Hey There Darlin' - Chapter 4
A Glen Powell RPF Series
Comment if you'd like to be tagged! x
Tumblr media
Glen feels like he's buzzing.
Like the kind of buzzing you feel when you've had one too many cups of coffee, or a hit of pre workout just before a big gym session.
Except this time, he knows it has nothing to do with caffeine.
It's Billie.
He’s known her for less than twenty-four hours, but already he feels like he can’t get enough of her. Of her voice, her eyes, her lips, of her smile. Her fucking gorgeous smile.
Glen looks over when he sees a black Ford pick up pulling up a few spaces away, his eyes widening in surprise when he sees Billie step out of the car. He sucks in a breath as he looks her over, feeling his muscles clench as his eyes run over her body. Her thick legs, her round ass, her toned abdomen peeking out from beneath the cropped shirt she’s wearing. It’s enough to send him spinning.
Fuck.
He looks back at his reflection in his rearview mirror, running his fingers through his hair and putting his cap back on. He bares his teeth, checking for any missed pieces of food, before letting out a heavy breath and getting out of his car.
“Billie!”
Glen sees her look up at his call, a happy smile parting her lips when she sees him. He jogs the short distance over to her, watching as she puts her phone away and reaches up to shield her face from the afternoon sun.
“Nice wheels” he says, gesturing to her pick up behind her, Billie’s smile widening.
Tumblr media
“Thanks. I like yours too”.
Glen grins, glancing back over at his own Chevy Silverado, his big silver truck standing out like a shining beacon in the Ikea parking lot.
“Can I ask you a question?” Billie asks as they start walking towards the entrance, Glen watching the way her long ponytail bobs as she walks.
The colour reminds him of roasted espresso beans, with ribbons of warm chocolate rippling through.
“Shoot”.
“It must be really hard for you to just, go out shopping? I mean everywhere you go, you kind of risk being stampeded by fans” Billie says, looking at the building entrance and back at Glen, “It didn’t even occur to me what this might be like for you, and now I feel a bit stupid that I asked you to come along. To Ikea of all places”.
Glen laughs and shakes his head. “Billie, I’d have said yes to anything you said if it meant that I got to spend more time with you”.
Glen loves the way her smile grows then, the soft blush that creeps into her golden skin from his words.
She has no idea how fucking gorgeous she is.
“But to answer your question, yes, it can be hard. It’s not something I really thought about though, at least until Top Gun. That kind of changed everything”.
Billie laughs, and Glen immediately decides that her laugh is one of his new favourite sounds.
“I mean, not to go all fan girl on you, but I can see why that happened. You were pretty memorable in that movie” Billie says, offering a soft, sheepish smile and pulling her ponytail forward so that it tumbles down her shoulder.
“Yeah, as the asshole character” Glen replies, teasing another chuckle from Billie that makes his stomach flip.
“Well you did sort of save the day at the end, so perhaps that’s more the reason?” Billie reasons, her shoulders lifting in an adorable shrug, “Or you know, there’s the whole beach scene too, you were kind of gorg---, I mean, hard to forget in that”.
Glen turns to Billie with a raised eyebrow, willing her to continue talking. Instead he sees her mash her lips together, her eyes squeezing shut and her brow furrowing for a moment. She looks up at Glen a second later, her eyes big and beautiful, flashing with what Glen can only describe as embarrassment.
“I’m going to shut up now, because I’ve said too much and I’m making an idiot of myself”.
Glen drops his head back and laughs, clapping his hands together.
“You know, I’d be quite happy to recreate that scene for you if you really wanted to see it again. Private screening, just for you”
Billie laughs and shoves him playfully.
“You’re trouble, you know that?”
Glen doesn’t answer, instead flashing Billie his most charming grin.
“Alright so tell me, what kind of couch are we looking for?” Glen asks when they reach the entrance, cold, air-conditioned air blasting them as they walk through, “How many seats? Fold out? Material? Where is it going in your house?”
Billie bites her bottom lip again, and Glen has to put his hands on his hips to stop himself from grabbing her face and kissing her.
“I can’t answer any of those questions except that it’s going in my living room” Billie says, lifting her hands up in an I-don't-know-gesture’, the two walking through to the first of the showrooms.
“Okay so do you have any ideas of what you’re after then?” he asks, pausing when Billie leans over to run her hand over a navy throw blanket.
“A colour that Nugget’s fur won’t be so noticeable on. That’s about it so far”.
Glen laughs.
“Okay so no dark colours then” he says as they browse the concept bedroom, the theme an earthy mix of whites, browns and deep greens.
They move onto the next room - another bedroom, this one decorated in an urban, industrial theme. It’s all exposed brick walls and black fixtures, the bed linen a tangle of moody greys and dark navy. It reminds Glen of his own style at home, making him think of the dark charcoal sheets that are currently on his bed.
Sheets, he thinks, that would look great under Billie’s naked body.
Fuck.
His mind wanders for the tenth time since he’s been here, looking over to find Billie bending over to pick up and inspect a large terracotta coloured cushion. All of a sudden, his eyes are glued to her ass, her round, peachy ass in her bright blue, skin tight shorts.
He imagines it in just a pair of panties and nothing else, a deep wine colour, a tiny, lace and silk number that covers next to nothing. He imagines her bent over in front of him, a cheek in each of his hands, her skin soft and buttery smooth as he kneads her supple flesh.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Glen exhales deeply, squeezing his eyes shut and forcing himself to get his thoughts in check. He looks up a moment later to see Billie taking a photo of the tag on the cushion she's holding, before dropping it back onto the bed and making her way into the next room.
“Maybe suede?” Billie asks, running her hand over the back of a grey suede loveseat she's just stopped in front of, Glen following close behind.
“Probably not the best for fur though” Glen counters, Billie nodding in agreement and leaning her hip against the couch as she looks around the new room.
Glen hears laughter up ahead and he turns to see a group of girls walking towards the room they're in. There's four of them, all eighteen or so, laughing and chatting away at each other as they walk.
He exhales heavily through his nose. Young girls were always tough to deal with when he was out - they made the most noise. They also posted everything on social media.
The last thing he wants is fan attention when he's out with Billie, or worse, paparazzi following him in Ikea of all places. He knows from past experience it’s one of the quickest ways to freak out a girl he likes, particularly one that isn’t in the spotlight like Billie.
He has a split second to make a decision.
And so, he does.
“I think I like grey or ta--”
Billie’s words are abruptly cut short when Glen grabs her hand, pulling her into a nearby alcove behind the bedroom's wardrobe.
“Are we hiding?” Billie whispers after a moment, confusion evident on her face as she looks up at Glen in front of her.
He nods.
For a second he can’t think of anything except Billie, about how fucking gorgeous she is, about how right at this current moment she’s pressed up against him against a wardrobe, her fingers still wrapped in his.
Billie frowns, an amused, but confused expression on her face, Glen watching as she leans back to poke her head out of the alcove.
Glen sees her face transform with understanding when she sees what Glen is hiding from, the sound of the girls laughing and talking now evident inside the room. She leans back in towards Glen, a soft smile on her face, and it takes everything Glen has not to lean in and kiss her right there and then.
They both still when they hear the voices come closer, Glen's grip on Billie's hand tightening. He feels a momentary sting of alarm, all manner of potential scenarios now playing out in his head.
His chest tightens as he sucks in a deep breath, panic suddenly taking over his brain.
Fuck. Here we go.
He hears footsteps walk into the alcove and Glen isn't sure what to do, his thoughts immediately silenced when Billie reaches for his jaw and pulls his mouth to hers.
Oh, Billie.
In an instant every part of him relaxes, concerns from just a moment ago seemingly forgotten. Her lips are soft against his, moving against his in a tender kiss, her free hand cupping his jaw and holding his face to hers. He releases her other hand and searches for her waist, his fingers finding the bare skin beneath her short shirt and gripping at her warm flesh.
She's everywhere, all at once, the sweet taste of her mouth, the softness of her lips, the intoxicating scent of her skin, every single one of his senses suddenly drowning in her. Glen's heart races in his chest, his brain unable to think of anything else except Billie.
He hears the awkward stammering of the intruding girl, but it's barely audible above his heart beat in his ears. Just when Glen thinks he could die right here and now, Billie breaks away and turns her head, her hand still holding his face to her neck. He realises she’s shielding him, hiding his face from the unknown girl, his chest all but heaving as his mouth hangs less than an inch from her neck.
“Oh um, sorry” Billie says with a mischievous exaggerated giggle, the other girl muttering her own apology.
Glen barely listens as the girl backs away out of the alcove, unable to concentrate on anything except Billie's neck. He breathes in her scent, delicious and warm, forcing himself to stay still. It takes everything he has not to close that one inch gap and press his lips to Billie’s throat, every single fibre in his body screaming at him to drag his tongue along her skin.
Some part of him hears the girl return to her friends, the group giggling and quickly scurrying out of the showroom moments later. Reluctantly he pulls away when Billie releases his face, a heavy breath leaving his mouth as he does. Billie looks back at him with bright, wide eyes, Glen hyper aware that her chest is still pressed to his and his fingers are still gripping the warm skin of her waist. His thoughts are all but blank, except for how much he wants to do that all over again.
He's buzzing again, stronger now, the feel of Billie's lips against his seemingly burnt into his brain. He drops his head back against the wall behind him and looks down at her with an incredulous smile, words struggling to form in his mind.
Tumblr media
“Th---that was---”.
“Some quick thinking?” Billie interrupts, finishing his sentence for him and flashing a gentle grin.
He opens his mouth to speak but no words come out, Billie laughing and grabbing his hand from her waist. He says nothing as she wraps her fingers in his and steps away from him, pulling on his hand so that his body peels away from the wall and follows her back out into the bedroom.
“C'mon you, we've gotta find me a couch”.
---
Billie
“Are you sure you’re okay with those? I can carry one if you need”.
Glen looks down at her and shakes his head, two furniture flat packs nestled firmly under each of his arms. Billie forces herself to keep her eyes trained on his face, fighting the urge to stare at his thick biceps.
“No need darlin’, I got this”.
Billie exhales silently.
How is his voice so damn attractive?
How does he make that ONE WORD sound so damn attractive?
How is ALL of him so damn attractive?
She swallows thickly.
She still can’t believe how bold she’d been earlier, still not quite believing that she’d kissed Glen. It was a split second idea that needed a split second decision. And she’d done it without a second thought.
She’d kissed Glen Powell.
The look on his face when she’d pulled away had made it all worth it though, and it had taken everything she had not to lean back in and kiss him up against the wall of the Ikea wardrobe.
God.
To say she was attracted to him was an understatement, now even more so if that was even possible. To his gorgeous green eyes, his devastatingly sexy smile, his broad, muscled chest. If she were a cartoon, she was pretty certain she’d be drawn with permanent heart shaped eyes every time she looked at him.
Billie pulls out her keys when they reach her car, unlocking the tailgate and stepping back to allow Glen to unload the flat packs into her tray.
After much searching she’d ended up finding a couch she liked - an ‘L’ shaped three seater with a chaise extension, in a rich caramel coloured leather. There hadn’t been any left in stock though, so she’d instead ordered it, with delivery expected early next week.
She’d also found a new wooden end table and a small oak bookshelf that she loved, both of which Glen was currently hauling into her car.
Billie opens the front door of her pick up and throws the bag of assorted cream and grey cushions she'd also bought onto the passenger seat, closing the door and turning around in time to see Glen shutting her tailgate. He reaches up to readjust his hat, his sandy blonde hair peaking out from beneath it, an effortlessly handsome smile on his chiselled face.
Billie wonders idly if he has any idea of the effect he has on her. Or on women in general for that matter.
“So I know we’ve spent the better part of the afternoon together, and at the risk of sounding needy, can I ask what you’re doing for dinner?”.
Billie can’t help the smile that tugs at her lips then, her face falling a second later when she remembers she actually does have plans.
“I've actually got a dinner to go to, a house-warming barbecue up in the hills”.
She feels her heart fall when his face drops, and in an instant she wishes she hadn't RSVP'd to her Saturday night plans.
“My boss just bought a new place” Billie explains looking down at her hands and then back up at Glen again, “but---, I’m free all day tomorrow?”.
His face instantly lights up at her words and suddenly her heart is soaring again, his gorgeous grin returning.
“It’s a date”.
Billie laughs and tilts her head, raising an eyebrow. “Does that mean today counts as our first date then?”.
Glen shrugs adorably. “That depends”.
“On?”
“Whether or not you liked it. If you didn’t, then no, it doesn’t count and tomorrow can be our real first date”.
Billie laughs out loud, shaking her head so that her ponytail swishes along her shoulder.
“I like unconventional dates” she says lifting up her hands in a shrug, “There isn’t so much pressure”.
Glen nods in agreement.
“Unconventional” he says repeating her word as if he’s thinking of ideas, his grin suddenly growing even wider.
Billie laughs again, but she can't help the frown that suddenly bends her brow.
“All of a sudden I’m scared to ask about what you’ve now got planned for tomorrow”.
Glen winks conspiratorially.
Tumblr media
“I’ll message you with the time”.
“Can I at least have a hint?”
Glen shakes his head.
“Nope” he says, making the ‘p’ sound pop, “You said you like surprises”.
Bille laughs and rolls her eyes, immediately cursing herself for telling him that earlier.
“So I’ll see you tomorrow?” Glen says, pushing himself off her car and stepping towards her.
Billie only nods, a school-girl smile threatening to split her face.
She sucks in a breath when he leans in towards her, his lips grazing her cheek with a gentle kiss. She closes her eyes momentarily, opening them back up when he steps away, seeing him look down at her with a smile that makes her knees weak.
“Have a good night Billie”
Billie lets out a shaky, silent breath and smiles.
“You too Glen”.
He winks at her and suddenly Billie seriously considers cancelling her dinner plans, watching as he walks off towards his truck. He turns to look back at her when he reaches his car, that same damn gorgeous smile etched on his face as he waves at her. She stays frozen by her car, her mind reeling as she mentally goes over the afternoon she's just had, reaching up to wave back at him.
Moments later he's in his truck and driving away, leaving Billie standing alone in the Ikea parking lot with nothing but a stomach full of nerves and a mind full of excitement for tomorrow.

Brother's Best Friend - Part 11
Jake Seresin x F!Reader
A/N: Fair warning: I didn't have much time this week so this was a bit rushed and definitely not my best piece of work, but I really wanted to do at least *something* for the holidays!
Summary: The trials and tribulations of falling for your brother's best friend.
CW: New Years Eve party, banter, fluff fluff fluff
WC: ~2300
Part 1 | Masterlist
Tumblr media
“So,” Bradley starts slowly, drawing out a suspenseful silence with a smirk as he butters his toast. “I met study group guy.”
You look up from your plate in alarm, your fork halfway to your mouth, and awkwardly meet your brother’s gaze.
Jake, who’s just set his food down to your left, picks his coffee back up, ready to make a quick exit.
“Uh, where?” you ask, trying to sound casual, but you’re so nervous that your voice wavers.
“Here,” Bradley replies with a grin as he makes his way to the table. “He came by to see how your exam went.”
“Oh?” You gulp anxiously.
“How considerate of him,” Jake notes moodily, setting his coffee back down and giving you a look.
“I agree.” Bradley sits down. “I think he wanted to compare study strategies,” he continues, then clears his throat. “Since the two of you didn’t end up studying together.”
Jake’s eyes go wide as he lets out a feigned gasp. “You didn’t?”
You give Jake an annoyed look and then glance back at your brother who is watching you with a pair of raised eyebrows. “Yeah,” you nod, “about that. Umm, the thing is…”
“You lied?” Jake brings a hand to his chest as though this revelation continues to shock him.
You glare at him irritably. “Partly.”
“Which part?” Bradley enquires, biting into his toast.
You sigh. “The part about study group guy.”
Bradley grimaces. “Why?”
“Yeah,” Jake chimes in, finally taking a seat. “Why?”
“Because I obviously made the wrong decision studying at home,” you retort, eyeing Jake bitterly. “And I just needed somebody to blame.”
Jake watches you cautiously, likely wondering if you indeed think you’ve made a mistake. Good.
“So, you bombed your midterm, big deal.” Bradley waves a hand. “We wouldn’t judge you. Guess that means he won’t be attending tonight’s party.”
You purse your lips. “Nope,” you confirm. “I’ll be all alone.”
Jake tries to catch your gaze as you rise from the table. “We’ll be here.”
“Aren’t you gonna bring your girl?” Bradley asks.
“Nah.” Jake waves a hand.
“Why not?”
Jake eyes you pointedly. “Not really sure where we stand, to be honest.”
You gasp theatrically. “Oh dear! Trouble in paradise?”
Jake throws you a flat look and grumbles, “Well, she’s sort of hard to read at times.”
“Because you’re illiterate?” you retort.
Bradley snorts while Jake scoffs in offence. “Dump her!” Bradley cries as you bring your dishes to the sink. “Life’s too short for mysteries.”
Jake sighs. “She does love to keep me guessing.”
Bradley shakes his head in disapproval after taking his last bite. “She’s playing games with you, man. It’s not worth it.” He gets up and follows you to the sink. “How ‘bout you? You need a date for tonight?”
“Huh?” you say in surprise, having been under the impression that your turn under the microscope was over.
“Remember that dude you met at the Hard Deck last summer? The one you said was ‘so hot’” – Bradley visibly shudders – “I just found out that he’s into you.”
“What dude?” Jake asks abruptly, his posture instantly going rigid.
“The one from 22,” Bradley clarifies. “The backseater. Forgot his name.”
“The douche from Michigan?” Jake makes a face and quickly rises from the table. “You think he’s hot?” he asks you incredulously.
Before you have a chance to respond, Bradley continues. “Apparently he ran into you last week at the café?”
You blink between Bradley and Jake as the latter approaches. While it’s true that you saw one of Bradley’s colleagues the previous week, you’ve since forgotten all about that encounter, because the very next day was when Jake had finally made his move. You start to back out of the kitchen but both Bradley and Jake follow you out. “I have some errands to run,” you say quickly.
“Nothing’s open,” Jake reminds you.
“Do you want me to invite him tonight or not?” Bradley asks, already scrolling through his contacts.
Jake elbows Bradley aggressively. “You’re seriously trying to get your sister laid?”
Bradley cringes. “Dude! Don’t go there!”
Jake stares at Bradley. “What do you think is gonna happen?”
You scoff at Jake incredulously. “Excuse me?”
Jake turns to look at you and places his hands on his hips with an impatient exhale. “I didn’t mean it like that.”
“I just don’t want her to be alone on New Years!” Bradley exclaims, still looking down at his phone.
“She’s not gonna be!” Jake cries desperately.
“I don’t want the date, Bradley,” you say, putting on your shoes despite having absolutely nowhere to go.
“Why not?” Bradley enquires.
“I just don’t. I’m fine with being alone.”
“You won’t be alone,” Jake repeats, the frustration in his voice noticeably mounting.
“I thought you liked him,” Bradley says, slightly deflated. Clearly, he assumed that he was doing you a favor.
“I don’t even know him,” you say. “I just thought he was good-looking, that’s all.”
Jake makes a face. “He’s not.”
You roll your eyes. “Appearance is subjective.”
Jake stubbornly shakes his head but makes no further comment.
“Okay, so why not give him a chance?” Bradley presses. “It’s not like you’re seeing someone. Right?”
You give Jake a quick glance before conducting a thorough examination of your own shoes. “Well, kind of.”
“Kind of?” Jake asks, slightly panicked.
You continue studying your feet. “I think.”
“Who is he? What’s he like?” Bradley asks.
“Uh,” you stall, “he’s alright.”
Jake lets out a muffled cry. “Alright?” he asks and you try not to wince at his utterly obvious outrage.
Meanwhile, Bradley raises an eyebrow. “Wow,” he says wryly. “Sounds promising.”
“What else?” Jake says quickly.
You look up at him in disbelief. “Occasionally aggravating.”
Bradley appears puzzled. “Why are you with this guy?”
Jake squares his shoulders. “He must be extremely handsome.”
Bradley looks back at you. “Is he?”
You roll your eyes. “He’s cute.”
“Cute?!” Jake exclaims.
Bradley laughs. “I really think you should give my guy a try.”
Jake crosses his arms over his chest and stands up taller. “I’m sure there’s more to this guy than just… his looks.” He’s blatantly searching your face now, as if Bradley isn’t even present.
You start to nervously fix your hair in the mirror at the front door. “I’m not interested in your guy, Bradley.”
“Why not?”
“Because…” You sigh resignedly while Jake watches your reflection. “I… I like my guy.”
Jake stares at your face in the mirror as if this is news to him. Then, his mouth slips momentarily into a smile before he sucks in his cheeks to hide it.
