What do you think of God Help the Outcasts vs. Someday (Hunchback of Notre Dame) and I Won’t Say I’m in Love vs. I Can’t Believe My Heart (Hercules)? Do you think the filmmakers made the right choice in which songs to cut and which to keep?

I think the filmmakers did make the right choice in both cases.

I love "Someday." But I agree with the filmmakers that when Esmeralda's attempt to stand up to Frollo has failed and she's trapped in the cathedral, and when the Archdeacon has urged her to pray for the change she longs to see in the world, a humble plea to God is more fitting than a power ballad. And since part of the song's purpose is to be overheard by Quasimodo and increase his admiration for Esmeralda, her prayer for the outcasts and the downtrodden, and her selflessness as she prays only for others and not for herself, is more fitting than the abstract ideals described in "Someday."

As for "I Won't Say I'm In Love" vs. "I Can't Believe My Heart," there's no contest. "I Can't Believe My Heart" is a pretty song, but in Meg's own words, "It's too cliché," and out of character for Meg at that point in the story. She wouldn't give in to her feelings for Hercules so easily; she needs to resist them at first with all her might. "I Won't Say I'm In Love" is a fantastic and unique song, with the perfect balance between lightheartedness and genuine feeling, and between showing Meg's denial and puncturing it to reveal her love. It's no wonder that there are probably a thousand videos of the song on YouTube that apply it to virtually every other fictional character who falls in love but won't admit it. A standard romantic ballad can't compare.

💃🏽🐐 Much like the character of Pocahontas, Esmeralda from Disney’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” is another Disney character I find challenging to draw. Yet, after having watched the movie and listened to its audio commentary by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise (the movie’s directors) and Don Hahn (the producer), I still think of how to put my interpretation of Esmeralda on paper. I based this particular pose on a similar pose from the finale of her dance routine during the Feast of Fools celebration. Esmeralda’s lead animator was Tony Fucile, the same animator who animated Mufasa in “The Lion King”. ✨🔥

...or nobody will

No religious theology can ever get me the way that God Help the Outcasts got me as a kid. The way Esmerelda is in this terrible situation and explicitly prays for others instead of herself juxtaposed to the selfish prayers of the churchgoers had a huge impact on me to today

Bambi (1942) v The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)

Bambi: "April Showers" fantastically conveys the feelings and sounds of a shower through thunder storm in a beautifully musical creation. The score is also exceptional. After all, we don't see her death, it is the music (and Bambi's calling) that get to us.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame: What can we even say? Every song in this movie could hold the movie on it's own. "God Help the Outcasts" "The Bells of Notre Dame" "Hellfire" to name the top three mentioned. Whether you related to this soundtrack for the religious vibes or the personal revelations, it is a transcendent experience.

So it is almost 2 in the morning, but I was struck with this and none of my friends are in these Fandoms. The Concept! Wei Wuxian singing God Help the Outcasts in Xie Lian's temple. This would be while he and the Wen Remnants are living in the Burial Mounds. For Xie Lian it would be some point post-canon. I imagine that he would be more well known and respected, but there would still be some hints to his more modest past as a trash collecting god. This would be so cool! It almost makes me want to write a fanfic, but what I would really like is to read said fanfic or watch an animatic lol!

How the FUCK am I gonna talk about helstarova on here? Like I know I’m the ceo of crackships and all that jazz but when the angry book stans try to draw blood- which I’m preparing for- what will I do?!
