evidence for Shadow=Greed (contains manga spoilers for FSA)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
rebellious, plans to destroy his creator
Tumblr media Tumblr media
heroic sacrifice to defeat bad guy to save his friends
AAAHHHHH 👀 he does be giving off some greed vibes nglll
And then there's the whole thing with Ling and Greed you know, and I think Shadow would fit that aspect better, especially if Ling was a Link
And I have to say, I agree with Twili that the alkahestry seems like it'd fit the Sheikah, soooo, Link,,,as a Sheikah prince? If you took hw Link let's say and had Sheik as Lan fan and Impa as Fu 👀 I just wanna make Link a sheikah prince cus I think it'd be cool. Seems like it could work

Hi! I hope you don't mind me asking a question about your CAC AU no longer being LU. Will you be changing anything about the characters that have been compressed? Ex: Four being both Minish Cap, Four Swords, and Four Swords Adventures Link. I'd also like to know if anything else significant is changing with the story, but that's a pretty broad ask 😅
Actually, second question that's only sorta related and that you may have answered in the past but I don't remember (sorry if that's the case ;-;) is the FSA manga canon? Specifically Shadow Link being like, an actual character.
Looking forward to seeing more of our favorite cryptids, esp now that you have more creative freedom <3
Thank you for asking! I think I’m gonna keep the Links that I have, simply because I have so much already written for them and unmerging them would wreak havoc on my storylines. I JUST figured out Four, I don’t want to change them haha!
As far as story changes, I don’t think there’s much I can tell you because I haven’t really said a lot about what the actual story is. I have my little comics, but they’re honestly just little oneshots to explore the characters’ interactions. Salt and Sea, for example, my comic focused on Wind and Legend, isn’t necessarily canon and doesn’t take place within any specific plot. My Sky and Time comic is more plot-relevant but… Okay so I got a little impatient with that one. The Sky and Time comic is the God Reveal comic, and the God Reveal should take place in a story line that I’ve been calling “Grounded.” But this version happens outside of Grounded, for the sake of not spoiling it. But like… the interaction will be mostly the same. It’s hard to explain.
Some of the big arcs that I have planned are: I am Sky (which functions as a prologue to the Cryptid au), Grounded (which is my largest storyline BY FAR, containing the God Reveal, Ravio, Four Splits Reveal, and MUCH MORE), one that just the title of is a spoiler, but it contains the curse reveal (among other things. Shadow. Legend of the Godkiller. Exciting stuff, I think). Some more miscellaneous ideas that I have yet to give names to, nor organize. And then the au actually has an epilogue that’s centered around Time, which… has made me cry when I planned it. But. You know. Spoilers.
I don’t think I can properly express just how BIG this story is. I feel overwhelmed by it, sometimes. I can’t quite put it into words yet, but there will be fics at some point. More comics. And more lore dumps!
I actually have answered a question about the FSA manga and Shadow, but that was a long time ago and I don’t expect you to read through my millions of posts. But yes! Shadow is a real character in the Cryptid au! I’ve been pretty tight lipped about it since it’s kind of… later on in the story. I’m trying SO HARD not to spoil anything haha!

FSR Rambles 11 big brain moments
Tumblr media
Immediately going from Gannon's rant we wake up...SOMEWHERE.
That iconic triforce symbol glows on Shadow Link's hand.
Uh oh.
Ganondorf rants to himself smth he says during the Twilight Princess manga.
Tumblr media
Hello Ganondorf! :D
Alright let's dissect the shit Ganondorf says real quick.
Panel 1: He's talking about Link, obviously. Who unlike Ganondorf and Zelda (Sometimes...Twilight Princess Zelda outright calls OOT Zelda herself/her so...) doesn't/never seems to remember their endless reincarnation....Which I have some THOUGHTS ON WHY but we might get to that when it's more relevant. Just keep it in your back pocket that Link never remembers "His" previous adventures.
Ganondorf's the same Ganondorf from OOT in Akira's manga series, we dunno how much FSR Zelda currently knows about her endless reincarnation because she has the soul of Hylia in her,
Panel 2: Shadow Link has never seen Ganondorf in his human form. That's established with his lines of confusion. He clearly RECONIZES him either through his presence or voice though.
