Marry Me (Alex x Reader)
Inspired by Marry Me by Thomas Rhett
Alex, a minute ago
Today was y/n's wedding. The day we always talked about as kids, the day that I was supposed to stand up and be here for her, the day that I walked her down the isle... I just remembered talking about it back then, all those years ago...
Tumblr media
Alex, 20 years ago. 14
She told me one day she wants to get married, she wants her grandpa preaching the service, but not too many people, save her some money. Even on her wedding she still cares about things like that. She's got it all planned out, I can see it all right now.
I'll be wearing my black suit, a black tie hiding out in the back. Doing a strong shot of whiskey straight out the flask, I'll be trying to make it through without crying so nobody sees. That she's gonna get married, but she's not gonna marry me...
I don't know why but I love her so much and I know it's selfish but I don't wanna see her with anyone else... Why do I have that feeling.
Tumblr media
Alex, 18 years ago. 16
Ever since Kara found out about me and y/n she's been telling me to tell her, make my move...
So we just got home after the football game , y/n was sleeping over.
We just had dinner then we went upstairs, we look into each other's eyes, leaned in but she pulled away just before we kissed because we heard something fall down stairs, turns out it was Kara and her powers.
After that I kinda freaked out, I mean we've been friends for forever. But I always wondered if she did feel the same way... But-
Tumblr media
Alex 6 years ago, 26
Today, I was going to tell y/n how I felt after I get back from Geneva. But that didn't happen so I think I'll wait...
Tumblr media
Alex, 3 months ago. 32
So I did, I waited and waited... till this day...
After everything that's happened these past six  years. With Maggie and Mon El, I had Kara, J'ohn, and one of my best friends Kelly to get me though it something was missing... Someone was missing... That someone was y/n. She was always there after Maggie, she was there, after crisis she was still there... When Kara became supergirl for the very first time... She was there.
And I never told her, but now I just know it's too late...
Yesterday she handed me a white envelope. That I still haven't opened, but I already know when it says...
Hey, Alex Danvers,
My great protector, My best friend, My soulmate. This a letter I hand, wrote for you, because this is my wedding invitation.
Thank you for always being there for me through the ups and downs of our lives, thank you for sticking around even if I made it clear I don't want you around, you could tell that I did...
But on this day I am asking you to give me away , to walk me down the isle next to me and my dad. Please I can't think of anyone else that can do this.
RSVP
Yes                            No
            __________                 _________
I read the letter and balled my eyes out knowing it was way too late I know her dad's been dreading this day, but he doesn't know he's not the only one giving her away...
I put out my black suit, my black tie just like I thought I would all those years ago...
Tumblr media
Alex, a 10 minutes ago
She's got on her dress now, I see her welcoming the guest now, then I see Kara walk up to me...
"Alex it's now or never... You to tell her or you'll regret it someday... Believe me" Kara said to me remembering Mon El
"I know Kara... I know" I walked away with tears in my eyes
I think about everything she's done for me all my life, she's heard me rant at 3:00 a.m. about some alien problem, she's seen me get shot, get hurt but still she's always there, she's even gotten hurt... because of me, but still she's always for me and never asked for anything in return...
She's been the love of my life since we were 14... After everything I've put her I just need to give this day... This one day, but I could try to find her, tell her, before she's finally out of reach...
But I don't wanna mess it up... So I walk up to her...
"Hey, y/n"
"Hey yourself, handsome... Wow, you look amazing Ally" she's called me that since we were 7... How am I supposed to ruin this for her...
"Hey, I just needed to talked to you... (she looks at me with a gentle and curious smile... I can't do this) and wish you the best and good luck" her smile drops, leaving me confused, but I felt tears forming in my eyes when she said something I never knew...
"You know when we were around 12 years old I used to have this big crush on you- (I looked at her wide eyed) and I was hoping you wouldn't notice... But at around 14 I knew I loved you, and its funny because I never knew what that felt like and hurt because I felt like couldn't tell you without losing everything... But then you came out to me and Maggie happened and I couldn't do that to you, so I just gave up... I gave you up all those years ago, still hurts but at least you're here now (she grabs my hands)"
I just hug her and punish my heart and mind for never noticing... She is in love with me... She was in love with me, and it's only now I notice how big of a part of me relies on her, and that part gets ripped away the moment she walked away with tears in her eyes...
Then I look at Kara she looks back at me with sadness...
Tumblr media
Alex, 5 minutes ago
It's time for me to to walk her down the isle but I so I do... But the moment she reached the altar I left... I left because it hurt touch, I left because I couldn't handle seeing her get married... What kind of a friend am I, I can't even watch her get married... I instead I'm doing what I thought I'll do all those years ago...
I'm in my black suit, my black tie, hiding out in the back till it's over, drinking strong shot of whiskey straight out the flask... The flask that she gave me...
That is until I here someone knock on the door...
Tumblr media
Alex, the present
I see from the window that it's y/n... Wait a minute, it's y/n she supposed to be married by now... A million thoughts run through my head, what is she doing here?!
We sit down "Um... Y/n what are you doing here? when you're supposed to be out there" I asked concerned, then I saw tear stains on her cheeks, then I knew something was wrong...
