Fox cloth cuts like rich butter with tailors' shears and the dense, rich finish makes a superlative flannel suit.
- Simon Cundey, Henry Poole & Co
Legend has it, that when Sir Winston Churchill made his most memorable speeches in Parliament or on the BBC Radio he was clad in a suit cut from the finest West of England flannel, woven by his woollen mill of choice, the iconic Fox Brothers & Co.
Much like Churchill, Fox Brothers is a British institution of near national significance; at one time one of the largest and most prestigious woollen mills in the country, an employer to five thousand tradesmen, occupying a monumental site of several square miles, filled with the imposing red-brick towers and belching chimneys synonymous with good old Victorian industrialism in Wellington, Somerset.
Fox Brothers have been producing woollen and worsted fabric in Somerset since 1772, ie for the past two hundred and fifty years. Officially credited as the original creators of flannel, to this day we combine traditional manufacturing processes with state of the art design technology, to create the finest wool and cashmere cloth available in the world.
The mill's scale of production at its peak was quite frankly biblical; in 1914, with the outbreak of the First World War, the mill received the single largest textile order of the conflict, for 825 miles worth of khaki - a fabric which Fox Brothers can lay claim to having invented in 1901.
Sadly, such days are long behind many British manufacturers but fortunately today, Fox Brothers is experiencing a heart-warming renaissance and has returned to form as one of the finest producers of worsteds and woollen flannels in the United Kingdom.
In 2009, upon hearing that Fox was in dire straits, Douglas Cordeaux and his business partner Deborah Meaden, didn't think twice about running to the rescue and taking over Fox Brothers. Cordeaux was a menswear designer with a long history in luxury menswear and a passion for British heritage brands.
Thirteen years later, their brave decision and extraordinary vision has revitalised the mill and business now growing at a rate of knots - supplying cut lengths to the finest bespoke tailors and clothiers far and wide, and also weaving commercial orders for a huge number of international luxury brands; from Hackett to Aquascutum, Louis Vuitton and just about every single house on Savile Row.
Generations of men - and increasingly women - are grateful that Fox Bros have been the mainstay of their bespoke Savile Row suit or jacket. One of my woollen jackets from Huntsman carried the Fox Bros unshowy and understated label inside.

What was it like having the classic 'child caught parents in bed together' moment? Did you have to explain to Henry what was going on?
Probably the most terrifying thing of my life, honestly. I'm still wrapping my mind around the fact that Mary Margaret and David are my parents and we're the same age... so I doubt I'll ever explain all of that to Henry. That's not how I want to have such a conversation with my kid, thanks.

Listen, I need more fics of Alex in NYU Law.
I need to see him make friends who treat him like a normal person. And as much as they do, his life still calls for the extraordinary lol Like he has notes to his professors asking to be excused ‘cause he has a White House/politics related engagement.
I also need to see Alex doing really well in class. I wanna see his profs being impressed, even the ones who doubted him in the beginning thinking he got in because of who his mother is.
I wanna see him just blend in so well with certain people they sometimes forget he’s actually like.. an icon
Like a classmate would blurt Yeah, and my mother-in-law is the Queen of England” to express how ridiculous something is
And Alex just responds nonchalantly with “Mine will soon be” and continues to just sip on his frappe lol
I need to see Alex stress out over deadlines and exams and recitations like ordinary students. Have study groups. Go to parties. Live as much of an ordinary life as he can even though he’s constantly flanked by body guards lol
Eventually his friends become friends with Cash and they just get used to everything. The extraordinary-ness of their occasionally ordinary friend.
I would also like to think Alex’s NYU friends are protective of Alex. They can sniff out who’s just gonna use him for their gain, who’s being too nosy, etc.
Likewise Alex is an extremely giving friend. He’s more well-off than most of them but he doesn’t like to flaunt that or make them feel uncomfortable with gifts. But he does help when it comes to school, finding resources, helping them find internships. He goes all out for them, too. He also does occasionally buy them expensive gifts during special occasions just because haha
I also wanna see how Henry is able to help Alex unwind during his busiest, craziest days where he basically has coffee as an IV. I bet they’d be the type to parallel do stuff lol. Like Henry would devour a novel while Alex studies, and they would happy just being pressed against each other as they do so.
