Sometimes it’s soft.
Sometimes the sounds of Hell’s Kitchen drift up gently from the streets, as if floating in through the open window on a light breeze. Little kids laughing over each other while they run around outside on the sidewalks and taxi engines humming in rhythm. Sometimes there’s a tinkering from the kitchen, as Frank hovers over a hot pot on the stove, stirring sauce in his intense concentration that he’s so used to placing on things far more dangerous and deadly. Blood and gunfire and bruises and anger. So much anger that he’s drowning on it and she’s drowning with him.

wip wednesday! tagged by my brainpipe bestie @ninzied ♡
so for context i randomly decided to watch the gilmore girls ep where the town has that basket auction fundraiser thingy and jess and dean try to outbid each other for rory's basket, and then a few days later i stumbled upon this fabulous art by @sun-glasses-at-night, and long story short i have not known peace since 🙃
“That one,” says Crowley.
Aziraphale huffs. “You’re not even looking.”
Crowley, lounging on the sofa, makes a show of rolling his head in Aziraphale’s direction. “Does it matter? They all look the same, angel.”
Across the room, Aziraphale hmphs again under his breath. Half a dozen picnic baskets are laid out on the table in front of him, and he’s no closer to selecting one than he was when he pulled them out of storage nearly a half hour ago. He reaches for the basket closest to him— but no, it’s much too small. He opts for another basket, slightly larger and trimmed in delicate lace.
“That one,” Crowley says again. At least he’s looking, this time.
Aziraphale hefts the basket up and down, swings it by his side. After several seconds of careful consideration, he shakes his head. “Hm, no, this isn’t quite right.”
Crowley groans, scrubbing a hand over his face. “Aziraphale, ages of this world have come and gone since you started this little venture. Just…pick a basket, for someone’s sake.”
“Patience is a virtue, you know,” Aziraphale says pointedly.
“What was wrong with that last one, anyways?” Crowley asks, ignoring him even more pointedly.
“It’s a bit boxy. And much too decorative. Raises expectations.”
“Oh, you mean the expectation that you’ll be providing an actual home-cooked lunch? That expectation?”

“Care for a drink?” Aziraphale asks, mouth suddenly dry, reaching for the bottle before he gets an answer. “I normally don’t go for something this light, but it should pair beautifully with—” His fingers graze Crowley’s as he hands him his glass, and he’s rendered momentarily speechless. “—with the, um…well, all of it, really,” he finishes feebly.
Crowley takes a long gulp, seemingly oblivious to the small crisis he’s caused. He’s sprawled on his side, the lean length of him braced on an elbow. Aziraphale sips his wine and casually rearranges the picnic basket so that it’s between the two of them, a welcome bulwark against thoughts of fingers and hands and what one might be tempted to do with them.
“So, this is eating on the ground,” Crowley says. “Still, not the worst time I’ve had after being propositioned with a basket.” He makes devil horns on the side of his head, tongue waggling, one hand still holding his wine. “The distinct lack of an Antichrist really ties this whole thing together, I think.”
“Indeed,” Aziraphale says, doing his level best not to linger on the word propositioned and all its various implications. “Though I do hope Adam is staying out of trouble, whatever he’s up to now.”
“He’s a kid,” Crowley says. “If he’s not getting into a bit of trouble here and there, he’s doing it wrong.”
“Yes, but there’s a difference between a bit of trouble, and the…the other kind.”
Crowley grins, teeth flashing. “And you’d know all about the other kind, eh, angel?”

winterhawk sleepy cuddles?
When Bucky first agreed to move in with Clint, he wasn’t quite counting on how much noise there was going to be. But by now, he’s used to the running commentary from Clint, the sounds of arrows thunking into a target from the other side of the apartment, the sporadic sputter of the coffee machine turning itself on, the constant hum of the television in the background, the muffled curse when Clint catches his ankle on the corner table for the third time that week.
Still, he’s awfully partial to how things get a little quieter at night, when Clint slips out his aids and flops into bed with him, smiling sleepily at each other while they sign “I love you” back and forth in between drowsy kisses, until Lucky burrows under the blankets with them and they all fall asleep together.
