when matt has experienced a bad day, he tends to get very quiet. sometimes even a little snippy whenever he’s asked if he’s alright. he recognizes that acting this way isn’t going to make his day any better, but it takes his a little bit. let him clam down, and once he’s done that, he’ll seek you out. quietly apologize for being snippy, and telling you that he’s just had a bad day. you can ask him how his day was -- he’ll tell you everything and at some point, slowly wraps his arms around you and leans his head atop your shoulder. inhaling your scent immediately calms him and he’s already starting to feel better
⋯ KELLY SEVERIDE
kelly tends to let everything build up. almost insisting he is fine and there’s nothing to truly worry about. and no matter how much you push, he’ll maintain the same story. until something just absolutely breaks him and everything that he’s kept bottled up for month finally comes pouring out. he’ll cry -- more of his eyes tearing up as he refuses to let them fall. but he practically falls into your grasp as you pull him into a hug. it’s really all he needs, just the comfort of having you near him as he talks about different things and lays his heart out on the table. card your fingers through his hair and just tell him that ‘it’s gonna be okay’. that’s all he needs for now
⋯ LESLIE SHAY
leslie, much like kelly, can be stubborn when it comes to talking about any bad days. however, she’s different as she’ll give one of the briefest overviews -- almost as if she’s giving a report, and then insist that she’s fine. all of her emotions comes out when she drinks, and you can tell she was anything but fine, considering the amount of drinks she’s already had. she’ll crumble into your arms, looking for your warmth as she begins to babble about her day and everything she was feeling. she’ll cling to you, but it’s truly something she needs as you’ve noticed her start to calm the longer and tighter you hold her
⋯ SYLVIE BRETT
sylvie will seek out comfort after a bad day. honestly, any type of comfort will help, but if given the option, she wants to spend her time cuddled into your side with her head resting either against your shoulder or chest. she doesn’t talk much about her day -- only just to tell you that it wasn’t one she would want to experience again before eventually falling asleep. she feels better with you, nothing you have to do aside from allowing her to cuddle up to you
⋯ STELLA KIDD
stella gets all quiet and short tempered. it almost takes you by surprise, until she makes a comment about her day. to which you ask her what she needs -- as she often wants different things depending on what had taken place. and once she makes her request, you’re dropping everything to do it. often, her go-to answer is to ask to be held in some way. honestly whichever way is comfortable for the two of you at the time.
⋯ BRIAN ‘OTIS’ ZVONECEK
brian is going to get super quiet after a bad day. meaning that whatever had taken place, must have really hit him hard. like most of the others, he will seek you out almost immediately. he needs comfort and wants to decompress from what he experienced for the day. kiss away his tears, hold him tight -- he’ll take literally any form of comfort so long as you are willing to give the time
⋯ JOE CRUZ
joe takes a lot of things to heart, and while he’s been able to keep himself from taking each thing he wasn’t able to do so personally, there are times in which he can’t help but feel that. especially after a bad day. he’ll seek you out, looking for some comfort as he gets the day off his chest. he’ll immediately wrap you up in his arms, tucking his face into your shoulder. he won’t talk about it right away, wanting to see you and tell himself that seeing you is better than any bad day he’s experienced. and while he’ll come clean about his day eventually, he’s just wanting to spend as much time with you as possible
⋯ CHRISTOPHER HERRMANN
christopher tends to get angry -- never directed towards one person, just as his frustration of the day grows, it gathers to a point where he may explode and accidentally take his anger out on the closest person. he realizes that mistake literally seconds later and calms down immediately. taking a few deep breaths before sitting down to tell you. he finds comfort in your touch and will show you by kissing your knuckles before apologizing. he’ll spend the night making it up to you, and in turn, it helps him settle in and finally gain some closure for the day
⋯ VIOLET MIKAMI
violet will put on a brave face and will power through the rest of her shift until she can have a moment to decompress. which is usually once she gets home and she can let her emotions out about her bad day. depending on the scale, there will be tears and she’ll hold onto you tightly as she lets it all out. she wants to be with you, and most likely won’t be getting up from her spot unless you manage to coax her to either eat or take a shower. otherwise, she’ll be content laying against you until she feels ready enough to detach herself form you
⋯ EVAN HAWKINS
if anything, evan grows more frustrated with himself. slowly begins to fall down the rabbit hole of ‘what ifs’. trying to think about what he could have done differently to change the course of the day he’s been having. he’s patience wears a little thinner and sometimes he can be a bit of a pain to have a conversation with. until he gets home and he crumbles, talking your ear off about how his day had been until he practically runs out of breath. he feels better afterward and can usually move past that day but it will always stick with him as he could have done better
⋯ GREG GRAINGER
greg tends grow quiet, almost closing in on himself and trying his best to get through the rest of his shift before going home. the second walks through the door, he’s immediately finding wherever you are in your shared home and latching onto you with already tear blurred eyes. he doesn’t really want to talk about it just yet, just needs to hear you talk gently to him and hold him close. he’’l eventually come clean about what took place, but he needs his own time to think through what had happened

