INCREDIBLY hard question bc I am and have always been an Animal Guy and there are so many animals I love but I think above everything I'm a horse girl. literally had a category 5000 horse girl moment on the bus yesterday.
🐉 - what’s your favorite mythical creature?
dragons, hands down. I've been obsessed with them for literally longer than I can remember. my taste in animals is literally just like, big thing (generally quadruped) that seems rideable.
🎄- what’s your favorite holiday?
hmmm probably christmas? purely for the decorations tbh. it's string lights, pine trees, baubles, & deer time of year and they are all things that I would like to decorate my house with all year round
📗 - what’s your favorite book?
idk if I could pick a favourite? I really love the eragon series and looking back I think they had a massive influence on me as a writer. pride and prejudice is THE jane austen book to me. I've been forcibly dunked back into my greek myth phase and I love the iliad a lot.
tbh I haven't read enough over the last few years to really feel like I can pick a favourite BUT apparently I was motivated enough to read the percy jackson series properly that I've discovered that I am no longer jared 19??? so hopefully I am actually able to Read now. also I bought one of the eragon sequel books & am super hyped to read it + the murtagh book when it comes out!! I really do have a lot of affection for that series and world

I'm gonna go ahead and assume that your wip tag game post (from *checks notes* November 27th? god help me) isn't necessarily current any more, but take this ask as an invitation to talk about/post a little snip of anything that still is a wip if you happen to feel like it!
gfkjlds I wasn't expecting things to have changed that much bc I have a terrible habit of going 'omg I want to write that' [dumping a few notes in a draft] 'wait I want to write something else'. I'm not a wip abandoner in the sense of never finishing anything, bc I'm still putting out the same amount of fic, & once I've actually started writing I tend not to abandon stuff, but I do leave a trail of ignored ideas in my wake ajhfklsdg.
but!! I have actually posted three things from that list since I posted it (tell me you love me, come back and haunt me (which became litany for a reunion), the one about jamie patching ben up, and the one which was a first sentence of zoe being woken up) & am working on a fourth for next fortnight (the post-phantom piper one). so!! call that progress ig
you know what I'm going to talk about the one I had down as [two in 6b on a mission in 1745 where he bumps into jamie;. apparently I am so so so addicted to rotating post-war games fics. they're spilling out of my pockets. & honestly we might have talked about this one??
the idea was two being sent on some sort of mission in 6b that takes him to the highlands, and quite coincidentally bumping into jamie. and jamie recognises him, and figures out that something must be up, but he's not had enough of his memories bleed through to trust two, so he starts following him around more out of suspicion than anything. two's trying to complete his mission and get out of there as soon as possible because he REALLY doesn't want the pain and guilt of hanging around with jamie when he doesn't remember him at all. but obviously they end up having to work together, neither of them can really help it :'))
the way I've planned it out doesn't. exactly have a happy ending, to say the least. and I don't really want to spoil it here bc if I ever do write it, I think it'd be a gut punch. so just know that it may or may not be coming :^)
ALSO speaking of post-war games fics I do want to share this little plotting snippet from a different document (the one for the sequel to old ghost's waltz), bc I am so insane about it but haven't actually plucked up the courage to start writing this fic yet. so hey, here's a glimpse of the way I plan my fics ig!!
[mairead] sits down and says she might feel better if she knew more about what had happened; she asks kirsty to tell her about the doctor, and then asks if jamie is in love with him, with the air of already knowing the answer is yes; kirsty is hesitant to throw jamie under the bus by saying yes outright, so she asks 'how did ye know?'; mairead says that soon after jamie came back from the war, she had given him her wedding ring, saying he would have more use for it than her, and that jamie had seemed very emotional about it and had said he would give it to the person he loved; she looks kirsty dead in the eye and says 'and I've never seen you wear it'; kirsty just nods, and then says mairead seems very calm about it; mairead scoffs and says it wasn't entirely unexpected; she pauses, then lets out a shaky laugh and says 'the fact that he's a faery man was a surprise, though'
like god I NEED to write mairead and kirsty having a very emotionally charged and stilted conversation about jamie having left them behind. I've been chewing over this one for ages now
actually this made me realise that I only have one more section left to plot out for this fic and then I'll be out of excuses for not writing it aghfsdld.

