Knuckles was tired.
Absurd. The guardian was not supposed to be tired. He was an unmoving stone pillar, standing tall and steady to protect his tribe’s legacy with fists raised and teeth bared. He did not fatigue or wear. He was an insurmountable cliff, an immobile boulder. No one could catch him off guard if his fists were always up, a veil between his eyes and theirs.
His island thrummed at his feet, a constant reminder of his duty, the everlasting heartbeats of his long-dead kin. Any untrained gaze that scoured his home would consider it deserted, an abandoned graveyard of a mysterious civilization, useless except for some ancient hidden power. Where they saw winding cave systems, Knuckles saw homes, painstakingly dug out by hand and carved with the care a sculptor gives to his masterpiece. Where they saw a ruined sanctum, he saw a sacred temple. Where they saw power, he saw honor, a responsibility that he was proud to bear on his shoulders, another heart beating next to his. The island was Galatea, and he could only hope to live up to the space Polyphemus had left.
(It didn’t matter that he couldn’t remember any names or faces other than Tikal’s, muffled with static. The centuries-old claw marks on the wall fit his own, and that was all that mattered.)
And so he stood, through rain and sleet and snow, through chaos and trickery and war. The moments his fingers dared slip were short-lived and he tossed them to the wind. The emerald was his, and he was its, thrumming under his fingertips. It was the only family he had, after all. His eyelids would not, could not droop, lest they fail his ancestors again.
As sea-blue eyes lazily traced his muscular figure, Knuckles absentmindedly wondered what happened when an unstoppable object met an immovable force.
“Bat girl.” His voice was low, monotone, revealing none of the irritation beginning to heat in his chest. Of course, he knew that small victory would be short lived–Rouge knew exactly how to press his buttons.
“Hello, beautiful,” She took a few seemingly careless steps forward, voice laced with rose petals. He knew how well the thorns were hidden. Her gaze wasn’t on him, but the emerald, shimmering in the fading light. Chaos, it was infuriating how the sun cast its rays on that muzzle, a blazing gold. “Been a while, hasn’t it?”
“What are you doing here?” It wasn’t a question, but a statement, an order for her to get out , to go back where she belonged, to the probably stolen apartment she shared with her team, working against or with him. It didn’t matter. Knuckles worked alone, and that was just how he liked it. He didn’t need anything or anyone else besides his emerald, but Rouge, thief as she was, kept insisting upon these stupid visits.
She ignored him, ascending toward his emerald step by step, that stupid determination in her eyes, and he growled in warning. “Answer me, Rouge.”
Silence. A raised eyebrow, a smirk.
“I’m warning you!” Knuckles barked, stepping forward and sliding between her and her target. That’s all she thinks of it. Just some shiny, magic rock for her to steal. She knows nothing of the Master Emerald, and she has the gall to try and take it anyway?
Tch. Unworthy.
“Just thought I’d drop by,” she purred, hand sitting lazily at her hip. “Really, Knuckles. Not very gentlemanly of you. What kind of host accosts his guest?”
“I didn’t invite you to my island,” he retorted, hands curled into fists. Chaos, that makeup was just begging to be smeared by a well-placed punch.
“I seem to recall Sonic inviting you off your island for Christmas.” Something shifted in her gaze, hardening as it clashed with his. “How long has it been since you left, anyway?”
“You’re the reason I can’t leave, Rouge!” Knuckles spat, taking a step back to be closer to his purpose. “Thieves like you. The Master Emerald is more important than me! What I want–” he paused, a strange, unfamiliar doubt pulsing like fire in his chest. He extinguished it without a second thought. “I have a duty . You don’t understand.”
“ Damn it, Knuckles!” Rouge’s voice was sharp, taking a dangerous step forward, her tone flipping on its head in an instant. “You have a duty, sure, but you’re not letting yourself have a life! No one’s seen you in months , and now you’re attacking me for–”
“ Can it ,” he snarled, raising his fists dangerously. She never knows when to give up, does she? “You’re not going to get my emerald, so leave! ”
“I don’t want your damn emerald!”
Knuckles paused, and suddenly he became aware of the bulkiness of his hands. He was clumsy. It was far too easy for his fists to break things.
(Whatever this was? He didn’t want to shatter it. It was new, different, wrong . And yet, he wanted.
…but what other option did he have?)
“I don’t give a shit about your emerald, you hear me?” Rouge was almost screaming now, voice raw and shaky, and Knuckles was stunned into silence, anger giving way to shock. She’s never acted like this before . Her palm collided with his chest, more of a shove than a slap. “I don’t care about your island, your duty, your treasure, whatever! ”
“Rouge–”
“I care about you , damn it!” She whipped around, but not quite fast enough for Knuckles to miss the tears brimming in her eyes. He found himself reaching toward her and stopped himself. Why do I…what is this? What is she getting at?
“...Why did you really come here, then?” His voice was low and quiet, almost ashamed. He felt himself splitting in two. “Was it just to yell at me?”
“No, you idiot.” Knuckles was awful at understanding undertones, but he couldn’t miss the barely-veiled regret in Rouge’s voice. “No one’s heard from you for ages. I couldn’t just…” she paused, trying to steady her voice. It didn’t work. “I needed to know you were ok.” A raw laugh left her throat, and surprisingly, Knuckles could sense the exact moment she slipped back into her act. “Have to make sure my emerald’s kept safe, y’know?”
“I thought you didn’t care about the emerald.”
“Tch.” Rouge didn’t answer, still facing away. Slowly, she knelt, gaze locked with the sunset. Her breathing was still shaky. “M’ just glad you’re alive.”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” Knuckles moved to sit beside her. It didn’t dawn on him that he was leaving a gap for her to dart to the emerald and claim it for herself, he had more pressing matters to worry about. “I’ve lived here my whole life, y’know. My tribe did it for generations. Nothing changed, I’ve just got a few more pesky thieves and evil overlords to worry about than my ancestors.”
“Doesn’t really seem like living to me,” Rouge muttered, hunching over and pressing her muzzle into her sleeves.
“It’s tradition. You wouldn’t understand.” No one does. No one seems to know the importance of remembering. If I am not here, what happens to my ancestors? My family? My memories? What happens to the emerald they guarded for generations?
“Please, go ahead and try to explain to me how spending your entire life standing in that same spot in front of that same shrine for hours at a time, barely even sleeping , is living. You sound miserable.”
“Of course you would think that,” Knuckles shot back. “You spend your time lying and deceiving others just to get what you want. You’re just a greedy treasure hunter.”
…So why do I care that you care about me?
“And what’s wrong with that, huh?” Rouge watched the clouds march across the sky, a spark of defiance in her voice. “I do whatever the hell I want. I’m not letting some stupid destiny or tradition control me. And what I want to do is make the world a better place. I don’t just steal treasure, you know. There’s a reason I work for G.U.N.”
“What does that have to do with my emerald?” Knuckles tilted his head. Damn you, Rouge. You’re always so confusing. “I don’t need anyone else. I work alone. I’m the last of the echidnas, it’s what I’m meant to do.”
“You don’t have to, though.”
“I want to.”
“ Please , Knuckles.” She turned to him for the first time in a few minutes, and her makeup was smeared. A strange warmth made itself known in his chest. “I could see the bags under your eyes from a mile away. Why don’t you just let yourself sleep, once in a while? Go visit your friends and family? This duty… it can’t be all consuming, can it?”
“Do you understand what the word ‘Guardian’ entails?” Knuckles’ voice was less sharp and more solemn. “I cannot leave my post, Rouge. I cannot fail my ancestors. The emerald is more important than what I want to do. What I need to do is keep it safe.”
“No.” Rouge poked him, almost gently, right in the center of his chest. He flinched but didn’t look away. “You’re more important than the emerald. Your life is more important than some tradition.”
“And this is why you’ll never understand.” Knuckles looked away. There should have been no conflict in his chest, no feeling of tearing or ripping his patchwork feelings at the seams.
And yet.
“You have no right to be mad at me for stealing jewels, then.” Rouge’s hand found his knee, barely brushing fur. He shuddered, but didn’t shove her away. “After all, if you’re willing to sacrifice your life for one measly emerald, you can’t scold me for valuing material possessions.”
“I’m not sacrificing my life, I’m just–”
“Then leave the damn island once and a while!” Rouge cut him off. “Come visit us so we know you haven’t rotted away! I–” she stopped. “ ...we miss you, Knuckles. Just check in sometimes, ok?”
Knuckles stayed silent, letting his thoughts simmer on his tongue. I… the emerald. What if I fail?
But Rouge’s eyes. She was crying . I did that to her.
…Why do I care?
It didn’t matter, Knuckles decided. He wouldn’t question why he cared, all he knew was that he couldn’t just stop without it cracking and fraying under his cumbersome hands. His ancestors would have wanted him to have a family, right?
“I… suppose.” He relented, sighing in defeat. Now that she mentioned it, his eyelids were heavy. Sometimes mountains had to rest weary bones.
Something in his mind told him he was making a mistake, that he would regret this. The genuine smile on Rouge’s face, unmasked for a mere millisecond, wiped all of his doubts away. She squeezed his hand–when had they started touching?–and looked away.
“Don’t make me regret this,” he added quickly, voice sharp. “This better not be one of your tricks, bat girl.”
(He made no move to remove his hand from hers.)
“I’m sure I’ll make it worth your while.” Rouge shifted closer, ever-teasing at whatever fragile bond they shared. “But for now? I suppose you can keep me in check. Wouldn’t want me finally claiming what’s mine, would I?”
“Of course not. What kind of guardian do you think I am?” Knuckles scoffed. Her breath was warm against his fur, and he let out a yawn, forehead resting against her shoulder. He’d forgotten how easy it was to let himself slip into unconsciousness.
Knuckles worked alone, and he was okay with that. It was his duty, after all, and he didn’t need anyone else. But sometimes, he supposed, it was fine to let himself rely on others. Life wasn’t just about necessities, after all.

A God's Grief
Sometimes in the server I get struck by inspiration and do some "live writing" - wherein I write a scene on the spot. No editing, no thinking too hard on it, just write and post. The muse takes me by the throat and drags me along.
I wrote this bit last night, after a discussion about how the ME would react if Knuckles were to die. Canon ME would probably not care too much, but in the server we play more with the idea that the ME is the one that created Knux, and is essentially his "mother" in the strictest sense of the word.

