Amazing news‼️‼️
An official script for D-Day (the story of how Murdoc and 2D met, and how 2D got his name in the first place) written by Cass Browne has just been released- And on Jamie’s birthday! 🎉
This script was originally written, along with a few others, for a Gorillaz TV special, which unfortunately never got made. The storyboards were of course used for the D-Day section of Rise Of The Ogre.

Yall in The Now Now era were like “CN legally forbid Ace to fuck and also drink or swear or anything like that” when really all they are said to have told Jamie was “no prostitutes no drugs” which is like. Idk man if I were a brand or whatever being represented by a musician I feel like telling them “please do not engage in a level of illegal shit that’ll get you killed or imprisoned or at the very least be totally ruinous to us both in some form or another” is like genuinely not a huge ask lol.

Who's your favorite member of Gorillaz and why? :°
Girl (gender neutral) this is the Murdoc Enjoyer blog. He’s my favorite for the same reasons as everyone else: because I have a normal and uncomplicated relationship to my dad he’s a silly little guy :)
Fine here’s an actual answer:
Him being goofy is such a core element of his character that is frustrating when people don’t include it in their characterization. It’s what makes him so enjoyable rather than just being an asshole. It makes him more non-threatening— whether it’s because he’s full of shit, playing the fool on purpose, or him just naturally being a little goober. He’s a clown first and a musician second. In phase 1 Noodle says she likes that he makes her laugh and it could partially be her not taking him seriously, but also we see him trying to make people laugh all the time (you especially see it when Phil Cornwell is just improving and doesn’t have a strict script).
It makes it fully believable people would like him. Funny guys win. It makes people let their guard down, and it makes it easy to control how people see you.
He’s also motivated by a desperate need for control— keeping 2D close, spinning lie after lie to maintain attention and keep his true self nebulous, his fear of his bandmates leaving him behind. And it drives him whether he wants to be loved or feared. His ego crumbles any time that control is threatened and it makes him willing to change tactics to maintain it— so he’ll start yelling and throwing things *or* cry at your feet if one of those will get him what he wants.
What also sets him apart from other “asshole man” characters is that he’s not really behooved to prove his masculinity. Like obviously him wearing thongs and wanting to be strung up by a dominatrix and doing drag (him doing queer shit, essentially) is meant to be funny but also. I just like that he’s not ashamed of those things. He’s not in the closet, not out of the closet, but a secret third thing: “what’s it to ya.”
TLDR he’s everything to me. He’s a short king, he’s bisexual, he’s a clown, he’s utterly tragic, it’s entirely his fault, he’s a butch lesbian, he’s wet and pathetic, he’s babygirl, he’s a beast, he’s a catboy, he’s a deadbeat dad, he’s Mommie Dearest, he’s a drag king, he’s a whore, he’s the worst, he’s so deep, his story is mostly stupid, he’s mediocre, he’s exceptional, etc.

actually it's funny to me that like... Gorillaz isn't even the first time Ace was said to be an actor, like Cezulian pointed out he was seen acting in Film Flam and like he's ALWAYS been a bit of an actor... not in the "ppg is all an act" sense but in the "he changes his entire demeanor when he's trying to manipulate somebody" way. he's a good liar, is the thing. and in the like, CN City way, Ace has been shown to sit with the devil from cow and chicken iirc in one bumper... so there's like the "CN City" way of acting and then the "manipulative in universe" way and then Gorillaz claims the "it was all fake" way... then in the cw script he's like, a show manager slash camera man... I dunno

I came up with this angsty storyline about Imani and 4town while listening to el mañana by gorillaz lol
So basically (btw the cabin is canon in my Dr but not this angsty storyline)
In my Dr, I scripted we go to a cabin away from the fame for the whole month of December. But my story is basically, Imani, Aaron T, and Aaron Z figuring out their feelings for each other, there’s some angsty stuff imo and I’ll try not to get out of character
But ya :)
Imani and Aaron T are an established couple already, so their thoughts and feelings about Aaron Z warrant some angst for each other, y’know.
I already started writing, but would u guys like it??

Hello! I began a Scott Pilgrim thing!
Up above are the designs for the alternate versions of Scott and Ramona (Scout and Ita(lica))
I currently have 70 or so pages of this done and unlike the Gorillaz AU does not seem to be stopping (probably because I had a better base this time). (I am also still attached to that AU I just need more skill and time that I have to pull it off)
I will continue to chip away at the script and after that probably start storyboarding after, if I somehow pull off either contacting Bryan Lee O Mally (or someone else who can get this officially made) or manage to crowdfund something like this (like in like 3-5 years when I’m in my 20’s) It’s going to be about the same length of Takes Off and would extend on that shows premise.
Basically, it’s giving the takes off treatment of Ramona to Scott and the other characters who could deal with an extra dollop of depth. Obviously the new versions of the characters will be lovingly written and will be handled with care, but overall I wanted to give Scott’s autistic butt some love and have him earn his newfound likeability.

