Bought a layer cake of quilt fabrics in a VERY busy pattern set. The idea was to stretch my creative self, because this is WAY out of my comfort zone. But now I have absolutely no idea what to do with it. 🤪

I could have just as easily picked up a knife or a gun, like many of my childhood friends did... most of whom were murdered or put in prison... but I chose not to go that way. Mr. Gordon Parks used a camera to fight what he hated the most and I use my sewing machine and fabric. These are the times when I can feel almost hopeless but then I look at what those who came before me did to make positive changes in this world. I look at the barriers that stood in their way and I read about how they defeated them. If they tried there is no way I can say this is too hard.

I am so thrilled to announce that my first artwork using the incredible photographs of Gordon Parks as a source will debut with the Jeffrey Deitch Gallery @jeffreydeitchgallery this June at Art Basel @artbasel Switzerland!

This quilted Art work titled Mobile Madonna is just the first in my new series. The entire collection will debut at the Gordon Parks Foundation @gordonparksfoundation and the Jeffrey Deitch Gallery in NYC ,tba.

I have been working with a new medium. Photo fabric. I did appliqué it onto the monarch fabric. Embroidered the edge of the large one and added small monarchs. They are very special to me. I remember in 1966 when I would stand in the small oak grove at my elementary school and experience the flock of them heading to Mexico from Wisconsin. They are becoming fewer and fewer. I thought it was time to seek out some makers makes today.. and boy this version of ring cycles is the best I've seen.. just glorious! The pattern was developed by #lessasiegele after seeing a vintage quilt in the 70's #2sew is the only place you will find it online. Cool hey. Such an honor! Here's what the maker has to say .. All the ones I’ve seen were with a white background, so I went with the gray Sprinkles from the Homemade collection from @tulapink . 💜. . I highlighted some of my favorite fabrics in the centers and used PRETTY MUCH EVERY solid fabric I own for all the triangles. 🤣. . One thing I decided to tackle was the jagged edge on it rather than square it off... no joke, took way too much brain power for that when I bound it... but I love it! 😍. . Happy Christmas Eve. I finished my @mccallpatterncompany 8318 dress! It is the perfect travel dress pattern. It has large pockets for all my things and it was super comfortable to wear on the plan. I did have a ruffle for the bottom but I couldn’t get it added on in time so we’ll have to do that addition for next year.
