Look at how Kudo fell once Yoichi died
Since he fell once Yoichi was shredded by the spatial Ability, it implies he was pulling him along really hard to get away. Once the object you're pulling breaks momentum, you usually fall over because of the displaced force, right?
Like when you pull on a rope and it snaps, so you fall over. Add in the sewer water they're wading through, with all the different motions from multiple people passing through and running, Kudo tripped up on both Yoichi's disappearance and on the heavy water
Well, the water is something I want to consider, but most of it goes toward Kudo pulling Yoichi who is. Suddenly Not There. And this makes him fall over from displaced force.
Bruce is tall, and we can see the water is almost as high as his knees. This is tall water, man. The water could've even stabilized Kudo's feet enough he could catch himself, but he still fell; man knew AFO was dangerous, what he did to Yoichi before, and Kudo wanted Yoichi to RUN
When Kudo fell, the only reason he didn't fall over onto his side was because Bruce happened to be there.
Bruce only noticed and turned around because Kudo happened to fall into his leg. That let Kudo at least sit up, and it's hidden by Kudo's body, but Bruce probably grabbed onto Kudo so he could get up
Tumblr media
Look at how Bruce charged up Fa Jin immediately. While Kudo is in shock, Bruce is glaring. The way Bruce stands is different from when he was running earlier
Bruce was absolutely willing to fight AFO here. He realized Kudo fell, and put his foot forward with a charged Fa Jin, literally ready to protect Kudo and fight AFO if needed
(It's in his hand, so I assume that's his main way of using it, because the energy had to have charged beforehand; he had it ready to go. But the fact he charged it at all is what I'm focusing on here)
His foot is ahead of Kudo, he's looming over him to protect him, and his knees are bent to fight and grab onto Kudo; Bruce would've fought AFO for Kudo, even knowing he'd die.
Tumblr media
Their first reactions to realizing the situation?
Kudo tears up. Bruce has a glare and is ready to fight.
They both registered the event differently. Kudo is first in shock, and immediately moved to tears, because the first thing he realizes is [Yoichi just died].
As for Bruce, the first thing he registers isn't that Yoichi is missing (he didn't see what Kudo saw; Kudo literally had Yoichi's blood splatter across his face, and Bruce just turns around after the fact), but [AFO is too close to us. This is dangerous.] and prepares to protect Kudo.
They both reacted accordingly to what they saw first. Kudo in shock, and Bruce ready to fight.
Bruce wasn't going to fight AFO until he realized Kudo was in danger when he fell over. He probably noticed Yoichi was missing and likely dead from all the flying blood, but he focused first on dealing with the situation.
Bruce knew Yoichi just died. But if they weren't careful, they'd be next. Kudo was almost next. Bruce didn't see the moment of Yoichi's death, but Kudo did; and Leader got stuck on that first.
***
***
(Also, cutting this out because it's not good enough to make heads or tails of, but
I think Bruce's glare in the sewers is different from the glare he has later fighting AFO one-on-one and dying. My first assumption was it's because he knows Yoichi just died, and that's like enraging to him in the sewers
Although now I'm noticing Bruce is smiling in the second panel below and am now very curious about that. His eyes are just naturally sharp.

The biggest obstacle when it comes to saving Shigaraki’s heart is Decay: If he so much as grabs someone’s hand… they’ll die. Which is a huge deal in a series that places so much emphasis on the act of a Hero holding a lost child's hand to reassure them that everything will be okay.
Tumblr media
Shigaraki struggles with connecting to people because he’s never been able to perform even the most rudimentary of expressions for actually *connecting with other people* (such as a handshake)… it's a concept which has been shown to us time and time again in MHA. And if you are a subscriber of "AFO having given decay to Tenko" theory... this is probably the main reason as for why he gave him such a treacherous quirk that would never allow him to connect to another person.
No one has even hugged him since his mother died trying to… and she was his only family who cast aside her safety to give the love, comfort and reassurance that 5 year old Tenko needed back then.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I think what's to come for Shigaraki is going to be about connecting with him in the way that’s been (impossible).
My theory is that Izuku could have a moment of reaching out to Shigaraki, just as Sailor Moon reached out with a hand for Sailor Galaxia to take… and in doing so, show Tomura his pure intentions to save him. I think this could be a main feature of the Izuku Midoriya Rising chapter!
Tumblr media
This parallel works *really* well if Shigaraki is possessed by AFO at the time. The MC’s words and selflessness helping their enemy tap into the love which lives deep inside them. In Sailor Moon this dispersed the chaos in Galaxia… and in MHA it may tame AFO’s kosei/personality.
The full theory with videos can be read here!
When 407 came out, a LOT of us thought Izuku’s hand stood NO chance… even I was concerned! But I think this was actually foreshadowing a future chapter where Izuku reaches out to Shigaraki, knowing he’s risking everything to try reach into his humanity.