Panel 3: Ganondorf ignores Shadow's question to keep rambling.
"I even thought...Two can play the split ourselves in pieces game..."
He's clearly referencing the FIRST time a Link used the four sword, as there's a previous hero of the Four Sword mentioned at the start of the FS Manga. (That's my interpretation since there's two different four swords games, SOME people think he meant the Minish Cap Link but...I disagree strongly with that shit ngl and I think the ONLY reason that idea exists is because we never got a manga for the first Four Swords game but the SEQUEL for whatever reason...? As minish cap Link was a child when he went on his journey and looked NOTHING like the OOT style adult hero we saw in the "Flashback/story" scene in FS. I'm like 99% sure it was referencing the hero from the FIRST Four Swords game because the four swords manga we HAVE is based on Four Swords Adventures from what I can tell?)
Either way, in FSR he's refencing THAT Link as the reason why he...split himself in pieces.
"This game of ours gets boring after awhile...We have to make new rules...invite new players, mix things up..."
So, this is why he used Vaati. Vaati was the "New player"
Technically an old player brought directly into the Triforce gang's bullshit as Vaati used to be a solo villain from what I understand removed from Gannon.
Shadow Link could ALSO be a part of these "New players" he's talking about.
Either way Gannon's view on the endless cycle has seemingly shifted to a "Game". A game he wants to win, obviously.
If you want a reason why he'd try taking this outlook: Dude's coping hard, he keeps losing. Looking at it like a childish game makes him retain SOME sanity he's shed after getting his ass kicked so many times. As he clearly shed a LOT of his humanity to become the pig form in the OG manga without ANY PROMTING Usually that's like, a second phase of the fight Something's different about Ganon in FSA compared to usual.
Panel 4:
Ganon muses he didn't think "A part of him" would play "Their" side.
He's obviously talking about Shadow Link at this point aiding Zelda and Link. But the dread of what Gannon's saying hasn't truly set in yet.
Panel 5:
So in Twilight Princess, Spoilers Gannon just like, straight kills himself when he feels he's losing. Man is a massive piss baby.
He does something similar here. "CAN'T KEEP ME IN A SWORD IF I END MYSELF HAHAHAHA" - Gannon.
But...There's still a part of Gannon around...As he passes the Triforce of power (Something he admits he cannot stand in Twilight Princess, if nothing else BECAUSE it ties him to Zelda and Link who have Wisdom and Courage respectively.)
So while not outright CONFORMING FSR Link and FSR Zelda HAVE the Triforce, it's heavily implied they do. Zelda at least, had it on her hand earlier in the comic. (With an outdated design of her haha but it still counts here. Haven't been any major ret cons as of rn in FSR and I'd mention any if they do come up hah)
Tumblr media
Ganon not so subtly references the conversation Vio and Shadow had about the Triforce where Shadow admitted he wanted it to make his wishes come true.
Tumblr media
Which just, with current context really puts into perspective that little desire of his.
Also, it's even FUNNIER that he says he wants to touch the Triforce...While being all over Vio. Who has a piece of the Triforce of courage.
Yes that was intentional and yes I was laughing my absolute ass off while drawing/writing those scenes...I was shaking that I couldn't mention that for so long lmfaooooooo.
He's a part of Gannon. Of course he wants the Triforce.
Shadow still looks like he's comprehending shit. I mean this is a LOT to take in. All this time he assumed he was NOTHING but Link's shadow. But NOW we know he's not only Link's Shadow, but a part of Gannon as well.
Tumblr media
Ganon congrats our little man.
He gets to wield the title of the Demon King AND the Triforce of power! :D HOW LUCKY...HE GOT TWO THINGS HE WANTED! :D
BEING THE KING AND THE TRIFORCE!!!
Oh...Shadow isn't a fan of that. Especially at Gannon's prospect that he should destroy Link.
Lines that are hilarious with this new context go brr:
Tumblr media
Haha- Well he IS A KING-
Tumblr media
Vio just look to your left.
Tumblr media
"I've done infinitely worse in past lives pal-"
Tumblr media
Literally this entire scene has new meaning with how VISERIALLY ANGRY he is at the prospect they just gotta do what they have to because "it's what we're supposed to do".