She felt the moment it happened. The tether the Master Emerald held with her guardian snapped, the chaos that flowed between them whipping back into itself like a cut rope.
She reached out, trying to reconnect. This happened every now and then--if the guardian was off planet or otherwise separated from this plane of reality. But the Emerald had always managed to feel the echidna in some way, however faint.
But now . . . there was nothing.
She reached.
She called.
She summoned.
. . .
She begged.
No response.
He was gone.
The guardian was just . . . gone.
The Emerald reached through time. Searched through space. She couldn't read his mind, no matter how much anyone (including him) thought she could. She didn't know exactly where he was, or what he was doing.
Or had been doing.
The gem knew about death. She had been witness to the extermination of the echidna centuries ago.
But that had been different. They had brought their deaths upon themselves. The Emerald's faithful guardian at the time, a young girl named Tikal, had fallen too. And that was . . . disappointing.
But that had been different.
He had been different.
He wasn't some mortal, born with their failings and subject to their influence. The Emerald had created him, built him for this sole purpose. He was not merely her guardian--he was as much her child as any flesh and blood parent.
But now he was gone.
And the Emerald hadn't expected it.
All her knowledge and ability to see all, and she didn't see this coming.
At first the atmosphere of Angel Island grew quiet. The chao came to a near stand still as the ripples of the sudden absence of the guardian reached them.
But then, the Master Emerald screamed.
A brilliant, blinding flash erupted from the gem, the shockwave shaking the island, sending each zone into turmoil. Lava overflowed, trickling over the edge of the floating island. The ice caps shattered, spraying shards of splintered ice for miles. The ground trembled, and fissures appeared, threatening to crack the island into pieces.
The Emerald grieved for her guardian.
And before long, that grief turned to anger.
To rage.
She reached for chaos energy, grabbing hold and sending it to the chao. The gentle, child-like creatures responsible for the downfall of the echidna so long ago would be the avatars for the revenge enacted over the death of the final one.
The Emerald funneled chaos energy into the chao, changing them, mutating them, using them to become the servants of her justice. Her anger toward the world that dared take her guardian, her child from her.
The chao cried and screamed as they changed, but she didn't care, didn't pay them any mind. They had a job and she did as she pleased.
Their bodies twisted and elongated. Claws sprouted from fingerless nubs, and great fangs pierced soft gum. Gentle eyes replaced with the sharp gaze of a predator.
She sent them to the surface, to the last place she had felt her guardian.
They had one order.
Return him.
Let nothing stand in their way.
Once her guardian was returned to her, she would rain down a punishment like no other on the world that dared take him from her.
This world would burn.
The chao moved as though this had been their form all along. They ripped through the metal creatures surrounding the fallen guardian. Tore them to shreds without pause.
The creatures the guardian interacted with stood nearby, and tried to intervene--the blue one stepping forward to block their path.
He spoke, meaningless sounds falling from his lips. The chao ignored him, heading for the guardian. The pink one tried to join the blue one in blocking them, and they merely pushed the two aside.
The monster chao surrounded the guardian. They looked down upon him, their black eyes shiny and reflecting the chao soul still within them.
After a few seconds of silence, one reached down and gently cradled the echidna's still body in its arms.
The others came closer, reaching out to brush their clawed fingers against his fur. They gently caressed his head, his muzzle, his hands.
A soft whine floated from the back of their throats, and they slowly turned to go back the way they'd come.
"Hey," the blue one called, reaching toward them. "Hold on . . . where are you . . ."
Before he could finish, the group disappeared in a flash of green light.
The monster chao reappeared before the Master Emerald. They gently laid the guardian's body at its base, and the gem hummed a soft chime, reaching out to her guardian.
He lay still. Not a twitch. Not a breath.
The Emerald reached out once more, pulling more chaos to her and letting it flow over his cooling body.
It had to work.
She was the Master Emerald, for crying out loud. She could manipulate time and matter and space and damnit, she would bring him back.
It had to work.
She tried. She tried so hard. And when it didn't work, when her guardian failed to stir, failed to breathe, failed to open his eyes and reach back for her, she sat silent for a long moment.
After that moment of silence, a sound filled the air. It was soft at first, a low tone, like whale song in the deepest depths of the ocean. It rippled through chaos, causing all sensitive beings to cover their ears out of reflex.
The Master Emerald cried.

New art for my AU!(I really have to name it)
So from my previous post we already know about Chaos and the reason he changed his form.
Now onto Knuckles and Tikal!
Knuckles is the last Echidna spared from the last affect of Chaos curse that inflicted the last of his people. His father Yunuen the previous Gaurdian begged Chaos to save his son.
Chaos grabted him his wish and took Knuckles into the Emerald while the Echidnas where wiped out keeping him asleep for many centuries. He woke up in the new world, a toddler with only a couple of words of where he was and why was there.
"Emerlad servant, protect and gaurd this Gem of Chaos till your last breath"
Knuckles didn't know how to read or write until Sonic and Tails showed up. Since Chaos dumped him there and went back to sleep in the emerald he had to raise himself.
He taught himself to hunt, keep clean, and to forage via the ancient art on the walls and in the abandoned homes. He's very much a homebody at the beginning before adventuring. He will pick up after his friends like a fretting hen if they leave a mess.
When he starts adventuring officially he started to hide the emerlad in creative ways around the island to make it hard to find. He wanted to be a the protector but he also wanted to see and experience the world he's been disconnected from.
This changes after Chaos and Tikal stuck around after SA1. They would gaurd in his stead giving him room to do what he wants and ends up developing a habit of picking up supernatural stray after a while. (The three Ghosts from the werehog short, Shahra from the Seven rings, some of the boom boo who took a liking to him. Ect)
Knuckles and Chaos have a tense relationship after its revealed he was the reason Knuckles is the only Echidna left. Chaos after realizing his wrongs of his past and stuck in a cycle of rage after SA1 and the Nicky Parlouzer arc does his best to repair his relationship with him with mixed success.
Tikal the Echidna Ghost
Tikal was very adventurous when she was alive often leaving the Empire to wander far. Her father preferred this as it kept her from interfering for his plans of expansion to the empire. Tikal hated war, and fighting for the sake of power.
When she was still alive she came across the temple of the Master Emerald where Chaos had been banished to. They had become friends and Tikal was helping Chaos come to terms with devouring his brother hoping that with time he can spit the other god out so that Gaia may accept him back.
This clearly did not happen that way after her father discovered the Emerald. He destroyed the land of the Chao and Chaos feeling betrayed by Tikal and enraged by the senseless deaths demanded Tikal as tribute and placed a curse upon the Echidnas.
They had tried to trick Chaos to save Tikal and take the Emerald causing Chaos tobecome perfect Chaos and destroying the empire along with a majority of its people. Gaia along with the Emerald gave Tikal the power to entrap Chaos in its gem prison at the price of her life and freedom.
She actually is an excellent fighter and would later mentor Knuckles when he wanted to expand his skills sets to protect his friends and the emerald better. Tikal had become very disillusioned after SA1 realizing her way of thinking merely perpetuated the cycle of pain by being so passive and is trying to change with some.....difficulties.
Tikal was actually semi aware the entire time as a warden to Chaos. Thus had watched her people die out via the curse as well as Knuckles being taken by Chaos and put to sleep until he deemed it safe enough to put him out. She would fall in and out of sleep and when she slept Chaos would awaken but both eternally chained.
Tikal is still a ghost and while she may not look like one she clearly is suffering the affects of being one. It wasn't as bad as when in the Emerald as the power of Chaos and the Master Emerald kept the it at bay for thousands of years. But now that she's spending more time outside she realizes how....monstrous she's becoming. It started as small things like her eyes dulling or turning red and yellow, her teeth becoming black. It changed to strange contortions, her thoughts become distorted or forgetting things about herself. She had become more violent too often emulating Chaos past rage when people don't wish to listen to her.
Tikal is most of afraid to loose her sense of self and takes to staying inside the emerald to prolong it as much as possible.

okay, so i was totally going to draw them as mobians and also not have ass-quality, but i accidentally doodled my human versions of them when rewatching euphoria (because they remind me of cassie and mckay) and sorta went, "might as well post it!
fun fact: knouge/knuxouge was my first sonic *fandom* ship (my first actual ship was espio and wave, but obviously when lil me made their way to the school library in kindergarten to google "espio's bird girl friend from the new sonic skateboard game" i didn't get any results, so i picked the awkward bisexual echidna and his gorgeous trans bisexual gf who was a huge part of my gay awakening)
anyways, i adore them. literally god tier ship, but i was recently made aware that the tumblr fandom typically hates it bc it's "problematic" ??? so now it's a rarepair, as if it wasn't a literal thing in sonic x 💀
some of y'all need to learn how to just say "i don't like a ship" instead of trying to cancel it, it's ok to not like things. i however, love knuckles and rouge together and they're one of my endgame ships (though i am a multishipper and like other ships with both characters too... they're obviously my fave)
TLDR: i'll die for them because they're a cute bickering married couple who argue all the time, and then peacefully nap by the master emerald (and i love them for it) 🥰

• Carey is retiring as well and they ended this film in a way that he can be either written out completely or have a very minor role in the next film. There wasn’t really any reason to focus on Stone listening to the agents or even the fact that he was there if they didn’t have plans for him.

• One last thing. When Eggman’s chasing Sonic in the Death Egg Robot, he mentions he’ll conquer Earth, the Universe, and the multiverse. You can see where this is heading
• I didn’t spot this the first time round but when I went with my friends, me and my other kind-of-interested-in-StH friend both said Blaze in sync. They’re a Blaze enthusiast so this was a big topic of conversation after the film.
• okay so 1. There was literally no need to mention the multiverse at all unless they planned to do something with it. 2. I know there’s Scourge but we’re legally not allowed to talk about him and anything from Archie is not coming back.
• obviously it’s a jab at Blaze, who we know is essentially a flipped version of Sonic minus the colour palette. However this is a one-off mention and will probably not have anything come of it for a while
• however on the 0.00001% this is about Sonic Prime I will shit myself
• one thing my friend suggested was a Silver/Blaze spinoff show rather than a movie, since, as they described the duo, they come as a package deal. Which is true they generally do seem to show up in the same places at the same time. We both agreed that time travel probably won’t happen in the SCU, so chucking Silver in an AU could be an option. Or you could do an 06 and have Blaze go to Silver’s planet (yes planet since we ruled out time travel for now). Anyway this idea is genius paramount take notes.
• i lied about that being the last thing I wanna talk about the Chaos Emerald theory rq. Okay so we can get rid of the part about them being living chaos emeralds but notice how in the flashbacks they showed seven echidnas, like a council, each with one emerald. Exactly. If chaos emerald theory real and true I reckon they’ll go with assigning each emerald to a character. I don’t remember which set of emerald colours they used in the movie (I think it was the current selection but it might have been the S2 one. If someone knows please tell me).

Enerjak Reborn intermission: Who the hell is Enerjak?
Before we move on to the second half of the fun, thrilling, and exciting Enerjak Reborn arc, I think it’s a good idea to pause and take a look back at where we came from. Reading this arc, you may be asking yourself: where’d this Enerjak guy come from? It’s been over six years since I covered the comics featuring the original Enerjak, after all (and I tended to skim over stuff a lot more back then)
So here’s a crash course in Archie’s original nemesis for Knuckles. The big question today is... did the original Enerjak ever DO anything?
As has been established, the original Enerjak was a powered up form Dimitri took on. Even if you’re not following all this too closely, you’ll probably recognize Dimitri as the floating cyborg echidna head. He’s pretty memorable in that form
In his youth, though, Dimitri was a normal echidna scientist working alongside his brother Edmund on Angel Island. Together, the two of them found the legendary Zoot Chute
This, of course, led them to the chamber of the twelve Chaos Emeralds (yes, twelve--the lore was different back then) that were holding Angel Island up in the air. It had been generations since the echidnas had Brexited their capital city into the sky to dodge the White Comet, and they figured, hey, maybe we should land this thing. And so Edmund and Dimitri set out to slowly syphon away the power of the Emeralds to do just that, gently lowering the floating landmass back into the crater it had left behind. A reasonable idea!
Except then their proposal to land Angel Island was denied, so Dimitri got pissed and stole the Chaos Syphon to do it anyway. But then the machine went HAYWIRE and he absorbed the energy himself and it flipped his morality switch from good to EVIL!!!
Boy, that was sudden!
From there Dimitri’s plan was to enslave everyone on Angel Island and make them turn the whole island into one big airship, from which Dimitri would subjugate the surface world
(No, the pirate motif isn’t an artist taking liberties with the script--Ken drew these lore dump backup stories himself)
Boy, this guy sure does have big plans! And he’s got the power to back it up, too, since he absorbed eleven whole Chaos Emer--oh, whoops, the fire ants chewed through the base of his spooky tower and he was immediately crushed by rocks before he could do literally anything else with his new power
From here, Edmund and his allies “renounced technology” and “destroyed their city” (not really, but that’s how the story goes). His descendants would become the Brotherhood of Guardians, eventually including Locke and Knuckles. This part of the lore dump gave me some of my favorite panels. Meanwhile, Dimitri’s side of the family sought revenge and went full techno-fascist, forming the Dark Legion
Fast forward a few hundred years to the events of the three-issue Knuckles miniseries, and Dimitri's HP finally recharges and he manages to escape from the rubble, ready for his first face-off with Knuckles! Except he’s no longer just Dimitri... he’s apparently now Enerjak!
While the echidna lore dump stories published literally immediately before this miniseries that Ken drew himself depicted Dimitri as simply turning all green and glowy in his powered up state, the art in the recap pages of this miniseries seems to retcon the story and say that he had actually turned into Enerjak. I’m not sure why you wouldn’t just use Enerjak in the original stories to set the persona up more instead of just having Dimitri turn green. Here Archimedes also refers to Enerjak as “the great evil of legend” even though no one is supposed to know about Dimitri’s Enerjak persona yet. Actually, this little point of confusion was expanded upon by Ian, which is why in his version of the canon Enerjak is an entity that multiple people can become, rather than just a supervillain persona for Dimitri. Anyway!
In this first confrontation, Enerjak displayed a few of the signature moves Knuckles has been using in the Enerjak Reborn arc. He’s able to unleash blasts of Chaos energy, freeze his opponents in place, and teleport them elsewhere. He uses this to make short work of the Chaotix and teleport Knuckles and Archimedes out to die in the desert of Sandopolis Zone
From there, Enerjak made a new evil citadel (guy just LOVES making evil citadels), this time made to resemble Echidnaopolis... except evil. He christened it “Nekronopolis.” He also, like... made some robots for Knuckles to fight, apparently based on robots they used to have in Echidnaopolis? Okay
In their final confrontation of the miniseries, Enerjak mind controls the Chaotix to make them fight Knuckles. He then starts going on and on about his unlimited power while struggling to kill a teenager, only to be undone when--surprise!--the fire ants show up and sabotage his fortress again. This time, though, they launch him into space with help from Locke instead of just making the citadel collapse on top of him. Oh, and then his evil fortress disappears. He leaves no mark on the status quo of the series in his first appearance aside from adding one more guy to the list of characters Knuckles has fought
Later, in issue #7 of the full Knuckles series, Enerjak is summoned back to Angel Island and meets the Dark Legion. Since he’s their beloved Dimitri, he immediately becomes their new leader. And so Enerjak gets his rematch with Knuckles. This time he uses new tricks like making himself giant and teleporting himself and Knuckles to various inhospitable locations like the moon. (Admittedly, the moon thing is cool.)
Eventually he gets bored toying with Knuckles, though, and he decides to just disintegrate him
BUT Knuckles is immediately saved by God the Ancient Walkers, who won’t allow one of their Chosen Ones to die so easily. So he comes back right away
Enerjak then leads the Dark Legion on an all-out assault on Echidnaopolis. He doesn’t really do much even though he could probably singlehandedly disintegrate the entire Echidnaopolis defense force with the snap of his fingers
And then Mammoth fucking Mogul shows up and drains him of all his power with the Sword of Acorns and turns him into a prune
No, Knuckles wasn’t even the one who beat his supposed nemesis in either fight
And that’s it for Enerjak! No, really! He appears in two story arcs for a total of six issues, and that’s it. He’s just regular old Dimitri from this point forward, eventually becoming a cyborg and then a head. He has no powers and is just a fascist
As with just about every other element of Ken’s Knuckles comics, Enerjak was all hype and no substance. Dimitri is an important figure in The Lore, but as Enerjak he doesn’t actually do anything with his unlimited power that has any lasting impact on the story whatsoever. He just taunts Knuckles and then gets his power slurped out by a mid-tier villain. It’s clear that Ken wanted to paint this as Dimitri repeatedly suffering for his hubris, but it sure would’ve been nice if he actually did anything before he loses each time. Like, honestly? If you took the Enerjak persona out of the story entirely and instead just had the Dark Legion bring back regular old Dimitri with their technology, very little about the overarching story would change. He also has absolutely zero nuance as a character, going from a well-intentioned if headstrong scientist to a world-conquering tyrant demigod to the leader of the techno-fascists at the drop of a hat when the story requires it
Needless to say, it is VERY SATISFYING to have Knuckles become a version of Enerjak with way more nuance and to see him actually do stuff with that power in Ian’s run. Not just cool fighting moves (although he has those!), but also stuff that will have a lasting impact on the series