angst, imagine Grainger coming into the ED because he got injured in a building collapse on a call and needs surgery and while they wait for him, Matt realizes how much you are into and love Grainger
The ANGST. Oooof this is getting a drabble. Putting it under a cut cause it went long.
You were sitting in amongst the firefighters from 40, everyone giving you space. Your relationship with Greg was known, but you hadn't known him for nearly as long as his engine guys had, you didn't want to overstep. But you couldn't keep working. Watching him be brought into Baghdad and whisked up to surgery had broken your heart.
"Doc, we got some coffee. Want some?" You didn't even know the firefighter's name, but took the cup.
"Thanks."
"Grainger talks a lot about you, y'know? Someone made a joke that he's dating Casey's sister it'd be a disaster, but he said you were worth it. We always can tell when you've spent time together off shift. He loves you."
You smiled, wiping a tear. "We said that to each other last night. And I trust everyone here. But it's hard."
"We've got you. You're CFD, you've a brother and a boyfriend in here. We'll be there."
It was quiet for another hour or so, watching the clock tick on the wall while sipping the now cold coffee. Officers from different houses came in, and you spotted Matt slipping into the room, still in his turnouts with soot on his face.
"Bug? You ok?" Matt came over and you shook your head.
"It's Greg. They brought him up to surgery, Crockett's operating. Matt..." You trailed off, unwilling and unable to say anything.
"It's ok. He's gonna be ok." Matt squeezed your shoulders, going to talk to Greg's Chief before coming back and sitting beside you. It was quiet for a few minutes, Matt's arm around you as you forced yourself to hold together.
"You love him, don't you?" He asked and you nodded.
"He's good to me, Matt. He knows about Mom and Dad, he knows about our pasts. He loves me. And I love him, and at least I got to say it before..." you trailed off, staring at the floor.
"There's no hospital I'd trust with any of my crew more than here. I'm staying till you get the news."
So you sat and waited with your brother's arm around you, hoping against hope that you'd actually get your happy ending.

Cuts and Bruises
Pairing: Greg Grainger x reader
Summary: After treating the temporary fill in at Firehouse 51 for a minor injury, Y/n gets the feeling that she'll be seeing Greg a lot more often

