Quick break from my regularly scheduled dinosaur propaganda to present my propaganda for the best-written OC I’ve ever seen in a fanfic. I didn't create Kiyoshi, but he lives in my head rent-free now. He looks like a normal-ass preteen but he is such a fascinating and hilarious being. He is simultaneously a serious and dramatic character study on the ethics of reincarnation and a character whose mere existence feels like a hilarious cosmic joke. He is the personification of an Angsty Crack-Taken-Seriously Fic.

“Fun” Facts About The Boy:

Has a big fluffy Samoyed named Taros.

He’s a trans boy! Came out when he was ten, and his parents & family friends accepted and supported him. These first two are fun facts and not “fun” facts, unlike pretty much the rest of his preteen existence

His sleep paralysis demon is his best friend’s past life

The reason he turned out good this time is, canonically, because he burned some ants with a magnifying glass when he was three and felt really bad about it

As a baby he hated this one aunt on sight for no discernible reason. He came around pretty quickly and now she's his favorite aunt, but 12 years later they found out that this was because that aunt was his past life's younger sister-in-law who he once tried to murder. She also happens to be his current middle school teacher's wife for some reason

His best friend once clapped at him so threateningly that Kiyoshi dissociated and almost had a past-life flashback/panic attack in the middle of capture the flag

He would be personally offended if he saw someone online call Heinz Doofenshmirtz a mad scientist*

Was once a popular kid… when he was a preschooler. Then his anxiety and self-judgement got so bad that now he just sits in the back of the classroom judging everyone and had no friends outside of his parents’ now-adult former students prior to the start of the fic

Despite being a neurotic ball of anxiety and self-loathing, he and his mom (who love each other very much) regularly cuss at each other. He’s probably better at saying “fuck” than any other thirteen year old

Is the voice of reason in his friend group despite having been, y'know, a war criminal in his past life

His best friends got into a fistfight on school grounds over whether or not he should be forgiven for his war crimes

Part of the reason that his redemption arc is so satisfying is that his awful past life knew his parents and friends and fucking hated them all. That man would’ve been legitimately horrified to learn he’d be reborn as this couple’s neurotic little scrimblo of a child. Pretty much every aspect of Kiyoshi’s personality is tailor-made to piss off his past life, and that was mostly a coincidence b/c most of Kiyoshi's character was created before the author had even considered making him a reincarnation. Kiyoshi literally just being himself and accepting who he is is a fate worse than death to the horrible narcissistic man that he was in his past life.

When he tried shit-talking his past life with a friend, the best insult they could come up with was “Ghetsis from Pokemon”

IT'S DONE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIRBY!!!

If you've been following me the last month, you've seen me posting invitations to join Kirby Birthday Collab. Well, as today is 27th, I'm proud to present the result of this collab!!

This collab ended up even bigger than the last year's one. When last year we mainly had only Dream Friends (with some special guests like Morpho, Galacta and Elfilin), this year we've got characters from many more groups, including villains! We've almost left no one behind lol

Kiyoshi has lived rent free in my brain for 4 years now. He's 13 years old and he is the most miserable little creature. Despite appearing to be a normal, angsty pre-teen, he's actually the reincarnation of the worst person any of his loved ones have ever met and he's grappling with the guilt that comes with that. He thinks he's a war criminal, and to a certain extent he is, but also he reads Warrior Cats and loves his mom. He is the perfect balance of 'legitimately messed up' and 'the funniest thing I've ever seen'. He is a moral dilemma and a fascinating specimen. He is divorced despite being a child. He canonically gets into kin drama.

Kiyoshi is a small, lanky kid with pale skin and blond hair. His eyes are mismatched-- with one being black and the other being blue, and usually he wears formal wear to seem proper for school. He is tiny and you could throw him around like a sack of potatoes. But watch out.

random kirby lore thing to come up with an idea about: where exactly does elfilis come from? are there others like them? what about others like elfilin or forgo? or are they one of a kind?

thats it they dont know where they came from or how they came to be n most of what remains of elfilis recorded is similar to folk tales n cryptid tales from sightings of them

Sorta Odd Kirby Ideas #1-2: "The Miracles Run Out" and "Warped Miracles" AU Ideas

So jdphobe (@giantchasm) recently made a great Kirby one-shot on AO3 called i dug my heels in for the winter and i waited for the snow, which is basically the ending of Heroes in Another Dimension, except that Francisca dies as a result of the Jamba Heart's power on her (or something); and it shows the tragedy of the situation through the grim reactions of everyone there, especially Hyness and the remaining two Mage-Sisters (Flamberge in particular being completely broken). It may very well be the most gut-wrenching Kirby fic I've ever read, and it (alongside the fact that jdphobe also brought up a similar concept where Carol dies in Forgotten Land, although they don't seem to have any plans to write it yet) got me thinking about some more Kirby AU's where the miracles Kirby pulls off to save people are flipped on their head. Before I describe them though, I'd recommend reading that fic first as it's really good, although if it sounds too depressing to you (which it is indeed a very depressing read), then perhaps my brief summary will suffice. I should also mention that a lot of this is from my comment under that fic (which I ended off by joking that I was getting revenge on them for introducing one depressing Kirby AU by giving them two depressing Kirby AU's). (Edit: @giantchasm told me that apparently the way Carol dies is that Leon kills her while under Forgo's control. So... there's that!)

