almost every portwell literally does not give a fuck about gina and we all knew this but it’s been proven so much after ep 5 😭😭 i was going to wait to say something but they’ll probably be making up in 3x06 so i want to say it now while the gina slander is still up and running.

“gina is being immature she needs to communicate with him ” this is her first relationship and she’s 16 and she HAS been communicating with him. he’s the first person she’s been going to with anything. she’s been asking him if he’s alright and if everything in general is alright. he just says yes and talk to val about it instead. she has been more than obvious she’s upset and he’s either being purposefully oblivious and/or he can’t read her AT ALL. asking RICKY what’s wrong and if his own gf is mad at him (after taking digs at him and their friendship for 2 days straight) instead of continuing to try to communicate and get her to open up? 😭😭

“she’s making a scene in front of everyone” and getting mad at her for talking about it in front of everyone. so was ej right for making nasty digs at gina and ricky for hanging out for 2 days straight? implying they’re sneaking around and then trying to tell ricky he got lost with her purposely? in front of everyone embarrassing them both but especially his gf who doesn’t even know he’s jealous of ricky and has no idea what’s going on. he can be jealous that’s normal but not the way he goes about it. and then they say it’s character regression but he’s been like this since s1 and even s2 (with cancelling his date with gina) where he assumes something and then doesn’t communicate his feelings and self sabotages instead. he never grew from it.

also let’s talk about how they want want to claim she’s been emotionally cheating on him this whole time. but i thought she’s over ricky? is that just not true anymore? and if it’s not true then they shouldn’t be together at all considering she never got over him? gina and ricky have not been intentionally flirting at all they’ve been friends. only during the duet did she flirt with ricky and i support her!

they don’t understand why she’s so upset either. it’s not overreacting and it is a big deal to her. she’s 1.) been abandoned by so many ppl in her life (with them never showing up or showing up but not staying) and she has trust issues because of it 2.) she said she hates liars and he KNEW that but continued to put it off. the fact he was going to tell her is not good enough he needed to set everything aside to tell her and he didn’t. he’s doing this “for them” but cant he bothered to communicate with her since they got to camp he’s been going to val instead and probably now miss jenn instead of gina. every single one of their conversations this season has been about him and her supporting him but she’s not supportive? he needs to be a grown up (yes he’s only 18 that’s hardly a grown up but i mean in the context of what he’s going through right now) and face his dad and put his foot down with the play. gladly he seems to be doing that by admitting he needs help to miss jenn.

does her doing the same things he’s doing make it right? no but shifting it all on her and acting like it’s not a reaction to the wrong things HE’S been doing is crazy. he’s been in so many relationships he can take the reigns and fix this. but it doesn’t really matter because at the end of the day it all goes back to them just not getting each other at all and them being in 2 different life stages

they “loved” gina during 2b (once she was away from ricky) and especially during 3a because she was a watered down version of herself who was trying to make herself the perfect gf. now that she’s showing her true self and what has made her her since s1 and is not perfect anymore they’re turning on her because they never liked her in the first place.

she’s not gina 1.0 or 2.0 or having character regression she’s GINA like she said in 3x02 and THEY DONT LIKE HER. but we all know they’ll pretend to like her again when they make up and potentially say they love each other.

No seriously the more I think about it the more Im so tired of the fireworks metaphor. Fireworks are not a necessary component of a relationship. Often you'll feel fireworks or butterflies or whatever but when you're more comfortable with a person and a relationship it feels comforting and right

so how is this season going? I’ve decided not to watch until I know if portwell is okay and if they break up I’m going to quit (I never really liked r/g since it always seemed one sided and I thought g deserved better) I’ve seen some of your posts but a new ep was out today so I thought I’d ask :)

Well, with every season comes good things and bad things, so I would say some good things I love about this season (as spoiler free as i can)

the new characters! val, jet and maddox were added to this new season and they have delivered. I love every single one, they are all different and awesome in their own way, they have depth and help the main characters push forward without feeling like that's the only reason they are there.

the plot. As much as i want to hate the plot with Corbin Bleu and how everything unfolds, I think it was done quite nicely. Corbin's character makes sense in the story, and his motivations also make a lot of sense, so the plot doesn't feel out of nowhere.

ricky. idk abt you, but i adore seeing ricky happy. this season really brought us that, and i love that his happiness doesn't necessarily stem from relationships like in the other seasons, but he just seems... free.

Gina. She looks happy, she looks in love, and honestly, i'm so happy that she is. the past 2 seasons she has cried a ton. I'm happy that so far she seems to be enjoying herself while being with EJ.

Now what i don't particularly love:

EJ. i mean, i love him i just don't love how the writers are treating him. It feels like they are intentionally messing him up, and i hate it

love triangle. this isn't a spoiler because it was advertised with the promo for the season and stuff, but it just really bothers me that they're doing this again. love triangles are already worn out in media, but doing it twice in the same show doesn't feel legal

ashlyn. again, i love ashlyn, but this season it feels like the writers didn't know what to do with her and kind of just gave her such a random plot, that i actually would've loved if it went to ricky since it made more sense to be given to someone who is single. they also give her this power ballad which, i'm kind of torn on, because the song is incredibleeee, but the story that goes with it is kind of shallow. it feels like something Glee would do. that's not a compliment.

the covers. the covers of the songs are not it this season, i've never desliked this number of covers so quickly in the other season tbh. don't get me wrong, i do love some of them (Love is an Open Door, Do You Wanna Build a Snowman, Start The Party/What Time Is It?) but there have been flops. ig music is subjective and you like what you like, but the It's On cover was... a choice, to say the least.

Anyway, these are random thoughts i have on the season so far, remember i'm just a pixel on the internet so if you don't actually agree with my opinions it doesn't matter :)

Just some of my thoughts and speculation on Portwell in S3 to counter some of the more negative speculation I've seen on here. This covers whether or not I think they'll break up, two potential storylines I could see the writers giving them, and a moment I really want for Gina.

Will they break up? Will EJ leave for college?

Based on what we've seen so far, how the writers have written their ships over S1 and 2, and how the writers ended Portwell's story in season 3, I can only see Portwell breaking up in S3 in one scenario: if the writers decide to write EJ off the show. And while that's certainly a possibility, I'm cautiously optimistic that it won't happen. Not now, at least.

I think it's more likely that EJ will go to a college nearby (the state school he mentioned) and that he'll find a new passion there while still helping out with the musicals at East High. Given that S2 introduced filmmaking as a new hobby for EJ, I could see him becoming more interested in directing. He was quite good at it in 2x05 when he made that video for Carlos, and he's always had an appreciation and eye for talent in other people, so I could see him really pursuing that. And what better way for him to get experience in that than by helping Miss Jenn co-direct the next musical? That could be a good way to keep him involved in the main storyline and still develop him as an individual. I just don't see the writers sending him to a college far away while keeping him on the show, cause that would be a repeat of the Nini storyline and would involve new sets, characters and separate storylines, all for one character. It just creates too many issues. So either EJ stays on the show and nearby, or he'll be written off.

Based on the ending of S2, I don't see Portwell breaking up any time soon. Rini ended S1 on a good note, sure, but the finale already set up a new conflict for them in the form of Nini's application being accepted. Plus, they never worked through the issue of Ricky hating change while Nini wanted to find herself outside of her relationships, which was set up way back in 1x01. Portwell has no such issues in place or conflict already set up. Their miscommunication was the only conflict they faced, and that has already been resolved. So I think that any conflict that will come up between them in S3 will be resolved within that season, and I don't really see them breaking up by the end of it. Anything that could've been an issue was addressed in 2x10 and set aside as non-issues, so I can't imagine that the writers will bring any of those things back as relationship-ending issues.

What stories may we see for Portwell?

