4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw

Dwarves and Vikings and everything medieval in armour. I love Regency era but draw it so rarely especially because the outfits are grand, but difficult. And, don't get me started with backgrounds and perspective. There is always a challenge to be found :D0

21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways

I adore simplistic styles or ones that work with no outline. Some examples that you can find online are: togamin211, secondlina, slingaillustration or max.hillerzeder (And, actually I am really into abstract art like Rothko)

WHAT ARE YOU WRITING

Boring, miserable little office worker James Gabriel D’angelo Jr. lives a boring, miserable little life as a member of upper middle management at a tech company office. He’s got no one to talk to, sparing the free-loaders on his shoulders, and he’s fine with that. Well, he’s fine with it until he meets Buddy, from the rival tech company downstairs, and keeps meeting them for weekly coffee. Gabriel never paid much mind to the idea that there’s a big scoreboard above his head telling him that he’s been bad for his entire life, despite Aziraphale’s nagging. But he wants to be good for Buddy…How good do you have to be to deserve the love of someone else? And is that even something you can measure? Well, Aziraphale and Crowley have to measure it…They are his shoulder angel and demon, after all.

I’m writing a crackfic I came up with/began plotting out in 2019; the working title is Gabe’s Shoulders LOL.

Basically I wanted to write a fic that is a character exploration of Gabriel’s horrible little psyche. Also a fic wherein Crowley and Aziraphale are trying to sway him to one side or the other as pseudo parental figures like they did with Warlock as his shoulder demon and angel, respectively.

This was also around the time I got into Ineffable Bureaucracy so it found its way in there with the two as workers at rival tech companies who meet for coffee weekly in the coffee shop across the street. Fun fact because I don’t know where else to put this but I wanted to include it, Beez’s human name was previously Beatriz before s2 where I decided they HAD to be Buddy.

It's weird to me just how well this crackfic to me wound up working within the framework of season two LOL.

I even had a weird bit where importance was placed on Gabriel’s name. He was pissed that people kept calling him Gabe even though he doesn’t go by it, but now that there’s the whole “Jim” thing its WAY better. Of course, I guess that means I should probably call it “Jim’s Shoulders” but I’ve been calling its Gabe’s Shoulders for so long…

Oh well, I’m DEEPLY endeared to this fic. I published a sneak peak of it for Ineffable Bureaucracy week a while back!

Maybe, one day, I’ll finish it up!

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

Aaah it's so difficult to put it into words. I generally really like characters who are "normal" and achieve everything because of their dreams, motivation and hard work and Gabe is literally "just some guy", he's our best look into Shuriki era Avalor and literally, his whole story and character development could have not happened if not for one decision made not even by him, that we didn't even see in the show (him being made Elena's guard) and then if he didn't PUT HIS WHOLE HEART INTO IT!!!

And it's just that, I love how he changed throughout the show, how we see more sides of him and outside of that first promotion, everything that happens to him he has to work for (and tbf he probably had to do something meaningful to become Elena's guard too). He has big ambitions and a big heart which is literally the best combination.

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

Hmm maybe how he never gives up? He might not believe in himself, he might be beaten or humiliated, it might seem hopeless, but he'll always stand up and fight for what he believes in.

And my second favourite thing is definitely how much he loves his friends and family <3

14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.

Guard uniforms

Zbbdhzhs okay no, I have this one half-serious headcanon that Gabe is actually very knowledgeable in fashion, he just always wears the uniform because it's just the most comfortable given that he's almost always on duty when we see him. And it would probably be easier if I knew anything about fashion

But okay I tried putting together a little visualization!