Cataclysm of the Heart - Epilogue
She’d waited so long to hear those words fall from his perfect lips. She’d never even stopped to consider that they might not be sincere.
They were going to die. He’d been sure of it. It had only been meant as a comfort. Something to keep a smile on her face as their end loomed.
Neither of them had counted on being rescued.
Start from the beginning
… xxx …
Sonic rushed around the small clearing, his vision as clear as crystal as he rushed around in what others might have considered to be dizzying circles. Every now and then he glanced out towards the underbrush of overgrown trees, looking out for any signs of movement beyond.
"Why aren't they here yet?" he whined, coming to stop with a childish pout as he turned towards Amy. "It's almost noon."
The pink hedgehog sat perched delicately on a rock in the middle of the clearing. An amused smile played about her lips but otherwise she looked completely unbothered by her boyfriend's ridiculous antics. "It's still early Sonic."
"It's not that early," he countered, breaking into a run again. He sped up until he was a nothing but a blue blur, relishing the feel of the wind on his skin, the ground pounding beneath his feet.
"You know Sonic, most people like to be on time for things," Amy said, rolling her eyes endearingly. She startled as he came to an abrupt stop just inches away from her, almost toppling off the rock if not for a pair of strong arms circling her waist.
Sonic leaned in, closing the remaining distance between them as he brushed his nose against hers. "I'm not most people."
"I guess you're not," Amy replied, trailing a hand along his jaw.
Sonic's brows dipped into a frown. "You guess? That doesn't sound very reassuring Ames."
Amy bit her bottom lip but before she could say anything more, the sound of shuffling drew Sonic's attention behind him. He turned to see the leaves shifting precariously at the edge of the clearing. The pink hedgehog stood up to join him, her warm fingers entangling with his as they both waited to see who would emerge first.
"Tails," Sonic shouted happily, his face breaking into a grin at his younger brother's arrival.
"Hey Sonic and Amy," the fox said with a small wave. Beside him, Amy smiled happily as she returned the gesture, giving Sonic's hand a gentle squeeze as she did so.
"Have you found them?" someone called out in the distance.
"Yeah, I found them. They're over here!" Tails called over his shoulder as he headed towards the two hedgehogs. As his brother came to a stop in front of him, Sonic couldn't help but marvel at what a difference a year could make.
Sonic had always been older and taller than Tails, but sometime during the past year he'd lost the second advantage. Tails now stood a whole head taller than him and the blue hedgehog couldn't help but feel a rush of sadness that his little brother wasn't so little anymore.
Behind the boy, the leaves shifted again and Sonic's grin only widened as Knuckles, Rouge and Cream appeared.
"It's been a while, huh," Tails said softly, drawing Sonic's attention away from the others by holding out his hand and producing two single roses. "A whole year actually. Three hundred and sixty-five days and still …" The boy's eyes glistened as he clenched his fist around the stem of the flowers tightly. "I … I miss you every god damned day."
"Tails," Cream called out gently, hesitating to join him. Tails shook his head and took a deep breath. He leaned down and placed the two roses on the ground by Amy's feet, clenching his jaw as he stood and took a step back.
Sonic took a shuddery breath as his little brother covered his face with his hands, tears escaping through his fingers. He needed to be stronger than this. He had to be, he reminded himself as Cream abandoned the others in favour of pulling Tails into a tight embrace and placing a comforting kiss against his shoulder.
"When did that happen?" Sonic said curiously, doing everything he could to keep his spirits up and ignore the lump in his throat. He hissed in pain as Amy shoved her elbow into his side, rubbing the tender skin with a wounded expression.
"That was always going to happen," she whispered, a proud glow lighting up her eyes as Tails held onto the younger rabbit tightly. "You were just moving too fast to see it." Sonic spared his girl a single glance before looking away with a non-committal shrug. Knowing Amy, she was about half a second away from tears and if she started crying, then he would be a goner too.
Whilst Cream held Tails, Knuckles took the opportunity to step forwards. He crouched down on the ground, his face blank and stoic as he placed his own roses down beside the ones from Tails. "Everyone's always thinking of you both. All the time. I just …" The echidna shook his head, working his jaw as he tried to find the words he needed. "I just wish it didn't have to be like this."
He bowed his head deeply, hiding his face from view as he stood and stepped away. Amy made a noise of protest and Sonic stepped closer to her to remind her he was there if she needed him. He wanted to do more, wanted to hold her and tell her everything was fine. But if the past year had taught him anything, it was that the girl he loved needed time to feel her emotions in the moment.
They would have an eternity to comfort each other later.
"Alright kiddos," Rouge said as she walked towards the centre of the clearing. "I don't think sappy words are much use to anyone, so I'll keep this short." She glanced at the flowers in her hands, seeming to consider something before proceeding to rip off the petals.
Knuckles watched on in alarm but made no move to stop the bat as she collected all the petals in her palms and flung the empty stems into the trees surrounding them.
"I hate that I even have to say this, but I hope that you're both happy wherever you are." As she spoke, Rouge upturned her hands and the petals showered to the ground at Sonic and Amy's feet, studding the dirt like bright gems.
"Cream," the bat said, swiping at her eyes hastily. The rabbit turned at her name, reaching for Tails' hand as she led him back to the centre of the clearing beside Rouge. Knuckles joined them, the four of them linking hands in solidarity.
"We don't really know what became of Eggman, but we do know that thanks to the both of you, we'll be ready if he ever shows his face again. We all miss you terribly … Mr Sonic, Miss Amy, we hope you two like it out here."
Their friends had outdone themselves. The clearing they'd found for them was wild and free like Sonic and natural and effortlessly beautiful like Amy. It was perfect in every way that mattered.
"We do," Sonic replied, knowing that his friends couldn't hear him but needing to say it regardless. He smiled at Amy, using his thumb to swipe away the stray tears that had found their way onto her cheeks with a frown.
"I'm pretty sure we promised no crying," he whispered lightly, earning a playful shove from the girl beside him as their friends began to say their goodbyes and take their leave. Tails was at the rear of the group, and as he reached the edge of the clearing he paused and took a deep breath.
He turned back towards the single large rock that stood sentry in the middle of the clearing, the look of anguish and hurt in his clear blue eyes a mirror to the pain in Sonic's chest. He stared helplessly at his brother, and for a moment Sonic was convinced that Tails could see him standing there, that there was a flicker of recognition in his gaze.
But then the fox blinked, and the moment passed. Tails turned away and headed after the others, leaving Sonic with an all-encompassing sinking feeling in his heart, a reminder of why he'd stopped visiting.
With a heavy sigh, Sonic turned around to face the stone Amy had been perched on earlier. He fell to his knees, reaching out to run his fingers against the engraving of their names etched into the rock.
It hurt too much to see his brother live his life without him. It hurt too much to have to leave every time. It hurt too much to watch his brother slowly build a life without him. To watch him forget him, little by little.
"It's crazy, isn't it …" Amy said, dropping to the ground beside him. "The world turns, and life goes on whether or not we're around to live it or not."
Sonic nodded solemnly. Mobius had grieved for its fallen heroes, but it too would move on. To a day when the two hedgehogs who lost their lives for the world were nothing but a distant memory. But their friends, they would never let the world fall to ruin and that thought alone gave Sonic the peace he needed.
Both he and Amy were silent for a time, letting the other feel their pain alone. They would share it later and lessen the burden, but for now it was theirs alone to carry.
"Alright, that's enough sulking," Sonic said after a while, standing and nudging the pink hedgehog beside him. "We got to see our friends, so today is a good day." Amy nodded in agreement, but no matter how she tried to hide it, Sonic could still see the tell-tale sheen of tears in her eyes.
"I'm so happy they all came. I missed them so much."
"Me too. Although, I do kind of wish at least one of them had been considerate enough to bring chilli dogs."
"Sonic!" Amy cried, slightly scandalised by his blasé attitude.
"You know I'm kidding, and you love me for it," Sonic said with a cocky smirk before a sudden thought wiped it clean away. "Wait. You do love me … right?" he asked, sounding unsure.
A grin spread across the pink hedgehog's face.
"Why don't you catch me and find out?" she said, taking a teasing step backwards, an unfaltering smile on her face. She shrieked as Sonic threw himself at her, wrapping her up in his arms so quickly that she didn't have a hope of outrunning him.
"That's funny … I don't … see … you running … anywhere," he said between pressing kisses to any part of her he could reach. He paused as he reached her lips. "So … do you love me or not?"
"I've always loved you silly hedgehog, why would now be any different? But … do you love me?" she asked quietly, sounding almost as if she was afraid of the answer.
Sonic and Amy had been with one another this entire past year. Together they'd figured out the ins and outs of their new lives, the freedoms and restrictions. They were ghosts with heavy hearts and broken love in their souls, and it had taken some time, but they'd put each other back together piece by piece.
Yet over the course of the year, Amy had never once tried to define what they were to each other. They just were, and Sonic was a little surprised to only realise that fact now. Had she not mentioned it to keep from scaring him away when they were almost all they had left? The thought left a bad taste in his mouth.
"I think you already know the answer to that question," Sonic said pressing a quick kiss against her nose. "But in case there was still any doubt, then yes … you do still owe me that chilli dog date you promised me a year ago."
He chuckled at Amy's glare, dodging her half-hearted attack effortlessly by pulling her closer to him.
"Sonic? Please be serious for a second."
Sonic rested his hand against Amy's jaw, guiding her to look at him full on. Her face was unguarded and vulnerable, and the lost look in her eyes brought him back to the moment. "Alright fine. Ask me again."
Amy looked reluctant but asked again anyway. "Sonic, do you love me?"
He leaned forwards to brush back the hair from her face and meet her gaze head on. "Of course I do Amy. I don't think I could ever explain how much even if we had all the time in the world … which we kinda do actually. I love you Amy Rose. I will always love you."
Amy's eyes lit up at his words and the full force of her smile, the sheer joy it beheld, did him in. It was the type that shone like a beam of sunlight, caressing your soul until it knew no other equal. There was no resisting her, not anymore. He'd known it for quite some time now, but he still chuckled to himself wondering how he could ever have believed otherwise.
He might have been born touched by the gift of speed, but Amy was one force of nature he could never outrun, only grow into. Sonic let his lips fall into hers, his hands tangling in her quills as he let his kiss linger, long and sweet.
Alone, the two of them were powerful and constant, pushing and pulling at each other in their bid to come out on top.
But together?
Together they were cataclysmic.

