PRONOUN MASTERPOST
This was a request from Jollysunflora so I’ll go through the pronouns in each language in each language from simplest to most complex *cough* Fire-ese *cough*
Earth-ese In Earth-ese the pronouns are fairly simple. They don’t change for case and are more or less consistent throughout the whole Earth Kingdom. It’s no wonder United Republic-ans chose these over the Fire-ese pronouns.
Jei – 1st-person pronoun: ‘me’, ‘I’
Su – 2nd-person pronoun: ‘you’
Nope – 3rd-person pronoun (pronounced either 1 syllable or 2 syllables depending on the accent). This refers to a human whose gender is either unspecified, unsure, or neither male or female.
Lu – 3rd-person pronoun, used for a female human: ‘she’, ‘her’
Man – 3rd-person pronoun, used for a male human: ‘he’, ‘him’
Ca – 3rd-person pronoun, used for non-humans like: ‘it’
Now, I have left out ‘we’ and ‘they’ here because this is where Earth-ese differs from English a bit, but it’s still fairly simple.
The word-order of Earth-ese actually allows you to put as many pronouns next to each other as you need. So, instead of ‘we’ you either say ‘me and you’ (jei su) or ‘me and you and her’ (jei su lu) or however pronouns describe what you’re referring to.
‘They’ as in a large group of varied people can be ‘Nope lu man’ or ‘man lu’ but in the Southern dialect it is also common to just add the plural suffix ‘-chong’, such as ‘Nopechong’.
For ‘you’ when referring to a large group, Northern Earth-ese speaker would say ‘Su su’ as in ‘you and you’ but in Southern Earth-ese it is more common to say ‘Suchong’.
There are no formal versions of these pronouns as formality and politeness are often added at the start of the sentence with context words in a similar way to ‘please’. Although, in some Southern dialects they suffix these context words onto the pronouns, similar to the plural marker.
UR Fire-ese I actually lied. UR Fire-ese probably has the easiest pronouns but since they’re derived from the Earth-ese pronouns I thought it was easier to explain those first.
Anyway, UR Fire-ese took ‘Jei’, ‘Su’, ‘Nope’, ‘Lu’, ‘Man’, and ‘Ca’ from Earth-ese but simplified the plural pronouns using the Fire-ese plural suffix ‘-ghan’ (Pronounced ‘-gan’ in the UR). Fire-ese also has a dual suffix (-zu) but since Earth-ese does not it is only used emphatically in UR Fire-ese.
Jeigan – ‘we’, ‘us’
No-pe-gan – ‘they’, ‘them’ (human)
Cagan – ‘they’, ‘them’ (non-human)
While the ‘-ghan’ suffix can be used on any of the other pronouns, these two were the most commonly accepted in general speech. ‘Sugan’ or ‘Suzu’ or ‘Lugan’ are all understood but only really used when you want to be specific, like specifically saying ‘You all’ or ‘the pair of women’.
However, UR Fire-ese is still Fire-ese and the closer you speak to Mainland Fire-ese the ‘posher’ you are perceived. These pronouns are still vastly preferred but a few very posh/formal speakers add Fire-ese pronouns, usually derived from a person’s title, almost like an honorific.
For example, the Council Page Tarrlok sent to convince Korra to join the taskforce. He would say something along the lines of: “Councilman Tarrlok sends his compliments and urges the Avatar to reconsider his offer.” Despite being a Fire-ese addition, this is often combined with the Earth-ese articles like ‘the’.
Most people make fun of this practice as it sounds like you’re speaking in third person.
Air-ese
Air-ese don’t conjugate for number, gender, or formality so in effect they only have 3 pronouns:
Fa – 1st-person: ‘me’, ‘I’, we’, ‘us’
Ka – 2nd-peron: ‘you’
Ta – 3rd-person: ‘she’, ‘her’, ‘he’, ‘him’, ‘it’, ‘they’
But everything in Air-ese has to conjugate for case to be understood so these are either used as the ‘f-‘, ‘k-‘, and ‘t-‘ prefixes or the ‘-fa’, ‘-ka’, and ‘-ta’ suffixes.
In a noun phrase, you would add ‘(l)ang’ to them: fang/langfa, kang/langka, tang/langta
If the pronoun refers to the subject of a transitive verb (she kicked him), you add a ‘(h)ik’: fik/hikfa, kik/hikka, tik/hikta
Object of a transitive verb (she kicked him), you add a ‘(t)ag’: fag/tagfa, kag/tagka, tag/tagta
Agent of an intransitive verb (she sleeps), you add a ‘(l)in’: fin/linfa, kin/linka, tin/linta
There are other cases which I’ll list in a later post so with Air-ese it is easiest to learn the individual parts and construct them as you go.
