"Came out of the dark, as if they were made of it."
How did they come to be so uninhibited, in a Puritan society, that they could dance naked together?
They'll make eggs. We see the them eating on a Formica table in the kitchen; steps lead down to the back door.
Working furiously at every household task, chopping, stirring and knitting as fast as possible.
Blindfolded and barefoot, tries to run away in the snow.
Killers shack up in a motel room with two hookers.
"Truth, beauty, freedom and love."
Those who think they can buy affection are suckers; a wise man is content to rent it.
Who embodies longing with their eyes and sighs.
That's where they make their mistake.
"It didn't happen like that in our history, but it should have."

#most attrocious defense of AI I ever heard#listen im not even fully anti AI and that sentence alone made me like#“put it back. put it down.”#there's a level of physical dysphoria digital artists have to get accustomed to that doesn't exist with traditional#by dysphoria I mean it's common for beginners to have difficulty with being able to accurately place the cursor/pen where they want it#so it's common for beginners to put a blank piece of paper ontop of their tablet to compensate#you cannot just jump into digital art from traditional it takes a level of practice and skill that takes YEARS to master#to compare it to AI prompts is a spit in the face of not only the industry but digital art in general#like. i could go on but man that made me fucking mad

“ we were dreamers not so long ago . ”
Van stopped walking when she got to the sand at the end of the limestone path to the river from Shauna and Jeff’s wedding reception. A healthy dose of alcohol over the course of the night had kept her warm as she’d wandered off down the path, but once she’d bent down to remove her loafers and her socks, letting her toes bury into the night-cool sand, she felt the cold start to soak through her body. Once upon a time, not even five years ago, Van had felt as if she’d never be truly warm again, and the shiver that went up her spine felt more like a memory than a necessity.
Van made sure her shoes were to the side and not a tripping hazard before continuing down to the waterline, the wet sand more solid under her feet, and a helluva lot colder, but she didn’t mind. As water lapped at the hem of her dress pants, she pulled the heavy gold pen out of her pocket and toyed with it between her fingers in front of her. She smiled a little, knowing that the replacement pen would reveal a naked woman when it was turned over to be written with. It was a joke, but she felt a little as if this whole wedding was a bit of a joke, not that she’d say that aloud. She knew Shauna was eager to move on and leave the wilderness behind, but Van wasn’t convinced marrying her dead best friend’s boyfriend, and the father of her baby who didn’t make it out there, was the way for her to do it. Van wasn’t really able to talk though, she knew she was as stuck in the past as any of them.
As Van’s feet started to sink in the mud, the legs of her tailored pants growing increasingly more soaked through, she watched the river flowing quietly by, the reflection of the stars vibrating on the surface. Not that long ago, all things considered, Van had found comfort in inky black water, watching her body disappear under the surface, knowing that the solidness she found was nothing to be afraid of. That it was Taissa. Van hadn’t thought twice then about following Tai out into the pitch black water. She knew if Tai walked past her then, waist deep into water that looked the same but was nowhere close to it, she wouldn’t hesitate to throw her waistcoat onto the sand and follow her again.
She knew it was stupid, and unfair to herself, and unfair to whoever Taissa had left behind at college to come to this wedding, but she also knew herself enough to know she’d do it anyway.
Van rolled the pen between her fingers, the metal warm from being toyed with, then slid it back into her pocket, almost as if she could put her thoughts away with it.
Of course, it was never that easy, and like a manifestation of the thoughts she was trying to get away from, footsteps coming to a stop beside her belonged to Taissa. Van closed her eyes to keep herself from looking at her, but it only lasted a minute before she caved and slanted her face towards Taissa.
She had nothing to say, but she couldn’t look away. Taissa had let her hair grow back since being rescued, curls now neatly styled for the celebration they’d walked away from, and the moonlight was catching on the clips that was holding it in place. Her profile was familiar, and also different, now that they’d entered adulthood, and she was still beautiful. Tai wasn't looking at her, but Van didn't need her to be to know what her eyes looked like. She'd looked into those big, beautiful dark eyes on so many nights, and she knew well the tumbling roll of her stomach when she did so.
She wanted to tell Taissa what she'd been thinking about, that she'd been remembering the two of them standing waist deep in the lake of the wilderness. Specifically the night Tai had told her she was going to go looking for help. Van had followed her then too, off into the wild unknown, but she didn't have to try very hard to remember that.
Van put her warm fingers to her cold cheek, feeling the puckered skin of the scar that dipped and rose towards her ear.
“Do you remember what I said to convince you to let me go with you and look for help?” Van asked, surprising herself with the sound of her own voice. She knew Taissa didn't want to talk about what they'd been through, but so much of them was entwined in it, Van couldn't find a reason not to.
“I told you about…about wanting to take you to New York. For a soft pretzel and a carriage ride.” Van looked back out at the water and let her hand fall from her cheek, putting them both into her pocket where she curled her fingers around Shauna's stupid ceremonial pen.
They'd never made it to New York, and Van had still never gone on a carriage ride around Central Park. “We were dreamers then, and it wasn't even all that long ago.”

Dani eases herself onto the bed carefully, slipping under the covers and curling her body around Gigi’s, mindful of her injuries. In her semi-conscious state, Gigi’s hand reaches for her and Dani takes it, linking their fingers together as she places a gentle kiss on her temple, avoiding the bruises that blemish her usually perfect skin.
“It’s okay, my love,” Dani soothes her, as Gigi mumbles incoherently, the strong painkillers wreaking havoc on her dreams as she tries to rest, “I’m right here”.