Based on EJ and Gina's arcs so far and Tim Federle's interviews, I could see two storylines happening for Portwell this season.

1) I think this interview gives us a hint at a potential first storyline for Portwell:

Tim saying he's not sure if Portwell are a couple yet indicates to me that they're considering giving Portwell a similar storyline as Redlyn, where after their kiss they're still not sure if that means they're boyfriend and girlfriend. I could see EJ and/or Gina wondering about that for one or two episodes. Especially Gina, since this would be her first real relationship and because she really wants to know where she stands with the boys she likes. She needs clarity. Whether they're both wondering what they are or if it's just Gina, I would love for Gina to be the one to ask for clarity. She didn't do so with Ricky and instead just suffered in silence, so it would be such a huge moment of growth for her if she asked EJ what they are now.

2) This is a storyline that doesn't have to happen in S3, but just something that I can see happening at some point. If it does happen in S3, I imagine it'll likely be towards the end. At some point, EJ and Gina will realise they love each other. Given how EJ's last confession of love went (with Nini), I could see him being really hesitant about telling Gina once he realises he's in love with her. What if she doesn't feel the same way? What if it's too soon and he ruins everything?

Gina, on the other hand, I can see struggling with the question "how do you know that what you feel is love?". This is her first relationship, after all. So how can she be sure that she's in love? And when should she say it? When is the right time and place?

In my ideal scenario for this storyline, EJ would talk about his insecurities to Nini, while Gina does the same with Ricky. This could give them both some (additional) closure on their past crushes, and Nini and Ricky could give them some meaningful advice. Nini could tell EJ why she didn't feel the same way about him and that it had nothing to do with how and when he said he loved her. And Ricky could tell Gina about the moment he realised he was in love with Nini, as a way to repay her for all the times she gave him advice about his relationship with Nini. I think this could be such a meaningful thing for all four of them and really solidify these two friendships while at the same time giving us good Portwell and even Rini moments.

I'm not sure who I would like to say "I love you" first. EJ deciding to be vulnerable like that and take the risk and then hearing Gina say it back would be a beautiful full circle moment. But Gina saying it first would also be so meaningful for him. And there's even potential in them saying it at the same time. However the writers choose to do it, I think it'll be a very important and healing moment for both of them.

Closure for Gina and Ricky

Speaking of Gina going to Ricky for advice, I would just really like to see Gina talk to Ricky about how much it hurt that he didn't give her an answer to her confession and that it wasn't fair to leave her hanging like that. Tim Federle has said that he sees Gina and Ricky's story as not quite finished, and I think a scene like this could be what he's referring to. It would allow Ricky to voice why he didn't tell her he didn't feel the same way about her anymore (if I had to guess, I'd say he values her as a friend and didn't want to hurt her by rejecting her, but he ended up doing so through his silence anyways). And Gina actually opening up about how hurt she was and voicing that while she doesn't feel that way about him anymore, she can't just continue to be friends while pretending all of that didn't happen would be huge growth for her. Getting it all out there and talking about their feelings (and Ricky apologising to Gina) could give Gina and Ricky the closure they (mostly Gina) need and allow them to start fresh as friends. They do have a meaningful relationship and it'd be a shame to waste that, but they need to get this out of the way before they can truly be friends, if you ask me. Hopefully the writers agree and will actually address all of this in S3.

PORTWELL LONG GAME OR RINA SLOWBURN.

You can only choose one poison.🍷

Listen up my Wildcats.🐱

We all ship each character with happiness. No matter how much you love to hate them, a majority of us simply adores the characters and want the best for them. Then comes relationships and it's okay to ship our favorites.⛴

I'm a diehard Rina shipper and I know in my heart that they are series endgame. The set up, the natural chemistry, their mutual understanding, the surprises and angst literally put me on chokehold. So I'm 100% a Rina shipper till the end. I'm here for the slowburn and their development rather than one shots. They are worth the pain. 😭❤

Let me start with Ricky Bowen now.

Ricky shouldn't to be with Gina because he's hurting her mentality. He's not insensitive on purpose. Like when he tried to stop Big Red from telling her his message to Nina because he KNOWS it'll hurt her.

If you think, that Ricky didn't understand clearly when Gina confessed, think again. He shushed her. Kept their thing a secret from everyone. He knows he feels some type of way and she feels something too. But this boy is so used to safeguarding his childhood norms and has very little adaptability. Hence, he pretended to ignore everything between them because his home stability was falling apart and he clinged on to Nina, his constant childhood love.

He's a traumatised 16-17 year old boy that needs to heal and grow. This episode was heartbreaking because he had to accept that he had to let Nina go because their once upon a time fairytale had become toxic.

People change. I'm not the same person I was when I was 16 lmao. Being together as childhood lovers means growing together and accepting each other's growth. Which Ricky couldn't. He clutched to the idea of Nini. Even his love confession. It was sooo sweet but all he did was focus on their history.

This boy needs time to heal and maybe seek professional therapy. It would be so DAMN HISTORIC if Disney decides to take psychological issues seriously and show how he's dealing with his anxiety, pills and psychotherapy. He needs to breathe before he can be with any girl for that matter. He's hurting and isn't trying to hurt anyone on purpose. Including Gina.

Him asking her for advice on Nini was a dumb, insensitive move. But he's trying to find a way to build some supportive friendship that they shared in early season one.

As for now, this boy needs to get his own grip on life and heal.

As for our Queen Gina

In Gina's confession, she focuses on their future. She basically said, "I wouldn't quit on a possible future of us being together despite obstacles. Because I never quit. But moving away isn't in my control." Ricky deep down knows this, encouraged her to say it, teary eyed, despite right after getting back together with Nini. Gina is his future. She went to his new house. And I also have this feeling that when she was given a chance to stay, she stayed partly because of Ricky. She left a chance to be with her mom because she prioritised their relationship. Because she never quits. 💪🏼

But she came back and found out Ricky has gotten back together with Nini.😭 What she doesn't know is Ricky got together with Nina before her confession, and after Gina kept dodging his messages. She's hurt and questions why she returned because she isn't particularly close to anyone. Hence, she was so silent at the after party. She thinks it'll be fine, "she'll live", and finds other reasons to find permanence. Her arc this season has been settling down in East High, despite the pain of losing and being 'betrayed' by Ricky, she finds other reasons to stay. 🏡

This kind of contrasts her with Nina. Nina left her dream school and came to Salt Lake because she missed her established home, and not just because of Ricky. Nina returned and was loved and embraced by Ricky Bowen.💕 Gina came back to a semi new place called Salt Lake because of her promise of a future to Ricky. But she got stabbed and she bled. 💔🗡

Think about her situation. She feels confused, alone, heartbroken, out of place and seperated from her mom. She's broken and hurting too. And she doesn't need more from Ricky's accidental or intentional 'sick burns'. That's the one line where he was such a jerk and I can't defend him here. 😠

Here comes the Caswells.

Her second family. A place of healthy stability. A home that accepted her. Ashlyn, her roomie and her confidante. EJ, the misunderstood boy who saw her value and bought her plane ticket.

Let's get to EJ.

At first, I wasn't too keen on seeing Portwell's development. But then that video chat where they talk about the possibility of her staying and him convincing her. Had me sold for a solid brother-sister relationship. Few episodes later, when Gina's pain seemed to be oblivious to everyone, he was the only one who asked her how she was, and saw her glow. The comfort she must've felt.

Not that she needs a man's validation, but she must be feeling like a second choice and feeling a little insecure because of Ricky. But EJ lifts her up and I genuinely saw her smile. This boy has her back whenever. The man she can lean on and truly sees how special she is. She no longer feels alone now that she has his entire fam and other friends. She genuinely feels a place of belonging and happiness when she's the apple of his eye. Notice how happy she is? How happy this boy is? She's going through her own issues and she has found ground with EJ.