Water-ese
Okay, looking at things now I am starting to see a pattern. Why do I hate ‘we’ and ‘them’ so much? Not a single one of my conlangs ended up having a single word for them.
Oh well. Anyway, Northern Water-ese has 10 pronouns, each of which have a plural form, and each of which have a separate form for the subject of the verb and the object of the verb. That equates to…60 forms total. Thank goodness they’re regular! Once again, you just have to learn the basic building blocks and smash them together.
Tumblr media
Inside a verb as an indirect object or something similar, they appear as either the onset or the coda listed in the second column e.g. “Nisok kaguroonga giq!” The verb here is broken down into: [enjoy-hope-3rd.immaterial-present] -> [ka-guroon-g-a] which the ‘-g-’ referring to the immaterial blog which will make happy.
In Water-ese, instead of a formal/informal distinction like French there is a familiar/unfamiliar distinction. The 2nd-person changes depending on how well you know the person, whether they are a stranger or not. Although, there is a formal 2nd-person used for people with a high status.
The 3rd-person pronouns are split into ‘animate’ pronouns and ‘inanimate’ pronouns. You separate humans and animals into either ‘male’ or ‘female’ while spirits have their own 3rd-person pronoun. Everything else is either ‘solid’ – something with a solid form – ‘flowing’ – something physical but changing – or ‘immaterial’ – something without a physical form. These are often compared to the forms of water: ice, water, and steam.
All of these pronouns are used in the Northern Water Tribe but during the separation caused by the 100 Years War the Southern Water Tribe got rid of the animate 3rd-person pronouns and the 2nd-person formal pronoun. This means that in the Southern Water Tribe all humans and animals are described with the ‘solid’ 3rd-person pronoun. Also, in the Northern Water Tribe they refer to the Avatar using the ‘spirit’ 3rd-person pronoun. In the Southern Water Tribe it’s the same ‘solid’ pronoun as other humans.
There are also pronunciation differences between the Northern Water Tribe and the Southern Water Tribe.
NWT: [Rra -> Ra] [Ves -> Fes] [Kack -> Kak]
SWT: [Min -> Moon] [Ves -> Ve] [Yuk -> Yook] [Miq -> Mik]
So ‘Viq’ would be pronounced ‘Fiq’ in the Northern Water Tribe and ‘Vik’ in the Southern Water Tribe.
Fire-ese
Alright, here is the mother of complicated when it comes to pronouns and probably what most of you wanted this post to be about.
There are no regular pronouns in Mainland Fire-ese. Basically, you are constantly speaking in 3rd-person, using things’ names, descriptions, and positions to get across what you are referring to. You can just use people’s names – “Looks like Zuko underestimated the Avatar” – and this is used by children who find remembering pronouns to be difficult but as a result this is often seen as childish or slow-witted.
In an extremely neutral situation, you can use ‘Yudafaw’ or ‘Yukinghan’ to indict yourself who is speaking and the person you are talking to. However, people tend to like to personalise their speech with either their official title, like Fire Lord, or a defining characteristic such as their age, hair, or personality. It is very common to turn adjectives into pronouns like ‘Brown (hair)’, ‘Chatty’, or ‘Blue (clothes)’. These pronouns don’t usually have a specific gender attached to them unless it’s something like ‘mother’, as in the parent who was pregnant, although even this isn’t necessarily female.
These pronouns indicate closeness and formality. For example, most people would refer to the Avatar as ‘Avatar’ (technically ‘Avator’ in the Mainland Fire-ese accent) but once Zuko joins the Gaang and becomes friends with Aang he would instead use ‘Friend’ or just ‘Aang’ in casual conversation.
There is also a good set of demonstratives to refer to inanimate objects:
Uza – Something close to the speaker: ‘this’
Shur – Something close to the listener: ‘this’
(Thing) Lei – Something close to (something): ‘this’
Lian – Something away from the speaker: ‘that’
Mir – Something away from the listener: ‘that’
(Thing) Ehnoz – Something away from (something): ‘that’
‘-zu’ or ‘-ghan’ can be added to any of these to indicate number.

