oh my god. someone should make a fic about martyn littlewood being switched with martyn blackwood at core moments in both of their stories.

imagine, the final battle of dogwarts and suddenly, beside him is not his right hand man, it is a big british man with fog rolling off of him, knife at the ready and he says, "Where's Jon?"

meanwhile, Jonathan Sims looks horrified at where Martin once stood, now replaced by a blonde man with a red coat and fire in his eyes. Sword at the ready, he says, "Where's Ren?"

I saw that in your anon you said you have thoughts about why you think Grian doesn’t fit the eye. I completely agree, I think most people are attributing him to the eye because of the watcher! Headcannons they have from the Evo days. I find that so interesting since isn’t the point of most watcher fics is that Grian doesn’t want to be/doesn’t fit as a watcher? It’s almost like defeating the point of that.

Anyways this is just a long winded way of asking why you think the eye doesn’t fit? -V

thank you for the ask! i am going to preface this by saying there might be some Light Shade when it comes to fanon and fanon characterizations. that being said, people are entitled to interpret canon however they want and i'm just a fool on the internet who has her own opinions.

most of what we consider "watcher lore" is majority fanon; the watchers are never stated to be outright malicious and yet we characterize the watchers as purely evil beings... hm. this is used for griangst which wouldn't be a problem if the watchers weren't very ooc and people didn't push watcher!grian onto everything. this kinda thing becomes annoying as hell when it's affecting how people interpret canon characterizations (think familial sbi type beat).

now before we get to the next part i'm going to explain what the eye is as a fear. it is the fear of being watched, of your secrets being known. but it also manifests as the need to know, to learn, even if it destroys you. notice how interference isn't mentioned? because they watch, they do not interfere.

mkay lets get to the actual tma part of this. because of the name "watchers" and their role as the audience your immediate reaction is to go "oh! they must be eye aligned then!" but really the case is that audience stand-ins are hardly ever eye aligned. i said once "i dont think ive ever consumed a piece of media where the audience stand-in has been strictly the eye. maybe the muppets." i've also said "if anything. audience stand-ins tend to be desolation imo. like. we LOVE causing chaos."

i believe that the watchers are more extinction aligned. if you want a more in-depth explanation of the watchers as a extension of the extinction my siblings, solar arc, made this wonderful post! [link]

before we get to why i think grian doesn't fit with the eye and does with the desolation i'm going to explain the desolation! the desolation is the fear of mindless destruction, of pain and loss. jude perry (an avatar of the desolation) describes it as "the light with the comfort of fire stripped from it, leaving nothing but the terror of its approach." my friend @rocnix says, "the fear of a change for the worse, but you don't see it's a change for the worse because it's destroying you and you're enjoying the destruction too much to notice it's yourself being destroyed" that's a bit paraphrased but it was on a vc and i can't remember their exact words.

okay now to the actual grian part (finally)! you're right when you say that fanon grian almost never wants to stay as a watcher! he's always in the middle of it all, spurring conflict on. that is not what avatars of the eye do. avatars of the eye watch and record what they see, they hardly ever interfere. (i do not count s5 of the eye, i feel like it is ooc for the rules established in earlier seasons for the eye. you can also ask me about this if you want.)

it makes much more sense for grian to be an avatar of the desolation, it fits with his canon characterization. he was there in the civil war, the s7 elections, the turf war, the shopping shenanigans of s8, even the diamond tower conflict from our current season! he does not watch, it's no fun to just watch!

this is super long winded my apologies, i really love this kind of analysis of fandom and then... fixing it LMAO. again i'd like to mention, absolutely no hate to people who enjoy watcher/eye!grian. i've been known to enjoy a good eye!grian from time to time :) <3

I like to think Martin has a big extended family that live in a different country, I headcanon him as mixed polish and something else (maybe desi? Maybe white? Either way I love it)

I'm such a lonely person in a huge extended family x lonely person in tiny family shipper and I think that applies to jmart

Jon was absolutely a gifted kid I think

I think both Jon and Martin were let down by the education system in different ways, Martin because of his family circumstances and Jon because of his undiagnosed autism and gifted kid syndrome