It would also be funny to see Henry just randomly show up at NYU with the packed lunch (which he definitely did not order from somewhere😅) that Alex forgot to bring when he frantically rushed to get to class on time.
I need to see his classmates shocked at how casually the Prince of England just drops by (even though he has like PPOs)
Maybe there’s a rumor mill in school too, just people talking about the stupid tabloid articles about whether Henry and Alex are hitting a rough patch, they’re going to break up, Alex is a bad influence on Henry, etc. This pisses off Alex’s friends off more because well, at this point Alex is used to it.
And when Henry arrives at school he makes sure to be extra sweet when people are looking.
And since this is law school and everyone’s older, Alex definitely has friends who get married. He brings Henry as his plus one and there are jokes about protecting the cake 😅

me: now it is interesting that emma swan and lorelai gilmore got incredibly similar treatment in their respective fandoms; they were both teen parents, and working-class ones at that, who struggled to make ends meet and made difficult decisions to give their child the best life they could. despite this though, their fandoms can only focus on and exaggerate their shortcomings; in emma's case it was giving henry away and in lorelai's it was being too friendly and immature around rory. still me: by contrast, regina mills and emily gilmore-who are in many ways emma and lorelai's counterparts in regard to motherhood-are hailed as "icons" and also the best mothers on their respective shows despite having significantly more shortcomings than emma and lorelai did. henry is painted as an ungrateful brat despite clear evidence that regina was an unfit if not abusive parent, which in turn demonises emma for "turning" henry against regina. moreover, we see throughout the show that emily is an overbearing and toxic influence on lorelai, criticising every movement she does, and yet lorelai is still called ungrateful. what unites emily and regina is their wealth, as this is used as proof that they gave their children good lives despite their canon actions. still me: in summary, although these are two different shows, their fanbases show the same bias towards upper-class motherhood and a belief that providing for a child's basic needs is somehow a grand gesture, and in turn demonises and belittles the very struggles lorelai and emma had gone through as mothers. take-away delivery guy: ma'am please just take your food.

I'm not a big Star Wars person, but it's implied in Once Upon a Time that Regina Mills is, and I'm pretty confident that her favorite Star Wars character is Anakin Skywalker.
Firstly, the fashion sense. Forget Luke's Chanel boots, Darth Vader had the cuntiest outfits in that whole galaxy, and Regina as a certified fashion icon would appreciate that.
Secondly, the love for his son. I can imagine this hitting different for Regina at different points in time. Before adopting Henry, she'd probably feel a longing for that kind of bond. Maybe she'd even see herself in Luke and she'd wish that her mother had been willing to change for her like Anakin did, or that her father had been strong enough to stand up to her mother like Vader did to Palpatine. After adopting Henry and before the curse broke, I imagine she'd respect Anakin, look up to him even. She'd vow to put her son first like he did, no matter what happened, but she wouldn't yet see herself as needing to change like he did. And finally, years after the curse broke, I think she'd see Anakin as a kindred spirit, and she would feel sad for him that he didn't have more time with Luke. But it would still warm her heart that Luke kept trying to save him.
Thirdly, and perhaps most crucially, the way he had been systematically stripped of his personhood and sought to reaffirm it. I think Regina would regard the prequels as not being very good movies, but she would have a soft spot for them nonetheless. I can imagine the first time she saw The Phantom Menace and baby Anakin, a child slave stripped of freedom and personhood by the society he lived in, telling Padme, "I'm a person, and my name is Anakin." I think that probably made her cry -- to see under the hood of this larger-than-life villain to the trapped child underneath, the child who had never been free, trading one master for another his whole life, who nonetheless asserted his personhood in such a plain, defiant way. I'm sure she'd read and watched all of this Earth's versions of the Snow White fairytale by now, and yet she didn't see herself in any of the various Evil Queens. The fairytale portrayals of her robbed her of her humanity the same way the society she came from did, the same way Cora, Leopold, and Rumple did. But when baby Anakin asserted his own humanity to Padme, she finally saw herself -- not in any fairytale villain but in a child longing to be free, to be acknowledged as human, for that's what she, too, has wanted all along. "I'm a person," baby Anakin would say onscreen, "and my name is Anakin." I'm a person, too, she would think, and my name is Regina.

