a/n: hey! Haven’t done one for bog in ages so here’s the longest one shot I’ve ever written to make up for it😚. This was a request and I think it turned out really cute, enjoy🫶🏼💕

Me and Harry have been together for around 7 years and got married a two and a half years ago. We had a very private wedding with just our closest friends and family. Over a year after we got married we decided that we were ready for a baby and were really excited about it. It took just a few months before I had a positive pregnancy test in my hand. I told Harry that night and he was elated. Everyone has been so supportive and the girls are so excited. We also decided to keep the baby's gender a secret so have only been buying gender neutral clothes.

Last month the boys surprised me and Harry with a three day long trip to a huge lodge/ house in wales, the reason it isn't somewhere extravagant (like usual) is because I'm almost 36 weeks pregnant and can't fly. It's going to be JJ, Simon, Josh, Tobi, Ethan, Harry, Freya, Talia, Faith, Olive and me, unfortunately Vik wasn't able to make it due to being busy abroad DJing. Since we're going to be pretty busy once we have a baby the boys wanted to have one last trip before we become parents.

This morning I got up early and got ready. Since we're going to be in the car for a few hours I put on some jeans and a simple white top. Then Harry got up, took a shower and once all our bags were in the car, we left.

Faith called me after a few minutes of driving, "hey!" She said excitedly. "Hi! We just left." I replied. "Same, it took ages to get Olive in the car. One second she was in tears, then she needed her nappy changed... that'll be you soon." She laughed. I sighed "can't wait." I said sarcastically. She giggled "well, I'll see you there!" "Bye!" And with that I put the phone down.

After almost a three hour drive we finally arrived at our destination. Harry got out and quickly ran around the front of the car to help me out. "Hey!" Me and Harry turned around to see Tobi walking towards us. "Alright mate?" Harry asked as they did their little bro handshake. "Ye great, how are you too?" He pulled me into a quick hug. "Really good! I'm excited to have some time to relax and this place is beautiful!" I answered. Before anything else was said Ethan's car pulled up. Faith jumped out excitedly and quickly ran to give me a hug while Ethan got Olive from the back seat. "Hi!" Faith exclaimed. I smiled "how was your drive?" I asked. Faith went on to tell me about the fact Olive was crying the entire time, up until the last five minutes when she inconveniently fell asleep.

I took a picture of the boys outside the house and sent it to the group chat along with a caption telling them to hurry up. JJ arrived a few minutes later, then Josh and Freya. Talia text the group saying that they were going to be late. So we decided to go on a walk and explore.

We grabbed our coats and started walking, Olive being carried by Ethan. After just five minutes we ran into a dog who seemed to be all by himself. Just as Faith knelt down to pet it I pulled my phone out and told her to pose for a picture. She awkwardly smiled at the camera and we all burst out laughing. The owner started running towards us a few seconds later "oh my gosh. I'm so sorry!" She said after calling her dog over. Faith smiled "don't worry about it."

As we continued walking we spotted a beautiful horse in a field across from the one we were in, both me Faith and Freya took a photo. Then we made our way back to the house. All the boys went out in Ethan's car to get the food for the next few days while we chilled. They came back after an hour with a large selection of food and we decided that we were going to have spaghetti bolognaise for dinner.

Simon and Talia finally arrived a while later, just after we started making dinner. Faith started making the sauce and I helped her by cooking the pasta and tidying up as we went. Talia quickly jumped in to take my place once she'd put her bags in her and Simon's shared room, telling me to 'go sit down and relax'. Which is exactly what I did. Sitting down on the couch next to Harry I sighed and placed my legs on his lap. "You alright?" He whispered into my ear. I hummed "yea."

We ate dinner together at the huge dining table and it was delicious. We decided to watch a movie so all sat in the living room. Me and Harry sat in our previous position on the couch, along with Faith, Ethan and JJ while Talia sat on Simon's lap in the arm chair and Tobi, Freya and Josh sat on top of some pillows on floor. We decided on a movie and within an hour JJ was fast asleep. I was fighting to keep my eyes open when Harry spoke "do you wanna go up to bed?" He asked quietly. I just nodded. "Come on then."