Currently reading? Haven't been reading much other than fic recently, but I am in the middle of Doctor Who and Race (tho it's been a hot minute since I went back to it oops) and Because Internet: Understanding the New Rules of Language by Gretchen McCulloch. I also started Randall Munroe's How To: Absurd Scientific Advice for Common Real-World Problems, but I put it down somewhere and I'm not quite sure where it went. Which sucks bc it was really fun for at least the first ten pages lol
Currently watching? Not really watching anything rn, ngl. I rewatched good omens a few days ago, but that's about it.
Currently obsessed with? Baldur's gate 3! I played 80 hours in the first week after I got it (still only in act 1 bc I'm kind of a completionist, so I've been going through every container and exploring every inch of the map. Which means that it takes me a ridiculously long time, but also means that I already have almost 20k gold and I haven't even sold any magic items yet. So imo it works lol). There's a tiefling companion who could snap me in half over her knee and I would thank her, and I love her so so much omg. There's also an elf who's a catty bitch who lives for drama whom I also adore.

I was tagged by @galacticlamps to share the titles of my current unpublished WIPs, so thank you friend!! I love stuff like this, and it’ll also be useful to get my WIPs in order, I think. I’ll split them up by fandom for the sake of clarity, since I currently have WIPs for Doctor Who, DS9, Voyager, and the video game Final Fantasy XII.
Doctor Who
A Duchess and a Sailor Walked Into a Bar - A Ben/Polly fic which follows their relationship from their childhood, to meeting each other and the Doctor, to departing the TARDIS. If you’ve read my fic ‘A Tale of Two Soldiers’, it’s got the same format, with one half of each chapter being Polly’s POV and the other half being Ben’s. It’s pretty bare bones at the moment (I’ve only written Polly’s POV for the first chapter), and I haven’t worked on it since January, but I’m sure I’ll get back into it when I’m more in the mood for writing Doctor Who fic again.
Five Times Ben and Polly Got Married (and the One Time They Didn’t) - Does what it says on the tin, really. It’s part of my AU where all of the Second Doctor’s companions travel in the TARDIS at once, and it’s pretty light and fluffy. Again, I’ve only made a start on the first chapter, so it may be a while before it sees the light of day.
Here Falls the Shadow - This is the first fic in the series I want to write about Sarah-Jane and Mike Yates solving extra-terrestrial mysteries after they’ve finished adventuring with the Doctor. It involves haunted house shenanigans and is lowkey inspired by Charlotte Perkins-Gilman’s short story ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’, but the creepy thing in the wall is an alien actually. I’ve written a chapter and a half for this one, and it’s probably the Doctor Who WIP I’m most likely to finish.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
A Thousand Summers - It’s post-canon Siskoshir baybee!! Well, kind of - I headcanon that Benjamin is away for ten years following his disappearance at the end of ‘What You Leave Behind’, and this fic follows what Julian gets up to in those ten years. There’s post-canon Bajor, Sisko family feels, and, like most of my DS9 fics, plenty of angst to go around. It’s a multi-chapter fic, but it’s more a collection of one shots than a linked narrative. I’ve written two of the stories already, and I’m honestly very tempted to post the first one soon. I think I’ll try and finish one of my already active multi-chapter WIPs first, though.
Living in the Arms of Freedom - So this is an AU where Sisko, Jadzia, Julian, and Miles all left Starfleet pre-canon for Angst reasons and became a crew of space pirates instead. They’ll get involved with the plot of main canon eventually, and they’ll meet the non-Starfleet characters too. I’ve written some of the first chapter of this one, but I’m putting in a pin in it because I like the idea so much that I kind of want to turn it into a work of original fiction instead? I’m not sure yet, so bear with.
Untitled Siskoshir Kid Fic - Once again, it does what it says on the tin (although I’m sure it’ll have a proper name eventually). I’m actually four chapters deep into this one, and I’ve shared the first chapter on the Siskoshir Discord server, but I’m very hesitant to post it publicly just because I don’t want the subject matter to be misconstrued or misinterpreted. But if enough people show interest, I may post it - you never know.
Star Trek: Voyager
The Storm Inside - Because I am apparently doomed to rot in rarepair hell, I was possessed to write a fic for B’Elanna/Kes, and this is it. Again, I’ve only made a start on the first chapter (I’m starting to notice a theme here), but this is basically a fic where these two lovely lesbians bond over their mutual uncontrollable rage and fall in love <3
Final Fantasy XII
Fear Not the Darkness You Must Walk - Quite simply, this is my take on a novelisation of the game. It’s been in the works since about 2016?? I think?? Well, there have been kind of two versions of it, the old version and the new revised one - the first version I wrote when I was a teenager and actually posted on FF.Net, and it was... not good. So the version I’m working on now is Vastly Improved, if I do say so myself, but also distinctly unfinished. I’ve written ten chapters and a prologue, so that must count for something, right?
(Also, I don’t really post about Final Fantasy at all on this blog, but I have a sideblog dedicated to it @sky-pirate-penelo, so take a peek if you want to see some good FFXII meme content)