Warnings: mentions of a fire and minor injuries
Word Count: 1,423 Words
"Hey, Maggie," I greet the charge nurse. "Where are all of these people coming in from?"
"51 just responded to a huge complex fire," Maggie responded. "It's mostly minor burns, cuts, and a few bruises. Just take a patient chart, fix them up, and send them on their way. I want this ED cleared by 3."
"Got it," I say. "Thank you." So, I picked a patient at random and started doing whatever I could to help. After I had treated a few people, I went to the waiting room to grab the next person in line, but just before I could, Sylvie walked in with a firefighter at her side. “Hey, Sylvie. What’s up?”
“Grainger has a cut on his upper arm, and he insists that he’s fine, but it’s pretty deep. I think it might need stitches,” Sylvie put in.
“I’m fine. Seriously,” the firefighter insisted. “It’s just a scratch.”
“I’ll have Y/n be the judge of that,” Sylvie spoke. “Can you check over him? Please?”
“Of course,” I answer. “Follow me.” I led Grainger to the nearest empty bed and had him sit down while I pulled on some gloves. "So, Grainger-"
"It's Greg," Grainger interrupted. "Greg Grainger."
"Y/n L/n," I return, "So, Greg, are you new to 51? I don't think I've ever seen you around before."
"I'm just a temporary fill in as Engine 51's Lieutenant while Herrmann is on vacation," Greg told me. "And I work at Firehouse 40. All of the people we help on calls go to Lakeshore."
"Then it makes sense why we've never met. There's no opportunity for us to cross paths," I claim. "Now, lets see that arm. If you could ditch your coat, that'd be great." Greg took off his coat and laid it down behind him, but the wound was so far up his arm, his sleeve was covering it. "I uh, I'm gonna need you to take your shirt off too."
Greg didn't even flinch and pulled the shirt over his head, setting it down on top of his other gear. My cheeks heated up at the sight of Greg's toned chest and abs, and so I put all of my focus on the cut on his shoulder.
"So? What do you think?" Greg implored.
"W-what?" I stammer out, my face flushing even more.
"Of the cut," Greg stated. "What do you think? Does it need stitches?"
"Right," I murmur. "Yeah, I'd say so. But just a few. I can get you out of here in 10 minutes. Just sit tight." I was true to my word. 10 minutes later, I had finished up the last stitch on Greg's arm and was just putting a bandage over it.
"Thank you for this," Greg said and hopped off the bed, grabbing his gear from behind him.
"It was no problem," I assure him as he began putting his shirt back on. "Now, I don't know if you've had stitches before, but you've got to keep that wound dry for the first 24 hours, and also try not to overuse that arm. We don't want your stitches to rip."
"Got it," Greg confirmed. "Thanks again, Y/n."
"Like I said before, it was no problem," I repeat. "I uh, I hope I get to see you sometime in the future."
Greg smiled. "I have no doubts that you will. Bye, Y/n."
"Bye, Greg," I wave after him as he left the ED. Throwing off my gloves, I exited the treatment room to get to the nurses station, and I just so happened to bump into Will.
"Who was that?" Will asked and followed Greg out of the door with his eyes.
"A temporary Lieutenant for Firehouse 51," I reply and type away at the computer in front of me.
"Mmm," Will hummed. "You've got the hots for him, don't you?"
"What? Will, I just met him 15 minutes ago," I try and reason.
"But you do find him attractive," Will pointed out. "I can see it on your face."
"You cannot," I retort.
"So it is true? You find him hot. You know, I could see you and him being a cute couple," Will confessed.
"All right, I'm done here. Unlike you, I've got patients to work on," I attest to.
"This isn't over!" Will called out playfully as I walked away.
"Yeah it is!" I shout back.

It had been one week since I met Greg Grainger for the first time. And whenever I wasn't busy with work or my social life, my mind wandered to him. Seeing him shirtless on our first encounter, the sincerity in his voice whenever he talked, the smile he sent my way when he left the ED....lets just say he impacted me in a way I never new someone could after spending just 15 minutes together.
"Whatcha thinking about?" Maggie questioned as she joined me by the nurses' station.
"Nothing important," I lie. "Just about what I want for dinner after shift."
"Uh-huh," Maggie muttered. "You're thinking about Grainger, aren't you?"
"Ugh," I groan. "Not you too. Did Will put you up to this?"
"He may have mentioned something," Maggie revealed.
"Oh my...." I trailed off. "I've only met the man once!"
"Twice," Maggie corrected me.
I frowned. "What?"
"He's standing out in the lobby," Maggie informed me. I turned around, and when I looked towards the lobby, I saw that Greg was indeed standing out there. For a second, our eyes met, and then he started walking towards me. To keep Maggie out of my business, I took a couple dozen steps forwards to meet up with him.
"Hey, Greg. What are you doing here?" I quiz. "Don't tell me your stitches ripped."
Greg laughed. "Surprisingly, no. They are still in place. I uh, I actually came to see you."
"You're still in your gear," I notice. "Did you come over here in the middle of your shift?"
"Yes," Greg responded. "But that's not the point. I came over here because for the past week, whenever I'm not focused on something, I think about you, which is weird because we only met once and it was for 15 minutes. But everyone at Firehouse 51 has told me what an amazing person you are, and that only pushed me to come here more. I guess what I'm trying to get at is that I'd like to take you out on a date."
"A d-date?" I stutter.
Greg nodded. "Yeah. Unless you're not interested or you're seeing somebody. If that's the case, forget about it."
"No. That's uh, that's not the case at all. I'd love to go on a date with you," I admit.
"Good. Great," Greg clarified, a slight blush rising to his cheeks. "Well then I will contact you later with the details."
"Greg wait," I interject, and reach forward, my hand grasping onto his forearm.
"What's up?" Greg asked. Instead of answering, I took my small memo book out of my pocket, scribbled something down on it, and then ripped the paper away, folding it neatly before stuffing it into his hand. Greg unfolded the piece of paper and stared down at it, his eyes glancing over my handwriting. "Your phone number?"
"Yeah. You need some way to contact me. How else were we supposed to talk about our date? Because as much as I love meeting up here at Med when we're both supposed to be working, the two of us could be fired for that," I joke.
"Right. Thank you," Greg spoke and sent a smile my way. "I'll be in touch soon." As soon as Greg walked off, I smiled to myself and turned around to head back into the ED. By the nurses' station, both Maggie and Will were waiting, desperate to hear the news.
"Well? What happened?" Maggie pushed.
"I just got asked on a date," I say.
"Told ya you liked him," Will exclaimed.
"So, what are you two gonna do? Tell us everything," Maggie requested.
"As much as I would love that, I've got work," I disclose.
"Work? You don't have any patients right now," Will declared.
"What? I'm sorry. I think I hear Dr. Abrams calling for me upstairs," I share and walk towards the elevator.
"Come on!" Maggie whined. "You can't just leave us hanging like that."
"I can, and I think I just did. See you guys later," I chirp and step into the elevator, the doors closing seconds later, leaving Maggie and Will frustrated in the middle of the ED.

