Introducing the girlfriends: the looks.
Hello puppets! In this post I’d like to show how I imagine the OC Girlfriends in terms of face and looks, mostly in terms of fashion.
I won’t state how many times my self esteem abandoned the conversation as I made this post, so let me do a disclaimer before I make y’all suffer with me (sorry). These pictures come from my Pinterest board called “Simply incredible people”, which contains mostly photos of people that have very unique facial traits and that I use for reference. Now, ALL OF THESE ARE MODELS. They were photographed BECAUSE after hours of makeup and hair and clothes chosen perfectly for them, a set made up specifically to enhance their good looks, a fair bit of photoshop and unfairly good genetics they were put in the position of being beautified. Don’t think that these gorgeous folks are The Thing: I picked them because of specific reasons explained under each picture, and in my opinion all the guys are pretty far from dating perfect young women with perfectly symmetrical features and flawless complexion and... all of that. However, yes, in my mind they date regular, “unbeautified” versions of these women. If your self esteem can’t handle disgustingly beautiful models, then please, don’t open the “read more”. Also, you’re absolutely free to keep imagining your ideal girls and not check out this post, no hard feelings ✌️😘
However, if — like me — you are incredibly attracted to girls with pretty unique facial features, then do open. If you’ like girls, I’m sorry, you might have one (or more) new crush(es) after this post.
Now, all of the girls have Asian traits — because according to my plots and headcanons, (which you can find in my masterlist) the guys have always met their s/o while in Seoul/Korea and also because I’ve always imagined the girls Asian. However, I’m not saying that they like these specific types or looks, or that they’ll end up with a person with traditionally Asian traits: I am simply assuming in statistic terms. Also, since I write memberxFem!reader, they’re obviously all girls.
I only know two of the people inserted here (that is Vixen and Kitten). I might have accidentally inserted someone famous, however that was not my intention. Also, the girls have been chosen exclusively for facial features: there is no shipping going on between real people here.
After this lengthy introduction, let me move on to the real deal.
In case you need my masterlist, here it is! (Remember to vote for next prompt!!! Link in bio 🥰)
Enjoy✨💜
Vixen - (Namjoon)
Tumblr media
— The face —
Baby face: yes
Doll lips: yes
Very intense, borderline scary, November-baby glance: yes.
This is Vixen, with her baby cheeks, her sharp, refined looks and a doll-like face that mixes innocence and seduction. Top that with deep red lipstick and artsy jewellery. Her eyes show ten thousand different feelings and her face is suitable for acting, being extremely expressive: every little sensation and emotion can be found in a quirk of the mouth or an arching of the eyebrow, a little curl of the nose or a pursing of her lips.
— The Look —
Total black winter look, basic and classy, thigh-high boots for her long legs, simple, plain bags and purses, and finally a long coat to keep her warm over her dresses usually characterised by a high neck and a generous slice of leg. But don’t let that fool you: her favourite looks are oversized sweaters stolen from Namjoon’s wardrobe — that obviously fit like dresses on her —, fluffy woolen tights or stockings and comfy shoes when they go on breakfast dates, but also thick jumpers, large jeans and comfy sneakers when they go for walks and bike trips.
Angel (Seokjin)
Tumblr media
— The Face —
Traditional Korean Beauty: yes
Big eyes: yes
Soft pink lips: yes
Angel is the definition of Korean Beauty, looking young and innocent. She could easily have the face of an idol, with the purest of charms. And her cute bangs... yes.
— The Look —
Even though her job requires a total black look, which often means pretty flats, black trousers and a turtleneck, in her free time she likes wearing preppy looks, with lots of plaid prints and cute dresses that match Korean standards, with not-too-revealing necklines and a skirt that hits just above the knee. Match it all with cute, warm coats and small bags.
Kitten (Yoongi)
Tumblr media
— The Face —
Intimidating look: yes
Angular jaw: yes
Plush lips: yes
Kitten has angular, almost aggressive facial features, characterised mostly by the rectangular shape of her face and her jaw, and quite jutting cheekbones. She has a rough, tough beauty which can be difficult to understand but absolutely charming to observe.
— The Look —
Another one with total black, but unlike Vixen, who likes coloured clothes once winter ends, Kitten keeps the black look all year round, inserting tiny splashes of colours with accessories and jackets. Expect a lot of turtlenecks and blazers for her work attire, but also fancy shirts for more elegant occasions, mostly silk blouses that offer a generous view of her bosom.
Giggles (Hoseok)
Tumblr media
— The Face —
Strawberry blonde: yes
Freckles: yes
Too cute: yes
I’ve always imagined Giggles with a mop of messy reddish-blonde hair, may it be natural or dyed. I know the combo is pretty rare; still, she’s a fictional character so... a girl can dream.
— The Look —
A vintage mess of prints. She messes around with flowers and stripes and plaids and colours. You could most definitely spot her in a crowd. Even when she’s working (remember she’s a vet), she has very colourful scrubs and bright coloured clogs/nurse shoes. Overall too cute and tiny for her good, her being so small makes it easy for her to shop in the children department and find even more coloured, fancy prints.
Princess (Jimin)
Tumblr media
— The Face —
Overall cute: yes
Gaze to command a photo shoot: yes
Borderline scary both in terms of beauty and power: yes
This small girl has the power to supervise everything, you can read it on her face (remember she works for a fashion magazine and organises photoshoots). Sheer calculating, organising force. And with a gaze like that, ready to make you wither and die were you to deny her, you see specifically why I chose her.
— The Look —
Smart attire, comfortable flats or slippers to dash from a place to another. Comfy, fashionable, practical. She’s always on a rush from an appointment to the other and she uses bags big enough to hold a skirt and a pair of heels in case she needs more elegant attire for a last-minute evening appointment in fashionable clubs and restaurants. She’s more than happy to play Barbie for Jimin, letting him choose how to dress her.