"Turns out Mary (the girl you're supposed to marry) heard what we were talking about earlier and she said and I quote " I know you love me and I love you, but we both know you love someone much much more, so get the girl, if it's love it's worth it, give me a call if you want try again, or tell me who it is but I'm pretty sure I already know" then I told her ok but I didn't want it to be this way, she said she didn't either but that we could still be friends, so right now their cleaning up the wedding so Daniel and Emma (Daniel is your fatherly figure) can get married instead, didn't want this to go to waste"
"Even after everything, you still think about others" I say with a small smile "but why did you come to me"
Because after everything there is still one thing I'm sure of-" she walks to me taking of her glasses which confused me because she usually only does that when she's about to-... Oh... My... God "- it's that I'm still in love with you and i know i just broke up but will you be my girlfriend?"
"Yes..."
"Really?!" She asked happily
"Yes! But what about Steve" the 12 year old Kryptonian boy y/n adopted when he was 6, he is cute though... Her little Rogers
"Don't worry he knows and he loves you"
I took her in my arms then we locked eyes like we did all those years ago but this time there's no stopping us... She leans in to kiss me and so did I and I and it felt like fireworks... Look I know It sounds cliche but its true...
And we both knew this would be the first of many...
Tumblr media
Alex, 8 years later, 40
"So that's how you guys got together... On mom's wedding day" our boy asked in disbelief us
"Uh-huh" y/n nodded yes
"Wow... you guys really took your time" our girl told us with a smirk, y/n just broke out laughing and I just glared at her.
"Yeah... now go to bed little Danvers" y/n said in a serious voice... So it's my turn to break out laughing.
"Good night you two" we walked out of the room to find little Rogers, yes I've started calling him that now too, passed out with his shield in his room on the couch. He still lives with us because he said she wants to spend as much it with his moms as possible so he pays the bills, but y/n grew up in this house, this very big house that her grandma built and still owns, so her mom and grandma live with us, 4 generations of y/n's family.
After that it was getting late so me and y/n go to bed...
I still can't believe that after everything, that I get to have this. Getting to wake up next to the love of my life, having a big family. It's all because of her, I mean she gave birth to the twins. Our Kara Eliza "Elie" L/n Danvers and our John Winslow "Winn" L/n Danvers, who, not so surprisingly act just like me and Kara. After y/n and Kara gave me, Winn, Nia, James, Kelly, Brainy and Eliza, a blood transfusion a few years ago, they accidentally made us part kryptonian we don't have powers but I now have the same lifespan as my family, which made so happy.
This is the life I've always wanted and even if I thank her everyday it still wouldn't be enough for the lifetime of happiness she's given me...
Tumblr media
A/n: Winn came back about 5 years ago and decided with his wife to stay in the present. Sorry this was a little long I just can't stop writing sometimes. Well thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed it, bye!, Sorry for it being really bad though. Oh and your kryptonian too. And this is on Wattpad too...

@periwinkle-the-11th
Warnings: Inappropriate comments, a wee mini smut clip
Original Characters: Stephanie Johnston (a bully), Lilly Parker (another bully), Marjorie (Lena's friend)
Things To Know: It's a college AU, also some inspiration from Fratdaddyo_hara on AO3 specifically the work titled "reward".
••••
Lena took her seat on the -slightly wet from the rain the past days- bleachers. Putting her blanket over her legs as the chill of the night was already settling in. She searched for Kara, finding her fiancée doing warm ups before the football -American- game.
The day she got asked that question was the best day of her life -no one at the college the girls attend knows their getting married, or were even dating- she still remembers that day.
"What are we doing...?" Lena asked as she got lead blindly through the woods. "Are you gonna murder me..?" Kara chuckled behind her and kissed her hair "no" she dragged out the 'o' making Lena laugh as well. Soon Kara moved her hand and now Lena could see the little lakefront she decorated with the help of her sister and friends. "Kara.... It's beautiful" Lena said breathlessly "So are you.."  Kara said. Lena turned and -kinda, eh, lil more than kinda- pounced on her girlfriend, pulling her into a hug and tucking her face in the crook of Karas neck. "I love you too baby" Lena chuckled into her "Cmon!" Lena tugged Kara along as she walked to the little picnic set up. Lena sat down on the blanket laid on the ground, smiling up at Kara as she did the same.
"... So I end this speech with.... Will you marry me..?" Lena was sobbing as she nodded and mumbled the word 'yes', Kara could barely hear her voice through the tears, but she heard. So she hugged her now fiancée, putting the ring on her finger as their foreheads touched and they admired it.
Kara also couldn't take her eyes off it as she thrusted her fingers into Lena. As Lenas hand gripped hers tighter as her orgasm rocked her.
Lena smiled at the memory fiddling with the ring she was able to wear because she was a quiet girl, overlooked, so no one cared if a ring was on that finger.
She soon grimaced when she heard the conversation of the girls sat in front of her.
"Fuck Danvers is hot."
"I know, look at her fingers, fuck imagine those in you"
Lena knew who these girls were. Stephanie Johnston and Lilly Parker. They went to Lena's high school as well, and they still bully her relentlessly. Kara wishes she could punch them but Lena always just says everything is ok and not to worry.
They know about the ring but they think Lena is just so pathetic that she is pretending, and Lena didn't defend herself in fear of revealing her relationship with Kara.
She smirks to herself, looking down at the ringon her finger. She finds it humorous they want to sleep with Kara when the girl they deem as "Pathetic" has that girl wrapped around her finger.