Sonic Villains: Sweet or Shite? - Part 14: SCOURGE

Oh, hello there! My name's Lutrudis, pleased to meet you. Judging from that look of surprise on your face however, it's evident that you weren't looking for ME per say... What's that? You want to know what this is? Right, of course, my apologies.
Well, this is a mini-series belonging to... ahem, my creator, in which he goes into slightly more detail about his thoughts on the villains in Sonic's history, and why he thinks they either work well, or fall flat (or somewhere in-between). Usually he gives his stance on their designs, their personalities, and what they had to show for themselves in the game(s) they featured in. He also stresses that these are just his own personal thoughts, and that whether you agree or disagree, you're free to share your own thoughts and opinions.
Unfortunately, as you may have gathered, it seems he's a bit occupied for today, and is thus unable to do a review... is what I WOULD be saying if he didn't let me cover for him! That's right boys and girls, I'll be filling in for him today, by doing a little review of my own! Please forgive me if I prattle on for extended periods, but I sincerely hope my efforts in assessing the Wrong'un of the Week are of the utmost quality. Truth be told, it's kind of nerve-wracking, but I'm happy to give it my all for you guys. ❤️
So then, let's carry on with the show, shall we? Welcome to a new edition of Sweet or... Sour. Welcome to Sweet or Sour. Yes indeed, heh heh... (Is the creator's language normally this gratuitous? I hope Cream hasn't seen his posts...)
Anyhow, for today's review... well, this is quite interesting. Normally the creator prefers to keep his reviews focused on game-centric villains, but I guess he made an exception with this one. Today, we'll be directing our attention to a notorious copycat of our blue hero in the Archie continuity, and legendary connoisseur of 70's fashion: Scourge the Hedgehog.
The Gist: Once upon a time, in the land of comics, there was a world known by all as Mobius. But there was also a parallel dimension called Anti-Mobius, or as it would later become known as, Moebius... one E makes all the difference, apparently. Anyway, in this dimension, everyone and everything that existed in Mobius had an identical equivalent in Anti-Mobius, but things operated a bit differently, in the sense that they were largely the opposite of what we were familiar with.
Putting aside the rather disturbing implication that this world might not have had any real will or independence if it existed purely to do the opposite of what Mobius did, this meant that it had a Sonic the Hedgehog of its very own, as well as a father to that Sonic. Sadly though, this Sonic's father was not that kind to him. In fact, he was said to be a rather poor excuse for a father, as evidenced by how he didn't give his son enough attention, and... oh, that's it.
How awful.
I'd say his choice of attire is the real crime presented here.
Anti-Mobius in its original form experienced a period of Great Peace, but alas, it was not to last. It soon became a shadow of its former glory, which seemed prophetic in hindsight, as it was by this time that this world's Sonic the Hedgehog - Evil Sonic - murdered his own father in cold blood, and then threw his world's incarnation of King Maximilian Acorn into the Zone of Silence. He quickly became a dictator to the people of Anti-Mobius, with his only immediate opposition coming in the form of the kindhearted counterpart to Dr. Ivo Robotnik... or should that be Dr. Julian Robotnik, in this continuity...? Hmm, I suppose it doesn't matter anymore...
Naturally, the laws of the universe saw fit to correct this wrong. Just as water is wet, and fire is hot, Sonic gives evildoers a right kicking. And lo and behold, our magnificent hero did eventually meet his evil duplicate. The two were evenly matched in speed, but the good-natured Sonic triumphed regardless, possibly because he had more wittiness on his person.

Evil Sonic later brought along the rest of his gang to aid him, who predictably mirrored Sonic's own band of Freedom Fighters. They were just as much of a match for our heroes, which is a polite way of saying they weren't. You really shouldn't expect anything exquisite when they looked like this.
Maybe you should call your group something else then...
These parlor games went on for a while, with the status quo never truly changing. But then, after one final showdown with Sonic, the evil Robotnik of Mobius kicked the bucket, which among other things, inspired ANOTHER Robotnik to fill the void. This Robo-Robotnik took Evil Sonic along with him to commit many acts of dastardly intent, an act of generosity that proved to be tragically undermined by Evil Sonic getting caught and trapped by different people time and time again, to the point where even his old gang had long replaced him with a new leader. He did go on to escape the grasp of one Zonic the Zone Cop... only to later get arrested again by the same guy. So far, so adorably incompetent, right?
Still, he did bust out once more, and he proceeded to turn the overall universe into a glorified soap drama by pulling the moves on numerous ladies in Mobius, which in true Evil Sonic style, achieved precisely nothing of merit. Even after he briefly teamed up with Rouge the Bat, his luck persisted in not manifesting. But things were about to get even worse... for us. On a meta level, if you know what I mean.
After one final botched attempt at pointless thievery, with the Master Emerald being the prime target in this particular case, Evil Sonic's attempt to gain himself a super form was halted midway with great force by none other than Locke, the notorious father and attempted microwave murderer of Knuckles the Echidna. Rather than kill him however, all this did was change his fur to green, and leave him with some hardcore scars.
He promptly renamed himself Scourge. Because he's a real SCOURGE to good ideas, har har.
New kid in town, do not steal.
With his first act of villainy as a new man tattering to pieces due to foolishly invoking the wrath of Shadow the Hedgehog, he soon crossed paths with Dr. Finitevus, an albino echidna who otherwise looked exactly like Knuckles (good heavens, how many of these can one muster?), and spent some time on his side by aiding a new gang of lovely gentlemen called the Destructix. Together, these functioning psychopaths committed more mindless evil.
He also managed to swoon over Fiona Fox to his side, a miraculous modicum of success considering you need some sort of charm to be able to do that, of which Scourge has shown nil. I'm hardly an expert on dishing out romantic advice, but I'm willing to bet there's plenty of superior fish in the sea, Fiona...
How about “Oh my god, did I seriously die to THESE losers?”
Eventually, Scourge and Fiona broke away from Finitevus' allegiance after the deadly and boring Enerjak was unleashed on Mobius. He returned to Anti-Mobius, and it turned out that any repairs made since the last time he was king didn't amount to anything substantial, because he went and conquered the entire land all over again. Rechristening his old gang as the Suppression Squad, he continued Being Evil™ some more, until the aforementioned Suppression Squad betrayed him for constantly being abhorrent to them, which led to him being stuck with Rosy the Rascal for a while, yet another shameful derivative of a close friend.
In his last days, at long last, he finally achieved a super form with the power of an Anarchy Beryl... only to get soundly thrashed once again, get thrown in prison, and then just when it seemed he'd be back in business, he got wiped out by the Genesis Wave. Tch, Mondays, am I right?
As you can tell from my words alone, let alone in an extremely abridged format, he did a fair amount over the years... and yet at the same time, when you really think about it, he ultimately did so very little.
Oh, and there was also a Metal Scourge at one point. I'm aware that the man who made him has never been all there in the head, but I still find myself questioning why he saw fit to go through with this nonsense.
I shouldn't need to say this, but that's a disgrace to the hostile Eggman robot that I know and detest.
The Design: Well, he started off as a Sonic, so it's to be expected that he'd look exactly like the lovable goof. Since this was ~Evil~ Sonic though, he was determined to remind us at all times that Grease was in fact the word.
~You're the one I don't want, you're not the one for, no-ho-ho, honey~
Then he turned green, and... yeah, he turned green. All I can say, really.
Please excuse me, I'm utterly beside myself with amazement.
It doesn't quite strike the imaginative chords, needless to say. And neither does his super state, which... I'm sorry, it's not normally my cup of tea to chide others for their appearance, but just look at this tripe for a moment.
No, I don't think I will.
When you combine his already ridiculous self with black eyes and a tiara... what exactly is the intent here? Am I supposed to be intimidated by this display?
Keep this between us if you can, but personally, I'm more intimidated by staircases than I am by this fiend.
The Personality: You would think that since a Sonic is a Sonic, Scourge would share a lot of his personality with our Sonic. And that is true... in the most superficial sense possible.
Sure, he's jovial, cocky, and prone to moments of overconfidence, which is enough to sound very familiar to us on paper. Beyond that however, that's all they really have in common beside their appearance. In every other category, you could argue that Scourge is the exact opposite of Sonic.
For instance, whereas Sonic is supremely loyal to his friends (trust me, I’m grateful to know!), Scourge treats his gang like fetid garbage, and that's when he's not outright abandoning them, neglecting them, and putting them in danger. Likewise, whereas Sonic is a blue bundle of bravery no matter the odds, Scourge is a poor little chicken when the going gets tough, despite all his ramblings about being Sonic's full potential.
This means that for all the acclaim he receives as Sonic's evil doppelganger... he shares very few similarities with who he's replicating. He's barely any different from all the other ruffians that Sonic faces, so what point is there to him being a Sonic at all? If he had a different name and design entirely, what would honestly be lost in translation?
But then, maybe he would just become Mephiles the Dark instead.
Or Mimic the Octopus instead.
Or Eggman Nega instead.
Or Ken Penders instead.
Or... sheesh, they all kind of blend together after a while, don’t they?
The Execution: If my general tone has thus far not been enough of an obvious indication, I do not rank Scourge with any particular favouritism when it comes to Sonic's rogue gallery.
Mind you, ANYONE who threatens our world and tries to kill my friends is nothing but rancid at their core, and as long as they remain unrepentant, I would never support any of them. Asking me which dangerous maniac is “the best” is like asking me which sewage stinks the least, after all. But even I can understand that there's a right way to do bad, and a wrong way to do bad. Scourge, Evil Sonic, whatever you wish to call him, falls squarely into the latter category.
How I'd love to shove an arrow up His Majesty's rear end.
First of all, his motivations were poorly structured, and that's putting it tactfully. Most of the time, we're led to assume that he does evil for no other reason than because it's evil, so we're already not looking at masterpiece material. But as it turns out, as I mentioned way earlier on, he grew resentful of his father for not giving him as much attention as he felt he deserved.
So when he killed his dear old dad, and went on to do everything else to bitterly stick it to his dad's memory, we're supposed to... sympathise...? Understand his point of view, perhaps...?
Well, I dare say I'll be sticking my nose up to THAT presumption, because there is no pathos to be had here. None at all. It's just a selfish brat becoming a violent and murderous selfish brat, and nothing more. By doing everything for evil's sake, intertwined with this sorry excuse of a tragic backstory, it's as if he's trying to have the best of both villainous worlds, without understanding what makes either of them work.
Secondly, for what little success that Scourge actually had to his name, few of them were by his own hand so to speak. As much as it pains me to give Dr. Eggman even a veneer of kudos, it does require mentioning that for all of the doctor's contemptible attributes, he truly is single-handedly responsible for a great majority of his own... achievements, if you wish to call them such. By contrast, this stinker rarely worked for his moments, instead often relying solely on others to get anything done efficiently, whether it be Fiona, Finitevus, his gangs, or the Anarchy Beryl. Without them, Scourge was always nothing.
Thirdly, as mentioned, he failed to fulfill even the basic concept of what Sonic would be like if he became evil, since he has virtually nothing in common with the hero he's trying so desperately to present himself as the corrupted counterpart to. While I'd obviously prefer not to entertain the mere notion of an evil Sonic anyways, since I know deep in my heart that he would never go down that path, I know him well enough to reasonably assume that even if he did lose his way, he would still be recognisable in some capacity, since there are countless aspects to his personality that remain so... inherent to how his mind operates.
I guess what I'm saying is that if an evil Sonic came to be, he would exist as a darker mirror of how Sonic actually is, and not... something that is not at all like Sonic beyond the physical.
What's the matter? Not used to a horse seeing you for what you really are?
Finally, remember when I said he was considerably more cowardly than Sonic? I wasn't simply referring to life or death battles and similar heat of the moment situations. Even when the scenario is of lower intensity, when the odds are completely in his favor at that, Scourge proves himself to be what Sonic isn't. Remember when he broke into the house of Sonic's father, with the intent to intimidate and kill said father... only to be scolded into submission by him? We're expected to believe this guy is a big baddie who ranks high in threat level, yet getting a telling off is sufficient enough to shoo him away?
If only Eggman was this easy to deal with...
Now granted, it's to my understanding that all of Scourge's failings are occasionally explained as him being a parody character. But, and correct me if I'm wrong here... aren't parodies supposed to be, you know, parodic, even if done subtly? As opposed to being played completely straight with no trace of irony, which is exactly how Scourge was portrayed throughout the entire duration of the comic's run, with no exceptions whatsoever?
Despite how often the comic insisted otherwise, and despite how often he received it, Scourge was not a villain who warranted importance. He was not a master planner, or a legendary conquerer, or a malevolent force of nature. He was bottom of the barrel, a wannabe at best, who thought he was made for bigger stripes, but remained little more than a walking pile of fresh manure, with nothing to show for it till the very end. His credibility was often alluded to, and handed to him, but never in any stretch was it properly earned. A punk who occasionally got lucky is hardly worth the rank of arch-fiend, in my humble opinion. He was a disgrace who simply had the luxury of wearing Sonic's skin to mask his shortcomings, and I can’t say I’m crestfallen to see him go.
And quite frankly, anyone who impersonates Sonic in the first place reeks to high heaven anyway. To think this trash heap thought he could ever compare in the slightest to my darling... Oh goodness, did I say that out loud?