Lace (Taehyung)
Tumblr media
— The Face —
Louder big dick energy than your ex: yes
A neck to die for: yes
Eclectic charm: yes
Honestly, I think Lace is too particular — strange even — to find someone who could possibly embody her. What made me pick this specific woman was her very incisive choice in clothing and accessories, but I’ll update her sooner or later, I think. As me and my friend said: you don’t find Lace, is Lace that finds you. (Also, if anyone has a Lace to suggest, please send links 💖)
— The Look —
Black tight dresses, all the time. Tight pencil skirts and anything that screams Fifties housewife; lots of robes, unusual cuts and premium fabrics — she is a designer and lingerie maker, after all. She doesn’t follow trends, she makes them. She is literally one of those people who looks good even with the most hideous, unfashionable things on. However, the moment she wears a silk slip dress, her power intensifies by a few thousand times — do not expect Taehyung not to get weak in the knees. In the house she’s absolutely comfortable wearing a robe with nothing underneath — and sometimes she doesn’t even tie it close. Taehyung is perfectly okay with that.
Candy (Jungkook)
Tumblr media
— The Face —
Biggest smile: yes
Cutest lil nose: yes
Very squishable: yes
The small happy bean is a very gentle bean too. She is a graphic designer and a cartoon artist and it shows in her whole being, even in her facial features. I imagine her hair not too long, soft and wavy — though the most valuable asset to Jk is their scent. And look at those sweater(shirt) paws!!! Adorable.
— The Look —
First rule of Candy and Jk’s relationship is “my flannel shall be thy flannel”. Their wedding rings will probably be flannel shirts. Candy likes to pull them off with oversized sweats or coloured jeans. She also wears oversized sweaters — probably stolen from Jk’s wardrobe — together with leggins and mid-calf socks, especially since her workplace is not too strict with dresscode. She likes oversized and layered fits, using light cotton shirts and tank tops in the summer and fleece/flannel shirt and warm woolen turtlenecks in winter. Comfort always comes first. Expect her to use biker shorts and giant T-shirts and bulky shoes in the summer on her spare time.
An extra — since I’m sooooo gay for these two
Tumblr media
Sora Choi and Yoon Young Bae are the two models that I immediately spotted respectively for Kitten and Vixen and the fact that they posed together made me super soft (I literally fell in love with both of them). Oh also!!! Yoon has posted on her insta the sweetest picture of her with a snow bear and it was like... a sign, but also so endearing and I’M SMITTEN, HEAD TO TOE IN LOVE WITH THIS SMALL CUTE LIL POTATO. She’s a cutie and Sora has the prettiest smile I swear to God I’d give the world for these two. *bisexuality upgrades*
Did you imagine them differently? Are there any of the girls that match or challenge your ideas? Leave your impressions in the comments!!! 😚☺️

forever isn’t for everyone (is forever for you?) part 5
London is gray and dull after Australia and the festivals we'd been at. And like it's welcoming us all back, it's raining.
Foggy, a complete 180. It doesn't help that it's night, and I haven't seen day since two days ago, having spent another day traveling. Cramped up in my seat, squished between other passengers.
This time I had slept fine on board, exhausted from touring. We're all dead on our feet and unlike the last few days, we don't puke into a cab, we just sort of wave and leave and it's sad. I think after all we've done, all the time spent together, we leave like it's nothing. I know even I need some alone time.
But it's still sad to me.
The second leg of the tour isn't for months and I have a week off before having to go into work. A week I spend sleeping and doing laundry and becoming a couch potato.
Another week of catching up with friends and getting lunch before I have to go back to work. It's the day before I go back to work that Alex texts me, my heart lurching, an unconscious desire that had sunk into my mind.
In Australia, it had seemed easy to believe that a man like Alex might like an ordinary girl like me. Perhaps I was selling myself short, but my confidence was a fickle thing that still needed propping up after my acne ridden teenage years.
More eloquent than in person, his preference for written word is obvious.
I was hoping we might have a listen to the record I told you about. A drink or two, a small offering in comparison to the pleasure of your company once more, in the city we both inhabit, where everything will seem solid and less ephemeral than abroad. -Alexander
It was long and flowery for a text and made me dizzy with anticipation, I threw out everything I'd been told to do when a boy texts you and replied instantly, walking home from tescos trying to make food instead of getting takeout for a change, eagerly asking for a time and address.
It was nice to be able to come home and do nothing. A privilege I couldn't imagine coming back from while my roommates came home from their jobs dead on their feet.
Grueling weeks on the road seemed a small price to pay.
I take the tube over to his, a beautiful georgian house among many in Chelsea, save for some dying plants outside, a clear victim of his recent travels, thick dark curtains obscuring all the windows. The street is littered with nice cars, millionaires the only people who can afford the nice neighborhood. London's market on the uptick.
At least I feel at ease in the dying light, the sun spilling in the sky like egg yolk as it sets, turning the clouds blood red, casting long dark shadows. I guess Alex is not a struggling musician, or maybe he's just from a well off family.
It's then I know that I start to feel anxious, no longer buoyed by our shared work, just me and him and would that be enough? It was stupid when I already knew how easy it was to be with him.
But this felt more concrete then wondering around a foreign city had. The thought of kissing him no longer a far off wish but a possibility so close it had my fingertips tingling.
Alex opens the door with a boyish smile on his lips, clad in loose blue jeans, frayed at the hem, and a grey t shirt emblazoned with give a damn, hair hopelessly disheveled as if he'd just woken up. "El, love" he says fondly, after a second, "I'm delighted you're here."
Waving me inside. I'm expecting the inside to look like a Tatler photo shoot, more burberry than marks and spenser sales rack, with the uninviting feeling carefully decorated homes had.
Instead, the rugs are rich, intricate designs, the edges frayed with time and use. There's a thin layer of dust in the paintings hanging on the wall, one signed manet, another of a slender woman with doe like eyes and hair the colour of milk tea, in vivid realism, only the clothes betraying the age, paint cracked with time by the frame.
Following along, I spy the stacks of books piled high on every table, some new others yellowed with age.
There's a silver tray on the coffee table littered with pens and paper and a beautiful piano in the room he leads me too, room lit by stained glass lamps in the shape of flowers, the shades tightly drawn with a beautiful japanese inspired screen for good measure.