every time someone asks for a weird fact in one of these I immediately forget every fact I know
ok here's a weird one. in classical greek/roman times there was a plant called silphium, which might have been some kind of fennel, & was used as (amongst other things) a contraceptive and aphrodisiac. it grew around cyrene in northern africa, & was so important to their economy that it was depicted on their coins:
it ended up going extinct, possibly due to overharvesting. & supposedly the last-known stalk was given to/bought by nero. absolutely wild.
(I first heard about this in the podcast queer as fact, which is super good & everyone should go listen to it <3)

hmm idk!! I'm a pretty sentimental person when it comes to my things so I've got a lot of stuff I'm attached to. couple things off the top of my head though - I've got a folder full of tickets, pamphlets, etc from places I've been, as well as art & some other stuff @ettelwenailinon and @vimbry have given me <33, snufkin necklace that matches @ettelwenailinon's moomin one, & a copy of my honours thesis that my grampa bound as a book for me. also probably the two most important books of my childhood, which were the ancient world book (goes through neolithic stuff & then ancient greece, rome, and egypt, I used to read it/have it read to me over and over again) and the guide to prehistoric life (walking with monsters/dinosaurs/beasts tie-in encyclopedia, it's SO beat up because again I read it so much)
🦖 Favorite extinct animal?
following on from that haha. I definitely have strong opinions on extinct animals but picking a favourite is. oughfdkj. my fave as a kid was always triceratops. but now I like. cycle through creatures so regularly?? I LOVE chalicotheriums they're so weird. & I'm a sucker for rhinos so wooly rhinos and also paraceratherium. iguanadon/muttaburrasaurus etc etc as well, it's so unfair that I can't ride them like a giant horse. yutyrannus for being a giant fluff. baryonyx, or any spinosaurid really. therizinosaurus because the giant claws are so wild. mosasaurs and liopleuradon because they're so?? shape??? machrauchenia because again they're so shape.
honestly anything that evokes 'I wanna ride that beast' emotions in me. I was a horse kid I was a dinosaur kid I was a dragon kid & I think at the end of the day all I want is to ride around on a large animal that could definitely kill me