It’s (Not) Destiny (Part 3)
Title: It’s Not Destiny (Part 3) Pairing: Hikaru/Reader/Yabu Genre: Angst, Soulmate AU  Rating: PG-13
A/N: FINAL PART PREPARE YOUR HEARTS. MAN I ALMOST CRIED AS I FINISHED WRITING IT!! Part One || Part Two
Honestly, you were tired of everything. Your best friend kept avoiding you, and you could not see Yabu without having the need to cry. So what does a depressed girl do, ice cream and chick flicks? Not for you.
“And so, I’ll never have a soulmate for the rest of my life.” You lamented to the bartender, downing the only-god -knows number of shots. “Unless I steal him from my best friend, which isn’t happening.” You let out a loud, drunken sob, crying to the silent bartender.  “There you are!” Hika exclaimed, rushing in.  “Oh, Hika! Come drink with me!” You waved.  “Nope. You’ve had enough.”Hika said, paying the bartender before pulling you out from the quiet bar. Using his spare key, your best friend unlocked the door to your apartment and placed you on the couch, where you slowly dozed off. “Idiot…” Hika sighed, staring at you fondly before leaving.
“Damnit.” You groaned, waking up with a splitting headache. Fragmented memories of the previous night flashed through your head, but you were unable to piece them together.  “I was probably having a pity party, again. I should stop doing this.” You murmured, before feeling nauseous and taking off to the bathroom. A great start to probably one of the worst and best days of school in your life.
“Hey, (y/n).” Nina approached you. You smiled softly, although a little hesitant, since you weren’t sure how to talk to her properly yet. Who are you kidding, it’s your best friend! “What’s up Nina?” You asked.  “Umm… Listen, (y/n). Don’t take this wrongly but…” She took a deep breath. “But…?” You coaxed her.  “IwantyoutotellYabuthathe’syoursoulmate.” she spat out in a string of incoherable words.  “Huh?” you furrowed your brows, extremely confused, “say that again, but slowly.”
“I want you to tell Yabu… That… He’s… your…. uh…. soulmate.” She finished off, heaving hard, looking as if a weight had been lifted off of her shoulders.
It took you some time to process what she had said.  “What?!?! And you’re okay with that?” you exclaimed, much to loudly, bringing some attention to the two of you. Your eyes widened and you ducked down a little, trying to shake of all the eyes staring.  “Honestly…” Nina said, once the students had stopped staring, “no. I’m not.” she admitted, her expression sheepish.  “Then why?” You asked, confusion all over your face.
Nina sighed. “No relationship will work out if something is hidden. If you tell him, at least you can remain friends.”  “Right. Be friends with your soulmate, who, by the way, rejected you and is dating your best friend. Sounds like a plan.” You shot back, sarcasm dripping from your voice.
“Maybe better than dating someone who isn’t your soulmate, while knowing that your soulmate IS DEAD!” She shouted, and the hall turned to us again. Nina looked down, obviously hurt. You grimaced.
“Listen… Nina I’m sorry, I was just overly frustrated, I didn’t mean it.” you apologized.  “No… It’s fine.” She took a deep breath, “I’m sorry for trying to help.” she glared at you and stormed away, leaving you staring after her, regret flooding your face. “Nina! I- damn it.” You groaned, a pit forming in your stomach. Not just from the hangover, but from the guilt.
“(y/n)?” That voice called out to you, saying your name with a beautiful lilt in their voice. With a small sigh, you turned around.  “Yes Yabu, is there something wrong?” you responded, his name spilling through your lips like melted butter. A forced the small blush in your cheeks to disappear.  ‘Gosh… he’s perfect.’ you gushed.  “Have you seen Nina?” the man said, and the fantasy you had created in your head came crashing down. You stiffened up, but nodded.  “She left that way and she’s a little upset… Completely my fault.” You sighed, expression somber. “When you find her tell her that I’m sorry for being an insensitive idiot.”  Yabu nodded, the kindest smile on his face.”Will do.” he said, before walking off towards the direction where you best friend had run off to.
You clutched your chest, feeling your heart beat erratically. The beating slowly morphed to a painful throb as your silently reminded yourself that he was not yours. That you were a loose tie. Alone.  “Happy endings are reserved for kind princesses and princes… Not drunken maids.” you laughed bitterly, dragging yourself to your next class.