Favourite colour and why? Dark blue or green I’d say. Green because pretty much every shade is beautiful & it reminds me of wood walks, nature, and pretty eyes. Blue has always been my favourite, not really sure why - suppose my middle name sort-of links (Jay, like the bird) but also my Uni is down south so I’m lucky enough to see the sea quite a bit :)
Five comfort movies: Bunny & the Bull, Shaun of the Dead, Bill, The World’s End & Slaughterhouse Rulez
Favourite season and why? Gotta be Autumn. I like crunchy leaves and the colours. It’s the perfect temperature mostly without being freezing or boiling - I can wear my favourite clothes &, honestly, still love Spooky Season :)
Favourite book(s): Dracula by Bram Stoker, Lanny by Max Porter, Carmilla by J.Sheridan LeFanu (to name a few)
favourite aesthetic(s)and why? I believe it’s called ‘fairy grunge’ or the sort of grung-y/ whimsical vibes that cross over whimsigoth and ‘hippie’ - I just like the grounded/nonchalant aesthetic I suppose - suits my lifestyle the most :)
Favourite genre and why? Gotta be horror-comedy, I get a gore fix without the fear of media taking itself too seriously haha. Must admit it’s very hit and miss though - there’s always the fear of ‘shock value’ substituting a good script/ loosening production value with the facade of a ‘it’s supposed to be bad’. THAT BEING SAID there have been a lot of gems that’ve come from this genre.
Favourite clothes style: as above really, any green/brown/grey/black earthy tones. I enjoy cardigans and jumpers, flow-y skirts or baggy jeans - depends where the gender meter is sitting, I suppose. Either way lots of jewellery, crystals, badges, hair product and big boots.
Favourite music genres: suppose it’s ‘indie’ in its vaguest terms, but honestly I switch from the most explicit, rowdy punk to Glen Miller and Frank Sinatra, so
Favourite artists: Gorillaz, Dazey & the Scouts, Madness, The Cure, X-Ray Spex, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Beatles, The Specials, Pavement (etc)

Care language you give: honesty it depends, people I’m close with physical touch - but mostly words of affirmation/ acts of service - I spend so long choosing gifts. Like, I might not know the protocol to comfort you but best believe if your sad I’ll write you a fancy letter in the post with trinkets and a wax stamp haha.

What does your ideal family look like to you? It’s me, my boyfriend and whoever else we may meet down the line. Also cats, lots of cats.
Dream future: I’ve finished uni & so has Tommy, I’m recovered and have all the tattoos, piercings, crystals I’ve wanted to get. We live down the south in an Italian-style country house on a hill away from the main village with all our partners & pets. It’s covered in ivy, fairy lights and colours and a huge porch that we can all sit on together with a campfire. We’ve got a garden too full of veg and flowers and herbs.
Dream place to visit: my mate James always fancied Iceland so that’s got me thinking I want to go too!
Favourite type of nature: great orange/brown crunchy woods with little streams & bridges.
Favourite habitat (eg jungle, desert, tundra etc): Forests!
How would you describe yourself in 4 words: Anxious, peaceable, affectionate & imaginative (not to, like, blow my own trumpet haha)
If you could be another thing on earth what would it be: the Trevi Fountain in Rome. I’d have people chucking money at me left, right, and centre!
Favourite type of weather: 15 degrees. Or if we’re being less specific the type of rain I can watch from the window & listen to.
If you could travel anywhere right now where would it be: Brighton. Haven’t been there in a while & I miss it!
Do you have any fears (serious or otherwise): jellyfish, dogs, the sea life centre (specifically the creepy fish in tanks at eye level), failure, abandonment, any form of flying thing be it tennis balls or wasps & colds.
Dream job: if all goes well screenwriting for TV/Film or directing - also teaching, but it would have to be A level or higher so I wouldn’t have to deal with kids who hate the subject. If that fails however I shall take up the position of ‘regional trinket’ anarchic grandpa with a van that looks like something straight out of tank girl.
Would you be a pirate/vampire/cowboy/astronaut/werewolf/wizard/witch/knight/cryptid and why? Guess I’d be a vampire so it’s slightly more socially acceptable to bite things.

Hiiii :D. How are you?
Anyways, about Foxy, does she have a traumatizing backstory or is she a lil happy bean all the time? (She is so relatable I cant).
And also, how does she handle the rouges when she has to? Do they have a good relationship or do they straight up hate eachother?

