasus like wings. She still remained human most of the time, even after reuniting with Corrin.
• Takumi never liked the fact of inheriting dragon powers, in fact, he hated it. He repeatedly called it a curse no matter how much his mother and older siblings tried to convinced him. After seeing Corrin in action with their’s, he slowly accepted that part of himself and fought alongside them.
• Did I forgot to mention that Corrin and Takumi are twins in this AU? (Takumi is the youngest) so their dragon forms look very similar with different colors.
• Sakura was the most insecure about her powers, hence why she grew her hair out so it would hide her pointed ears. Like Takumi, she embraced it once seeing Corrin battling in their form and learned to become a fighter herself. Her dragon may be smaller than the others, but her wings made the perfect defence shield.
• Lastly, all five were given the dragonstones by Azura (probably parts of her amulet). They all embraced being dragons once the great war was finally over.

Hi, I saw your post about Ryoma coming to the (incorrect) conclusion that Corrin is biological related to Garon and it was really interesting! Do you have any more in-universe misconceptions like it? Thanks
I do. Thank you for your patience.
A bit less of a misconception by the characters, so much as a lie given by one of the characters, and that is why was Takumi was in the Port of Dia? He is invading in a diffrent place then planned, because he was on his way to rescue Azura.
But of course, once he sees Azura with the enemy, he venomantly denies that.
If you have Azura face him, he starts the dialouge surprised.
"Azura?! Last I heard, you were taken by Hoshidan soldiers. Ryoma worried himself sick planning your rescue."
Before decending into anger upon realizing she is there with the enemy.
"I told him it was pointless. And you proved me right, you Nohrian traitor. You should be ashamed."
Hinoka's opening dialouge if Azura fights her is ready to welcome her back.
" Thank goodness you’re safe! I was so upset when I heard you were missing. I’m sorry we couldn’t stop those rogue soldiers from taking you away. You must have gone through a lot of pain and suffering, but it’s over now. Come on back to Hoshido with me, I’ll keep you safe from the Nohrians."
And ends with Hinoka feeling betrayed by Azura's decision to switch sides.
"So you’re to betray us too? …So be it."
Ryoma, by the time you face him has already been told by Takumi and Hinoka.
"Azura... Hinoka and Takumi told me you were fighting with the enemy. I had to see it with my own eyes to believe it. What a pity. I suppose the Nohrian blood flowing in your veins lends itself to betrayal.."
In fact, they are far more upset about Azura betraying them then Corrin. Except Takumi, who is equally upset at both.
Now I'm not a warfare expert, but was Port Dia stratigically important? Not according to the reactions of the residents from what we see when warned. They seem confused and baffled.
Old Woman:" Say what? This town is caught up in the war between Nohr and Hoshido?"
Old Man: "Eh? This town is now a battlefield, you say? What in tarnation-"
Girl: "Oh dear! I've heard rumors about the war, but I never thought it would reach us here. "
Boy:" Dang, I had a feeling somethin' was up when I heard all that commotion. Never thought this town would see war."
They are not expecting the war. Which probably indicates this place isn't an ideal place to launch an invasion. What I looked up about Port cities in supply chains (not that I know much), indicate that "ports are usuable if the imeadite area is secure enough to avoid persistant attacks and capacity to process good sized shipments." Of course, we can't fully tell the size of the city from what we see of an in game battle map, but from what we do see and the reaction of the civilians, Port Dia is not considered stratigically important. Or at least, not important enough for them to be conisdered the location for the first official battle between home and invading army's.
So why did Takumi pick Port Dia to invade first? Particularly if they are Allied With Cheve? Wouldn't a landmass above or below the opera house suit better, and be better able to bring aid to their allies? The Opera house is where they went in Birthright, so why the change?
The only real reason I can find for Takumi to be invading Port Dia, is to grab Azura, and Make their way to Cheve or Macarath depending on the timeline and strength of Intel.
Which raises the question of when he fell into the Bottomless Canyon, as when faced in chapter 13, he has a diffrent battle theme from his siblings, which paired with his dialouge, indicates posession that wasn't present earlier. Then again, falling into the Bottomless Canyon probably isn't the only possible way to get posessed, as I highly doubt Pre-Possession Garon would go there for the funzies, so perhaps there are other ways of attaining influance in the minds of those who don't fall down an abyss into zombieland, particularly when you consider that the royals have dragon blood passed down through the bloodline, and in Fire Emblem, dragons-particularly old ones -are at risk of degeneration, and so become Manaketes to avoid it. Not all do.
