I do feel like making a big deal out of the fact that I'll be ending my MAX subscription over this. I never use my Twitter but I might just spend some time over there. As well as contacting MAX. Given that streaming companies seem to be little more than legal money laundering operations and ways to get tax breaks, I'm sure it won't make any difference. They don't give a shit about viewer or creative media, but I xan still let them k ow why they won't get any more of my money.

Each book of Infinity Train is always made in response/parallel to the last one in some way. So I imagine for book 5 being about Amelia’s journey and everything it’d be like.
Book 4: HOLD ON to the one you love.
Book 5: LET GO of the one you love.

There is a graph going around Twitter about WBD's falling stock prices. If you go back a year, their stock prices have been in freefall the whole time save for a bump when the SAG strike ended. WBD/Max has no business being a streaming service, and they just keep failing.
Disney had a very bad 2023: massive bombs (movie and TV) with the MCU, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and attempts to emulate classic Disney fare. IPs just don't have a strength anymore, and bloated budgets exasperate the problem. Looking at WBD, embarrassing (and historically large) bombs with the DCEU, with Aquaman of all things being their biggest success (buoyed by Jason Momoa, not the IP). WBD had one big success, Barbie, and that was from Greta Gerwig, Margot Robbie, et al, who respected the IP instead of slapping the IP on any ole product and demanding money.
Remember Zaslav happily endorsed The Flash and put all the resources behind it just before it became a comedy show watching it bomb? He simply does not know what he's doing, even playing the numbers game and not caring about the artistic product. There were no projections showing The Flash would do any better than it did, but WBD pumped in an obscene marketing budget to not improve the outcome. And now he's trying to emulate Disney's run, perhaps trying to outdo it! Push massive amounts of money behind an IP that will severely underperform (Harry Potter, really?) and ignore the lessons of their biggest successes. If Barbie had been a lazy toy commercial, it would've bombed.
WBD has hit critical mass with their streaming subscriber numbers. They aren't going to have any massive influx of new subscribers, and they need to focus on subscriber retention and keeping their brand in good standing. Axing a flagship show that would be much cheaper to produce than any of these IP money pits is not good business. Just a few weeks ago, the studios were whining that no one wanted to pitch ideas to them. They feel entitled to all the creatives' work without treating them, or their user base, with any respect.
WBD has a show that is critically acclaimed, has streaming demand numbers that beat Star Wars and the MCU, has a massive fanbase, can lure thousands to conventions, has fans who will happily buy merch and will buy out unofficial merch (see: Target oranges mugs or the Old Navy oranges shirt), fans that make up the bulk of their social media interactions, fans that will make pilgrimages to stupid billboards, etc, and they toss it away to pump money into IPs, money that they will never make back.

All those missing scenes are destroying me. I'll fess up I was one of those people who grumbled a bit that Ed/Stede's relationship just wasn't doing it for me like it did in S1, it just felt like there was too much missing, not enough of those short adorable wholesome romantic moments full of little things that mean so much and show so much without even telling... I just couldn't understand at first, S1 proved the writers knew what they were doing, it was much too good to be just a fluke, an accidental success.
When the news about the slashed budget came out, the answer became clear, and those missing scenes just keep confirming it. We LITERALLY got robbed. We had amazing, dedicated writers who knew their shit and still got it, equally amazing and dedicated cast who just wanted to do their best, and they weren't allowed to deliver the story they wanted to deliver because of greedy clueless fucking top management.

"You know how hard it is to find someone doing something original out here? It's impossible, man."
I'm just so fucking sad. This was such a gorgeous, wildly inventive show -- the only show in a long time that I actually gave a shit about, that made me feel art of this scale was still possible, that thawed my fucking glacial heart, that brought me back here to seek community to rejoice in it and in the fucking enormous universe of fanworks it spawned, that moved me toward making art again.

Yeah yeah yeah it's just a TV show but I've had this whole series of hurts (physical and emotional) and disappointments lately, and my creative spirit was fucking suffering, and I just wanted this thing to happen, that seemed likely to happen, to resolve all the unresolved threads, to have something fun to look forward to. Idk. Fucking sucks

Not so gentle reminder that blaming writers, crew members, and cast is EXACTLY what the hbo max studio execs want. Remember the solidarity we held with writers and actors?? That doesn't stop just because the strikes are over!
if you want to blame someone for canceling the gay pirate show, blame the execs. Fuck them

I am so upset by the cancellation of our flag means death but I'm not surprised. We're talking about a company that canceled Westworld in its last season and then paid out the actors contracts because it was cheaper than making the season of television.