Bro give us the deets on the (sadly limited) female characters!! Tbh i can only remember like two that aren't amy, which are Rouge and Cream....i know theres more tho!!
this. this question. this is the ideal question. obviously I love 99% of the major Sonic characters, but the female part of the cast is VERY special to me and I CANNOT thank you enough for giving me an opportunity to talk about them, because they are wildly under-appreciated and seem to go mostly unnoticed outside of the fandom, which is a crime
and yes! it is true that there aren’t many female characters in the central, recurring cast, HOWEVER! there is actually a very decently-sized amount of female characters who are key characters in the plots of various games, and many that only show up for one story and then leave for a variety of reasons (just to torture me, I think, because a lot of them are some of my absolute favorite characters).
so, a warning to anyone reading this: if you’re looking to get into Sonic, please be warned that many of these character descriptions come with major spoilers!
and without further ado, a little presentation on a handful of the many oft-ignored female Sonic characters:
Amy Rose the Hedgehog:one of the series’ central characters. she’s unfortunately often mostly characterized by being obsessed with Sonic, but she’s actually a really fun character outside of that - she’s a fierce fighter, a brave hero, and aggressively idealistic. she believes in people’s ability to be good and is determined to make others live up to their true potential. she has super strength and super speed, and is occasionally shown to have magical powers, mainly clairvoyance.
Cream the Rabbit:Amy’s sister figure and close friend. at only six years old, she’s the baby of the group and quite sensitive. she hates fighting, but still stays by her friends’ sides and has helped them save the world many times. she has the ability to fly and is sometimes cast as a healer character with the ability to magically bring good luck and health to those who need it.
Rouge the Bat:a master thief who was hired as a government agent when the authorities realized there was nothing they could do to stop her criminal behavior. she tends to follow her own agenda and likes to pretend she has no morals, but deep down, she’s a caring person who will do the right thing when push comes to shove. she has super speed while in flight, as well as super strength. she’s also extremely tech-savvy and uses a lot of gadgets in battle.
Blaze the Cat:the princess of a parallel dimension who guards the magical sol emeralds. she was originally born 200 years into the future, but due to time being rewritten, she was separated from her best friend and gained a new past, where she grew up lonely and ostracized despite her status. her aloof attitude hides an emotionally broken person who more than anything needs a friend. she has super speed, as well as power over the element of fire.
Vanilla the Rabbit:Cream’s mother, who unfortunately isn’t seen in the series very often. she’s a kind and devoted single mother, who serves as a surrogate parent for the many orphans in the series. she also currently looks after an ancient war robot that has turned over a new leaf, so she’s presumably got her hands full somewhere off-screen.
Tikal the Echidna:the spirit of a teenage girl who sacrificed her mortal life 4000 years ago in order to magically contain an enraged god of nature and balance. these days, the god’s anger has been quelled and her spirit lives with it in harmony. she was originally the daughter of a chief of a Mayan-like civilization, the same one that Knuckles is descended from. she believes in peace and has a great amount of respect and appreciation for nature.
Shade the Echidna:another echidna who lived around the same time as Tikal. her tribe was stolen away by an unknown force and trapped inside a pocket dimension where time stood still for 4000 years. recently, Shade escaped. despite her young age, she was the most powerful fighter among her people, as well as the highest-ranking member of their military. she’s a ruthless tactician and fighter, but she’s also noble at heart. she’s got super strength, and uses her people’s futuristic technology in battle.
Maria Robotnik:a chronically ill human child who lived on a space station 50 years ago with her scientist grandfather and his research team. because of her illness, she couldn’t survive down on Earth, so she spent her life dreaming of the day when her grandfather would find a cure for her illness so she could be free. when the military raided the space station in order to destroy her grandfather’s work, she sacrificed her life so that her best friend could escape to Earth, even though she dearly wanted to be there with him.
Wave the Swallow:a young genius and engineer, who descended from a civilization of technologically advanced aliens that crash-landed on Earth in ancient times and used their tech to become master thieves. she prides herself on her intelligence and is something of a snob. however, she’s more of a schoolyard bully than a villain, and while she’s happy to rob people blind and cheat to win, there are still lines she won’t cross. she uses her knowledge of her people’s ancient technology to create hoverboards that her gang cruise around on.
Marine the Raccoon:I never played the game Marine was in, but as far as I’m aware, she’s a loud, excitable kid who makes friends with Blaze and plays a key role in the plot. I’m going to have to play her game eventually, but until then, if you’re curious, you can always look her up on the wiki!
Cosmo:a character from a spin-off series that I’m including here anyway because she’s one of my favorite characters in the franchise. she was an eight-year-old kid who was the sole survivor of a race of plant aliens, and watching her family be killed left her heavily traumatized and filled with both survivor’s guilt and determination to get revenge on those who destroyed her childhood. with the help of the main cast, she slowly got better and formed new bonds. in the end, she sacrificed her life in order to save her new friends and destroy her enemies once and for all.
Sticks the Badger:another character from a spin-off, who seems to have been more or less adopted into the main universe. a borderline feral child who grew up in the wild by herself. as a result, she doesn’t fit into society well and tends to be aggressive and paranoid. once she decides she trusts someone, though, she proves to be a sweet and supportive friend, with a happy-go-lucky “we might die tomorrow, so let’s have fun today” kind of attitude. she doesn’t seem to have any powers, but doesn’t let that stop her from being excellent in battle by force of will alone.
and here’s where I’m gonna stop listing characters, because I could keep going on forever. these are the ones that I think are the most central/interesting female characters, though there are definitely more out there (you’ve probably seen me mention Elise, for example, but she’s more fun because of her wonky character writing than her actual story, so I left her out). anyway, thank you for an excellent question!! bless you for giving me an excuse to talk about all these under-appreciated gals

Could you make a story prompt with Shadow & Sonic merging into a singular hedgehog who's stronger and powerful to take down a SUPREMELY super powered Metal Sonic (that would happen with Knuckles using the Chaos Emerald and tapping it's power to merge the two 'hogs)?
Two Souls, One Origin
Even now for him, it was difficult to breathe. It had been 10 years since he had broken his nose. Well, someone broke it for him and ever since he couldn’t breathe properly. It didn’t bother him that much, so he never went to fix it. He hated everything that had to do with going to the doctors not because he was afraid of surgery but because he knew we would be in bed for weeks.
And he didn’t have the luxury.
Even more, now that the world was in danger, he walked around thinking of any other solution but that one Tails had just mentioned.
“You know that we need him.” Tails sighed as he turned his chair to face the blue one, who was still not accepting the facts.
“You know very well I don’t talk to him anymore.” Sonic had a frown on his face as he stopped mid-track. His face told Tails everything, he didn’t want to do anything with him. Anyone but HIM.
“Sonic what happened between you and him was 10 years ago and-”
“Because if him I stayed in prison for 10 years Tails! 10 years in which I didn’t see the sunlight…and…” Sonic stopped as he remembers the terrible memories. The white walls of his prison cell, the guards, the needles, the doctors, the pain…
“Sonic snap out of it!” , Tails hated seeing his best friend like this. His eyes were full of panic whenever they talked about what happened during those ten years. Never again, Tails promised him.
Even so, he knew that to save the world, they needed him.
“I know it was horrible for you…but you know very well that we need him…If we are gonna save the world…we need him, Sonic!”, Tails said with a pleading face. Tails knew that Sonic wasn’t like before, he couldn’t defeat enemies like he used to. He needed help and Tails just needed that assurance that if he was going to the battlefield, HE was going to be with him.
“Fine, but I don’t know how to contact him.” Sonic finally agreed.
“Don’t worry about it, I got it.”