Tumblr media
There’s also Yoichi’s words: “So why did you reach out to me that day, knowing full well of my ties to your enemy?” …Hori’s been cooking this theme of reaching a hand out to save those in need, no matter who they are. That everyone is a person with a human heart inside them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I think Shigaraki will reach out to grab onto Izuku’s outstretched hand, in a Sailor Moon-inspired moment of Tomura finally embracing the love in his heart… and this will free him of all his life’s built up pain.
One thing MHA teaches well is that pure love and compassion towards others, and the self-sacrifices made to help one’s community are the key to controlling one’s quirk. It’s the best expression of individuality in MHA. Kacchan had full mastery over his quirk by embracing love.
I think it’s enough for Shigaraki that Izuku is even *willing* to be decayed to reach into his humanity and show the compassion his mother once gave him when everything was falling apart around him. Izuku may even remind Shigaraki of Inko’s motherly warmth from the memories.
Tumblr media
So Shigaraki will be able to control his quirk because his heart is cleansed, leaving only pure love inside. And so he won’t let Decay hurt Izuku when he grabs Izuku’s hand. Shigaraki’s soul could be truly saved by physically connecting to Izuku’s immense heart and kindness for others. No matter when or how it’s done, a handhold scene like this would be so beautiful!
MHA’s society may be incredibly broken and wrong… but the one right thing in the world is the connection between everyone’s hearts, all striving for a better future together. Their belief in hope and each other.
At the very end of her fight, Sailor Moon says that chaos "had gone into the hearts of everyone.” Because if everyone shares a little of the burden, it won’t all fall on one person’s shoulders. But, “It’s alright! The light of hope exists in their hearts also.” ✨❤️✨

If you have seen the sneak peek of chapter 360 can you give us your opinion of what you think will happen? I was have read if he gets saved by the Big 3 (not sure if that’s true or just a theory) mainly I just wanted to get your take on the upcoming chapter! I have been following for a while and I love how you talk about each chapter!!
The whole chapter is out, as well as the summary, so if you are willing to spoil yourself, you can find out exactly what happens. I've also already written quite a lot about it - if you check my bnha 360 tag.
Last chapter, when fandom fell into despair, I said that I didn't believe this was the end of Bakugou's involvement in the fight (as the core of his character is never to give up) and that how HK handles what is coming is going to be an indication for me for the rest of the story.
The one thing I was adamantly against is rage!Deku come in, see the desperate state Kacchan is in and use that as emotional catalyst to beat Shigaraki.
Let me explain why I didn't want that:
"I'm sorry I said something so awful"
Tumblr media
We had the Villain Hunt arc which concluded basically by saying that Deku can't do this alone, he needs to accept others, he needs to accept people with less power than him staking their lives out of their own free will to help him and trust that they can handle themselves. If Bakugou here had to be bailed out by Deku specifically, it would have proven right Deku's fears that the others can't keep up with him. You know the exact thing he even apologized for as an awful thing to say, because it also would have proven everyone right who ridiculed and stomped over quirkless Deku's dreams. The entire narrative question of the story about who can be a hero.
2. Wait but isn't it exactly what happened? Bakugou had to be saved...
Bakugou having to be saved by the team is not problematic - because that precisely shows both Bakugou's teamplay philosophy from back in JTA (I'll have your backs and when I'm in trouble you'll save me) and also how hero society has grown and changed since Ch 1 when the heroes stood around waiting for someone with the right power to save Bakugou (or you know nobody helping Tenko), while now they all work together to get him back.
3. "Control your heart"
I don't know if you have noticed, but since the endgame fight started, everyone who had a part in it so far got taunted by the villains, putting them face-to-face with their worst fears, guilts, inadequacies. And raising to the bait gets you beaten. All those words were wielded as weapons - targeting their hearts.
Shouto (whose new power required perfect concentration / meditative state) got told by Touya how he was their father's half-baked little puppet who will never amount to anything and kept being rejected by his brother.
Hawks was taunted for losing his wings / becoming worthless.
Endeavor got taunted by letting his sons fight each other, and when that didn't work, AFO pulled out the Touya's body card (and Endeavor went down when he lost his head).
Jirou and Tokoyami were called weak gnats
You get the pattern...
Which to me meant two things: (1) Bakugou needed to prove that he really faced and conquered his worst fears (that he's weak, not as great as everyone told, that he's the stepping stone for Deku, that he has no chance to become no. 1.) and is able to stand up mentally in face of those fears and continue to give his best (2) if everyone else needs to control their hearts and fears, Deku shouldn't (again) win by rage.
So the new chapter's direction feels really good to me, because Bakugou after that soul-crushing, brutal and absolutely humiliating beatdown is controlling his heart. He's focused, he hasn't lost his faith that a path to victory can be found, he hasn't lost his will to fight. A power-gap is not the end of the road, it means having to find other ways (like early Deku who could only keep up by quirk analysis, teamwork and creativity). We see Bakugou vulnerable and hurt - but he hasn't given up. How could he? That's who he is. That's his image of All Might - the one who never gives up, no matter how hard.