A body sits by her, its Marjorie, of course it is. Marjorie is the girlfriend of one of the offense players, the football team knows about them as the team is Kara's "crew" in their words.
"Hey Lee!"
Steph and Lilly were turn around and smirk when they see her hands.
"Still doing your little pretending act I see"
They laugh and turn around, Marjorie and Lena sharing a knowing look before hiding their laughter.
As the game goes on jealousy bubbles in Lena at the girls in front of her words ring through her head. It was funny at first she thinks.
"Lilly just... just imagine Kara fucking you."
"She definitely talks you through it."
That she does Lena thinks.
"Fuck she's greek goddess built I swear."
"I wonder what kinks she's into."
Praise, a little bondage, dominant sometimes, and a little bit of a daddy kink, but mostly she just does whatever I beg for Lena names off the top of her head.
"I need her strap.. like.... fuck...."
"Fuck shes so hot"
"I could pull her, I know it"
As it goes on the jealousy builds, and by the winning touchdown Kara scores Lena doesn't even jump up, to engrossed in her thoughts.
Once everyone gets through cheering and the announcements end Marjorie gives her a look. "Whats up with you..?" Lena looks up, something clicking as she starts moving a little fast tossing her trash from the concession stand under the bleachers like everyone does, and messily rolling up her blanket and putting her bag and blanket more near Marjorie.
"I need to do something, take this for me?"
Marjorie nods and Lena walks down the bleachers, slow as to not fall again however we don't speak of that.
She goes to the edge of the bleachers and whispers to the coach, he knows Lena well and about her relationship, Lena and Kara babysitting his 3 little girls frequently.
She gets on the field and walks over to Kara, she knows people are staring, frankly, she doesn't care.
Kara sees her and immediately walks over, assuming something's wrong, which already confuses people as they assumed they don't know each other.
"Are you ok baby..?" Kara whispers and Lena nods.
"Kiss me"
"Here.. with all these people..?"
"some people need to know your not up for grabs"
She spits out the word 'people' harshly, making it very clear to Kara who she is referring to.
"Are you one hundred percent sure..?"
Lena nod and Kara nods as well in understanding, leaning down and kissing Lena as everyone in the bleachers starts gasping and shouting in enjoyment.
The kiss is rather gentle, with some anger from the jealously coming from Lena, soon drowned out by the gentleness of Kara.
They pull away and Kara hugs Lena pulling her to the exit of the field. Grabbing Karas things from the locker room and Lenas things from Marjorie before they go home.
That night Lena is showing very clearly those girls comments amount to nothing in Karas eyes, shown in a way that includes the violent shake of her legs while their held down by Karas hands, and broken pleads that fall from her lips.

STORY PROMPTS I MADE WITH CHARACTERS
Feel free to use them (tag me) even if you change the characters!
(Mainly angst bc i was going through a bad breakup ):
• Wandas your soulmate but she leaves/chooses Vision instead (said the stones connect them in an even more powerful way then the words on your hip) Your left heartbroken. Natasha isn’t close to you but she knows how it feels to be rejected so she becomes your rock through the pain. (Your Soulmark slowly fades away) One day new words appear on your skin on your wrist (or over your heart) they’re the first words Natasha spoke to you. (Nat x Reader, PastWanda x R)
• Hope and Reader are dating and so are Josie and Landon. Turn out Hope and Landon cheated on their girlfriends with each other. They end up finding out and breakup with them. They lean on each other bc they can both understand what they’ve been through they end up falling in love tho. Josie x Reader endgame based off of Rush by Lewis Capaldie and Jessie Reyez
• Hope & Y/n are dating. Y/n finds out Hopes cheating on her with Landon and at first denies it until the evidence it basically
• Natasha and R were dating but Nat was a push and pull so R ends it bc Nat was too hot and cold and leaves New York and ends up in National City ends up dating Kara but Kara basically acts like R needs constant protecting etc. (based off of All I want Olivia Rodrigo) R tells Kara she can take care of herself and has proven it time and time again but Kara continues even Alex tries w/ Kara but Kara constantly treats R like a damsel in distress. Avengers end up in National City with Nat wanting R back . R has to choose Nat or Kara or Herself. (readers vote in who Y/n ends up with!)
6. Carol Danvers x Reader (That’s us by Anson Seabra) off n on again relationship. At first it was steady but Carol was away and Y/n was always so busy. They love each other very deeply but it’s like the universe is making everything against them but time and time again they find their way back to each other. Ending is probably open ended.
7. One night Wanda’s walking home from the library when she looks up and sees you standing on the edge of a roof. Everyone goes about there business no one seemingly notices. She goes into the alley and flies up when she gets there she watches as you sit on the ledge leaning your stomach against the pole that wrapped around the ledge. You pull out a joint and smoke when she creeps on behind you you must’ve sensed her coming bc you pulled out your headphones and looked at her. Dialogue prompts - “I’m not going to jump, don’t worry” you say notices the worry in the strangers eyes, “Why are you sitting here then?”, “Because I want to jump but I won’t”, “You want to but you won’t?, “Yes, everything in me screams at me to jump to finally have peace from this beautifully broken world but I won’t. I cant leave my family no matter how much I want too I don’t want them to have to bear the pain of my death.” “It might be selfish of me to want to leave but it also feels selfish of them to make me stay. If I’m unhappy with my life why not do something to fix that unhappiness right? But I can’t because they’ll be in pain and they’ll hurt. No matter what I choose I lose.” “Have you always felt like this?”, “The thing with depression is, it never goes away, no matter how much medication you take, how many years go by, it’s there. It’s always there.”
