Hello there my few but faithful followers! It’s me, DK! Your humble scribe. I hope you’ve been enjoying my little incorrect quotes. I know I’ve been somewhat absent on AO3 lately, but I’m hoping to change that soon. I’ve been working on a few things, including a short story parody of the 1985 movie Clue with our lovable Dark Crystal Vapran Princesses, as well as a new chapter of Lantern. But before that, I’d like to post a drabble on here. A bit of an ending to AoR. It may end up being a 2 parter. Depends on if the person I bounce all my ideas off of says it needs it or not. Anyway, here it is. Hope you like it!

After Everything Has Been Resolved in Season 3 or 4 (Including Tavra Getting a New Body Exactly Like Her Old One). The Dark Crystal Movie Timeline Never Happened and the Hero’s of the Resistance Solved Everything…

Our hero’s sat on the shores of the glittering Sliver Sea, the beautiful colored sails of the allied fleet anchored just offshore. Multiple parties dotted the countryside, celebrating the end of the long war between Thra and the Skeksis. The Crystal of Truth had finally been restored, and the UrSkeks had been returned to their rightful world.

Rian glanced over at Tavra, who has her arm draped lovingly over Onica’s shoulder, her head nestled beneath her lover’s.

“Hey Tavra, may I ask you something?” Tavra lifts her head lazily from its resting place.

“Yes, what is it, Rian?”

“Just…what was Mayrin’s problem with Onica and you meeting up together? I mean, I get that you’re from different clans, but it’s not like much can happen, right?” Tavra looked at him strangely, before giving a glance at Deet, who just shrugged helplessly.

“Uhh, Rian? You do know where baby Gelflings come from, don’t you?” Tavra asked as one would a childling.

Rian scoffed.

“Ch! Of course I know where babies come from! My father gave me the same explanation I’m sure all your parents have you. When a male and female Gelfling mate and consent to it Thra blesses them with a childling. Everyone knows that.” Tavra and Onica share another strange look.

“Yes Rian, that’s true. But haven’t you ever wondered about Deet’s fathers?” Onica prompted. Rian shrugged.

“What about them?”

“Aughra’s Eye, Rian!” Naia burst out. “Just how sheltered was your life inside the Crystal Castle? She’s saying Tavra and Onica can have a childling on their own, no males involved! Just like Deet’s dads had her and Bobb’N without a female involved! I mean, you must’ve noticed how much she looks just like both of them! Good grief man! You are hopeless. Are you sure this is the one for you Deet?” Deet smiled, holding Rian’s hand in hers.

“Yes, quite sure.” Naia rolled her eyes.

“Alright then. He’s your idiot. Now, where’s my little Nightcrawler?”

“You called?” Amri popped up behind her, causing her to jump.

“Don’t do that!” Amri pulled her in for a kiss.

“Aw, you know you like it.”

“Hmph” Naia grunts but kisses him back. Kylan smiles at his two best friends from where he and Gurjin are seated across from them. Naia takes notice.

“Speaking of childlings, how about you two, brother of mine? Ever think about settling down and having kids?” Kylan went beat red at this, while Gurjin frowned at his sister’s attempts to embarrass him.

“I think it’s a little early in our relationship to be thinking about that, don’t you? Besides, I’m not the one who has to worry about creating heirs to the clan, eh? It’s more up to you to make strong daughters to carry on the line, ain’t it, Sis?” Naia’s ears twisted as her embarrassing comment was brought back around to her. Kylan smiled appreciatingly at his lover.

“Thank you.” He whispered, earning him a soft hug and a kiss on the forehead.

While all this was going on, Tavra was lost in thought. Rian’s question had given her much to think about. She and Onica had a lot to lose when her mother was alive, and the clans were divided by the Skeksis’ lies. But now that the war was done, and her mother was gone, did she finally have the chance to do what she wanted? To be free?

Onica noticed her lover’s eyes straying off towards the horizon. Out to far off distant seas. She knew what Tavra was thinking. Onica herself desired that same freedom. In the past, she had made a promise that one day she would sail away with Tavra and make their own clan. She fully intended to make good on that promise one day. And today felt like a good day to set sail…

The “traumatic” moment of her life, when Mothy meet the “Double Troubles of the Great Smerth. She doesn't care if the adults find it cute, someone get these gelfs away from her! They don't mean to come on strong, the twins are just happy to have someone their age to play with now.