We said good night to everyone and Harry helped me upstairs. "Are you alright?" He asked me as I took my makeup off. "Yea, it's just- my back hurts." I replied. He walked over to me and placed a hand on my lower back, gently rubbing circles. I hummed and leaned into his touch. When we finally got into bed Harry wrapped his arms around me and placed his hand on my bump. I rested my hand on top of his and drifted off to sleep.

The next morning I woke up with a strong urge to pee. I slid out of the bed but just before I made it to the ensuite I felt warm liquid trickle down my legs. I looked down "did I just piss myself?" I thought. My eyes widened "no, it's too early!" I whispered to myself. I waddled to the toilet and sat down. "What do I do? We're in the middle of nowhere!" My brain raced, along with my heart.

Once I'd calmed myself down slightly I stood, took a deep breath and went to wake Harry up. "Haz wake up, Harry!" I shook him. He slowly opened his eyes "what is it, babe?" He mumbled. "I think my water just broke." He immediately shot up, now fully awake "what?!" He exclaimed. "Shh, you're gonna wake everyone up!" I whispered.

When we figured out what we were going to do I got changed out of my wet pyjamas and into some sweatpants and one of Harry's t-shirts, brushed my teeth and tied my hair back into a ponytail. All while Harry tried to calm himself down. "How are you so calm right now?" He asked me. I turned my head to him "everything's fine Harry, I've not even had a contraction yet-" just as the words came out of my mouth a tight pain spread through my stomach "ow" Harry rushed over to me "oh shit- are you ok? Are you having a contraction?" He rambled. I nodded "I think so." The pain wasn't that bad (yet) but I was struggling to focus on what Harry was saying.

Once it finished Harry helped me down stairs. I assumed it was really early, like 5am or something but almost everyone was sat in the kitchen. I glanced the clock on the wall, it's half nine. "Hey! Uh is everything ok?" Ethan asked. Me and Harry shared a look. "What's wrong?" Talia stepped toward us. "Uhm- y/n's water just broke." Harry said. All of their eyes widened and their mouths fell open slightly. "What?!" Faith expressed. "So the baby's coming like now?!" Simon asked loudly. "Well, probably in the next few hours." I answered calmly. "No no no, this can't be happening!" JJ nervously started to pace back and forth. Me and Harry giggled slightly at how stressed they all were.

Just as everyone started to calm down I was hit with another contraction. I grabbed onto the counter and my eyes fluttered closed. Harry gently rubbed my back and everyone went silent. I chuckled lightly through the pain "guys I'm fine."

Faith and Talia helped me to the car while Harry pulled together a bag with some of my things. "This will be a good story to tell in ten years." Faith said as we walked out of the front door. I giggled. Once we got to the car I got into the passenger seat and Harry raced out of the house a few seconds later. Everyone waved us off as we pulled out of the driveway "good luck!" Freya shouted.

The nearest hospital was around half an hour away so I had a few painful contractions as Harry drove, nervously glancing over at me as I breathed through them. I called my mum and told her what was going on, she chuckled "it could only happen to you, good luck and call me when she's here!" "Mum we don't know if it's a girl yet." I told her for the one hundredth time since I told her I was pregnant. "Just a feeling!" She exclaimed "I love you." she continued "love you too, bye."

When we finally arrived at the hospital me and Harry walked inside and were almost immediately taken to a room. The doctor checked me out and told me I was almost 7 centimetres dilated and that it wouldn't be long.

She was right because just an hour later I was holding our beautiful baby girl, mum was right. Even though she's early she was checked over immediately and is perfectly healthy. After getting cleaned up a nurse came in to tell me that there were some people in the waiting room that wanted to see me. I told her to let them in, knowing exactly who it was. A few minutes later Talia ran into the room, followed by everyone else. "Oh my god!" She whispered, careful not to wake up the sleeping baby. "Is it a girl?!" Faith whispered. I nodded with tear stained cheeks "yea." All the boys (except Ethan since he was outside with Olive) gave Harry a pat on the back while the girls fussed over me and the baby.