Bradley grimaces. “Why?”
“Because, he’s…” another reluctant sigh, “…he’s a good guy.”
“That’s kind of vague,” Jake comments, still trying to suppress a grin.
You shoot him a glare while Bradley chuckles. Then, he says, “Alright, fine. Maybe in a couple of weeks when you’re single again.”
Jake looks at Bradley sharply. “Why would she be single again?”
“Come on, when was the last time my sister liked a guy enough to stay with him long-term? She finds something wrong with everyone she dates.”
Jake shifts his weight uncomfortably. “Maybe this one will stick.”
“Doubt it.” Bradley shrugs.
“This one’s different, Bradley,” you say quietly, turning to face them again.
Jake looks back at you. “He is?”
“How so?” Bradley asks.
You pause, hesitant to reveal the truth. “He… makes me feel…”
Bradley watches you dubiously. “Pretty?”
Jake also takes a stab: “Aroused?”
You let out a weary sigh and lock eyes with Jake. “Safe.”
He stares at you with a stunned expression while Bradley nods approvingly.
“Happy,” you continue.
This time, Jake doesn’t hide his smile, but Bradley raises his eyebrows as though your response has surprised him.
“Strong,” you say.
“Wow,” Bradley mutters.
Jake lowers his gaze with a grin, but you decide to add, “And aroused, I mean –”
“Oh god!” Bradley exclaims.
Jake chuckles, glancing up at you again.
Bradley shakes his head. “I get it, you’re in love. But, Seresin – I just remembered: I’ve got the perfect girl for you!” He holds up his phone, beaming.
Bradley decides to invite the perfect girl just in case because he can see how much his dear friend has suffered at the hands of his mysterious lover. And the perfect girl just happens to be Jake Seresin’s exact type. You try to ignore her flirtatious behavior while Bradley all but pushes Jake in her direction. Your brother seems so keen to set Jake up, you start to wonder what his vested interest might be.
There are enough people in attendance that you can watch Jake without worrying about anyone noticing that you’re staring. So, you pour yourself a fourth martini and head back into the living room to see what your brother’s best friend is up to. You barely make it past the couch, however, when someone you’ve only met once in your life takes your hand and starts encouraging you to spin under his arm.
You glance over at Jake, whose date is also trying to get him to dance. Taking a sizeable gulp of your drink, you follow through with the spin and smile uncomfortably at your new dance partner. The room is bustling because the ball is about to drop and everyone has gathered for the countdown, so you’re forced to crane your neck every so often in order to check on Jake.
He notices your new friend right away, locking eyes with you despite his own supposed date trying to monopolize his attention. You wish you could steal a moment with him when the new year arrives, but Bradley would notice his friend’s absence in a heartbeat considering he’s been tailing Jake all night, making sure that he was having a good time.
When the champagne flutes start making their rounds and the crowd erupts in an enthusiastic countdown, however, Jake separates from his friends and starts making his way through the bodies toward you. He nods his head in the direction of the hall before he’s even come near you, inviting you to join him. But you glance back at Bradley and see that he is already searching for Jake in the crowd that’s suddenly doubled in size as everyone has made their way into the living room.
You shake your head at Jake regrettably. The last thing you need is for the year to start with Bradley walking in on the two of you making out.
Jake gestures more vigorously with his head, urging you to follow and, when you refuse, he moves closer and reaches out to grab your hand. You don’t resist when he pulls you in and, before you can check to see if Bradley has finally given up his search, the clock strikes midnight, and Jake takes your face in his hands and kisses you right there in the middle of the living room amidst the explosion of cheers that welcome the new year.
You hope there is enough commotion in your vicinity to obscure the way Jake’s hands slide sensually down to your neck and then take your shoulders as he steers you through the crowd out of the room, his lips avidly devouring yours the entire time. Somehow, the two of you make it out without even looking up and, once you’re more or less alone, Jake mutters, “Your brother is getting real fucking annoying.”
You chuckle as he plants kisses along your jawline. The two of you are still moving through the house, into the darkness of the entry hall. “He’s been extra involved today,” you agree.
“He’s been fucking annoying,” Jake repeats, sucking on the side of your neck as you come to a halt in the foyer and he wraps his arms around you.
“He’s your best friend,” you remind him.
Jake presses you gently against the front door and licks your earlobe, whispering, “Who the fuck were you dancing with?” You giggle and feel his lips spread into a smile against your skin. “Oh, you think that’s funny?” he asks, and you feel his tongue on your ear again. “You think it’s funny that I had to actively restrain myself from socking him?”
“What about you?” you say, still laughing. “You were with that girl all night!”
Jake whimpers into your neck and his hold on you tightens. “All I wanted was this.” You close your eyes when his mouth finds yours once more. “My new year’s resolution is that I’m never gonna stop kissing you,” he mutters between pecks to your lips.
You giggle again and then sigh, slightly pushing him away. “What are we going to do?”
“I just told you what I’m going to do,” he says, going in for another kiss.
You turn your head and he ends up kissing your cheek. “This is how we’re going to spend the new year? Sneaking around? Hiding in dark corners?”
Jake exhales slowly, resting his forehead on your temple. “I’m going to tell him,” he assures you.
“What are you going to tell him?” you ask, hoping that this question might lead Jake to reveal the nature of your relationship as he sees it.
He leans away from you and looks you in the eye. “That I make you feel aroused, of course.” Your jaw drops in outrage and you let out a yelp that quickly turns into a cackle. Jake is grinning widely, pleased with the effectiveness of his joke. Then, he draws you closer and his face changes shape. He squares his jaw and you see the evidence of a nervous gulp in the bob of his Adam’s apple. “I’m gonna tell him that you’re the girl I told him about,” he says, his tone low but steady. You gaze at him in silence, afraid to move a muscle lest he reconsider the sudden sincerity of his words. “The one I can’t stop talking about.” He swallows again. “The one I’ve been obsessing over.” He pauses to study your reaction as though he’s afraid he might be scaring you off. “The one that I – uh” – he takes a deep breath and then lets out a chuckle, shaking his head. He takes your hands in his and weaves his fingers through yours, tugging you forward until his lips connect with the tip of your nose. “Oh god, Baby B,” he says, leaning into you affectionately. “I should probably stop talking now.”
*That's all folks! Happy New Year!*

word count: 4.1k
warnings: smut, allusions to smut, swearing, cheese tbh, pet names, m*verick, jake being jake >:) MDNI 18+

1.
“Are you sure we should be doing this?” you whisper into Jake’s ear as he drags you along a corridor towards the hangar that contains his and the dagger squad’s F-18s.
“Definitely not, but I need you to see this.” Jake chuckles from in front of you.
That does nothing to settle the nerves in your stomach as he turns abruptly, hand still nestled in yours pulling you around the corner with him.
The ‘room’ Jake has pulled you into isn’t really a room at all. It’s a large Hangar with tall ceilings that make you fear that if you speak it will echo throughout the whole building. Jake looks down at you and smiles at your awestruck face.
“Welcome to my world sweets.”
You roll your eyes at his cheesy line and walk towards the jet that has Jake’s name plastered onto the side of it.
“Lieutenant Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin,” you read to yourself, tracing your fingers over the black lettering.
“My two girls in one room,” Jake chuckles into your ear, wrapping his arm around your waist. He strokes lightly against the material of your sundress. It’s his favourite one, it’s cream coloured and is covered in a ditsy floral pattern. He smiles as you look up at him,
“But who do you love more?” You giggle and wait for his response.
Jake clutches his chest dramatically and whines, “You’re not being fair! I can love two things equally.”
You pout playfully and jest, “Well you won’t mind sleeping in here with her then, will you?”
Jake laughs loudly and points out your bluff, “You’d never kick me out of bed, your feet would get too cold.”
You make a ‘hmph’ noise and turn on your feet to the exit of the hangar. Jake is quick on your tail and hauls you into the air forcing you to wrap your legs around his waist as you look up at him now face to face.
“Don’t be like that baby, you know you’re my favourite.” He simpers.
You giggle, “I know, I just like making you sweat.”
Jake squeezes your cheeks into a kissy face and pecks you on the lips, “You’re such a minx.”
Carrying you back towards his jet, he plants you down on the ground and finally reveals his plan to you.
“Jake what if i’m sick all over your plane then you hate me forever!”
“I’ll go slow for you sweetheart, I always do,” Jake winks at you.
You scoff, as he helps you into the back seat of his jet and plant yourself down in the seat. Before Jake gets the chance to sit down, you look around the interior of the jet and something catches your eye. In the cockpit there’s a few small Polaroids. Jake had always loved taking photos, he had a small Polaroid camera which he carried almost everywhere with him, and a stack of photos building up just of you. As you look to the photos you see one of them is of him and his two nieces sat in the grass on a sunny day, another of his family dog from back home and the last picture is one of you that you didn’t recognise. You’re curled into his chest with his hoodie on and you’re asleep with a pout on your face. You want to complain about the less than flattering angle but your heart flutters from the intimacy of the picture and you can’t feel it in you to be angry at all. Instead you hum slightly and reach forward to kiss Jake’s shoulder as he finally sits in the seat in front of you. He seems slightly bashful as he realises you’ve seen the pictures.
“For luck.”
You grin and decide not to prod him further. Taking off, your stomach swoops and you worry about the interior of Jake’s jet being covered in your dinner for a brief moment before your breath is taken away.
The sun is setting and Jake is flying the jet in the direction of the beach. You suddenly understand his insistence on bringing you up here. Jake thinks he’s cheesy so he doesn’t say it aloud, but whenever flight tests run late and the sun sets whilst he’s still in the sky he always thinks of you. It’s beautiful and the colours bleed together as the sun dips lower and lower and all he can think about is how much he wants to share this with you. So he did.
“Thank you for bringing me up here.” You speak into the microphone of the flight helmet you’re wearing.
“It’s my pleasure sweetheart.”
You look down and notice you’ve flown past the Hard Deck, it was a hard sight to miss and golden lights twinkle around it in the dusk. It’s mostly empty as Penny has closed it for the night, but you think you spotted the tiny blur of Maverick’s motorcycle in the parking lot.
Maverick and Penny are sat together on the benches that stand outside the Hard Deck on the beach front. Unbeknownst to you, Maverick had helped Jake plan to sneak you into base for your sunset joyride. He understood how important it was for Jake to show you the thing he loved so dearly. It was the same for him way back when with your aunt. Penny gasps as she looks up to see the jet soar by,
“Please tell me my niece isn’t up there.” She states rather than questions.
“Okay, I won’t then.” Maverick smiles into her shoulder.
She smacks him lightly but it lacks anger, Penny would never admit this but she was glad you had fallen for Jake rather than any of the others. She can’t help but smile back as she thinks about her first time up in a fighter jet with the pilot sat next to her. She wants to be worried but she knows you’re in perfectly safe hands, Jake’s charm and incredible skill always did remind her of someone who she knew so well.
2.
You and Jake had been together for two months now but he had yet to sleep round at yours. You were apprehensive, living with your aunt and younger cousin meant a lack of privacy mostly, and said privacy was not an issue when staying at Jake’s small rented beach cottage. So it had always seemed the obvious to go to his. Neither of you had ever had an issue with this, which is why Jake was so surprised to receive a text from you half way through his day off.
baby ♥️
come to mine tonight?
pen and amelia are out btw
You and Jake had planned for you to stay at his tonight, you’d promised to cook for him and he’d been hoping to thank you in many different ways and positions. But he couldn’t help but feel slightly giddy at the prospect of being able to stay round yours. He felt a bit like his 16 year old self again when his then girlfriend would invite him round with the promise of her parents being out of town and it made him chuckle.
cowboy ❤️
sounds perfect
you want me to cook?
baby ♥️
what type of host do you think i am ?!
ofc not
cowboy ❤️
just checking sweets
As it turns out, not much cooking happened anyways. Jake had decided your attire of denim shorts and a cropped tank top were entirely too indecent for an evening in and he decided to show that to you.
“Do you know what you do to me sweets?” Jake pants into your neck. You’d managed to persuade him to make it to your bed before you defiled the kitchen counter but half your clothing had been discarded up the stairs and across the landing leading to your room.
“I think I have a pretty good idea,” you giggle breathlessly, whining slightly as Jake hits just the right spot. He continues on at his impressive pace, your back arching up so your chests meet and he kisses sloppily down along your neck. His hands have a tight grip on your hips whilst yours tangle in his soft hair, it’s silky and feels smooth against your fingers without his gel that usually neatens it out.
“Shit, I’m close.” Jake groans into your neck. You squirm as his pace quickens further and he reaches down to circle your clit. You gasp, high pitched sending him over the edge. He spills into the condom and slumps onto you, breathing hard.
You stroke Jake’s hair and he speaks, “I love you.”
You smile at his admission, “I love you too, baby.”
He looks up at you from where his head is resting on your chest and your heart clenches. You surge forward and he pulls upright so you can clash your lips together messily, it’s sloppy mostly but neither of you care. He cards his fingers through the mess of hair at the back of your head and you whimper against his lips. The kiss is heated as Jake guides you back down against the pillow and starts to lead his lips down your throat, sucking with pressure into your pulse point.
That’s when you hear the front door slam shut.
“Darling? Are you home?” Your aunt calls.
You hear a mumbling of voices, Amelia is with her.
“Oh god,” You whine in to Jake’s chest, embarrassed.
He chuckles, rolling off of you to lay next to you, he’s finding the situation rather amusing until he realised all his clothes are strewn across the stairs where he can hear two sets of footsteps ascending.
“Whose shirt is this?” You hear Amelia ask her mother, confused about the item of clothing that appeared quite masculine and nothing anyone in her household of women would wear.
You yell out in a panic, “Uh yeah I’m in my room! Just getting changed.”
Jake looks at you concerned, as your aunt replies from seemingly outside of your door.
“Okay, well we’ll be downstairs.”
You can practically hear her smirk through the door.
You exhale deeply and look at Jake, you both struggle to contain your giggles as you shush him, smushing your finger against his lips. Finally hearing their footsteps fade away, you begin.
“You’ve gotta leave, I’m the example for Amelia and now she’s gonna think I’m a total slut!”
Jake laughs but quietens himself when he realises you’re being serious.
“Doll, she won’t think that she loves you!”
You smile at Jake’s sweet attempt to cheer you up but continue, “Baby as sweet as you are you still need to leave, I can’t have the first time you’re round my house meeting my family be when they’ve interrupted our second round.”
Jake chuckles but nods, understanding your worry. He goes to stand and heads for the bedroom door but you stop him in his tracks,
“Where are you going?” You question.
“To get my clothes?” Jake replies, brows scrunched in confusion.
“You cant go out there! They’ll see you!” You whisper shout, “I’ll get them.”
You pull on a pair of cotton pyjama shorts and a large t shirt that you had discarded on your bedroom floor and tip toe out onto the landing where you grab Jake’s boxers. Jake’s grey shorts lay on the top few steps but his shirt had been discarded near the bottom steps with his shoes. You lean down and grab his shorts as realise you can’t see your aunt and niece anywhere near the living room that feeds off from the staircase. As hurriedly and quietly as you could, you race to get his shirt and shoes before one of them could appear to question you. With his clothes in tow, you creep back upstairs to where you had left Jake in your room.
When you step into your room, you notice Jake is no longer sat on your bed. He’s stood looking at your bookshelf browsing his eyes across the books stored there. He takes notice of the ones with the most battered spines and makes a mental note to pick them up somewhere to read. It’s a funny, albeit sweet sight, watching your 6’1 boyfriend stood stark naked looking lost in thought in front of your bookshelves.
“Here’s your clothes babe,” you speak, pulling him from his trance. He looks slightly embarrassed but recovers quickly and takes his clothes, stepping into his boxers first. As he dresses you admire him, giggling as he makes a show out of sliding his shorts up and pulling his shirt down over his chest.
Finally dressed he speaks, “You want me to go out the window, don’t you?”
You chuckle and shrug your shoulders apologetically, “I promise I’ll bring you here properly and introduce you soon.”
He smiles and walks over to kiss you, “You’re lucky I love you.”
You bask in his comment shyly and wait until he’s at your window to speak, “I love you too cowboy, text me when you get home.”
He nods and blows you a kiss before opening your window and making his careful exit. The drop isn’t too small by any means, but he lands rather gracefully with his knees bent. Jake stands up to his full height and makes eye contact with two women staring out from the kitchen window.
Penny chuckles at him, already aware that Jake was the man in her house when her and Amelia had arrived home earlier than schedule from their visit to Mav’s hangar. Amelia waves at him with a smirk on her face and Jake awkwardly waves back. He swears he hears Amelia speak to her mother,
“I knew she had someone up there with her! None of us would wear a shirt that colour!”
Jake laughs, knowing you’re going to get an earful later and saunters off towards his truck.
You’re pretty content with how your plan worked out as you lie back against your pillows, before your cousin bursts into your room squealing.
“I wanna know everything about him! Wait is he that cute pilot I always see you talking to at the Hard Deck? Oh my god he totally is!”
You let her gush, reminding yourself how excitable you were as a young teen and look up to the doorway to make eye contact with your smiling aunt.
She cant help but feel transported back to the first time your mother (her younger sister) had found out she had been seeing one of the hot shot pilots her father had always warned her of. She sends a wink your way and listens as you try to answer Amelia’s questions as family friendly as possible.
3.
Penny’s heart clenched as she looked to your tear stained face. You and her had decided to do a rom com marathon to distract you from your emotions but clearly it hadn’t been working.
Jake had announced to you yesterday that he would be on deployment for 90 days in a weeks time. You had put on a brave face in front of him, claiming you’d miss him dearly but be okay whilst you waited back home. Once you left his place you had cried in your car firstly, then on the drive back when a song that reminded you of Jake played, and then finally into the arms of your aunt once your arrived home.
Penny knew of the difficulties of loving a naval aviator, her father had been one as well as her boyfriend and she was well aware of the heartbreak deployment often brought. Over the years she had learnt ways to deal with how she felt and was no longer affected in such a way. However, watching you live through the stages she once had to made her slightly woeful as well.
Hearing you sniffle, Penny decides to speak up, “You shouldn’t ignore him sweetheart, you’ll regret it when he’s gone.”
You look up at her, unimpressed with what is actually good advice. You sigh weakly and let her continue.
“Tell him how you feel,” you interrupt her quickly, “I don’t want him to be feel bad for me! He has his own worries he shouldn’t have to think for me.”
It’s now Penny’s turn to sigh at your words, “You and I both know Jake, and we know that he does that anyway. You’re just worrying him, more by avoiding him.”
You look up from where you’ve been playing with your hands and make eye contact with her. You know she’s right but it tastes so bitter to admit it. She smiles slowly as she sees you come to realisation. You stand abruptly from the couch and walk to the door, picking up your keys from the table as you go.
“Where are you going?” Penny questions, already knowing the answer.
You roll you eyes playfully at her, “don’t make me say it,” you pout before admitting your planned route.
But as you open the door, you spot something you weren’t expecting. Jake is pacing your porch and looks up at the sound of you opening the door.
He smiles sheepishly at you, “I was about to knock, I promise.”
You lock eyes with Jake and the tears come flowing out, “I’m sorry for ignoring you! I’m scared to be without you for so long but I didn’t want you to waste time feeling bad about me!”
Jake pulls you into his arms and rests his head above yours, “No time spent thinking about you is wasted, sweets.”
You giggle at how he manages to be cheesy even when you’re both so upset. You press your lips to his, savouring in how it feels wary that you won’t be able to do that for the next three months. You feels tears start to brim in your eyes again but Jake flicks them away.
“I don’t want my best girl to be upset, please baby.” Jake speaks.
You give him a watery smile and he laughs. He doesn’t really know how he’s supposed to be away from you for the next few months when he can’t even let you go from the hug.
“I’ll write to you every day,” you promise him.
“Oh, I’m counting on it doll.” Jake smirks into your hair.
Jake regrets his words when a week into his deployment he receives a thick letter written in your delicate handwriting. He makes the mistake of opening it whilst sat on the bunks next to Coyote and begs him to never mention the fact that he has now seen a few more risquée Polaroids of you than he had bargained for that morning.
+1
Jake had finally allowed himself to be excited about seeing you again now that he only had one day left of his deployment. Your letters and photos could only do so much to appease how much he needed to see you and hold you in real life. You had invaded his mind wholly for the past three months and it sent his heart racing slightly at thought of finally getting to see you again.
Knowing you would have your boyfriend back tomorrow had you slightly giddy as you wiped down the bar tops at the Hard Deck, whistling a song Jake had played to you many times before.
As you wiped you thought about having him all to yourself again, having his strong hands on your hips and his lips on your mouth but also him resting his head on your chest or letting you play with his hair.