8. Y/n is Jules sister and when Nate Jacobs gets kicked off the football team they need a new QB which is Y/n. Cassie and Maddie both find her attractive and make a bet to see who could score a date w/ her first. They ask her all kinds of questions about if she likes anyone etc. she answers them and some of the questions point to her liking one of the girls. They ask if it’s anyone they know and she replies with yes. Eventually they get tired of the back and forth and ask her which one of them she likes (they’d go on ‘dates’ but Y/n always thought they were friend hangouts) bc she can’t have both. Y/n confused asks what they mean and explain to which she replies she thought they were just being nice and trying to be her friend. She apologizes and slyly looks behind them to meet Lexi’s eyes and replies she doesn’t like either of them but Lexi and proceeds to ask Lexi out. See on Y/n’s first day at in town she ran into Lexi and they hit it off.
9. Y/n is a neurologist who has the powers of intuitive aptitude (she can learn things despite how complex it is extremely fast) things and ends up on the avengers. Y/n can’t really understand social cues so she’s kinda awkward but she studies humans brains and bases how she acts on what she’s learned. Natasha or Wanda has a crush on her and tries to ask her out or flirts with her but she doesn’t know they are. One of the avengers gets fed up with seeing Wanda or Nat (better yet both maybe a WandaNat x Reader) pine after Y/n and flat out tell Y/n WandaNat has a crush on her so Y/n goes up with them tells them to pick her up at 8 or something like that.
10. When Fury stops by in Age of Ultron he brings Y/n who has energy manipulation. She was in Struckers program except she didn’t volunteer she was taken. She knew pietro and Wanda but In a mission was captured by SHIELD (Coulson’s team) anyways she jumps at the chance to go help the avengers and try to bring Wanda & Pietro back on the good side. She saves Pietro but gets hurt kinda bad in the process Wanda kisses her which shocks her but reciprocates bc she cares deeply for her.
11. Y/n L/n loves Natasha has since they were children, problem is Natasha didn’t love her, not in that way. They always had each others backs and it was always Natasha & Y/n until Bucky Barnes. A series of events caused by Bucky lead to Natasha’s death. Y/n never understood what Nat saw in Bucky and no matter how many times Bucky fucked up forgetting date night, missing anniversaries, yelling at her for little things, coming homs drunk at 3 in the morning, she always went back to him. She’d tell Y/n “love is hard and who am I to give up on love?” Bucky gambling and getting into a deep debt unbeknownst to Nat costing her, her life. With Y/n telling Bucky “you never deserved her” “and you did?” “I would have treated her better then you ever could’ve. I loved her through everything and even if she didn’t love me I was always there for her, not you” She totally punches Bucky. No matter what it was always Natasha no matter how many times she broke Y/n’s heart she’d always choose Natasha. (Maybe a flash forward to Wanda x Y/n in the future. Y/n visits Nats grave the day after she married Wanda. Then again the day after Natalia (her daughter) was born. Y/n telling her she still loves her she’ll always love her and that she misses her and wishes that she could’ve met Wanda and Natalia. Another one where it’s been awhile since she’s visited her and she talks about how Natalia is so much like Nat when they were kids too curious for her own good, extremely smart, and she loves ballet saying she wanted to be like her Auntie Nat)
none of these are proofread and i wrote them when i was like 16 so don't judge and im just clearing my drafts rn lol

so the @thebreakfastgod posted these excellent looks yesterday and then I listened to “Test Flight” from the How To Train Your Dragon soundtrack for two hours and entered a fugue state and this happened
It’s hard to hear.
Between the band doing their best to egg the crowd on, the shouts and jeers and chants from the stands, and the blood making the ringing in her ears pulse a techno beat Kara can barely make out that Alex is speaking. Sam knocks their pads together, raising a brow when Kara meets her eye. A thumbs up with her good hand, a knock and grimace back around her mouth guard is all she has breath for at the moment. Plus Alex is halfway through her motivational speech. She’d hate to interrupt now.
“- and fuck Gotham thinking they can steal this game!” Alex is yelling now, more than her usual bark. Her eyes burn as she looks around the huddle. “This is our house, our game, our title!” The team growls their agreement around her, louder and louder with every word out of their quarterback. “We’re too far to kick and fuck stopping the clock anymore.” Alex locks eyes with Kara.
Black face paint smears down her cheeks from sweat and Kara knows for a fact Alex is two seconds away from chewing through another mouthguard this season. Kara’s own head throbs. Her wrist aches something fierce from that last tackle. It’s definitely sprained; maybe even fractured since she’s pretty sure she can’t move her thumb. But her sister is giving her the same look she used to when they were kids right before giving the neighbor boys hell.
And Kara feels like she could fly.
“Run the route,” Alex says, steady and firm. Kara nods. It’s Sam’s turn to get an order as Alex barks out the play - “Super Reign!”
Their yell is almost immediately swallowed by the crowd as they break the huddle. The techno ringing in her ears picks up again, beating faster as her pulse races. A quick glance up at the board only makes it worse. Twenty-three to twenty-seven, Gotham. Third and Ten. Fifteen seconds of play left in the game. And the play clock counts down underneath it all.
