oK HALLOWEEN REQUESTS?! BET!!! GET THIS, STEVE WHO KEEPS HEARING SCARY NOISES IN HIS HOUSE AND HE CALLS READER (his gf) TO BE LIKE DUDE THERES A FUCKING GHOST and it’s a cat who got stuck in his attic or something 🥹
ty for requesting ♡ you and steve go ghost hunting. fem, 1.1k
Steve's waiting for you. Front door open, your boyfriend stands in his pyjamas with a leather jacket thrown over the top, hair ruffled but adorable, one pant leg tucked into his sock and the other dragging on the floor.
"Planning on a quick getaway?" you tease.
Steve hangs his head. "Whatever, just kiss me."
You love him even if you tease, using the door jam for extra height as you tip your head back to kiss him. With the way he kisses you can't be expected to abstain, hot little crescent moons of touch pressed softly to the seam of your lips, like the very beginning of a heavier kiss. It distracts you, and you forget why you're there.
"'M being haunted," he says against your mouth.
"Right," you remember. "You sounded hysterical on the phone. I thought maybe you'd been spiked." He rolls his eyes. "Hey, it happened once before!"
"Just come listen. It's a weird thumping."
"Maybe there's a guy living up there," you suggest, taking your shoes off by the door.
Steve takes your hand gently, his words much less coddling, "Sure, there's a man living in my attic. He comes out when I sleep."
"Well, don't scare yourself."
"It's fucking weird. It's definitely a spirit."
"Like that vampire you saw last Christmas."
Steve leads you upstairs to his room, where he encourages you to get comfortable. You take off your jacket and your bag. You'd brought pyjamas, figuring Steve's phone call to be an invitation rather than a real ghost hunt, but you'll save them for afterwards. He looks comfortable, and he smells nice as you drop your face into his arm.
"Listen," he says, bringing the forearm of the arm you're snuggling up to stroke whatever skin of yours he can reach, "it'll happen again. It's constant."
"It's maybe a burst pipe."
He shushes you, not unkindly. "Just listen."
On the phone, he'd been dramatic enough that you assumed this was a cute ploy to see you. You'd felt quite flattered —Steve doesn't seem to realise how much of a catch he is, so his flirting is over the top, and it really keeps the crush alive even while you're dating. There's a fucking ghost, dude, you need to come over right now.
Really? I thought your parents bought the house new?
Baby! Don't make me beg. And don't make me die alone.
You tilt your head to one side and listen hard for his promised ghost, an excuse to be in Steve's space more than anything. After a few dull seconds of silence, you turn forward and offer him a smirk. "You don't have to make stuff up for me to come over. I would've come to see you for no reason."
"And while I appreciate that," he says, his hand moving to your face, your cheek to his palm, "there's really, actually a ghost."
You look up in tandem as a strange sound echoes from above Steve's bedroom. It can't be a person, the weight doesn't shift loud nor close enough for footsteps, only groans in one place before creaking further toward the door.
"Oh," you say. Steve squeezes your cheek.
To get into Steve's attic you have to build a precarious ledge. He doesn't have a stepladder and the attic itself has no fold down, nor a ring pulley. "We don't go in there, the house is big enough already," he explains, lugging his TV stand under the attic opening. "This is barely tall enough to get up there."
"Maybe you can boost me?" you suggest, though the idea of being that far up doesn't sound enticing.
"No way, it's dark up there. If one of us is going to be killed by a ghost, it'll be me." He kisses your cheek and hops up onto the stand with impressive dexterity. You grit your teeth. "And besides, you don't like heights."
"Steve, is this a bad idea? What if it's an owl? It'll attack you."
"It's not an owl," —he grabs at the attic tile and pushes it in, grunting as he pulls the weight of his upper half inside with it— "it's a ghost, beautiful." His legs disappear into the attic. You can hardly see him. "We should've found a flashlight."
"I can go look?"
"I'll be fine, probably."
"Stay away from the hole! If you fall and break your back I'll have to work two jobs and someone else will have to give you sponge baths–"
"Why do you actually sound worried? I'm not going to fa– Holy fuck!"
A huge thunk. You huff out a worried exhale, asking, "Are you okay? Stevie?" as you climb onto the TV stand and peer into the dark attic.