The next day we drove home. Thankfully we'd already installed the baby seat into the car so we could actually take her home. "I still can't believe she's ours." I said as I watched her from my place in the back seat. "Ye, we're actually parents, it's crazy." Harry replied.

Y/N's POV

Me and Harry sigh as we throw ourselves down on the sofa

We have had a busy week

It's been just over a month since me and Ethan found out that I am pregnant!

We couldn't be more happy

The baby wasn't planned but of course we are still happy

So as I am likely to be showing my bump soon, we thought that we should tell all our friends

But not just tell them to their faces, we decided to have a little bit of fun with it

And this is how it went:

Telling Simon and Talia:

We decided to take our little sausage dog with us to Simon and Talia's new house so they could meet Rolo and so could Mushu

As the dogs are running around and we are chatting, Talia notices that Rolo is wearing a jumper

"Awww Y/N, he looks so cute in a jumper! We should get Mushu one!" She says directing the comment to Simon, who sighs

"Mushu has a permanent jumper, he doesn't need an extra one" He says with a laugh

"What does it say on it?" She mumbles to herself as she lifts Rolo up

There is silence for a moment before we hear

"Holy shit!"

I look towards Talia, who is looking at me in disbelief

Simon moves closer to her to have a look

"My humans are getting me a human" He reads allowed

"No fucking way! Congrats man!" He says as he gets up and bro hugs Ethan

"Y/N! Oh my god!" She exclaims before moving over to me and hugging me

Safe to say that they are happy

Telling Freya and Josh:

Since it is around halloween time, we decided that we would have a couples pumpkin carving competition and see who could come up with the best designs

Freya and Josh came to our place, so we carved ours at the island and they did it at the dinning table

"Right we are sticking to the idea right?" I mumble to Ethan

"Yes stick to the design that we came up with before" He agrees

"Are you ready yet? We have been waiting to start for agesssss!" Freya groans elogating the s

We laugh

"Yes we are ready!" Ethan says

We count down from 3 and start carving on the word go

We have a range of pumpkins in different sizes and colours

So we decided to carve a heart out of one pumpkin and put a coloured one inside the one that has the heart cut out of it

I write Mummy above the heart cut out

Ethan writes daddy on the other pumpkin

On the heart, I write "Baby due" and then the due date

It isn't long before we are all finished and decided to reveal them at the same time

We stand with our backs to each other in front of the pumpkins and we arrange to turn around and reveal at the same time

"3...2...1!" We all exclaim before turning around at the same time

As soon as they turn around their eyes meet our pumpkins and realisation sets in

Suddenly Freya lets out a squeal, whilst Josh bro hugs Ethan

With the excitement, the pumpkins get forgotten about

But lets just say, I think we won that competition

Telling Vik and Ellie:

Me and Ethan also recently moved into a new house

So we decided that another way to tell people would be to have three sets of converse by the door as you walk in

One big pair, one medium pair and one tiny pair

We would get people to notice them by asking them to take their shoes off at the door when they come in

We decided to invite Ellie and Vik round for dinner, as part of the plan to tell them about the baby

I open the front door when I hear knocking to reveal the couple

"Come in! If it is ok would you be able to take your shoes off and leave them by the door" I request and both agree happily

As they walk in, I slowly begin to walk down the hallway to where Ethan is standing at the end of the hall

It's quiet for a moment before I hear

"Oh my god!"