A guitar rests in one settee. It's closer to an antique shop than any catalogue. "Please," Alex says, "sit, make yourself comfortable," as he goes to place the needle on a record, a small library of records covering a bookshelf nearby.
As an after though he adds, "don't mind the mess."
"It's fine," I smile, watching him, at ease in his home, wanting to run my fingers through his hair and find out if his hair was as soft as it looked, "it's kind of the vintage shop of my dreams. I don't know where to look because everything is catching my eye."
As I'd hoped, he laughs. "That's certainly a way of looking at it innit?"
The first notes of the record filling the room. Alex takes a seat next to me on the plush sofa. I kick off my shoes, surprised at how quickly I take a liking to the jazz music, curling up on the couch, dim lighting adding to the cozy atmosphere, before I catch him looking at me with the same fondness from earlier. With an easy smile on his lips.
For a moment, we just gaze at each other with a certain schoolyard shyness that settles when neither of us looks away.
His expressive eyes on mine.
A gaze so intense I can't hold it for long before I have too look away. "It's funny," I note, "the music has me picturing the concert clearly. Like I'd been there. Fuck that must have been a night."
"It was." Alex nods, his gaze still heavy on me. "They all lived for their music, bodies a vessel for playing the notes swirling around their souls."It was a beautiful thought, and I wasn't sure how to reply to the sheer earnestness.
"You said there was wine," I ask all faux innocence, wanting something to take the edge off.
Hyper aware of every movement I make. I want to sink back into the ease we'd had in Auckland and not this. The thought of him wanting me as much as I wanted him was driving me crazy.
"Oh so that's why you came," he grins so alight with amusement, eyes twinkling.
"The musics good too."
"And the company?"I shrug, teasing, "I've had worse."
"Oi!"
I snort.
He doesn't move to go for wine. "I'm starting to feel superfluous El," Alex say in his thick yorkshire accent, a drawl to his words, each one carefully considered as he takes his time to form a reply, uncaring about the time he takes. "It's not a very nice feeling."
I roll my eyes. "Don't tell me you need as much ego stroking as Miles?"
"Miles does all the ego stroking for himself."
"That doesn't surprise me," I laugh, "I think you need a lot of ego to get up on stage every night. I don't have stage fright but it's all very weird to have that many people looking up at you."
He nods in agreement, "it's a good thing that's not part of my job. All I wanted to do was 'ave people listen to my little songs."
"Well I'd say job well done."
The album had debuted top of the UK charts. And he'd written the lions share with Miles. Alex ducks his head, red rising to his cheekbones, a stark contrast against his pale skin.
Even a few weeks down under had done nothing to rid him of the lack of colour that came with living in such a gloomy city.
"You've got the whole country singing along."
"Well. . .Miles and the boys do. I just helped Miles a little or well we just jammed together. Can't help myself around that man. . .rarely has anyone understood me so well."
"Have you always written songs?" None of my childhood hobbies had stayed with me, consumed with studying.
"Can't help myself," he admits. "A tune or some words. . .coming to me mind. There till I write them down."
"That's loads more creative than me. I always think it would be fun to draw but I'm imagining some renaissance masterpiece and it always comes out a derpy stick figure or worse. So I just give up and read or go for a walk." Even in the winter, Greenwich park was beautiful, and bundled up it was bareable.
"What do you like to read," Alex asks, tilting his head towards me, curiousity brimming in his soft eyes. The space between us closing in as we lean towards each other, disarmed by our conversation.
His hand resting on his knee, pulled out on the sofa, making me feel shameless about having my legs pulled up as well.
"Articles. Very depressing boring world news. Free essays on the paris review. It's a shame prints dead or else I'd try to justify buying copies. But I think I'd rather have a cuppa tea. With those fruit bits or boba."
"Is print dead?"
Alex says it with a layer of incredulity, baffled.
"Yeah. This thing called the internet came along."
"Bloody hell," he jokes, "I'm still waiting for the windows explorer to. . .do it's thing."
"You mean load? Not surprised. The selfies you tried to take in Sydney were awful. Thankfully those people were there to take our picture."
"Be easy with me El," Alex laughs, shaking his head at me, eyes crinkling in amusement.
"I'll have to think about it," I tease, leaning against the softness of the sofa, resting my head as I take the sight of him in, warmth spreading in my chest, thrilled to know that I can make him laugh, that he'd meant it when he said he wanted me over.
It's a funny little skip of my heart as hope takes root, the idea that he might like me as much as I like him, making me smile, happy for the first time since I got back. Really happy, not just content to be home, to lazy around and get time to myself.
He pours us both a cuppa wine in ceramic cups, "no wine snobs here," he grins and the music plays and his knee taps to the beat against my leg.
Every touch too much and yet not enough, desire welling up in the pit of my stomach. It's easy to drink, pour another glass out."
I don't think anyone has the time or concentration to listen to a fourty minute song anymore," I note, sipping lazyily at the wine, my palette too unrefined to know if it's cheap or expensive.
"It's a jam session!"
I drink, trying to hide my smile at his expression, affronted on behalf of music everywhere, the seriousness to his mouth, frowning, a directness to his gaze.
Failing, I giggle, slumping against the sofa, looking up at Alex through my lashes. "I thought it was just a very long song."
"El." His voice, that thick accent, his unique drawl, my face burning, as he leans over, empty bottle of wine forgotten on the coffee table. His hand cups my cheek, the tips of his fingers calloused in a delightful way, toes curling on the sofa cushion, thumb running over my bottom lip.
Heart beat lodged in my throat, I can't speak, the desire bubbling over, wanting to spill over and kiss him already. Alex pressing lightly over my body, trapping me against the sofa.
I swallow thickly, my fingers going to neck, threading my hands through his caramel hair, soft and silken, and pull him down to kiss me hard.
I can feel his satisfied smile against my skin as he kisses me back passionately, without any hesitation, all of his fumbling for words gone. All confidence and want.