Yes, Foxy got a real tough life before becoming a vigilante. Grew up in a neglectful environment as a child and was forced to take care of herself. Her adulthood didn't get any better as she was kicked out of her collage and workplace which caused her to be left homeless on the streets of Gotham, where she witnessed the bad gang violence against the homeless population before eventually meeting Bruce Wayne- who will train her to become Gothams new protector.
Due to her rough past- she tries not to let it drag her down into the gutter and instead always tries to lighten the mood or distract herself. As a civilian she is a exhausted looking, dorky 25 year old who is extremely awkward and will blush hard if someone complements her a certain way. She loves jamming out to rock and will actively play her guitar whenever she gets a chance (With Muse, Queen and Gorillaz being her favs), if she's not doing that she's engineering her own devices.
Her persona once dawning the mask is completely different, she becomes confident and energetic, and never afraid to make a quip to or at some. She's a quick problem solver and is always fast on her feet when the time counts. Foxy is also extremely stubborn when it comes to her injuries, and will actively ignore the pain- even if one of her bones have been broken, she'll keep going.
How Foxy deals with the rogue's is the interesting part lol. When she first started out crime fighting, she'd do the usual "beat em up, lock em up" method, but once she first fought the Riddler who was the first rogue she encountered- she saw the years of trauma that he had from being beaten senseless and opted not to "pull a batman" on him or anyone (Except when the time calls for it in extreme circumstances). After that she uses violence against the rogue's as a last resort and instead uses a different approach to throw them off. Flirting. Or just being a menace in general. Foxy will use flirtatious banter to mess with the rogue's, some getting overly flustered, others getting absolutely enraged, or in the extremely rare cases- they flirt back and things take a turn.
I am still working on her story and how she interacts with characters. I've already got a good amount of her story scripted out. It's just the matter of figuring out what to do with it lol
I do have somewhat older drawings I've done with her interacting with people, I would show you but their on my tablet back home. Thinking now, I really need to remake Foxys character sheet lol

I could image a film working today, what with all the adult animated shows like Legend of Vox Machina, Hellova Boss, Bojack horseman, and Harley Quinn, and I think that's what netflix was going for, when I look at Jamie's storyboards for cracker island it feels way more grittier and scary, I'd love the idea that gorillaz was making a documentary(mockumentary in our world) but was hijacked by celebrity zombies (or in cracker islands case celebrity cult members) throughout the documentary, and its worked kinda like a parody of a found footage horror film (think of the Scooby Doo blair witch project parody but more mature). but unfortunately we'll never get a film because Netflix is just like any of capitalistic money hungry corporation that will gut there animation team for a quick buck. (i have the strong opinion that a gorillaz film or even an album with heavy lore hasn't worked not just because they had too many ideas but because of capitalism too)
the climate's better for a gorillaz animation now compared to 2003, yeah. and i completely forgot about the mockumentary angle though they were throwing out a ton of ideas... i'd like that more tbh! gorillaz has a good amount of b-horror film references it can work. though flashing cult imagery in relation to hollywood or celeb worship culture and making an entire movie about it requires a very fine line to be tread.
i do agree with your strong opinion. they have a lot of ideas and not a way to fund it properly, and asking tv or movie companies for help is a surefire way to get your project manhandled by corporations who want to dumb it down and make it palatable for everyone else. which, they avoided with dreamworks via backing out, and were saved i guess by netflix dropping them. i really do want to hear what the script was since they were in the middle of writing it and celebrity harvest got to have some tidbits dropped here and there. damon said cracker island was created after the cancellation so it wouldn't be a wild guess to say it was related to whatever new plot they had... certainly explains the story-book level information dumping. BUT that's me making shit up rn as i wait for info
and on the heavy lore-based album part, i don't know! it could work or it couldn't. i personally think they work better in an episodic style, maybe you can see how it railroads the characters if they go down a heavy lore style, it can be stifling for a band like gorillaz where the style changes when new ideas and world events crop up which is why i prefer the band stuff to lore stuff... of course referencing past events/history between the members is always great, but it gets kind of heavy handed when the crazy events of plastic beach occurred and its been like, 3 albums of 2D and murdoc having tension but bouncing back to being friends then suddenly referencing the kidnapping and shit, and since PB didn't feature much of noodle and russel talking they've stagnated since then. if they can avoid that kind of stuff i'd be all for it. (it's hard to sum up my feelings on recent stuff between 2D and murdoc because they like don't hang out as much anymore

I think folks really do overstate the importance of "lore" when it comes to Gorillaz stuff.
Like yeah, there are backstories and there are album concepts, but what you gotta remember is about 50% of the time, the story/art/music team are not on the same page & often following their own different scripts, which is why more often than not, the main "plot" comes out lop-sided/ends in a whimper.
#trust me you will give yourself less headaches if you accept that they don't quite prioritize story-telling (other than the broad strokes)#that said I respect Cass Browne trying his best to thread the needle of all the concepts that J&D had into something coherent#even if it did end up biting him in the ass#gorillaz#for reference I'm saying this as somebody who's been a fan since before Rise Of The Ogre was released