I think Jon forgets to vote sometimes

Martin has worn the same outfit every single day to work before and felt weirdly soothed when Jon picked him up on it

Tim likes to tease Sasha by saying he doesn't believe in the moon

Jon is extremely gullible and will listen to pretty much anything you say if you say it in a certain way

(it's partly the autism and partly the fact that he's too exhausted to look any deeper into what people are saying to him)

(it's led to many shenanigans)

Martin has killed every plant he's ever owned

Sasha's favourite ice cream is double chocolate

Jon has always had imposter syndrome when it comes to his heritage and finds it hard to properly fit in but this cracks after he finds jurgen leitner and he just goes "...this is what happens when you work for an old white man...fucking white people"

Jon had read fanfic before

Martin has written fanfic before

The person Jon takes after most in terms of personality is his grandad

Basira is Bangladeshi and one time she just goes "ooff-o-re" and Jon immediately looks up and nods at her

!!Also quick disclaimer it’s been a hot minute since I’ve been into wh so some things might be incorrect!!

First off idk if this is just wh but with the entities of if it’s entirely tma’s world. It’s probably going to be the first tho

Also all the demons are human(or at least used to be)

Also for non tma meowtuals here is a chart of the entities and here is a video essays for them(it’s unfinished, there’s still two entities to cover) i also linked the wiki pages for the entities mentioned, if anyone is interested (I’d recommend listening to the actual thing but if you don’t wanna watch 200 episodes to understand this, here you go)

- Vast!claire was actually the second to last one I came up with. If Wilardo’s still immortal/ 500 years old she realizes that in a few hundred years no one will remember her and that she doesn’t matter in the big picture. And while initially it scares her later she instead finds comfort in it. She becomes a lot like Simon. Becoming a very “live in the moment” kind of person. “I don’t matter in the long run why not have some fun”. I can also she her having fun with the falling thing. There’s a hc I remember seeing for the vast avatars (specifically Simon) where their eyes changed depending on the sky. Claire already has blue eyes, just add clouds or stars!!

- Spiral!Ashe because they have a lot if similar themes. Spiraling mental health, hallucinations, fake friends, manipulation. I can see him trying to bring his family back and accidentally sacrificing himself to it instead. Also it’s avatars are typically very tall and thin(and colorful). I also like the idea of Ashe being a surreally tall, thin and colorful hallucinatory headache. The spiral has a fake place called “Sannikov Land” and I can imagine him saying he’s from there

- End/Hunt!Wilardo. Idk witch one to pick so I’ll explore both. The end is mainly if he’s still immortal. If he is, he finds comfort in it and that the end will take all eventually. It might be centuries but it will take him and he will finally get to rest. I also rlly like him with the ends powers. Like the dreams of peoples deaths, THE ROOTS (That show how people DIE!!!)

For the hunt, it’s mainly if gramps is alive (and their both mortal) mainly because I’m assigning them to Julia and Trevor. At some point them meet probably dealing with the end or another entity and end up sticking with each other in a similar was Julia and Trevor did (idk how they met I just assume that’s what happened), and both of them end up becoming part of the hunt

- Eye!Sirius, idk how he got marked but I assume maybe messing with Dorothy’s stuff or a leitner. I think the wanting to know, see and understand thing fits with Sirius very well. I can see him using it to call bs on some stuff Ashe says. Like going back to “Sannikov Land”, Ashe says he’s from there and Sirius is like “no your not. That’s not a real place.”

- Flesh!Noel is the last and most difficult one I came up with. It’s also a bit weak but it fits the best. Originally I chose it because of the flesh monster he becomes. But the rest of it kinda fits as well. The flesh is strongly associated with dysphoria, and even if you don’t hc him as trans that would still be a lot of dysphoria he would of had as a kid. I also rlly like Noel having a more animalistic fear. He became an avatar when he was cursed in cannon

- Slaughter!Charlotte. It seems a bit easy giving the war criminal the war and (sudden) violence one but anyway. She’s probably still (mostly) human. just a bit more (openly) violent, and quick to do so. The slaughter is also strongly associated with music, specifically air(?) instruments so I like to picture her walking onto a battlefield (especially no man’s land) in an actual war/military uniform playing the flute or something.

