Danica McKellar (A Royal Date for Christmas, Swing Into Romance) and Oliver Rice (Firefly Lane, Magic In Mistletoe) have booked their next flick for Great American Family. The duo will star in A Royal Christmas Ball, with waltzes choreographed by Dancing With the Stars pro Gleb Savchenko.
Production begins this week on the movie that will premiere this November as part of Great American Christmas 2024.
In A Royal Christmas Ball, Chelsea Jones (McKellar) is a dance instructor and studio owner in Chicago who inspires kids to find themselves through dance. Just before Christmas, Chelsea discovers a photo she’s never seen before. Chelsea thinks the young woman is her birth mother who passed away when she was only five years old. The woman is in a wedding dress tugging on the hand of a man wearing a wedding ring, but that is all that can be seen of the man Chelsea believes may be her father.
The photo’s handwritten inscription reads, “Our place, Havenshire, December 23, 1984.” With only the internet, a plane ticket, and lifelong determination to go on, Chelsea now has four days in Havenshire to solve the mystery of her birth family. Along the way, she’ll have to sneak into a castle, teach a stubborn Prince how to dance, and be in just the right place on Christmas Eve when the bells toll.
“Royal movies are among our viewers’ favorites,” said Bill Abbott, President & CEO, Great American Media. “Finding love when and where you least expect it is the heart of royal fan fiction and Danica and Oliver do a brilliant job of making heartfelt wishes come true.”
“Oliver Rice exudes a dashing Cary Elwes-vibe,” added McKellar. “Oliver grew up in London and graduated from Oxford School of Drama and brings genuine nobility to the role of Prince Phillip. I cannot wait for fans to see him in the film.”
A Royal Christmas Ball is executive produced by Brad Krevoy, Amy Krell, Vince Balzano, McKellar, Jimmy Townsend, Susie Belzberg Krevoy, and Don McBrearty. Producer is David Anselmo. Supervising producers are Kelly Martin, Michael Shepard, Michael Beard, and James Mou.

I cried. I admit it.
The tribute to Len was beautiful. Seeing all those pros again brought back old memories and listening to how much they loved and admired Len was just emotional. Val and Jenna choreographed a beautiful Viennese waltz to "Moon River" that was simple but fantastic. Len really would've loved it. When it ended with them all standing on the floor, facing the judges' table with Len's old seat glowing with a white light, I pretty much lost it. I'm honestly tearing up writing about it. You could see their grief as the camera panned over them before it cut to Bruno absolutely breaking down as Carrie Ann hugged him. It was raw and it was powerful and it was real. There was no better tribute to the man who was the heart of this show.
Naturally, the rest of Most Memorable Year Night was just as emotional. Our remaining stars paid tributes to important years in their lives - years ranging from 1968 to 2023 - and danced to routines inspired by that year. Almost half the stars danced contemporary routines, which always promise to be emotional.
So who had a memorable night and who had one they would rather forget? Let's check it out!
Mira and Gleb: I was surprised by this elimination. I figured it would be either Harry or Alyson but it seemed that the audience decided to send Mira home. But she can be proud to have danced this routine before leaving. She chose 2004 as her most memorable year, which was when her daughter was born. Her daughter studies dance and joined Mira and Gleb for a contemporary routine that also honored Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion, though it could not be mentioned due to the writer's strike. It was light, fun and beautiful. And Mira looked absolutely beautiful next to her daughter. Overall, a great routine.
Charity and Artem: Charity chose 2022 as her most memorable year because she found the strength to leave a toxic relationship and then went on the Bachelor, which led to her being on the Bachelorette and finding her fiancé. She and Artem danced a contemporary routine to "Lose You to Love Me" and it was mesmerizing. Charity finally had an emotional connection to the dance and like I suspected, it elevated her dancing to help her earn the first 10 of the season from Carrie Ann.