I was very doubtful when they started hinting at a romantic direction. Because EJ would be used as plot device again for a girl to get to Ricky.😤 This man doesn't deserve to be second best to anyone, just like Gina.😑 That's why I'm still hesitant on shipping them at least temporarily. EJ needs to be something even more special to Gina. They need to show each other how special and treasured they are to each other despite feeling like rejects. They are each other's source of comfort.

I'm sure they can keep EJ at East High for the next season. Whether it's the drama club, or the AV club or going to a local college. So he will be there for Gina. I don't know how they can work out a relationship with much distance as Rini's fell out when she moved away. So, if EJ leaves again, it'll again shake up Gina. Her being worried whether he'll date college girls, second thoughts, etc. I don't want them to go through that. And if they do move on to romantic Portwell, make sure it's not plot device for Rina. So you can either have Portwell endgame or Rina Endgame.

Basically I want Gina to be treated so right that she understands she doesn't need Ricky. And when he does ask her out, and he makes her feel like a second choice or a rebound, she says NO. Because EJ has helped regain her self assurance. Eventually I want Gina to confide in EJ about her and Ricky. EJ is jealous but also angry about how Ricky has been hurting her. And becomes damn protective of his 'babe'. Ricky gets jealous of their relationship, restarting Ricky and EJ's old rivalry. But this time, it's not because Gina is his girlfriend, but because she's EJ's best friend who he has a crush on and wants what's best for her.

If it's meant to be Rina endgame

EJ- RICKY, YOU IDIOT! You have no clue how to treat her right. You don't put her first. You mislead her. Get the hell away from her! She's too powerful and beautiful, she doesn't deserve your scraps. I know how she feels for you. I wish I were you. I would treat her like a queen. I don't mind even waiting years till she's ready. She deserves that. You're so lucky you have even a small chance that I may never have. So get your act together, prove you're worth it to win her over. All I want is for her to be happy. Even if it's with someone else. And maybe then I'll stop threatening you to stay away from her.😠

Ricky- .....I don't know what I'm more scared of. Change, or losing the girl I fell for or YOU. Okay, losing her but you're a close second.😬

If it's Portwell endgame.

Ricky- I messed up. Make sure you don't mess up with her. You'll regret it forever.

EJ- I'd rather get hit by thousand basketballs than ever hurt her. I'll be her plus one and her best friend until she's ready to be with me. I know she's ready now too. But I want her to know I'm willing to wait till she graduates before we make it official. I'm in it for the long game.

As for their age gap. I'm 100% sure Portwell won't kiss this season. If they do, it'll be next when Sofia turns 18. They are professional actors who are cast because they are the perfect fit for the role and are expected to carry out the storyline. But I suppose fearing some outbursts, they might delay Sofia kissing anyone till next season. It's so weird because Olivia was maybe 17 when Matt was 21-22 when they kissed in season one. But no one had a problem with that. But for this, they do. Remember, they are professional actors. They are acting! Sometimes, actors are over 10 years apart (but above 18) and act as romantic partners.

As for their characters, they are only two years apart. That's hardly any difference once you're over the age of 18. Age of consent is 16. But adults above 18 are only allowed to have sex with adults above 18. So, age isn't a problem here because EJ is a gentleman and is genuinely interested in her and isn't trying to get in her pants. So age isn't the issue when it comes to dating. It's the maturity. Gina is very mature and gives very sound advice. But I can see EJ being patient enough till she turns 18 just to kiss her because he loves her. 😚

As for the Ashlyn remark, "You look like a kid to me rn". He was JOKING.😂 Don't take things out of context. I tell my cousin sister that all the time. But she's three years younger than me and a grown adult. I don't see her as a kid but it's just a cousin teasing her younger cousin that's she's a little immature. I'm Matt's age and I'm very mature for my age and since I was a teenager, I always matched up with boys a little older than me. Now that I'm in my early 20s, I've dated boys even close to 30. So age is just a number.

EJ dating Gina and giving her quick kisses is fine. But to have a strong sexual element in their relationship (including making out), he'll have to wait till she's 18+. And I'm sure for that he'll wait till she's ready even past her early 20s. Age is really just a number and we can't help who we fall in love with. Trust me, I've been there.😂 So I can see EJ feeling conflicted about his feelings that are clear at this point.

They might not be a perfect fit, but they make each other sooo happy. They deserve a lot more than a short lived fling.😟 They are either endgame or Rina is. You can't have both as a Rina unless you're an EJ hater who wants him to exist as plot device. Nope! He's sooo much more precious than that.

But Jack on the other hand....I'm okay if he's the one to make Ricky or EJ jealous. Because he's just been introduced and it's okay if a character is used, but only once, for someone else to realize their feelings. 💁🏽‍♀️

In short.

Ricky needs help and needs to be on his own. No girlfriends allowed.🙅🏽‍♀️🚫

Needs to give both Gina and Nina space for them to grow on their own too.🌳

Ricky needs to understand the core of his problems and become more adaptable via therapy. Maybe the psychologist will point out his unresolved feelings for Gina, or he will conclude it himself. And in comes Ricky-pining-for-Gina season three.

Ricky needs to fully get over Nina before he moves on to anyone. Same for Gina if Portwell were to happen. No one deserves to be second choice.

Gina isn't Ricky's cushion. She's a living person with strong feelings for him and shouldn't be subjected to share his pain. She already struggles with her own issues.

Ricky needs to stay single till he wins back Gina and prove he's worth it. He needs to show even if another girl wants him, he'll never quit on Gina ever again. Even if he has to watch her be with someone else. *cough parallels*.

It's either romantic Rina then Portwell endgame OR Portwell flirty besties but Rina endgame. You and I can choose only one because my boy EJ shouldn't be used as plot device for a girl to leave for Ricky ever again.

Portwell's age difference can be practically solved and isn't much of an issue unless they get hot and heavy before Gina turns 18 which is impossible considering this is Disney. 🤣🤣

Jack and Gina will be plot device material and purely so sentimental to us OG Andi Mack fans. More than any ship, this is what I'm looking for. Sort of an Andi Mack crack ship for season 3a. It's gonna be soooo funny. 😍😂

I respect everyone's ship. I see what you're seeing. And I'm not going to invalidate your ship. But unless it's done right, I won't jump from the Rina ship. I liked Rini. I like Portwell. I like AU Juffy crackship haha.😂 But as for me, I'm still holding on to Rina slowburn.

(But if I had to pair two characters without Disney getting in the way, it would be Gini. The power duo. Undeniable chemistry. They can be written so well because of their layered relationship and contrasting personalities.🤩 The classic rivals to friends to lovers. But that's a talk for another day lmao.)

Portwell scenarios that I've come up with in my head that will most likely never happen in the show

Part 2 (Part 1 here)

We all know my boy EJ is a bit of an awkward dancer. But he's determined to give the best performance of 'Gaston' and 'The Mob Song' ever. So of course he'd ask Gina to help him with his dancing and she'd be more than happy to. So they'd practice after school in the gym and in Ashlyn's yard. And as time goes on Gina is impressed with how well he's getting the moves. She realizes that he's a much better learner 1 on 1 than in a group. And throughout all the dance rehearsals their bond gets closer and EJ may be pretending to be a little slow with learning some moves just so their private dance lessons don't end anytime soon

EJ is getting great with the camera, so whenever they have any kind of event or gathering he's always in charge of filming. And he can't help the way his camera may just focus on Gina a little more than the rest. But he wants to capture her smile on film because to him its the greatest masterpiece he could record

When Ash and Ricky are on stage singing 'Something There' EJ and Gina are on opposite sides of the stage looking at one another. And Ash and Ricky's voices fade out to be replaced by EJ and Gina's

After Gina rightfully puts Mr. Caswell in his place he starts to try and work on his relationship with EJ. And he was definitely team Gina, admiring such a strong-headed girl. EJ needed someone like her in his opinion.