- Stranger!Zizel. This one was kinda a bias because the stranger’s my favorite(and I love Zizel) but I also LOVE uncanny valley doll Zizel. Idk if she was ever human because the stranger seems to prefer manifestations over human avatars. And either would work so idk. I feel like it adds to the lack of identity tbh. But anyways uncanny valley doll Zizel <3<3

- Desolation!Lime. This one was probably one of, it not the easiest to assign. From the fire themes, to the destruction of others and their lives. I can see her with a similar role to Jude Perry. She encounters the cult of the lightless flame sometime in her 20s (specifically 25 because that’s when she becomes a demon in cannon) and falling in love with their beliefs. I can see Lime following Jude’s story in general. She joins the lightless flame in the 80s/90s and after becoming an avatar she becomes made of wax. I like to imagine her and Sirius as that one scene where Jude and Jon meet. They make a deal where Lime would tell Sirius (pre eye) something important but they have to shake hands, lime, made of wax, burns his hand.

I can also see Matty being part of the lightless flame. Like the burning down Ashes house and destroying his life is something they would do

- Web!Rouge. I feel like control theming fits well with Rouge. If anyone were to create structured plans on how things could go I feel like I would be her. The web also has stong themes of addiction, puppets, and that your actions aren’t rlly yours, which I can see fitting. I also rlly like a spider like Rouge. Like her with multiple spider like eyes and arms. The web is also called “the mother of puppets” which I can see fitting her. I also sometimes see people draw her with a web on her jacket so

Other side stuff (world building kinda)

I’m rlly glad I assigned Web and Desolation to Rouge and Lime because their known to not get along. They constantly clash because of the Web’s intricate plans and the Desolation’s destructive chaos

I feel like do to how close Noel is with Rouge, he was also marked by the web. Not a very strong mark but still a mark.

Dorothy plays a similar role to Gertrude because she deserves to be an absolute badass. She’s spent a good majority of her life fighting the entities, stoping rituals, etc.

Fiona and Sirius’s parents were still accused of being “witchs” and burned but this time the main motivator was that Nicholas would accuse people of serving an entity

Speaking of Fiona Elford I’m giving her Fiona Law’s role because they share a name

(Also I would link Fiona Law’s wiki page but she doesn’t have one apparently)

Fiona would pass out when she got scared which helped her survive against the entities. She would be unconscious so they couldn’t feed off of her fear, and left her alone

Giving more to the role Gramps is going to play, Trevor is a vampire hunter, so Gramps would probably take that role, and and fell victim to the hunt first and later finds Wilardo.

That’s basically it!!

I don’t have much for plot. It’s jut wh characters in tma so I assume it’s like just that plot

Wait actually they still meet in the mansion but it’s connected to the entities

There’s no murder or timelines but it was genuinely the rain!

The entities mess with them for a bit and are let out a bit later either before the change or as it’s happening

The five of them wonder a apocalyptic world where the entities have taken over (and maybe meet the “demons” again)

That’s genuinely it!!! If anyone has any ideas, please say something, I’d love to talk more about this

Possible TMA spoilers for 1-4 ahead so read with caution xx

Sorry this took a little while to make usual life stuff appeared again x

I’ve not thought to hard about music until now so these might be no sense at all // also I’m doing this in series’s because of vibe changes and such but it’ll only be up until 4 because I don’t really feel there’d be much music listening in series 5 (if you have ideas for series 5 feel free to add them!)

Series 1:

Tim’s blasting every upbeat pop song he can find despite being told several times to stop by not just Jon but also the people above the archives

Sasha’s playing music in one earphone (so she can hear if someone talks to her) but she’s playing some chill music more for background noise than anything else

Martin plays his music through headphones pretty loud (mostly to drown out Tim) and it’s either that nice calming piano music or it’s early 2000’s alt/rock music. Either way it’s so loud he’s close to bursting his own eardrums.