8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
(this fandom is so small that I don't want to sound like I'm vagueblogging or @-ing someone or anything so I'm just gonna preface this by saying this also goes for plenty of licensed media)
oh man ok. at risk of sounding like a total killjoy who takes everything too seriously & looks too much into stuff. I'm pretty sensitive about. primitivism in the way jamie gets portrayed?? is the best way I can think to describe it?? anything that implies that where & when he comes from means that he's inherently less intelligent, or equates his lack of knowledge on some things with him being stupid. can't stand him being reduced to dumb guy who hits stuff. idiot who has no critical thinking skills or reasoning.
and like, I get that it's a fairly common assumption, the idea that people from the past weren't as smart because they didn't know as much (even setting aside the devaluing of /different/ ways of knowing & understanding) - but, say, victoria never gets this treatment. despite also being from the past. which then leads you to think, hey, why would people make that assumption about jamie and not about victoria?
and then you get to a bunch of ideas which have been kicking around since. before jamie's time, real-world-historically speaking. which depict the highlands as savage, as populated by 'wild' people, by - well - 'primitives'. speakers of a primitive language. violent, at worst, strong, at best, but never intelligent. & this is all starting to sound a lot like the ideas that buttress colonialism and biological determinism, isn't it?
idk. this is a silly 60s family tv show & a very very small online fandom. it's kind of not that deep. but any time jamie gets written off as being inherently stupid (often /because/ of where he comes from), and any time that idea is the foundation of a joke, it rubs me the wrong way, and this is why.
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
gfdhkjsg once again this is a v small fandom so 'so many people' is kinda like..... 2 people max probably. & also I've been sort of keeping more or less to myself for a couple years now in terms of actually discussing thoughts & headcanons (except you obviously and also @ettelwenailinon who is always right about everything despite not being super active in dr who fandom on tumblr anymore <3)
gonna go with shipping jamie and victoria tbh. absolutely no hate if you do bc I can definitely see where it comes from in canon/behind the scenes stuff but it is just,,, not for me at all, and so antithecal to how I write/interpret their characters.
23. ship you've unwillingly come around to
tenrose?? weirdly?? not that I'd say I actively ship it (there is one (1) tenrose fic in my ao3 bookmarks but it's really there bc it's a pretty charming magical realism au and the voices of all the characters are just so spot on rather than bc I ever crave reading about the ship) but. when I got into dr who in 2013 there felt like there was a pretty solid line between rtd fans and moffat fans. & I have always vibed with moffat's era more (neither of them are above criticism obviously, the scifi fairytale aesthetic/tone of moffat's era is just so so so so tailor-made for me personally).
and for some reason tenrose and elevenriver were kind of. bundled into that opposition?? not sure if that was just in my head or something other people noticed/experienced but I felt like if you were a moffat fan you had to ship elevenriver & if you were an rtd fan you had to ship tenrose, and they were like. rivals. (yes I did try very half-heartedly to enjoy elevenriver. no I never succeeded). so I always had this thing of like, I don't like ten, I don't like tenrose.
like I said I still don't actively ship it, I don't get any warm fuzzy feelings from their relationship, but I did go back into rtd's era looking to actively enjoy stuff (after being tired of really not enjoying uh. recent seasons ajhksglf) and found that I didn't hate the concept of tenrose as much as I used to. I genuinely believed they liked each other, I felt the hubris of their relationship worked and built well narratively. never thought that ship would get a redemption arc in my head but I've definitely gained more appreciation for its role in the narrative.

(My wallpaper art is Legendary by retromortis on deviantart). It's been my phone wallpaper for like 7 years or something; I use it on every phone I have.
the song is Mojave Song by Miracle of Sound, which is a banger about Fallout New Vegas bc this game has consumed my life. I love this artist so much; he makes music in a huge variety of styles, so no matter what music you like, he's probably done a song you'll love.
I don't really have photos of celebrities that aren't from tv shows or movies they're in, so the most recent one I have is Dev Patel as the Green Knight. This movie is gorgeous as hell (just like dev patel fhdsjfshjd), though this photo was actually from a quotes compilation post, not a post specifically about the movie.

Last song listened to: A Forest by Clan of Xymox (a cover of The Cure's song which I also like but the instruments on this one are so cool)
Currently reading: Evicted by Matthew Desmond (the audiobook) and Unmasking Autism by Devon Price, PhD! I also started The Autobiography of F.B.I. Special Agent Dale Cooper a few months ago and would be done by now except that I keep forgetting it exists, and I haven't yet finished Sacred and Terrible Air (Group Ibex translation of course) but I think there's three books on my shelf I'm more excited to read before I get back to that.
Currently watching: I started watching Gravity Falls recently and I do intend to continue at some point because a large number of my friends speak very highly of it, but I got tired of all the romance and the no-lasting-effects style comedy, so I switched to watching movies off my To Watch spreadsheet; my goal is to get through nine by the end of October so that when I go see the FNAF movie I can include it in a ten-slide movie opinions Instagram post without much delay.
Currently obsessed with: Nothing very intensely at the moment... I've still got Portal on my mind, and FNAF has been resurfacing again, but I'm generally in a "checking the accumulated little projects off the to-do list" period, thinking most about the overall organization of my life. I'm incorporating more exercise into my schedule and there's lots of things there which are interesting mostly just because they're new.