New OUAT OCs
this is all @the-witching-ash's fault for encouraging me to make a new oc to ship with Graham and now instead I have 10...
Angel Dearly | Anita Dumas in Long Live: Anita Radcliffe in the Enchanted Forest but has not married Roger so keeps her maiden name, Dumas. In Storybrooke she's a waitress at Granny's Diner who dreams of moving away and becoming a fashion designer. Shipped with @the-witching-ash's Roman Taylor | Roger Radcliffe and is Anastasia Dearly | Adelaide Dumas' granddaughter*
Named Angel for its similarities to Anita; Dearly for Anita's last name in the live action movie, and Dumas for Alexandre Dumas the French author/playwright
*this is specifically in Long Live/the crossover, theoretically she has a solo verse shipped with Graham but I only care about the crossover
Tumblr media
Alissa Thorn | Priscilla Page in Dear Reader: Priscilla Page (from the Fables comics) in the Enchanted Forest, in Storybrooke she is the middle child between her sisters, her job is still TBD
Named Alissa as it means Wanderer, and Priscilla's place of power is the open road
Tumblr media
Corrina Mills | Persephone in Rite Of Spring: Regina & Zelena's younger half sister, named after her mother Cora. She is Persephone in the Enchanted Forest and in Storybrooke she's Corrina Mills, Regina's younger sister and the only person who can leave Storybrooke without any issue but she either always finds herself returning without meaning to or she forgets about Storybrooke when she's out of the bubble and forgets about the "real world" when she's in Storybrooke. Her father is Rumplestiltskin, and she is most likely going to be shipped with Graham
Named Corrina both for her mother, Cora, and because it's a variation of Kore, which is another name for Persephone
Tumblr media
Dove Thorn | Robin Page in Dear Reader: The youngest of the Page/Thorn sisters. In the Enchanted Forest she is Robin Page (from the Fables comics), and in Storybrooke she is Dove Thorn, Alissa & Evelyn's younger sister who works somewhere in the Sheriff's Department.
Named Dove as it is a type of bird, like Robin
Tumblr media
Eilwony in Rabbit Heart: Eilwony from the Black Cauldron. She was a captive to Regina in the Enchanted Forest and is still captive through the curse. Because of being in Regina's castle, she was not affected by the curse and has kept all of her memories, but she can't escape or do anything with that knowledge until Henry Mills finds her and helps to rescue her. Daughter of a magic user, but I haven't decided which one yet.
(name does not change as she does not have a Storybrooke version of herself)
Tumblr media
Evelyn Thorn | Hillary Page in Dear Reader: The oldest Thorn sister, she's Hillary Page (from the Fables comics) in the Enchanted Forest. In Storybrooke she's Evelyn Thorn, who "recently" took over her mother's job as the elementary school librarian.
Named Evelyn after the most iconic librarian around, Evelyn O'Connell from The Mummy
Tumblr media
Mirella Gold | Christine Daae in Once Upon A Song: Christine Daae (Phantom Of The Opera) in the Enchanted Forest, Rumplestiltskin takes on the role of her phantom in many ways. In Storybrooke she is Mirella Gold, who works as a personal assistant (tbd to who) but dreams of becoming a songwriter. She is raised by Mr Gold, but I haven't decided yet if she knows that she's adopted or believes that he's her father. Might be shipped with Graham.
Named Mirella after Mirella Freni, considered one of the best opera singers of all time
(in my heart, @the-witching-ash's Adelaide | Anastasia is her music teacher 🥺 )
Tumblr media
Nieva in Eatnamen Vuelie: Nieva is Elsa's daughter, who Elsa does not know exists, and sadly that's all that I know so far!
Named Nieva as it means Snow, her name does not change as she does not have a Storybrooke version of herself
Tumblr media
Paige Thorn | Prose Page in Dear Reader: Prose Page (from the Fables comics) in the Enchanted Forest. In Storybrooke she is Paige Thorn, English teacher turned school librarian who "recently" quit her job to open her own bookstore, leaving her eldest daughter to become the new librarian.