"I'm okay! I'm gonna come back, don't flinch." His face appears in the opening. "I tripped over something. It's weird, you won't believe me, but the floor is wet in here. There must be a leak in the roof."
"Be careful, Steve, please," you murmur.
Steve leans down in the gap to kiss your frown. "Sorry. I'm being careful. Could you bring me some towels? I'm gonna clean this up."
You throw him a couple of towels from his laundry room like you're shooting shoddy hoops, laughing at his worse catching. The floor moans as he cleans, but there doesn't seem to be any ghost now that he's investigating. In fact, the house is very, very quiet.
"Did you hear that?" Steve asks.
You shiver. "Don't mess around!" you call, though you're not mad. "You're giving me goosebumps."
Steve goes quiet for a little while. You chew on your lip, consider standing on the TV stand again to climb in after him, but ultimately stand frozen under the gap, waiting.
He says something too quiet to hear.
"What?" you ask.
Your response comes unexpectedly, a little white face held by two bigger hands from the ceiling, and a frankly earth-shattering yowl.
"Look! It's a cat!"
"I can see."
"Take him, take him!"
You take the cat even as he hisses at you, holding his claws as far from you as you can manage. Steve huffs and puffs as he slides his way down, the TV stand wobbling ever so slightly as he closes the attic and hops down onto the floor.
"He's aggressive," you say, wincing as the cat hisses again. "How big was the leak? I mean, how did he get up there?"
"I told you already," Steve says, attempting to pet the cat and dodging a well-aimed claw, "he's a ghost."
"Very funny, H. Now, um, what are we gonna do with him?"
"...I was hoping you'd know."
"I guess you have a pet now. Congrats, babe."

heres your friendly reminder that you very much should listen to every liveshow if you're able. if you can't afford it (or find someone willing to lend it to you) then at least asking someone what happened or going to @cecilspeaks or the wtnv wiki and reading the available transcripts is strongly advised.
from my recollection, here are some of the main important things from the current liveshows:
The Debate: more info on hiram and the FOW's political platforms, marcus vanston becomes an angel, kevin can see the FOW's face
Condos: the in-canon reason why carlos' voice changed, carlos and cecil moving in together, what carlos thinks a perfect life would be, cecil saving carlos for once
The Librarian: i don't recall this one having anything with long-term relevance except for giving us a better understanding of the librarians, but carlos and cecil are horny at each other in it and that's always fun
The Thrilling Adventure Hour: this one i'm a hypocrite about and didn't listen to sorry
The Investigators: carlos is really cute in it but also very cringe and it hurt bulk a lot to listen to. cecil's desk is made entirely out of knives and he has a nest of owls in his office, pamela winchell is part falcon, cecil almost gets murdered. kevins in this one too if that sweetens the pot for anyone
Ghost Stories: get a lot of character insight for a lot of reoccurring characters and also learn a ton about cecil's childhood and relationship with abby. i consider this one to be the most important wtnv liveshow and if you can only get one, this is it
All Hail: info on the glow cloud's personality and motivations, info on deb's family, tamika flynn is immune to the glow cloud's mind control, pamela winchell is into deb, cecil describes his engagement ring, cecil admits he's aware that all his interns always die
A Spy in the Desert: deb knows every secret in town, cecil was stuck at 19, cecil cries every morning because he's getting older, this is where we first learn about esteban
The Haunting of Night Vale: this one doesn't have a transcript up for me to reference to so what i remember is that we get cecil's musings on how his childhood trauma is creating insecurity in himself as a husband and father, also we get to see cecil be a little sugar baby and carlos sweating over how much he's spending
The Attic: i wont spoil this one because it's on going
if anyone else has things they thought were important from the liveshows please feel free to add. i just went off my memory and a skim of the transcripts, which don't always transcribe all the bonus content

In Which, I Go On A Walk And Hear A Ghost Story, That Has Nothing to Do with Jedis (drabble)
Tumblr media
As Told By Grogu Djarin
for Cat's kitten!  @radiowallet
A note from Hazel: Grogu is sharing the sweet story of Georgie by Robert Bright
HI Kitten!