As you continued to whistle, your aunt pushes her way through the double doors which lead to the kitchen and storage area of the Hard Deck. She smiles as she notices your significant change in demeanour from the months past and speaks up.
“Ready to close up for the night?” She questions.
“Absolutely.” You smile at her.
Penny would have loved to tease you for your lovesick behaviour, but she too was elated for tomorrow. Maverick had been sent away as well, to oversee any training taking place and although she would like to think she has a slight amount more emotional maturity due to her age she was still as giddy as you were on the inside.
You link arms with her as you walk to the car both now humming the tune to the last song that had been playing on the jukebox before you closed up for the night.
Waiting with the rest of the families for the aviators to arrive back feels surreal. It’s a warm day and your wearing Jake’s favourite sundress with some wedges that are verging on uncomfortable but look great with the outfit. You cant quite believe you’re going to see him again.
You’re looking across at the sea of family members, and make eye contact with Bob’s girlfriend. She smiles at you and waves before turning back to the matured woman she’s stood next to who you can only assume is Bob’s mother. You turn back to Penny and squeeze her hand as you see the first of the aviators leave the ship.
They come out in streams of khaki uniforms and you can’t help but smile at thought of seeing Jake in his own uniform. It always fit slightly too tightly over his biceps, making it mostly uncomfortable for him but extremely worth it for you.
Maverick is one of the first to leave the carrier along with the rest of the higher ranked officers. He makes his way quickly over to Penny but not before smiling politely at you. You move to the side slightly to give them their own space as well as giving you a better view of the people still leaving the carrier.
You let anxiety eat at your stomach a little the longer it takes for you to spot Jake. You wonder if he’ll even be excited to see you, if he’s grown tired of you over the months he’s been away. But all those worries are swept away as you spot Jake leaving the carrier walking next to Rooster and Coyote. Bob is slightly ahead of them and beelines for his girlfriend. You watch as Jake scans the crowd of people for you before you lock eyes.
He zones in on you and suddenly has urgency in his steps. Jake realises he has definitely knocked over some younger pilots and at least one small child in his march to get to you but he can’t find it in him to care. Not when his girlfriend is looking radiant as ever and waiting for him after three months.
Tired of waiting on him you run as fast as your wedges allow to make up for the distance and jump into his arms. You pepper kisses all over his face and finally land one on his lips, you go to pull away but he holds you there and deepens the kiss. You allow him to for a moment but you’re still aware of your surroundings so you pull away and rest your forehead against his.
“I missed you.” You speak against his lips.
You can feel him smiling.
“I missed you more.”
You mock sigh exasperatedly and roll your eyes, “God, do you have to make everything a competition?”
He laughs like he hasn’t in months, and pulls you in for a kiss again. You signal for him to let you down but he keeps you in his grip as you make you way over to Maverick and Penny who had just been watching you.
Penny watches you and your boyfriend giggle as he spins you around, holding the edge of your dress tight to your body so it doesn’t fly up. She squeezes Mav’s hand as she remembers how her and Pete could never reunite in such ways. Her father had been strict about her not fraternising with the pilots, let alone cocksure ones like Maverick, so she had never truly been able to settle down with him.
It delights her to see you like this with Jake because it makes her realise that you aren’t her and Maverick. You’re completely different, in the best way possible.
Jake finally sets you down so you can all greet each other. He nods to Maverick and hugs Penny before returning to your side, hoping he never has to leave it again.

A/N - Sorry about the wait! Here is part 2 of this. I am open to doing a part 3, or basically anything with the two of them "telling" the rest of the group. Leave a comment or send something to my inbox if there's anything you want to see from me/with these two! Also Bradley isn't even in this technically, but in this au he is a major himbo if that wasn't obvious already, but we love him. Okay, happy reading!!!
Tumblr media
The mini fan Jake had packed was propped up on the side table, blowing a weak stream of air your way but doing absolutely nothing to lessen the sweltering August heat. Huffing loudly, you stopped bouncing on the exercise ball and used your forearm to wipe the sweat from your forehead.
A hum of satisfaction drew your attention to Jake, who was lounging on the hospital bed eating a sandwich he packed before you guys left. Another noise left his mouth as he took another bite, completely oblivious to the murderous glare you were sending his way.
“Ya know, you have an awful lot of trust in the idea that I won’t come over there and smother you and that damn sandwich with a pillow.” Jake’s eyes widened and his chewing halted at your threat, before a smug grin took over his face.
“Now darlin’, I don’t know about the pillow, but I’ll let you smother me with somethin’ else if you want,” He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively. You stared at him, your face deadpan, before pulling a hair elastic off your wrist and slingshotting it at his forehead.
“Hey! Don’t damage government property!” He whined, rubbing where the elastic hit him.
You rolled your eyes, “Whatever. Come help me up so I can go sit on my hospital bed.” Jake quickly placed the sandwich on the table next to the fan before rushing over to your side. Grabbing your outstretched hands, he slowly pulled you up off the ball before helping you waddle over to the bed.
With Jake’s help, you eased yourself onto the bed, sitting cross-legged rubbing your rounded belly. Your stomach growled, hunger overtaking your senses. You hadn’t been allowed to eat anything since you were admitted that morning, but seeing as you had been in labor for eight hours since then, you were absolutely starving. Moving ever so slowly, you reached over to the side table, picking up Jake’s half-eaten sandwich as he dug through your hospital bag.
“Here, I got you–Woah, woah, woah. Hand over the sandwich, little lady.” Damn it.
You froze, sandwich halfway to your mouth. Jake’s outstretched hand motioned for you to give it up, and you sighed, placing the sandwich in his palm. “But Jaaaaake, I’m starving.” You whined irritably.
“Hi, Starving, I’m Dad.” He winked.
If looks could kill, Jake Seresin’s body would be unidentifiable, yet the look on your face did nothing to wipe the goofy grin off his face. His green eyes sparkled with mischief, absolutely delighted with himself. You hoped your son got his eyes. And that sweet Seresin smile. You fought off a small grin, and groaned, “Can you please just tell your son to stop taking his sweet time so that I can finally eat something?”
Jake pulled one of the chairs up to the edge of the bed before leaning over and gently cradling your bump. Nine months in and you still got butterflies at the feeling of his big, warm hands on your stomach.
You always knew you wanted children someday, and while these were certainly not the circumstances you had always envisioned, the thought of a little tiny baby, half-you and half-Jake Seresin, made your heart squeeze.
As he pressed kisses and mumbled words to your hospital gown-covered belly, you delicately carded your fingers through his soft blond hair. Everything about your pregnancy felt like a whirlwind. The past nine months had flown by, riddled with anxiety about motherhood and what life would look like after the baby arrived, but right now, with Jake right next to you, you felt oddly at peace. You couldn’t help but think back to how stressed and anxious you had been to tell him you were pregnant.
—--------
You paced the living room anxiously, your mind running a mile a minute. You could hear the clock ticking slowly in the kitchen, reminding you that any second, Jake Seresin’s truck would be pulling into your driveway.
The knot in your stomach was getting tighter with each passing second. What if he got mad? What if he didn’t believe that the baby was his? What if he didn’t want anything to do with the baby? What if he didn’t want anything to do with you?
You knew it was unfair to assume the worst about Jake. People could say whatever they wanted about Hangman, but Jake Seresin had never been anything but sweet and genuine with you. A little cocky, maybe, but he’d never given you any reason to believe he’d leave you hanging.
Selfishly, you also wondered what this would mean for the two of you. You’d always had a thing for Jake, and you were secretly hoping after the two of you hooked up, it would become something more, but a baby just complicated all of that. You wanted him to want you for you, not just because you were having his baby.
The slamming of a truck door pulled you from your thoughts. You tried to psych yourself up as you went to let him in. It’s gonna be fine. You’re just gonna sit him down and rip the bandaid off. It’ll be fine. Everything’s gonna be fine. What could possibly go wrong?
“Hi,” You breathed out, “Thanks for coming over.”
“Of course.” Jake grinned, stepping inside. You internally groaned as you took in his appearance. His dark blonde hair was messy, yet somehow looked perfectly styled. His navy blue jacket was pulled off, revealing a tight white t-shirt underneath, paired with lighter wash jeans which covered his toned legs. How was it fair that he looked so good all of the time?
You shook your head, trying to get rid of the dirty thoughts that were quickly filling it. You waited as he toed his boots off and hung his jacket on a hook by the door before leading him to the couch.
“So,” You started, “I asked you to come over because I need to talk to you about something,”
Jake watched you carefully as you went on, “Do you remember that night we spent together, about a month ago?”
A knowing smirk took over his face, “You know I do, honey. Is that what this is about?”
“Well, yeah, you see–”
“Darlin’, I know we agreed on it being a one-time thing, but if you wanted it to happen again, all you had to do was ask.”
“Ok, but Jake, that’s not–”
“Y’know, I’ve actually been thinking about it too and–”
“Jake, I’m pregnant.” And off comes the bandaid.
His face was frozen in place. You felt like you could see the gears turning inside his head. The blonde carefully got to his feet, slowly pacing in front of the couch.
“O-okay, so,” He glanced at you, an unreadable expression on his face, “So you’re pregnant?”
You nodded gently, getting to your feet. You stood in front of him, halting his movement. Your hands wrapped around his strong, muscular biceps, the tanned skin beneath your–No. Him and those damn muscles are what got you into this situation in the first place.
He stared at you wide-eyed, “And I’m the father?”
You nodded again. The sound of Jake’s quickening breaths engulfed the two of you for a moment. You were about to explain to him that you didn’t expect anything from him when he opened his mouth again.
“B-but, but, we– I mean, I– and the– oh god, and you’re–” His breaths were shallow as his knees buckled. Your grip on him tightened as you tried to hold his towering frame upright, but you could feel him becoming dead weight.
“Alright, down we go, cowboy.” You muttered as you eased the two of you back onto the couch. You quickly reached for your untouched glass of water on the coffee table before handing it to Jake.
“Here, drink this.” He gratefully accepted it, bringing the glass to his lips as you reached your hand up and pushed a few soft, blond strands off his damp forehead. The two of you sat for what felt like hours, but was probably only a few minutes as Jake absorbed the information.
Kids were something Jake Seresin had never given much thought. Sure, growing up in a conservative Texas family, the idea wasn’t unfamiliar to him, but he’d always known he wanted to be in the Navy. It wasn’t that he didn’t want a wife and kids, he had just assumed it would be something he would have to forgo in order to achieve his career goals. He had accepted that it wasn’t in the cards for him.
“You’d make a great mom,” He spoke quietly, placing the glass back down before turning to you. “I’m sorry, I-I didn’t mean– that was just…a lot to take in.”
You snorted, “Oh, trust me, I know.” The energy in the room shifted as the two of you sat gazing at each other. A deep silence settled between you and Jake as you both searched for the right thing to say.
“I just want you to know that I’m not, like, expecting anything from you or whatever,” You cringed at your bluntness and lack of articulation. “Sorry– I just mean, you can be as involved or not involved as you want. This is a huge surprise for both of us, and I won’t force you to raise a baby if you don’t want to.”
Jake’s expression was unreadable as your words hung in the air. The ticking of the clock in the kitchen was practically deafening as you waited for him to say something, anything.
“You were right in that this is definitely a surprise,” He chuckled.
Jake could never have predicted this. He never even considered the possibility of an unplanned pregnancy, and he couldn’t even imagine what his grandmother would say if she were here. But Jake didn’t care. Right now, one of his favorite people in the entire world was sitting in front of him, literally growing his baby. He was being given an opportunity to have at least a little part of the life he never thought was possible, and he’d be damned if he didn’t take it.
“But if you want to do this, I’m gonna be right there with you. I wanna be as involved as you’ll let me be.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, it was like a floodgate had opened. Your vision blurred as fat tears spilt over, dripping down your cheeks.
“Hey, hey, hey, what’s wrong?,” Jake cooed comfortingly. He gently lifted you so you were straddling his lap, before pulling you into his arms. You let the tears flow, emptying your head to focus on nothing but the warmth of Jake’s embrace.
You weren’t sure how long the two of you stayed like that before you pulled back slightly, wiping your eyes with the sleeve of the gray hoodie adorning your frame. “Sorry,” You sniffled, “it’s the hormones. One month in and they’re already all out of whack.”
One look at the shoulder of Jake’s white shirt, now littered with stains of mascara and teardrops, had your eyes welling up again. “Shit, your shirt…” You frowned, quickly tried wiping it off, knowing full well your actions were useless.
Jake chuckled, gently grasping your wrist and pulling it away from the stains. “Hey, don’t worry about it. I should probably start getting used to it. I mean, think about it, eight months from now and you and I both will be getting far worse stains on our clothes.”
You let out a watery laugh, a smile making its way onto your face as you realized Jake would probably be the first person to make baby spit-up look good.
—--------
“What are you thinkin’ about, hm?” Jake’s soothing voice drew your attention back to the present.
“When I told you I was pregnant.” You laughed lightly. You watched as Jake smiled fondly, reminiscing about that day last December.
“We’re ready for this, right?” You whispered, unsure if you were really asking Jake or yourself. The blonde lifted his head, hands still glued to your stomach, and met your misty eyes.
“Course we are, darlin’, are you kiddin’ me? We were born ready.” He grinned again. You gave him a pointed look, “Okay, maybe not born ready, but I feel like we have more than enough experience since we basically parent Rooster.”
You giggled at that. Jake wasn’t really wrong, considering how one of Bradley’s terms for letting Jake move in with you guys was that one of you had to pack him a lunch for work everyday.
“Well then, let’s just hope–” The words were stolen from your tongue as pain jolted through you. You closed your eyes, grabbing and squeezing Jake’s hand as your stomach tightened. With his free hand, Jake massaged your neck gently.
“Breathe, baby, breathe. Do you want me to go get the nurse?”
You nodded, eyes still pinched shut. Jake squeezed your hand and kissed your temple before quickly going to find the nearest nurse. He came back 30 seconds later, a red headed nurse trailing him. She smiled warmly at you, pulling on a fresh pair of gloves.
“All right, Miss L/N, let’s check how many centimeters, shall we?”
You took a deep breath, leaning into Jake’s side as he sat, perched on the edge of the hospital bed. The blonde began stroking your hair with his large hand as the nurse stood back up, “Well, it looks like it’s time to head to the delivery room.”
Your eyes widened, “Wait, seriously? This isn’t a joke, right? You’re serious?”
She chuckled at your reaction, “Yes, Ma’am. You’re ten centimeters dilated. You’re about to become a mom.”
You lifted your head to look at Jake, chest tight with a mixture of anxiety and overwhelming happiness, “We’re about to become parents.”
The signature Seresin smile found its way to his face, his green eyes shining with excitement. Jake pushed a stray hair behind your ear, “Yes, we are, honey. Yes, we are.”

The chapel was quiet. The once full pews just a few hours ago are now empty. You sniffle, surrounded by white, the bouquet of flowers sat in your hands. You really couldn't believe this had happened, you had your suspisions but never thought you'd be left at the altar on your wedding day. The doors open as you look up, mascara running down your cheeks.
There stood your father, a sad smile on his face as he took off his cap, making his way down the aisle. “I know baby” you sob, looking up at him as the tears flow freely. “What am I gonna do dad?” you whisper as he shakes his head, crouching down in front of you. He reaches forward, cupping your cheek and wiping the smudged mascara.
“Why don’t you come home with me?” he whispers with a sad smile.
Something about California was different. The sun was hotter and the people were in abundance. You sigh, standing on the sidewalk looking up at the house. How embarrassing was it having to fly back home as an adult and move in with your parents?
Rolling your suitcase up the walkway, the front door flies open. “You get your butt in here!” your mom yells from the top of the steps. “Honey!” she yells back to your dad as you pull the suitcase up the steps with a shy smile. Your father makes his way down the steps, smiling wide. “My little girl” he whispers, wrapping you in his arms as you sigh, falling into his chest.
He wraps you in his arms, watching as your mom shuts the door behind you. “Hi Admiral” you mumble into his chest, snuggling deeper into his cardigan. “Hi baby” he kissed the top of your head as you tried so hard to hold back your tears. “You are gonna find someone so much better than him” he mumbles against your hairline as you sigh.
“Thanks dad” you pull away with a smile as he nods, cupping your cheeks. “You are gonna thrive here I promise” he holds his pinky to you, wrapping your own around his, “thanks dad”.
The childhood bedroom hadn’t changed from when you first moved to San Diego at 17. You stand in the doorway, looking at the posters that littered the walls. Pulling the suitcase in and kicking the door closed after you, falling into the bed with a heavy sigh.
“(Y/N)!” you groan into the pillow as your mom’s voice travels up the stairs. “We are having company over, come say hi!” you lift a hand and give a thumbs up even though you knew she couldn’t see you.
The opening of the front door and the muffled voices flow up the steps. Climbing out of bed,the smell of your fathers famous ribs seem to meet you at the end of the steps, you can't help but smile.
You take a deep breath and make your way to the kitchen. Maverick looks up from his drink with a grin, “(y/n)?”. You smile at your uncle with a sad smile, “hi uncle mav” he stands from his bar stool and walks around the counter, wrapping you in a hug.
“Good to see you kid” he mumbles, giving your shoulder a squeeze.
“Who’s this?” A female voice asks, making her way in with your mother. “Oh, Penny, this is (y/n)” Maverick moves to the side, smiling at Penny who smiles at you. “My oldest daughter” your dad speaks up from the patio doors. “Hi Penny, nice to meet you” the two of you shake hands as she smiles.
Sitting on the back patio of your parents home, the thoughts are running wildly in your head. “Hey” you look over, Maverick stands beside you. “Hi uncle mav” you whisper, pulling your knees back to your chest. “What’s goin on?” he asks, sitting on the edge of your chair, arm around your shoulders. “Talk to Uncle Mav” you laugh, leaning into his side as you sigh.
“I’m surprised dad didn’t tell you” looking up at him, his face couldn’t hide his lie, “nope”. The two of you chuckle as you shrug, “Luke cheated on me, so much for a wedding as he left me there” you whisper, the engagement ring still sitting on your left hand.
“Sweetheart, if you want the truth” he says, sitting the beer bottle on his knee as he looks down at you. “Luke did not deserve your kindness and didn’t deserve the title of your husband” you chuckle softly, “your father and I both felt that way from the moment we met him” you nod. “I know, it just hurts a bit”. He nods, motioning to your hand, “I say you pawn that or even yet, I’ll take you to the beach and throw it in the ocean” you laugh, nodding.
“You think?” he nods, kissing the top of your head. “I think it’s a good idea, let me know” he smiles, standing and making his way to the doors.
“Don’t think I missed the band on your left hand either Mav” he grins, “Penny has put up with me a long time kid, you’ll find your person”.
Friday nights in Fightertown were big. Everyone made their way to the bars surrounding the base, including yourself. Penny invited you to the hard deck to get a feel for it as she then offered you the bartending job on the weekends until you found your feet.
The jukebox was soft as it flowed through the bar, it was still early in the evening. Pushing through the door, you hold the purse strap closer to your shoulder and make your way through the grabby hands and prying eyes. “You made it!” Penny yells with a smile, you nod, walking to the bar with a shy smile. “I did!” she grins, motioning you back as she takes your purse and places it under the bar.
“Penny!” you turn at the sound of the voice, a smile breaking out on your face as Bradley Bradshaw stands with a confused look on his face.
“Bradley Bradshaw?” you whisper, hand on your hip as his brows furrow. He tilts his head as the smile of realization makes its way to his face, “(y/n) Kazansky?”. You move around the bar, hugging him tightly. He laughs, hugging your body to his chest. “Last I knew you lived in Nashville?” he questions as you shake your head, “uh” you shove your hands into the back pocket of the jean shorts with a shrug. “I did'' you trail off as he raises his brow, "My fiance left me at the alter so dad packed me up and brought me home" he gasps with a sympathetic smile. “I’m sorry to hear that Kaz '' you smile with a shrug, “As mav has told me, my person is out there” he nods, giving you a squeeze as his eyes fall to the pool tables. “My team is here, join us if you’d like! If I can steal her?” he questions, looking at the woman who was practically his step-mom.
“Go ahead” she grins, setting two beers in front of the two of you. You take the beers by their neck, following behind Rooster. “Rooster!” Phoenix is the first to acknowledge his presence, a smile on her lips. You follow behind with a shy smile, “hey guys!” He greets them, taking his beer.
“This is (y/n), an old friend” he introduces you to the squad. With a wave, you shake the hands of everyone.
“Oh, Married?” Phoenix questions, the bar was now brought to life, it had been hours of conversations with people you now can call friends. She notices the band on your left hand. “Oh uh” you look down at the engagement ring, “I was supposed to be..” you chuckle, looking up at her as you sip from the beer bottle, “I was actually supposed to be on my honeymoon right now, not back home with my parents”.