Now they were in the well-know floating Angel Island. Sonic had to admit that it was nice to see Knuckles do his job once in a while. He was sleeping of course, right next to the Master Emerald.
“KNUCKLES!”, Both Sonic and Tails screamed on his ears, making him jump and hitting his head with the Master Emerald. "What is your damn problem!? THIS BETTER BE GOOD OR I-“, Knuckles was fuming from his nose and was redder than usual, ready to him Sonic and Tails in the face.
"Short story, Eggman got all seven Chaos Emeralds and Sol Emeralds and transferred them into Metal Sonic. Now he is probably the strongest enemy we have ever faced.”, Sonic said as he saw Knuckles face change expressions.
“All of this happened while I was asleep?”, The red echidna asked.
“What doesn’t happen when you are asleep?” Tails mocked him and at this, Knuckles hit him in the head, leaving him a very noticeable bump.
“Where is Metal Sonic now?”
“We don’t know, probably destroying a city or something. He could be anywhere if we wanted. I am pretty sure he is going to want to come soon and take the Master Emerald.”
“Alright, so you are here to protect it?”, Knuckles inquired,
“No Knuckles, we are here because of we-”
“We want to use it to fuse into one.”
Everyone turned around to see the Shadow the Hedgehog. He looks as good as always, black fur, red stripes, white fur, and his legendary rocket shoes.
“This ain’t Dragon Ball Quest, I don’t know if I capable of doing such thing”, Knuckles used his sarcasm as soon as he saw the black hedgehog. He wanted to be neutral between the things that happened with Sonic and Shadow. However, Knuckles always had a particular sense of rivalry with him.
“Is it possible?”, Shadow asked as he walked towards him, still not able to see Sonic in the eyes.
“…Yes, it is.”
“Then let’s get this over with… Sonic?”, Tails looked at the blue bur who looked away into the distance.
“Sonic?”, Tails asked again, beginning to worry now.
“…Going.”
Sonic turned around and finally saw Shadow. The first time in 11 years. He wonders how was he so calm? Maybe because the world depends on it. Furthermore, he knew that he wanted Shadow to suffer, more than he did.
“Very well now, look at each other.”
They both did. Now, Sonic wanted to destroy him. More than Metal Sonic at the moment and he swore that when given the chance, he would do it. He was going to wipe out his entire existence.
Knuckles cleared his throat and began to recite the words of the ancients of the language, Sonic nor Shadow could understand, but Tails clearly heard them.
“Gods of Chaos, grant me the power to bestow these two hedgehogs the ability to become greater! Through your holy Master Emerald, I ask you..merge this two hedgehogs into one so they can once more protect what you created!”
It began to be cloudy all of a sudden, and then, there was rain. Heavy rain covered the everyone’s furs and that’s when they knew they had failed.
“What went wrong?”, Tails asked Knuckles.
“The Gods of Chaos won’t let me fuse them, not because they don’t deserve it but…because there isn’t any bond tying them together. To do the fusion, two individuals most share a strong bond…if not, the fusion won’t be successful.”, Knuckles said and with that more rain poured from the sky. It seemed like it was never going to end.
“So, that’s it, right? We are doomed! Once again, everything I ever loved was taken away by Shadow!” Sonic yelled, still containing himself.
“Sonic, you can still fix this… talk things through with him is our only option now.” Tails looked at Sonic and the at Shadow who was looking at the temple’s ground.
“Talk thing through? Tails, we are talking about the guy who put me in prison for ten years! Because of him, I got experimented on! It was goddamn painful too!.”, Sonic let out a small cynical laugh as he turned his head to look at Shadow who now dared to look at him.
“I lost my ability to run Tails…and I lost Amy…this bastard killed her.”
Sonic walked away already giving up on this idea. He wanted to think of other possibilities, but for now, it wasn’t the right moment.
“I didn’t kill her…you did.”
That was it for Sonic. He couldn’t run so he walked slowly, taking small hops from his right foot. His leg was broke once and it was never the same.
He got close enough to Shadow and punched him the face. Shadow let him have it, Sonic pushed him to the ground and began to strike him. Again…and again….and again.
“I WAS THE ONE ONE WHO FOUND AMY DEAD, YOU JUST APPEARED AND ASSUMED IT WAS ME! YOU DIDN’T EVEN BOTHER TO INVESTIGATE, YOU TOLD G.U.N. AND THEY BELIEVED YOU!” Sonic stared at Shadow and let go of his fur, calming down. “Of course they were going to believe you…you are their top agent after all…and I was just the hero who saved the world multiple times…That day I lost what I loved to do the most, the person I loved the most, the gratitude of people…and a friend.”
Sonic was finally able to stand up and walked away. Shadow wasn’t worth his time, and knowing Amy, she wouldn’t have wanted it this way.
“Amy meant everything to me…”, Shadow said as he cleaned the blood from his mouth. He stood up and sighed, “I broke your nose…but what you did broke me entirely.”
“MASTER EMERALD DETECTED…MISSION: ANNIHILATE SHADOW AND SONIC INITIATING NOW.”
Everyone’s face turned pale as soon they Metal Sonic standing on top of the Master Emerald. Each part of his body integrated a Chaos and Sol Emerald. His power was immeasurable. Sonic felt his hand’s sweat and heartbeat race faster.
A golden radiance surrounded the Metal hedgehog as he came down from the Master Emerald. Sonic and Shadow didn’t even blink. They felt the pain coming to their stomachs suddenly. A few seconds ago, they were on the Temple of the Master Emerald. Now, they were in the forest of Angel Island.
It didn’t take them long to realize that Metal Sonic had K.O them with one punch and the impact alone made them jump inside to the forest.

“We have to help him Knuckles!”, Tails said as he looked at Knuckles.
“There’s nothing we can do, we would only get on the way…we can only stay here an pray to the Master Emerald to help us.”
Tails didn’t want to take that answer. He wanted to go and help Sonic more than anything. However, looking at Knuckles determined they look on his face made him change his mind. He sighed deeply and took a sit in front of the Master Emerald and prayed just like Knuckles told him to.

Sonic could barely move. Sonic was laying on a cracked tree. A piece of it crossing his chest, coughing blood and his eyes almost closing. Was he going to die like this?
Shadow landed on a bush with his arm broken or so he believed. His blood was already on the process of closing up his wounds, but the cuts were still painful to fave.
“INICIATING TRANSFORMATION: SUPERMEGA METAL SONIC”
As if things couldn’t get worse, Metal Sonic had transformed into a gigantic metal robot. Shadow couldn’t tell how big he was due to the heavy rain blocking his eyesight.
“NOW PROCEEDING TO ELIMINATE TARGET ONE: SONIC THE HEDGEHOG.”
Yes, this was it. Sonic saw how the gigantic leg of Metal Sonic began to rise. He was going to die by being stepped on by his archenemy. He wanted to thank Metal Sonic, however; his leg was blocking the rain and he was going to end his suffering.
He closed his eyes and waited for the impact to happen.
But it never did.
Next thing he knows, Shadow was there screaming his lungs out with a bleeding hand, stopping Metal Sonic from smashing him.
Metal Sonic stepped a little harder but Shadow screamed again and pushed up the gigantic leg.
“YOU DESERVE TO DIE”, Shadow began screaming. “I HATE HOW NOTHING MAKES SENSE! YOU WERE THE ONLY ONE THERE WITH AMY. YOU SHOULD HAVE PROTECTED HER! YOU DON’T KNOW HOW IT FEELS…YOU DON’T KNOW HOW IT FEELS TO HAVE THE PERSON YOU LOVE THE MOST DIE TWICE!”
Shadow screamed louder as Metal Sonic tried once again to smash them both. This time, Shadow couldn’t use his now destroyed hand and used his back as support instead.
“I HATE IT…I hate everything…”
Sonic couldn’t see Shadow’s face but if he knew any better, he could tell his voice was cracking due to tears.
“I hate how I can’t hate you…I can’t hate you even if you were the one responsible…I can’t hate my friend.”
Shadow turned his head to look at Sonic one last time. His eyes couldn’t even let out the tears and he had no words to describe his feelings.
However, Shadow knew him very well.
This was it.
Sonic nodded, and Shadow did too. Finally content at the decision that was already made. Shadow couldn’t any longer, nor Sonic.
Shadow let go.

Knuckles and Tails heard a loud sound coming from in the forest as if a big stomp was made. The birds flew past them, and for a second time had stopped for everyone. There was no sound, no smell, no…nothing.
Tails felt it deep down.
That nothing could be done from the beginning.
But that didn’t he wasn’t going to try. He stood up and walked towards his Tornado to go to the previous sound.
“Where are you going?”, Knuckles asked.
“I am going to pick up their bodies, I can’t let them there…and I’ll try to stop Metal Sonic by myself.”, Tails said as he hops into his plain.
“That’s suicide, Sonic wouldn’t have wanted that!” Knuckles said as he walked towards him.
“Sonic wouldn’t have wanted me to stay and do nothing! You can stay here and keep praying to your Gods, but guess what! Nothing is going to happen!”
Tails flew away into the distance as Knuckles let the rain touch him. His connection with Chaos had never failed him before. So why now? Was this meant to happen? Was this what the Chaos Gods wanted?
But he wasn’t just gonna stay here and do nothing.
He turned around determined to make it work no matter what.
Knuckles placed his hands on Master Emerald and instantly it began to blink. It was palpitating like a heart. not one but two in perfect unison.
That’s when Knuckles knew that he needed to once again, began to recite the old language of the Ancients.

Due to the heavy rain, Tails crashed his Tornado but still made it out unharmed. He reached where Metal Sonic was. Now he was at his regular size, looking down on the two hedgehogs who weren’t breathing.
Death.
Tails moved softly but made the mistake to step on a fallen tree branch. This cracking sounds made Metal Sonic turned his head immediately and without knowing it, Tails was already hanging up from the ground. Metal Sonic was holding his neck with one hand and lifting him the ground. Using his strength to choke him slowly and prevent him from breathing.
“I…won’t let you…kill me!” Tails was holding a bomb detonator in his hand. He only needed to press it, and that would be it. He didn’t know if the bomb was strong enough to stop Metal Sonic, but he was going to die trying.
“YOU WILL NEVER BE SONIC, YOU WILL NEVER BE A HERO”, Metal Sonic said as he strangled him harder.
“I…I don’t have…to be..a hero… I am…me”
Tails closed his eyes as he gave the last of his strength to press the button.
Then everything happened in slow motion. The lighting hit directly Sonic and Shadow’s bodies ad they both levitated. Closed eyes and moving in circles, the lighting was still surrounding their bodies as if the Gods wanted to give back their lives.
Good and bad, hero and anti-hero, yin and yang, negative and positive energy.
Everything came together to create the perfect balance. These energies came into one to create a more perfect being. Sonic’s blue fur and Shadow’s black fur were no longer more. Instead a gold and white resemble their entered body. Red stripes around his body. When he finally opened his eyes, the right eye was green and the other one red.
Tails didn’t know who this hedgehog was but he knew something for sure…Knuckles made it work.
“SCANNING: SONIC AND SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG… TWO SOULS, ONE ORIGIN…ELIMINATE TARGET.”, Once again Metal Sonic transformed in SuperMega Metal Sonic, ready to fight.
Tails looked over to the hedgehog in front of him, “Who are you?”
The hedgehog smirked and said: “Shadic”

Shadic flew up to face his enemy. He looked at Super Mega Metal Sonic and knew this was going to be a tough fight.
“Hey, Shadow.” Shadic talked to himself. “Yes?”
“When this is over…let’s talk.”
“You read my mind.”
Shadic smirked to himself and his opponent. The battle began, and the world could hear his screaming of war.
Their screaming of hope, of the future, of resolutions, of friendship and… love.
But the rain never stopped….

God… If she somehow manages to survive this….
She was going to straight up strangle Knuckles when she gets her hand on him for coming up with the most stupid plan on the planet... Then again... Not all the blame can be solely placed on him.
Considering, she was a fool herself for tagging along with the plan and hoping for the best outcome, however luck could carry so far especially against an enemy who could bend reality with a flick of their wrist.
Although.... She was still going to strangle the echidna because of the plan. Honestly, it was a miracle that the Resistance didn’t fall sooner if they had a commander like that in charge.
Who even spend more time trying to come up a name for the plan THAN the actual plan itself??
Regardless, the moment she saw the masked jackal fly pass her whilst she was trying to get to the central of the city; she knew everything was going straight to hell, and they were all screwed…
A fact proven when the communication blare to life with everyone screaming and Amy stating that they practically lost all of their forces in one sweep with her being the last hope as she managed to not get taken out and remain in communication.
Ugh...
The fact that everything kept flipping and switching was making her feel physically ill, which wasn’t help by the loud noises that kept happening when the world briefly became red and everything switched again.
Did he really have to keep switching the world every THREE SECONDS?
It was a miracle she was able to keep up with the changes considering how quickly they were happening and how distorting it was! In fact, she was lucky in general, as she only needed one slip up for her to be screwed!
She was JUST lucky.
The wolf felt relief when she finally found herself on the road with the correct gravity and everything being the right way up instead of being sideways or even upside down...
Just how it should be....
However....
Sole should have known that it wasn’t over... As she wasn’t lucky when she realized that she landed on the same road that the masked jackal was on; who wasn’t looking in her general direction.
Oh, lovely…
Just her luck!
And of course!
He would know she was and start talking!
Then frighten her! Again!
“Are you going to fight and die here? Or, run away in fear again?”
No...
“Hey, don't be scared! This is your moment to shine!”
She won’t be scared.
“Keep going. Don't let your fear own you!”
She was tired of the fear.
She was going to stand her ground.
“Fine. I will teach you fear, then pain, and then... well, at least the fear and pain will end.”
She was done running away.
She was going to show him her fangs and kill him, even if it meant drawing her last breath.

