Wondrous Tails Prompt #3: Getting Pregnant

Pairing: G’raha TiaxAngelique (WoL) Verse: Awakening AU (Eorzea at peace) SFW Prompt: Getting Pregnant Word Count: 2420

G’raha Tia was pacing outside the infirmary of the Rising Stones ever since he had arrived here in his rush, biting down on his thumb nail. The day had started out average enough, he had gone to Gridania for conjury training. He had been working in spells and magic as of late and he normally had the help of Y’shtola, but today he had gone alone because the Scions were going through some meetings here. However, what had caused his rush to leave behind his training robes and scramble to the nearest aetheryte to teleport back to Mor Dohna, had been the panicked voice of Alphinaud telling him that Angelique had passed out during one of their more casual meetings, while he had assured that she wasn’t feverish the pit of his stomach was telling him there could have been more underlying problems.

Ever since he had woken up, G’raha and Angelique had been inseparable, joined with the Scions, fighting back the Empire until...there was a war that was done. There was no danger, except a primal summoning...perhaps two. But in the end Eorzea had come to a time of peace and stability. Ah, he remembered how he had pulled out the ring right there on the spot, despite all parties being dirtied, bloodied, and tattered with allies all around he had taken an opportune time to propose. They seemed to just work together, even as her head rest on his shoulder while pointing out sketches in a book while they were on a pilgrimage for the ceremony to get the Twelve’s blessing. Everything had been perfect.

Everything had been normal.

However, the problem with their racial differences would soon rear up and expose certain underlying issues. Angelique was a Hyur, and G’raha Tia was a Miqo’te even when he defected from the G tribe Gods knew how long ago. And when it came to siring children, that was...difficult. It wasn’t often that two races lay together, but the seed more often than not did not lay to be sown. Even if the child were to be born a half-blood, there was always ample chance for them to be looked down upon, often because they weren’t pure and they carried minor defects from the mix; much like Hilda’s Hyur-like face and her much shortened Elezen ears. G’raha knew by experience that any defect was bad by nature, especially when it came to Miqo’te tribes and their purity. He just...didn’t want the same experience to happen if they did happen to sire a child together.

Angelique had often been fine, not really perturbed by the thought of not being able to have her own children. She knew that they were too different to have much of a chance. However, that didn’t stop her from gazing so longingly to mothers taking children by the hand through the markets...all that happy chatter that she would probably never get to experience. Sometimes G’raha would watch as slowly the usually confident bard would sink into herself, filled with longing and sadness, an ache that couldn’t be easily remedied. When they would get home he would often gather her into his arms, hug her as tight as she could, his heart practically breaking when he heard the weakest of sobs. As the sobs would pass, they spent an evening in passion, being together as one and often it worked, by the new morning she was fit as the strings of the harp she often carried.

However, during the last moon and days more, things had started to hit a strain. Angelique would start getting bouts of illness for at least a bell or two, and her emotional state had often started to act in odd motions, perfectly fine then it would dive into sorrow. G’raha wasn’t sure why he was getting so frustrated at the time, he loved her, truly, but this was something he always tried to fix that seemed to not want to be fixed. One morning she had unexpectedly lashed out at him, something having triggered her frustration, but perhaps it had been his fault...he had spoken callously by telling her she shouldn’t worry so much about the sensitive topic. Even after making up, things started to feel...unlike what had been felt; a hug, a kiss, hellos, seemed a bit hollowed as if she was holding back. Just this morning as she slept, G’raha had just got up and left for his lessons in Gridania...and Gods did he really regret not speaking about it. If only he didn’t feel as if they were forced to walk on eggshells the last few nights, he should have said something, ANYTHING. Tell her that he still loved her, that he was sorry…

“G’raha, it will do you no good pacing a mote into the floor like that.” Alisaie spoke as she walked over, resting her hand on her hip. The twins have blossomed into maturity, but gone was her braid and the flare for red still remained in her dress, blade strapped to her waist. Beside her was Alphinaud who kept the signature braid himself, but it had grown longer, and he was dressed in similar attire like he had worn in the First (so G’raha had been told, his memory was still fuzzy on details), despite his earlier panicked connotations, he had long since calmed.

“Krile and Y’shtola are doing their best to examine Angelique to figure out what possibly could have caused the collapse.”

“Certainly not some kind of summoning from yet another version of yourself. We would have all felt it.” Alisaie remarked meant to be in jest, but it was little comfort.

“But...what if she’s truly sick?” G’raha muttered looking a bit angered with himself, fists starting to clench a little at his side to keep his composure. “She had been getting ill the last few days, typically a bell or two, but...what if I wasn’t seeing the signs of something dangerous?”