Off Limits
Pairing: Greg Grainger x Casey! reader
Summary: On her lunch break, Y/N decides to visit her older brother Matt, and at the firehouse, she bumps into a man she's never met. They both hit if off right away, and despite Matt's attempts to keep Y/N away from Grainger, the two can’t seem to ignore each other

“Hey, Will! I’m taking my lunch break now. I should be back within the hour,” I alert my attending.
Will nodded. “Gotcha. See you in a bit.” After throwing on my coat and grabbing my bag, I left the ED and climbed into my car before heading to Firehouse 51. My older brother, Matt Casey, was a Captain there, and I was very proud of him. He had worked hard to get to his position. The drive only took a few minutes, and soon, I spotted the familiar firehouse up ahead. I parked my car against the curb, and once I had all of my things, I headed towards the firehouse. Stepping inside the building and finding the apparatus floor empty was weird. Usually, Severide, Capp, and Tony would be sitting at their table, or one of the truck companies was doing drills. But today, the only person there was someone I didn’t recognize.
“Uh, hi. Can I help you?” the man asked as he rolled up a hose and placed it into the storage compartment of Engine 51.
“Yeah, um, I’m looking for Matt,” I say.
“Matt? You mean Casey?” the man questioned.
“No, I’m pretty sure I mean Matt. I’m Y/n Casey,” I greet the man and extend my hand. “Matt’s my older brother.”
The man reached out and shook my outstretched palm. “Greg Grainger. Nice to meet you.”
“Are you new here, Greg? I’ve never seen you around before, and I come around here a lot,” I state.
“I’m just filling in for Herrmann while he’s out on vacation. I work over on Engine 40,” Greg informed me. “And let me guess. You’re a doctor?”
“How’d you know?” I ask.
Greg gestured at my outfit. “You’re wearing scrubs.” My face flushed a deep shade of red once I realized how stupid I must’ve sounded. Why did I always have to embarrass myself in front of handsome men?
“So, Matt,” I bring up, hoping to steer the conversation in a different direction.
“Right. I’m not too sure where he is at the moment, but I can help you find him if you’d like,” Greg suggested.
I smiled. “Sure. That’d be great.” So Grainger led me deeper into the firehouse as we checked different rooms looking for my brother, and we finally found Matt in his office doing some paperwork. “Thanks for the help, Greg. I hope we can meet again sometime.”
“Yeah. Me too. See you later, Y/N,” Greg said and left the bunk room. Once he left, I walked up to my brother’s office and knocked softly before peaking my head inside.
“Hey. You ready to go to lunch?” I quiz.
“Why were you talking to Grainger?” Matt questioned.
“You mean Greg? He was just helping me find where you were,” I tell Matt. “Why?”
“I want you to stay away from him,” Matt ordered.
I frowned. “Stay away from him? What the hell are you talking about?”
“Don’t talk to him, don’t look at him, don’t approach him,” Matt listed off as I stood in the entrance to his office.
“Matt,” I start.
“Y/N, I’m serious. Promise me you won’t talk to him ever again,” Matt demanded.
I sighed. “Fine. Whatever. Now, you want to go out for lunch or not? I don’t have that long a break.”
“Yeah, as long as it’s not that burger place you like,” Matt stated.
“What? But that place is so good!” I exclaim.
“Maybe, but I’m tired of it. What about barbeque?” Matt proposed.
“You know, I could get down for some pulled pork,” I admit.
Matt smiled. “All right then. Lets go.”
Two Weeks Later
The mood in Molly’s was kind of depressing tonight. It seemed as if everyone inside, the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, nurses, and doctors, had all had a bad day. I was one of those people. My day had been pretty terrible, therefore I just wanted to have a few drinks and forget about my shift.
“Here ya go, Y/N. One whiskey,” Herrmann spoke and placed a glass in front of me.
“Thanks, Herrmann,” I say and take the glass before stepping away from the bar. I turned around and scanned the rest of the bar, and that’s when I saw Greg sitting at a table in the back nursing a beer. I then made my way over to him, and when I neared him, he glanced up from his drink. “Hey. Mind if I join you?”