So I definitely think that Gabe's personal style is definitely very simple and as much as he cares about looking well put together, he doesn't care all that much about what he wears, so what he has in To Queen or not to Queen I think is actually pretty realistic. But if I was to design him a casual outfit I'd say that he takes a lot of inspiration from Antonio Agama, since he's such a great fan of his, so he definitely goes for the "adventurer" vibes. So high boots with tucked in pants, a simple shirt with rolled up sleeves, except I'd give him a neckline more similar to Naomi's and an ascot, like Mateo's except maybe tied more loosely (he bonds with Mateo by going ascot shopping together.) As for colors I'd put him in warm, earthy tones - browns, beige, red, maybe some khaki, and navy for more elegant occasions (yes, because of his uniform)

And I know that's not what the question was about but I also started thinking about his style in the sense of modern fashion.

I think he'd still dress in a kind of military-but-casual style, he wants his clothes to be practical first and foremost. I allowed myself to give him a bit more accessories, since again, he's not flashy but a watch is just a useful thing to have. The paracord bracelet I imagine was a gift from some friend who thought that he should accessorize more XD and he wears it because hey, you never know when you might need a piece of rope. Also Gabe strikes me as the type to always be warm, so it's t-shirts for him for the majority of the year, but he'd look great in a biker jacket, you can't convince me otherwise. (Bonus not included: given how big of a fan of Antonio Agama, he definitely owned an Indiana Jones type of hat at some point and thought it made him look so cool. He still wears it sometimes when he's out of town with his closest friends and it kind of grew into an iconic part of his wardrobe between them.)

18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?

His friendship with Elena! Cause really, it's so diverse, since it's so full of contradictions and they're basically opposites in many aspects, but through all of this they just care for each other so much and it's just- A

20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?

I'll be sharing my "Gabe and Rico are friends" propaganda until the day I die, I fully believe they are friends and in fact have been almost since the beginning of Gabe's time in the guard (okay, so maybe they weren't that close pre The Curse of El Guapo, but I still think they were at least work friends and definitely became closer with time, you can pry their friendship from my cold dead fingers)

9. What are your file name conventions

Oh, that is a good one! I always name my files "YMD" (20221115, for example) so I have them in chronological order. Sometimes I add a suffix, like ship name or fandom, to know without preview pictures what the file is about.

30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated

Answered already, but I also think my watercolour works were never really seen on tumblr🤭

Since Gabe isn’t going to take over that Roberto’s bakery, what do you think will happen to it when Roberto dies/retires?

There are countless possibilities, honestly.

Blanca also runs the bakery, so if Roberto God forbid dies first, she can take over it.

As Gabe gets older, he might start showing more interest in the bakery in order to uphold his family’s legacy.

Gabe might have children, and they can take over the bakery.

The bakery might just get closed after Blanca and Roberto’s death.

Which option am I sticking with? I want Roberto and Blanca to have a long happy life, and Gabe to have kids, so I believe the Núñez and Son bakery continues to live on for a long time. Maybe it wouldn’t be a public bakery anymore with Gabe’s parents’ death, but I like the idea that Gabe keeps the memory of his parents alive by telling his kids, or rather grandkids, about how important the bakery has been to their family, especially since I headcanon Roberto has inherited it from his father.

Gabe is not a baker. But he’s a traditional and family man, and as much as I don’t think the bakery will be active forever, I’m convinced that it won’t be forgotten for several generations further.

Gabe who absolutely expects to hate Cosette and is very uncomfortable with his dad having a girlfriend his age, but then Gaston says something particularly cruel to him and Cosette shuts it down so fast, tells Gaston that if he ever says or does anything the slightest bit mean/abusive to Gabe again, she's done and gone

Gabe would be so thrown off by that but Cosette just stays so protective of him (she also has her own tiny hidden cottage and she'd give Gabe a key and tell him to never bring anyone else, but it's always there if he needs a safe place to go to)

Gabriel's mouth opened on command, tongue out ( BUT WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?? ) before his sense of taste is bursting with SWEET as the white fluff settled on his tongue and in his mouth before he eventually closed his mouth.

Now, it wasn't meat or blood, but it wasn't bad, so the Werecat could enjoy it for what it was. HOWEVER, it did make his stomach growl a bit. He'd have to find something to actually eat soon...