So I wonder if Anankos is capable of using intense feelings of anger and despair to induce a sort of mental degeneration and manipulate targets to going with his goals. Takumi's intense feelings of betrayal, inferiority complex and dragon blood make him easy to persuade to go along this goal.
For all he claims he expected the avatar to be a traitor, he also has one of the faster support growths with the Avatar, something he lacks with both Hinoka and Hinata. Of course, the Avatar has fast support growths with all their siblings, but given how hostile Takumi starts off with them, you would think that shows in gameplay mechanics, and that it stays has some intresting implications.
The Nohrians fast support with all their siblings and both of their retainers, save for Xander who does not have fast support with Laslow. It makes some amount of sense, as Xander has lost retainers in the past, and Laslow was not one he chose personally. In contrast Ryoma is the only one who fast supports with all his siblings and both retainers. Unless something didn't make it on to Serenes forest, the next highest is Sakura who fast supports Corncob, her brothers, and both retainers, then Takumi, with Hinoka at the least, only fast supporting Ryoma out of all her siblings.
None of them fast support Azura, which could have been interesting, and Kaze only fast supports his brother, which parallels Flora, to their siblings Felicia and Saizo who fast support with their fellow retainer and Lord alongside their sibling. They are also both capable of picking a different loyalty then the one they start the game with.
What you can pick up about the bonds between the characters based on combat classes tell you things about the characters that add to their relationships I think.

After reading the bottom of the FE crossover post now I'm thinking about Desmond taking Azura's position of Nohr noble taken captive by hoshido and pushing Azura into more third party territory
From @shadowpack12
Please can we get a fanfic of Desmond in FE: Fates. Please! I’m begging
I cannot write a full fic for this but I can make up ideas. I hope that will be okay :)
The FE: Fates idea that this is talking about is the bottom part of this FE x AC idea I had.
I know you said Nohr royalty but hear me out.
Okay, so in this scenario, we’re going full on isekai’ed Desmond but with an additional caveat. He deages to the same age Corrin is when she was kidnapped. And, in this case, we’ll go further and make him the twin brother of Corrin (up to you whatever gender Corrin is) who Garon was unable to kidnap together with Corrin.
In this one, we can set it up with the idea that Desmond doesn’t remember anything and people around him believe that he has amnesia because of the trauma of seeing their father die and his twin kidnapped while he ran away.
Desmond isn’t sure if this is necessarily true.
It was also possible that he had been reincarnated as this prince who is also called Desmond (although it would probably be more accurate that people around this part call him Desumon… but they sound the same more or less anyway).
Desmond knows he has a missing twin and he is worried, absolutely worried, sure, but, at the same time, he was in a young child’s body with no real information about the world.
So…
He had no choice but to focus on growing up and learning everything he has about this world.
When Desmond turned fourteen, he starts to have dreams of a woman with flowing blue hair and wearing a white dress.
She would always be singing by the lake.
The dream would always stop before she turned around.
Fifteen years since Desmond had woken up in this world…
The dream changed and he finally sees the woman turn around.
And the first thing she ever spoke to him was…
“Please… save everyone.”
Before Desmond could say anything, he wakes up…
To one of servants informing him that his vassal Kaze has returned…
… with his long lost twin.
Unorganized Notes:
Since every royalty needs to have 2 retainers, Kaze will become Desmond’s vassal. In this situation, Kaze will be one of his retainers (sorry, Corrin). His other retainer would be Shura who Desmond took in when he saw guards of Hoshida deny him entry.
Desmond also took in all the other refugees and survivors from Kohga. Mainly because he couldn’t turn a blind eye to them but also… because he knew that their skills as ninjas would help him make his own Brotherhood.
Of course, there’s a bit of a “???” on the timeline considering Kohga was invaded by Mokushu before the Nohr-Hoshido conflict so either we tweak the timeline or we change this with Desmond making contact with Shura and the other survivors a few years afterwards. Either way, his relationship with Shura is more of a partnership where Shura and the other Kohga survivors and refugees are under Desmond’s protection and Desmond promised that he’d help them take back their country.
So Desmond had actually been in the process of making plans to take care of the Mokushu (and Kotaro) while creating his own Brotherhood when Corrin ‘returns’ to Hoshido.