Named Paige as a pun on Prose Page's last name
Tumblr media
Sadie “Sugar” Monroe | Charlotte LaBouff in Sweet Nothing: Charlotte LaBouff in the Enchanted Forest. In Storybrooke she is Sadie Monroe (but everyone calls her Sugar), a pageant princess rich girl with a heart of gold. She is an event planner and organizes plenty of town events and fundraisers, and will be shipped with either Graham or David.
Named Sadie as it is a common Southern girl name and nicknamed Sugar because it is a common nickname in the South (both chosen as a nod to Charlotte LaBouff being a Southern Belle), last name Monroe as Lottie's design was inspired by Marilyn Monroe
Tumblr media
(ps thank you @ginevrastilinski-ocs for the help is naming Nieva and Sugar!)

The Set Design for OUAT was... A Choice
I hate doing this because I know a lot of people work hard to make movies and TV and if anyone's ever worked on set you know it's a miracle TV and movies actually get made but this show had... Such weird sets.
Look at Snow White's loft:
Tumblr media
Not a single comfortable place to sit in sight.
There's a bike no one has ever used hanging from the wall.
Also, and this has been mentioned in fics a lot: both bedrooms were part of the greater space. Like, they weren't divided by anything more than a curtain and... a railing.
What family, of more than 1 couple, would choose to live like that? It makes absolutely no sense. Also, both bathrooms? Frosted glass walls. ALL AROUND. What. the. actual. fuck??
Moving on to Mifflin Street:
Tumblr media
For a show that run for 7 seasons, we really don't see much of the interior of characters' houses. Other than the foyer and Henry's room (in season 1) we don't see any more of the Mills' house. Which is insane. What we do see is sparsely furnished and looks too much like a plantation mansion for comfort. Perhaps it is best that we didn't see more of it?
The Mayor's Office:
Tumblr media
I don't think Regina was originally evil. I think she was normal, then she went to this workplace and it messed up her brain. I think the only thing that could make this set design worse, would be the painting of a bird on the wall. It would make it look like insane.
This is so black and white and ornate it's giving me a headache just looking at it.
I don't think this is fairytale Evil Queen. More like girlboss corporate which, if that's what they were going for with Regina, they missed the mark by a mile.
I'd have definitely gone for deep colors and vintage furniture, like
Tumblr media
This is a place from which Regina Mills governs her town.
Granny's Dinner:
Tumblr media
... is really so grey.
I can bring the characters to mind being in this space, but if I hadn't looked up the image I wouldn't be able to describe what the place looks like. I'm like, it has booths and a bar, but what does either look like, I can't tell you.
Think of places characters frequent in other shows: Luke's Dinner in Gilmore Girls, the iconic cafe in Friends, if you've seen either show I bet you can easily bring the space to mind, right? You would be hard pressed to bring to mind the grey wasteland of an interior from Granny's. Maybe they could have gone for something with even a tiny bit more character?
Tumblr media
Having said that, Storybrooke was so white I'm surprised they ever ate any food so, maybe Granny's was actually an accurate representation of the town's food culture.

Here are my top 5 favorite crime films, all are classics of the genre:
The Godfather (1972). This epic crime film tells the story of the Corleone family, a powerful Mafia in New York City. The Godfather is possibly the greatest movie ever made, not just crime film. Tt won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Marlon Brando. The Godfather is a masterpiece of cinema, with its well-acted, well-directed, and well-written script. It is also a film that is full of complex characters, immersive storytelling, and timeless themes.
“Im going to make him an offer he can’t refuse”
Tumblr media
“ Mmm, this is a tasty burger!”
Tumblr media
"The stuff that dreams are made of"
Tumblr media
. This neo-noir crime thriller directed by David Fincher follows two detectives who are hunting down a serial killer who is killing people based on the seven deadly sins. Se7en is known for its dark and gritty world, and its shocking twist ending. Se7en is a well-crafted mystery with a satisfyingly twist ending. The film follows two detectives, William Somerset (Freeman) and David Mills (Pitt), as they track down a serial killer who is targeting people based on the seven deadly sins. The film keeps the audience guessing until the very end, and the twist ending is truly shocking.
“What’s in the Box?”