I turn around to see Ellie holding the small pair of converse

"Are you pregnant Y/N?" Vik asks

I nod with a wide smile on my face

Vik comes up to me and hugs me tightly, whilst Ellie goes running up to Ethan and hugs him

"I'm so happy for you both!" I hear her tell him

I smile as I hug Vik back

I'm so glad they are all supportive

Telling JJ:

As we all know that JJ has been busy with boxing and what not and by this time, we are running out of ideas on how to tell the guys that we are having a baby

And with growing a baby inside me, I am slowly getting fed up trying to think of these ideas

So our idea for telling JJ was to get a picture of mine and Ethan's cars together and putting a small model car in front of them

We edited out the number plates and wrote "Arriving" on one and the due date on the other

Ethan sent this to JJ with nothing else

It took around an hour for him to reply after reading the message

He sent back "Holy shit?! Is Y/N pregnant?"

We decided to FaceTime him and say "surprise!"

JJ proceeded to scream before congratulating both of us and asking loads of questions, some of which we couldn't answer like

"Can the baby hear when you have sex?"

Wonders never cease with that man

Telling Tobi:

Ethan is currently at a Sidemen shoot with the boys and we decided to tell Tobi indirectly

Ethan sent me a text saying "he's nearby"

I quickly ring him on Facetime

It rings a few times before the screen lights up with Tobi's face

"Sorry Y/N, Ethan is currently sorting something out on the set, so he told me to answer the phone. Is everything ok?" He asks

I nod

"Yeah, don't worry! Would you be able to tell him that I have a bun in the oven" I explain

Tobi shouts to Ethan that I have a bun in the oven but half way through the sentence he pauses

"Wait, does that mean what I think it does?" he asks

"If by that you mean, am I pregnant? Then yes I am" I say with a chuckle

Tobi laughs

"Ethan come here man!" He exclaims

I see Ethan come in view of the screen and bro hugs with Tobi and they start talking about the baby

I smile as I see the admiration in Ethan's eyes as he talks about the baby

Telling Harry:

We are very close to Harry and we spend a lot of time him

So we decided that we would just sit him down and tell him

Because lets be honest, we don't know what reaction we are going to get from him!

"So what is this all about?" Harry asks as he sits down on the opposite sofa facing us

Me and Ethan came over to Harry's place to tell him

"Well we have some news that we wanted to tell you" I explain before taking a brief pause

"Y/N is pregnant" Ethan blurts out

Harry's eyes go wide

I wait for a weird or offensively funny comment but what I don't expect to hear is:

"Congratulations guys!"

I look at Harry with a raised eyebrow

"Thats it? Nothing else to say?" I ask with a chuckle

He shakes his head

"No! It's not everyday that your best friends are having a baby!" he explains

"I'm happy for you both!" He says

Harry gets up and gives us both a hug, which again I don't expect

We spend the rest of the afternoon hanging out and just chatting about the pregnancy

As well as explaining to Harry, why we aren't naming the baby Harry or Harriet

I'm so glad that everything went with the guys!

I really don't know what I would do without them!

how i think Josh and Freya's engagement went

i think josh would've told her to get her nails done, and what design so it would match the ring

that caused freya to become a little suspicious but not thinking too much about it

josh treating her like the queen she is all day

him kinda throwing out little hints about what he's gonna do

freya kinda guessing what's happening but not saying anything cause josh looks so happy

having booked a little get away so no one is near them when it happens

josh taking freya out to dinner and having workers decorate their entire place to make it look all romantic for the both of them

josh freaking out internally even though he knows freya would say yes

freya freaking out internally even though she knows she'd say yes

all in all they're both internally freaking out

a nice walk on a beach before going back to the place they're staying at

walking back up to the place and josh covering her eyes before stepping into the house

guiding her into the room, mostly without her hitting something

josh making sure the ring is in his pocket so he can get down asap

uncovering her eyes but just wishing he could see her face

him getting down on his one knee

freya staring at the room in shock before turning around

almost instantly crying

both of them have waited years for this

josh having a speech made in his head but not being able to remember it as he stares at the most beautiful women he has ever laid eyes on

freya crying as soon as josh starts speaking

her instantly saying yes, without a second thought

josh putting the ring on his now fiance's finger

having to get photos taken but freya saying she needs to sort out her make up before anything

now both just crying and hugging each other so happily

both of them just so happy after such an amazing night

they deffo got it on that night but its different because now there engaged

In which you and Simon have known each other all your lives but everything changes when he meets a certain girl.