Shadow Link's behavior in general in current day in FSR is just, makes much more sense with the context he KNOWS he's a part of Gannon.
His desperate urge to be nice, seemingly TOO NICE?
Well, he's trying to reject the idea he has to destroy the heroes and wants to be helpful and good.
Tumblr media
Translation: "I don't have to be Gannon if you don't have to be Link"
Also smth you'll notice in the Gannon talks to Shadow pages: Shadow's eyes are red the whole time just like when was talking to Vaati.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shadow's ending state in FS was a form of torture and you can't convince me otherwise.
He's in misery.
Tumblr media
Fucked up thing to note: Shadow link feels he deserves to suffer.
We're not given his full thoughts on WHY but we can either assume because of his actions in the FSA manga OR because he's Gannon.
That's just sad.
Link's catatonic like usual.
Shadow likens Link's state to a corpse that's rotting which is, disturbing.
Unlike Gannon, he isn't getting any pleasure watching the Hero rot away mentally.
Tumblr media
Oof. Yeah. What good's the Triforce of power when you can't use it to save someone?
You'll notice Shadow defaults to waving to get people's attention. What else can he do?
Link notices and touches him.
Which again: We know from Shadow's brief breakdown in the temple this isn't something he did a lot.
We can venture to guess from these pages, Link was usually just, not there mentally a lot of the time to notice Shadow Link and he wasn't filling the gaps because Shadow couldn't talk, because Link went mute after awhile.
Either way Shadow cherishes the times where Link acknowledges him.
If you go back and read the pages where Shadow's talking about his time with Link the main thing he talks about is how LONELY he felt.
He doesn't actually talk about Link's behavior in a negative way per say...Mostly that HE was lonely.
Tumblr media
Like from the wording he isn't exactly BASHING Link for ignoring him, just expressing how it made him feel in the moment.
And from here we can see Shadow understands just how poorly Link was doing.
Tumblr media
He wants to hug him-
Shadow wants to be comforted and to comfort but can't do or get either.
Poor dude is suffering.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shadow dissects his feelings.
Vio's promise struck a cord with this dude for a lot of reasons, partially because Gannon as we know from Twilight Princess REALLY wanted Zelda to join him/another Triforce user to join him cobbled with Shadow Link himself loneliness and inability to trust his teammates led to Vio's promise of ruling the world basically made him explode with joy lol.
Gannon's literally always playing this "Game" alone. Shadow Link is lonely from his own experiences and from Gannon's. He actually doesn't MIND the idea they're all gonna be spending eternity together forever, he just doesn't wanna be locked in fighting them lmfao.
Art notes: Shadow's eyes look like Gannondorf's eyes in page 207 the "I want to be close to you Link" panel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zelda and Vio/Link have had a positive affect on Shadow Link as a person, so instead of 100% hating them like Gannondorf does he has a mixed bag of emotions towards them.
Another art note:
Page 208 Shadow's eyes look like the Malice eyeballs from BOTW/TOTK
Shadow Link interprets his own feelings as him wanting to be close to Zelda and Link/Vio due to his own loneliness. He's the new demon king and he doesn't want to further their fated connection through hatred alone.
Shadow's further thoughts on being Ganon and the affects it has on his behavior going forward are for sure going to be present so if something wasn't brought up here/expanded upon, it probs will later.
Something to note is Shadow's KNOWN he's a from of Gannon for 7 years and HASN'T Told any of the gang yet...Which is interesting.
Not like he could SAY that before and they've still only been separated for a day but still.
More art notes: The way they're structured in 208, is in the shape of the Triforce. Shadow on "Top" representing the Triforce of power, Zelda to the left representing wisdom and Link to the right representing courage.
It is interesting to note how Vio and Link are interchangeable in Shadow's mind at least in this instance...
From his further thoughts in 209 it's implied he's SPECICICALLY talking about Vio, but Link is still pictured...So Hm.
Tumblr media
So it bares repeating Vio booked it to Shadow Link the second he saw him because of their unfinished business hah.