20…
19….
She knows she needs to focus, needs to line up, needs time to set in order for the play to work. But Kara stands unmoving from where the huddle broke and scours the crowd.
It’s dumb. She’s wasting time. She said she wasn’t going to come - she never comes to games. All noise and drunk bros and middle-aged alumni reliving their glory days through adrenaline filled kids slamming into each other on gridiron field… but Kara still searches.
15…
14…
“Danvers! Move it!”
Brainy’s obnoxious green hat sticks out in a sea of NCU blue and white and Gotham black and gold, Nia hopping from foot to foot next to him. They’re tucked about halfway up the stands behind the home bench, almost obscured by the giant frat bros in front of them. But Kara can just make out the hint of a blue and white beanie, crammed down over dark hair and a maroon scarf pulled up over what Kara knows is an anxiously bitten lip.
Lena came to watch.
12…
11…
“Kara!”
She’s half in position when Alex turns to spit fire. The maniacal look is back in Alex’s eyes as she calls out nonsense. Gotham on the other side of the line doesn’t even twitch. Kate Kane’s mouth moves in a smug sneer, taunting Sam with whatever trash talk she’s come up with between plays.
7…
6…
Sam tilts her head over her shoulder to meet Kara’s gaze.
5…
“Argo!”
Kara watches Kane’s mouth stop mid-word as Sam sprints backwards towards the pocket. Kara’s almost halfway to the line herself before Alex finishes the word. Her feet set, same time she knows Sam’s do behind her. One second. Two. Gotham’s golden helmets swing back and forth trying to track the last minute change of position.
“HIKE!”
The ball snaps and Kara’s over the line. No flag, no whistle. She’s free.
Time starts ticking down what little’s left in the game and Kara knows this is it. In the corner of her vision she sees the line shift. X’s and O’s run colorful arrows as the play runs in her head. A “fake” shovel from Alex to Sam. Gotham takes the bait, following the quarterback as she breaks towards the sideline, trying to stay in the pocket. Kara charges ahead. For a moment, Montoya’s in front of her, confusion plain behind her face mask as she watches something happen behind Kara. It’s just a moment. Kara’s already blowing past, counting in her head.
3… 2… 1…
She looks back just in time to see Sam launch the ball. Out of the pocket and miles away from the nearest tackle, Sam’s throw is a thing of beauty. An absolute rocket of a pass. One Kara would normally sit back and watch in awe and appreciation if it weren’t for the fact that her lungs were burning with the effort to push her body to the limit to catch up.
She’s not worried about being caught. Kane’s the only one with the speed to catch her and Kara’s pretty sure she’s fifteen yards back and away. Nothing between her and the rapidly approaching end zone but open field.
Just have to catch it.
The ball arcs down. Kara reaches up, hands flexing open. Her wrist pulses in protesting agony and suddenly something clips at her heels – Kane? Kara doesn’t look so much as shifts slightly to see a flash of black and gold barreling down on her.
And it’s brief. Only a second. But the check on Kane makes Kara fall the barest bit behind the ball flight path.
It’s just out of reach. Sinking closer and closer to the field. Kane’s almost on her and the end zone is right. There. Kara tries to go faster, tries to push off harder as she runs but there’s just not… enough… time.
Somewhere behind her Sam and Alex scream. The ringing pulse in her ears drops away and the crowd holds their breath.
Kara dives across the end zone line.
Later, they’ll tell Kara how Kate Kane ran like something possessed to catch up with her. They’ll show her replay after replay of her fingers tipping the ball back into the safety of her sticky palm, Kane dives for Kara’s ankles. They’ll ask her over and over again how it feels to make the championship winning catch with only one hand and a leap of faith.
But lying there in the grass, ball held up over her head and the fans roaring so loud she can barely hear herself pant for breath, Kara can only beam at the sky and wonder if this is what it means to soar.

headcanon that kara gets article ideas while she’s flying so she uses siri to record a voice memo so she can remind herself of whatever idea or sentence snippets later and alex has had to suffer years of overhearing how her sister is gonna manage to wax poetic about lena in her article about a new museum exhibit or the summary of a borough town hall meeting that she’s not even connected to

Gridiron Physics
Read on AO3
I did this as a prompt for my daily writing exercises back in January. It doesn't really have an ending, it's just a few thousand words of gay yearning and high school hijinks. Enjoy!
Four o’clock was one of Lena’s favorite times of the day. All the students of East National High had already gone home, allowing her to relax in her classroom and either grade papers or work on lesson plans. It was true, she could certainly do those things at home, but home didn’t have the view that her classroom window did. Miss L, as her students affectionately referred to her, pushed back from her desk slightly, leaned back in her creaky wooden chair, and stretched her arms high over her head, sighing as her muscles stretched out after a long day of being tensed up.
As Lena recoiled her arms back from the stretch, she glanced out the window, The sight brought a thin smile to her face, and she decided to give herself the treat of a short break to watch from the comfort of her desk.
The sight that had entranced Lena through her window was that of East National High’s football team. More specifically, it was the head coach of the team that Lena found herself unable to tear her gaze away from.
Coach Danvers, or Kara to her friends, was as animated as ever, jogging alongside her team as they ran drills, yelling orders and barking critiques of form and effort. Day in and day out Kara Danvers ran spirited practices but was always aware of where the edge that she could push her players was.