“Alright, that’s enough from you. Until they are done with their examination, you are sitting your arse down and relaxing before Tataru worries herself about the possible ditch you were about to make.” Reaching up Alisaie would take the miqo’te by the shoulders and steer him to a set of tables and none too gently push him down into the seat with a quiet ‘oof” from the slightly resisting party. G’raha’s tail flicked with agitation and he glared right to Alisaie who simply shrugged and sat across from him while her brother had gone to collect some tea to bring back before he would join them.

The tea did help, G’raha was somewhat more receptive and relaxed, though the back of his mind still spun wheels of possibility. He had been just about to reply to Alphinaud about a book of recommendation that was brought up as the door to the infirmary opened and Y’shtola would come out, followed behind by a very thoughtful looking Krile. As the three stood up, it was the russet haired Miqo’te who was asking first, “Is everything alright?” he asked, hopeful to keep the slight trembling note in the back of his throat. Y’shtola glanced down to Krile, who nodded a little bit as an okay to go on.

“Our initial thought was that she had collapsed from stress, which could be the case because from what she has spoken of, she has been keeping a lot of emotions locked away. Perhaps some marital trouble?” Though her eyes were hazed over with silver they would look to G’raha as he absently shifted in place on the floor, a soft swish of his ears showing that he did feel a little guilty for the rift. “But of course something like that was probably two-sided, so that can be easily remedied. However, Krile would like to speak to G’raha alone.” Y’shtola added and looked to the twins, who knew when it was time for a private conversation and by her lead would follow her into the main office perhaps to finish a topic of discussion that left Krile and G’raha Tia alone.

“So, Raha, have things been going well at home?” Krile asked when they were alone enough to talk more privately. “Has anything changed recently in your routine that may have caused such a problem?”

G’raha was silent for a few moments then he sighed, shrugging a little bit, “It’s hard to really explain. We were fine until she started to get these thoughts in her head after a while, she spoke of how she wasn’t fulfilling some kind of instinct to carry on a family line. Often this was remedied after some consoling, we even discussed matters of bringing in a child who could have been displaced by war. That seemed to pacify Angelique for a while, but under circumstances when we’re in public or the community, it sometimes comes back even though she has told me countless times that she was fine with not being able to have children related by blood.” He glanced down at the floor a little and his ears flattened to his head a little. “We had a fight recently, I thought she was depressed and at the time I was strained, exhausted because it felt as if everything that had been done had been tried and there was nothing to be done. I spoke callously...and she returned with a frustrated tongue lashing of her own.” He swallowed a lump in his throat. There had been more words shared out of anger and exhaustion, letting slip that he was starting to think this whole bonding ceremony had been a bad idea. Gods, he remembered the sudden quiet as those words rang in their ears, and any fires were extinguished. He had never thought he would see her with such a stricken expression before.

“I hurt her Krile...I know I did…” he muttered, “And after that we...made up, but things felt...strange. Angelique seemed normal, yet distant even though we were moved on from that day…”

Krile was thinking over his explanation, it would seem that the husband and wife were of one mind in the situation. From Angelique she was starting to feel some sort of lack of self-fulfillment to carry on the legacy knowing full well it was rare. She and G’raha seemed to be having some type of emotional strain and struggle, that turned into a shouting match. Though at the term, “made up” it got her gears turning. “Well I think this “normal and distant” could be easily explained as she didn’t want to try and burden you with her emotional swings. It was starting to become obvious that you were struggling with how to handle them, so it seemed Angelique resorted to her old tactic of shoving them away. Which caused her to stress. But...that wasn’t the only reason for her collapse.” The Lalafell paused for a moment then looked up at the Miqo’te, “Tell me, do you know how long ago; taking away the moment in time where you made up after your fight, that you were last in bed more intimately?”

The question shocked G’raha, but despite his silence he would think back on it making him a little red in the face, “I think...it was well over a moon ago, plus a good handful of days more.”

“Then, I dare say we have a reason more to her collapse. Stress for one thing, but for another…” Krile was beaming with a shimmering sparkle as she told the Miqo’te of the diagnosis that she and Y’shtola were positive of.

The door to the infirmary suddenly swung open, startling Angelique who had been in the middle of pulling on her boots, having recovered from her fainting spell. The hyur looked up in shock when she saw G’raha standing there, his chest heaving as if he had run for malms. “Raha...I…” she swallowed, not sure if he was aware of what was going on with her, but just as the apology was forming, he was before her and without words hugged her tightly to his chest. His heart was beating heavily against his chest, she could hear and feel it to her ear.

“You had me so worried…” he muttered softly before kneeling down to her level and bunted the side of her head with his own. “...I’m so sorry my beloved.” G’raha sighed softly, “I made you feel like you could not tell me how you were feeling...and that caused you to hurt and stress internally.” His lips pressed the side of her head, inhaling the sweet scent of oranges that came from her soap that she was often the kind to use.