Further idea:
Shadow doesn't purely means "Vio's here" as the "dream" he's talking about.
He has a physical body again after 7 years. He's not a prisoner to his own mind anymore and has the ability to affect the world around him.
He was completely stripped of agency and ironically enough "Power" for 7 years.
Like Vio, someone he loves being there is nice too but I don't wanna understate how important Shadow's relationship to Link himself is either.
As in the series so far Shadow's blatantly done the things he stated he wishes he could have done for Link in the pages previous TO Vio because, he has the ability to now.
Basically: We don't need to shoot down Shadow's 7 year long relationship with Link just to bolster Vio and Shadow's.
Tumblr media
Stalker lmfao.
So it's interesting to note he CRIED from Shadow's memories.
Weird moment for Dark Link. It's odd he even cried at all. He has an actual personality outside of just batting people's anxieties and fears back at them after all.
He himself seems rather calm but if you notice, his chest eyeball looks deeply emotional over it.
Question to ask: Is he crying from joy or sadness? Or some third thing?
Did he even realize he was crying? He didn't wipe his tears away.
You'll note, instead of just purely calling Shadow "the traitor" as he did earlier, he switches to calling him his title + traitor lmfao. "Treacherous demon king" he changes his language to be more accurate to his new information about Shadow Link.
Another thing: Dark Link isn't INTERACTING with Shadow Link here like he did with Vio. How he approached it was purely as a spectator.
He's not mentally fucking with Shadow here.
Which shows an odd sense of, genuine interest about Shadow's past that didn't exist earlier with Vio when he purely only said things to make Vio break down.
HE was watching those flashbacks with us and soaking in the information. He has a better understanding of Vio AND Shadow because he can see from BOTH their perspectives as you noticed...and Vaati's.
But that cute little fact isn't important rn.
And with all that word vomiting we will pick up again another time.

For the duo bingo thing, consider: Four x Shadow. Or alternatively, Vidow and/or Red/ x Blue
My computer is being difficult so sorry about the errors
Went w vidow and red/blue bc I have more feelings about those two ships individually 🖤💜💙❤️
Tumblr media
I like vidow!!! Honestly I should get into the fsa fandom, there's probably so much content I'm not seeing but I'm a little intimidated bc they seem close knit bxgxhdjd. But vidow is like practically canon and they have so many fucking opportunities for narratives BXGZBSHZ frothing at the mouth fr. Can't yell more bc it's spoilers but!!!! Fucking. Vidow. Partners in crime. ALL the crime.
Tumblr media
I got a bingo!!!! I fucking fell in love w red/blue and it is ALSO practically canon!!!! Fsa manga had so much, I'm sobbing.... They are just so sweet together! Or like asau red and blue are, my heart is so soft thinking abt them,,, I've always been a sucker for the opposites attract thing. And I marked the sworn rival bc of that polar opposite thing bc I think that counts. Just. The ROMANCE!!!! THE ROMANCEEEEE!!! I'm so glad Mizu indulged me after I read the manga and just let me go buckwild w the characterization bc these two esp are just!!! So good!!!! *shakes fist*
I feel like I'd get a lot out of fanfic of BOTH of these ships but again I'm nervous 👉👈

I haven’t been seeing as much of the Shadow Link content I crave across my feed lately as I want, so I decided to share a snippet of a FSA manga AU I've been nursing for a while. The name of the AU is a spoiler, so don’t read the tags yet if you want to be surprised.
Credit to violetinfidel on AO3 for 'Sir Leonel' as the name of Link's father.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They ran into each other around a corner. Shadow and the Noble Knights stared at each other in shock, then the dark-haired Link turned on his heel and tried to flee. Tried being the operative word - he barely took three steps before staggering and nearly falling. It was simplicity itself for the knights to surround and bring Shadow to bay. He fell to his knees, arms wrapped around a sling across his chest. Wide fearful eyes stared up Sir Valenzuela's sword and he croaked out the last thing any knight ever expected to hear from a servant of Ganon.
"I surrender.”
In the tableau of silence that followed, Sir Leonel could hear Shadow Link gasping for breath.
"Then turn over your weapons," Sir Valenzuela commanded.