Tumblr media
. This biographical crime film tells the story of Henry Hill, a mobster who rises through the ranks of the New York Mafia. Goodfellas is based on the true story of Henry Hill, and it is known for its realistic portrayal of organized crime. Goodfellas is full of memorable scenes, from the iconic Copacabana tracking shot to the violent heist. These scenes are both exciting and suspenseful, and they help to keep the viewer following along throughout the film.
“As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a ganster”
Conclusion: The crime genre is one of the most popular and enduring in cinema. These five films represent the best of the best, with their well-crafted stories, memorable characters, and great visuals. If you're a fan of crime films, or if you're simply looking for a great movie to watch, then I highly recommend checking out any of these films.
I hope this list has inspired you to watch some classic crime films. These films are all well worth your time, and I'm sure you'll enjoy them as much as I do.

Safe Spaces: Lavender House
I just finished Lavender House by Lev AC Rosen. I have thoughts...
Tumblr media
Here there be spoilers!
Move over, Benoit Blanc! It’s been a banner year for queer detectives and while Rian Johnson has given us an icon for the silver screen, Lev AC Rosen has created one for the page in Evander “Andy” Mills, openly gay private eye and narrator of Lavender House. But while the Blanc mysteries are largely the fun kind of lampooning of our privileged and bigoted populations, Lavender House is more somber in tone and more reflective about the place of queer people in the United States.
Set in the 1950s, Lavender House introduces the reader to Andy Mills in the worst period of his life. Mills knows he’s gay, and has struggled through life hiding it first as a soldier and then as a police officer. In an era where gay people’s existences were explicitly criminalized, Mills has spent his career deftly sneaking around in underground gay bars and clubs to avoid detection. But one day, his luck runs out: forcibly outed in a raid, Mills knows life as he once knew it is over and he is officially and forever an outcast. He contemplates ending his life, but before he can he’s offered an unusual job...to find out the truth behind the sudden and mysterious death of the matriarch behind the famous Lamontaine soap empire. Escorted to the private home compound called, affectionately, ‘Lavender House,’ Mills meets an unusual family and must determine if any of them is a murderer.
The twist, naturally, is that every inhabitant of Lavender House is queer (hence the name, for people who know their history: lavender was a color code associated with gay culture). Victim Irene lived romantically with her ‘secretary’ (wife) Pearl. Irene had a son from a first marriage, called Henry, who is legally Married to Margo. However, Henry is truly partnered with his ‘secretary,’ Cliff, and Margo is partnered with her ‘friend,’ the notorious club owner, Elsie. Even the three staff members--two women who are partnered and one man who recognized Andy from the clubs--are also gay. In fact, the reason Mills is hired by Pearl is because he is pointed out to her as having been fired as a cop for being gay. In this private, moneyed estate, all of them can close the gates to shut out the eyes and the threats of the outside world. In Lavender House, they live as they choose. So Andy Mills discovers something in Lavender House he could only have dreamed about: a safe space.
The term ‘safe spaces’ has become a double-edged sword. On the one hand, all people who fall under the rainbow umbrella need and deserve spaces where we can feel free to be ourselves, to meet people like us, and to live feeling like we can breathe. All of us can probably remember having some moment like Andy, looking around at the life and the love he sees shared around him:
“Elsie...dipping her slightly as they kiss. Margo is smiling the whole time. This is like how Cliff leans his head on Henry's shoulder. For them, it's the bickering, the flirting, that brings them closer. It's funny how many ways there are to show you're in love, and yet outside Lavender House, we never get to experience any of them.”
Home is supposed to be the place where we can retreat from the outside forces that condemn us, or silence us. It’s supposed to be a refuge where we can be our most free and honest selves. In that sense, a place like Lavender House probably seems more than a haven...it’s almost like paradise.
On the other hand, isolating ourselves is both limiting because it can create an echo chamber and because it creates boundaries between us and the wider world we deserve to live in. Andy sees some of the consequences firsthand: Cliff never leaves the estate, fearing recriminations from a vengeful bio family, and spends long, lonely hours practically isolated. The bars may be gilded, but Lavender House has become a cage. Even the most powerful member of the surviving family, heir Henry, has a complicated relationship to the self-imposed isolation of Lavender House. But his conclusion is that the pain is worth the protection. “Just because we know what we are, and we know what the world is, doesn't mean we can change anything about either of them...I never felt ashamed of who I was, but I felt a lot angrier outside this place.”