Desmond knows he’s not blood-related to them but he still calls them his siblings. He and Ryoma respect one another but Desmond’s usual “I’ll throw away my honor if it means I can save people” makes him butt heads with Ryoma at times, mostly because Ryoma is worried just how ‘far’ Desmond is willing to go. Saizo is always serious and polite around him and Desmond likes to joke around just to poke at him. Saizo is also very hard on Kaze and always remind him to make sure to protect Desmond. Kagero is usually more reserved but she’s also the one who keeps trying to remind Ryoma to ease up on Desmond because she knows that Ryoma is trying but Desmond tend to misunderstand his words at times.
Hinoka and Desmond are close and Desmond sometimes treats Hinoka the way Ezio treats Claudia. Lots of teasing and light-hearted conversation. Hinoka is the one who always tries to remind Desmond to not take Ryoma’s words too seriously. Azama gives Desmond a headache at times but they’re not in bad terms. Desmond also worries a lot about Setsuna because of how reckless she can be.
Takumi has double the inferiority complex this time around because of Desmond and Ryoma being leagues stronger than him. It’s also annoying for him because Desmond talk to him a lot because Desmond could see Takumi’s inferiority complex a mile away and tries to help. He’s not sure if he’s actually helping and he’s acting the way he wished someone had acted around him with his own inferiority complex (and Desmond has loads of it considering he feels inferior to three Master Assassins and one Grand Master, add in a sprinkling of thinking William Miles is always disappointed at him). Oboro and Hinata both see this and they always love it when Desmond visits Takumi. Oboro is also the one who made the Assassin robes under Desmond’s ‘designs’ which she updated to feel more Hoshido-esque with Desmond’s approval. Hinata likes to spar with Desmond and uses the time they spar to talk about Takumi and how much they’re worrying about him. Desmond suggested they try treating Takumi more as a friend than their ‘boss’ as Desmond think Takumi might be lonely. The two are trying… with varying success.
Sakura loves Desmond and likes to call him ‘big brother’. Sakura actually grew up with Desmond taking care of her a lot of times (because Desmond likes to play hooky). It’s because of Desmond’s influence that she hides a dagger in her clothes and she knows how to use it. Sakura would probably be the most ‘changed’ among the royalties. Her personality is pretty much the same but she’s less shy and there are times when she can perfectly mimic Desmond. It usually means someone really bad is about to die. Hana has a crush on Desmond. Desmond knows it but he sees Hana as a little sister and treats her like, patting her head and such. That only makes Hana’s crush harder and Desmond finally understood how Altaïr felt towards Kadar. Subaki is always polite around Desmond and Desmond tries to make him ease up a lot but it’s taking a lot of time which Desmond is fine with.
(I skipped the other Hoshido characters because Desmond would probably not have met them until the start of the ‘main story’).
Speaking of which…
Corrin chooses Nohr in this situation and the Yato actually splits into two with Corrin receiving one and the other going to Desmond.
Desmond is driven by revenge as well but he also knows that Corrin’s devastation over the death of their mother is real which is why he tries to get more information while staying in Hoshido’s side.
After he meets Corrin once more, he doesn’t dream of the woman with blue hair but…
He receives her pendant at the same time Yato splits into two.
Desmond cannot transform into a dragon and no one knows why.
This one would feel like it’s going for a Conquest and Birthright route at the same time then will pull into the Revelations route after Desmond and Corrin finally talk (both of them trying to minimize the death count).
Once they get to Valla, they’re greeted by a message made of water from the blue haired woman who calls herself Azura. She tells them the truth… She made a deal with a ‘god’ from another world to pull the soul of a newly departed ‘hero’ into their world and to turn back time. That soul was Desmond. She did all of this because the real Corrin chose a path paid with blood (although it’s not clear if she chose Nohr or Hoshido) but the real enemy managed to push the world into a ‘bad ending’ of some sort even after all those sacrifices. In exchange for her ‘spot’, Desmond became Corrin’s twin. The message ends with Azura requesting them to defeat the true enemy of this world and bring true peace.
Azura is alive but she’s somewhere in Valla, only able to leave message to guide Corrin and Desmond that she had prepared beforehand so the two also made it their mission to find Azura as well.

[A last minute] Day 7 of Fates week: revelation (ft. faintly, Corrin, Elise, Leo, Camilla, Xander, Ryoma, Hinoka, Takumi, Sakura and Azura)

Because Fates having blood linked to divine weapons/ Sakura with Raijinto was brought up, I would like to throw down my take of "I think it would have been more interesting if Hinoka and Camilla were the focal points of trying to sway Corrin to their side". As someone else brought up, Ryoma was kind of an ass for bringing up the whole "you're our blood so you should come back to us" despite knowing they aren't blood, so it's solved with Hinoka vs Camilla convincing Corrin instead. Camilla with her smothering big sister vibes vs Hinoka who worked so hard just to rescue you and bring you home (without the lying baggage) would have been a harder argument for me.