A Serious Version Of Sonic Movie Sequel Ideas Explained
So had to click here again and I hope well I want the title to be truthful. Basically it's my thing about what I feel sequels would be. Just okay the movie isn't even out yet but I keep thinking ahead and this is in case.
But I wanted to talk about this and it relates to my post that silly one explaining events by the characters themselves. Along with relating to that Sonic movie Reddit leak whether true or not. Mainly I want to take advantage of this now and just have these ideas.
Including with the story taking liberties I'm want to build upon some stuff. Basically here's the trilogy. Along with a extra movie.
Spoilers for the Reddit leak because it references characters just in case or other things.
The first sequel. Stories taken from Sonic The Hedgehog 3, Sonic Adventure 2, and Sonic Heroes.
The first film and okay changed that last part text the first big text whatever. Wanted to change things up a bit and that change was a mistake I back spaced.
Yet the first film like the leak said the writers looked at Sonic stories mainly the Classic games and Sonic Adventure. The ones with the most are Sonic 1, Sonic 2, and Sonic Adventure.
The film takes place two years later. In 2021 almost left 201 but also the 30th anniversary of the Sonic franchise, 28th anniversary of Sonic CD Metal Sonic's first appearance, 20th anniversary of Sonic Adventure 2 Shadow's first appearance. Wanna say others but let's yet this over with.
Also seriously I keep thinking of that year as a sequel and in this timeline the 50 years not 6 but the many years after the Ark was raided not raised. Let me talk about this.
So it takes place after the first film where Sonic and his friends Tails, Amy, also new character Grant, along with Rouge and Madonna beat Dr. Eggman or Robotnik whatever name they use. Along with Perfect Chaos. With Sonic becoming Super Sonic.
The post credits scene is of Eggman building a big machine, looking at more manuscripts had to look on Google well YouTube at the top search had to use sonic unleashed gaia manuscripts almost forgot gaia. Including the end shows Metal Sonic being created.
Now here while he's building Metal Sonic, he also discovers about the government whether GUN or whatever are hiding something from the public relating to his grand father Gerald Robotnik. He then discovers Shadow.
Honestly knowing some Eggman fans I feel it's best to not have Eggman being tricked or whatever honestly this is different from Sonic Adventure 2.
Yet having Shadow and Metal Sonic. Also while I go with the theory GUN went after Sonic because they wanted to keep Shadow a secret. But just it's good to have both of these guys to help. Yet my silly post said people knew the difference or whatever with Metal Sonic and stuff.
Including Eggman tricks Knuckles into thinking Sonic is a bad person along with Tails and anyone else. Also Knuckles questioning why does Metal Sonic look more evil then Sonic. I've thought of this before but I guess Eggman saying to at least make him look different enough.
Including during the course of the movie while Eggman knows who Rouge is and she can't help them. Also theirs people who noticed some plotholes with her teaming up with Eggman and Shadow.
Yet during the course of the movie Shadow and Metal Sonic attack, and people thinking Metal could be Sonic until they find out it's a robot who looks like him. The people now start to think despite all of the good things Sonic has done. They were now thinking this is happening because of him. Theirs destruction that happens after battles, and people blaming Sonic that Metal Sonic was even born. They honestly want Sonic to be accounted for his actions.
Which actually at first Sonic does hear this stuff yet he understands and at times still helping. Also I don't wanna sound stupid at times doesn't listen some of them I don't wanna do that. Yet it's so much that he is actually thinking too deep into it.
Then connecting more into the first film. Mainly Sonic is met by Tikal's orb whenever he goes to some places even the old Echidna temple to go out and ease his mind. He's met by her and even Chaos in his normal form basically Chaos Zero. But after Sonic basically kicked his ass. Chaos then realized along with Tikal that the world changed. With the film introducing Chao but they aren't a big thing yet to Chaos they are. He's not angry anymore or not as much.
Was gonna write the thing about Sonic yet I wanna explain first this to connect and respect that in the games Chaos was angry for a reason. That he wasn't some random God Of Destruction and just this to be have audiences be aware of that lore.
Now the Sonic thing he talks to Tikal about the stuff of what's been going on. Also the themes and talks about scarifice. With Tikal despite everything she tried to stop. Chaos was angry and destroyed the world. So she had to make the choice of trapping herself in the Master Emerald wait....just....or just Tikal trapping herself with Chaos for thousands of years to make sure nobody was hurt.
I don't know well it seems to count. Yet basically sometimes scarifice comes in certain ways. Whether it be like that or other ways.
Shadow is basically still the same, being the Ultimate Lifeform and hating on humans and basically the world. With seeing his family and basically sister in a way Maria shot while trying to make sure he escaped. While still the same Shadow and trying to set up his supposed father's plans Gerald Robotnik's yet okay people say their some weird stuff with it such as why Chaos Emeralds always connected.
But basically the plan changes.
Metal Sonic is still the same thing. But basically as the film goes on he thinks a bit more for himself. Including of how his father Eggman treats him, and how this is basically getting him nowhere. Along with the obsession that he is the real Sonic.
Yet it's get more personal and he slowly losing it.
While it doesn't go the way of Sonic Heroes some people don't like how Eggman was trapped for most of the game.
Also theirs this theme with Shadow and Metal how they are similar. Both weapons in a way. Including with different relationships with certain families. With different goals.
Including Knuckles okay he figures out what's going with the Master Emerald being stolen. So he teams up with Sonic and friends. Including let's have half of the moon blown up still in a way.
Yet instead of some stuff. Okay just thought of this Gerald's video is released early and everyone figures out what's going on with Shadow.
Including Metal Sonic in secret studying Sonic, studying Shadow, and maybe some Chaos but basically for the Biolizard he decides to absorb it's energy or something and the others see this or just he kills it.
This is a different route instead of what Metal Sonic did in Sonic Heroes.
I'm seriously thinking wow Metal Sonic botched Shadow's and Gerald's plan to destroy the Earth yet Eggman... honestly he wants the Earth for himself.
So Sonic with Amy a bit but Sonic tries to change Shadow's mind. Including this is on Earth but Shadow basically kicks his ass in a fight. Including Shadow is not accepting that Maria died and what her final wishes were. He's choosing to ignore them because he is so enraged and just can't let go of her.
But it's until Sonic even admits that Shadow is becoming the thing he hates and even others learning of Maria never wanted this. Along with Amy protecting Sonic reminding Shadow of what Maria did for her and fully remembering his final moments of seeing her and her final wishes of giving them a chance.
While still I guess feeling angry. Shadow decides to help. But Metal Sonic is almost ready just he's Neo Metal Sonic now and he's so bent on killing Sonic and furious of how his own father has treated him and the world. He tries to kill Eggman but Sonic stops him. Including going Super Sonic. With Shadow becoming Super later.
Along with Neo Metal Sonic becoming Metal Madness and Metal Overlord. With Metal Overlord still being so powerful. The only way to defeat him is to get to his core. Since having the energy of the Biolizard in him and other things.
Sonic realizes that they need to get closer. Yet with how Metal is their is a high possibility of death. But also to Chaos Control Metal Sonic or his core basically his heart out of the area.
Realizing that this might be the only way and the world is going to be destroyed soon. With the whole reason Metal Sonic is doing this is that he wants Sonic dead. Knowing he could die, he wants to save everyone even Eggman and everyone who basically hates him. Showing who he really is. He doesn't care of what people think of him. But he's going to do what he thinks is right.
So he does that almost left dies. Even with Shadow using all four of his rings but Sonic going in first and Shadow supposedly keeping Metal Sonic at bay. With Shadow not approving of what Sonic is doing and even everyone else but Eggman just being shocked by this.
He gets close enough to Metal, gets to his core and some spear or something not Chaos Spear but something maybe of something fallen off of Metal then thought something Tails built.
Including Metal supposedly stabs Sonic in a way and Metal saying he is the real Sonic. Including as he Metal develops more he learns to talk. But Sonic replies their are no Sonic's with everyone hearing them. Yet also meaning both him and Metal are dying. With Sonic finally saying Chaos Control.
It happens and the explosion and Sonic's death screams are so loud along with Metal Sonic's too go across the world and even break some glass with everyone hearing them and watching them. Also yeah have it in the sky since Metal Overlord flies. As the explosion goes off Shadow basically falls down a visual reference to his death from Sonic Adventure 2 but just now witnessing Sonic's scarifice yet he manages to fly a bit yet is weak a bit after using all four of his rings.
Metal Overlord comes crashing down dead basically. Yet okay just put Sonic saying Chaos Control now but Sonic is nowhere is sight. No body and nothing. Just okay the spear there. The world just witnessed Sonic just had scarificed himself.
They saw him scarificing himself dying, Metal Sonic and even Eggman finally got what they want Sonic supposedly dead but gone. Yet Metal Sonic but died doing so. Along with Shadow seeing this made him realized now. Maria scarificed her life to save him. Now Sonic just had scarificed himself but it wasn't one person it was the whole world. Along with Shadow himself. With that symbolism of Maria and Sonic while different did similar things. They both died doing what they thought was the right thing and saved a life in Maria's case and in Sonic's case everyone on the planet including Shadow. Who was basically going against Sonic and hated him.
Basically in a way that ending people think of for Sonic Adventure if Sonic had died but differently in a way.
The world is in sorrow. Even cameos for the fun of it like Princess Elise and no Sonic 06 did not happen in this universe. He met her during those two years and is friends with her. Along with Chris Thorndyke who he met too and was friends with him and his family. Basically those are cameos I personally put in there showing those two while some or a lot of people don't like them. Wanted to show them how they would feel at something like this and not stereotypes of them because I'm okay with them and I guess like them. Not the biggest fan okay basically oh head be nice it's a nice little cameo for people who like them and I wanted to treat them with respect.
Along with a cameo building Buddy/Gadget/Rookie from Sonic Forces before the events of that game happened and him reacting to these events too.
They built a memorial for Sonic and even a statue, the world mourns for Sonic's death, while Eggman would of wanting to kill Sonic himself. For the first time in his life. He is basically shocked by an action like this and confused. Because he wants to retain his douchey self and not care.
Including after witnessing that. Shadow now wants to now help the world. But not just by Maria's promise yet seeing first hand what someone like Sonic would do.
Basically now remembered thinking he failed Sonic is life but he won't fail him in death. Including even talking to his friends with Amy there too thinking he was the one who killed Sonic and telling them he's not asking them to forgive him. With Amy and the others being confused by this emotion. That Shadow actually blames himself for Sonic's death.
But the post credits scene or whatever is of showing Blaze seeing a dimenison portal being opened and her being concerned.
Just thought of this and almost forgot or just I remember and realized this is going to be long.
Sonic Mania Movie
Basically a movie adaptation of Sonic Mania I guess the next year 2022 with the third movie coming out later. Still thinking at times a Team Chaotix movie and Shadow movie. Maybe a Team Chaotix movie before the first sequel and oh Knuckles but no it's Team Chaotix still just new ideas.
2nd sequels stories taken from Sonic Rush and Sonic Forces and a bit of Sonic Rush Adventure
Had to look at the first big text thing. Basically the world is depressed after Sonic was okay just put the Sonic Rush Adventure thing. But okay the world is depressed after Sonic supposedly died. While in Sonic Mania from what I know the Phantom Ruby dropped in this dimenison where the main movies take place. So Eggman finds it and the comic where Infinite before he becomes of what he is. Him leasing Jackal Squad to raid Eggman until Infinite discovers what the Phantom Ruby can do like Eggman. With now Jackal Squad joining Eggman and his forces now.
Shadow I guess this takes place a year after Sonic's supposed death also hey 30th anniversary of Sonic 2. But Shadow still trying to do what he can after Sonic scarificed himself. Inspiring Shadow and going by Maria's promise to protect this world.
So he finds Eggman at his hidden base and had to look so last paragraph put Shadow at front. Basically Shadow kicks the Jackal Squad's ass and him telling them stuff like this isn't worth it. Basically Jackal Squad just leaves Infinite and then Infinite tries to fight Shadow but as the story goes gets his ass kicked.
With Shadow calling him pathetic and let's put weak in there. But also him easily kicking his ass and his squad just flat out leaving it. This basically triggers even more of what happens with him. To go with Eggman's plan and become one with the Phantom Ruby.
Along with Infinite this version. The aftermath of what happened. After being left and considered weak by Shadow. Because of this Infinite's mindset grows even more negative. Disgusted by the concept of family and hating it along with despising the concept of weakness so much. He's basically losing himself at this point.
So since Sonic is supposedly dead. Eggman attacks and Shadow is the one who fights backs. With this time Infinite well they meet first or whatever or sometime. But also Infinite bringing clones of Shadow, Chaos, and Metal not a clone is rebuilt but made sure he's not gonna betray Eggman. Also the fact Sonic is considered to be dead at this point. They kick Shadow's ass and he's the one who vanishes.
Okay girl cleaned up some popcorn of mine on the ground. But basically Shadow is one of the world biggest defenses and while Shadow hates working with Shadow clones. This was Eggman's idea. Infinite decides he can torture Shadow since he's the one who increased this threat even more. I know torture wasn't the word used in the Japanese version and the English version for some reason used it.
Honestly Infinite seriously hates Shadow. I can see him doing this stuff. Also realizing Shadow can't not die or age. Yet you can mentally hurt him in some way.
For Sonic while confirmed dead. As a visual reference to Sonic Rush Adventure he washes ashore on the island where Marine resides at and she okay I had to watch the first part on YouTube I'm on my phone at Target I had the audio off.
But she starts poking him with a stick. So yeah Sonic is injured but he heals up on the island including some time meeting Blaze who wants to check on this. Basically Sonic using Chaos Control with all that power now teleported him here.
While wearing a bandage around his chest he tries to get back. Yet doesn't know how yet these Sol Emeralds could be the key. But because of what's going on in the other dimenison. With Infinite and Eggman using the Phantom Ruby and starts opening portals to other dimenisons. With Classic Sonic's world being one of them.
Also theirs no Tails vanishing and no he's not losing hope. Yet over time even with some of Sonic's last words he starting to lose hope but he doesn't wanna show it but people see it. Along with others like Amy having dreams of Sonic being alive and seeing her. Also this relates to old ideas. Even Shadow himself having dreams of Sonic being alive. Also the reversal of a racing scene between them. Instead of Shadow it's Sonic who says hey don't you remember I died which wakes Shadow up whether before he gets captured or while he is.
Also I know Shadow doesn't need sleep. Including let Grant and others be affected by this.
Including Tikal was shocked by Sonic's scarifice and even shows up I guess to help but basically pissed off at a fake Chaos and maybe Chaos helps.
Along with Buddy/Gadget/Rookie decides to help and overcoming his fear.
So instead of saving Sonic it's Shadow and he escapes and Sonic and Blaze and guess yeah put Marine there too teleport oh the Death Egg what about a random prison but using s teleporter that opened they go into that dimension and even Sonic saving Buddy/Gadget/Rookie.
Also their are changes like they have all the Chaos Emeralds but they won't work. Even for Sonic, Shadow, Tikal, Chaos, or even Classic Sonic. Including Sonic getting angry at one point.