But Nina’s words continued to echo in your head. Throughout classes, at home, while studying, in your dreams, and as you woke up for the next day.  “Tell him.” you heard your best friend say in your head. The more you pondered over it, the more her words began to make sense to you.  “So that at least I’ll have no more secrets weighing me down.” you murmured, as the truth of what Nina was really trying to tell you came to life.
“Hey Yabu? Do you have a moment. I’d like you talk to you.” You interrupted the conversation he was having with Nina outside the campus building. Nina smiled as you gave her a knowing look. “I’ll be off then. See you later.” She waved and walked off. Yabu waved back before turning to you. “So, what did you want to tell me?”  The nerves began to take hold of you, and you found yourself tongue tied.  Just do it, you told yourself, taking a deep breath.
“Yabu. I’m going to go straight to the point.” you said. “You’re my soulmate.” Yabu’s lips parted in mild shock.  “Don’t say anything, please. I know, Nina is your soulmate. Please, stay with her and make her happy… I’ll… Try to move on so we can stay friends. Although easier said than done.” You giggled, trying to force down the painful sob that threatened to pour from your eyes and sting your throat. Yabu nodded, kind eyes taking pity on you. “You’re a really good person (y/n)… I know how this probably feels to you and-”  I cut him off. “Remember, don’t say anything.” You smiled, and walked off, silent tears spilling from your eyes. Once you were out of earshot you broke into uncontrollable sobs. You collapsed against the side wall, trembling. Curling up into a ball, you pulled out your cell phone with shaking hands, and did the first thing you thought of doing.
3:34 PM  Hikka-chan I need you Please come
It didn’t take long. You remember his strong, warm hands picking you up gently, carrying you bridal style to his car. You cried into his hoodie, breathing in his scent. You remember he comforted in the safety of his home, warm tea being brewed. He pulled you into a hug just as the timer on the tea brewer went off, and he let you go. It was cold. But he quickly returned, hugging you again, handing you a warm cup of tea. The hug was safe, and you spilled your guts to him, all your emotions.  You remember asking him who would give you love, staring deeply into his warm eyes. He gave you this incomprehensible look and placed his lips on yours. Emotions raced through your head, but you realized that you didn’t hate it, and kissed back, pouring all the pain of the day into that one passionate kiss. A kiss filled with love, and nothing more, nothing less.
Hika’s smile after the two of you parted left you with a lot of questions.  “Are you-?”  “No, you are not my soulmate.” Hika laughed, “or else it would have been impossible for me to stay merely friends with your for eight whole year.” a small smile lit up your face, just like he managed to do every time.  “I’m a loose tie, met my soulmate somewhere random, but she already had found hers.” His eyes saddened, an emotion you’ve become familiar with the past few months.  “But, in the days where I met you, and spent time with you, I realized that soulmates aren’t always your meant-to-be. That the system is flawed.” He grinned.  “How so?” You asked, your voice soft as if asking so was a crime.  “Because… As the years passed i realized, that I had fallen in love with you instead. Someone who isn’t my soulmate.”
Your lips parted, and again the whirlwind of emotions fled through you. But a sensation tugging at your heartstrings left you with an understanding of what your truly wanted.  “(Y/n)… What do you want?” he asked, voice small, yet gentle as he gazed at you endearingly. You wrapped your arms around him, feeling safe once more.
“Teach me how to love… How to move on… How to start anew… How to be with you.” You whispered into his chest. Hika smiled, pulling you away from him, gazing at you with a look that you would never forget.  With two words the boy you would learn to love made you a promise,
“I will.”

I AM SHAMELESSLY REQUESTING THIS WITHOUTASKING ANONYMOUSLY ON, SO LIKE: Could I please please please request sentences "I want to have a baby.” and “You’re the love of my life.” with Hikaru? ; o ;
I hope you enjoy this @hikaruchau!!! Thanks for your lovely prompt!!
Tumblr media
It was a rare morning off for the both of you, and though you were struggling to open your eyes, you still stretched, making small squeaking noises as you bent this way and that, your eyes popping open when you heard the soft laughter from next to you. Hikaru was stretched out there, head propped up on his hand as he smiled at you, his voice soft with sleep and delight, “You’re so cute, like a kitten when you do that…but…I mean…kittens are certainly not cute. That’s not what I mean, not at all…”
You couldn’t help but laugh, leaning over quickly to peck him on the lips to make him be quiet, shaking your head, “I know what you mean, Hikka, calm down!”
“I wouldn’t want you to get the wrong idea and think of bringing one home or something like that, you know?”