(also glad I didn't look up Ryoma's support until after Revelations because I think I'd be pissed considering I chose Hoshido for the blood family + Corrin was kidnapped)

Support differences of the Hoshidan siblings from the Original script vs the English localization
They say that in the Original Japanese version of Fates there are many changes that were different from what we got in the English localization. So I wanted to see for myself if that was true, however, I don’t know Japanese yet, I’m still starting. Very fortunately, I found a translation mod and this is the closest thing I could feel to the original.
Tumblr media
And when I played it, I did not expect differences in the script and supports, they are not just mere translations or rewording. And the whole time I was like “WHY DID THEY REMOVE THAT?! It makes more sense and flavour for the story, and without it, there would be gaps in the story. But on the flip side there are things I like in the localization and funnily it added more flavour too.
Thus, I would like to share what I noticed with the support differences with the Hoshidan siblings in my Birthright run.Mostly the main theme of the supports are the same however the mood, feeling and tone would be changed if some lines are removed or changed, I notice the changes could affect  Corrin/Kamui’s relationship with his siblings.
--Very long post ahead--
Note that I would use Corrin’s Japanese Hoshidan name, Kamui interchangeably for flavour. I would use Corrin for the EN while Kamui for the JP.
Let’s start with Hinoka, because I noticed a few differences.
Hinoka’s support’s seems to be the same in both version but in the localization it feels worded better since in EN she felt relieved and proud to be Corrin’s big sister but in JP she still feels guilty of what she did with Mikoto and doesn’t feel she deserves to be Kamui’s big sister. This is one of the few times I prefer the EN version, however this is one of my least favourite supports so I can’t impartially look at this.
Tumblr media
For the rest of the siblings,it is way longer and I will go through every little detail I noticed.
Sakura and Kamui
C SUPPORT:
Besides some changes in the wordings and such, I could not notice major differences in tone or mood of the script that changes the flavour of the conversation even though the Japanese script seems to be longer.
B SUPPORT:
In the EN version, the conversation starts with Corrin asking Sakura questions right away about why she wanted to become a priestess, it’s more like an interview. However, in the JP version it is longer and feels like a conversation— Kamui starts by discussing a book on History and gods which was cut out in EN, here Kamui tries to connect with her anxious and awkward little sister.
Tumblr media
This may be minor or not, and the localizations may not be translated word for word, but I noticed the differences between the portraits of the two versions. It seems that Kamui is more direct and Sakura is more anxious or uneasy in the EN ver than in the JP where Kamui is more patient and Sakura is calmer. We can also notice these portrait differences with other supports.
Tumblr media
A SUPPORT:
This part is very noticeable, the EN version is so condensed than the Japanese version that it lost meaning than the original where it shows a lot why Sakura she is now— the causes of her anxiety and overthinking. The JP version expanded Sakura’s overthinking that shows her scenario of what-ifs, like if she was the one who was actually kidnapped, Big brother Kamui would be the one would be worried, and she really feels bad about Kamui’s kidnapping and fears Kamui would not be kind to her which this leads to her more anxiety. Kamui reassures his little sister Sakura that it’s all okay and he will always be there for her.
You can see that the EN is awfully shorter than JP. And JP Kamui’s words are more caring and worried while EN Corrin feels pity.
Tumblr media
MY THOUGHTS:
As you saw,the EN version is awfully short and many parts were cut/condensed that it paints that Sakura is just very anxious and Corrin is direct with his words and looks at her with pity making her more anxious. Compared to the JP version, it gives full context and story why she’s so anxious, socially and mentally. It shows the whole story why she is an overthinker, and the whole reason why is scared of facing her lost sibling knowing she was originally planned to be taken according to rumours and she feels guilty to be not taken. I also like the flow of their conversation because it shows Kamui is trying to connect with Sakura and not scaring her too much with questions compared to the EN version. I especially love the last part of their A-support where Kamui says that he will protect her as a Big brother and never leave her precious little sister’s side. Most of all, I love the JP version because it made me appreciate Sakura a lot more because honestly when I first read the EN version it felt lacking.
The EN version is so short that I suspect: Do they have a word limit counter?
Takumi & Kamui
C SUPPORT:
In EN Corrin wants to connect to Takumi, but his response is hostile and they’re being sarcastic with each other due to Corrin’s background with Nohr. Corrin wants to learn archery to prove his loyalty and dedication to Hoshido, to gain trust and give him a chance to prove himself in battle his loyalty.