So is a safe space a heaven or a hell? Is a place like Lavender House the solution or does it create yet more problems for the people it’s supposed to protect?
I think these are the wrong questions. I don’t think it’s about where you choose to plant your roots or how. The question is: who are you choosing to plant them with?
In the 1950s, it would have been a mostly foregone conclusion that coming out meant becoming a pariah. So, many chose to bury that part of themselves deep in order to be able to remain part of their homes and their families. But Elsie has a point: “You can’t hide a part of yourself from people and still be their family. And if you share that part...well, most families tell you you’re not family, then anyway...now your real family is going to be the one you make of other people like you.”
Coming out is not a universal social death sentence today. But that doesn’t mean we automatically feel at home in the families or communities we are born into. Now as then, we look for places to find “companionship. Friends. Lovers. Family. We have to make these things for ourselves.”
Every member of the family agrees that Lavender House is worth saving, and that justice in their case must be nontraditional in order to protect the precious life they have created. Because the truth is that the bond between them shapes their world more than a fence ever could. Lavender House isn’t a haven because it’s a mansion exclusively full of queer people. It’s because Lavender House is a giant family of queer people who came together and choose every day to love and protect each other no matter what.
Maybe the reason we still struggle over safe spaces is because, like everything, we forget that no two people are exactly the same. The perfect safe space doesn’t look the same for everyone. While readers leave the Lavender House family strengthened in their renewed love and faith in each other, Andy Mills leaves them to seek a new adventure. Even though Andy is invited to join the Lavender House family, in the end he chooses not to: “I've seen what life can look like, even if the one here isn't the one I want. Maybe, though, they've shown me a door to something better. It might fail. I might fail. But at least I'll do it as myself.” Andy is finally able to recognize that there is a big world out there, full of people living all kinds of different lives despite the odds, and that bonds of love that form a community can be found in all kinds of places. He doesn’t have to settle for a place that isn’t his. He can build one of his own.
Home is more than the walls we live in. Home is in the people we share them with. And if we haven’t found the place we fit in the world yet, then we have to keep living, learning, and laying the foundations for the place where we will.

top five once upon a time christ figure moments <3
OH HOW TO CHOOSE... i will definitely need to update this list once i rewatch the show but off the top of my head(most of these are early on because i haven't watched the later seasons in quite a while):
(SPOILERS AHEAD)
okay the read more thing is getting fucked up so im adding this paragraph in hopes that it will get it to work. tumblr why are you like this
henry getting poisoned from the apple turnover and coming back to life at the end of s1. he goes oh you don't believe? well what if i die and you have to bring me back to life through the power of love and magic. double emma and henry christ figure moment there. also that scene where henry bites the turnover and passes out is SO iconic
just everything with emma's birth. literal baby who everyone is trying to kill and who represents hope and love and is predestined to save the world!!!
neal/baelfire is very jesuscoded to me. gentle nice kid with a scary powerful dad; dies to save emma and henry et cetera. neal and emma are kind of a jesus4jesus power couple if you think about it
snow white!!! special princess who is badass and kind and all the animals love and who everyone is trying to kill. when she eats the poison apple knowing what's going to happen. and then essentially gets resurrected. (bonus: that scene with the huntsman where he spares her life and then later gets martyred for it) sidenote maybe there's some kind of genetic component here actually because snow, emma, henry, and lucy are all some level of jesuscoded. pretty neat of them
henry having the heart of the truest believer!! also his little speech in new york where he tells everyone to believe and make a wish and its like that moment in a covertly religious hallmark movie where the christ figure character gets everyone to believe in the magic of christmas. does that make any sense
anyways i really need to rewatch this show because i know there are so many more that i'm forgetting especially in the later seasons.
(honorable mentions: whatever was going on with lily's whole judas (and/or antichrist??) thing with emma. pinnochio/august booth. lucy mills. everything about the final battle. many more things that i simply don't remember off the top of my head)