“Oh, the horrors, I can’t imagine a wee furry beastie in our home!”
He shoved you lightly, “Don’t make fun of me, I seriously can’t even handle the thought of it.”
“Don’t worry,” you laughed, scootching closer to him, as he lifted his arm to bring you into his embrace, “I won’t ever bring anything smaller than a grown man into this house.”
He hummed softly, “Well, I don’t know about anything.”
You pulled back to look at him curiously, “What? Do you think we should get a dog maybe?”
“No…I wasn’t thinking of a dog persay…not really, no…”
He ducked his head, burying it in your hair, kissing the side of your head lightly and you were confused, because he wasn’t especially playful like he usually was in the mornings. You reached up to run your fingers through his hair, your vision blocked by his shoulder, “Hikka, is something wrong?”
“Hmm?” he pulled you closer and you squeaked as he squeezed you tightly.
“Is…is something wrong?” you repeated the question, trying to pull back but he wouldn’t release you.
“No, everything is perfect,” he hummed softly, “I just love you, isn’t it okay for a man to love his wife and to want to hold her first thing when he wakes up?”
“I guess so,” you mused, “but you usually have other things you’d rather do than hold me.”
“Well,” he laughed, the air blowing your hair around, “I’m not done yet, now am I?”
You hugged him back, pressing your cheek against his shoulder, his voice a whisper in your ear, “I love you.”
“I love you too, baby,” you whispered back, your eyes closing as his hands grazed your back softly.
“I mean….I just…” he pulled back, to look at you, his eyes serious, “I mean I just really do love you.”
You stared at him, your vision bouncing from one eye to the other trying to read him, to understand what was happening, because this just wasn’t him. He was always loving and affectionate, yes, but he wasn’t a morning person, and this was really bizarre behavior for him, “Hikka, what’s going on? What did you do?”
His eyes widened, his expression fixed with a huge grin, “Why in the world does it mean that I must have done something just because I am declaring my undying affection for you?”
“Because…I know you…”
“Pfft…I just want you to know how much I love you, s’all,” he ducked his head, leaning forward to kiss your forehead softly, his lips moving gently against your skin as the words came out as a caress, “You’re the love of my life.”
He pulled you to him, his arms holding you tightly, and you were dumbfounded, “I love you, and feel the same…did somebody die? Did you wreck the car? Did you do something illegal?”
He laughed, his head shaking as he drew back, “I clearly do not tell you these things often enough if the only reason you can think of for me to do so is because of something tragic.”
“Well, I’m just saying, you’re….a man of few words,” you smiled, reaching up to tap his nose, “but I know how you feel without the words.”
“Well, I will make a point to do better,” he smiled, his fingers moving to lift your chin up, his lips touching yours gently.
His kiss was soft like a whisper, and when your hand moved into his hair he groaned, pulling away, “I need to ask you something.”
“Oh, my God…” your eyes widened, “Something really did happen!”
He laughed, shaking his head, “I swear nothing has happened, I just have been thinking okay? Then you said that you wouldn’t bring anything smaller than a grown man home and I mean, it just brings forward all of my thoughts, and I don’t want a dog or really a pet, because…I just…I mean to say…”
You took a deep breath, shifting so that you could pull your arms between the two of you, your hands moving to hold his cheeks, “Hikka, what are you trying to say?”
“I want to have a baby,” he blurted out, then squeezed his eyes shut tightly as if he was afraid to see your response.
You smiled, waiting for him to get over his nervousness, watching him as he slowly opened one eye to peek at you, your voice soft, “Really?”
His eyes opened, and in them you saw such tenderness, such love, certainly in the many years of your marriage you had seen these expressions before, but this time they carried a different tone to them, a kind of reverence, and his voice was filled with conviction when he spoke, “I really do want us to have a baby…it’s all I can think about anymore.”
“How long have you been thinking about this?”
“About six months–ever since our visit to my sister’s house…just…seeing you hold my nephew, and watching you play with the other kids…I just had this vision, you know? Of you, of me, of us…and I just wanted it so badly I could hardly shake the idea from my mind.”
You hummed softly, your thumbs stroking his cheeks, “Why didn’t you tell me you were thinking about this?”
He tilted his head a bit, his brows furrowing, “I just did?”
You laughed, “I mean before, why did you wait so long?”
“Oh! I was worried you might not want to…you know…because of your job and things…I just didn’t want to make you feel like what I wanted was more important than what you wanted. I mean…I know that you’d be the one who would have to make the most changes, and somehow it felt selfish to ask that of you…”
You nodded your head, “I see.”