Headcanon: I believe that Laesid had the twins young, around 19 or 20 trine. Since she took the Maudren seat at the young age of 16.

What reading material would you recommend regarding Dark Crystal lore and such 🤔 feels like there’s a lot and tbh I’d like to have what might be useful for understanding events, world concepts, characters, and so forth. I know the canon is kinda soft so, I suppose just useful sources all around.

Note that there is some bias here with my choices, but this is what I think is generally important:

Creation Myths (I would argue this is the most important thing to read first because it sets the stage for literally everything)

Songs of the Seven Gelfling Clans (in depth look at the culture of each clan)

The official Dark Crystal website (it's a goldmine of terms and information not found anywhere. But keep in mind it seems unfinished and has wavering continuity).

Dark Crystal Bestiary

World of the Dark Crystal and the Dark Crystal novelization (these are considered "sister companions" to the movie and it'll help one better understand it and also fill in missing gaps it desperately needed)

the J.M. Lee books (it's an alternative universe, but if you really like Naia, Kylan, Gurjin, and Tavra or want to know about book exclusive characters like Amri, skekSa, and skekLi this is a great series to pick up).

The AOR comics (most important to least: the Quest for the Dual Glaive, the Journey into the Mondo Leviadin, the Ballad of Hup & Barfinnious (only read this one if you like Hup)).

Heroes of the Resistance (half of this book can be found on the Dark Crystal website, but there are bits of exclusive information in here as well. Notably around the Skeksis and urRu from the series).

Jim Henson AU feedback

So I’m looking to possibly write a big fic on Jim Henson multiverse kinda with an emphasis on dark crystal. Basically a few gelfling would be transported to earth which is shared between fraggle rock, muppets, and Sesame Street all in their irl locations (fraggle rock in Canada, seasame street New York, muppets in Los Angeles).

But idk where everyone would go necessarily? I feel like Rian would definitely end up in fraggle rock, possibly with Brea and Deet maybe? Maybe Hup? Trying to also determine who would go to the muppets and who would go to Sesame Street.

Basically the premise is it’s an AU where tdc characters (mostly gelf) get sucked into an earth where the muppets, fraggles, and Sesame Street is all real. Their mission is to find each other and get home. I may also place a few characters from each in Thra but again focus would mainly be gelfling on earth.

The characters I see going to Thra are probably uncle traveling Matt, Kermit, Cookie Monster, Fozzie, and Boober, with their respective friends scrambling for leadership replacements/trying to find them. But if anyone could find better fits to go to Thra lmk. I was preparing to have Honeydew and Beaker stay on earth with Doc to come up with a way to get the gelfling home when they eventually team up. Other than that lmk who you guys think should go to Thra/be interesting plot points. The only one I know for sure is staying is Gobo so he can interact with Rian.

I’d go in depth on Matt/Gobo’s relationship and how much it actually hurts Gobo that he’s always gone/he longs for something more and for Matt to be close more often and see him as more of a son than nephew. I think for Kermit I’d explore him not having to take a leadership role and realizing he’s happier getting to be part of a group and not have to lead it.

For the gelfling, it’d be finding out how the world works on earth and them slowly realizing the Skeksis were actually oppressing them. For Mayrin/Ordon, they’d learn how much they put work over their kids and ended up hurting them and strive to have better and stronger relationships with them. For Rian, Gurjin, Brea, Deet, and a few others, it’d be hardening them to an unfamiliar world and making them a bit more serious/respect the lives they had rather than try throwing it away by putting themselves in dangerous situations. For characters like Tolyn/Seladon, it’d be that they can have fun sometimes and not to only focus on work but on those around them they love.

I also point out characters like Gobo and Kermit as being the leaders of their respective shows they’d also be semi main focuses. I’m thinking possibly a team up in the end to defeat the Skeksis with the Skeksis teaming up with others as well? (Though other JH villians are kinda hard to find…maybe the hecklers form muppets? I don’t think Doc would help them though…but maybe unwillingly or they lie to him that they’re the good guys?).

To give more clarity on the timeline it happens right before AoR and on earth would be the original muppet show, fraggle rock, and semi original Sesame Street (perhaps a few years after Kermit started the muppets and switched jobs from Sesame Street to the muppets). Not planning on Walter or anything like that. Main human with be Doc or ocs/side characters without a big role.

But anyway any help is greatly appreciated might make this more of a summer project but I’d enjoy any feedback I got thanks!