Greg shook his head. “Not at all.” I slid into the seat in front of him and took a sip of my drink, the alcohol burning my throat as it went down. “So, did you have a bad day too?”
“How’d you know?” I ask.
Greg shrugged. “It seems as if everyone’s day has been rough. And you ordered a whiskey. That’s a straight tell that someone wants to forget something.”
“Yeah. I uh, I lost a kid today,” I confess.
Greg’s face fell. “Oh. I’m so sorry.”
“He had leukemia, and I was trying this new blood treatment to see if it worked, but it did quite the opposite,” I mumble and swish my drink around in my glass.
“Well, I’m sure that you did one hell of a job trying to save him,” Greg told me.
I gave him a small smile. “Thanks. That’s the one thing I hate about being an ED doc. You can’t save everyone.”
“Hey, uh, you want to get out of here?” Greg questioned. “My place isn’t to far, and I’m kind of in the mood for some Chinese food.”
“You know, that sounds amazing,” I admit and down the rest of my whiskey in one gulp. Greg followed my lead, finishing up his beer in a few seconds, and stood up to follow me out of the door. Just as we went to exit Molly’s, the door opened to reveal my brother.
“Y/N, where are you going?” Matt asked. His eyes then moved to the person behind me, and when he saw that it was Greg, he scowled. “What the hell are you doing with him?”
“Uh, Greg, can you give us a minute?” I quiz.
“Yeah. Sure,” Greg replied and stepped past Matt, heading in the direction to his car. As soon as he was out of earshot, Matt started talking.
“Y/N, I explicitly told you to stay away from him. I said I didn’t want you anywhere near him,” Matt declared.
“Since when were you the boss of me? I’m not seven anymore, Matt. You don’t have any control over my life!” I argue. “And Greg’s a great guy. What the hell do you have against him?”
Matt growled. “Y/N, would you please just listen to me?”
I sighed and reached out to lay a hand on Matt’s shoulder. “Matt, I know you’re just trying to protect me, but I’m not a kid anymore. I can make my own decisions. And right now, I’m deciding to go hang out with Greg. If it doesn’t work out, and he turns out to be a crappy guy, then I’ll come crying back to you saying that you were right. But at the moment, things look like they’ll be okay. I want to see where things go with him.”
Matt rubbed a hand over his face. “Okay, just be careful. You’re still my baby sister, and I want to look out for you.”
I chuckled softly. “Don’t worry. I have a feeling you’ll be looking out for me for a long time. Now, if you’ll excuse me, Greg is waiting outside. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.” And with that, I walked out of the bar and over to Greg’s car, climbing into the passenger seat. “Sorry about that. My brother is a bit protective.”
“He’s been iffy about me ever since we first met,” Greg pointed out. “So that doesn’t surprise me.”
“Well, after what I just told him, hopefully he’ll lay off for a bit,” I say.
“Right,” Greg murmured. “You ready for some Chinese food?”
“Yes,” I answer.
Greg laughed. “Okay then. Let’s get this show on the road.”

Greg Grainger X Reader, 📝, "Hey Sylvie told me about the call, are you alright?"
Greg turned to look at you, shaking his head. "He's in surgery...it's not good at all. It's my fault." Sylvie had warned you, pulling you off shift and calling in a replacement because she knew Greg would need you there.

"Then we just wait, ok?" You held his hand, standing when his Battalion Chief came in and introducing yourself. You stayed there beside Greg, only leaving to grab takeout from a delivery driver for everyone.
It was another three hours of silent worry, squeezing Greg's hand to remind him you were there, when Will Halstead came in and told you that his candidate was going to make it.

I don't have any greg x reader ones! There's one where reader flirts with him, but that's going to end up a kelly x reader. But there won't be any dating Greg to make Kelly jealous or anything like that. He's a sweet dude who deserves someone great for him!
