オチ・オサム展を観て

オチ・オサムの《出口ナシ》は、大きな倉庫の分厚い扉にも、あるいは何かを封じ込めた石棺にも見える一対の直方体から成る。その両方の同じ側にガラス窓があり、そこから内部を覗くと、一対のワイングラスが口を合わせて据えられている。グラスの下には血が流れるように赤い絵の具がこぼれている。その様子を初めて目にしたとき、漆黒の二つの立体の重量感も相まって、行き場がないなかで傷だけが広がっていくような無力感と鈍い痛みを覚えたが、一方の物体が他方にもたれるように据え置かれている様子には、重苦しさだけに尽きない要素を感じないわけにはいかなかった。 1962年に東京都美術館で開催された読売アンテパンダン展に出品された《出口ナシ》の再制作版（2015年）を初めて見たのは、2022年の夏のことだった。その頃開催されていた、この美術館の東京都現代美術館に至る歴史を見直す収蔵作品展「コレクションを巻き戻す2nd」に、…

Inspired by the bathroom Armand-Albert Rateau created for Jeanne Lanvin in Paris in 1924, recreated within the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, French-Italian architect and interior designer Henri Garelli fashioned a glamorous Directoire-style bathroom for the lady of the house, featuring and one of Rateau’s chandeliers. Photography by Roland Beaufre for The World of Interiors, January 2006. Armand Albert Rateau (1882-1938) was one of France’s greatest Art Deco designers, creating everything from furniture to theatre interiors. He created some wonderful pieces for his friend, the legendary couturier Jeanne Lanvin
