Glenstone’s (@glenstonemuseum) latest exhibition, Iconoclasts: Selections from Glenstone’s Collection, places Calder in conversation with other important twentieth-century artists, including his friends Arshile Gorky and Marcel Duchamp. Baby Flat Top, the sculpture on the left, debuted in 1946 at Galerie Louis Carré, Paris, in Calder’s first solo exhibition in postwar Europe. The standing mobile’s collapsible structure allowed the work to be sent overseas via the newly available international airmail system and reassembled upon its arrival in Paris.