Her eyes widen, you stop her as her lips part, “do not be sorry, I should’ve expected it with the ring” you slip it off your finger slowly. She nods, “I am sorry, you seem great!” she encourages as you smirk, noticing the end of her drink. “Want another?” you ask as she nods eagerly “If you are buying” she smirks as you laugh, standing from the chair with a shake of your head.
“Obviously!” moving through the crowded bar, you make your way to the edge with a smile to penny. She smiles, giving you a one minute with her finger as you shrug. “What’s a beautiful thing like you doin up here by herself?” you cringe at the voice, looking over at the man who leans beside you. He was tall, dark hair with warm eyes.
“I’m not alone don’t worry” you mumble, smiling again at Penny.
She watches closely, “can I at least buy you a drink?” you sigh, taking a deep breath. “C’mon” he moves closer brushing his fingertips along your bare shoulders.
“Hey sweetheart” you jump at the warm arm making its way around your waist and the southern accent attached. Looking up at the man to the opposite side of you, he smiles down at you with his green eyes. “Hey babe” you grin, leaning into his body slightly, looking at the man beside you.
“This guy bothering you?” he asks, you chuckle as the man now shrinks in on himself, looking the two of you up and down. “No” he mumbles, walking away from the both of you. You turn to face the blonde, looking at him ready to tear into him.
He smiles, holding his hands up in surrender. “I come in peace, Trace sent me” you look over his shoulder, Phoenix  waves. “Are you in the squad?” he nods, holding his hand out with a smirk, “hangman, at your service madam or you can call me Jake” he brings your connected hands to his lips, kissing your knuckles. “Thank you for saving me.. Hangman” you smile at the grin that breaks out on his lips. “Of course, I love saving a damsel in distress"
The Hard Deck was always peaceful in the hours leading up to opening. You pick up the case of beer to set onto the shelves. “So” You look over at Penny's voice with a raised brow, smiling. “I noticed you got rescued last night” you chuckle, turning to face her. “I did by Jake?” you question as she smirks. “Hangman” she nods, following you out the swinging doors to the bar.
“I saw the smile on your face” she comments as you giggle, looking at her. “I was grateful that he helped me out” she nods, eyes falling out the window. “I know Hangman, he is a true southern gentleman” you nod, chuckling as the bar door opens. “Pen!” Rooster’s voice can be heard from the bar deck as his face is peaking around the door.
“Hey Kaz” you smile, looking over at him, waving. “Yes, Rooster?” Penny asks, pushing off the bar to walk towards him, “can we have some beers out here? We would come in but we’re covered in sand” he smiles sheepishly as she has her hands on her hips.
She chuckles, ‘yes darlin” the grin breaks out on his face as he turns and shuts the door. “Would you like to take some beers out to them?” she asks as you smile, nodding.
You pull out seven beers and pop the tops off all of them, carrying them by the necks as you pass a smirking penny. Pushing the door open, you stop short at the group of Aviators sitting on the back deck of the hard deck, panting and covered in sweat. You think you’d be used to it growing up around the Navy but they take you all by surprise.
“Kaz” Rooster’s voice pulls you from the daze you were in, smiling wide at the group. “Sorry” you chuckle, walking to them and setting the beers down at the table. “Hey gorgeous” Phoenix pipes up from her seat, reaching out to give you a squeeze. “Hi” you chuckle, giving her a side hug.
“What did I miss?” you turn at the voice, the words on the tip of your tongue are gone.
Jake stands at the edge of the table, shorts low on his hips and aviators perched on his nose. “Hey” he nods to you with a grin, you smile back at him slightly.
You hadn’t felt the flutter in the pit of your stomach in years, a feeling you didn’t expect.
“If you guys uh- uh need anything let me know, i’m inside” you quickly move from Phoenix’s side and make your way inside. Penny is standing at the bar with a smirk on her face, she can see the flush of your cheeks from where she stands. “Penny!” you scold moving over to her at the bar, she holds her hands up in defense. “I know a crush when I see one” she whispers, as you look up at her through your lashes.
“He’s very handsome that’s all” you grin, turning around to walk back towards the coolers. “Whatever you say young lady!” she yells back, smirking as she looks out the window, Jake’s eyes following your movements behind his aviators.
“Tread lightly” Rooster says beside him, Jake turns to him with a raised brow. “Why’s that?” he asks as Rooster grins, “let's just say… hurt her, your military career is over” Jake nods slowly, looking back into the bar as you stand beside Penny.
The back door opens again and you turn to face a smiling Jake. Taking the glasses off his face his eyes land on your own. “Hi” you smile, looking at him as he makes his way in front of you. “Hi again” he grins, leaning on the bar with his aviators in hand. “Can I get you another beer?” he moves closer then and that's when you get the fresh smell of beer and you couldn’t pick up what his cologne smells like but it was almost intoxicating.
“Actually,” he grins “I was thinking maybe a date” you raise a brow, setting the rag down on the counter with a grin matching his own. “A date huh?” he nods, “if you want to, that is” he adds with a raised brow. “I think” you pull the quarter out of your back pocket with a grin. “That's a deal but on one condition” he eyes the quarter and nods slowly watching the smile grow on your lips again.
“Heads or tails?” you ask and he chuckles, watching the look of seriousness on your face. “I mean it, heads or tails” he thinks slowly and nods, “tails”.
You flip the quarter off your pointer finger and grin as it lands on the back of your hand. “Heads' ' you show him as he nods slowly, “means I get to pick our date” you smirk grabbing a napkin from beside you and scribbling on it delicately to not rip it.
“Here” you hand it to him as he smiles at the small heart attached to the 10 digits. “Text me yeah?” you grab the rag and make your way into the back office with penny. Stopping in the doorway of her office, she grins and looks up from her paper. “What?” she asks as you are standing there wide eyed, “am I crazy or did I just agree to a date?” she laughs, setting her pen down.
“With Hangman?” you nod as she grins. “Oh I can’t wait to tell Pete” she sits back in the chair with a grin.
The closing shift was never bad at the hard deck, usually quiet with the soft stroll of the jukebox. You locked the door behind you, not alarmed to see the truck still parked, assuming someone took a cab home after having one too many.
Until the engine roars to life and you can hear the gravel under someone's boots. “Woah woah” The southern drawl is almost comforting as you face Jake at the bottom of the steps. “You scared the shit out of me” you whisper-yell as he grins. “I’m sorry beautiful, I just thought maybe you’d need a ride home” you smile, adjusting the bag on your shoulder as you look him up and down.
He stood in a pair of shorts and a t-shirt that practically was stretched to its limits over his arms, “I uh, I do actually” you whisper, looking at him through your lashes. “But, I was actually thinking” you mess with the jacket in your arms as you walk down the steps to meet him at the end. “Wanna take a walk with me on the beach?” you raise a brow as he grins, holding his arm out to you, “lead the way”.
Linking your arm around his, you smile and slide the sandals off your feet and walk through the trail leading to the beach beside the Hard Deck.
The silence was comforting with Jake, he held you close as your arm stayed linked with his own, his other arm now carrying the sweatshirt you had brought with you. “What brought you to San Diego?” he looks down at you and immediately notices the shift in your shoulders. “It’s a long story” you admit, looking over to see his green eyes. “I have time” he grins as you stop in the sand, looking up at him, “then we may want to sit down”.
He sits beside you, leaning back on his hands as you sit tucked into his side, “I was supposed to get married two weeks ago”. Jake’s shoulder tense as he looks from the ocean over to you. “Luke, my ex-fiance, '' he nods in understanding, watching the way the moon lit up your features. “He cheated on me with a woman in his squad, left me at the altar. My dad found me and offered me to come home, so I packed up my life and moved back home with him” Jake grunts with a shake of his head.
“I can’t believe he did that, can I ask, is he Navy?” he asks as you shake your head with a laugh. “Weirdly enough, he’s Air Force” Jake scoffs with a smirk, “I should’ve known, those are the ones you gotta watch out for '' you giggle, head falling to his shoulder.
“I should’ve listened to my dad and Mav, they told me and I just thought” you trail off, looking out at the water, “thought maybe they were wrong but they weren't and that hurt more” he nods, resting his head on top of your own. “I understand. I can’t say I’m not happy this happened, then you would’ve never met me” he smirks with a confident smile as you laugh, nodding. “That is totally true” you smile, thinking back on it.
Just in the week you’ve been in Fightertown, you have met old friends and made new ones so maybe Luke’s mistake was your gain.
“This was a perfect first date” you say, looking over at Jake in the driver's seat. He smirks, “does this mean I get to pick the next?” he asks as you nod slowly. “I think so” you lean over, kissing his cheek and climbing out of the Chevy.
“Thank you for the ride” you say, leaning against the door frame as he grins, “anything for a pretty lady, that's what us Navy men do” he smirks as you giggle and look away from him, under the early hours the blush creeps up your cheeks. “Let me know when you have the time and we’ll” you shrug with a smile, “go on another” he grins as you wave and shut the door behind you.
Jogging up the steps of your parent’s home, turning back as the Chevy sat on the curb. You shut the door behind you and push the curtain aside and watch as Jake’s truck pulls away.
“You are home late” you jump at your fathers voice, turning to face him as his face remains stone. “Dad, I’m an adult” you add, moving to the end of the steps as his face breaks out into a grin, “I know, just like to give you a hard time” he holds an arm out towards you as you make your way up the steps. “Who brought you home?” he asks as you link your arm with his outstretched one, “uh” you hesitate as he smirks. “You can tell me” he adds, looking down at you with a raised brow. “Jake?” you question as he nods, face almost stone.
“Hangman..” you add, looking up at him through your lashes. “Jake Seresin?” he adds as you bite your lip and close your eyes. “I don’t like that you know his whole name, makes me think he is bad news” he shakes his head stopping outside your bedroom door, cupping your cheeks.
“He is an exceptional pilot. I think that’s nice” you nod, reaching up to hug him tightly. “Makes me feel better my dad might like this one” you whisper as he laughs, giving you a squeeze. “Go to bed” he laughs, nudging you to the bedroom. Laying back on your childhood bed,the phone buzzed beside you. You felt like you were in highschool again, smiling at the bright screen.
unknown : I had a nice time tonight, but don’t you worry I am sweeping you off your feet for the next one ;)
You giggle, saving his number quickly to your contacts. Maybe coming home to San Diego wouldn’t be so bad.
+
Jake knew your second date had to be perfect. He had planned everything down to the minute. He took a deep breath and made his way up the steps of your home, knocking on the front door. Stood in a pair of jeans and a black button up, the bouquet of wildflowers in his hand as the door swings open, his mouth goes dry.
“Lieutenant'' He looked like a deer in the headlights as your father grinned from the front door.
Admiral Kazansky was your father.
Rooster's words finally made sense, “Admiral Kazansky '' he breathed. Iceman was a well respected man in the Naval Academy, Jake even looked up to him when he first enlisted. “Call me Tom '' he grins, motioning him in the house.
Jake nods slowly, walking into the foyer as he looks around the home. He couldn’t believe he missed all the clues of who you were or more of who your father was. “Honey!” Iceman yells up the steps as he turns to Jake. “Now” he crosses his arms over his chest and Jake can feel the fatherly chat coming. “I’m just looking out for my little girl okay?” Jake nods eagerly looking at your father. “I completely understand, sir" Jake is smiling at him, which takes your father by surprise.
“I know what she’s gone through and why she's here in San Diego. I also know how hard it was for her to agree to this date” Iceman nods as Jake continues. “I just want to show her how a real man is supposed to treat a lady, sir” he coughs slightly looking up at him.
You smile at the top of the steps, Jake proved himself so far almost perfectly, prove to dad. Taking a deep breath, you make your way down the steps, signaling both men to end their conversation. Jake makes his way to meet you at the end of the steps, holding a hand out to you. Taking his awaiting hand, you smile at him “hi” he grins, as he holds the flowers out to you.
“These are for you” smiling, you take the bouquet looking over at your parents as your mom now stands beside your father. “I’ll take those, I have a vase, '' she smiles, taking it from your outstretched hand.
You turn to Jake with a furrowed brow as he looks you over, “Jake?” he blinks, smiling. “Sorry, you look.. So beautiful” he whispers as you blush. “Let’s go” you smile, opening the door and leading him outside.
The sun was setting over the ocean, leaving soft pink hues in the sky. Sitting beside Jake on the small blanket as the breeze was slowly picking up. The restaurant he picked for dinner faced the ocean as the sand seemed so inviting.
Jake proved to you that it didn’t take much to make you happy, a simple meal and listening. “What’s goin on up there?” he asks as you look up at him with a raised brow. “You seem awfully quiet” he notes as you smile nodding. “I didn’t expect this. Not in a bad way but dates with Luke were… I paid for dinner and I made the plans” you lean into his shoulder, head falling into that space between his shoulder and jaw.
He scoffs, moving his arm to wrap around you. “I can’t get over this man. The more you tell me the more i hate him” you giggle with a shrug. You wanted to tell him he didn’t compare to him, in the few weeks you’d known Jake he didn’t ever compare to Luke. “Thank you” you look up at him, sitting up. “You’re welcome gorgeous" you blush, looking back out to the ocean as you stand. “I don’t want to talk about him anymore Jake” he nods with an understanding smile.
“What do you wanna do?” he asks as you back up towards the shore line. “Skinny dip” you admit with a grin, pulling the shoulders of your dress down as you soon let it pool into the sand.
Your back is to him, you don’t see him make his way up behind you, a smirk on his lips as he grabs you by the waist running to the water. You squeal, holding onto his arms tightly. Gripping his shoulders, you push his now wet hair out of his face. “Jake?” you whisper, legs wrapping around his waist as his arms link under your thighs. “What’s on your mind?” he asks as you smile, “you are the handsomest man I think I’ve seen in a long time” you admit as his smirk grows. “You are the most gorgeous woman I have seen in forever” he grins, nudging your nose gently.
The sun was now set, cupping his cheek you can’t help the smile that matches his own. “You’re proving to me how a man should treat a lady” you whisper, his eyes widening “you heard that?” he looks away from your face, a slight blush on his cheeks. “Are you blushing?” you gasp as he shakes his head, “no I am not!” he laughs. “Oh my god Jake Seresin is blushing!” you squeal as he pulls you closer to his body, leaning in slowly. “Fine” he whispers against your lips, eyes looking from your lips to your face. “I was, you bring out the best in a man I suppose” you giggle, leaning down to connect your lips.
The sun was peeking through the curtains as you groaned. The bed was comfier and the comforter seemed softer than the one in your childhood bedroom.
The weight of the arm across your waist brought you to the night you spent with him. Jake groans, rolling over onto his back. “For a man who wakes at a moment's notice for the Navy, you can’t for me?” you grin at the smile on his lips, kissing his jaw gently. “For you, anything” his voice was deep and full of southern drawl. You knew at that moment you wanted to hear it forever.
“Sleep okay?” you ask, head resting on his shoulder as he grins, “I did, how did you sleep?” he turns his head, lips resting on your hairline, hand seeking your own. “For the first time in a few months, almost perfectly” he grins against your skin.
The room fell silent in a comforting way as you snuggled closer to his body. “I can’t believe you got me in bed on our second date” you mumble with a smirk as he laughs. “I’m just that smooth gorgeous” he can’t help but to laugh as you giggle.
After your morning with Jake, you knew you were making the right choice. Standing at the shoreline behind the hard deck, you twirl the engagement ring around your finger slowly.
“Hey sweetheart” you jump, looking behind you as Maverick makes his way down the sand, “don't be mad” he says as you smile at him. “Why would I be mad?” he smiles “penny sent me down here with you” he admits as you shake your head. “I actually am glad she did, I-I need your help” he moves beside you. “Uncle Mav, I went out with Jake” you look over at him as he smiles, nodding slowly.
“How’d it go?” he asks, standing beside you as you turn back out to the water, “perfect”. He smiles, nodding slowly “so why do you need my help?” he asks. “Am I making a bad decision?” he bites his lip, “do you want the truth?” he asks as you nod eagerly.
“Complete truth” he nods, “Hangman is similar to your father. He’s cocky and a bit arrogant and I can say this about him, your father because he’s my best friend” he points out as you giggle, nodding. “But he’s also kind and gentle and takes care of the one he loves, when your father met your mother I saw a shift in him and I have seen a shift in Hangman”  you smile, moving closer to the other pilot as you take a deep breath.
“Okay” you smile, walking closer to the sand and taking a deep breath. “You got it!” maverick yells as the metal slips from your fingers and makes a small plop in the ocean.
“Luke is your past, I see Hangman as your future” Maverick smiles at the smile on your face.
+
It had been months since you landed  in San Diego.
Jake made it his mission to continue winning you and your father over. Jake always made his presence known at the Hard Deck so you knew he was always watching. “Gorgeous" You smile at the sound of his voice, looking over your shoulder as he stands in his service khakis. “Handsome” you grin, grabbing him two beers, one for him and one for Rooster.
He grins as you set them in front of him, “on me” you grin as he leans over the bar, kissing your forehead gently, “thanks beautiful”.
Turning back to the bar you lost track of the time, a usual occurance with a Friday night in the bar.
In seconds the atmosphere can change in a bar and within a millisecond, it did. The door opened and your eyes locked on his, Luke stood at the door with a few members of his squad.
Jake’s shoulders tense as he looks up from the pool table, he notices the tension in the bar as his eyes then fall to you. “(Y/N)?” Penny questions as you look at her with wide eyes. “Its really bold to be an Air Force pilot and walk into a Navy bar” you mumble as her eyes widen. “You okay?” she asks as you nod slowly, taking a deep breath. “He’s always been kind of an idiot, '' you mumble, turning to the customer in front of you.
“What’s goin on?” Rooster asks, standing beside Jake as he huffs slightly. ``I'm guessing, and this could be a long shot. I’m pretty sure that’s Luke'' Jake puts a hand on his hip as his green eyes follow the pilots. “That’s kinda stupid  to come into a Navy bar…” Rooster notes as Jake nods slowly. “Yeah, well it’s really stupid to cheat on your beautiful fiance but yet he did ''.
You don’t notice the brunette at your side, the woman who held a grin on her lips as the squad surrounded her. “Excuse me” she asks and your head snaps to her, her face falls at your face. “(Y/N)..” she breathes as you smile, watching the face of every other pilot around her. “Hi Katie” you smile, “what can I get you?”. Penny tries to hide her laugh as you put on the most bull-shit smile ever.
“Oh uh- Titos and soda please” you nod, turning to grab a glass. The whispers weren’t subtle as the rest of the squad realized who you were by the time Luke made it beside his now girlfriend. “Your tito’s, opening a tab?” you avoid his brown eyes as she nods slowly, handing a card over. “Perfect” you set it beside the register with her name, walking to penny.
“I need some air” you whisper, tossing the towel aside and making your way past Jake and the Dagger Squad, ignoring the voice of both men. “(Y/N)” you could throw up at the sound of his voice. It was almost as deafening as nails on a chalkboard. “What do you want?” you turn to face him, your face almost as stone. “What are you even doing here? Don’t you know this is a Navy bar?!” you seeth, as he holds his hands up in defense.
“I heard great things.. I thought i’d check it out” he looks over your shoulder as Jake makes his way out the door, beer in his hand as he stands behind you. Luke chuckles, “need a guard dog?” you follow his gaze, looking at Jake with a small smile as he watches your face almost shift.
“I don’t need a guard dog no, but it’s good to have someone who cares about my well being, someone to protect me” you mumble, head snapping back to Luke.
“You don’t need protecting from me (Y/n)” he says as you almost seeth at his words. “Oh? I don’t? I don’t need protection from the man who left me at the altar for another woman?” you question as his gaze falls. “I know you slept with Katie almost every single mission you flew, every deployment” you spit.
He raises his eyes as he smirks, “but yet it didn’t take you long to crawl into someone else’s bed” he eyes Jake who stands taller behind you. Moving closer to him, you let out a deep breath. “It didn’t. He fucks me better than you ever could, Katie can have you all to herself” you smirk at the raise of his eyebrows. “I suggest you leave” you chuckle as Luke shrugs, “why? What are you and the sea boy back there gonna do?” before you could think your hand connected with his jaw.
The doors fly open then, Rooster is moving in front of you as the rest of Luke’s squad makes their way outside. “I suggest you leave, now” your voice is almost deadly, dripping with venom. He looks at you, holding his cheek as you grin. “I always knew you were twisted. '' Laughing, you move from behind Rooster. “Don’t you know you never fuck with an admirals daughter! Cold as ice, Bitch” you spit as Katie is pulling him back.
“Go running back to your bitch” you walk back to Jake, who can’t help but grin behind his beer bottle, waving to the rest of the squad as they are helping Luke down the steps.