In JP, Kamui wants to connect with Takumi like in EN BUT because he wants to bond with him. Takumi isn’t fully trusting him but he is open to bond with Kamui unlike his reactions in EN. As Kamui didn’t grow up with Takumi, he didn't know what to talk about and it became awkward. As Kamui sees that Takumi is into archery, learning through him would be a good place to start bonding.
Comparing the two versions, you will see that EN’s theme is all about loyalty, while the JP version is about sibling bonding. [Skipped lines means they are exactly the same]
Tumblr media
Like I said, EN Takumi is more sarcastic and hard on Corrin versus the JP version. Also take note of these closing lines of the JP version because it will appear again in their A-support and it’s worth mentioning.
B SUPPORT:
In this support, it shows Takumi teaching Corrin archery, then taking a break. When EN Corrin says that Takumi makes it look easy, he does not take this well and sees it as sarcasm and when talking about archery they both just brush it off as effortless. But in the JP,when Kamui expresses that archery is harder than it looks. JP Takumi gives his insights about the beauty and effort of archery which was cut out in EN. Kamui praises Takumi how amazing Takumi is and Takumi didn’t expect such praise that it caught him off guard other than the sarcastic remark in EN.
You can see how the EN version again condensed the JP script comparing the two. In short. The EN version shows Takumi doing it effortlessly while the JP version shows beauty and perfection in archery.
Tumblr media
A SUPPORT:
At the end of the B support Corrin injured his hand and in this A support he still strives to learn archery despite his injuries.
In EN, Corrin says that Takumi is a strict but a good teacher and he hoped that Corrin was worth his time. Then Takumi admits that he is good but doubts him. This shows that he’s truly dedicated and loyal to Hoshido and wants to continue to train him.
But in JP, the whole time Kamui is genuinely excited to learn, you could tell he wants to bond with his little brother Takumi, and compliments him how amazing he is. And in turn, Takumi is liking Kamui and sees what a gentle and kind person he is and now sees him as a sibling and enjoying his company. This recognition makes Kamui very happy.
The major changes in themes you would notice is that in EN Corrin is doing it as an obligation/business to prove his loyalty and dedication. And in JP that Kamui wants to connect and know more about Takumi who once was hostile to him, it is a true sibling bonding and to have connection.
Tumblr media
Remember those final lines in their C-support, it’s cute in A-support there’s a call back to that in the JP version: “Please treat me well, big brother Kamui”.
Tumblr media
MY THOUGHTS:
Takumi and Kamui’s relationship is interesting because it had a rocky start. I always find their dynamic interesting and I am curious how their support would play out. When I first read the EN supports, it didn’t feel like they’re connecting, it felt more like a business relationship and just doing it to resolve things. When I read these supports in JP, I LOVE IT! It mending their relationship, it felt more meaningful than the EN version, and it felt like a genuine sibling bonding.
The whole time I was reading the JP version , I was like “WHYYYY???????!!”. Why the heck the localization team rewrote this from a nice bonding/connecting to just doing it to prove loyalty. In the original Takumi is more receptive and I love the final lines of Takumi, “please treat me well, Big Brother” because he also said that in C-support too, I love that call back it shows that Takumi has trust with Kamui as a sibling. The JP version shows Takumi’s passion and love for archery through expressing the beauty and striving for perfection.  While EN Takumi is just reactive and too proud. Dammit localization team!
In short EN version made it about duty, dedication and loyalty vs JP version’s sibling bonding and connection.
Ryouma and Kamui
C SUPPORT:
In this support Kamui wanted to know about his Hoshidan siblings when he was taken away and wanted to connect. In JP Ryouma looks forward to talking and excited to connect with Kamui and he even has a gift that has a lot of meaning to him. It felt more sincere and warm . He is accommodating, and even tells Kamui that they, his siblings,  have a good opinion on Kamui. However, EN Ryoma tells Corrin’s situation is just sad or unhappy and his conversation felt short, and he is too busy that they’ll talk in another time.
As you can see again that EN is shortened and condensed again than the original which loses the meaning and expression of desire of Ryouma to get close with Kamui.
Tumblr media
B SUPPORT:
In this support Ryouma is describing his siblings, both versions felt the same but EN Ryoma is shown to be very busy again and when he talks about his siblings it’s brief and it seems that his mind is somewhere else. But in JP he is very eager to talk to Kamui and takes his time. You can see in the first part of this conversation he does not imply he is busy unlike in EN, and when talking about his siblings it felt more detailed. However it’s too long that I couldn’t add the screenshot here. The huge difference can be noticed in the last part of this support.