EJ can't help how many times his eyes glance at Gina throughout the day. She's just so pretty and full of life, it's hard not to look at her. And he notices the way other boys look at her often too, even Ricky sometimes. And it makes his stomach twist uncomfortably in that sick sense of jealousy that he used to feel with Nini and he hates it. And he tries his best to stomp down the slight possessiveness he sometimes feels when it comes to Gina because Gina isn't a girl to be owned and he is no longer the boy who feels the need to own anybody. But God, he on the other hand wouldn't mind being owned by her.

Whenever people find out that Twizzlers are Gina's favorite candy she definitely can feel the judgement in the air. But when EJ one day offers her a Twizzler in class her face lights up. She thinks its just one more thing they have in common, but the truth is he doesn't like Twizzlers at all. But when he finds out she loves them he goes out of his way to make sure he always has a pack in his backpack just for her and forces himself to eat them just to see the smile on her face

Gina starts to straighten her hair. She hates to admit it, but she does it in hopes that Ricky might look at her the way he used to. Maybe if she looked like the others girls in school, the white girls with the bone straight hair. Instead Ricky doesn't look at her at all, but EJ does. In confusion. One day he asks why she's started straightening it. She flushes and stutters out that she was trying something new. Why, does she look silly? It's EJ's turn to start stuttering as he quickly explains that it looks really nice and that she should be able to wear her hair however she wants.....but that her curly hair just fit her more. Her curls were wild and exciting and unique just like her. (And EJ would never say it out loud, but most of the time he really just wanted to bury his fingers in her wild hair.) And Gina can't help but stare at him in flattered disbelief, causing EJ to turn red. And the next day she comes in with her wild curls and they share a meaningful look across the classroom.

On EJ's birthday Gina definitely gets them matching shirts that say "Team Wonderstudy". Whenever one of them has a major event going on in their lives the other will wear it. A waterpolo competition? Gina's wearing the shirt in the stands with a sign that says "Go EJ!". A dance recital? EJ is wearing his shirt and recording in the crowd. Both of their graduations? You bet they're cheering loudly and wearing their shirts

EJ can be pretty observant. Especially when lately all his eyes seem to want to look at is Gina. So he notices her sad and angry gazes towards Ricky, especially when he's with Nini. Its the same expressions he himself used to sport last semester when he had been jealous. He hates seeing her so upset over a boy that's not worth her time. He wishes he could be the boy she wanted. He knows he could make her smile. So to prove so he may have tied Ricky's shoelaces together when he wasn't paying attention. He felt a tad guilty when Ricky ended up falling on his face in front of the whole drama club, but to see Gina try to hide her giggles made it all way worth it.

There will most likely be a part three!

hsmtmts season 2 finale thoughts. spoiler warning.

oh my god. wow. ok

the fact that we never got to see the beast transformation when it was literally the cliff hanger of the last episode???? goodbye. AND WE NEVER SAW ASHLYN IS THE YELLOW BALLGOWN?? kill me kill me now

as much as i think ashlyn is a lesbian and is not romantically attracted to big red, their little thing that he did for her was so cute. they would be such cute friends. and i love how the entire cast knew and was just watching them. adorable.

howie is so sus. it was cute and all that kourt was making him nervous cause he’s so in awe of her but you cannot tell me he wasn’t up to something in the last episode *cough cough helping lily steal the harness cough cough*

SPEAKING of the devil let’s discuss the worst decision ricky has ever made. now ok i get it, she’s manipulating him, he doesn’t know she stole his harness, she’s a great actress and acts very genuine around him. and ricky has a very pure soul and believes in second chances (no pun intended) so of course he’s going to call her. i honestly don’t even blame ricky for this. i blame lily for being such a manipulative cold-hearted bitch.

moving on, gini. the hand hold. enough said.

i am a proud multishipper so while i freak out over gini, i am also going to freak out over portwell. let’s just take a moment of silence for matt’s acting skills. the way his face fell when he cancelled on gina and she walked away and stuff??? oh my god. i was sobbing. broke me. when ashlyn said that she didn’t know gina saw ej as a brother figure, a weight was lifted off my heart. i was cheering. i HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE the miscommunication trope and the fact that this time it only lasted one episode… i was ECSTATIC. portwell is adorable. i wish they would’ve kissed onscreen but i do understand the actor’s age differences so i get it.

if miss jenn and mr mazzara don’t get together i’m going to sue disney. i swear to fucking god. they are one of the only reasons i stuck through the beginning of season 2.

ej helping mr maz get that job???? adorable. so cute. ej caswell, my beloved.

while we’re on the topic of student / teacher relationship, let’s briefly discuss ricky and miss jenn. as much as i don’t ship ricky’s dad and miss jenn, miss jenn could be an amazing parental figure in ricky’s life. him giving her his blessing to date his dad and then her saying he deserves to be happy and then him saying that she does too??? my god. i was hysterically sobbing, my brother was concerned. UNDERRATED RELATIONSHIP🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣

i have so many more thoughts but i think i need to end it with, “i hated it because it was a horrible episode but i liked all the individual parts of it. 4/10.”

EPISODE👏 REVIEW👏 hsmtmts season 2 episode 10: get ready for some enthusiastic writing and a little too much looking into details

first off seb doing the intro made my heart happy i love him

ok i know everyone has been saying it but there is no way in hell they’re winning the menkies. unless the writers just go with the main character favoritism route, there’s just no way. however for the sake of comedy, watching ashlyn give us everything in the transformation scene and ricky being an absolute disaster is SO funny to me. like shout out to joshua because that scene made me laugh so hard. also a trio i need more of is kourt, red and ej. i just feel like they would be dramatic gossipy bitches and i love that for them.

normally i think ms. jenn’s reactions are over the top but after seeing the shit show that just occurred 2 mins before... i think her reaction is very valid because oh god.

continuing with the theme of friendship dynamics we haven’t seen a lot of but we absolutely need more of, ashlyn and ricky!! that scene was so sweet and wholesome. i’m so so so glad the writers didn’t fall into the trap of making characters take sides after a break up. i just feel like it’s been done a million times before. but seeing ashlyn being so genuine when checking up in ricky made me so happy. the caswells remain being the superior characters (including gina obvs)

ms. jenn and mr. mazzarra are cute don’t get me wrong but they should’ve spent more time developing that relationship instead giving ms. jenn like 3 random love interests and that’s all i’ll say on that.

i love imagining what characters are saying when they’re just ad libbing. like what could ej, gina, ricky and red be talking about before carlos shows up to start the scene?? my guess is they’re all gushing about how amazing ash is and no i don’t take criticisms on that.

alright i’ll say it. the seblos drama is weak at best. they didn’t spend enough time developing it and kind of pushed it to the background so when it was one of the main focuses of the episode it was kind of like ok?? HOWEVER i did love the resolution to it and the deeper look into their individual characters. (i’ll talk more about this later)

carlos calling ms. jenn mother and everyone immediately knowing who he was talking about sent me omfg. but also who the fuck let these high schoolers try to figure out this transformation scene by themselves?? they collectively have 2 brain cells and they just bounce around between the 9 of them depending on the scene. but playful sleepover competition!! also gina nudging ej when he goes a little too ej 1.0 was everything.

i hate lily and i love sassy red. that’s all.

