[ID: Excerpt from The Picture if Dorian Gray: "The painter's absurd fits of jealousy, his wild devotion, his extravagant panegyrics, his curious reticences—he understood them all now, and he felt sorry. There seemed to him to be something tragic in a friendship so coloured by romance." //End ID]

something about patrick saying right before smfs dropped that he prefers to open a show because he can play fast and leave early and there are no expectations vs the final night of 2ourdust (an unplanned second leg of their wildly successful first tour) being the longest concert fall out boy has ever played in their entire run as a band featuring six surprise songs and at least one track from every album they've ever released. oh ok

what if: you are a boy. good, gentle, virtuous. strong. both burdened and honored by a role your father earned through his own merit, and passed on to you, through an accident of birth. you love your father with all your heart, and you aspire to be nothing more than like him. you feel the weight of that burden and that honor every day. you carry it well, but still, you are a boy, and it is a weight.
you are on the cusp of manhood and doing your utmost to carry the weight. someone thrusts you into an impossible choice: your soul in exchange for thousands, millions, perhaps. is this how to honor the burden you carry? it must be. surely this is the merit upon which nobility is built. it must mean something, for you to have been handed this choice; or if not, you must make it mean something. you are no longer a child, not quite a man. you pick up the burden. you carry the weight.
you become a man, and you see much of the world. you grow into a man's anger: the specific anger, resentful of the weight that you can never put down, and a general anger, too. anger that your situation is not unique. anger at the ways that the world cheats its people, anger because the foundations upon which nobility is built have begun to look suspiciously like graveyards for virtue. you carry the revenant of the man you wanted to be, for the boy that you were. you wear his face. he is a heavy ghost.
and then, suddenly, you are a man no longer. you are something worse, or maybe just something else. you carry the boy's dreams and the not-quite-man's choices and the man's anger, and now, you add the devil's exhaustion. because men may move among society regardless of what they carry. men, with their nobility and their rage, may walk among their peers and choose as equals. but devils? there is no foundation for a devil to fall back on: there is no nobility. there is no choice. all a devil can do is wear a leash. a devil is a tool. a beast of burden.
and you'd think it would have gotten easier as time went on, to shoulder these things. you are still you, are you not? (a question you ask yourself, in increasing desperation, each night and morning). you are still good, gentle, virtuous. but the weight. the weight. god, for a way to stop carrying the weight.

I just realized Jamie wasn't even the one to prevent Pam from being murdered. If Timeline 1 Chris hadn't killed his dad in 1987, then Timeline 2 Chris most likely would've still killed Pam in 2023.
Jamie literally doesn't save anyone.