Alex's other hand going down to my hip, rubbing cicrcles over my cotton shirt. My head spins with want and desire and Alex all tangled together, finally, kissing him eagerly as he shifts, shoving a cushion thoughtlessly off the sofa. I lay down, skin burning hot. Too many layers between us.
His lips against mine. Tasting of wine and bitter chocolate, a tanginess I can't get enough of.
My mouth opening up to his, tongue exploring my mouth, my hands running through his hair. Alex pressed against me as I lay with my back on the couch, solid and too many layers between us.
He pulls back, pulling up at the hem of my shirt with a naughty schoolboy grin, endearing all the same.
"I hate winter," I whisper against his cool skin, colder than the room, barely emanating any heat at all in the frigid english winter, "it makes getting undressed such a pain."
Alex laughs, pulling his own shirt over his head. "I'll be sure to make it worth your time."
"Cocky bastard," I utter as he hooks his fingers through the loops of my jeans, pulling me closer to him, the feeling of his own cock, already half hard, sends me reeling.
In leiu of a response, Alex trails kisses down my neck, sucking at the skin, sure to leave marks tomorrow.
My fingers dig into his hair, breathily moaning his name. Shamelessly, he undoes the button on my jeans.
It's never sexy to take off jeans, kicking them off rapidly, as I reach for him, kissing him again fiercely. The feel of his cool skin sending sending shivers down my spine. Lithe but toned.
Alex cups one of my breasts, nipple hardening through the delicate lace. "Fuck El," he groans, hips grinding down against mine.I want him. I want him so much, feeling feverish with desire.
All my thoughts of him.
Of Alex.
He slides his jeans off easily enough, cock hard through the fabric of his boxers. I look up at him, as I unclip my bralete, adding it to the pile of things on the coffee table.
There's always an initial nervousness, when sleeping with someone new. And yet, I know Alex wouldn't hurt me. I trust him.
"El-,"
"Come here," I reach for him, a whine to my voice, "come here and fuck me Alex."
He does.

why don’t you figure my heart out? - snowbarry
She'd stuck out against the landscape, or, more accurately, her hair had. It was still a pure white, a sharp juxtaposition to her entirely black outfit, one which clung to her frame. And before Cisco had even had a chance to open his mouth, she'd said the words she was repeating now:
“Why didn't you tell me?”
[3x23 reaction fic]
alternatively, read it on ao3 and leave a comment
...
“Why didn't you tell me?”
Caitlin’s words are calm, but Cisco has known her long enough to hear the brokenness behind the words; the hurt. And, despite the agreement the team had made in Barry’s absence, he feels terrible. She cared for him, too, whether she was a meta or not, whether she had betrayed them or not, she still had a right to know.
It had been four months since not-Nora-Allen had lead Barry into the Speed Force to pay his penance for creating Flashpoint.
For the most part, the team had managed to keep themselves together. Wally took up the main speedster role, Cisco and Gypsy helping as necessary, with Iris and Joe still lingering about the Lab and helping with whatever they could. They still fought and captured and locked away metas, but the air is never clear. It's constantly weighed with grief and a sadness Cisco can't bear some days, so he hides away, tinkering with gadgets he knows are useless.
Terry had gone back to her job at Central City University, teaching a class on quantum physics and mourning what could have been. Julian had all but quit showing up after the first few weeks, drowning in the excess of CSI work after Barry “quit”.
It's never the same. Cisco doesn't think it ever will be, not with the wound of losing Barry along with Caitlin reopening itself every time they step into the Lab. But they never talk about it, just letting it hang between them anytime they're all gathered in the same room. They can do all the same, normal, everyday things, but that doesn’t fill the absence of Barry’s giddy laugh or Caitlin’s affectionate pestering or the constant tap of H.R’s drumsticks.
On cynical days, he thinks that he's the only one of the original trio left. The only one completely himself and here on this earth. But then he'd seen the frost crawling across the high, rectangular windows of the cortex and he'd felt his heart skip a beat in hope. She was asking for him after so long, he knew it. So he'd hurried out into the dark of near-midnight.
 “Caitlin-”
“Cisco.” It's the first time he meets her eyes, pupils all Caitlin-brown and pouty. It almost feels like before, until frost begins to spread under her feet. He opens his mouth to ask if she'd had any luck getting that under control, if she could return to the team, but she beats him again.
“How long did you think you were going to be able to keep it a secret? Would you have ever told me he was gone?” The frost continues to spread under their feet, it creeps near his gold-toed Vibe boots, but Caitlin doesn’t seem to notice. “I- I left, Cisco, and that’s something I have to live with everyday. Just the same way I have to live with the fact that, because I left, I didn’t get to say goodbye. But, God, couldn’t you have told me? I- oh, God-”
Cisco doesn’t lurch forward in time to catch her before she collapses to her knees on the thin layer of ice she’s created beneath them. It looks like she’s in the center of a broken mirror. Her tears freeze halfway down her cheeks. He sinks down in front of her, gripping her shoulders and trying to catch her eye. He tries not to let his body movement show that he’s afraid she’s becoming Killer Frost again, that this could be what breaks her a second time. “Cait…Caitlin, hey, shh… it’s alright.” He moves to pull her closer, but it’s as though she’s frozen in place.
“I never said goodbye to him, Cisco. I never told him how sorry I am for everything. God, I caused him so much pain, she was so angry at him for not trying harder, she had so much hatred. So, so much hatred. And I never got to apologize for all of it. Wha- what if he didn’t realize, Cisco? Realize that I thought I had more time to make everything right, once I got her under control? I thought I had more time- God, it’s all so wrong.” Here she finally breaks into hysterics Cisco can’t understand and he pulls her into a hug, patting her hair down.
He’d had his doubts when the rest of the team had voted to leave Caitlin in the dark about the details, since they really no longer knew where her loyalties lied, they said, but he had let it happen. She’d always been level-headed, as Caitlin at least, if she found out she could come to grips logically.
This breakdown was as far from logical as Cisco had ever seen her.
Finally, still gripping Caitlin tightly, he places his chin on the top of her head and whispers to the frigid air. “What’s all wrong?”