Lena appreciated the coach’s energy. She appreciated the way her dirty blonde ponytail bobbed up and down as she jogged along the field; the way the sleeves of Kara’s polo shirts strained around her biceps; the way she seemed to sparkle in the light of the setting sun once she had worked up a sweat.
What was supposed to be a short break from her work turned into something much longer, and before Lena knew it the team was already doing their cooldown workouts. A slight blush worked over her skin as she realized she had spent the last half hour gawking from afar, saved from full embarrassment by the fact that her second-floor window was far enough away so that surely no one had noticed her.
Only slightly embarrassed, Lena quickly packed up the papers on her desk and shoved them into her messenger bag, determined to leave as soon as possible, as if the longer she stayed the more guilty she’d become.
Before leaving, Lena took one more glance at the field out her window. It was already deserted, which Lena figured was for the best. The physics teacher sighed slightly and slung her bag over her shoulder, doing everything she could to focus her mind on the bottle of wine that awaited her at home.
---
On Wednesdays, Miss Luthor had open office hours until five o’clock. How busy she was with students largely depended on how close to an exam they were, except for two: Lisa Tunney and Michelle Clark. Every Wednesday, without fail, they were there. Not that Lena would ever admit to having favorites, she wanted all her students to excel, but in a moment of honesty, she would admit that Lisa Tunney was her prize student. The worst Lisa had on a quiz or exam all year was a ninety-eight, and thanks to extra credit she was holding at a solid one hundred for the year. (Truth be told, Lisa’s grade was one hundred seven, but the computer system didn’t allow for anything above an even hundred.)
Michelle was a classmate of Lisa’s. She was an average student, maintaining a solid B, which she seemed perfectly happy with. Lena suspected that Michelle mostly came to her Wednesday office hours was because Lisa dragged her there. Usually, Michelle would sit at a desk close to the window and stare out while Lena would answer Lisa’s endless parade of questions.
It was getting late in the day on this particular Wednesday, Lisa and Michelle were there, along with three other students. Lena had been moving about the room, helping each one with their individual questions when a light rapping came from her doorway. The teacher looked up to see a certain blonde football coach hovering in her doorway. More than anything, Lena had hoped that none of her students heard the sharp breath she drew in when her eyes locked onto Kara.
“Coach Danvers,” Lena said, a lot more breathless than she had planned on. She was desperately hoped that her cheeks weren’t as flush as they felt. “What can I do for you?”
Kara Danvers stepped into the room, and Lena couldn’t help but take note of the way Kara’s slacks hugged her thighs or the way her East National High t-shirt stretched over what was definitely a set of chiseled abs.
If Kara noticed Lena taking her in, she made no inclination of it. “Kenny Rogers,” Kara said, taking another few steps towards the science teacher. The room had gone dead silent as everyone paid full attention to the blonde standing at the front of the room. “I believe he’s in your 10 am class?”
It took Lena a few seconds to realize that Kara had just asked her a question. “Kenneth?” Lena blinked, her brain finally catching up. “Yes, he is.”
The blonde’s posture relaxed, casually folding her arms as a smirk slowly formed on her face. “He needs to miss class tomorrow. I need him to attend an extra film session before Friday’s game.”
Lena raised an eyebrow. The request jolted her enough to finally find her footing. “So I’m just supposed to be okay with him missing class to watch a movie?”
“No no no,” Kara chuckled, waving her arms in front of her. “Film session. He needs extra time to study our opponent’s blitz packages.”
“I take it that’s important to win the big game. As if that’s more important than his education,” Lena mused, her voice drenched in sarcasm.
The coach’s face frowned, then contorted into a pleading, her bottom lip almost quivering as her marvelously blue eyes widened. Before Kara even said anything, Lena knew she was done for.
“Please, Miss L? I’ll make sure he gets his schoolwork done, I always do,” Kara begged, her hands slapping together in front of her.
All of three seconds passed before Lena caved into the pleading woman in front of her. “Fine. FINE!” Lena huffed through a smile.
Before she knew it, Kara was just inches in front of her, both of her hands on Lena’s shoulders. “Thank you so much! And don’t worry, I’ll make sure Kenny doesn’t miss a beat in his studies, promise.” Without waiting for any sort of reply, Kara was out of the room, leaving Lena staring at the door with her mouth hanging open.
“Wow,” a voice behind Lena chimed in, pulling her out of her stupor. She turned around to search for the origin of the voice, to see Michelle staring intently at the doorway.
“Somehow, Coach Danvers looks even hotter up close,” the young woman drawled.
“Mind your manners, young lady,” Lena admonished. Michelle made a little squeaking noise as her whole body recoiled. The young woman’s eyes were firmly on the desk in front of her as she did what she could to stop from blushing.
Lena turned back to help the student she had been before interrupted. A small smile crept onto her face as she silently acknowledged that Michelle may be the smartest person in the room.
---
Lena strolled down the hallway of East National High School. Lunch period had just started for most of the student body, meaning that Lena had about ninety minutes of free time before her next class. It left her with plenty of time to get lunch, as well as take care of several important errands and tasks.
After a few minutes, she reached her stop, an office, door wide open. Miss Luthor stopped just short of it and took a moment to compose herself. Then, with a confident nod, she stepped into the doorway.