4. "But with his broken arms"
So this was one of the biggest problems last chapter - how can Bakugou keep fighting and contributing (even if he won't give up) when one of his arms are broken, essentially depriving him of half his quirk.
My response to this was that Deku was allowed to fight in such situation (most famously in the Muscular fight - where both his arms were broken, his 100% OFA hits shrugged off, yet he managed to keep on with his broken arms and somehow surpass his max).
So for Bakugou, there were 3 possible paths: (1) same as Muscular!Deku - getting to keep on fighting with a broken body (2) a quirk awakening removing the limitation of his quirk (3) finding an entirely different path to victory (such as a fight inside the vestige realm or a team strategy).
I feel like the way implied in the end of the chapter is a mix of everything. BJ will stitch up Bakugou's arm. He seems to have a quirk awakening that would allow him produce explosions from other body parts than just his palms, opening up more options for him. And he seems to have spotted a weakness to exploit in Shigaraki. And as far as I'm concerned - that's a good way to go - playing into all of Bakugou's arc.
5. "It doesn't matter, he can't win against Shigaraki. He's Deku's villain"
Again, to me this is not an issue. Bakugou can get a win / make a difference while simultaneously Deku can still have a lot left to done.
I don't know if you noticed, but none of the villains are done. Toga has the Twice clones up her sleeve, Dabi's chest is glowing, AFO is rewinding. I'm sure even if they beat ShigAFO, a new boss-form will come. And Deku's role in any case is about saving Shigaraki (giving rise to a possible conflict between Bakugou and Deku or alternatively, to showcase their relationship where Bakugou, the one who almost died at Shigaraki's hands will be the one to back Deku up, displaying his trust in Deku's way) so he can help them destroy AFO.
So I'm very optimistic with how this chapter played out. It's reinforcing the themes I want to see and it gives Bakugou to stand on his own feet to complete his own arc (that's the stage we are at). The resolution of the important bonds will come after - and I'm sure it will come. Bakugou and Deku will talk, will fight, will support and save each other. I'm sure of it. But this would have been the wrong time.

There was a little mix-up with buttons and @arcane-jax sent me a message instead of an ask, asking my thoughts on the "Hawks is responsible for the jailbreak" take, and I realized it hadn't seen talked through yet from what I've seen (in the Hawks tags at least, I don't feel like venturing into the meta tags).
Obviously, my answer was, "It's ridiculous to hold Hawks responsible for the jailbreak, and this is why:"
1. Hawks has no idea about AFO and OFA.
A key piece of this jailbreak is the connection between Tomura and AFO. He'd been working on this jailbreak presumably as soon as he was locked up after Kamino, so all the prep that had gone into it deep within Tartarus was information Hawks would never had been privy to.
What's more, Shigaraki had no knowledge that AFO had plans to steal his body and effectively use him as a puppet for his own means. He's been fighting his mentor ever since he attempted to suppress Shigaraki's will after waking up. The link between them with AFO is what he had been waiting on, and Hawks had no way to know that in advance, especially being so deep into the MLA ranks but frustratingly far away from the LOV inner circle for so long.
2. Hawk's main mission objective would have likely prevented the jailbreak.
Remember, the main objective of the whole mission was to round up and take in the LOV/MLA before they could get their plan off the ground while the heroes stood a chance for as little bloodshed as possible. Deku tells us that Shigaraki was literally dead when Mirko smashed his incubator and Shigaraki basically willed himself back to life with the sheer force of hatred alone.
Going back to point 1, if the mission had succeeded, AFO wouldn't have had the aid of Tomura and his powers from the outside to initiate his escape.
3. In a series where there's a literal battle of wills at the center of the plot, there's a chance AFO would have escaped anyway.
Hawks made no fumbles that directly or even indirectly caused Shigaraki to wake up or escape. In fact, he did everything possible to keep it from happening - even being responsible for the key piece of intel regarding the hospital where he was being kept.
It's an established piece of lore in this series that anyone with a strong enough will and commitment to see it through has the power to change fate itself. Deku did with his fight with Overhaul, Twice resisted subjugation far past what would normally stop a human, and Shigaraki literally willed himself back from the dead. AFO has been dodging death for centuries and defying the odds for lifetimes and with multiple nemeses opposing him for generations - it's safe to say he has a will that's possibly unparalleled in the series.
If anything, Hawks gets credit for seeing that the jailbreak wasn't worse. As of writing this, chapter 298 hasn't been released officially yet; but through the grapevine it sounds like just the contribution Hawks' made by neutralizing the threat Twice posed has saved thousands, if not millions, of lives that otherwise have been lost (not even counting how invaluable his months of undercover recon work proved to be if he hadn't been keeping tabs on the LoV and their movements).
There is nothing to support that somehow the jailbreak or Shigaraki's escape was either Hawks' fault or is narrative punishment for what he did to Twice. Everything points to it simply being outside his control or that his efforts drastically minimized the outcome of the raid to a sizeable disaster as opposed to the swift and total societal upheaval and collapse.