“I mean, if I could be the one to go through it all, I would, I really would. I’d just about do anything if it meant th–”
You smiled at his sincerity, “Hikka,” you shushed him softly, “I think we should have a baby.”
His eyes grew wide, his mouth dropping open, and you could tell he was trying to formulate the words to be sure he was hearing you correctly.
“I don’t mind the accommodations I would have to make, I look forward to them, I don’t mind taking a break from work, for a year, for ten, whatever happens–I can go back to it when I’m ready–and I’ve been thinking about this too…”
“Really?”
You hummed in response, “I have…about a year now…when the other members started having babies, and I wondered if that might be us eventually–but I knew you’d always said you didn’t want to have children until you could spend time with them–I always thought that meant a while from now…after Johnny’s, after Jump.”
“I just meant…” he smiled then, his eyes softening, “It’s stupid, but I meant when I wasn’t so immature that my own hobbies and interests came before our child…plus, let’s be honest, I knew I’d be jealous having to share you, because I was too much of a kid myself. I was at least self-aware enough to know that it would be wrong to have a baby before we’re ready–before I was ready.”
He leaned forward, pressing his lips gently against your forehead, and then drew back, his eyes unwavering, filled with absolution, “I’m ready now.”
“Right now?” you smiled, sure that he knew what you were asking.
His eyes twinkled, and one of his brows raised, “Yes,” he kissed you gently, his mouth moving slowly across your cheek to your ear, “Right now.”

It’s (Not) Destiny Part. 2
Title: It’s Not Destiny (Part 2)  Pairing: Hikaru/Reader/Yabu  Genre: Angst, Soulmate AU Part One Here!!
Hikaru sighed.  “Okay that’s it. You’ve been sighing for the past few minutes and its getting irritating. Spill the beans or I’ll make you,” You said, slamming down your coffee mug.  The two of you were seated in your house, working on your individual studies, but you couldn’t focus if Hikaru kept sighing once every minute or so.  “What do I need to spill?” Hikaru bolted awake, eye wide as if he’d been caught.  “Hikka we’ve been friends for eight years, I know when you’re hiding something,” You responded, closing your laptop and folding your arms.  “Now spill it.”
He sighed, muttering something about how Yabu would kill him. “Yabu and Nina are loose ties,” Hikaru muttered, refusing to meet your gaze.  You looked confused before your mouth slowly dropped open. “So they were lying about being soulmates?” You half-exclaimed, somewhat agitated about this news.  “Wait who’s the loose tie? Yabu or Nina?” You asked, curiously. “Well... I’m not sure. It’d be best to ask them yourself,” Hikaru sighed, propping his head on his arm as he turned back to his studies.
“Seriously?! Ugh that’s so like you!” You threw your hands up, irritated, and left to get more coffee. Your mind was spinning miles, around and around it went.  You tapped your pen against your paper, you clicked your tongue mindlessly, and you sighed.  :Okay now I get how the sighing can be annoying, but you’re doing it worst than I was,” Hikka groaned, holding your wrist to stop your tapping, “I get that you’re restless right now but try to focus and relax. Overthinking it won’t solve anything,”
He was right you thought. And with that you focused on your studies ad left your thoughts for another day.
“Hey there (y/n)!” Yabu’s voice rang in your ears.  “Do you think we might be soulmates?” His smile flashed in your mind.
You bolted awake, heart pounding. His face disappeared and you groaned, turning over in your bed. Your chest felt tight and everything was miserable. You couldn’t get the facts out of your head. If Yabu and Nina were loose ties, then there was a chance you could have your soulmate!
School flashed by, and you decided that you would hang out with your best friend for the first time in a while.  “(y/n)!” Nina called, running up to you. You grinned, waving back. You were standing in front of the large shopping mall where the two of you were going to hang out for the day.  “You ready for the highest rated romance movie of all time?” Nina grinned as she purchased the tickets. The two of you had decided to watch a movie in the cinema. You had argued over her, because you were in no mood to watch romance, but she won anyway.
“There’s no way it’s the highest rated one of all time.” You scoffed. Nina just grinned, linking her arm with yours.  “You’re just salty. Come on let’s go!” She pulled you towards the cinema. Nina squeezed your arm lightly as the main couple leaned in for their first kiss. The entire audience waited in a bathed breath.  “Scenes like this just makes you think about your soulmate huh?”Someone whispered to their friend behind you.