“Coach Danvers, I was hoping—” Lena said as she rapped on the frame of the door with her knuckles. Her eyes did a quick survey of the room until they set upon Kara Danvers, who was already rising to her feet from behind her desk.
“Oh,” Lena said, completing her quick sweep of the room, “you’re alone.”
“Yep,” Coach Danvers replied, fixing the collar of her dark maroon polo.
Without another word, Lena quickly stepped into the room and swung the door closed behind her. She made as broad strides as her dark pencil skirt would allow until she was crashing into Kara’s open embrace. Their lips slammed into each other as one of Kara’s hands shot up to grip the back of Lena’s neck, where she casually played with the baby hairs there. Kara’s other hand was firmly pressed into the small of Lena’s back, pulling her in for a tighter embrace. Both of Lena’s arms were flung over Kara’s shoulders, her hands tangling into wavy blonde locks.
The two collided with such fury that Kara stumbled back a few paces, slamming into a tall filing cabinet. It did nothing to slow them down as Kara slipped her tongue past Lena’s lips, eliciting a moan.
The only thing that could interrupt them was the continued need for oxygen. They pulled apart with a gasp and rested their foreheads against each other.
“Darling,” Lena huffed, her lungs still struggling for air. The pet name got a wide smile from Kara. The coach’s hand let go of Lena’s neck, allowing for her fingers to slowly dance their way down the jawline. “One of my students thinks you’re cute,” Lena added with a chuckle.
“Only one?” was Kara’s immediate reply, her face sporting a smug grin.
“Well, only one’s been brave enough to admit it so far.”
“Fair enough,” Kara chuckled.
Lena’s hands gradually began sliding down from Kara’s shoulders, taking in her firm sides until they reached Kara’s hipbones when they began sliding back.
“This is the only ninety minutes of the day I get you all to myself, let’s not worry about students,” Miss Luthor airily proclaimed. Kara nodded enthusiastically, pulling Lena further into her arms.
---
It was probably too many books for one trip, Lena knew that. She did cardio three nights a week, and yoga on the other two, but upper body strength wasn’t something she put too much focus on. Lena was a proud woman, though, and having the make two trips to return six books just didn’t seem right to her, even if they were a rather thick array of science books.
The weight of the stack almost tipped Lena over twice. After the second time, she stumbled over to the lockers that lined the wall and leaned against it, raising her leg enough to let the stack rest on her knee for a moment, the strain momentarily relieved her arms as she pinned the books that were atop her knee against the lockers. She let out a long sigh, thankful that the hallway was empty since the students were in their last class period of the day.
Which is why a voice behind her was so startling.
“Do you need help?” a familiar voice chirped behind Lena. The sudden sound made her let out a shriek as all the books tumbled onto the ground in front of her.
“Shit!” Lena huffed out as she recomposed herself against the lockers. She gave no attention to the voice behind her and dropped immediately to her knees, trying to recollect the scattered books.
Without hesitation, Kara, the source of the voice, dropped to her knees next to Lena and began helping.
“I’m so sorry!” she squeaked.
“It’s fine,” Lena responded, her focus still on the task at hand.
It wasn’t until one of Kara’s hands slid over Lena’s as she was gathering a book that she stopped and looked at the blonde woman next to her. Kara’s hand gently closed around Lena’s as she stared at her with a wide grin. A small smile formed on Lena’s face as she gazed into Coach Danvers’ striking blue eyes. They remained that way for a brief moment, Lena’s fingers closing around Kara’s thumb and squeezing it before pulling away.
“Careful, darling, we’re not in your office,” Lena whispered, returning the last book to the neat stack in front of her.
Kara frowned at the statement. “I know. I just… I…” the blonde let out a heavy sigh through her nose. “May I help you with that, at least?”
“I would appreciate that, thank you,” Lena softly smiled, which seemed to brighten the football coach’s mood. Kara grabbed the four largest books from the pile and tucked them under one arm with such ease that Lena began blushing at the sight. She quickly picked up the remaining two books and the duo began strolling towards the school library.
They made their way there, spending most of the walk in a comfortable, peaceful shared silence. Just as they reached their destination, the library’s glass double doors flew open. Michelle and Lisa strolled out, chitchatting about something Michelle seemed to be passionate about until they came face-to-face with Lena and Kara.
“Oh! Miss L, Coach Danvers!” Lisa stammered, stopping short before they slammed into her teachers. She had gotten close enough that Kara had raised her free arm instinctively in front of Lena to protect her from the collision.
Michelle slammed into Lisa’s shoulder, having not been paying much attention. “Hey! Wha--Oh!” Michelle gulped. Her face suddenly turned a deep shade of red as her eyes locked onto Kara. “C--Coach…” she mumbled.
“Hi Michelle, hi Lisa,” Lena said with a chuckle.
Lisa’s eyes were immediately drawn to the books in Lena’s hand. “Oh, you’re taking them back already?” she frowned. “They were so helpful, Miss L.”
“Well I am glad of that,” Lena smiled. “But, it’s not fair for our class to hog them for too long. You’re free to check any of them out if you want.” Lisa nodded enthusiastically at Lena’s suggestion.
Lena gave Lisa a gentle pat on the shoulder. “You two should probably be on your way, yes?”
The suggestion seemed to jolt Lisa into motion as she quickly stood up straight. “Yes, Miss L! You’re totally correct.”
“I’ll see you in class tomorrow, then,” Lena said, waving at the two students and walking towards the library doors.