(im going to talk about the boys/girls sleepovers like they’re each one continuous scene respectively because it’s way easier than switching back and forth)

fun new friendship dynamics!! the boys!! sebbie and the girls! iconic. i know that the show is meant to be in a mockumentary style so we only see parts of the characters lives but i would give my left arm to see the boys getting closer and becoming friends. this is also the first scene where i really noticed ricky’s shirt. ricky is queer disney are just cowards. i’m not a big ricky/ ej shipper but the pretty boy had me feeling some type of way. carlos being worried about seb and their relationship and then red being like well this is why. bc he’s got a spy on the inside was peak friendship. but seriously disney?? just say gay. it’s not a bad word. now imma freak out about PORTWELL OMFG I WAS ALREADY FREAKING OUT DURING THIS SCENE SO YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW WELL I WAS DOING LATER ON. but ej just being like im not ready to put myself out there because of nini i don’t wanna get rejected... again. my heart went out to him. you can really see how much he’s grown as a person. but sure ej y’all are “buddies” also him saying the one thing i’m proud of from my time with nini was letting her go and ricky’s reaction to that hurt me to my core.

alright let’s talk about the girls and seb. first off i love that they’re actually working and the boys are doing fuck all LOL. seb actually talking about how he feels?? good for him. i hate that he thinks that carlos is only with him because there’s limited options but at least he’s talking about it. a moment of silence for ash’s scissor bucket (i won’t make a gay joke. i won’t make a gay joke. i won’t-) anyways... i really thought that maybe ash would know about portwell but it’s fucking EVERYONE. like y’all are that perceptive about other peoples relationships but not your own?? that’s why all y’all have relationship drama. gina not wanting to put herself out there because she’s afraid of getting hurt?? ouch. gina thinking ej is just being nice?? ouch but also gina, sis?? what. also nini reacting that way to the chocolates is so out of pocket. like 1) y’all aren’t dating anymore so what’s got you so pressed? 2) gina made it clear that they weren’t actually from ricky 3) nini you know they had some sort of chemistry before you and ricky got back together so this really shouldn’t be that surprising.

anyways the scene with ricky and carlos broke me. the decision for ricky to not show nini the song was so mature. despite wanting to get her back, he KNOWS that that would only drag her back and that’s not fair to her and he knows it. but his awareness of seblos’s relationship and wanting to help carlos work things out with seb was so wholesome and so sweet and is kind of a big moment of character development for him this season. like he was generally very selfish this season (again i’m a ricky apologist til the day i die but he was so selfish) and seeing him take the focus away from his problems to help carlos out was so sweet. also i need more ricky/carlos friendship moments.

kourt talking about howie learning her love language?? bitch you mean espionage?? i mean me too but that’s so fucking funny

ALRIGHT THIS IS THE PARAGRAPH WHERE I SCREAM ABOUT PORTWELL!!! i am so so so so happy right now about this. the fact that ej asked about risotto but for real was so satisfying and was blatantly like him saying i know we faked being in a relationship but what about it not being fake and omfg that’s so amazing. also gina being skeptical and asking if ash put him up to it and him saying not that i know of?? THE PARALLELS?? also gina this whole season has been talking about signs and finding reasons to stay, finding signs to know if someone is right for her and you can literally see the moment she realizes she said the same thing about the duke sweatshirt to jack. the seblos song?? i have no notes. it was incredible. frankie killed that shit. it was such a good song. so sweet. so wholesome. also ricky and carlos’s hug was so fucking meaningful to both of them and you can tell. ricky was absolutely beaming because he helped the two of them and it feels like a little bit of season 1 ricky shining through.

HSMTMTS 2x11: Let us pull up a chair as the dining room proudly presents... the reason for my next mental breakdown

I can't believe myself, honestly. Oversleeping on the one day of the week that I've got something exciting to wake up for? Oh well, I'm up now and I'd better go ahead and do this before my dashboard has showered me with spoilers. I mean, I have never really minded spoilers, but when it comes to this, somehow I do. Though I do wish something had forewarned me about last week's snap ending (get it, 'snap'... I'll see myself out). I'd better dive in already.

Yes, Mr Mazzara, that's what I've been saying for a while! Ok, maybe I haven't been very vocal about it, but it was in the foreground of my mind that they should have asked for Mr Mazzara's help re: transformation! I'm just glad he pointed it out. Not that he could have done much while he was busy playing therapist for his beloved Miss Jenn. Oh well.

Were those Ash and Ricky doing actual paired-up warmups? That is what they should have been doing for weeks now. That and having actual off-stage interactions, too. But I still subscribe to the theory that the gang had some good rehearsals off-screen — otherwise there's no way they could have been this good on stage as we saw in the previews. I said it last time and I'll say it again — not everything is for us to see.

Wow. The one time our leads are in unison, and it is about both being injured. The East High drama club must be cursed — they can't have one production run smoothly and without what can only be described as pure unbridled chaos.

They don't have any understudies? That explains some things... but also how? But also, I'm so happy Ashlyn is going on. No way she would have missed her first (first of many, right?) chance of being the lead because of some 'minor' injury.

Ricky and Nini still can't talk to each other properly. Oh well. Take your time. It's not like I care about this pairing anymore.

Did EJ just use the word 'dig'? Boy, the boy's got it baaaaaad. Also, what is it going to take for these two to realise they're in love? For all we know, they might have that big kiss we're all dreaming of and still be like 'nah, it's nothing, we're buddies'... give me a break! But I mean, at this point they might just be turning into Redlyn 2.0, where even a kiss doesn't define things. But hey, if they do follow in Redlyn's footsteps, that only means good things in their future, right?

What did that fake French git do to my boy Carlos? He's not supposed to look this inanimate until right before the climax of the play! Well, I mean, at least Seb serving as his interpreter means that Seb gets more lines for a bit. Too bad he can't go on for someone with more lines in the play.

Miss Jenn's 'words of inspiration' were less than inspired... yeah, this show's going down. Or it would, if it depended solely on her. Let's hope the kids do better. I mean, I know for a fact they will... at least for about 5 minutes of the thing. There is still room for things to go wrong and I'm scared.

Oh, my sweet boy... I wish I could jump in there and do something to help him feel less nervous. Thing is, if I were there, I'd probably be the most nervous of them all, even if I were playing Townsfolk #3 or something, and everyone's nervousness would rub off on me, and I would be making things worse instead of helping. So yeah, I'm kind of glad I'm not there.

Ahhhh who called it? @redlyncentral was it you? Ash got flowers for her Biggie! And there's a card whose contents we've yet to see. But that doesn't seem to be helping either. My sweet, sweet Reddy... I hope and pray he'll be alright.

Well this is awkward! Who told Mike to show up and shake everything up right now? Miss Jenn is literally on the brink of exploding, and now she's stuck in this completely unnecessary love triangle. She needs some space. And a quiet place to breathe, thanks Mr M for suggesting it.

'Did we forget to build a mote around the school or...' Yeah, you tell her, Rick! That girl whose name I never want to pronounce (because it makes me think of much nicer people and she's making me hate it) has no business being there. She's not... being given a redemption arc, is she now? Some people just don't deserve it. And if hating her is an unpopular opinion now, well, I never did care much about having popular opinions. I can live with that.

'Lily, scram!' Yes, thank you, Natalie! I've always wanted someone who would voice my thoughts in a way that the characters can hear them. Make this girl a main next season, won't you? (Just so we're crystal clear, I mean Natalie, not the other one.)

OMG Mr M is in the play! In a way... I love that!

I love, love, love the way they did the prologue. 'Repulsed [the prince makes an over-the-top gesture of repulsion] by her haggard appearance [the witch shows off her face to the audience]...' I love this. I would pay a lot for a chance to see their entire play, you know?

Oh dear, somebody give my boy Reddy some sort of... medical aid against all the throwing up! I've got a nice pill that helps me with my bad cases of motion sickness. Hey, so maybe I could have helped if I were there after all. Great, now I feel bad. But also, is all the throwing up an excuse on the writers' part to keep my boy off-screen for the majority of this episode? Because it's a really lame excuse.