“I can’t control her; Killer Frost. Everything I do, I hear her lurking in the back of my mind, fighting to regain dominance over my consciousness. I feel like my own mind is at war constantly. Even now, she’s telling me I need to pull away, that if you cared anything for me you would have told me he was gone.” Cisco grip on her tightens as she continues to whisper.
“And Barry- I- I think I fell in love with him, am in love with him, I don’t know. I- she followed him so easily, just his face, even scarred, compelled her loyalty. Then I watched him show Savitar mercy and I realized I loved him… here, too. But I needed time to get her under control so I left. I left but I thought he would be here when I got back, Cisco.” Her voice breaks. “I thought he would be here. But he’s not. And I don’t know how to save him, I’ve ran so many scenarios through my head, alternatives, none of them ever work. I’m so lost, I’m supposed to always there be for him and I can’t be. How do you deal with it? What was it like saying goodbye?”
Cisco’s eyes are watering now too, but he refuses to blink them away. They both just needed to expose themselves here, to let all of the pain and anger and grief out. Bottling things up never worked.
Maybe that was his problem—all of their problems—this whole time.
He breathes a deep sigh. “Terrible, Caitlin. He told me that it all rested on me now, that I was his hero. Not to mess it up with Gypsy.” She laughs at that; watery but there and he knows he's breaking the shield she's put up around herself.
 “Is he…?”
“The Speedforce said he wouldn't be in hell. He's okay, I think. If we can trust the Speedforce, but it took the form of his mother, I think it was a peace offering. He didn't look afraid when he left, not half as afraid as the rest of us, the lightning was tripping me out; he just looked like it was all… bittersweet. His personal finish line.”
Caitlin takes one long sniff and breathes a sigh against the base of his neck. It's cold air she exhales, but it doesn't scare Cisco as much as it used to. This woman isn't quite the same one he held as she cried over her deceased, then resurrected, fiancée, she's a little more broken, a little more scarred and a lot more powerful, but that's okay. She's on her way to becoming something greater than she ever was before. This much Cisco knows. She's a badass, she'll get through.
After, he leads her back into the Lab and she's reintroduced to the team, in a way. And eventually they do learn to trust her again, after they stop seeing her as the villain who aided in Iris’s demise (which Caitlin apologies profusely for until Iris says she'd hate her more if she didn't stop.)
The days after are slow and filled with frustration when, time after time, Caitlin’s eyes will blaze a bright, icy white when she uses her powers. Most of the time she can talk herself down, but when she can't, Cisco (or even Iris, now) is there to remind her of who she is. It takes time, so, so much, but eventually Caitlin accepts both parts of herself, the good and the evil, and she's in complete control for the first time in what feels like a forever all pressed into three months.
They all realize after her first mission that she may be the most powerful of them all. Cisco grins with pride every time she delivers a witty one-liner and hauls a criminal back to the pipeline. He gives her her name: The Frost. And before Caitlin can even object, Iris has it printed in the papers and posted on her blog. It catches on fast and before long Cisco is teasing her about how if Frost gets more popular than Vibe then he will not hesitate to take her down.
All of this together eventually mends the holes the team had—in efficiency and in their hearts—during those four, tragedy-heavy months before Caitlin arrived again. Barry is not forgotten, it would be impossible to forget him, but just being together and taking down criminals and really, truly laughing (mainly at pranks, which are the team’s new thing) helps to ease the pain.
And when Barry does return, as he always does, Cisco urges Caitlin to act on the feelings she told him about three months ago. The feelings she'd been hell-bent on avoiding talking about since that very day on her ice. And Cisco understands, in a way, that it's hard. They'd been friends for a long time before whatever Caitlin was feeling now had come into play (how long ago had they come into play, though? this was another one of the mysteries Cisco knew he had very little chance of ever solving.)
Four weeks after Barry’s return, just when things are finally falling into place again, Cisco confronts Caitlin in her office. He barters, like only an online vintage comic book collector could, mentioning what happened the last time she kept secrets. She argues that there was a stark difference between cold powers and romantic feelings, but Cisco can see he's wearing her down, slowly but surely. They have a back and forth until the sun has set outside the windows and Caitlin has subconsciously created a whirlwind of snow flurries around them. Then, on Cisco’s last words of “It's not like he can't vibrate to heat up if you kiss him, Caitlin!”, she storms out and down the hall.
Because he can't let doctors with cryokinesis just stomp away angry, he follows her, hoping to maybe apologize and prove his point some more.
She's coated the entire floor with a thick sheet of slippery ice, just out of spite he presumes, so it takes Cisco a maddening amount of time to catch up to the cortex entrance.
When he does, it's not a sight he expects.
Caitlin is gripping the gray fabric of Barry’s S.T.A.R Labs t-shirt, pulling him down just low enough so that they can press their lips together.
Cisco is not trying to be creepy by sticking around, really, but it's a nice sight to see his friends so happy after everything they've all been through. And he can tell that they're happy, by the way Caitlin’s lips quirk into the kiss and how Barry’s hand gently curls around her waist.
One second he's admiring his good work and the next he's sputtering as Caitlin, breaking away from Barry only momentarily, throws a snowball at him. Before more can be fired his way, he takes his cue and rushes back down the hall, but he giggles the entire way.
His matchmaking skills aren't so rusty, after all.

Hey! I am so sorry to bother you but I'd just like to ask you a question: how did you do that awesome picture?
Oh no it’s okay! I love questions! ^o^ I just used Paint Tool SAI as my art program and a Wacom Intuos drawing tablet. For references, I used Macoto Takahashi’s artwork and other vintage shoujo as inspiration (especially in the eyes) and Angelic Pretty’s Candy Treat print. Everything else I did in my head! As for actually drawing it out, I actually just sketch first and work from the sketch itself (it’s a bad habit, but every time I try to make clean lines, it loses its “traditional art-like” feel to me). I’m not sure how to explain the rest, but I usually lower the opacity in some layers (or mess around with brightness/contrast/hues/saturation) to give it a more soft, pastel look. I also used a background in a very long time which I got a polka dot wallpaper and just edited it to match the theme! Thank you so much for asking! ^-^

Comparing different Cyanotype techniques
Tumblr media
While trying to improve the quality of the cyanotype prints made on my home built enlarger I came across a whole number of different techniques for increasing the sensitivity and quality of cyanotype prints, but I’ve never done a comprehensive comparison.