You stiffened visibly at that, and you noticed Nina’s concerned gaze, so you forced yourself to relax. Slowly she turned back to the screen and you let out a slow breath. You weren’t going to think about soulmates today, you told yourself.
Or so you thought.
“Hey what’s up with you? You seem a little off.” Nina asked worriedly while the two of you sat in your regular coffee shop. You shook your head, giving her a light smile.  “It’s nothing, I guess college has just stressed me out a ton.” You laughed.
She pursed her lips before reaching over the table to flick your forehead.  “Liar. Tell me the truth.” She crossed her arms, giving you her most serious face. You knew she would stop at nothing to get it out of you.
“I found my soulmate.” You whispered. Nina’s face brightened.  “No way! Who was it?” She grinned, excited. You shifted uncomfortably.  “Are you sure you want to know?” You asked, a slight warning tone in your voice. She nodded insistently, although the doubt appeared on her face.    “Yabu. Yabu Kota.” You said, averting your gaze downwards.  Nina’s mouth opened slightly. Her eyes widened in realization.
“Hey! You’re Nina right? Nina Kris?” A boy with kind eyes and fluffy blond hair approached the girl.  “Yes, I am.” Nina nodded, hesitant.  “I’m Yabu Kota, we’re in the same class. I hope we can get along.” He smiled warmly, bowing slightly. Drawn in by his friendly aura and sincere attitude, Nina befriended the boy. It wasn’t long before she was spilling her darkest secrets to him, who listened with attentive ears and an understanding heart.
“My soulmate dies in a car accident three years ago. I guess that makes me a loose tie right?” Nina smiled sadly as the two of them shared a booth in the coffee shop.  “I guess we’re both in the same boat.” Yabu smiled comfortingly, giving her hand a gentle reassuring rub. Nina nodded, blinking back tears.
“Aren’t you two the cutest! You must be soulmates.” A middle-aged waitress gushed as she served the two their drinks.  “No we’re not...” Nina denied, shaking her head. Yabu flinched a little, which didn’t go unnoticed by the sharp-eyed girl.
“Kota? Is there something wrong?” She asked, concerned. Yabu looked down a little before looking into Nina’s eyes with the most serious gaze.  “Nina. You’re my soulmate. But I’m not yours.” He told her, finally saying the truth.  Nina just smiled softly, clasping her hands with his.  “I’m glad.” She smiled.
He looked at her with confusion. “I’ve given it a lot of though,” Nina explained, “and  want to move on. I know it won’t ever be the exact replica, but I want to start anew with someone, and continue to be content with my life instead of dwelling on the past. And if I could start anew with anyone, it could be you.”  Yabu smiled, happier than ever before, and he grasped her cold hands within his warm ones tightly.  “I’ll make you happy.” he declared, and Nina felt true love for the first time in years.
You blinked back tears as you sat alone in the room. You didn’t know what to expect, but what you already knew was made clear. Yabu and Nina were meant to be, soulmates or not.
“I guess that leaves me alone.” You muttered, smiling bitterly.
You’re not alone.  -Hika
Come over, I can sense you’re feeling sad right now -Hika
You laughed a little. Trust your best guy friend to do that.
I’m not feeling it right now, I’ll come over tomorrow. It’s the weekends anyway.
You texted him a small reply, the weight of the sadness slightly leaving your shoulders, and you drifted of to sleep.
“When will she see...”

It’s (Not) Destiny Part One
Title: It’s Not Destiny (Part One)
Pairing: Hikaru/Reader/Yabu
Genre: Angst, Soulmate AU
“Listen to me. ___, listen.” a voice echoed in your ear. You looked up to find the source but there was no one. “___!” they called, but there was nothing. Just you on the rusted swing, in the abandoned park. “Hello?” you cried out into the emptiness.
Hello hello hello. Your voice echoed.
You woke up. It was just a dream, you thought, shaking your head. You could still hear the echo in your head. That person calling your name. They sounded so familiar, but you couldn’t remember why. Your clock told you it was 7:30 AM. Just enough time to make it to your first class of the day.
“Ugh I hate this class.” you groaned while walking out of the classroom. A few acquaintances nodded their heads beside you, but said nothing to you. The class was terrible. Not particularly because of the subject, but more because of the professor.