“That was stupid” Jake looks up at you in sympathy as he applies the bag of ice onto your knuckles. “It gave me so much closure though” you smile, looking up at him as he stands between your thighs. “It was hot” he admits with a grin as you giggle. “I hope I didn’t upset you” he furrows his brows as he pulls the ice off your knuckles to look over the busted skin.
“Upset me?” you shrug, looking down now at your knuckles. “Saying I didn’t need you to protect me..” he shakes his head, “you’ve had to protect yourself for a while, I understand'' he admits as you nod, “You have your very own Doberman who will always protect you. If or when you need him” he winks as you laugh.
“I hope you know, I will always protect you. I vowed that the moment I met you” he admits, kissing your hairline gently as your eyes fall closed. “I will always protect you my love” you whisper back, looking up at him with a grin. “My love huh?” he smirks as you laugh, slapping his chest gently. “I like that one” he admits, leaning down closer to your lips with a smirk.
“Get over here” you smirk, pulling him into you by the collar, kissing him as if he’d slip away. “Let’s get you home my big bad lioness” he smirks, picking you up and over his shoulder.
+
Three years later.
The church was perfect. You stood outside on the sidewalk as you heard the motorcycle pull up. Looking over your shoulder, mav is dismounting the bike and pulling the helmet off his head. “There’s my girl” he grins as the tears well up in your eyes. “Uncle Mav” your lip quivers as he’s wrapping you in his arms. “Dad’s on his way, needs a moment to compose himself” Mav says with a laugh as you smile. “I know, he’s a big ol softy” he grins as the escalade pulls up to the curb and your father steps out.
“Are you waiting out here for me?” you smile, holding a hand out to him with a nod. “I need my dad to walk me down the aisle don’t i?” you ask as he grins, taking your hand. Walking inside, the two of you stand by the two double doors.
“It’s different this time,” you whisper, looking up at him. “It is, you are marrying a good man” he smiles, kissing your head as the doors open and music begins. “And i can’t be more proud of you” he smiles, facing the end of the aisle where Jake stands.
Jake’s lip is quivering, looking down to avoid more tears but his eyes fall back to you just as quickly. “Dude” Coyote whispers to him as he looks over at his best man, “You can cry '' Coyote adds as Jake nods, a sob falling from his lips. By the time he looks back down the aisle you are almost in front of him.
He looks over at your mom, who sits proudly waiting for the two of you. “Hangman” Iceman grins as he is handing you over to the pilot, who smiles at him in a nod of thanks. The ceremony was beautiful, the soft hues of orange sat along the venu.
Everyone made their way to the reception as you sat down on the end of the aisle. This time, Jake stands at the end at the double doors with a smile on his face. “What is my beautiful bride doing in here?” he asks, hands in his pockets as you smile, looking up at him.
“Thinking” you admit, standing to meet him halfway down the aisle. He smiles, making his way down to you and wrapping you in his arms. “Thinkin about what?” he asks as you smile, running your hands along his arms. “How I saw myself here three years ago except, it wasn’t this beautiful, wasn’t this perfect” you smile up at him as he grins. “Three years ago you were expected to marry a boy,” he says as you giggle.
“Yet, I married a man who showed me the right way to love a woman” he grins, leaning down to kiss your forehead as your eyes fall closed. “I am just a man who wanted to give the beautiful woman the world” you smile as his forehead falls against your own.
The day your father picked you up from the altar floor played in your mind. His kind words and his encouragement to come back home with him to San Diego would've never had you end here, in the arms of someone who made you his world.
You couldn’t be more thankful for that summer in San Diego.

I'm in the mood for some Jake Hangman Seresin like marriage fluff

like that?
Tumblr media
or maybe like that?
Jake knocks at the door and waits until your best friend appears, holding closely the door so he can't see what's inside. Who's inside. "The photographer is ready, if she's still up for it." He says and he can hear your giggle from inside. "I'm still up for it, cowboy." He smiles, nods and takes a step back. "I'll be in the hall." He says before turning back and joining the photographer. The timing was perfect, the sun was giving a golden light to the hallway where Jake was waiting for you. His back was turned to the photographer who started taking some clichés of the groom. He looked radiant, the sun rays creating an angelic aura all around him. Jake almost turned around when he heard your heels clicking on the wooden floor. But as he was about to ruin the surprise, you stopped in your tracks and he remembered what exactly he was standing there for. The first looks.
The clicking started once more and he couldn't help the grin stretching his lips. He could hear the photographer taking pictures and he never felt more jealous than at this moment. When you were just a few feet away from him, he started shaking from excitement. This was definitely the best day of his life, there was no doubt about it. "Honey?" You call for him and he knows it's his signal to turn around. When his eyes finally land on you, he cannot suppress stretching his lips. "Oh, baby..." He scoffs, not believing his eyes. You were just perfect, the long white dress fits perfectly your body. "Do you like it?" You grab the skirt of your dress and move it a little bit. Jake softly groans and rubs his face with his left hand, the one where you'd find a ring at the end of the day. "If I like it? You- Can you give me a twirl, baby?" You happily comply with a giggle and he almost tries to reach out for you. "Tut tut tut! No touching, Mr Seresin." You take a step back and he sighs, trying to charm you with puppy eyes. You chuckle and take another step back, knowing it's almost time for you to walk down the aisle.
"I'll see you at the altar?" You smile at him and his lips stretch in a smirk. "I'll be the handsome guy trying not to cry." He says and you laugh once more. "I'll be the pretty lady in white, definitely crying." He sends you another smile and blows a kiss in your direction. "I love you." He says as you open the door to leave him alone in the hallway. "I love you more." You answer without hesitation. "That's not possible." He only says before you disappear from his sight. He keeps staring at the door you just closed behind you with a silly smile before turning to the photographer. "Was that good for you?" He asks him as the man checks his clichés. "Perfect. You're gonna love them." The man smiles. "I'm sure we will." Jake nods and joins Javy in the lobby to hear his best man instructions.

Whenever Jake came home from deployment, the only thing he really wanted to do was relax and spend all the time he could with you. There were times when he’d been gone so long, neither of you left the house for days from the second he got back, just wanting to be with each other in the place you loved most—your home. But really, you were his home.
Today was no different. He’d just gotten back yesterday after being gone on a mission for two whole months, and now here you were, laying right on top of him, a comfortable weight blanketing him as the two of you watched a movie in the middle of the day.
Jake didn't think he'd ever been more content in his life.
Your cheek was smushed against the hard plane of his chest, hands tucked under either side of his body as your legs tangled with his. From his position, Jake could bury his nose into your hair, inhaling the achingly familiar scent of your shampoo if he wanted to, but he settled for threading his fingers into your hair, scratching your scalp lightly in a way that he knew you always loved.
The movie was honestly just background noise for him, because he’d stopped paying attention to it ages ago in favor of simply looking at you, taking in every feature, every slope, every soft angle of your face, just so he could commit everything to memory. The crinkle of your eyes when you laughed at a funny scene, the scrunch of your nose at more serious ones. The curve of your lips that always had Jake dying to kiss you until you were both breathless.
It was the simplicity of things that made Jake the happiest—being with you, doing nothing but bask in your presence.
“I can feel you staring at me, Jake.”
You spoke without looking at him, but he was so busy admiring you, he didn’t even notice you’d paused the movie.
“Good. ‘Cause I really do like what I see.” He hummed, smoothing his fingers through your hair one more time before letting his hand drop down to rest at the curve of your waist.
You crawled your way up his body until you were chest to chest, nose to nose. If he angled his chin up even a millimeter, he could kiss you right now. Your elbows planted themselves on his pecs, but he didn’t mind the pressure even one bit. Jake always loved being as close as humanly possible to you.
“I’m so happy you’re home.” You murmured, ghosting your thumbs along the light scruff on his cheeks until they pressed into the dimples of his smile. You loved a clean shaven and smooth cheeked Jake, but there was nothing better than when he went a few days without shaving, because it meant he was home with you for a little while longer.
That made him grin even wider, and he turned his head to kiss both of your palms. “I’m so happy to be home.”
“Never leave me again?”
“I can’t guarantee you that, darlin’. But I can guarantee that I’ll always come back to you.”
“You better. Or else I’ll be really pissed at you.”
Jake’s deep laugh boomed through the room, vibrating from his chest to your own body. He gave your hip a teasing squeeze. “Well, we can’t have that, now can we?”
“No.” You shook your head. “We can’t. Otherwise I won’t kiss you.”
“Oh come on, honey, we both know you can’t resist me.”
“I can.”
“You can’t.”
“I’m doing it right now.” You moved to pull yourself off him, but his arms circled around your waist before you could get very far, bringing you back down on top of him and finally, finally connecting his lips to yours. You couldn’t help it, you kissed him back immediately. How could you not?
Jake’s hand slid around the back of your neck, thumb stroking along your skin idly despite the firmness in his kiss. He felt you sigh against his lips, melt into him even more. He didn’t even have it in him to be smug at the effect he had on you, because you had the same one on him.
You stopped kissing him just for a moment, pressing your forehead against his before speaking. “I love you.” You whispered, a promise of forever and more passing from you to him.
“And I love you, darlin’. I promise to always come back to you.”
“Always?”
“Always.”

You and Glen have been dating for a year and You finally go to meet him on set for Anyone but you.
You get out of your car and look around and He sends you a text.
Glen-Hey baby :) i see youuu and damn u look very sexy 😍
You are in this dress.
Tumblr media
You smile at his text.
Y/N-where are you??
Glen says behind you. "Right here baby" You turn around and smile. "hey"
He hugs you kissing your head. "How was work?" You two walk to his trailer and You say as he opens the door. "it was good"
You look around and say. "oh this sure looks cozy" you added a hint of sarcasm then turn and Glen smirks.
"very funny baby" he walks closer to you not taking his eyes off of you like your an animal and he's the hunter.
he is inches from you and he says. "This dress is going to be in the way"
You smirk. "why not take it off then?" Glen leans down kissing your neck. "you bet i will" he said as my hands run up his back. "Glen..."
He pulls away and you frown. "what is it?" he reaches behind his back and locks the door. "We don't want someone to walk in do we?"
You smile. "yeaa no" He smiles and slips your dress off saying. "fuck your sexy baby"
You smile as he kisses your shoulder. "God i missed you cowboy"
Tumblr media
"Cowboy this is unfair..." he says. "What do you mean?" You smirk tugging on his white shirt. "Strip"
Glen stop and pulls his his shirt over his head.
"Happy?" You nod biting your lip. "Much better" You kiss him again running his hands down his chest and then your hand reaches his jeans, you tug on the belt and Glen smiles as he kisses you.
"Easy baby" he kisses your neck as he works his jeans off
You two keep making out, while his fingers slowly discovers your folds. He finds your clit easily, and keeps his finger on it the whole time.
It drives you crazy, You just need to have him inside of you he's been busy working for three weeks, that was such a long time to not touch him. you move your hand down as well, and start giving his huge member slow strokes.
Glen starts to rub slow circles on your clit now, causing me to moan and pump him faster.
He groans into your mouth, making you moan again until he takes your underwear off.
He puts them on the ground, next to your dress and glen gently takes your wrist to stop your movements. you smile as your let go of him, Glen licks his lips and then kisses you again while he lines up to your entrance.
He lifts me up making me wrap my legs around his torso. He sets me on the small counter.
He looks up into your eyes for permission again, so you immediately nod my head with a smile. "Are you sure, baby?"
he asks, looking like a lost puppy. "I'm sure, I'm sure cowboy. please i need you...".
Glen smiles. 'I know baby i know" he adds, so you smile back at him.
You wrap your arms around his neck, kissing his soft lips again and moan at the feeling of Glen slowly pushing himself inside of your clit for what feels like forever. My God, You missed him.
"Fuck..." you silently moaned, while he softly groans into your mouth again.
Glen pulls away from kissing you and says. "You okay?" he asks. "I'm... I'm okay, I'm okay. Are you okay?"
You ask in reply, so he tells me the same thing and kisses me again. After letting you adjust to him for a moment longer, you nod your head to tell him that he can move.
He slowly starts moving, so I move with him and moan a little louder this time.
Glen's kisses move to your neck, leaving a mark underneath your ear and groaning against your skin every so often. you two move perfectly with each other, enjoying the intimate moment alone, finally.
"Cowboy...i'm..so..close" You said letting your head fall back hitting the cabinet. "ouch!" Glen stops and looks over your head. "Baby you ok!?"
You nod. "Glen please don't stop..."
You buck your hips with him, and climax after a few more thrusts. your legs are shaking, this was fucking amazing! He thrusts a few more times, riding out our high after he filled you up.
You sit there panting and Glen kisses your head. "I'm glad you stopped by baby"
You smile. "Me too" He pulls out and says. "Let me taste you" He said in your ear making you bite your lip. "Yes please"
He gets on his knees and He starts softly licking my folds but then, he sucks on my clit. you gasp again, and throw one of your legs over his shoulder without thinking.
You moan again, a little louder than before. He keeps sucking on your clit and licking your folds, getting you really close to your second climax already.
He keeps doing that for what feels like hours, until he suddenly inserts one finger into your entrance.
You moan again, still trying to control myself, but it's getting harder and harder to keep quiet.
Before you know it, he pushes another finger in. "Oh God..." You whisper underneath your breath as you rolled your eyes back.
He starts to move his fingers in and out of you, in a perfect pace, still sucking on your clit.
You didn't want to come yet, But you also really want to cum when he's inside of me himself. "Cowboy.. I-I'm really c-close..." You stuttered, still underneath your breath.
He doesn't respond, and starts picking up a faster pace. "I-I can't h-hold it any l-longer" you add, a little louder this time.
"It's okay baby, let it go" he replies. The vibrations of his voice against my clit send me over the edge, as you cum all over his fingers.
You moan louder this time, not able to hold yourself back as you let go of his hair, you grab the counter top and slightly arching your back as you throw your head back.
Glen stands up and says. "Damn baby you did amazing!" he kisses you and you pout. "I wish i could stay with you the rest of the week"
He smiles. "i'll be home in a few days baby then we can do more of this" he kisses you once more and then grabs your dress handing it to you. "I love you" He said as he got dressed. You hop off the counter and say as you fix your dress when you put it back on. "i love you too cowboy"
A/n:damn that was fun to write!

Hey There Darlin' - Chapter 2
A Glen Powell RPF Series
Tumblr media
Glen
Glen walks out of the bathroom and makes his way over to the bar, reaching up to run his fingers through his hair and scanning the dancing crowd as he walks. It takes him all of thirty seconds to find her - the girl he realises he’s been unconsciously keeping tabs on all night, unable to help his smile as he watches her laugh and dance away to the music. She looks free and happy, and unbelievably sexy, and Glen almost groans as she tosses her hair and swings her hips.
God.
He’d spoken to her for a whole three minutes, he didn’t even know her name. And yet, he couldn’t seem to stop looking at her, thinking about her. Was he really this starved of female attention? It had been more than a year since he’d broken up with his long term girlfriend of three years and sure he’d had some flings since, but Glen knew deep down he was a relationship guy.
He’d always been a homebody, and he loved having someone at home at the end of the day, someone to wake up to in the morning. He loved spending time with his family in Austin, or just at home with his dog Brisket, and having someone to share that with was everything to him. All of that was virtually impossible to have all the time in his line of work though, but still it didn’t stop him from trying. For Glen it was one of the hardest things that unfortunately came hand in hand with his fame, especially as he was starting to take on new and bigger projects.
That, and the fact that finding someone that was otherwise immune to fame seemed to be a near impossible feat. The way he figured it, he had two options. Either find someone that was already in the spotlight - which made some things easier of course, but then the whole different schedules and never seeing each other thing was basically inevitable. Or, find someone who was not famous but still had their own life and routines and schedules, but was somehow indifferent to the fact that privacy would virtually be no longer. The longer he thought about it, the more he was convinced that option two didn’t actually exist.
He’s standing in the bar queue when he notices a petite girl in a fitted, mango coloured dress making a bee-line towards him, her long black hair falling like a dark curtain around her high cheek-boned face. He’s suddenly certain she’ll ask him for a selfie - he’s been stopped for a photo only twice tonight which was less than usual, though given the exclusivity of the event was what he expected, but after a moment he instead recognises her as one of the friends of the bar girl.
She pauses when she reaches him, flashing a confident smile before leaning into him to speak over the heavy bass of the music.
“Hello”
“Hey there” he replies back, immediately noting her proper British accent.
“My name’s Sloane. I believe you've met my friend Billie” she says, gesturing with her head back to the crowd behind them, pushing her black sunglasses up onto her head and revealing a pair of pale, ice blue eyes.
“Billie?” He says, his word more of a question than an answer, his eyebrows raised.
Sloane looks taken aback for a moment, shaking her head a second later.
“She didn't introduce herself? Oh Billie” she replies, clicking her tongue in disappointment, “I figured she'd have at least told you her name”.
Glen shakes his head no, watching as Slone glances over to the stage and rolls her eyes before turning back to him.
Glen smiles. Billie.
“Well, seeing as Billie clearly hasn’t, I'll do this for her” Sloane adds, offering him a charming smile, “My friend Billie, thinks you are very attractive”.
Glen chuckles, raising his eyebrows again, unable to help his smile. “That's funny, I think your friend Billie, is very attractive”.
Sloane laughs, a soft, musical laugh. “She's gorgeous actually. And, she's single”.
Glen tilts his head, regarding Sloane. “Does Billie know you're here talking to me?”.
Sloane grins. “No, and before you ask, yes, she is going to give me the third degree when I get back and tell her I just spoke to you about her”.
Glen laughs out loud this time, dropping his head back.
“So I don't know how people in positions such as yourself pass on details, but I figure you don't give out your number easily for obvious reasons” Sloane goes on in a very no-nonsense tone, Glen realising suddenly that she knows who he is.
He wonders idly if Billie knows who he is, looking over Sloane’s shoulder and spying her in the distance still dancing, seemingly oblivious that her friend is over at the bar talking to a complete stranger about her.
“So” Sloane says, pausing and getting her phone out of her bag, Glen watching as she briefly taps away at the screen before holding up her phone to face him, “This is Billie's Instagram”.
Glen is taken aback for a moment, undoubtedly very impressed by Sloane’s wing-woman efforts, looking back at her confident smile and wondering why on earth he’s hesitating when he’s been watching and thinking about Billie since the moment he met her in line.
He lets out a silent breath and pulls his phone from his pocket, opening the Instagram app and copying the words from Sloane’s screen onto his. He taps on the first name and is taken to her profile, immediately noting the picture of Billie’s smiling face next to a happily panting, golden retriever. He smiles when he sees that she already follows him, wetting his lips with his tongue as he taps on the blue follow button.
Glen puts his phone back in his pocket, unable to help his smile as he looks back at Sloane.
“You're one hell of a wingman Sloane”.
She grins then, tilting her head and shrugging her shoulders nonchalantly. “That I am”.
Glen is pleasantly surprised. This is a first for him. He hasn’t had a girl try and chat him up for a friend before, though he can’t say he’s met many girls that are as straight-forward as Sloane.
The bar line suddenly moves forward and it’s his turn to order, Glen turning to Sloane.
“Are you getting another drink?”.
Sloane nods, “Another round of mojitos”.
Glen steps forward and orders his round and the three cocktails for her, Sloane saying her thanks as she leans on the bar beside him. He feels himself sway slightly, trying to do mental maths of how many drinks he’s had today, though gives up seconds later when it becomes all too difficult.
“So what brought you to this gig?” he asks as they wait for their drinks, shifting slightly so he’s out of the direct glare of the sun.
The sun is starting to set now, a deep, orange glow illuminating the rooftop in the way that only happens on those warm summer evenings, the gentle breeze in the air slightly cooler and finally offering relief from the earlier relentless LA heat.
Sloane shrugs, pulling her sunglasses back down onto her face.
“Honestly, Billie and Bec dragged me here. I don't mind Rufus, but really I was just happy for a night out with the girls. Those two are the real fans”.
“What about you, who are you here with?” she asks, reaching up to brush an errant hair from her cheek.
Glen explains that he’s here with a close friend from back home in Austin, and a couple of his actor friends.
“They invited me and then I invited Drew, and it just ended up being this big group of us” he says, turning back to the bar when the three mojitos are up and pushing them in front of Sloane, “I’m probably gonna pay for it tomorrow but I’ve gotta admit I’ve had a really good day”.
His own drinks are up moments later, Sloane picking up her three as he does the same, the two stepping away from the bar together.
“That’s tomorrow’s problem” Sloane says with a laugh, lifting the three drinks to her face and taking a drink from the closest one, “I mean, how often do you really just get to relax and have a good time with friends, especially out in public?”.