a/n: I absolutely love Talia! This does in no way represent her irl🤍

I've known Simon my entire life. I met him during my first year in preschool, and we immediately became inseparable. We also share a birthday (7th of September). Since I moved to London with Simon I naturally became great friends with the boys, along with Freya and Faith. Our relationship has always been completely platonic, he's like a brother to me and I wouldn't dream of ever going near him in that way. Each girlfriend he's had has always seemed liked me, I presume it's because I make sure that they know I'm a girls girl and always make an effort to become their friend too.

Until he met Talia. She has made it very clear that she doesn't trust me, which completely confused me since I've been nothing but nice to her. It's been 3 months since Simon met her and I've barely seen him. He avoids me at parties, every night out and rarely replies to any of my messages.

One night during a party at JJ's apartment... as I walked towards the counter containing all the alcohol I realised Simon was leaning there with his back against the marble and arms crossed. I took a deep breath and quickly lent over him to grab one of the red cups. "What are you doing?!" My brows furrowed as I quickly turned around. Talia stood in front of me with an angry look on her face. "Getting a drink?" I replied. "Didn't look like it." She retaliated angrily. I turned my head to Simon. He stood sheepishly looking at the ground. I huffed "you know what, I'm so fucking tired of your shit. Both of you!" I shouted. Everyone quickly gathered around the kitchen area. "I've known him my whole fucking life!" I spat in Talia's face. When nether of them said a word I shook my head in disbelief, grabbed my things and left, with a quick "sorry" to JJ on my way out.

That night I got a text from Harry checking if I was alright and after that we became close, sitting in the corner and chatting amongst ourselves at parties and nights out (that he'd made sure I was invited to), going round to each other's houses to watch a movie (even though he hates them) and eat takeout, texting constantly, etc.

One night while we were sat on my sofa, my feet perched comfortably on his lap, he told me he liked me. Surprisingly it wasn't at all awkward and I quickly told him I felt the same. When we told everyone they seemed very happy for us. I didn't personally tell Simon but I believe JJ informed him about it, which felt weird because we always told each other everything.

Soon after Harry asked me to be his girlfriend while we were on a date in a cute restaurant, obviously I said yes. It continued on like that for another few weeks. I seriously missed Simon, I mean we've known each other forever. We did everything together and I'm so incredibly appreciative of Harry but I just feel like something's missing. So for the first time in months I decided to text him.

Hey, how are you?

Simon:

I'm good

You?

y/n:

Fine

I miss you

Simon:

I miss you too

How are you and Harry?

y/n:

Really good

I'm glad he's been here for me when you weren't

Simon:

I'm sorry.

Are you free tomorrow?

y/n:

Why?

Simon:

Talia wants to apologise

And so do I

That message shocked me. I told him I was free so I'm going round to his apartment tomorrow at 1.

The next day... I woke up relatively early, got dressed into some comfy clothes, did my skincare, hair, then had some breakfast. Once I was finished it was almost 1 so I grabbed my phone and left.

When I arrived outside the apartment building I let myself in using the code that I've had memorised for years, said a quick "hello" to the receptionist then made my way up through the lift. I knocked on Simon's door. And played with my hands while I waited. The door clicked, I took a deep breath. He stood with a comforting smile on his face. "Come in." He said, stepping aside. I nervously walked into the apartment, then he led me towards the living room, where Talia sat on the sofa. Both me and Simon sat down. It was silent for a moment before Talia spoke "I'm ready sorry y/n," she began "I should've trusted you. I- I was just a little intimidated by how good you and Simon's friendship was and I was worried he'd chose you over me." I smiled lightly. "I understand." Her head shot up. "You do?" She questioned. I nodded "I'd feel the same way, but if you'd just gotten to know me you'd have realised that I seriously wouldn't go near him with a six foot pole." "Oi!" Simon shouted, offended. Talia laughed.