Xochitl and Val: Xochitl chose 2021 as her most memorable year as it was when she was cast in her first big movie, though it came at the cost of her quinceanera. So she got a chance to have a taste of her quinceanera with a Viennese waltz to "Until I Found You." And she continues to look absolutely gorgeous and to keep improving week after week. She also earned a 10 for her routine - this time from Derek.
Jason and Daniella: Jason's most memorable year was 1999, when he decided to move to California to pursue a music career. He and Daniella danced a quickstep to "On the Road Again" to memorialize that road trip that changed his life. Jason continues to easily be the best male star in this competition and proves why he continues to remain at the top of the leaderboard. I also have to give him kudos for being the star to dance after the emotional tribute to Len. That couldn't have been easy, especially given how lighthearted his routine was. But it was just what was needed in that moment.
Ariana and Pasha: Unsurprisingly, Ariana chose this year as her Most Memorable Year. She talked about learning that her boyfriend and best friend were having an affair behind her back and having that play out in public and on TV. But she also talked about how she found a new strength inside herself and has bounced back. She danced a Viennese waltz with Pasha that was again gorgeous and strong. I loved the ending shot of her glaring at the camera before walking with Pasha glaring as well, like he was protecting Ariana.
Barry and Peta: Barry chose 1968, the year right before The Brady Bunch premiered and his life changed. He talked about loving to ride his motorcycle and enjoying his life. He and Peta danced a paso doble and I was surprised. I consider it a difficult dance to master but he managed it well. He was strong and completed the routine with little flaws. Maybe this is his turning point - we'll see how he does next week.
Lele and Brandon: Lele chose 2020 as her most memorable year as that was the year she got honest about her own struggles with mental health. She said that she realized that if she was an influencer, she wanted to influence people to take care of their own mental health. Lele talked about the positive response but mentioned there was a backlash, including a comment about how no one would marry her with all her issues. But she then met the man who became her husband and he surprised her in rehearsals. Lele and Brandon danced a beautiful contemporary about her battle with mental health and how she found a way to win it, ending with her dancing with her husband. It was beautiful and really let Lele shine.
Mauricio and Emma: Mauricio's most memorable year was 1996 when he lost his job and with the support of his wife Kyle decided to go into real estate, a decision that changed their lives. He and Emma danced a contemporary that reflected the uncertainty and support he got during that time as he got a new career off the ground. It certainly was one of his best routines so far.
Alyson and Sasha: Alyson chose 2003 as her most memorable year as it was when she married her husband Alexis Denisof. She talked about how they met and became friends while working on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and then fell in love. It's really clear listening to her and Alexis that they really love each other and have a great relationship. She and Sasha danced a Viennese waltz, incorporating a yellow umbrella - a nod to How I Met Your Mother. It was beautiful but Alyson still is at the bottom of the pack. As much as I love her, I keep resigning myself to the fact that she is likely to be eliminated any week now.
Harry and Rylee: Harry chose 2020 for his most memorable year and he spoke about how fame affected him. He said he fell into a lifestyle that wasn't good for him but his friends helped remind him who he was and who he wanted to be. So he and Rylee danced a contemporary to honor how they supported him. And I felt it was a step back for him. He didn't seem very comfortable with the dance style and that Rylee did most of the work. When compared to Mauricio, who did a lot of dancing, Harry just seemed to move around and support Rylee rather than the other way around. Harry is likeable and very good looking but I don't think the voters can save him for much longer.

Dancing with the Stars Season 32 Week 5: A Tribute Fit for a Legend
So this is super late. I did not realize how much I did not want to write about 5 contemporaries that I did not find to be all that good or interesting. Only one was cool. The rest I either didn't care about at all or just weren't all that good. So what I'm gonna do is talk about the Len tribute, my favorite dance of the night and then talk about my general feelings about the rest of the night.