Glen only laughs, considering Sloane’s words. He can’t actually remember the last time he’d had a day like this, maybe a year or so ago when he was in Greece with his girlfriend and friends? Maybe last New Year's Eve with his family? Has it really been that long?
Sloane shakes her head. “If you have to think about it like that, it doesn’t happen enough”.
Glen just smiles. “You’re alright, Sloane”.
Sloane grins now, flashing her white teeth in a confident smile. “I’m better than alright actually”.
They both laugh and Sloane says goodbye, wiggling her eyebrows and telling him that she hopes she’ll see him around later, gesturing with her cup filled hands over to the dancefloor.
He only laughs, his alcohol tinged brain already having decided that there was no way tonight was ending without him speaking to Billie again, the thought of seeing her gorgeous smile making his breath catch in his throat.
He nods to Sloane and watches as she turns away to make her way to her friends on the dance floor, Glen balancing his own drinks and walking back to his friends across the way.

Billie
“Thank God for that breeze” Billie says to seemingly no one, flustered and breathy from dancing in the busy crowd.
She takes off her hat and leans her forearms on the bar table, closing her eyes for a moment and taking a second to breathe in the open space. She’s a little tipsy, perhaps one mojito too many, and hot and slightly sweaty from dancing among the sea of bodies near the stage.
The sunset had brought with it a soft breeze, the gentlest whisper of a cooler air. It's a welcome reprieve to her heated skin, Billie letting out a breath as she pushes her sunglasses onto her head.
She looks over at the crowd - the warm orange glow of the setting sun casting long shadows over everyone, to find Bec still dancing away, lost in her own little world among the deep bass and dancing guests. Sloane had retreated to the bathroom as Billie had announced she needed a minute out of the crowd, leaving Bec dancing on her own - not that she apparently cared or noticed.
She looks over her shoulder to where the guy - Glen, had been earlier with his friends. She does a quick scan, unable to find him in the crowd, still not quite believing that the guy she’d been flirting with in the bar queue was the Glen Powell. She wonders why she hadn’t been able to tell at the time - sure he’d been wearing sunglasses, but sunglasses were hardly a disguise, reasoning that she’d been too caught up in his charming smile and golden skin to properly put it together.
Still, Glen Powell. Of all people. Handsome was not nearly enough of an adjective to properly describe him. He was gorgeous, in that Texan, all-American, almost bad-boy kind of way, Billie again thinking back to the time she’d seen the new Top Gun movie with the girls but this time thinking about a different leading man other than Miles Teller.
God.
She lets out another deep breath, idly wondering if she would see him again tonight, pulling out her phone to check her reflection in the screen and looking up when Sloane suddenly appears beside her.
“Have you checked your phone?”.
Billie smooths down some flyaway hairs from her face before looking back at her friend in question.
“Hmm?”
Sloane shakes her head. “Your phone, have you checked it?”.
“What are you talking about?” Billie asks, looking back at her phone and double tapping on the screen so that it lights up in her hand.
There’s a text from Lisa - one of her work colleagues, asking how Rufus was, and a number of instagram notifications that appeared to be reactions to her story uploads of her and the girls.
“What am I looking for?” Billie asks, still confused, looking up at Sloane briefly as she taps on the text message and replies to Lisa telling her that it’s been incredible.
“Open your instagram”.
Billie obliges, still wondering what on earth Sloane is going on about, opening the instagram app and tapping the little heart icon to bring up her notifications. She frowns as she scrolls, all of a sudden letting out an involuntary gasp and feeling her breath catch when she realises what Sloane is talking about.
@glenpowell has started following you
“You did not” Billie nearly stammers, looking back up at her friend with wide eyes.
Sloane only smiles, shrugging her shoulders innocently.
“I did”
“Sloane!”
“What?” she asks, her tone almost one of offence, “It was the least I could do. I can’t believe you didn’t even tell him your name!”.
Billie shakes her head in exasperation, a myriad of emotions suddenly running through her head.
Morbid embarrassment? She could easily imagine Sloane finding him and confidently explaining that her friend Billie was single and found him attractive. It was such a Sloane thing to do - the woman was the most poised, self assured person Billie knew. Nothing ever phased her, it was the reason she was such a good paramedic. It certainly wasn’t the first time Sloane had done this either - there’d been multiple occasions where she’d flexed her wing woman responsibilities and tried to set Billie up with gorgeous strangers.
For a moment Billie doesn’t know how to feel. It’s shock and excitement and nerves all tangled into one. Glen fucking Powell was following her on Instagram! But what did that mean? He was attracted to her, just like she was to him? Their flirty interactions had certainly been real, Billie unable to deny that a part of her has been thinking about him and his damn gorgeous smile since she’d left him at the bar earlier. Did this mean that he’d been thinking about her the same?
“Billie, you’re a fucking babe. Own it” Sloane says, the straw she’s drinking from making a slurping sound when she reaches the bottom of her drink, “You should have seen the way he smiled when I told him you’re single. He’s into you”.
“I can’t believe you just went up to a celebrity, and told him to follow your friend on Instagram”.
Sloane shrugs, raising one perfectly manicured eyebrow. “He did it without hesitation too. So what does that tell you?”.
Billie lets out a heavy breath through her nose, shaking her head at Sloane in disbelief. “You could have given me a heads up that you were going to do that”.
Sloane snorts. “And you’d have said nothing if I did tell you first?”.
Billie shoots a deadpan look at her friend. “You’d have just done it anyway, regardless of what I would have said”.
Sloane shrugs, lips parting in a smile. “Yeah. Probably”.
Billie rolls her eyes and laughs.
“So what now?” Billie asks, deciding she needs to tell Bec what’s happened as she looks over at the crowd, before looking back at Sloane across from her.
She frowns when she sees Sloane’s smile has widened into a grin, her head tilted as she looks at something over Billie’s shoulder.
“I think you’re about to find out”.
---
Glen
Glen can’t help the way his eyes travel up Billie’s legs as he walks towards her, balancing four full plastic cups in his hands. She’s tanned and toned, serious muscles telling him that she must go to the gym or at least run regularly, her ass round and perky underneath her white shorts. Suddenly, his alcohol-soaked mind can’t help but think about what she’d look like naked.
Fuck.
Sloane catches his eye over Billie’s shoulder, her smile telling him she’d seen him looking at Billie, and suddenly he can’t control the goofy, drunken smile that spreads across his lips.
“I figured you ladies could use a refill” he announces as he reaches the table, Sloane grinning at him and Billie visibly startling when he appears beside her.
“Well aren’t you just the gentleman” Sloane remarks, tilting her head and flashing a charming smile as he puts the drinks down on the bar table and slides one over towards her.
Glen only grins, nodding at Sloane, before turning to look at Billie beside him.
Just for a second, he swears he forgets his own name.
It’s golden hour in the evening - that late, final time of the sunset when the sun is just about to disappear and everything is bathed in that brilliant, vivid warmth, making everything the light touches infinitely more beautiful.
Billie, is no exception to that.
Glen is instantly enamoured, completely, utterly mesmerised. It’s the first time he’s looked at Billie properly, this time without her sunglasses. For the first time ever, he understands what it means when people write about getting lost in someone’s eyes.
They’re big and beautiful - the colour unlike anything he’s ever seen, a mix of deep, sage green and warm, honey brown swirled together like ripples in a lake. She’s got long, dark, feathery lashes that he reasons have to be fake, making her eyes look even bigger as she blinks and looks back at him incredulously. The orange bathe of the setting sun makes them almost glow, her cheeks golden and smooth, her lips full and soft.
Suddenly, Glen isn’t sure if it’s the alcohol that’s making him feel warm or if it’s from looking at Billie.
“Glen” he says, extending his hand towards Billie, his throat feeling thick when she offers a gorgeous smile and takes his hand in a gentle shake, “I figured I should come over and introduce myself”.
Billie laughs softly. “Even though Sloane here has already apparently introduced me?”
Sloane lets out a laugh, lifting her hands in an innocent gesture when Billie shoots her a look.
“Billie” she replies before letting go of his hand.
“I’m just going to give this to Bec” Sloane says suddenly, Billie and Glen both turning to look at her, “Thanks for the drinks Glen”.
Sloane grins as she grabs two cups, giving Billie a very obvious wink which makes Glen chuckle, both of them watching as she makes her way off into the still dancing crowd.
Glen turns back to Billie, once again momentarily taken aback by her smile, leaning his elbow on the table.
“So” he says, chewing once again on a toothpick as he looks back at the gorgeous girl in front of him.
Tumblr media
Billie turns to face him, mirroring his position as she too leans on the table, tilting her head as she looks back at Glen.
She grins. “So”.

Jake Seresin x F!Reader
A/N: I just wanted to let y'all know how much your enthusiasm and encouragement means to me. Your support, whether it's in the form of comments, reblogs, or asks, literally inspires me to keep writing and I just wanted to say thank you for your kind words! You guys seriously rock!
Summary: The trials and tribulations of falling for your brother's best friend.
CW: Uhh.. you're gonna love it
WC: ~2500
Part 1 | Masterlist
Tumblr media
“What’re you up to tonight?” Jake asks casually, about five minutes after you’ve entered the kitchen.
You glance up from your still steeping tea hesitantly; you haven’t spoken to Jake since the pervious night at the club and you’ve all but resolved never to make eye contact with him again. “Uh,” you begin shakily, the stress of the situation resulting in a minor mental shutdown.
You watch as your brother tries on a third Hawaiian shirt and walks over to the mirror in the front hall to check himself out.
You gulp uneasily, your eyes meeting Jake’s as Bradley leaves the kitchen. “Just studying,” you finish, finally remembering your plans for the evening.
“Studying, huh?” Bradley calls from the foyer. A second later, he reemerges with a smirk on his face. “I know what that means.” He wiggles his eyebrows at you and then shoots Jake a knowing grin.
Jake appears, at the very least, unimpressed with Bradley’s insinuation and, quite possibly, even critical of it. He gives him an irked look and proceeds to flip more aggressively through an old National Geographic magazine, one from the stack currently sitting on the living room coffee table. “You look like a douche in that shirt,” Jake grumbles.
Bradley’s eyebrows converge as he stares at his friend with a mixture of shock and disappointment. “Is that true?” he asks, turning to you for support as if you’re there to mediate.
You shrug. “I don’t think the shirt has anything to do with it,” you say.
Jake snorts out a laugh while Bradley’s mouth falls open in outrage. He looks between you and Jake and shakes his head. “That’s how it’s gonna be?”
“Maybe wear a t-shirt,” you suggest. “Borrow one of Jake’s.”
Jake gives you an amused look. “You think I’m just handing out band tees?”
Bradley narrows his eyes. “I feel like I’m missing something.”
“I just finished a load of laundry and I’ve got a Pantera shirt you can wear,” you continue, already smiling in anticipation of Jake’s reaction.
Jake lifts his eyebrows with a grin. “I thought that wasn’t appropriate dating attire. Too many skulls or some shit?”
Bradley places his hands on his hips and tilts his head suspiciously. “I…” he begins. “I have questions,” he concludes, still glancing between you and Jake. His knotted eyebrows indeed confirm just how perplexed he is. “But I’m already late. So, I guess douche shirt’s gonna have to do.” He grabs his jacket off the back of a kitchen chair and heads back out into the hall.
“Have fun!” Jake calls, leaning into the table so that his voice carries through to the front door.
“You sure you don’t want to come?” Bradley calls back. “We’ll be meeting up with her friends later tonight. They’re female.”
You roll your eyes, removing the tea bag from your mug. You look up to see that Jake’s gaze is trained on you.
“I’m good,” Jake calls back, finally breaking eye contact with you. He reverts his attention to the article before him detailing the mating rituals of various species of primates.
“See you tomorrow, then!” Bradley calls, and then the door shuts behind him.
A predictable, but still awkward, silence follows Bradley's departure. You finish preparing your tea while your heart batters relentlessly against your ribcage, daring you to say something – anything – about the previous night’s affairs. Naturally, you ignore this sensible impulse, starting for the staircase mutely after shooting Jake a quick, rigid smile.
Jake’s eyes follow you as you cross the room. “You got a date with ‘study group’ guy?” he asks pointedly, using air quotes to emphasize study group as though your evening is sure to consist of anything but that.
You pause, holding your mug close to your chest. “It’s not a date,” you say, although, at this point, you kind of wish that it were.
Jake raises his eyebrows like your response has only served to reinforce his skepticism. “Why do you even need to study?” he says with a cringe. “You’re already smart.”
You purse your lips to suppress a grin. “Funny,” you comment, continuing toward the stairs.
“I could help,” Jake offers.
You glance at him over your shoulder in surprise. “What?”
Jake closes the magazine and straightens his back. “I could help you study.”
You stare at him, trying to imagine how that might go down. “What do you know about psychology?” you ask, having already decided that, despite his noblest intentions, Jake’s assistance would be absolutely useless.
Jake scoffs. “I don’t need to know anything about it to help you cram for a test. You got flash cards?”
You give him a flat look. “It’s an oral exam.”
The corner of his mouth twitches. “Say what, now?”
You close your eyes and massage your temple irritably. “It’s worth fifty percent of my grade.”
Jake grimaces. “How good are you at oral?”
You let out an indignant cry, wishing you had something in your hands to throw at him other than a ceramic mug full of scalding liquid. “And this is why I’m studying with ‘study group’ guy,” you retort, stomping up the stairs.
“I’m joking!” Jake laughs, getting to his feet. “Come back!”
But you’re already on the second floor and you shut your bedroom door before he can say anything else.
Twenty minutes later, you return with your book bag, your empty mug, and a disparaging look on your face as Jake approaches the bottom of the stairs to greet you with a sheepish grin.
“Come on, Baby B,” he says as you set your bag down and glide by him with an eyeroll, heading for the sink. “It was a joke.” He follows you through the kitchen and leans into the counter as you start to wash your mug.
You bite into the inside of your cheek to keep a straight face. It’s not every day that Jake takes responsibility for his actions, and you’re sort of enjoying the groveling. “I’m not mad, I just think you’re an idiot.”
“See? I told you you’re smart,” Jake says.
You sigh, glancing up at him wearily. “Unfortunately, my extensive knowledge of Jake Seresin isn’t going to help me pass my midterm.”
“Shame,” he responds with a slight grin. “’Cause you’d ace that.”
You chuckle. “You think?”
Jake’s smile falters and he leans his back into the refrigerator. His eyes scan your face like he’s searching for something. You wonder if he’s finally going to address the elephant in the room, but he just exhales moodily and drops his gaze. “Well, have fun,” he mumbles to the floor.
You narrow your eyes and let out a somewhat resentful scoff. It’s just like Jake to lead a girl on, and you should have known that – after all, you’re apparently the leading expert on Jake Seresin. “Oh yes,” you say. “Studying’s a blast.”
Jake lifts his eyes solemnly. “Come on, you’re not that naïve.”
“What are you talking about?” you ask, picking your book bag back up.
Jake’s gaze slips briefly to your bare abdomen, framed by the hem of your crop top and the band of your baggy joggers. “This dude only wants one thing,” he says. “And it’s not to help you prepare for midterms.”
You let out a cackle and head out of the kitchen. “Seresin, please!” you exclaim. “Not every guy in the world is a total pig.”
“How many people are you meeting tonight?” he asks, trailing behind you.
You pause at the door before putting on your shoes. “He couldn’t get a hold of anyone else,” you respond innocently, trying not to cringe at the – now that you think about it – ridiculous excuse ‘study group’ guy has given you.
“Right,” Jake mutters, taking the bag off your shoulder when you bend down to put on your sneakers.
You stand back up and your eyes meet his for a moment. He looks like he’s got more to say but you have a feeling he isn’t going to say it. “I can handle myself,” you reassure him.
Jake watches you with a dubious expression. “As long as you know what you’re walking into,” he says.
You laugh, taking a step back to ease some of the tension that’s got your back muscles seizing up. “And even if he does have an ulterior motive – which I seriously doubt – would it really be so terrible?”
Jake doesn’t seem as amused at this prospect as you. “It would be manipulative,” he responds levelly.
You shrug nonchalantly. “I don’t think it’s a big deal.”
He squints slightly and you feel like he’s judging your answer. “I thought you needed to study.”
“I do!” you respond defensively. “And I’m not going with the intention of engaging in any…” you pause, thinking of a way to put what you’re about to say more delicately. “… other activities,” you finish with a minor wince. “But, if an opportunity happens to present itself –”
Jake raises his eyebrows. “An opportunity,” he echoes in the same disapproving tone.
“What, like you’ve never taken advantage of an opportunity.”
Jake juts out his jaw in a sulking manner, pondering over your allegation without disputing it. He looks a fair bit guilty but that may very well be your personal interpretation. Finally, he reaches for the door and opens it resignedly. “Call me if you need me,” he says.
You sigh, standing in front of the open door. “You don’t have any plans?” you ask, almost cautiously because you probably don’t want to know the answer.
Jake purses his lips and shakes his head.
This gives you pause, but you try not to let the defeated look on his face sway you. You aren’t sure what he stands to gain from this particular transaction, but you doubt his motive for offering to help is entirely altruistic.
Perhaps he’s gunning for a clean slate. Trying to be a friend. Trying to eclipse recent, reprehensible behavior with an act of goodwill. Maybe he’s worried that you’re mad, or that he might lose you.
The fact of the matter is, you could speculate till the cows come home, but you won’t know unless you ask. So, in a move not even you could have predicted, you do just that. “Why would you even want to waste your evening studying?” you probe.
Jake tilts his head to the side and squints his eyes at you in confusion. “Just tryin’ to help,” he responds.
You look down at your feet uncomfortably and shrug, but continue prodding, nonetheless. “I mean, you could be out with my brother.” What you really want to say is that he could be hooking up with a new chick within the hour if he feels like it; it wouldn’t even be a challenge.
“Didn’t wanna crash his date.”
You glance up at him sharply, wondering if that is, indeed, the only reason he chose to stay behind. His eyes slide slowly over your face as though he’s trying to guess what you’re going to say next. You gulp uneasily; being scrutinized by the guy of your dreams is hardly an enjoyable pastime. At the same time, it’s wildly thrilling to have his undivided attention. “No other reason?” you ask with a slight break in your voice, your throat decidedly too dry to pose any further questions.
Jake glances pointedly at the open door he's still holding and then back at you. He doesn’t respond, nor does he inquire why you’ve still not left. Instead, he starts to slowly close the door, his eyes boring into yours so intently you think the weight of his gaze might vaporize you.
You feel a warmth wash over you – no; a heat. It’s a distressingly abrupt sensation, like you’ve been shoved into an oven set to broil. But it’s nothing new. You’ve experienced this kind of nauseating high before and you’re just as unamused with this bodily reaction now as you’ve been in the past.
Jake stands very still, his back to the door he’s just shut, stalling. And despite the very persistent voice in the back of your head telling you he can’t possibly be interested in pursuing anything remotely romantic with his best friend’s little sister, the hesitation on his face is telling quite a different tale. Jake is torn.
You can relate. You’ve been simultaneously longing for and avoiding direct contact with him for ages. “You, uh” – you take a shallow breath and nervously lick your lips. “You think I’ll get more studying done if I stay?” you ask faintly.
Jake watches you carefully, as though he’s giving himself a minute to consider your question. He takes a step toward you, lowering his face to maintain eye contact. And, while his expression remains mostly impassive, you swear that you notice a brief flicker of exhilaration pass over his features right before he says, “I can’t promise that.”
You stare at him, frozen in place as he takes your chin in his hand and lifts it ever so slightly, as if he knows that you’re in no condition to elevate it on your own. Then, just as you’re about to say something completely irrelevant to fill the silence, Jake’s lips pass softly over yours.
And that’s when you come entirely apart. Your book bag crashes to the floor as your arm drops limply at your side. Your legs vibrate feebly, fighting to keep you standing. But you ignore the – indeed concerning – widespread weakness sweeping through your body. Because the only matter worth attending to is Jake’s hand as it slides purposely down to your throat, his thumb curling around as though he means to choke you.
Admittedly, you’d let him.
But his fingers don’t commit to a firm grasp by any means, instead, they glide up and down, intermittently applying a gentle pressure to your neck as his tongue curves boldly into your open mouth.
Jake Seresin is kissing you.
In a way that no one’s ever kissed you before. In a way that rattles you. Because it’s hungry and unreserved. Because it’s dangerously intimate. Because it’s Jake Seresin.
He’s kissing you like he already knows just how you like to be kissed. Or… the way you like to be kissed just happens to be the way he kisses. He’s had plenty of practice, after all.
Whatever the case may be, there’s a fire at the tip of every one of his fingers, and it follows the length of your collarbone in their wake. There’s a spark in the friction of every touch, at every point of contact.