Jon denies he listens to music because he claims it’s a distraction, however he has been heard listening to chill jazz because he wants to seem sophisticated. But he likes the more theatrical type of music but not musical theatre (if that makes sense)

Elias constantly plays creepy ambience music but really really quiet so whoever goes into his office can’t tell if it’s coming from his office or if it’s coming from a different room.

Series 2:

Tim’s still playing his music out loud but not as loud as before, there’s still upbeat songs but every now and again a slightly slower song pops up but he’ll skip it if there’s other people around.

NotSasha plays music from an earphones but she’s always got it a little too loud so sometimes people around her can hear it. She’ll play the same chill ambience but sometimes there’s a weird distorted sound instead, she tells people her earphones haven’t been working properly.

Martins still switching between calming piano music and early 2000’s emo but he’s stopped listening to it as loud- Jon had a go at him because he didn’t hear him, so now he keeps the music turned down just to keep an ear out for him.

Jon’s still denying he listens to any music because professionalism. But when he does listen to music he plays it as low as he possible can while still being able to hear it, he wants to make sure he can still hear what everyone else is doing and saying (s2 paranoia was something else)

Elias’s still playing his creepy ambience and has started denying that he’s playing anything if people ask. Occasionally he’ll play people talking very very quietly just to see Jon’s reaction.

Series 3:

Tim’s stopped listening to music out loud after the revelations of series 2. He’s tried to put the radio on for background noise because the archives is quiet now but there’s too many songs that remind him of the others so he usually turns it off. Martin suggested some ambience kind of music but that made Tim think too much of his encounter with the stranger so he chooses silence over that.

Martins still listening to the piano music but the 2000’s emo musics stopped, the slightly slower almost sad sounding piano feels more comforting now, nothing too loud or too fast.

Jon listens to the radio more while he’s staying with Georgie because there’s no need to be as professional but when he’s back in the institute he doesn’t listen to it as much but he also doesn’t make a point of sitting in silence whenever someone comes to him (if that makes sense)

Georgie listens to a mix of everything, doesn’t matter the genre or anything she’s got a playlist that’s 30 hours long and there’s not a single consistent genre in there. She also has a separate playlist which also features songs for her as well as The Admiral.

Melanie’s also an any genre type of person but there’s a little bit of a theme which is a mix between angry songs and sad songs. The musics always played through headphones and is always played super loud no matter how many times other people tell her to turn it down so she can hear them.

Basira just having a nice enough time reading with some chill jazz style ambience, nothing too chaotic just some easy background music for when she’s reading or just being in the archives in general. Sometimes she listens to music with lyrics but that’s also just that kind of easy to listen to style and it’s probably jazz.

Daisy’s got some intense instrumentals mostly when she’s in the hunt, keeps her on track and it’s loud enough to block out any other noise.

Elias’s still plays the music but has turned it up slightly because it’s now becoming a game to him just to mess with people.

Series 4:

Martins only listening to the piano music, to anyone else who manages to hear it the music sounds weirdly melancholy but he doesn’t think it is, in fact he finds it comforting but for some reason he always feels a slight emptiness from it.

Jon’s stopped listening to the radio, too many songs remind him of too many people. He’s tried ambience but it puts him on edge, then he tried instrumentals but they just felt hollow to him.

Georgie’s still listening to her mix of everything, there’s a couple more sad songs than normal but it’s still the same long playlist. The Admiral has now got his own playlist full of music that cats would enjoy.

Georgie and Melanie have also got a joint playlist which is just chaos with every genre involved

Melanie still listens to the sad and angry songs but there’s a few happy songs creeping in, especially after she manages to leave the institute. She’s also made The Admiral a playlist but hers includes some more chaotic songs.

Basria is still occasionally listening to the jazz but occasionally she’ll put the radio on, almost like a little tribute to the others and just to keep some noise in the institute just to make it feel less alone.

Daisy after the coffin’s listening to some calmer music just to try to keep herself calm and it’s more for distraction than anything else but that’s only when she can’t listen to The Archers.

Peter refuses to play the creepy music, because it would lead to people wanting to talk and ask questions about it, but also because Elias asked him to (he’ll refuse purely because of that)