I wanted to send you a mail, because it is almost time to do my favorite holiday, and I was told it is your favorite too!
I bet we have a lot of things in common.
Are you thinking about what you will be? Last time I did not get to dress up for really real. I was myself. Which I know is a great choice. But I am me all the others days. So I am excited to be something else. I might be a frog… or maybe a chicken… OH or maybe a mandadalorian!!
I already got my very own beskar shirt!
Anyways, let me know what you are going to wear for tricks and treats!
Here is a story about the time I walked down a spooky trail that was not spooky at all.
Tumblr media
Halloween is a fun dress-up and candy time, and a day to remember your people who have died. Plus also to try and scare yourself…
I do not know.
So one time, we went for a walk in the woods and it was supposed to scare us very much.
Okay so it was getting dark and we took this walk. The path was lighted with torches. I hear they are called tiki. And there were lots of other kids, some were in their costumes and some were just dressed as kids. I was dressed as a me.
So there was a person in the path they had little horns sticking up of their curly hairs and goat feets and furry legs, plus also no shirt but a scarf. I question their fashion sense.
Okay, so Goat Guy was telling us to stay on the path, that nothing will touch us, and to have fun.
So far I do not know how we will have fun under these conditions.
We did the creeping kind of walking. And friends held onto each other, so I put my hand on dad's boot. For safeness.
And then suddenly an owl person popped out from behind a tree!
Okay, I was surprised because of the jumping and “whoo- whooing” plus also it was a person owl, which is unusual. But I was not scared, I guess when you have been through all the stuff me and my dad have, an owl person just does not cut it.
But the owl person told us a story about a ghost, named Georgie. He was not a Jedi… I do not think…
ANYWAYS
Georgie was a little ghost that lived in the attic of a people called Whitakers house.
And he used to do "ghost jobs" of creaking the steps and squeaking the door, I am doing quotes because what?? ANYWAYS then for reasons I do not understand the Whitaker people said to themselves let’s go to bed because the house making noise… I shruggle at this news. And then the people went to bed the cat with the name of Herman said lemme go outside and do prowling and then the owl called Miss Oliver, that lived in the tree outside the window knew it was time to wake up and ask nobody inparticuar “who” all night long… Well, apparently this works for everyone. Until one day the Whitaker guy got it into his head to do some repairs- he nailed down the creaky step and he put oil on the squeaky bit on the door and then those things did not make noises for Georgie! I think he must have did a dad sigh of, can I just do my job please, people?
Well because he could not do his work he got bored and moped just sitting up in the attic. And no one when to bed, or prowled or asked questions of who… and the owl guy telling the story said that,  that was fine how do you do! But Kitten, this is a thing which is called a sarcasm, and that means it was NOT a fine how do you do, it was a poor how do you do NOT! See how that works it is tricky.
So Georgie left!! He went running all around looking for a house but they all had ghosts already? This must be the spooky part- all these ghosts that are not Jedi all over the place.
Plus also the only house in the village without a ghost was Mr. Gloams' place… it made Georgie scared- when he stepped on the stair it groaned! And the doors moaned! And apparently, that Gloams was a crotchet! I do not know what a crotchet is but it must be bad because he scared Georgie half to death- and he is a ghost… so that is saying something…
So Georgie runned away again. He went to a barn and there was a cow there which is nice. But Georgie got bored again cuz the cow was not a conversationalist.
So while Georgie was there lots of time happened and there was lots of rain and then snow on snow on snow… Georgie was cold and uncomfortable… this is a mystery to me. Cuz he is a ghost.
Meanwhile Herman the cat, remember Herman? He noticed that all that damp weather made the stair creak again and the door squeak again and he told Miss Oliver the owl and she flew right out to tell Georgie.
Georgie thought that these were glad tidings. What is a tiding? I do not know, but Georgie knew and he ran home lickity-split! Which I hear is fast. I like going lickity-split. I think lickity split sounds like ice creams... hmmmm I am hungry.
Oh! Sorry
ANYWAYS, he started just doing his thing again. Creaking and squeaking and everyone knew what they were supposed to do again.
This is the story an owl person told me on a scary walk in the woods… hmmm.