AU #1: The Miracles Run Out

Here Kirby is miraculously able to save Sectonia in Triple Deluxe and Max in Planet Robobot, now back in their right minds. The method Kirby saves them through or their immediate aftermaths aren't relevant. Point is that Kirby has not only saved the day twice more, but was able to help those they had to fight to return to their senses and get their happy endings with their loved ones. Sectonia got return home uncorrupted with her best friend and Max, in his right mind again, was finally able to reunite with his daughter. Kirby's naturally feeling really good about themself and thinking that whoever needs their help to reach the light, they'll just save everyone.

And then HiAD happens, which I'll just pick up from here with jdphobe's AU. Right as Hyness and the Mages are seemingly freed from the Jamba Heart's grasp, it turns out that Francisca, the youngest and most beloved Mage-Sister doesn't survive. As the scene unfolds in the original fic, Taranza and Susie react in ways referring to their own canonical tragedies. In fact Magolor is the one who checks Francisca to confirm her death, and he's shaken by how the way in which she died was very similar to how he nearly died under the Master Crown. One intriguing idea to consider is that in the AU where Secty and Max live, perhaps we see their reactions of how close they were to losing their lives to such similar situations (and for that matter, how close Taranza and Susie were to seeing their loved ones die like that). No doubt that Kirby's confidence in their ability to save others takes a hit due to this tragedy (one particularly brutal bit in that fic has them desperately and tearfully trying to revive Fransisca with Friend Hearts, but they don't work and Dedede and Meta have to drag them away). But it only gets worse come Forgotten Land. Considering what little jdphobe has said about the Carol side of their AU, I'll just cut to the obvious details and say that Leon is under Forgo's control and kills Carol (as she's trying to reassemble her husband's soul) right before his soul is restored. It's easy to imagine that with Carol all but explicitly confirmed to be his wife, her death ends up absolutely devastating Leon, especially with how it was his own hand that killed her, even if it wasn't really him. And also the 3DS characters here would again be shaken by how badly they could have turned out. Also likely devastated though is Kirby, who by now likely has their confidence completely shattered after two straight tragedies that they couldn't prevent. That said, at least it's cherrier than the other AU.

AU #2: Warped Miracles

The Switch games happen the same, but the catch here is that in the 3DS games, Sectonia and Max do survive (again, the method doesn't matter)... but NOT Taranza or Susie. Maybe Taranza is killed when Sectonia blasts him off the balcony. Maybe Susie is fatally wounded when Star Dream zaps her and only has enough in her to summon the Robobot Armor and maybe (depending on when Max gets saved) tell Kirby to tell her father, should they see him again, that she loved her and only wanted to save him from Star Dream's influence. In that instance, not only does Kirby end up with a streak of four tragic deaths that they couldn't prevent (you can only imagine how that would weigh on them), but we see how Sectonia and Max would react to their loved ones' deaths instead of the other way around, and they'd likely be absolutely brutal.

Just to indulge in the "how's" for a bit in how they'd be saved, if Max got somehow had his memories restored and he was OK and everything during the Star Dream battle, but Susie was already gone, at that point I can only imagine Max just running to the computer's core and trying to blow it up both out of anger and out of feeling like there was nothing left to live for. I mean, he sacrificed years of his life, his mind, his morality, his memories, and almost his very soul to bring back his daughter, and not only was he too far gone to know that she had returned, but once he was back in his right mind, his beloved daughter had died saving him and his soul from what he had become. But as for him surviving, becoming friends with Kirby, and trying to move on from his child's death, I could see him empathizing with Hyness in the jdphobe fic, and how both of them got corrupted and had their daughter die in the ensuing mess.

Meanwhile for Sectonia, whenever Kirby does purify her, I imagine that she'd immediately start searching for Taranza in hopes that he survived, as she still knows that she blasted him. (In fact, you could very well have her true self start to regain control the moment she zaps him as she realizes how bad she's gotten.) But then she finds his corpse, and I could imagine that either Kirby would have to hold her back from jumping into the abyss or that she'd be clinging onto his body in hysterics incapable of believing that "she" killed her best friend who had never given up on her, even if it wasn't really her in control. Maybe Kirby, who hadn't yet seen a tragedy like this and also may or may not even know about the corruption, tries to comfort her by telling her that Taranza had likely long wanted her to be free from the Mirror's corruption, but Sectonia would still be devastated by how her beloved Taranza had died by technically her own hand, even if she wasn't in control of herself. Heck, considering both her grief and guilt from both Taranza's death and all the chaos she caused, I doubt Sectonia would want to keep ruling Floralia even if she were allowed to. From there, she likely sympathizes with Max and Hyness and the two Mages over their losses. But I especially see her becoming close grieving buddies with Leon and them bonding over being royals who not only narrowly survived getting corrupted, but killed their lovers while they were out of control.