Shadow moved slowly but without hesitation as he removed several pouches from his belt and a knife from his boot and slid them across the floor. When he was done he leaned forward and placed his hands flat on the floor in front of him, prostrating himself on hands and knees. Valenzuela's blade didn't waver.
"Where is your sword?"
"Death Mountain, probably. I lost it when the Heroes defeated me there."
"Then what is in that bundle on your chest?"
Shadow visibly swallowed hard before answering.
"A child. Please don't hurt him.”
There were sharp intakes of breath, but Sir Valenzuela didn't turn a hair.
”Show us.”
The corner of one lip rose, displaying one of Shadow's fangs.
"You will not harm him."
"I will decide that."
"You will not harm him, or I will kill you. Even if I die a thousand times trying first."
Only after saying this did Shadow lean back and undo the sling. He moved just as slow and careful as he had in disarming himself. Sir Leonel was not surprised by the sleeping baby's face peeking out from tight swaddling. By their murmuring, his fellow knights were shocked. Shadow shifted to sit cross-legged and lay the babe in his lap.
"Whose child is this? Why are they here?" Sir Valenzuela demanded.
"He's a hostage. Ganon kidnapped the little guy to make his father obey. I want to get him out of here."
Sir Valenzuela's eyes narrowed.
"Whose child?"
"Vaati’s.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I call this my "Vaati as Father AU." Right now it exists as a bunch of snippets in notebooks all over my apartment. The premise is that the "Vaati” seen in chapter one of the FSA manga was actually a fake - Vaati really escaped some 5-10 years earlier, but chose to leave Hyrule quietly for reasons. Ganon had to force Vaati to return and act as his front man. Unfortunately, the perfect leverage fell right into pig man's hands...
This is one of two versions of "Hyrule’s Noble Knights find out" I've written. Haven't decided which I like better yet. The other version Vaati and Princess Zelda are both also present. The focus is more on them.

Do you know what Zelink ship that I absolute adore but rarely see is?
Minish Cap/FS/FSA Zelink.
I already thought they were cute (as I am obliged to think all Zelink ships are cute, it’s part of my contract), but then I read the manga recently and I cannot. stop. thinking. about them.
Especially because of this page.
Tumblr media
Because why is Four so defensive and protective of that sheild???
(proceed no further if you wish to avoid MANGA SPOILERS)
Because it was a gift from his Zelda. She won a lottery and then instead of picking something for herself, she picked out the shield and gave it to Four, and it’s kept him safe ever since.
No wonder he’s so frantic to defend it! (at least that’s my take on it)
And just... all the moments in the Minish Cap and FSA Manga when Zelda and Link(s) are together are just really, really sweet and I ship them a BUNCH.
And I hardly ever see Four/Dot content so I’m left drowning in my feels.

I like to think so.  The problem is that, canonically, Oni only exists in a manga, and I’m genuinely not sure he was ever given a name.  In my head, he’s a Link, because that makes sense to me, and so that’s how I treat him.
Tumblr media
Actually!  Fun fact, Vaati from Four Swords and Vaati from Minish Cap are the same person, and only Vaati from FSA is a different guy.  And yes, I am aware that I already used MC/FS Vaati for the Weather Battle, but in my defense it was too good an opportunity to pass up.  I’ve got a plan for that though, don’t you worry.
Tumblr media
Oooh, you’ve actually stumbled onto one of the ideas I have for the spin-off/sequel!  After all, the guys have to find out about Lux somehow, right?
(Aside from that:  ~Spoilers~)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once again, that is one of the things I need to fix, hence the rewrite.  Gotta love Past Me and all of my Past Mistakes.
And to you as well!  (As for the group, well, I like to think that they’re doing whatever it is that they want on the days when I leave them alone.  Compensation for all the hassle I put them through)

Gintama Reflection (Manga Spoilers)
Alright.
So, Gintama. It’s been quite a journey.
I know it’s not quite done yet, and I’ve only read the raws with my shoddy Chinese. But this huge troll of a chapter really makes the Gintama feels come surgint back.
Bravo, Sorachi. Bravo.
A lot of my worries were cleared after scanning through. Of course I’ve missed details, but that can wait after the translations come out.