Gina's 'Many questions' continues to be a mood. What exactly is Miss Jenn expecting from the kids? Last-minute adjustments? No way. This spells disaster.

Was Carlos on vocal rest or something? Because he shines like the star he is... despite all the very obvious nervousness backstage. I mean, I wouldn't have it any other way, but... oh well, I wouldn't say it's unrealistic. In my personal performing experience, the most nervous ones perform the best. (So... what is that saying for my boy Reddy? Good things only.)

I've already had the opportunity to geek out about Be Our Guest yesterday, but... I mean, just look at them! Carlos doesn't need actual candles to be on fire, Ashlyn is stealing the scene without any lines in it, Gina is absolutely gorgeous, and don't even get me started on EJ and Big Red looking at their girls in absolute awe! This is everything!

Aww, look at them! Gina and Ashlyn dancing together, I mean. They're sisters and it really shows. And I love them both so much.

Kourtney is an absolute show-stealer! I'm still upset about some casting choices (one of them is in this scene, doing his absolute best with the crumbs he has been given), but she is absolutely perfect. I think I'll rewind and watch this entire scene again before moving on with the rest of the episode.

I'd just like to point out that Frankie's voice in his lower register is everything!

'You absolutely dusted that stage'... Not EJ making a pun so punny even I could not have thought of it... boy is absolutely smitten!

Not me tearing up when Jordan Fisher appeared as Gina's brother... like, I knew it was happening — I knew it even before it was announced. And I still teared up because, well, it's emotional in-universe and out.

Awww, my boy Reddy is so in love with Ashlyn... I mean, who wouldn't be... but — not Ricky saying Lily might not be as mean as they thought. Especially not to Big Red of all people. To him, she was just as mean as they thought.

'Side hustle project in the south hallway'? Ooh, what is it, I want to know now!

Why do I feel like things are a bit too awkward between Kourtney and Howie? Not that I'm too invested in their relationship, but if it bothered me, imagine how it must feel for the stans.

No, Ash, you absolutely do not need to add any fancy riffs to the song! Especially not just because L... well, that girl did it. You're unique and lovely and a literal Disney princess inside and out. That girl? She's just a wolf in a sparkling golden dress.

Awww... Big Red literally lowers Ash's blood pressure! Those two are such an amazing couple! (Full disclosure, though, he kind of does the same for me too; the other night I had this horrible nightmare, and I woke up in cold sweat in the middle of the night, and then... ok, getting too personal there.) The point is, if even the fantasy of a Big Red hug makes me feel better, imagine what his actual presence would do for Ash at that moment. Where is my boy? Everyone seems to be looking for him.

Oh... guess they took my advice to give the poor boy something for his vomiting issue. Good for whoever thought of it.

And we're back to the Porter siblings... forgive me if I still can't wrap my head around calling Gina's brother Jamie. I don't know about you guys, but thanks to my lovely new friend Paz he will always be Theodore to me. I guess we can headcanon that as his middle name. Anyway, I love it that they made a joke about the hilarious height difference between him and Gina because, well, it's the only thing I can think about when I look at the two of them. It reminds me of me and my little cousin who has been taller than me since she was 10, and is still growing taller now at 13. But, I mean, it's not very hard to be taller than me, since I'm so, so short... ok, this is not about me. Moving on.

Was I the only one who actually laughed out loud at Ricky drinking from the bowl as the Beast? I mean, that part has always made me laugh in the original movie, but something about Ricky's take on it makes it even funnier.

Meanwhile, my girl Ash is absolutely killing it as Belle. Not me having the very same expression as Big Red while watching her... gosh, I love both of them so much! Also, no offence to the rest of the cast, but Julia really is the best vocalist out there. Out of all of them. I said what I said.

My apologies to Ricky, but his voice is just not it when it comes to playing the Beast. Still, with the other option being him putting on that fake deep voice from the audition, I'm glad he didn't.

Ahhhh Portwell nation you ok guys? Since we didn't get them singing Something There, this is very much the next best thing... and boy, is it good!

Those glances between Kourtney and Howie, on the other hand... what on Earth is happening there?

Ok, so you all know just how strongly I feel about Seb's casting as Chip, and yet... boy had one line and absolutely ate it up! Give him an actual singing role next time, Miss Jenn!

EJ being starstruck by Jamie not because he's a big music producer, but because he's Gina's brother... excuse me while I sob!

Excuse me, what!!!! 'A big brother figure'? Boy, this didn't turn out the way I thought it would... now I'm scared.

Way to ruin things, Jamie! And I don't even mean the fact that his name is not Theodore. It doesn't matter what his name is anymore. He might just have put a spanner in the works of Portwell, and they were just doing so well! Ugh, I'm so frustrated. I wish I'd never boarded — what did I call it — 'the majestic S.S. Portwell'. What if it doesn't set sail now?

And there goes another disappointment... Carlos' 'the orchestra hasn't vamped this much since Bop to the Top' line had nothing to do with Seblos, and everything to do with what might still be the downfall of this show. I am not ready.

No. Miss Jenn did not just say that. She did not just tell Ricky — who, may I remind you, not that anyone's forgotten, just fell off of a high place last episode — to 'jump off of something high'. I realise she's under all the pressure, but that is not an excuse. Well, at least she heard herself.

Oh my gods... Nini — well, Nina, actually — did not just call him 'Richard', did she? That's it, that's the point of no return. And well, I kind of wanted them to reach it.

Told you, didn't I? I told you that-girl-who-must-not-be-named was evil! I always follow my intuition and it has not once deceived me. Redeem that, if you can! Guess what? You can't. We've just reached another point of no return.

Wait, a bloody cliffhanger? I cannot handle this. I physically cannot handle this. If you need me, I'll be sitting on my bed in shock, trying to process everything that happened. I'll need a while to get a grip on myself.

ranking hsmtmts characters bc i’ve got nothing more important to do

14. lily

she’s just plain annoying and i want her to get off my screen every time she’s on it.

hope she’s not in season three and if she is she’s not redeemed (make her even more evil, then maybe she’ll be interesting).

[this is just about the character of course, nothing against the actress]

13. miss jen

i was finally starting to like her in the beginning of season 2 but the last few episodes reminded me how infuriating she is. i don’t like how she treats her students and the fact that she doesn’t have teaching credentials doesn’t help.

12. ricky

it’s not that i hate him i actually like him sometimes, but he’s so oblivious and gullible. give this boy some therapy then maybe we’ll talk.

11. nini

she’s alright. but we see so much of her and yet so little of the important stuff that would actually make her interesting. i support and respect her and all, i just don’t really care about her.

10. natalie

hello where’s her screen time? episodes 10&11 proved she deserves it.

9. big red

he’s just kinda there. i like the actor but i’m not that invested in the character’s storyline.

8. carlos

respect him a lot. but the show doesn’t give him enough plot line for me to care.

7. seb

love him bc he’s a sweetheart but him and carlos are in the same boat (or should i say ship) when it comes to screen time. the show remembers they exist once every 5 episodes, so they’re just kinda there in the background.

6. howie

he’s so high up bc he intrigues me. i’m certain that he’s a good guy but i guess the finale will settle it for me.

5. kourtney

i’m glad that this season she’s not just a supportive black friend and gets her own storyline. although i wish we’d seen more of her at work & pursuing her dreams instead of only witnessing the howie drama (and even that mostly in the background).

4. ashlyn

ash was consistently great from the beginning. love her bond with gina and need more of it.

in some ways she reminds me of phoebe from friends because she’s a multitasking queen and apparently likes to stir up drama (bc wth was that deal with the chocolates).

3. mr mazzara

even though he was sort of an antagonist in season one (for like 4 episodes) and he said a few nasty things, since his first scene, i liked his presence and comedic timing. in season two he completely won me over. he’s just someone who can do no wrong at this point. and his relationship with ej is amazing. so yes he’s in the top 3.

