"Who is he?" Qiqi asks, her hands scrunching the fabric of the sheets as she peers over the edge of the patient's bed.
"His name is Dainsleif." Baizhu says as he wipes his hands off on his pants, sighing as he adjusts his glasses. "Other than that, I am not sure. But for now, he is our patient, and we will treat him as such, okay, dear?"
"Okay." Qiqi nods quietly, still peering at the sleeping blond man's face.
"Well, now that that's settled, I believe it is time for bed. Come, Qiqi." The doctor slowly pads across the floor, making an effort to muffle the creak of wooden floor boards as he reaches for the door handle. As he slowly twists the knob, he pauses, turning around once more. "Qiqi?" He asks.
Qiqi still stands at Dain's bedside, watching the man with curious eyes. When Baizhu reapproaches her side, she let go of the bed sheets, settling back onto her heels.
Baizhu raises a silent eyebrow at her, and Qiqi thinks on her words for a few moments. "...We are... similar." She points to the blue veins pulsing on his corrupted arm, struggling to find the words to fully explain it. "Not dead, not alive. Not human, not monster. He is like Qiqi. Like me."
Baizhu's face softens, although he only grasps an inkling of what she's saying. "Do you mean his abyssal energy?" He asks, kneeling down beside her.
Qiqi shakes her head. "...Abyss?" She thinks about it, then shakes her head again. "No. He is not bad, like the Abyss. He... glows, like stars." She turns back to look at Dain, then back to Baizhu. "...Dr. Baizhu, does he like coconut milk?"
Baizhu blinks.
Then he laughs, the sound soft and airy against the quiet of the creak of the floor and their patient's tired breathing. "I don't know, dear." He says, gently taking Qiqi's hand. "But you can ask him when he wakes up, okay? I'm sure he'd appreciate it."
"Hmm... Okay." Qiqi nods, and diligently follows Baizhu out, but not before dutifully tucking in the edges of the sheets.

The original calamity had been overturned, yet the island in the sky set the earth to burn. Chalk pursues gold, in this time inopportune, the eclipse is swallowed by the crimson moon. The future must atone for bygone mistakes, as the bond familiar falters and breaks— of the same blood, elders and the youth... Such is the cycle of the world, in truth. Dain, what is that strand of blonde hair to you? Someone you must kill? Or the object of your penitence?

Arlecchino's whole deal is unbelievable
Arlecchino: Huh I wonder what's causing my weird powers? I can't really worry about that right now tho, I've gotta become King and then kill my "Mother".
*Kills Clervie and "Mother"*
Arlecchino: Huh I wonder why I was able to defeat a Fatui Harbinger when I'm like 17 or so? I can't really worry about that right now tho, I've gotta be in jail and become a Harbinger.
*Is in jail for a while and becomes a Harbinger*
Arlecchino: Huh I wonder why I am-
Pierro: Hey what's up hello, anyways you're descended from the Crimson Moon Dynasty of Khaenri'ah. I'm sure that this is a lot for you to take in so-
Arlecchino: Ok.
Pierro: ...You're just cool with that?
Arlecchino: IDK maybe? I can't really worry about that at the moment, I'm a father now. This orphanage full of children I love (who also are child soldiers and are not allowed to leave or else I'll execute them except maybe now I'm just gonna wipe their memories IDK I'm morally complex) isn't gonna run itself.
*Runs the orphanage/spy recruitment initiative*
Me, the fucking player: WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU ARE KHAENRI'AN? WHY WASN'T THIS BROUGHT UP IN YOUR FUCKING QUEST?? OR ANYTHING ELSE????
Arlecchino, talking to me through my phone: I honestly don't know why you care, I'm too busy to give a shit. Anyways, I'm gonna go fight fate itself I guess. I'm sure that I don't share any thematic parallels with any other Khaenri'an characters (particularly as it relates to acting and family angst) and that I haven't made the idea of 'curses' on Khaenri'ans and what they entail even more complicated than they already were. See ya.

Okay, so I just finished reading Fourth Wing and Iron Flame and someone needs to explain something to me because either I'm stupid and missed it or there's a plot hole.
We know Violet lived at Basgiath for years because her mom was stationed there. Lived there long enough that she's able to confidently tell Xaden that she's lived there longer than he has, to have extensively worked with Markham who lives and works in the archives there, and to have had Nolon mending her for years in the Healer's Quadrant.
And I know only riders and cadets are permitted in the Riders Quadrant so obviously she wouldn't be going there. But we also know the riders go out into other parts of the college all the time?? The riders use the same healers and infirmary as everyone else in the college (the same infirmary Violet has been using for years while living there before entering the riders quadrant) and Violet spends a shit ton of time in both books in the Archives as a rider.
What I don't understand, is how Violet never crossed paths with any of the marked ones? Or Dain in his first year? You're telling me that after Dain bonded and was able to have his pick of the chores and he didn't choose the Archive rotation like Violet did in Fourth Wing just because he knew she was always in the Archives? Or something in the Healer's Quadrant just so his overprotective ass could always know when she was injured? Same with marked ones, none of them ever had chore duties outside of the rider's quadrant?
The only explanation I can come up with that is that they weren't permitted to have chores outside of the riders quadrant because of Violet but I don't know how her mom would've been able to swing that because it feels like she'd be overstepping some how.
It also doesn't explain how out of all the third and second year marked cadets, none of them happened to be injured the same time she was? Or when they were permitted to leave the college on weekends they never came across each other in that town I forget the name of that they're allowed to visit on weekends when they're second years. Or even if they weren't permitted to work in the Archives, they would've still been allowed to go there because Violet does many times in Iron Flame and it's not because she's special, rider's are allowed to check books out of the Archives same as their own library.
Anyway, I feel like I missed something and it's bothering the hell out of me.