After almost an hour sat in the apartment it became considerably less awkward, and I realised that Talia was actually a really nice girl. Simon also apologised for pushing me away and since life's too short to hold grudges I easily forgave them both.

“Lunda, we need cloth and boiling water. Red root and-”

“Dad!”

Freya barely got the chance to process what was happening when Freyr suddenly wrenched himself from her grasp and lurched forward into the arms of the young woman who’d all but bolted across the camp towards them. She caught him before he could stagger and fall face first into the dirt and grasped for purchase, then buried her face into the crook of his neck.

“You’re okay! When Lunda told me that you got caught, I was-”

“I’m fine Vana,” Freyr chuckled, clutching the girl tightly even as he sagged against her. “I’m fine, I swear. A little surprised you didn’t come charging in to get me all by yourself, though.”

They parted, Freyr’s hands still clasping the girl’s shoulders with her hands gripping onto them as she scoffed at him, albeit with a grin.

“And I’m surprised that anyone else bothered. They could’ve finally had some peace and quiet.”

There was no venom in her voice and Freyr’s grin simply widened, his gaze brimming with affection. He tugged her towards him and rested his head on top of her’s, and she nestled against him, the picture of contentment.

Freya, meanwhile, found herself standing awkwardly to the side, flabbergasted and unsure of how to interrupt. That didn’t happen often. She was usually an expert in navigating interactions, no matter how strange they might be, on account of her own bluntness. This awkwardness was not a feeling she often experienced.

It passed quickly though, as when Freyr made to turn back to his sister, he folded in on himself with a pained gasp as his wounds made themselves known in full force. The girl - Vana - quickly grabbed his arm to keep him upright and shifted his weight to lean into her side.

Freya seized the opportunity to retake control of the situation and ducked under Freyr’s arm to support his other side, working with Vana to steer him in the direction of the nearest spot where he could sit comfortably as she resumed her previous instructions.

“Lunda, red root and-”

“Lamb’s cress, I know, I know,” the dwarf retorted as she bustled over with Hildisvini at her shoulder and a wooden bowl in her hand. “You think I ain’t never staunched a bleeder before?”

The two women helped Freyr to lower himself against a woven canoe, with Vana shifting to kneel in front of him so that Lunda could access the wound in his side. She patted his ankle and offered him a sympathetic smile that he could only meekly attempt to return as the full weight of his condition returned.

He was sodden with his own blood and what little colour that had returned to his face on the ride back had quickly drained away again. Freya kept a firm grip on his shoulder and knee, ready to keep him braced. She remembered better than anyone just how reactive her brother could be when he was in pain and she’d quickly gathered that Lunda wasn’t going to be light-handed.

“Now don’t you go worryin’ Boss. I didn’t go through any of your stuff while you was off being tortured,” Lunda said affectionately as she scooped a handful of glittering paste from the bowl she was carrying and pressed it into Freyr’s side. And not as gently as she could have because he let out a pained yelp and tried to pull away, only to be kept firmly in place by Freya.

“Damnit, Lunda! Easy!”

“The heck you sassin’ me for?! I ain’t the one who stuck you like a dang pig!” She paused, then added in an aside to Hildisvini, “no offence.”

He just cocked a brow at her but otherwise said nothing as she reached back into the bowl for another handful of paste.

“Freya… mind giving her a hand?” Freyr said with those typical puppy dog eyes, pleading her to intercede as he always did, his hand finding her’s. Then he flinched as Lunda slathered on more paste and added, “or just taking over entirely?!”

“Hold still,” Freya urged. “She’ll just get you stable so I can get you to Sindri’s house. The rest of my herbs are there.”

She patted the spot just above his heart, just like she always did, and the pained frustration slipped from his face. His gaze dropped as the paste did its work, dulling the pain and staunching the bleed, and his breathing grew deeper and steadier.