It’s in the sweet burn of your bottom lip when he catches it between his teeth. It’s in the way he nudges your face with the tip of his nose in between kisses. It’s in his eyes when he finally releases your lips and meets your gaze; it’s in the silence.
You swallow, looking up at him anxiously, unsure how it’s even possible that you’re still standing. Jake is watching you with an unsettling blend of affection and alarm. He sighs finally and tugs on your elbow, pulling you in to rest his forehead over yours. “Fuck,” he mutters, closing his eyes and releasing a heavy – and noticeably unsteady – breath. “Your brother’s gonna kill me.”

Part 2
Tumblr media
Life came at you fast. One moment you were planning your wedding with the supposed ‘love of your life’ Aaron, the next you were on the floor of your shared apartment wondering why he had to go and ruin everything. You and Aaron had met back in college when you were both studying engineering. He swept you off your feet, quite literally. A mishap in a chemistry lab had him picking you up so you wouldn’t get burned. From then on, the two of you had been inseparable.
Aaron was everything you wanted in a man. He was sweet, kind, funny and just an overall good person to be around. At least, that’s what you thought. The two of you moved to Michigan after graduating, both of you securing well-paying engineering jobs. You thought you were happy, you thought you’d start a life in Michigan but apparently Aaron had other plans.
You stated noticing odd behaviors from your fiancée five years into the relationship. His once calm and kind demeanor changed ever so slightly. He snapped at you often, something your Aaron wouldn’t have dreamed of doing even just a year prior. He wasn’t fun to be around anymore, you tried to make jokes that would have made him laugh and crack one back with you, but he just rolled his eyes at you instead.
You weren’t sure when it all started culminating but you were damn near a breaking point. Five years into a relationship and his personality changed so drastically over the last six months. You tried taking advice from both your mom and aunts, but nothing worked.
All the tension came to a head when you were out one night with a friend, Mandy, heading to the local bars. Aaron was supposed to be gone for the week on a work trip. He was indeed not on a work trip. Mandy spotted him and excitedly tried to drag you over to him. Your eyes widened and you yanked your arm away from her. She didn’t know Aaron was supposed to be gone. You quickly ducked your head and walked to a side of the bar you were sure he couldn’t see you from. Mandy was clearly confused but followed you anyway.
“He’s not supposed to be here Mandy.” Y/N said while quietly sipping on the whisky sour you had ordered earlier.
“Where’s he supposed to be then?” She asked with confusion laced on her brow.
Y/N took a slow and drawn-out breath while closing her eyes knowing something wasn’t right. Mandy was looking at you expectantly when you opened your eyes again, “Minnesota, for work.”
She bit her lip trying to come up with any excuse for him in the book. You gave her a sad smile while shifting around a few people trying to get a better line of sight on the liar.
Your heart sunk when a beautiful girl seemed to appear out of thin air wrapping her dainty arms around your fiancée. You bit the inside of your cheek hard, trying to will the tears that were threatening to spill to stay put. You continued to watch half hoping it was just a friend, God willing it’d just be a friend. Your heart shattered when he placed a soft kiss on her lips smiling like the fucking idiot he was. Your teeth clenched down harder drawing a metallic taste from your mouth.
“Oh, Y/N, let’s go.” Mandy softly grabbed at your arm attempting to pull you away from the bar. Your legs felt like lead as she tried to drag you away. You couldn’t hear anything nor process what you saw. You heard your heart beating slow and not so steady. Closing your eyes again you swallowed the blood that pooled in your mouth.
“I should go up to him.” You mumbled ignoring Mandy’s protests.
This time Mandy squeezed your arm trying to get you to snap out of whatever daze you were in, “That’d be an awful idea Y/N. Take some pictures and let’s go home.”
You nodded taking another sip from your sour, nearly hissing when it hit the open wound from your cheek bite. The fucking loser was continuing to hurt you without even realizing it. Mandy snapped a few more pictures making sure to get everything.
That’s how you landed on the floor of your shared apartment silently crying. The gravity of the situation finally hit you, your life you wanted to start was over. Aaron ruined it before it could really begin.
You sent the pictures to your mom and aunts who, of course, were nothing but supportive. They helped to get you out of the situation. Your mom flew in to help you pack your things and your Aunt Penny offered to let you come out to San Diego and live with her for a while. You worked it out with your boss, he agreed to let you work from home rather than lose you completely. You were free to go to San Diego for the next six months.
The actual breakup was heartbreaking yet again. Aaron almost looked relieved when you ended it only confirming your worst nightmare, being used in a relationship. It was a blessing in disguise you kept telling yourself as you made the 35-hour drive to your Aunt Penny’s. It certainly was the biggest blessing in disguise for Y/N.
Tumblr media
You pulled up to Penny’s blue home three days after starting your cross-country road trip. You smiled taking in the views around you, smelling the salty ocean air that was unfamiliar to you. The air was warm and refreshing and the ocean front views went on for miles. Penny and Amelia ran outside to greet you, more than excited to have you come stay with them.
“Y/N!” Amelia yelled running up to you throwing herself into your outstretched arms.
“Meals!” You enthusiastically replied, “you’ve grown.” You whispered into her hair as you held her closely.
“You would have known that if you visited.” She stuck her tongue out at you after getting a better look at you.
You ruffled her hair sighing, realizing just how much you missed out because of Aaron. “I know, that’s on me. Don’t let stupid boys make decisions for you.” She nodded her head smiling while backing away, giving room for Penny to sneak in.
“It’s okay,” Penny cooed pulling you into a hug, “we’ve got plenty of time to catch up.”
You nodded your head feeling very good about the decision to stow away at the Benjamin household for a while. “How’ve you been Aunt Pen?” You asked while grabbing a suitcase out of the back. Amelia came around and started unloading the contents with you.
“Been wonderful.” She grinned ear to ear.
“Moms got a boyfriend.” Amelia giggled while wiggling her eyebrows, “A pilot boyfriend.”
“Really?” You asked your aunt, eyebrows raised in curiosity.
She nodded, “I do. He’ll be around tonight.”
“What’s tonight? Anything happening?” Y/N asked nobody in particular.
Amelia ran inside with your items leaving you alone with Penny.
“Nothing major. I’ve got to close the Hard Deck tonight. He usually stops by to say hello. Along with a few other aviators.”
You smirked at your blushing aunt, “A boyfriend huh? Is he cute? What’s his name? Can I come tonight?”
She laughed at your rapid-fire questions, “Of course he’s cute! Very handsome. His name is Pete Mitchell.” Penny smiled thinking about him. “And yes of course you can come on by, it’s always a good time on a Friday night.”
“Oh, so you’re in love love.” Y/N smirked grabbing the last of the items from your car.
Penny shrugged, “A bit.”
Tumblr media
“How do I look Amelia?” You asked your cousin as you walked down the stairs.
She grinned setting down the book she was reading, “Beautiful, as always.”
“You’re way too nice to me Meals.” You smiled sitting down next to her on the couch.
She shrugged, looking eerily like her mother, “It’s the truth.”
“We’ll thank you, you’re my favorite cousin.”
“I’m your only cousin!” She laughed punching you in the shoulder lightly.
“Precisely.” You winked getting up from the couch. “So, what am I walking into?” You eyed the fridge containing beer, you knew one would calm your nerves.
She peeked back over her book, “Lots of flyboys. All cute too. Some cool girls come around too.”
You nodded cracking open the beer, getting rather nervous hearing that, “Pretty cute hmm?”
She nodded her head enthusiastically, “I think so. They’re all very kind. Just twice my age. So, it’s more of a looking situation for me.”
“Not twice mine.”
Amelia giggled shaking her head, “Mom always says no flyboys. I assume she’ll say the same for you. Bit of a hypocrite she is.”
This time it was your turn to laugh, “Sounds like she knows something.”
Amelia nodded looking down at the time, “You better go if you want to beat Mav there.”
“Mav?”
“Maverick, it’s Pete’s callsign. They all have one.”
You nodded finishing the rest of the beer, “I have no idea what I’m getting myself into.”
“You’ll have fun! Go! Don’t think of that stupid boy either. Enjoy the night.” She shot up from her spot on the couch and began pushing you towards the front door.
You put your hands up, “Alright, alright! Have a good night, Meals.”
“You to! But not too much.”
Tumblr media
You hesitantly walked towards the Hard Deck really regretting your decision to go out tonight. You just weren’t feeling up to it now. All you really wanted to do was grab a pint of ice cream and hang out with Amelia.
Sighing you pushed open the door to the bar taking in your surroundings quickly. Everybody appeared to be normal, no flyboys in sight. Smiling you walked over to the bar spotting Penny’s blonde hair.
“There you are, was beginning to worry you wouldn’t show.” She grinned grabbing you a beer and setting it down in front of you.
“Thanks Pen. Your daughter distracted me when I was leaving.”
She shook her head, “Pete and the crew should be here any moment.”
You nodded taking a big sip of the beer, hoping to feel lightly buzzed before meeting a bunch of new people.
True to Penny’s word a few people in uniform came waltzing through. All of them seemed to ooze confidence which sent you scrunching down in your chair trying to avoid any and all eye contact. It’s not that you didn’t like meeting new people, it’s just that they were all so intimidating. You snapped your head back to Penny with wide eyes.
“What’s the matter?” She laughed pouring what you assumed to be Pete’s beer.
“They’re terrifying.” You whispered leaning in close.
She let out an alarmingly loud laugh that you were sure grabbed the attention of the crew, “Hardly love. They may look it but they’re a bunch of hooligans.”
“I can attest to that.” A male voice spoke from behind sending you nearly jumping out of your seat.
“Jesus.” You took a breath and turned around to look at the very handsome man.
“Pete! This is Y/N. She finally made it in from Michigan.” Penny handed him his beer as he sat down next to you.
“Hello.” You smiled at him taking another good look at him while sipping on your own beer.
“Nice to meet you Y/N. Penny’s told me all about you.”
You turned to your aunt with a raised brow, “She’s always had a big mouth.”
“Hey!” Penny laughed hitting you with the bar rag, “Only good things I promise Y/N.”
“I believe you Aunt Pen.” You smiled brightly at your aunt.
“Alright, let me go serve the kids and I’ll be back.” She winked at the both of you before turning around to a ‘kid’ who was sporting a rather pornstache looking mustache. You noticed him pointing over to you and Penny looking back at you. Rather uncomfortably you turned your entire body to Pete and tried to distract yourself.
“So, Pete, are you good to my Aunt Pen?”
He smiled watching her pour beers and hand them to the kid, “Of course. I lost her once and I’m certainly not planning on doing that again.”
“Good.” You nodded taking another swig from your glass.
“And you? What’s your story kiddo?”
You sighed not really wanting to get into the nitty gritty details with Penny’s boyfriend, “My fiancée cheated on me. I needed to get away and Penny offered her place for a while.”
He nodded slowly taking you in this time, “Sorry kid. People suck sometimes.”
You bobbed your head unsure what to say to the man, “Indeed they do.” You said while sighing, finishing off the beer.
“Not all of them suck,” he smirked finishing his off at the same time, “Looks like somebody else has some eyes for you.” He set his glass down and stood up, motioning for that somebody to come over.
“Don’t leave me.” You pleaded seeing him start to walk away.
He laughed, “From what Penny tells me, you’ll be able to handle him just fine.” He winked and disappeared behind a few people. You sighed yet again scrunching your nose up, not too thrilled with the situation you had landed yourself in.
“Need another?” A new voice spoke from behind. Y/N turned around slowly shyly smiling at the aviator in behind her.
“Uhh, sure.” You bit your lip turning back towards the bar cursing your inability to even hold a conversation with the handsome stranger.
“You mind?” He pointed to the chair.
You shook your head no racking your brain for anything to say to the man sitting beside you. He was beautiful Y/N thought. A far departure from her once fiancée Aaron, the stranger sported blonde hair and green eyes, stunning green eyes. Y/N took a breath and smiled again at him.
“I’m Y/N.”
“Beautiful name for an even more beautiful woman.” He grinned calling Penny over to refill both drinks.
You couldn’t stop the light blush that crept across your face, earning a chuckle from the handsome stranger sitting next to you.
“Don’t even think about it Hangman.” Penny spoke eyeing her niece and the serial player sitting close together, “Not my niece.” She glared at him taking both glasses.
He chuckled sticking his hand out to you, “Jake Seresin, callsign Hangman.”
You took his hand gingerly in yours shaking it briefly, “Nice to meet you.” You eyed him curiously waiting for an explanation that was never going to come.
“Hangman?” You questioned.
“Long story.” He nodded scooting ever so slightly closer to you.
“Like the kids game?”
This time he laughed, loudly, drawing the attention of his fellow aviators. “Exactly like the kids game.”
You nodded, “That’s interesting.”
“Just like me sweetheart.”
You could feel another blush creep up, you mentally cursed your face for giving you away so easily. Y/N was flustered. Aaron wasn’t nearly as smooth as this beautiful man was before you. You didn’t know how to deal with this level of boldness, not quite used to the attention he was giving you.
Penny saved your racing thoughts setting the beers down rather hard eyeing Jake in the process. “I’ve got my eye on you Seresin.” She smiled walking away back over to Maverick on the other side of the bar.
“What’s that about?” You asked sincerely hoping for an honest answer from the man sitting even more closely now, not that you minded.
“Nothing sweetheart.” he finally looked back up into your eyes stopping whatever he was going to say.
This time it was his turn to sigh, “I might have a small reputation.”
Furrowing your eyebrows, you took a long drawn-out sip of your beer waiting for him to go on.
He ran a hand through his hair trying to figure out what to say to the beautiful woman sitting next to him. He wasn’t sure what had come over him, but her eyes stopped his usual spiel. It was like she was bearing her entire soul to him in just the way she was looking at him. He sucked in a breath before continuing.
“A playboy reputation?” He spoke timidly, grinning at her but he knew she could see right through it.
“Ahh, there it is.” Y/N clicked her tongue almost afraid to look back him. You knew you would get sucked back into his eyes, all green and perfect. It’s always the eyes for Y/N.
He gulped knowing his next words would dictate the way the rest of his night would go, “Come over and meet my friends. They’re a great group of people.”
You looked at him expectantly considering the options. He quickly pivoted away from that statement. Bud what else did you have to lose? You knew his end game now and you certainly weren’t going to let him take you home tonight.
“Sure.” You nodded standing from your seat. He grabbed your beer and led you over to the small group of people standing around the pool table. Jake cleared his through garnering the attention of the crew.
“This is Y/N, our dear Penny’s niece.”
“We know.” Pornstache guy smiled walking over to you, “Penny told me.” He winked at Jake before continuing looking down at you, “Bradley Bradshaw ma’am, these assholes call me Rooster.”
You smiled seeing the rest of the group groan telling him to shut up, “Nice to meet you, Bradley.” You opted for using his real name, not quite comfortable enough to use the nicknames just yet.
“These two are both trouble.” The lone female stepped up and pulled you away, “Natasha, or Phoenix.” She smiled snatching your beer away from Jake before handing it back to you. “Those two playing pool are Payback and Bob.”
You waved quickly turning your attention back to Natasha, “It’s a pleasure to meet you all, although slightly overwhelming.”
She laughed patting your back, “You just missed the big group. We just wrapped up a mission a few days ago. Everybody is getting reassigned. I luckily get to stay for a while longer with these smooth brains.”
“Hey now,” Jake walked back over eyeing you subtly, “You love us Phoenix.”
She scoffed, Love is a word you can use.” She spoke while rolling her eyes.
“So, Y/N,” Jake spoke in his oddly attractive southern draw, you turned you attention back to the man, “where are you from? What’s your story?”
You noticed the rest of the crew go back to what they were doing leaving you with Jake, Phoenix shaking her head used to Jake’s antics.
You tapped your glass thinking of what you wanted to tell him, “From Ohio, lived in Michigan, broke up with a guy and now I’m here.” You nodded your head knowing that’s all you wanted to say.
He chuckled this time taking his turn to respond. Noting that Y/N was closed off. “You want to go for a walk darling?”
You eyed him curiously, “Are you going to murder me?”
You earned a snort from him this time, “Now why would I do that to the beautiful woman I’m trying to take out on a date?”
You shrugged, “Just something a murderer would suggest.” You smiled up at him charmingly, “Wait, did you say date?”
“I did beautiful.” Smirking he took a long drink from his glass. You gulped eyeing him, how could one be so attractive taking a drink of beer?
You hummed keeping your eyes on him as he lowered his glass, “Maybe. You’ll have to convince me though.” You shrugged as nonchalantly as you could muster, trying to form some sort of confidence.
“Well let me take you on a walk then darling.” He grinned setting his empty glass down on a table.
“Alright,” you set your glass down and turned towards Natasha, “if I don’t come back though, he did it.” You pointed towards Jake.
She laughed, “Jake is many things, I don’t think he’s slick enough to get away with murder though.”
Jake rolled his eyes and softly touched your wrist, “May I?”
You snapped your body back around feeling his warm touch on your arm, “Okay.” You spoke while your brain short circuited from the contact. He pulled your arm gently into his side bringing you closely to him. You were sure your heart was about to beat right out of your chest.
The two of you walked slowly down the beach in a comfortable silence listening to the waves crash onto shore.
“From Ohio? And moved to Michigan?” He asked softly not wanting to startle you.
You hummed agreeing with his statement, “Got my degree and found a job in Michigan. It’s a beautiful state, just too cold in the winter.”
He chuckled, “It doesn’t get too cold in Texas.”
“That where you’re from?”
“Yes ma’am.” He spoke while rubbing his thumb along your forearm sending a wave of chills down your body. “Born and raised, Texas is home.”
“Never been.” You admitted.
He gasped, “Well I’ll be. I’ll take you there one day.” He squeezed your arm gently.
“Oh really?”
“If you let me that is.” He spoke sounding rather nervous, a far cry from his previous flirting.
“We’ll see Tic Tac Toe.”
He threw his head back laughing loudly, “Hangman darling.”
“I like Candyland better.” You looked up to him for the first time since you two left the bar smiling as his green eyes reflected the sunset on the horizon.
“Well, I’ll tell you what darling,” he stopped abruptly which halted you in place, “you can call me whatever kids game you want if you let me take you out?”
Giggling you bit your cheek to suppress the grin forming on your face, “That’s a tempting offer.”
He nodded, “Then take it.” He winked down at you pulling you slightly closer to him.
You did want to take his offer. He was a beautiful man practically begging you to go on one date with him. Why were you so apprehensive? Was it the look Penny gave you before you went off with him? Was it the thought of even attempting to form a new relationship so soon after the last one ended? Was it simply because you were scared? You looked up at him biting your lip softly trying to form a coherent sentence with him looking at you so expectantly.
“What’s got you thinking so hard beautiful?” He asked while raising his eyebrow, curious to the girl’s apprehension. Jake wasn’t used to it. Sure, women have played hard to get but he always knew their end game. With you? He wasn’t so sure. You were shy, quiet and seemed uncertain. Something was stopping you and it was already driving Jake mad. You were simply different, as cliché as that sounds. You clearly wanted to entertain his advances, but he could not figure out the why, yet.
You hummed still trying to figure out what to say to him. Of course, the stupid blush you couldn’t hide crept back up onto your face. Should you just tell him the truth? You didn’t want to offload so much onto this nearly complete stranger, but he seemed so earnest, so eager to learn about you that you had the urge to.
Still stopped on the supposed walk you were supposed to be taking you finally garnered the courage to speak to him, “Jake, I just got out of a long and quite frankly heartbreaking relationship. I don’t know if I’m ready yet. I don’t want to string you along or hurt you.” You finished the last part of your statement quietly, so quietly you weren’t sure if he heard it.
There it was, he knew there had to be something. He also knew you were a total sweetheart just in the admission. You didn’t want to hurt him?
“Do you want to talk about it?” He asked.
This question made you think. Did you want to talk about it? You’ve only talked to your mom about it, Penny a bit but the nitty gritty details were left out. You did want to talk about it, but with Jake? You weren’t sure.
“I don’t want to unload on you like that, I hardly know you.” You admitted sheepishly avoiding his gaze that never seemed to leave your face.
“And how do people get to know other people Y/N?” He asked sincerely, not trying to sound like an asshole but really trying to get to know you.
You let a small chuckle escape your mouth nodding your head to his point, “They talk.”
“Exactly.” He grinned at you once you finally got the courage to look back up to him, “And I asked about that, I want to know. But if you don’t want me to know that’s alright. There’s many things to talk about.”
You shook your head more in disbelief than anything, “Who are you, Jake? My aunt obviously thinks of you a certain way yet you’re speaking to me like somebody completely different.”
He shrugged, “She sees a certain persona that I want everybody to see. I’m not just that person, that’d make me a pretty awful person.”
