terrible news, friends. the playlist for my current wip (and unless something goes horribly wrong, the next fic on the docket for posting), is just the entire track listing for the 20th anniversary remaster of Evanescence’s Fallen. i take both Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman and Remedy Games’ award-winning Alan Wake 2 very, very, very seriously.
at the same time—that album still absolutely holds up to an end-to-end listen. Amy Lee has one hell of an instrument, my dudes.

Grace is also such a funny antagonist he holds himself so highly but he's so fucking pathetic and clueless. He's bad at everything he panics immediately under stress, and he could not read a social situation if you gave him an annotated script. He's sorta well intentioned but he's so horrifically bad at it. And I love him.
#I hesitate to even call him an antagonist because he's that bad this he's more just along for the ride. which is ig the point#he's sort of a Clive parallel in that both of them want desperately to be taken seriously but are actually just pathetic. man, it's rough when you love a character and you love the arc they have but virtually everyone else you've come across who loves the same character hates their arc with a seething passion
and I get why people hate it but like... I like it. I think it's a good choice. I think it follows with his character development, it makes sense within the greater narrative, and it fulfills his potential in a beautiful, aching, poignant way. It hurts, but it feels like it's supposed to. I like it and I think it's good and it made me love Blorbo more. Honestly, since rereading...I see hints to how this arc would end from the very beginning of his introduction.
Just feels bad when everyone is harshly, viciously criticizing one of your favorite arcs because they hate the parts you liked best.

TPN 181 - WSJ Release vs Volume Release Differences
#wait what they changed the last few pages? have to look it up in my volume o.o (via @officersnickers on this post)
Yeah I've talked about it a bit before in this post, but the volume version adds nine pages on to the WSJ release of chapter 181 and tweaks some of the frames starting around page 17, besides the inclusion of this incredibly poignant side scene at the beginning of the chapter:
The first is an expansion of Emma's speech to the demon god that spreads one panel's dialogue across multiple panels and adds on a bit of new text.
Pages 17-20, WSJ release:
Pages 17-22, volume release:
Pages 19-25 of the WSJ release and 21-27 of the volume release remain the same.
Pages 25-28, WSJ release:
In the volume release, page 27 is the same as WSJ's 25, but page 28-29 adds a dream sequence/vision of Norman and Ray finding Emma on the shore they washed up on two years ago, as if she was always there, waiting for them to turn around and find her like in the chapter title art:
Page 30 expands WSJ's page 26 dialogue out across more panels:
Page 31 removes the "screw destiny" text in the panel next to Alex in WSJ's 27 and replaces it with a panel of Zack, Thoma, Gilda, Lanni, Rossi, Mark, and Jemima (the rest is the same):
The "screw destiny" text is moved to the bottom of page 32 while the top is a mix of flashback panels that include a straight-up lifted one of the trio hug from chapter 27, a new panel of Emma and Ray running after they remove the trackers in chapter 33 but before Anna tends to their wounds, a new spread of some of the kids in the bunker during the Cuvitidala arc, and a tweaked version of Emma and Ray extending their hands to Norman in chapters 153 and 154; Emma wears a slightly different smile while Ray wears a more relieved smile on his face as opposed to his stern frown in the originals:
The page 33-34 spread expands the scene on WSJ's page 28 to include more characters as well as alter the expressions of the characters who were on the original page. Notably, Don, Gilda, and Jemima can be seen crying now, Ray's smile is less intense and now softer and more fond, Norman is sporting a blush with tears pricking his eyes, and Emma's hint of a blush is stronger as tears prick her eyes as well, both in the group shot and in the panel of her by herself.
Page 35-36 is an extended spread I've talked about before:
This spread legit made me catch my breath for the briefest of seconds seeing it for the first time. Such a powerful statement conveyed in such simple concept: how after centuries of suffering on the grounds of Grace Field, that chapter of history closes as life blooms anew.
Page 37 shows what life is like for Mujika and Sonju as they lead the demon world into a new era (since Leuvis dipped lol)
And the final page of the volume's version of the chapter shows Emma running off to join her family in front of Alex's home, now filled with plenty of laughter and life again:

PONY ASK BLAST!
I haven't finished MYM myself despite enjoying the first G5 movie. Partially because I find it a little too babyish in comparison (which y'know, its fine that it's targetted towards littler kids, although G4 and Bluey prove you don't HAVE to dumb it down to be fun, educational, and memorable), and because I really dislike the choice to make Opaline the reason ponies turned on each other. Like yeah, it wasn't PERFECT but idk, as a black person I think the first movie at least got closer to addressing bigotry by showing it isn't JUST antagonists like Sprout and Phyllis spouting off bigoted shit- even the good guys Sunny and Izzy had preconcieved notions of the other races too! But going "Nah, nah actually this random alicorn brought back racism because evil" reaaaally cheapens it. But moving onto my point: what do you think about Opaline? I'm curious to see your opinion. :3c
i ended up watching the rest with my little cousins (who coincidentally are how i started watching bluey lol) and was...disappointed. it wasn't much of a love letter to g4 as i think they wanted it to be and as a plotline on its own, it's weak and doesn't really hold the thematic relevance that at the very least even the weakest g4 villains had. it's cute, but i can't blame people for finding it so hollow when g4 genuinely managed to pack a lot of wit, care, and geniune passion into its writing (ah. before um. the final seasons that is. ppl are talking about cozy glow again on twitter and im reminded of The Agonies).
yeah, was not impressed by "bigotry is ackshually caused by One Bad Person". i'm not asking for an indepth examination of structural bigotry from thy miniature equus, but i think a lot of cartoons and things for kids have been able to take these concepts and present these more complex ideas in ways that can still be understood. one could say, it's better if we let kids understand these things as how they are than dumb it down.
idk i know it's for young kids but i am gonna say my little cousins LOVE g4 more than g5 for a reason :3c