“I-It’s fine, Raha, really. I was being...unbearable…”

“You were no such thing, and I will hear nothing of the sort again.” His retort came quickly, he was practically breathless now as he would soon be at level with her knees. Slowly his palm pressed to the top of one, thumb rubbing a small circle in a soothing motion. “From here on, no matter what, we can’t have you stifling your need for emotional release. Not when it stresses you like this. There is...so much more at stake now…” HIs ears caught the sound of the sharp inhale of breath coming from Angelique and he looked into her eyes and gave a small smile.

“Krile told you…” she murmured.

“She did...and honestly after the initial shock...I couldn’t be happier…” he replied softly sliding a hand away from its perch on the knee, and slowly would press a palm to the expanse of her still flat midsection. “Never before in my wildest dreams that I, as a Tia for that matter, would ever get to experience such an opportunity…” his eyes started to water, feeling that overwhelming happiness as it all came to him. They were given a gift, graced by the Twelve for certain. A gift and opportunity that was only given to the Nunh of any tribe. “Not only was I blessed with the most beautiful wife, my Inspiration, my Warrior of Light, but now...now…” his voice faltered a little, breathing hitched slightly as she placed a hand over his, their rings glistening in the fading light outside the window.

Words failed as tears fell slowly to the floor, but it wasn’t sadness...this was joy in its purest form. They were blessed with a family of their own.

Tech makes the port of Calais “smarter” (Le Monde) The customs border between the UK and the EU is back, with new rules and regulations, an influx of hastily trained agents, and a technology overhaul in the port of Calais in northern France. Dozens of trucks are stuck in an immense car park after they arrived from Dover, UK. In a cold and wet wind, they are waiting near the ferry landing for authorization to get back on the road—clearance they can only obtain once the operator whose goods they are transporting provides customs with all the necessary documents. To avoid having all these trucks at a standstill—and be overwhelmed with a colossal amount of paperwork and endless traffic jams—French customs have devised what is called a smart border. The system is based on software that generates a barcode for each shipment, after the expeditors have filled a declaration form. This code, which is linked to the truck’s license plate, is an identity card for the vehicles, allowing them to avoid customs formalities. The software analyzes the plates inside the ferry. I've done the pass plus thing which in my opinion and everyone else's opinion a waste of time as it doesn't really save you that much off car insurance. Car insurance for me and my friends are through the roof, the only way to get lower car insurance is to get ourselves named as a named driver through our parents as they've got many years worth of no claims bonuses. Or to even change the address of where we live, such as a family or friends place, which is away from London and off the public roads. car insurance is a cheaper that way, as well as if you pay it annually instead of in monthly instalments. Car Insurance - Young Driver 18 years old Male - NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!?

I have recently passed my driving test (3 days ago!) and will be buying a car ASAP as I have a job lined up and have just left school. I've tried tens of comparison sites and even rang some insurance companies direct to try and get a better quote... I have looked at the smallest possible engine size, that being 0.8l and 1l engines. I've looked at cars such as FORD KA, Vauxhall Corsa, Nissan Micra, Renault Clio and a few others too. The cheapest quote I have found for all of the cars is for a 2000 Ford KA 1.3l 3dr 4 seats (the smallest KA engine size possible) and that price was 3,800 paying monthly with a company called My Policy . However, I have used various other KA registration plates all the same engine size but some being 2003 models or 2005 and the insurance jumps to over 6,000! I haven't found another FORD KA cheaper than 5,500 and obviously if I can't get that one particular car out of the thousands for sale that insurance quote will be invalid anyway. Basically, I've tried everything. Adding named drivers (with lots of driving experience 30+ years), putting my car in a locked garage, on the road, tried different cars - models, registration plates, ages, engine sizes, and not to forget the countless comparison sites. The funny thing is with MyPolicy I went onto their site directly to get a quote and they were unable to give me a quote when entering exactly the same information into the Tiger.co.uk comparison site, that site brought up the 3,800 quote with MyPolicy but when I use their site directly they can't give me a quote... I know insurance is based on MANY factors, believe me I understand that. I tried entering different post codes (just out of curiosity) and it did help, but only fractionally. It just seems (other than the 1 obscure quote of 3,800 on ONE car, out of the 100+ I've tried) that I can't get a quote cheaper than 5,000 for a car with the smallest engine size and insurance group possible... I was sent an approval letter in the mail from the Nashville Unemployment Claims Center. They had already called my last employer and confirmed that I was let go due to lack of work. I have been trying to contact them via the phone for the past week and a half during different times throughout the day in order to establish a PIN. Every time I do, I get the same message of due to extremely high call volume, we cannot take your call at this time. Several friends suggested going to the local career center and ask about it there. The local career center told me that they now have extremely limited access to unemployment claims and to contact the Nashville claims center. I sent them an email as a last ditch effort to contact them a few days ago and have yet to receive a reply. Any suggestions?""