So a few days ago I sat down and tested 6 different cyanotype formulas and techniques. All prints were made on A5 size printer paper and were exposed for 15 minutes. I chose a negative that has a wide dynamic range with deep shadows and some very bright highlights. All images were first washed in tap water and then in a weak solution of acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide.
I also tested toning with three of the techniques using a mix of tannic acid and black tea.
Most of the different formulations used here were taken from Mike Ware’s excellent Cyanomicon which can be found here: http://www.mikeware.co.uk/mikeware/downloads.html
Lets begin.
Classic (Yellow Layer) Cyanotype
Tumblr media
This print used the classic mixture of a 25% solution of ammonium ferric citrate and a 10% solution of potassium ferricyanide in equal parts.
As it’s clearly visible it’s not nearly sensitive enough for use with an enlarger. After 15 minutes of exposure only the clear parts of negative show some very slight darkening.
Mike Ware’s New Cyanotype
Tumblr media
Now, before you tell me that it’s not supposed to look like this, I know. I’m pretty sure I fucked this up.
This technique mainly sets itself apart from the classic cyanotype by using an iron oxalate salt instead of an iron citrate salt as light sensitive component. The preparation is a little more involved compared to the other formulas but overall not too hard. The exact recipe is outlined on the website of Mike Ware.
As you can see the sensitivity is definitely improved compared to the classic cyanotype. The image is clearly visible, albeit underexposed. My main problem was that the solution left a very persistent yellow stain on the paper that I was not able to remove even after vigorous washing. The stain does not look quite as bad in reality as opposed to the scan, but it’s still very unsightly.
I’m not quite sure what’s to blame here. Maybe the ammonium ferric oxalate I got was of low quality, maybe it’s a reaction with the paper. I hope I can repeat these experiments soon and find out what’s going on.
Blue Layer Cyanotype
Tumblr media
This print uses the “Blue Layer” cyanotype outlined in Make Ware’s Cyanomicon. It’s a formula that was mostly used for industrial blue print paper. The main difference compared to the classic formula is that it uses potassium ferrocyanide instead of potassium ferricyanide. That’s it.
As you can see it’s a lot more sensitive than both the classical and the new cyanotype. The contrast is noticeably lower than the one of the classic formula, but the dynamic range is greatly extended.
One drawback of this technique is that a small amount of prussian blue is already formed during the mixing of the solutions, leading to a blue staining of the paper surface during coating. As opposed to the dye that is generated during exposure this stain sits at the top of the paper and washes off easily. It is therefore important to use a relatively smooth paper.
What should also be noted is that this is not strictly a print out process like the classic cyanotype. During exposure only a faint positive image is created, the actual negative image does not become visible until the print is washed and oxidized, either in air or a weak solution of hydrogen peroxide.
Blue Layer Cyanotype 2+1
Tumblr media
This is the same process as above, but with twice the amount of the ammonium ferric citrate sensitizer used.
This has become my go-to solution for pretty much all my prints as it has great sensitivity and dynamic range. The contrast tends to be a little on the low side but this can be adjusted nicely by reducing the amount of light and exposing for longer.
Terry King’s Cyanotype Rex
Tumblr media
This apparently controversial technique works by only exposing the ammonium ferric citrate by itself and “developing” it in a bath of potassium ferricyanide solution. Instead of developing in a separate bath, which is very wasteful, I chose to simply brush the potassium ferricyanide onto the paper after exposure.
As you can see the sensitivity and tonal range is greatly improved compared to the classic process, but it’s still nowhere close to the sensitivity of the blue layer formula. Also the brushing of the potassium ferricyanide can leave visible brush marks, and the only way to avoid that is to use a developer bath which quickly gets contaminated with prussian blue and needs to be changed regularly, which is pretty wasteful and expensive.
Blue Layer Cyanotype Rex
Tumblr media
As an experiment I also tried to use the blue layer potassium ferrocyanide with the Cyanotype Rex process.
Overall the results seem very similar to the 2+1 blue layer print. The mid-tones seem a little darker in some places, and slightly more detailed.
Overall I think this is the best quality print, with the 2+1 blue layer print as a very close second. I’m not sure if the extra effort in making this is really worth it.
Now, let’s look at some toned images.
Toned New Cyanotype
Tumblr media
Yeahhh, I’m pretty sure I fucked this up. What was a light yellow stain in the un-toned image has just turned into a thick brown mess in the toned image, indicating that the stain was rich in iron and probably comes from the iron oxalate.
Again, I’m sure this is in no way a fault with Make Ware’s procedure, it’s just me messing something up. If somebody has an idea what this could be I’d love to hear it.
Toned Blue Layer Cyanotype
Tumblr media
This blue layer cyanotype print was toned using a mix of tannic acid and black tea for around 8 minutes without any prior bleaching.
Overall I’m really happy with the tonality, even though there is some staining of the paper, giving it a distinct “vintage” look. Again, my scanner really accentuated the staining, and it’s not nearly as noticeable in real life.
Toned 2+1 Blue Layer Cyanotype
Tumblr media
Same thing, but using twice the amount of ammonium ferric citrate in the print.
I’m really happy with this print. Having a little more density in the print leads to a very nice duotone effect during toning since the highlights are toned much faster that the shadows where there is more prussian blue present. Again, the staining of the paper looks much worse on the scan than it is in reality.
I’ve made a number of prints using this combination of techniques already, and I love the results.
Results
I love the blue layer cyanotype process, and I don’t know why it isn’t used or talked about more. It gives far superior results to much more complicated and costly solutions.
Now, I understand that the look is different from the very high contrast look of the classical cyanotype, but honestly, I don’t mind that at all. Both techniques have their uses and pros and cons, but I think the blue layer process is severely overlooked in modern cyanotyping.