When Kamui feels left out from Ryouma’s stories, it feels more depressing with his reply in EN where he reiterates that his background is troubling and sad— “Your story is troubling one”. In contrast to JP Ryouma, He comforts Kamui and is very thankful and happy that Kamui is back to them safely and he values his moments with Kamui — “I am grateful you treasure our moments together”.
Notice the contrasts with their portraits:
Tumblr media
A SUPPORT:
Corrin felt left out and melancholic when Ryoma was talking about their siblings, in JP version the way he handle it that he is more caring, concerned and brotherly which makes Kamui very happy and comforted, which the conversation again is longer and meaningful than EN, which is short and condensed.
Tumblr media
Little detail I noticed comparing the two: It felt out of place with the Ryoma shouting in this part which didn’t happen in the original version.
Tumblr media
Later in the support, Corrin is given a ring from Ryoma and their siblings. In JP there's additional information, the ring is a prayer ring for self-defence particularly. Comparing the two it seems lines in the EN  are condensed vs the original with Corrin’s reaction when given a ring. Also take note of the closing part of the JP version it says that link as siblings vs ties of EN.
Tumblr media
Again, I noticed a little detail with the differences with the portraits:
“Happy to have you”, frown portrait lol
Tumblr media
MY THOUGHTS:
The EN version seems to lean more about Corrin’s background and more of how sad his situation is while the JP version is more on sibling bonding and connection. The JP version is what I had expected of their supports,as the long lost sibling I am sure the eldest brother would be very hyped to connect with Corrin/Kamui, but in EN and it doesn’t feel that way and I even didn’t like their supports at first in EN  as Ryoma felt a bit distant and  it felt something was missing and now I found out that many was cut out from the original. Now I love their support more, especially that in JP that it felt more caring and there is brotherly bond and connection that was lost in the localization.
Also another thing I noticed, it seems JP Ryoma seems calmer and nicer than in EN, in the supports and in the main story. In EN it feels like he’s rash, tempered or temperamental. I have a conspiracy theory that the localization team is trying to do a character assassination attempt with Ryoma. Though I have no solid proof at the moment but if ever in the future when I am fluent with Japanese, I’ll do a deep dive into how they changed the characterization of Ryoma and the rest of the cast.
CONCLUSION:
I always thought that there would be few differences between JP vs EN but now see is that is not the case, there are many changes made for the international audience, both little to huge. I didn't even expect that they would change small details like portraits that would make subtle changes.
Is there a word count limit for the localizers?
As you can see time and time again,  EN is way shorter than JP that results in meaning and sincerity gone, and warm interactions become cold. Cutting the script made it bad. Are they lazy?! Or were they rushed?
Most of all. Why am I fussing about these? About Corrin’s/Kamui’s relationship with the Hoshidan Siblings?
Because I was expecting that the siblings would be very welcoming to Corrin especially as a long lost sibling and eager to reconnect . I was so disappointed in the EN version that it seems that they aren’t much interested and Corrin doesn't feel welcome. It is upsetting especially that’s one of the reasons for choosing them and to be at their side and the whole theme of the plot is which family would you be with.
When I played the original/ JP version, albeit with translation mod, I am so happy to find that in the original JP version that they are warm, welcoming and want to connect with Kamui, and it feels like they have a genuine sibling bonding, making choosing them very worthwhile. It did improve my opinion of them and I love them more.
I have a hypothesis, why EN toned down the sibling bonding due to S supports. Probably it would be awkward with all that sibling talk, afterwards to marry them. Personally I really don’t like Corrin marrying the siblings, it ruined the story for me. I pretend that those S-supports never existed and that is why I didn’t include those in this write-up.
So does this mean I’m one of those “the Original is better” persons, NO. I’m more into good writing, it so happens most meaningful interactions are in the JP script. And to be fair with EN, there are things I like with the changes like Corrin’s supports with Hinoka, Rinka, which surprisingly feels better than the original.
I could go deeper if only I knew Japanese so that I could notice the nuances and subtleties which were lost in translation. For now I’ll make do with these translations and hope that the translations are accurate. And hopefully someday I could look back with this write-up and make improvements.
That’s all and THANK YOU!! Thank you for reading this long essay. This took me months to write and I truly appreciate you taking your time to read this. I hope it sees the Hoshidan siblings in a better light.