The first thing I was concerned with was the pacing. Like many fans I did not believe 5 chapters was enough to end everything, and after experiencing the infamous Shonen End™, I was worried it’s going to get hella rushed.
And of course Sorachi proves himself time and time again to be the best at defying the norm. (Seriously this series is self-aware to a level to where I’m ashamed to have thought it would end in a typical manner)
Second concern I had was the loose ends. Particularly Tamako who disappeared after the fight between Sougo and Kagura, never to be seen again. Tama who’s in a coma, Sadaharu who still hasn’t awoke, and Matako & Henpeita who are probably still making their way to Edo. They were barely brought up in the last few chapters that I was afraid they were forgotten. But after seeing Tamako this chapter, I breathed a sigh of relief for that too.
Sorachi finally gets a break from continuously drawing a weekly manga for 14 years. It’s surprising how much life and energy this series still possess. I applause the gorilla for not burning out on this series after over a decade. Sometimes things may be kinda formulaic compared to earlier chapters (I see a LOT of poses reused. Even if they’re badass poses), although in the grand scheme that’s not too big of a deal. While we have to wait longer for the next chapter, of course the page count and quality will increase drastically.
Um, I’ll just briefly go over some of my gripes before I go back to praising the series. Sometimes I’m not sure about the motives of the villains (C’mon Utsuro could have waited for his altana to run out on Rakuyo and ended it all) or times when former villains return to help (the Three Ominous Stars’s motives for coming to help Earth?? Did I miss it when I was reading?). Also there’s times when things worked out too conveniently (There was never an explanation on why Takasugi knew about Utsuro other than to save exposition. My guess is Nobume told him after the Mimiwarigumi teamed up with the Kiheitai)
Ok. Back to the good stuff.
I started Gintama in 2013 when the second movie was coming out. There were some volumes in the library. I read the volume with the Kappa at the pond (with a girl speculated to be Fuyo) and the Shinsengumi-Yorozuya cherry blossom viewing. I didn’t get into the series immediately, but eventually I found it online and spent a long time catching up. I came in with expectations of a good shounen and walked away with my mind blown (lol). I caught up to the manga when it was on the Soul Switch arc, so my first serious arc while reading on a weekly basis was the Shinigami arc.
SAA was... well... nerve wracking. I was excited when Kamui and Takasugi appeared because what’s been built up for so long was finally there, and I was there to witness it as it was coming out. But that also comes with the anxiety of the Cliffhanger™. You know, basically every chapter ended with a twist. I was in disbelief when Zenzou decapitated the ‘Shogun’, shocked when that was subverted, frustrated when we finally got to the Gin vs Taka & Kagura vs Kamui and then the chapter left it off right there. Then the rest of that month I feared turning each page to find a character dead. Especially chapter 519 when the fight was really bloody. The forum’s reaction to 519 ending was fun though... We shared the pain.
A lot of these reactions could be found if I dive deep, deep into my gintama tag. Another two things I reacted strongly to: Kondo’s ‘decapitation’ dream left the gintama spoiler tag on tumblr screaming. Same went with the Utsuro reveal. As a result the manga fandom turned into S as we waited for the anime onlys to suffer like we have. A solidarity between those who underwent Sorachi’s emotional trauma ride.
A lot more things happened and suddenly Gintama reached its final arc. Things have never really gone back to normal after SAA but I always thought after a series of arcs it would get wrapped up and returned to status quo. I even thought at the time that SAA was the final arc since Takasugi and Kamui were the main antagonists for most of the series.
Okay, so despite the many times we were trolled about this series ending, we Gintama fans keep falling for it.
The second movie as the ‘end’ to the anime (containing surprising clues to the final arc actually)
That announcement during either FSA or Rakuyo about Gintama starting its final arc ‘next year’ and us panicking about Gintama not making it through 2017. Heh.
“Final Arc”
“Final Final Arc” a.k.a. what we thought was the epilogue that ended up turning into an arc of its own
“““Only “5″ chapters left I swear guys I promise”““ Sorachi
“GINTAMA IS MOVING TO JUMP GIGA”
The only response to that is:
“DONDAKEEEEEEEEEE?!”