Archie presents Ken Penders’ Knuckles the Echidna: A Postmortem
At long last, we’ve come to the end of the Knuckles solo series. Again, this is far from the end of the Penders Knuckles stories, but he no longer gets a whole series to himself. And thank God for that
While a 32 issue run (or really, 35, counting the first miniseries) might pale in comparison to Sonic’s nearly 300 issues, it’s a pretty impressive feat. That’s a lot of comics! A lot of series these days don’t get to enjoy runs that long. Hell, a lot are lucky to even last a year. And assuming that’s 22 pages of story in each issue, that means Penders got a whopping 770 pages of Knuckles comics where he got to do whatever he wanted
What did Penders spend those 770 pages doing? Well, he sure introduced a lot of new echidnas, that’s for damn sure. Let’s break down the Knuckles series arc by arc and briefly summarize what each one actually contributed to the world of Archie Sonic
Sonic’s Friendly Nemesis Knuckles miniseries #1-3
Characters Introduced: Enerjak. Knuckles also first meets Archimedes, who had been previously set up
Summary: Knuckles meets and begins to work together with Archimedes, who he inexplicably trusts right away. Enerjak comes back and announces he still wants to take over the world. Knuckles beats him up
Lasting Impact: Archimedes and Enerjak/Dimitri stick around as important-ish characters
Knuckles #1-3: The Dark Legion miniseries
Characters Introduced: The Dark Legion, Kragok, Steppenwolf, Christopholes, Menniker
Summary: The Dark Legion returns. The founding of the Brotherhood of Guardians is touched upon, as is their dumb pro-/anti-technology feud with the Dark Legion. Locke uses some sort of Chaos Emerald magic from afar to stop the Legion’s guns from firing so Knuckles can beat them up
Lasting Impact: The Dark Legion and the Brotherhood would be major players for the rest of the story
Knuckles #4-6: Lost Paradise
Characters Introduced: Julie-Su, Lara-Le, Remington, Helmut von Stryker, Gerbil, Hawking, Sabre, Wynmacher, some other fire ant whose name I forget
Summary: Ex-Dark Legionnaire Julie-Su suddenly defects from her faction to seek out Knuckles, because they “soul-touched” and now they’re destined to be lovers or something. Echidnaopolis suddenly comes back because reasons, and boy do they sure still have a lot of technology for people who said they renounced it. The dingoes are apparently evil fascists, and Hawking explains how racist he is to Knuckles.
Lasting Impact: Julie-Su and many of the characters here become mainstays in Knuckles’ supporting cast, and obviously Echidnaopolis becomes the main setting of the comic
#7-9: Dark Vengeance
Characters Introduced: The Echidna High Council, High Councilor Pravda
Summary: Enerjak comes back (again) and immediately becomes the new leader of the Dark Legion. Hawking is on life support. Enerjak kills Knuckles, but then the Ancient Walkers bring him back so he can be a Christ metaphor. Enerjak is defeated and turns back into Dimitri, who ages rapidly. Mammoth Mogul shows up so he can be trapped in the Master Emerald in the following Sonic issue
Lasting Impact: Dimitri’s old now
#10-12: The Other Road Taken
Characters Introduced: The Lost Tribe, Yanar, Athair’s mom (I forget her name), Rob O’ the Hedge and friends, Mari-An, Zax, Raynor, Gala-Na. Athair makes his first appearance in a Knuckles comic
Summary: The Lost Tribe is introduced. They’ve apparently been searching for the ancient echidna homeland of Albion in a big caravan for centuries. The Day of Fury happens, which doesn’t amount to much here compared to the literal apocalypses that share the title in the lore. They make a pit stop over in Snottingham in the Sonic series for some Robin Hood shenanigans, then Knuckles walks on water to lead them to Albion and continue being a Christ metaphor
Lasting Impact: These characters and locations are EVENTUALLY revisited, but not in the remainder of the Knuckles solo series
#13-15: The Chaotix Caper
Characters Introduced: Harry the cab driver, Mello (while dying), Unnamed(?) Echidna Doctor and Nurse, Downtown Ebony Hare, his fox girlfriend, his bulldog goon, the scientist guy who was making the drugs, Charmy’s family, Saffron, Jeepers the Bee Butler, a bear biker gang, Bimmy
Summary: Charmy’s apparent best friend Mello dies of a drug overdose. To investigate, the Chaotix all go to an amusement park, eat the drug-laced food, trip balls, and almost die. Charmy’s past is expanded upon so that he can then go home and get written out of the series. Knuckles starts to show off his Chaos powers
Lasting Impact: Harry sorta stuck around. We know more about Charmy, who is now gone
#16-18: Reunions, Deep Cover
Characters Introduced: Tobor, Moritori Rex, Spectre, Sojourner, Thunderhawk, Tobor’s family
Summary: Knuckles finds out his mom is getting married to Wynmacher. We find out that Lara-Le had major problems with the way Locke raised Knuckles, which goes nowhere. The Brotherhood convenes. We find out that one of them has been replaced with someone evil for years through one of the dumbest twists in the history of these comics. Knuckles beats up Kragok in jail, then Kragok and Tobor fuck off into a “quantum beam,” apparently killing them both. I didn’t even realize they died when I first read this. That may be a retcon
Lasting Impact: Tobor and Kragok died I guess. Lara-Le and Wynmacher’s marriage is teased
#19-21: The Forbidden Zone
Characters Introduced: Prince Elias Acorn, Queen Alicia Acorn, the bulldog colonel and his wife, a baby
Summary: Geoffrey and pals show up from the main series to rescue the Queen, only to walk right up to the Acorn family compound on Angel Island with no trouble and meet Sally’s long lost brother Elias, who nobody knew about. The Queen, meanwhile, is in a pod. Locke and Lara-Le meet up and he tries to kiss her for some mindboggling reason. Knuckles gets mad about all the secrets and finally meets the Brotherhood, but his dad isn’t there at the time. He also fights Moritori Rex (fake Tobor), who gets away
Lasting Impact: Elias would become quite important... over in the Bollers stories in the main series. He had nothing to do with Knuckles.
#22-24: Dark Alliance
Characters Introduced: Lien-Da, Benedict, Xenin
Summary: Echidna/dingo tensions rise in the runup to the election. Dimitri is a cyborg now. Lien-Da is apparently the new leader of the Dark Legion, and she kidnaps and brainwashes the High Councilor so they can rig the election. Tons and tons and tons of tasteless allusions to Nazi Germany and the Holocaust are made. Knuckles shows off his Chaos powers a little more. The fact that Remington is Kragok’s son is alluded to, but Penders never actually remembered to reveal this in a comic
Lasting Impact: None
#25: Childhood’s End
Characters Introduced: Harlan, Rembrandt, Aaron, one of Robotnik’s ancestors
Summary: Knuckles finally finds his dad... because he didn’t run away fast enough when Knuckles spotted him. Locke tells him the baby microwave story. He also tells him about a vision of the future he had, which scared him into doing all the horrible things he did, but this future never actually comes to pass in the comics. Knuckles immediately forgives his dad for experimenting on him
Lasting Impact: Locke’s not hiding from Knuckles anymore
#26-28: The First Date (feat. Friend in Need)
Characters Introduced: Raynor (not to be confused with the other echidna named Raynor), a bunch of nameless furry girls for Vector to ogle; Nic the Weasel, the real Fiona Fox, Ray the Flying Squirrel
Summary: Julie-Su is mad at Knuckles, so she goes out with some other guy for half a day. Vector tries to get laid and acts like an incel. Locke gives Knuckles the talk. Knuckles finally actually asks Julie-Su out, then has his 16th birthday party. In the backup story, Mighty, Nic, and Fiona rescue Ray from a time anomaly, and Fiona’s past is explained
Lasting Impact: Knuckles and Julie-Su are dating now. Nic, Fiona, and Ray stuck around as important characters in the main series
#29: My Special Friend
Characters Introduced: None (but this is only one issue)
Summary: Sally tries to get help from the Brotherhood now that Robotnik is back in the main series, but they refuse because Sally won’t use guns. Knuckles is a centrist who won’t firmly side with Sally, so she leaves angrily. Along the way, Sally rationalizes her dad’s attempt at Robian genocide
Lasting Impact: None
#30-32: King of the Hill (feat. Espio the Chameleon)
Characters Introduced: Monk, Hunter, Snowpidgeon, Aryu One-Two; Barney, Liza, and several other unimportant chameleons
Summary: Knuckles’ childhood bully, a large purple gorilla, returns to Angel Island after being yeeted into the ocean by the Brotherhood years ago. A human hunter named Hunter shows up to reenact The Most Dangerous Game. Monk falls during the fight and dies. Hunter is captured. In the backup story, Espio has a run-in with the roboticized Valdez, his apparent best friend, who he then murders
Lasting Impact: Hunter eventually made a minor appearance in a Bollers story years later. Valdez dies
Are you noticing a trend? Things keep happening in these stories, but it rarely has much of an impact. One of the Guardians was a traitor all along? Eh, doesn’t affect much. The Dark Legion candidate in the election ends up being a robot and dies? Eh, they had a replacement ready--but also, the election didn’t matter anyway.
Rarely do we learn anything of value about the characters. Knuckles doesn’t grow much as a person, and he never gets much of a personality. Julie-Su’s whole life revolves around being soul bound to Knuckles with only the faintest hint of her own personality. The Chaotix never contribute anything of value. When something comes up to make us question Locke and the Brotherhood, Penders then goes “No, no, it’s fine. Don’t worry about it.”
Supporting characters and subplots that go nowhere keep getting introduced just so it can feel like a lot is going on, but it’s all shallow. Knuckles has like 12 grandpas, most of whom are still alive, and only maybe three of them are distinct in any way. They all just talk like Penders, just like every character in these comics (except for Vector, who gets to be Urban). Things just keep happening around Knuckles, often without his actual involvement, while Penders says that every other arc is the biggest most important thing that’s ever happened.
It’s the oldest trick in comics. End on a cliffhanger. Say that NEXT ISSUE something interesting will DEFINITELY happen. Promise that the story is going somewhere. Just keep buying more issues! But the payoff never comes
While Sonic’s better stories have him sprinting around the world, the Knuckles series just plops him down on a treadmill for 35 issues. In the background, he’s listening to a boring documentary about echidna lore and genealogies