The professor was unprofessional. He did not know how to teach. He spent the class explaining his teaching methods instead if actually teaching. He would never answer questions in class, claiming the were a waste of time, and that those with questions should see him after class. But after class he dismissed them with a wave, saying that he had to go a prepare for his next class. The worst part was?
He didn’t know that he was doing a bad job. You silently cursed as you dropped your textbooks.
“Need a hand?” Someone bent down to help you. You looked up to see your best friend, Hikaru. “No I just dropped my books on purpose.” you replied, smiling. “Miss Sarcasm strikes again.” he whistled, standing up and walking to your locker, your other books in hand. You groaned as you slammed your locker shut. Hikaru chuckled in amusement.
“Bad class?” he asked, grinning. “Do you even need to ask?” you sighed, exasperated. “I guess not. Come on, it’s lunch time, we don’t want to have our table get taken.” He ushered you away to the cafeteria.
The two of you sat at your regular table, chattering away while spooning mushy food into your mouths. Occasionally girls would ask to sit, wanting to flirt with Hikaru, but you would shoo them away cleverly. And Hikaru would just laugh. That’s when your other best friend arrived. Her class ended a little later than the two of yours did.
“Hey Nina.” you waved as she arrived at the table. “Hey___! This is my boyfriend, Yabu Kota. Hikka you know him already.” she gestured to the man standing beside her with a smile. “No way! You’re dating Nina? How come I never knew this?” he exclaimed, upset. “We tried to keep it low profile until we were sure this was going to work out.” Yabu replied. “Typical Kota.” Hikaru huffed, but made space for him nonetheless.
You froze. That voice… It can’t be.
“___! Move over I need to sit here.” Nina shoved you lightly. “Sorry sorry!” you laughed and moved aside. Your mind was spinning 90 miles per second. You felt sick. “___? You okay?” Hikka waved in your face, bringing you back to attention. “Huh? Oh sorry, I spaced out.” you smiled sheepishly.
The bell rang.
“See you around guys! Nice meeting you Yabu!” you ran off, stomach lurching. Playing the sick card you excused yourself and went home.
Since a kid, the law of Soulmates had been embedded into their minds. Everyone knew what they were. Yet even so, you accessed the official government document on Soulmates. You wanted to be sure.
And surely enough your memory was correct. The document read:
All persons born is tied to a soulmate. Although there are many ways to find your soulmate, the most common way is through your dreams. In your dreams you will be revealed one thing about your soulmate repeatedly. For example: voice, eyes, birthday, initials, handwriting, etc.
There are instances where a person finds their soulmate, but he/she isn’t the soulmate of the other. This is called a loose tie. It is a common issue, and people think that they will only be truly happy with their soulmate. While that seems true, there are too many people with loose ties in the world, therefore many people cannot be ‘truly’ happy. Remember that happiness does not come with the word soulmate. They are unrelated.
You sighed. Am I a loose tie? You thought, lamenting. But you couldn’t be sure. After all, some people date one another even though they are not soulmates.
But one thing you knew for sure. Yabu was your soulmate.
“Hikka.” you said as the two of you sat together in a quaint coffee shop across from campus.
“Hm?” he looked up from his notes to look at you. “I found my soulmate.” you said. “Who?” his eyes widened. You looked nervous. “Yabu.” “No way!” he yelled. A waitress shushed him. “Yes way. Also you seem more upset than I thought you would be.” you murmured. “That’s because I…” He trailed off. “I?” you questioned. “Nevermind.” He shook his head. “But Yabu is dating Nina. Could they perhaps not be soulmates?” “I don’t know.” you groaned, throwing your head back.
Just then the door opened, the bell tinkling lightly. You both looked towards the door to see Nina and Yabu walk in, hand-in-hand. You let out another muffled groan.
Nina waved, before the two of them went to a covert corner of the shop, placing orders to the waitress. Then they huddled close to each other and started talking is low whispers.
“Why don’t we ask? If they’re soulmates.” Hikaru smirked. “Hika, no!” You shook your head. But being a moron, he walked over to them and asked anyway. “Yes!” Nina replied enthusiastically, Yabu nodding beside her.
You felt your heart sink. Just your luck. Hika smiled but as soon as he turned away, a deep frown settled on his face.
“You okay?” he patted you. You just nodded lamely. “Let’s get out of here.” He helped you up and the two of you left the couple and the coffee shop, making your way to his house.
“You never told them about your soulmate?” Yabu asked Nina as her two friends left the shop. Nina just shook her head, her eyes darkening.
“There’s no reason to.”