Len Tribute
Len's tribute was the best moment of the night for me. I kinda miss watching a straightforward ballroom routine. Over the last 5 years, we've gotten so far from that with all the themes and the desires to be different that the pros are creating a lot of unmemorable dances because they're losing the essence of the show and the dance. This waltz really captured the essence of the show and was such a beautiful tribute to someone that had such a major impact on this part of the dance community. I love rule breaking and updating dances as much as the next person, but only if there is a well thought out reason behind it and you're not just throwing things together. Anyway, I may have had my feelings about Len from time to time, but I cannot deny his impact and how much all of us will miss his presence. What a great way to honor him.
Favorite Dance
With all I said about traditional routines, I have to say that Barry and Peta's paso was my favorite dance of the night for the same reason that I really enjoyed the waltz for Len. It was a classic paso and we really got to see Barry at his best so far. He did extremely well and that dance left the biggest impact on me. The score was appropriate and I have to say that it might be my favorite dance of the season so far.
Thoughts on the Contemporaries
I didn't care for them at all. Charity's was weird and kinda detached from the music. Harry's was bad. Mauricio and Mira's were non events (and Mira's was kinda cringey). Lele's was cool but again, I just didn't even really care for it. I never want another night of 5 contemporaries. It's too much. Especially because we mostly have untrained pros putting these dances together and they always end up looking the same.
General Thoughts
No one deserved a 10. I think Charity and Jason deserved the highest scores with 27s. Xochitl should've gotten a 26 because they were some pitter patter moments throughout the dance. I thought Ariana had her best dance of the season. Alyson was fine. There could've been more in hold. Jason still needs to work on his hold. Also, I'm not shocked that Mira was eliminated. That was the most obvious elimination of the season to me. Yeah, that's really it.
I also do not like the fact that the show is keeping the judges' save around without actually committing to whether or not it is going to be something that they use. At this point, we know it is coming back up this season. Be honest and let us know that it will be returning during a double. Either do that or it looks like you're only keeping it around to save Charity, Ariana, Xochitl or Jason if they end up in the bottom with Harry or Alyson. And while it would be hard to lose one of those four over the other two, it happens. We don't get to pick and choose how we let this show be this show. Either force the judges to judge properly or don't bring this shit back next season, Conrad. And this is on him because he loves to play these games with trying to keep people over others in ways that he feels is slick (when it's not and I see right through him and have since the stuff he pulled back in season 12).

Actress Danica McKellar spoke about her new film “Swing Into Romance,” which premiered on Great American Family.
‘Swing Into Romance’ film
“This was probably the most fun I’ve ever had shooting a movie,” McKellar said. “It allowed me to do acting and dancing. I got my on-camera dancing start on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ nine years ago with Val Chmerkovskiy, who was my coach and my partner, and I just fell in love with dancing.”
“To get to finally do some ballroom dancing in a Great American Family movie was a dream come true for me,” she added.

McKellar praised both of her acting partners in this film, Gleb Savchenko (“Dancing with the Stars”) and David Haydn-Jones for being “fantastic.”
“It was a delight to watch Gleb grow so quickly as an actor, he made it look easy, and that’s how you know that someone is doing a really good job,” she said.
“David is not a dancer, so this was a challenge for him and he really embraced it,” she said. “David put in the time and I couldn’t have been prouder of him. David really did a great job.”
‘A Very 90s Christmas’ virtual event
McKellar will be a part of “A Very 90s Christmas” Zoom event. It will feature 90s actors coming together this fall to kick off Christmas University, an event by Christmas Is Not Cancelled that is set to fundraise 25,000 toys for vulnerable children. This event will take place via Zoom on Saturday, October 21.
“I am excited about this event,” McKellar said. “I am in awe of what Jen Lilley does, and how she helps all of these children.”
2023 ChristmasCon in New Jersey
McKellar is also looking forward to ChristmasCon, which will take place on December 8, 9, and 10, 2023, at the New Jersey Expo Center in Edison, New Jersey.
“It’s a great time to meet all the fans, celebrate Christmas, and embrace a reunion with my friends too,” she said.