Okay, I like the story but I do not know if it was the proper tone for this Halloween spooky walk. But they gave us hot chocolate plus also candy so thank you Goat Guy and Owl Person! I was terrified!
The End!

On three separate occasions I’ve been woken up from a dead sleep at 3:30 am by what I can only describe as something falling on the roof? And each time I think huh that was weird there’s another, louder sound exactly an hour later. Thudding from overhead. Banging on the roof. 3:30 am and 4:30 am, like clockwork.
The weirdest part is that my outdoor camera catches the noise and it sounds like flapping? Something fluttering in the wind? Against the window? But there’s never any wind on the nights I hear the noises. And I don’t have shutters or anything that would make that sound.
I’ve complained about it to everyone, friends, family, coworkers. I’ve heard every suggestion: a bat that got trapped in the attic, a truck on the road, ghosts, an owl, tree limbs… This past occasion I was so, so exhausted at work, I stared blankly at the dude who joked it was aliens. I just didn’t have the energy to give a shit.
With the hour between noises I’m convinced it’s something mechanical, something on a schedule or circuit. In my experience animals aren’t that punctual, and it happens on such a rigid timeline. Thankfully I don’t hear it every night, but it’s happened enough times that there’s a distinct, predictable pattern. There was about a year between the first and second occurrences, a month between the most recent one.
I’m at my wits’ end trying to figure out what exactly is the cause for the Curious Incident of the Noise in the Night-Time. Aside from going outside and sitting there in anticipation for the second noise, I don’t know what to do :|

Okay, with all the pictures and shells and fish and whatnot sorted, it was back to regular gameplay -- just in time to see Kelly sampling the fish platter I'd had to leave on the counter because I couldn't get it to drag into the fridge right away. XD I quickly got it away from her while I directed Victor to say hi to Shadow (who was very happy to see him again), Alice to grab the eggs out of the coop (two hatchable and one regular -- really gotta clear out all those roosters), and Smiler --
To start decorating the place! Or, well, to FINISH decorating it, more accurately, as I'd spent a little time dragging all their various Spookfest decorations, along with the two pumpkin carving stations, out of the attic while getting their pictures and souvenirs sorted. Some fun purple icicle lights for the eaves and black-and-white ghost banners on the fences completed the look --
As did Alice starting her pumpkin! Because a) you gotta have jack-o-lanterns for Spookfest and b) in my personal experience, the best way to complete the "Spooky Spirit" tradition is to carve a pumpkin -- interacting with ghosts and occult Sims is kind of iffy at best to get it to fire. *shakehead* Oh Sims 4... I naturally had her carve up a kitty pumpkin, on a pale orange pumpkin -- and she did so well that it turned out to be a masterpiece! :) Alice is just good at The Arts, what can I say.
And right after that, the first trick-or-treater showed up at the house! Smiler at the time was busy in the greenhouse brewing up a soothing skin balm potion (and getting their Herbalism skill up to level 6), while Victor was busy bathing Shadow (and then magicking away the resultant puddles), so it fell on Alice to give the visiting teen a trick or a treat. I had her quickly change into a costume, picking "space ranger" more or less at random, and give the kid some candy. Because she's a nice lady at heart, even if her "Loner" trait means she actually ignores the "Trick Or Treat" tradition herself. I then sent her inside to paint while Smiler started on their jack-o-lantern (a white one with a big grin on it, natch) and I sent Victor down to begin his (an orange one with an owl design, because I hadn't seen that one yet) --
And then, upon seeing the pets both downstairs, I went "hang on -- doesn't Kelly have a taco outfit? I should dress her up in that for Halloween! And Shadow as -- oh, wait, all she has is her little sweater and bow-tie...looks like we're popping into CAS for a second to get her a costume too!"
And so I did, choosing one of the "super-llama" outfits for her (in yellow and black, because you know that Smiler picked this out XD). Alice put Shadow and Kelly into their Halloween costumes, played a little bit of laser pointer with Kelly, then headed into the studio to do a playful painting, while Victor and Smiler got back to work on their pumpkins (going into CAS had knocked them out of their actions, and Smiler in particular had to start over because the game wouldn't let me resume their previous pumpkin, meh). So that was Alice and the pets all dressed up for the holiday...