2. ej

ej could’ve be an unlikable character but matt cornett is portraying him so well it’s impossible not to like him. he was definitely one of the most surprising character development wise. although he was my second favorite since day one, regardless. his story arc was one of the best. he is the best male character. now, i’m kinda scared to lose him next season. and also, portwell for life <3

1. gina

do i even have to say it? she’s a queen and everyone should bow down to her. should’ve been the main character idc.

sofia wylie was the reason i started the show and gina became my number one the second i saw her in the background. finally this season has been giving her all the screen time she deserves and i couldn’t be happier. gina is one of my all time favorite comfort characters.

Alright, so. I ship Ricky with Therapy (Rickerapy) and Gina with Happiness (Hapina). That’s my final stance for a while. I’m very curious on where they take Portwell. If Rina’s gonna happen then...I’m honestly not sure how I feel about it? Like I still enjoy the idea of Rina, and it’ll be a lot better than Rini (I think) but...no guy is worth that much pain and heartache Gina’s dealing with.

I guess if Ricky ends up working through his fear of change, learns better communication skills, and accepts/confronts his own feelings a lot better and treats Gina like the amazing person she is and makes it up to her then maaaaaaaaaaybe I’ll be on board with Rina in the end.

But yea, I’m definitely vibing more with Portwell rn.

Also, Nini deciding to live for herself. It’s such a good peak for her arc this semester I’m pretty happy.

Finally, while I’m giving Ricky a lot of shit, as I said in my previous live!blog--I still like his character and everything is very consistent with what we’ve seen from season 1. If anything, I’m really excited to see his arc come to a head and what comes after!

my thoughts on 3x07 (excluding portwell bc i’m going to get to that in a separate post):

there were jetwen moments!! not many but they looked at each other and they talked and they sat next to each other and it was cute i know it’s small idc let me crackship

EJ’s literally so cute that little spin and his suit he’s adorable

Carlos doing EJ’s makeup is literally everything i love this

Ricky saying it can wait shows growth and awareness on his part because he realises if you’re going through it jumping into a relationship isn’t the best, from experience. And he’s not going to mess with someone else’s relationship, even if that relationship is in a tough spot. Also I’m just glad he’s not emotionally manipulating her like people worried would happen.

The you aren’t alone thing very touching this is the good stuff. They’re all sisters now and it’s everything

Ashlyn and Maddox!!! Listen, I’ve never really been that invested in Redlyn they’ve always kind of felt like both characters were there so why not put them together, but I think they’re a valid ship, so my heart goes out to those who love them. That being said, Ashlynn and Maddox!!!!!

Ricky really is growing. Like maybe part of why he didn’t tell Gina the truth is him being scared of the relationship, but I really think it has a lot to do with him not wanting to manipulate her when she’s in an emotionally vulnerable place or confuse her or push her into things at the wrong time. I really appreciate that from him.

My heart HURTS so much for EJ the way he’s red-eyed and barely holding it together and Maddox is like oh yeah things are going to get worse and he’s like help what do I do and she’s just like idk man. No one will help this man stars I have so many thoughts about EJ’s treatment.

Like I said, I will be getting to portwell in a separate post. I spent my whole class half paying attention and scribbling my thoughts in the margins of my notebook. The post may not be out till tonight or later because I’ve got a lot going on but it’s coming. The thoughts are many.

Yes I agree, 6 was the first one of the season that I can actually say was a good episode! Idk why they wasted half the season to get there, but it had some good moments! I also agree with you that Ricky needs help and that I don't see him & Nini lasting very long... but I'm also mad at the adults in Ricky's life (besides miss jenn ofc). Hate what the writers are putting Gina through... and EJ also just... deserves better lol. I also don't ship Portwell romantically, but I like them as friends.

I'm happy you liked my s2 hopes!

I honestly felt like the writers are trying to make all the characters have romantic relationships in canon when they just don't need to be there. I also think they probably had a lot more planned for YAC but a ton of the scenes or storyline got cut for whatever reason. Covid/shutdowns could have played a part with the weird vibes from the first half of the season. A lot of this season gives off the vibe that they had too many ideas and instead of choosing one or two they're doing all of them and it's just a mess.

I honestly think 1-5 were like, footnote/scrapbooked together scenes mashed together in a panic cause they didnt have enough North High written for the whole season. Which makes me sad because North High would've pulled me right in if they used them more at the start. They're supposed to be the main antagonists this season but East High Drama Club doesn't seem to give a fuck about their own musical outside Gina and Carlos (and maybe EJ but he's a little off).

I'm expecting the rest of s2 to be an absolute dumpster fire dont get me wrong, but I have hope they're going to start picking things up. Honestly if episode 6 wasn't as good as it was (it literally felt like something right out of Glee) I was planning to stop watching the season for the time being.

And yes! Portwell makes a great friendship BROTEP. They're the wonderstudies power duo. EJ and Gina need friends, not a significant other. (Especially, especially after that Ricky flashback. I don't think Gina's about to date anyone anytime soon). I love the fact that the Caswell Cousins have just adopted Gina. She needs a family and EJ and Ashlyn were like yes hello you are one of us now. I love their little found family so much.

So I binged watched High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (Hsmtmts) season 1 about a month back. Now I'm watching season 2. As many, I was surprised to semi like this show. I'm impressed with how unique it is. I won't lie some things have irritated me or disappointed me, but honestly it's better than I thought. A little too much about relationship drama in season 2, but the moments about other stuff is really good. Holy heck all the kids are so talented, they all have such great voices. Can't wait to watch more. That aside I feel like season 2 is getting better, cannot wait to see the next episode. 2x09 looks really good in the promo which prompted me to think about how I feel about each character or couple. I loved that they brought back pretty much the same 6 background 'chorus dancers' in season 2. I know there's more, but actually including them like thed New years party, Improve, and the Quinceanero.

I know I may be hated for this, however I do not ship any of the four 'main' at the moment, they all have so much to work on. But my hsmtmts weird venting of feelings rant. Sorry in advance.

Nini & Ricky - First and for most I never shipped them after the first break up and the slow burn throughout the rehearsals for hsm. Not sure what exactly it was but they just didn't work for me. Communication was such a big problem for them right from the flashbacks, and I know it's a Disney show but a whole year to say 'I love you' felt strange when later we practically see them eating each other blah. Something did not work for me. Their chemistry died part way through season 2. Falling in love with your first love and bestfriend is really precious, but also so heartbreaking at the same time especially if things don't work. Because you never want to lose the friendship. Ricky was becoming too much and treating her terribly, which she absolutely did not deserve. Nini deserves to be independent, she is very talented I won't deny that, but I feel sad because she seems too disconnected from the group even with her bestfriend Kourt despite them placing the two together the last two episodes, something just seems off. (Now this may be just my bias of usually hating main characters when there's a larger cast trickling in) She's still amazing and I hope they can write her independent growth and connection to her friends a bit better, and give us something to look forward to for her character. She needs to learn how to communicate and not hide behind songs or running away. Also proud that she said she wasn't returning from Yac completely for Rocky, which would have been stupid. I would not want to see her give up her dream because he wanted her to. Now I will say their second break up was so mature and beautifully done though and glad she has her fans and music to help her get through. I want to see Nini lean on her mom's for support. Hope she gets an interesting storyline that can showcase how super talented Olivia is with that incredible voice, can't wait to hear more💖

