Finally made a set of rainbow dice that I actually like. There is a bit of color mixing in some but none of it looks muddy so I count that as a win.

A few weeks ago, I entered a giveaway for a set of dice from @longdogdice on twitter aaand I won!
How GORGEOUS are these? I know we all joke about eating our dice, but like… COME ON.

I ordered these dice sets 10 days ago, but they're shipping from the UK and I didn't pay extra for tracking, so I have no idea where they are or when they'll arrive. I guess if I don't have them by next week I'll contact the seller and see what the hold up is. I wanted the full rainbow, but the site I use was sold out of orange and blue, so I subbed in classic white and a nice pink (they had a really ugly cotton candy pink, but I prefered the darker shade)
At present, my collection consists of 44 dice
Three d4
One d5
Six d6
One d7
Three d8
One d9
Six d10 (three d100 pairs)
One d11
Three d12
Eight d13 (my lucky number)
One d14
One d15
One d16
One d17
One d18
One d19
Four d20
One d21
I have three full standard sets, but I'm much more interested in the irregulars. The problem is that each individual irregular die costs the exact same as a whole standard set! Platonic solids are mass produced, but the inbetweens apparently only have one manufacturer (I ordered my 13s from three different sites, but they all use the exact same mold), so I can't afford to buy a ton of them at a time. I'll have to build my collection slowly over the coming months and years. I'll start with the primes.

Sometimes my mind knows peace, and sometimes I remember the T20 by Wyrmwood Gaming... as well as the second, LARGER T20, also by Wyrmwood Gaming.

Matron of Ravens dice set. The grey in this set came out much lighter this time and the iridescent tule is lost a bit but it makes the black feathers really pop!

Hey, ttrpg community. I’m Hawke!
I wanted to reintroduce myself. If you are a dice goblin like myself, maybe we can be mutuals? I love dice photography, character creation, and cozy vibes!

A year or two ago one of my co-workers gave me an old golfball holder they were getting rid of. I don't have any golfballs, but I took it anyway because I thought it would make a nice display case for my pool balls; I don't have a pool table, but I love the game and I thought the 7 or the 8 or the 13 would make a nice paperweight, so I figured I may as well buy the whole set. Anyway, I knew pool balls were considerably larger than golfballs, but the shelves looked like they might be perfect, a real snug fit. And they almost were! Just a few millimeters too small! I could probably have forced them in, but I would've cracked the wood or chipped the plastic. Since then, the holder has been literally collecting dust in a corner of my bedroom. I didn't know what to do with it until recently.
Last year, I started collecting dice. I have a few standard sets of gaming dice, but I also bought a ton of odd-numbered irregulars to fill in the gaps. I'm especially fond of the 13-sider, my favorite number. I just realized the other day that the golfball holder would be the perfect display case for all my dice! There are 25 shelves, and I have dice numbered 4 through 21, so there's plenty of space left over to grow my collection.

As you can see, I'm rather fond of the color purple. Perhaps too fond, because when I had them mixed together in a dice bag they all looked exactly the same, so I had to turn them back and forth in my hand to find their highest numbers (I didn't have this problem with the regulars, just the odds, the 14, 16, and 18). This holder makes it so much easier to tell them apart and find whichever number I'm looking fot. I definitely need more dice for each slot, but the website I buy from closes their warehouse over the summer, so I'll have to wait until August.
I don't even play table top games, I just really like dice. This is a fun pointless collection, and I look forward to continuing it. Maybe someday I'll build custom shelves for each number, because the 13 spot is crowded and the 21-sider is much bigger than the rest and needs more space.

good news: my kickstarter dice came in!
not so good news: I’m kinda sorta really disappointed in them. the kickstarter set that I’m giving as a gift looks nice - looks like what the kickstarter said they would look like. But the custom set I bought doesn’t look nearly as nice. I paid a lot in the kickstarter to get the custom (one set of the kickstarter dice was around $55, the set of kickstarter dice and the set of custom dice was $300), and I had multiple conversations with the creator on what I wanted. I did ask for the oversized d20 in my custom set as well (oversized d20 with the kickstarter dice was additional $45, which I paid for and got and that looks good) and I was totally okay with paying 45 for a custom oversized d20. I communicated that to the creator and they told me they’d let me know how they wanted to handle payment for that one specifically. And then they never did.
There were some delay issues with some of the custom sets which took longer for the dice to come (should have gotten them in August and I just got them now). In the package box the creator thanked me and said they liked my idea for the custom and they gave me the oversized d20 for free - but the oversized d20 doesn’t look anything like I thought it would.
It’s unfinished with a lot of flaws. The numbers aren’t painted, the die has multiple scratches. The packaging for the kickstarter dice had them all in protective bags inside the wrapping, whereas the custom dice were loose in the dice box and the oversized d20 in one bubble wrap.
The oversized d20 was what I was most looking forward to. I was gonna carry it around with me, keep it close always, because it’s themed after one of my favorite books. And I’m just really disappointed and sad.
The creator didn’t even give me a chance to actually pay for it. I don’t know what happened, but it seems like maybe they started working on it, maybe something didn’t go right, so they gave me what they made with no additional effort and gave it to me for free.
I’m really disappointed. I had heard really good things about this creator from other people I like and trust, and I understood the high price for the custom - the custom tier was only available for 10 people and I was one of them. I understood when there were delays, when the last update went out to everyone in July and I got nothing in August or September. I understood when I reached out and heard that some unexpected things had come up and they’d let me know once it was ready (and they didn’t).
I feel like the disappointment in the oversized custom d20 overshadows the 7 piece custom dice set. The additional four month wait on the custom, the fact that I didn’t even get the opportunity to pay for the oversized d20, that it came looking like it did…it’s just such a disappointment and I feel like it was a waste of money. Money that I could really use right now.
I could have paid $55 and gotten one nice set as a gift to a friend. I could have paid $100 to get the set and the oversized d20 for her. Instead I paid $345 for the $55 kickstarter dice, the $45 oversized d20 kickstarter die, and $245 for my custom dice set (and free oversized d20). It honestly doesn’t seem worth it.
Maybe my feelings will change. Maybe I can grab some paint (a color that might match the paint used on the numbers for the custom 7 set) and fill in the numbers myself, see if that makes a difference. If I can find the right kind of paint.
Anyway - just had a meltdown explaining it to L and I’m very emotional about it all at the moment. So there’s that. I don’t know if I’ll reach out to the creator. And if I do I don’t know what I’ll say.
I’m just sad and disappointed and grumpy now.