“We’ll protect the realm in your absence,” Hildisvini interjected. His gaze quickly swept the camp, lingering on Freya, Freyr and Vana, before he added, “the four of us.”

“Vanaheim’s in good hands.”

Lunda applied a final coat of paste and nodded, before she bustled off to join Hildisvini in checking on Beyla and Byggvir.

Vana moved back to Freyr’s side and hesitated, wordlessly looking from him to Freya until he seemed to catch her meaning. He blinked sluggishly and nodded.

“Right, you two haven’t uh. Actually met before, huh?”

“He got there eventually,” Vana scoffed, grinning at Freya who offered a small smile in return. Then she turned to Freyr and added, “who’d have thought that getting half-gutted would make you smarter? That’s gotta be a first or something.”

“I am so glad you’re able to find the humour in all of this,” Freyr shot back, grimacing as he tenderly pressed a hand over his wound. He caught Freya’s eye, saw the expectation on her face and heaved a sigh.

“So, Vana. This is my sister, Freya. And Freya, this is Vanadis, my… daughter.” Then he added sheepishly, “but uh, we all just call her Vana.”

It wasn’t the revelation that this girl was his daughter that was the shock. Freya had heard the girl shout ‘dad’ as she raced over to them, and the affection between the two was obvious in spite of the jabs. And while it was strange to think that Freyr had found the time to father a child with the realm in the state that it was in, it wasn’t a shock to see him embrace his fatherhood nonetheless.

For all of his often foolish, immature and carefree ways, Freyr was the most loving person she knew. Anyone who ended up in his life, he loved without reservation, and a child of his own would never be any different.

No, what shocked her was that his child bore her Valkyrie name. A name she hadn’t used in a long time; not until her final attempt to kill Kratos anyway. Once upon a time, it had been a tribute to her home, a reminder of where she had come from so that no one could truly forget where her heart resided. Then it had been discarded and laid forgotten, buried in the ashes of a life so far away now that it didn’t feel like her own anymore. Except now it turned out that Freyr had-

“Nice to finally meet the brains behind Vanaheim,” Vana said, having sensed the pause and cut off Freya’s train of thought. “Though I wonder how smart you really are to have left this guy in charge and unsupervised.”

Freya blinked, blindsided briefly, but then found an unbidden smile unfurling across her face; the kind that felt like it might split her face in two and couldn’t be hidden even if she tried. So she let a small laugh escape her lungs, and something with spikes and thorns loosened itself in her chest, just a small amount, and yet there was a kind of relief in its tender unravelling. Not near to being undone, but it was a little less painful than before.

“Certainly one of my more questionable decisions, I’m sure,” she agreed. “I’m sure your father here has told you plenty of stories.”

“Oh, he has. But I bet you’ve got all the good ones.”

She flashed a grin that simply sparkled with mischief and Freya couldn’t help but grin back.

“Oh, so many stories. And with any luck, we’ll have time for a few of them at least.”

Freyr groaned.

“I’m going to wish I’d died back there, aren’t I?”

“Think about it this way: it’s your punishment for getting caught and worrying us all,” Freya replied. “Now, think you’re ready to move?”

He nodded, so the two women hooked Freyr’s arms over their shoulders and hoisted him up. He wobbled briefly, head undoubtedly spinning as he struggled to recover his balance for a moment before settling his weight between the two of them.

“Party at Sindri’s house then… wherever that is.” He paused and glanced at Vana. “I mean, assuming you’re-”

“Of course I’m coming,” she huffed. “You’re not getting rid of me that easily.”

“Get rid of you? Never,” Freyr chuckled and he squeezed Vana’s shoulder. “What would I do without my little girl?”

That earned him a groan and an eyeroll, but she didn’t pull away even slightly, and Freya couldn’t help the twinge of jealousy that she quickly swallowed down.

She could never hold her failures against Freyr. If he proved a better parent than her, then so be it. At least with him and Vana, she might just have a family to be part of again. And after so many years of pain and isolation, that would be more than enough.