Just felt like these ideas were too fascinating to leave to rot in those comments.

Dazor - before the Fall of Gorandra, he’d be soooo easy to befriend. Like, Kirby-levels of easy to befriend. Post-Fall though, he still desperately craves that friendship deep down, but he’s been forced to lone wolf his way through the universe for awhile and it’ll take some time for him to fully let people in. Kirby and co would break down his barriers fairly quick though!

Ao-Yong - I'd say they'd be fairly difficult to befriend, primarily due to being difficult to reach physically and emotionally. As a guardian of Gorandra, Ao and their fellow guardians are/were amiable to their land's past and current inhabitants, but pretty detached from day-to-day affairs, mainly focused on the well-being of their world as a whole. That said, once they realized Dazor wasn't integrating into any of Gorandra's societies, they allowed him to stay with them, and they ended up getting pretty attached.

Ky - They can be pretty social and easy enough to befriend on a surface level, but at the end of the day, they prefer to travel alone, and don't really like any long term relationships as a result. It is a treat when they re-encounter a friendly face though.

Dazor - Ao raised him on stories of their feats and sins, so Dazor would be pretty knowledgeable on them. Plus, he's running around with the Master Crown's inspiration and a crystal from the fae (the K64 fairies are Ancients in my verse, though the crystal's origin might change). He's pretty connected to their legacy, and he feels conflicted about them: simultaneously in awe of their achievements, but disgusted at all the mistreatment and destruction they've caused as well. He tries not to let it distract him from his more immediate priorities though.

Ao - Oh, Ao would know allll about the Ancients, they had a hand (or claw) in some of their creations after all. Knowing the kind of sins they built their achievements on and how they ruined themselves in the end though, they don't have the highest opinion of them, though they would have varying opinions on individuals.

Ky - Major spoilers to their (current) backstory: Ky was a product of a civilization's... inspired project to create 'an ultimate lifeform' of their own, one attempt involving a fusion between a good-hearted guardian and powerful psychic being. They don't remember how and why they came to be, the question of their origin always in the back of their mind, no matter how occupied they are. It drives their travels, though they will pause to interact with whatever ruins or people that catch their eye. They are aware of their legends, and they see them with wonder and questions about them.

All three ocs here definitely fall pretty comfortably into the magic side. (I really love @/giantchasm's intrep of magic and tech way more similar than at first glance - the main difference being magic magic being innate to oneself and tech magic being pulled from outside oneself)

Out of the three though, Dazor is the most tech-aligned, willing to use what he can figure out and put together, like using his crystal as any weapon of his choice, or picking up a blaster. Albeit he would be afraid of breaking anything he doesn't understand, which is a lot.

Fun fact: Dazor and Ao were once Mirror versions of Magolor and Landia respectively before becoming their own characters. Ao was just a gray and blue recolor, and Dazor was trusting as a mirror reversal of Magolor's manipulations. Since both are now their own characters, I think they'd have their own mirror versions, though I haven't settled on a definite interp on what the mirror reflects of viewers.

Dazor - I think his mirror counterpart would reflect either his desire for affection and companionship, or some kind of fear and/or anger he has: fear of being hurt (again), fear of being lost, fear and anger at being alone in a vast, uncaring universe trying to accomplish something so difficult. He'd probably get along with the former (even if it takes a while), the latter option, not so much.

(Not sure what Ao's counterpart would reflect of them)

Ky - I can see their mirror reflecting their fear of being/becoming a destructive monster despite their best efforts, they would not like their counterpart at all.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIRBY!!!

It is currently 1:03 AM at my end on April 27th, and I'm just done with rendering this beast, so I feel I can unveil this project that took over a span of 3 weeks on Far-Flung Starlight Heroes server - this collab!

The idea of this collab was simple - every participant picks a character from the series and draws them onto a rough placement sketch, while I afterwards put all of them together onto a single canvas. Kirby and banner were there since the start and were open for interaction.

No one suspected I would do an entire background for it >:3c

Long story short, these two were in love looong ago. After unfortunate events, both had their turns in getting transformed into magical objects.

Thankfully two “mature” & “responsible” people found them on their own. Now that they’ve got wind of a story between them, they’re trying to make them TALK. I mean… come one girls, you haven’t had a proper heart-to-heart since you broke up! Maybe the sparkle still exists somewhere? 🤔

sorry if you’ve been asked already, but thoughts on nagisa/karma/gakushuu? it’s definitely a rarepair (rarethree?? raretrio????), but i think overall it’s a very fun dynamic!!

I'm not personally into it. I think because polyamory isn't my kind of thing in general though, not any inherent issues with the ship. I can understand why some people enjoy it.

Definitely read @giantchasm's Adventures In Solitude if you haven't already. It also has Kayano in the ship but it seems like you'd enjoy it.