Ricky, well dang this boy needs therapy. He has so many problems he needs to work through. He seriously needs the support of his parents and friends to help him through his break up and abandonment issues. He was becoming pretty scary during season 2, it was making me so uncomfortable. He doesn't like change and yes that's hard to get through but yikes he was almost becoming toxic in some ways. I also know it's very hard to break trauma engraved feelings. Ricky was so insecure that he had to delete a comment from Nini's insta, honestly felt kind of out of character(felt like it was reverting back to season 1 with Ej being jealous, and I did not like it). He's a great character and I hope they show him getting help and working on his issues. I know they showed him with his Mom, Lynn in the 2x09 promo(which is so hard because I don't like her) so I hope it works out and she can help him or that they can have a genuine heart to heart conversation about her actions and how they impacted him. Still don't forgive her for everything so put Ricky through in the first season. He looks so sad and I hope they focus on his mental health and concerns before even thinking about any other relationship drama(wishful thinking...). So happy Ricky had Big Red, those scenes in the montage were so precious and heartwrenching. Big Red just knew Ricky needed him. I want to see more of that friendship grow because it felt slightly lacked in season 2 but that could because he was too focused on Nini and that the rest of the group was growing. I hope they do not let Ricky and Lily happen, that would be such a mistake. Josh is crazy talented can't wait to hear more🧡

Gina - Gosh this girl just needs a big ass hug. I feel so sad and constantly worried about her. That would be so hard constantly moving around never feeling grounded anywhere. I really liked that Ashlyn tried to help with developing a 'home' for Gina. Gina being so independently powerful and strong-willed is a great attribute to who she is and I loved her fierceness in season 1, but I feel like I haven't seen much of that this season, still like her a lot. It just seems she's sadly always putting on a brace face, which makes me feel awful for her. Her pining of Ricky is my least favorite thing about her. I get feelings can develop and with how she fell for him in season 1 and he chose Nini in the end was really sad. But I must say I felt disheartened when she thought Ricky was the one to send her the chocolates on valentines day and was mortified they turned that miscommunication into a joke. Nope, that was not something I liked at all, it felt forced. Yes, they work/see each other in the musical, but with the confused feelings they both shared they really should have backed away from each other to figure things out until both know exactly what they want. It's not fair to each other or Nini and Ej. I don't ship Rina though. Gina in episode 2x05 had me so sad for her, she deserves the world and I was so sad she was internally saying goodbye to everyone. I hope we see her and he mom work on things that will be the best to support Gina. I 100% do not want to see Gina and Jack be a thing, I know they're actors but nope that would be too strange after watching Sofia and Asher as tweens on Andi Mack. Also they really went there with the 'I feel like I know you' seem familiar scene, why? I cringed, I know it's a nod to Andi Mack fans who most probably now watch hsmtmts. I hope we continue to see her friendships grow with everyone. Sofia is so dang talented💚

Ej - I just want to say he went from being hated, to one of the favorite characters in season 2. He became so likeable. Carlos' comment about emotion in the song Gaston was big progress from the scene in season one between the pair, it was nice honestly. I really like Ej's relationship with Mr. Mazzara and hope that he continues to support Ej. I think that can be very good. I also love Ashlyn and Ej's relationship. I hope we eventually see a apology scene or talking scene between Nini and Ej. I really do not like Portwell and I'm so sorry to the fans. But I just don't ship it. I would love them to be good friends and be supportive of each other, their conversation was nice in the 2x08. I hope we see more of his interactions with different characters and continue to see his relationships develop. Ej and Duke well that is a whole other thing. Him acknowledging his privilege and how he didn't earn it was great character progress and very interesting to see. I did feel super sad for Ej, because the boy clearly works so hard with all the clubs and teams he's on, his high gpa, as well as his many other extra curriculars. His Dad, Cash making calls was ridiculous and I'm so proud of Ej telling him he's not going to Duke. I hope we get to see Ej grow independently. However, the promo for 2x09 shows Ej either packing or unpacking boxes with Ashlyn in the room during the zoom call. So I'm worried it's either him helping Gina move out, or the more likely option. Cash Caswell kicked Ej out over him saying he did not want to go to Duke at the end of 2x08. Ej has so much pressure on him. Gah please let Matt sing more, his voice is incredible💛

Ashlyn & Big Red - Redlyn is really sweet and I hope things work out between them regarding them not going through more jealously and relationship drama. I do wish the writers would have explored Ashlyn's insecurities a bit more and with more than just Big Red. I did not like the using her insecurities as comedy in some scenes. Ashlyn being a Disney princess is amazing and such a good thing to showcase. I liked the way they went with Big Red and the career stuff. I see absolutely nothing wrong with him wanting to continue his families legacy and proud that he said that to Ash. Also was happy to see them working that out and her understanding and accepting that. When she finally agreed I was very happy. I don't hate Antoine, but I def don't want to see some weird love triangle glad they said they were working through that. I really want to see more of them together and separate as they're a really cute couple and I think could survive their relationship with independent plot lines. The valentines moments were too sweet. I want to see more scenes with Ashlyn and Ej as I feel they have lacked this season. So, I definitely want to see more of them together as besides drama club, they are part of very different circles so I was shocked to see them so close. However, the more we learned about the Caswells, it appears they grew up alone and only with each other, neither of their parents being home. With her throwing all the parties and him being at her house often and correct me if I'm wrong he sleeps in the spare room quite a bit after parties or in general at her house. Although he did just knock/ring the doorbell in 2x08 which I don't think we've seen before. And his mind else where with Duke and probably his crush nerves somehow forgot Gina was living with Ashlyn. Julia's voice is fantastic that high note in the mob song was just wow. Larry can really sing so well dang, glad he got to sing more in season 2. I cannot wait to hear more from them❤

Carlos & Seb - Seblos is absolutely adorable, that might be biased though because of Joe and Frankie! Even though they are playing characters I feel like there's a little of them that slips through sometimes and I find myself smiling. I hope this fight that keeps being spoken about can be resolved easily. I'll be really sad if not. My heart feels for Seb, as I get Miss Jen doesn't see him as a leading man but she broke barriers once with him being Sharpay which was awesome, he was amazing. So, I hope Seb gets a bigger part in the next musical, and that he and Carlos can work through their relationship dynamic and problems. Really sad to constantly see Seb be told no and disregarded. I want that to change and see him stand up for himself. I don't like that they're portraying him as 'dumb' honestly. Always hate those characters in shows. Sure they say funny things but it's weird. Carlos looks like he's overworking himself and being there for everyone that isn't Seb. Carlos does need to focus on himself a bit and find time for him. Gah I was so happy to see some of Frankie's own heritage represented in the show in 2x05. Carlos' relationship with Miss Jen definitely weirded me out initially😅 I thought the plant growing with them was adorable and the meaning behind the Climb was great, just too cute. I've saw someone mention they think Ricky is going to be going through too many personal problems and be unable to perform and that Seb would take over, which I honestly agree this will happen. Hope to see so much more with them. Definitely hope to hear more singing!!! Gah Frankie and Joe's voices are incredible. They both need to sing way more💜

Kourtney - I still cannot believe she was only meant to be a one or two episode character, she's incredible and I'm so happy they made her more than just Nini's bestfriend who the main character whines to. I loved how they incorporated her as an asset and fashion/costume designer. She's headstrong and so very talented. Really glad they added Kourtney as a cast member to the musical. I mean her step in scene as Taylor was funny, but it's nice to see her break out of her box a little. I hope her relationship does not deter her future and headstrong nature. I really really want to see her relationship grow with other characters that aren't Nini as they were starting to before she came back. Seb and Kourt were great. I'm still indifferent about Howie and Kourtney after everything that has happened with North High. The Harry Potter references were too great though. Can't wait to see where else they go with her character and even Howie. Dara and Roman have such amazing and jaw dropping voices. Dang I want to hear more singing from them both💙

So that was a long winded explanation of how I've been feeling. The show is amazing with such young and talented actors playing awesome characters can't wait to see where else they go with them. Definitely need more singing and dancing.