“Then why do you put that persona out there?” You questioned, genuinely curious.
“That’s a great question Y/N. One that I’m still figuring out.”
You nodded at his honesty deciding to air out your own baggage to him, “My fiancée cheated on me. I’m not sure how many times or when it started but I caught him out one night at the bar making out with somebody else.” You spoke quickly.
He softly squeezed your arm in comfort, “That’s no man, darling. Dodged yourself a bullet.”
“Spent way to long chasing and holding onto that bullet.” You sighed.
The rest of your walk with Jake consisted of you spilling every detail, to an extent, to him. Something felt so right talking with him. He was the first person who just listened and let you speak your mind. He spoke up when you needed him to, but he let you get it al out. You also learned quite about him in return, you weren’t going to let him get away knowing so much of your baggage without knowing some of his.
He talked about the ‘one that got away’ and how he fucked it up. How his insecurities let the best thing that’s ever happened to him walk away. He admitted to you that he didn’t want to do that again, to feel such sadness knowing it was from your own mistakes.
Before the both of you knew it you spent two hours walking up and down the now dark beach as the sun had set hours prior. When you finally got back to the Hard Deck your aunt was closing the place down with Pete sitting there patiently waiting on her. You didn’t see any of the other aviators as you looked around.
“Have fun?” Penny asked eyeing you curiously seeing as who you came back to the bar with.
You nodded walking to her, Jake in tow, “I did.”
“Me too.” Jake chimed in placing his hand at the small of your back. You could not stop the shiver that ripped down your body from the feeling. You could have sworn you heard Jake laugh softly in response.
Penny smiled shaking her head, “That’s good. What’d you two do?”
You noticed Pete listening in but trying to make it seem like he wasn’t, “Just walked and talked.” You admitted without admitting a single thing.
Penny smiled eyeing Jake yet again, “Just, be careful.” She spoke to you.
“I am, don’t worry Aunt Pen.”
“It’s not you that I’m worried about.” She answered truthfully earning a chuckle from the tall blonde pilot.
“I can promise you Penny, there’s no way I could hurt this one right here. If anything, she’ll go breaking my heart.”
You rolled your eyes trying to play it off cool, but the blush had another idea. Penny grinned like a Cheshire cat seeing your reaction to his over-the-top statement. Penny handed the two of you another round of beers, on her, before quickly turning her attention back to cleaning and Pete.
Gaining some confidence as he led you away from earshot you finally said what you wanted to, “So Jake, about that date?

Roses and Thorns - Part I
(Previously called “Pool Table”)
It had been a long day of training for the pilots at Top Gun. Jake "Hangman" Seresin had given them a run for their money after becoming an instructor. He would be lying if he said that he didn't enjoy making the pilots suffer.
He was now enjoying an ice cold tap beer with his fellow instructor and friend, Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw. The two of them shared notes over the pilots they were training. Bradley kept annoyingly texting on his phone the entire time, smiling every now and then.
Finally, he had gotten a phone call that he seemed to be anxious about getting and he ran out of the Hard Deck. Jake rolled his eyes at his friend, finally relieved to be free from his suffocating phone use.
Jake looked around the Hard Deck, listening to the sounds of classic rock playing on the jukebox mixed with the hum of different voices having different conversations.
Jake felt a tug on his sleeve and looked down at a little girl. Large doey eyes and h/c hair put up in two curly pigtails with pink bows wrapped around them. She had on a little sweater with strawberries on it. "Daddy?"
The question caught him off guard, nearly spitting out his drink. He felt his heart drop to his stomach and panic began to settle in. "I- um-"
Laughter came from a few feet away. He looked over in the direction of it and saw that Bradley was doubled over in laughter with his hand on a woman’s shoulder, who was also laughing. The two made their way over to the table and sat down. The small girl ran back to the woman and jumped in her lap, giggling like a maniac. I assumed now that this woman was her mother.
“Oh man your face was priceless.” Bradley said while wiping a tear from his eyes.
Jake grumbled, rolling his eyes and bringing his beer to his lips. His attention turned to the woman with the same colored hair as the little girl. He watched the way her face moved when she laughed, the lingering smile on her face made his heart skip a beat.
“Jake, this is my long time friend from high school, y/n.” Bradley introduced them. Y/n reached her hand over the table to shake, a kind smile on her face. “It’s nice to meet you.” She charmed.
Jake grabbed her hand and shook it. Her hands were soft and delicate but she had a strong grip.
“Jake Seresin.” He returned the introduction to her. He then pointed to the little girl in her lap. “Who’s the troublemaker?” He asked.
Y/n smiled and grabbed the little girls hands in her own. “This is my daughter, Rose.”
“Momma I want French fries!” Rose exclaimed excitedly upon seeing someone walk out of the nearby kitchen door with a basket of them.
Jake smiled at the way the small girls face lit up. He’d never admit it to anyone, but Jake loved kids. He had always imagined himself having as many boys as possibly. Someone he could roughhouse with and throw a football on the beach. Maybe they would even take after him and join the military. The thought of having girls scared him. Maybe it was because he didn’t know how to take care of one, or maybe because he wouldn’t know what to do if she brought a boy home. Boys would be easier, more low maintenance.
“I’ll get you some French fries baby.” Y/n said nonchalantly as she pet the little girls head.
Rose pounded her little fists on the table, making the liquid in our drinks vibrate slightly. “French fries! French fries! French fries!” She chanted like a battle cry. Jake chuckled and shook his head.
“Alright I’m going!” Y/n gave in, throwing her hands up in surrender. “Here, go to uncle Brad.” Y/n handed the child over to Bradley. She now sat in his lap and giggled menacingly.
“You are very right she’s a troublemaker.” Bradley commented and took a drink from his cup.
“So you and y/n were friends in high school?” Jake asked, attempting to learn more about this woman he never heard of before.
Bradley nodded. “Since freshman year. We had PE together. Beat the shit out of me with dodgeballs every day for four years. We’ve stayed close ever since.” Bradley reminisced on the memory of the past. I looked over at her as she leaned against the bar, talking with Penny. She was unbelievably sexy. Just her posture and the way she carried herself and talked in the conversation from afar. Who wouldn’t be attracted to that?
“Is it safe to assume that’s not your kid?” Jake asked, wanting to poke some fun at Bradley. Bradley laughed, shaking his head. “Oh no. I don’t know where Rosie’s father is at. Y/n doesn’t really talk about it.”
For some reason, knowing she was single heightened the attraction that he felt. He hated to say it, because it made him sound kind of misogynistic, but Jake loved seeing women with kids as much as he loved kids. There was nothing he loved more than watching someone play pretend and cater to someone’s needs. Jake watched her walk back over to the table with a cocktail in one hand and a basket of French fries in the other. Y/n slid them down onto the table and plopped down into her chair. “Boom! French fries.”
Rose used her little fingers to make a grabbing motion towards the basket of fries that Bradley grabbed and slid them closer to the little girl.
“So, Bradshaw tells me you’re a pilot as well.” Y/n began to strike up conversation with Jake, taking a French fry from the basket and popping it into her mouth. She looked at him with an innocent interest.
The three and a half people made pleasant conversation as the night went on. Rose had only eaten about 5 of the French fries that she had demanded she receive so the three adults finished them off. It was 9:30 now and Rose was passed out in y/n’s arms, her head resting on her chest with her mouth wide open.
“I better get going so I can put her to bed.” Y/n said as she slowly stood up from her chair. She struggled to reach down on the ground to grab one of her bags. Jake jumped up to grab it off the ground for her.
“I can get it.” He insisted. Y/n looked at him with a warm smile spreading across her face. “Thank you.”
Jake looked back at Bradley as y/n made her way to the door. Bradley winked and raised his glass to Jake. He had turned around and quickened his pace to catch up. He jogged to the car to get there first and he opened the door for y/n while she strapped Rose into her car seat.
Once she was in the seat she walked around to the driver side door and took her bag from Jakes hands. “Thank you for the help, I appreciate it.”
“No problem, any time.” Jake smiled, sticking his hands into his pockets. Y/n nodded to him, saying her goodbyes before driving off.
Tumblr media
It was rounding 6 o’clock when Jake decided to take a run on the beach. He had run a couple miles when he came up on the beach that butted up with the back of the Hard Deck. He noticed an umbrella with two silhouettes sitting underneath it. The closer he got the clearer the two became. It was y/n and Rose.
He approached the two, stopping in front of them. Y/n looked up, blocking the sun from her eyes, even though she was wearing sunglasses, and then smiled. “Hey Jake.”
“Hi.” He smiled. Jake facepalmed himself. That was all he was able to choke out? Hi? How mortifying.
“What are you doing out here?” She asked. To the right of y/n, Rose was digging sand up from the beach and putting it into a bucket.
“Just out for a run.” He shrugged plainly.
“I see.” If she hadn’t been wearing sunglasses, Jake would have sworn that she looked him up and down, suddenly making him feel bashful. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt that way.
Jake felt a tug on his right hand. He looked down at Rose who was trying to pull him in the direction of the little mound of sand towers that she was building. “Come on.” She encouraged.
“Rosie sweetheart, Jake is busy he can’t play right now.” Y/n, took her daughters hand out of jakes. Of course, that was the one sentence a parent could say that could make even a child hating person feel guilty.
“He can’t play?” Rosie frowned, looking back and forth between the two adults.
“No no no, I can play.” Jake said quickly, afraid of upsetting the pouting girl. He sat down on the sand next to y/n under the umbrella.
“You don’t have to,” y/n reassured him, pulling her sunglasses up off her face and into her hair.
“I want to.” Jake smiled at her, holding eye contact for a little longer than normal.
Jake was drawn away from admiring the woman’s features as he was handed a small Pail and shovel. “Can you fill this with sand please?” Rose asked. How could anybody say no to those big blue eyes?
Eventually a small sand castle was built in front of where their set up was on the beach. Rose stepped back to admire her work. Her face then lit up with an idea. “I gotta get water for my Algators.”
Jake chuckled at her mispronunciation of the word alligator and watched as she took off running toward the water with her Pail in hand. “She’s adorable.” Jake hummed.
Y/n chuckled and nodded her hand. “She is the light in my life. Always keeps me on my toes.”
“I bet you guys always have your hands full.” Jake chuckled. He wanted to see if y/n would talk more about what Bradley said about her father being absent.
Y/n waved her hand dismissively and blew air through her mouth. “My hands are always full. Dead beat father didn’t want to stick around.”
Jake frowned. He already knew the answer to her question before he asked it, but hearing the venom dripping from her voice as she said it really stung his heart. “I’m so sorry.” He took the opportunity to place a hand on her shoulder. He felt her soft skin underneath his course hand and felt a fire ignite his chest. She looked over at him and gave him a gentle smile.
“Thank you. It really isn’t that big of a deal though, it was a long time ago.”
“What happened if you don’t mind me asking.” Jake asked.
Y/n sucked her teeth in thought before continuing on with her story. “We wanted different things. I wanted to have a baby and stay close to my mom, and he didn’t want a baby and to go to New York to peruse his acting career. So we compromised and I got full custody and he’s doing compression sock commercials.”
Jake couldn’t help but break out in laughter at the way she described it. It really did seem like a thing of the past to her. Or maybe, she covered up her pain with humor.
“How long ago was that?”
“Little over 5 years ago. it's just been me and her ever since."
Jake nodded in understanding of what she was saying. “Well, for what it’s worth you’ve done great.”
“It’s too heavy!” A small voice called from the distance. Jake looked off towards the ocean to see Rose struggling to carry the water filled bucket back to their spot on the beach.
“I’m coming!” Jake quickly got up from his spot on the sand and went up to rose. He took the bucket from her and grabbed her hand to help her walk back up the beach. Jake poured the water into the small hole she dug.
“There, a finished castle.”
Rose giggled and smiled. “I’ll be the princess and you be the knight.” She suggested. Jake chuckled and nodded to her.
“Yes your majesty.” He brought his hand up and saluted to her. Then Jake got an idea. He gave y/n a mischievous look that caused her face to turn up in confusion.
“If I’m a knight, that means I have to protect the princess from the evil queen.” Jake looked back over at y/n and gave her a wink. A wide smile spread on her face and she slowly shifted her weight around and crouched over on her feet.
“I’ll get you my pretty.” She twisted her voice to a creepy witch-like tone, causing Rose to giggle in anticipation.
“Go we have to go!” She encouraged Jake. Jake wrapped his arms around Rose and picked her up off the ground.
“I’ll save you princess!” He announced. Jake took off at a jog down the beach with y/n on his tail. Rose gripped onto jakes arms and let out many screaming giggles. The sound made Jake happy, the shrill of happy little kid screams made him want to do everything to keep this little girl happy.
He had looped around and made his way back around to the umbrella. He quickly set Rose down in the shade and then stood up to face y/n who was barreling towards him.
“I’ve got this, princess. Stop evil queen!” Jake commanded. Y/n showed no signs of stopping. In fact, she didn’t. She got right up to Jake and then ducked her shoulder down into his abdomen. Taken back by the sudden tackle and the strength at which she laid him out.
Jakes back hit the ground, y/n following shortly after and landing on top of him. In the tackle he had wrapped his arms around her to prevent her from rolling away. He felt the soft skin of her back against his hands as their skin was pressed together. He couldn’t help but feel the attraction simmering in his stomach as he looked up at her, a wide smile spread across her face as she laughed.
“Get off my knight!” Rose was near them now, pounding her little fists into y/n’s back in an attempt to get her mother off of Jake. Y/n rolled over and grabbed rose, wrapping her up tightly in her arms before plopping back down in the sand next to Jake.
“I’ve got her Jake! Tickle her!”
Jake laughed and reached his arms over and ticked her sides. Rose squealed and thrashed around, laughs erupting from within her. “Stop stop!” She said in between her laughs.
Jake brought his hands back and propped his head up on his hand. He looked over at the mother and daughter duo. Y/n had her arms wrapped around Rose, planting kisses on her cheek. Jake felt something warm in his heart. Admiration, affection, adoration, all the mushy feelings he had ever felt all at once. Rose changed his view on girls. He wanted to have 5 girls if they all turned out like this one. In turn, he wanted to know more about the spectacular woman in front of him. He knew he would do anything to protect them both.
“Forgive me if this is too forward-“ Jake began to talk before he was cut off by y/n.
“It’s too forward. I can’t forgive you now.” They both chuckled at her sarcastic response. Jakes face then fell to a more serious expression.
"Would you like to go on a date with me?" Y/n's expression durned up in surprise. It took her a minute to think about an answer which caused Jakes heart to begin to race. It was too forward. He hadn't even asked her if she had a boyfriend, or anybody she was seeing.
"Yes, actually." At her response, Jake felt his heart return to it's chest. Relief flooded over him.
"Hard Deck at 7 tomorrow?" He asked.
"I'll be there."
Tumblr media
“You met her two days ago and already asked her on a date?” Bradley exclaimed over the phone.
Jake smiled with the phone up to his ear. He was already at the Hard Deck when Bradley had called. Apparently y/n had asked Bradley to babysit for her while she went out with his friend.
“The heart wants what the heart wants Brad.”
“This is hardly your heart talking.” Bradley retorted sassily.
“I’ll have you know,” Jake jumped to his own defense. “I hung out with her and Rose on the beach yesterday-”
“And you fell in love with Rosie’s intoxicating giggle?” Bradley chuckled.
Jake felt the heat rise to his face. He didn’t want to admit it, but it was absolutely true. It was an addiction, something that Jake could listen to for the rest of his life. Which, is part of why he asked y/n out.
“Shut up, Bradshaw.” Jake growled, hanging up the phone before Bradley had a chance to clap back. As though it were scripted, Y/n walked through the door and glanced around. Jake stood up and walked to the door to meet her. Y/n saw him, smiling as they met halfway.
Y/n was wearing a deep blue dress that stopped in the middle of her shins. She had on a pair of white sandals and a golden chain around her ankle. Traveling back up to her face, spaghetti straps across her strong shoulders and a plunging v neck where a necklace with a pink pendant played across the top of her breasts. Leaving just enough to the imagination.
“Wow. You look beautiful.” Jake raved upon approaching her. Y/n smiled and held her arms out, embracing Jake. He reciprocated the hug, putting his hands gently on her lower back.
“Thank you! You don’t look so bad yourself.” Y/n took a moment to look Jake up and down. He was wearing a pair of jeans and a red shirt on top.
Jake directed them to the bar, opening the tab and buying them both drinks to start with. He then directed her attention a few tables away from the central bar.
“Now, since this is a bar I wasn’t able to reserve a table. But, I have reserved the pool table.” He spread his hands out wide in a presenting way as they approached the pool table. Y/n smiled and laughed.
“I think we can manage with that.” Y/n grabbed two sticks and then turned around, reaching one over to Jake. “Are you breaking or am I?” She asked.
For some odd reason, Jake had never been that attracted to someone.
“Ladies first, obviously.”
Y/n smirked slightly, placing the que ball down and bending over at the waist to line up her shot. The way that her necklace dangled in front of her now more exposed chest was next to impossible to ignore. His eyes wandered to there, hardly listening to the words that left her mouth.
“You know, I know exactly why you asked me on a date.” Her eyes wandered from looking up at Jake to at the pool table, drawing back her stick and breaking the stack. Unfortunately, no balls went into any pockets.
“Yeah? Why’s that?” Jake asked, looking around the table for the easiest shot to start.
“You like hot moms.”
Jake was mid shot when y/n said that, causing him to completely miss the ball in front of him. He looked up at y/n who was propped against the pool stick, laughing at his misfortune.
“Now that’s not true-“
“You don’t think I’m hot?” Y/n interrupted him with a pout.
“No, you’re very hot.” Jake huffed with a shy giggle.
Y/n smirked a little, walking around the table to observe potential shots. She found one right beside where Jake stood, bending at the waist and took a shot, sinking a striped ball into a socket. “And I’m a mom. Therefore, you like hot moms.”
For the first time a woman had left Jake speechless. He rubbed the back of his neck and feeling the intense heat rise to his face. Y/n seemed to notice when she looked up at him. She put a hand on his strong chest, gently pushing him backwards slightly so she could slip between him and the pool table.
“Relax Seresin, I’m pulling your leg.”
Jake had felt a tingling sensation running over his whole body. Like fire ants were crawling in his veins. He watched her take another shot at a pool ball and missed.
“So, do you want kids?” Y/n asked, taking a step back to allow him room to move.
Jake chuckled and looked around the table for his next shot. “Straight to the deep questions, huh?”
“Well I’ve got a kid who’s not going anywhere. Just want to make sure you’re not some secret child hater.”
Jake chuckled and shook his head. “Yes, I want kids.”
“How many?”
Jake huffed out. “As many as my partner would let me.” He admitted.
Y/n nodded in understanding. “Let me guess, boys?”
Jake missed his third shot before standing up straight to look over at y/n. He smiled at her and nodded. “Yeah.”
“I figured as much.” Y/n hummed with a chuckle. “It’s the typical male answer.”
Jake put his hands up in defense. “Forgive me if girls are intimidating.”
“So you think my little Rosie is intimidating?”
“Well no-“
“Don’t worry. The more time you spend around her the more girls you want.”
Jake smirked a little, watching y/n take her next shot. “Will I be spending more time around her?” He asked hopefully.
Y/n looked up at him from her spot bent over lining up her pool shot. A small smile curled up on her perfectly plump lips. “There’s a good chance.”
Jake smiled. His heart warmed the more he talked to y/n about just the smallest things. He couldn’t remember the last time he talked to someone for this long about mundane things. He enjoyed every second of it.
Much to his distaste, the night eventually had to come to a close. Jake walked y/n out to her car, the two of them laughing about a joke that was told earlier.
“Thank you for tonight Jake, I had a great time.” Y/n leaned against the back seat of her car while Jake stood by the drivers door.
“I had a great time too.” Jake hummed. He held out his hand and gestured with his eyes for y/n to take it. Y/n smiled, placing her hand on top of Jakes. He brought it up to his lips and gave her a kiss on the knuckles while simultaneously opening the driver side door for her.
“So when is our second date?” He asked. Y/n stepped up into position to get into her car. The only thing between her and Jake was the car door. She stopped for a moment, seeming to think. Y/n shifted her weight to her toes, stretching up and placing a kiss on Jakes lips. She lingered there for a couple seconds. Before going back down on her flat feet.
“I’ll call you.” She said sweetly. Y/n got into her car and closed the door, rolling down the window. Jake was so caught up in the intoxicating kiss that he forgot one critical detail.
“I never gave you my number.”
Y/n put a pair of sunglasses on her head and poked her head out of her driver window. She smiled wildly up at him. “I know.”
Just like that, she drove off. Leaving Jake smiling like an idiot in the parking lot.