P.s.: I know some of the prints are pretty out of focus. The prints themselves were done pretty hastily in just a few hours and I didn’t pay enough attention to that it seems. I was more focused on getting the chemicals right. From experience I can say the I was not able to notice any significant changes in sharpness between any of the methods. But maybe that’s a topic for the next comparison.

Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Rental Home
Hello, my wonderful friends! It’s really great to start this week with a new Beautiful Homes of Instagram and I know this one will inspire many readers.
Dani Ferretti of @GoldCoastCanvas is talented, brave and she is here to show us that we can make of our home a “home-sweet-home” wherever we are, regardless if it’s our forever home or a rental.
Please, make sure to follow her on Instagram (it will make her day!) and take notes on how she decorated her beautiful rental home!
Hey friends, Dani of @goldcoastcanvas here! I’m so humbled that Luciane reached out to me and it is truly an honor to be featured among such incredibly talented designers here on HomeBunch. I never would have imagined that our once plain-jane rental home would someday be worthy of this. I am feeling excited and grateful (and maybe a little bit like the new girl at the lunch table!).
My boyfriend Brad and I both grew up in South Florida and we are true barefoot, ocean-loving Florida kids at heart. We’ve both bounced around the country (and the globe) quite a bit since leaving home. We most recently moved to Austin, Texas where we’ll stay until it’s time to make the permanent move back home to Florida.
As you can imagine, being away from family and the ocean takes some adjusting to. This is why it was so important that our home in Austin, no matter how temporary, still have space for guests and still reflect that breezy lifestyle we love most. We chose a modern, new-construction home in South Austin not far from downtown. It was the perfect jumping off point for the activities we love most: hiking the greenbelt with our chocolate lab Soko, hitting up our favorite taco truck, or catching some waves at the surf park (yes, you can surf in the middle of Texas!)
I have always loved coastal decor, but it took me years to hone in on my true design aesthetic. Once I started focusing on how I wanted our home to feel rather than how I wanted it to look, everything clicked into place. For this house, I really wanted to create a home that felt like a sanctuary and that was easy to live in – where spaces felt organic and nothing was too precious. I think that is what makes coastal homes so appealing to me. They are meant for the happy messes of sandy feet and salty hair.

I took my time designing our master bedroom and it is my absolute favorite room in the house. I wanted to keep this room clean and simple, while still giving it enough layers to feel cozy. I stuck with two main colors – a blue/grey and cream – and brought things to life with lots of different textures. From the driftwood nightstands to the chunky cotton quilt to the faded rug, everything in this room is meant to feel a bit organic and weathered, yet still refined.

Backyard
Having usable outdoor space was really important to us. However, when we moved in, our backyard was just a plain patch of grass. Since we’re renting, we worked with our landlord to come up with an affordable solution. With my dad’s help, we built this raised gravel patio ourselves!

Stool / Side Table: Safavieh.
Home-Sweet-Home
The new raised gravel patio ended up being a hit in the neighborhood and inevitably, all of our gatherings end up out here. I’m so glad we went for it! It serves as a reminder that no matter where you’re living at the moment, it’s always worth a little investment to make it feel like home. You don’t have to wait for your dream house!
Many thanks to Dani for sharing all of the details above.

I wanted to do something unique with the alcove so we opted for some large, diy floating shelves and a gallery wall featuring some of our favorite pieces.

Down the hall is our guest bedroom. I reupholstered an existing bed to give it a clean linen look like the one in our own room. This room really challenged me to flex my creative muscles and I love the unexpected combination of old and new. The aged metals, rugged handmade nightstands and modern decor accents all come together to create a space that I hope any guest can appreciate.

Kitchen Gift Guide: Homemade Bread Recipes, Mason Jar Cookie Mixes and More
As we prepare for the holidays, I always take a day to make gifts from the kitchen to share with friends, teachers and co-workers. One of my favorites is a homemade bread recipe from my grandmother. In the last few years, I have also discovered the fun of making “recipe-in-a-jar” creations. These are creative gifts with endless possibilities.
Homemade Bread Recipe: Pumpkin Bread in a Coffee Can
My grandma was very actively involved in her church, and around the holidays, she liked to bring gifts for people in the congregation. She would save coffee cans for months ahead of time so she had a big supply ready for baking at Christmas. She lived in suburbia, but she felt the spirit of simple homesteading: putting everything to good use and finding new purposes for items that others might throw away.  My grandma Bettie passed on her homemade bread recipe to my mother and then to me as well, and I’d like to share my experience with baking it as a gift of the kitchen this year.

First I had to drink a lot of coffee—not a difficult task for me! I saved three coffee cans, removed the labels from the outside, and cleaned them out well.
I will add a step here, which I forgot to do initially. If your cans have a lip around the top, use a can opener to cut it out.
This is what it looks like with the lip removed.
Removing the rim will allow the bread to slide out of the can when it is cooked. I didn’t even think about the necessity of this until I went to remove a loaf for my family and it wouldn’t come out! These are the little details grandmas don’t write down in homemade bread recipes. If you forget this step, you can remove the lip after the bread is baked, like I did, but it is more challenging with the bread risen up out of the can.
Another important part of the bread coming out of the coffee cans is properly greasing and flouring them. This is something I dreaded as a child because I didn’t like the feel of the Crisco we used.
Start with a big glob of Crisco on your fingers and get in there!
Rub it all around, coating every surface of the inside of the can. When you finish greasing the cans, you will have what I always referred to as “Crisco hands.” Your best bet for getting it off is to rub your hands together like you were putting on lotion. Rub as much in as you can; then get a dry paper towel and wipe off any excess. Your hands will be baby soft! Whatever you do, don’t try to wash your hands with water. You’ll end up with a goopy mess and you’ll miss out on some serious moisturizing.
Then you have to “flour” the cans as well. I made a little video to explain the process I use for this homemade bread recipe in a can:
youtube
So, your cans are ready to go. Put them aside while you make your batter. It’s time to preheat the oven too. Set it to 350 degrees.  I used my stand mixer but you can use a mixing bowl and a spoon if that’s what you have available. Start with the first six ingredients you need for this homemade bread recipe: nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar, oil, eggs, and salt.
I used our tiny pullet eggs for my baking so I added an extra one since they are so small. As part of our self-sustaining living, we always have a bowl in the fridge for kitchen scraps. When it gets full, we grind it up in the food processor and give it to the chickens. I added my egg shells to this bowl; they provide good calcium for the girls. As long as they are ground up well, they don’t realize they are eating egg shell so (knock-on-wood) it doesn’t lead to egg eating.
Once you have these mixed together, start adding the other ingredients from the homemade bread recipe, one at a time. Usually, I don’t like to use commercially canned vegetables, but I didn’t make any canned pumpkin this year, so I got some at the store. I found an organic store brand pumpkin.
I should take a moment to talk about the walnuts. It is really important that you use black walnuts. They have a distinctive flavor that really defines the taste of the pumpkin bread recipe. These are the ones I used.
Before you add the nuts and raisins to your batter, you need to “flour” these as well so that they won’t sink to the bottom of your bread while it’s baking. To do this, put the nuts and raisins in a large bowl or mixing cup. Add some flour on top.
Now shake it very gently. You can get your fingers in and mix them around as well. They will look like this when you’re done.
Now throw them in too and mix, mix, mix!
You’re ready to fill your prepared coffee cans. Divide the batter evenly between the three cans, and put them in the oven.
The homemade bread recipe says they should cook an hour, but I find they usually take closer to 80 minutes. To check them, stick a sharp knife down in the middle. They are done when the knife comes out clean.
When the bread comes out of the oven, let it sit until it cools. Then cut some squares of plastic wrap to cover the top. Use a pretty fabric bow to tie the plastic wrap down and give it some holiday cheer. You could decorate the can or write a message with a sharpie marker as well.
Recipe-In-A-Jar
Another thing I have gotten into making the last couple years is a recipe-in-a-jar. The idea is that you put all the dry ingredients for a recipe into a pretty jar and give it as a gift. Not only is it beautiful to look at, with all the layers of ingredients, but it is also a fun project for families to do together around the holidays.
When I started, I used prescribed recipes I found in a magazine, but soon I discovered you could do this with many different kinds of foods if you just followed a few rules:
Pick a recipe with mostly dry ingredients. I try to find something with three or less “wet” or fresh ingredients that will have to be added.
Consider the jar. You may be thinking…What is the best canning jar to use for this? You can use any canning jar you have, but vintage or unique jars will only add to the charm of your gift. If you are reusing old jars, just make sure the sterilize them before you add any food.
Consider the size of the jar. I typically use quart jars for baking recipes and pint jars for soups. You may need to size your recipes down so that the ingredients will fit in a jar. I have found that if you cut a typical cookie recipe in half, it will fit in a quart jar.
Consider what will layer well. When you are putting the ingredients in the jar, don’t just add them in order; think about what will stay in separate layers and be visually appealing.
Add ingredients carefully. I use my wide mouth funnel to allow for easy pouring of ingredients into the jar then carefully spread them into even layers. Try not to splash things around too much (especially flour and sugar) or the inside of your jar won’t stay clean and it won’t be as pretty when you are finished.
Allergies. In today’s world, you have to be careful about your ingredients and making sure you put a warning on the jar if it contains allergens, especially nuts.
This year, I made two kinds of jars: soup mixes and cookie mixes.
  Soup Mixes
In years past, I made up mixtures of beans, grains, spices and more to put in my jars. This year, I was short on time so I took the easy route: pre-made soup mixes. If you go to your grocery store, you will find many options in the soup aisle.
I chose two from Bob’s Red Mill: Whole Grain and Beans and Vegi. I selected these because I know the company makes a quality product and because they are visually a nice mix of colors and textures.
When I got them home, I divided the mixes between four-pint jars (each bag will fill two). I put on the lids, topped them with a circle cut from pretty cotton fabric, and tightened the bands down. Finally, I took the directions from the bag and made a little tag to attach to the jar. Whoever you give your recipe-in-a-jar to will need to know how to make it. Make sure your directions match the quantity you are providing in the jar. Here is an example of how I translated the instructions on the bag to my tag.
Finally, print and cut out your tag. Punch a hole in it, and use a piece of ribbon to tie it to the jar.
Cookie Mixes
This time of year, if you walk down the baking aisle, you will find all kinds of special items. I got several kinds of chips and candies to use. When I got them home, I modified the recipes from the backs of the bags for my jars. Here are several examples.
Chocolate Chip Cookies
I followed this recipe almost exactly, cutting it in half to fit in my pint jar.
Christmas M&M’s Cookies
For this jar, I used the Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe but switched out Christmas M&M’s for the chocolate chips. The red and green M&M’s are so festive. My stepsons always choose this one to take for their teachers.
White Chocolate Cranberry Cookies
This was originally meant to be baked as a blondie bar, but I cut it down for the jar and modified my directions to make a cookie. I also put walnuts in instead of macadamia nuts because that’s what I had in my freezer.
Mint Chocolate Delights
I followed this recipe fairly closely, cutting it in half for the jar. The cocoa powder, along with the mix of green and brown chips make this one quite festive as well.
Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
I cut this recipe in half and simplified the ingredients for my jar (by removing the white sugar and the raisins). The oats give it nice texture variation.
As I prepared my jars, I made labels for each. By typing them as I worked, it helped me keep straight which recipe went with which jar, modifications I had made, and if I needed to add any nut warnings. When I was all finished, I printed my tags and cut them out. Many of the cookie recipes call for vanilla extract. Another fun addition could be to make and include a homemade vanilla extract gift.
These are just a few ideas of easy recipe-in-a-jar gifts that I have made. Depending on the time you have to spend and how devoted you are to simple homesteading, you may make your recipes more homemade, less store-bought. Either way, though, they will be appreciated and enjoyed by the receiver! The possibilities are endless: mixes for tea, waffles, breads, meat rubs…
From Phillips Farm – we wish you a warm, healthy and relaxing holiday season!
Do you have a favorite homemade bread recipe passed down through the generations?