Lisa waved back, but Michelle remained as she had been: silent, transfixed on Kara, face roughly the shade of a tomato.
“Take care, you guys,” Kara smiled, and followed Lena into the Library, holding the door for the raven-haired woman, and getting another soft smile as a reward.
“B--bye, Co-- Coach Danvers,” Michelle murmured.
For a brief moment, Lisa watched her friend and frowned. The redhead eventually sighed. “Come on,” Lisa said, slapping Michelle on the shoulder to break her out of her stupor.
---
It was mid-afternoon, and school had just let out for the day. There was an hour between the end of the school day and the start of practice. Kara was spending that time in her office, going over paperwork for her players. The game was massively important to Kara, and she instilled that in her players, which is why had made the state tournament two years in a row for the first time in school history, with all signs pointing to a third straight appearance. It wasn’t just the game that was important to her, though. She prided herself on her team’s grade point average, not because they were smarter than students of the past, nor was it that her players cared about it more than players of the past, it was because Kara cared so damn much about it, and put the time in. Setting up tutoring sessions, hosting group study sessions. Their education was part of the game, the part she cared most about them winning.
Kara was scanning through one of her players’, Kenny Rogers, report, smiling at his string of As in Physics, when she heard a knocking at her door. The coach quickly popped her head up, shaken from the focus of what she was doing. Her first thought was that it could be one of her players, or, with any hope, it could be Lena, although she knew Lena was supposed to be on her way to yoga class. Curious, Kara beckoned her guest to enter.
It wasn’t a player that opened her door, nor was it Lena. Instead, it was a young redheaded woman, taller than average and a build that could be best described as ‘lanky’ with a tied-up ponytail that had lost a couple of strands of hair that now dangled around the edges of her face, framing it. Despite her backpack looking stuffed, she was still carrying a couple of books in her arms. Kara vaguely recognized her as one of Lena’s students. She was pretty sure she’s the star one that Lena had mentioned a few times.
“Hi,” Kara exclaimed, rising from her seat and extending a hand. “Lisa, was it?”
The young redhead closed the door behind her, shifted the books in her arms to one side, and shook Kara’s hand. “Lisa Bower,” she responded, with an uneasy expression on her face. “Um, Coach, do you have a few minutes?”
“Of course,” Kara responded immediately, gesturing towards one of the chairs across from her desk. Lisa looked back and fell into the chair. “What can I do for you?” Kara asked, sitting upright in her chair, her hands clasped together as they rested on her desk.
Lisa remained quiet for a moment. It seemed as if she was avoiding Kara’s gaze, and instead focused on fidgeting with the books that were sitting in her lap.
Patience wasn’t one of Kara’s natural virtues, although she had learned a lot of it in the years of working as a high school football coach, especially as a woman in a field that was still 99.9% male-dominated. She gave Lisa as long as the girl needed to muster up whatever she came here for and funneled that natural impatience into fidgeting with her hands.
“I, um,” Lisa finally began, her voice quiet, sounding as if it hadn’t found its footing for the conversation yet. “I was wondering… That is, I was hoping… that maybe you could teach me your style,” Lisa mumbled.
It took a moment for Kara to respond. She was sure she had misheard. After turning it over in her head a few times, Kara realized that she did hear Lisa correctly, which made the bridge of her nose scrunch up.
“Um, I’m afraid I don’t exactly follow,” Kara earnestly admitted.
The response made Lisa blush slightly. She dared make eye contact with the coach for a brief second and gestured in her direction. “You know. Like, your fashion style. Like, your--your presentation. I was hoping you could teach me how to look like you.”
One of Kara’s eyebrows raised. She looked down, glancing at herself. Today’s selection had been a dark navy polo shirt with the school’s logo embroidered over her chest on the left side that was tucked into a skinny-cut pair of beige khakis.
Everything about how Lisa was treating the situation signaled to Kara that this was very, very important. Dire, even. But as Kara looked down at herself, she couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Like this?” Kara asked, a bemused smile on her face. “A simple trip to Target should do,” she chuckled. Kara then drew in a breath, trying to regain the serious composure to match the vibe that Lisa was still giving off. Then, she leaned back in her chair, a question that she didn’t want to ask at the tip of her tongue, demanding attention no matter how uncomfortable it was.
“Is this a prank?” Kara asked point-blank, her voice still cheery, despite the accusation.
“What?” Lisa stammered, her face snapping up to make continued eye contact with Kara for the first time. There was a look of shock and horror on the redhead’s face. “No, Coach Danvers!”
“Then what’s going on?” Kara asked, settling back into a comfortable position, leaning slightly into the desk, attention firmly on Lisa. “Talk to me, kid, what’s on your mind? Because I have a hard time believing this is about fashion.
“I mean,” Kara gestured at herself with one hand, “I don’t exactly have Versace beating down my door or anything.”
Lisa went still again, her gaze dropping down to her hands as they absently tried to twist the spine of one of the books in her lap.
“It’s just… she—I mean, a lot of people, notice you whenever you’re around. And I… I want to learn how to do that,” Lisa practically whispered, a slight quiver in her voice.
The admission made Kara think back. She had run into Lisa a few times, including just last week when she and Lena almost literally ran into Lisa and that friend of hers at the library.
After a moment, a knowing smile formed on Kara’s face. She leaned forward, shooting Lisa as soft an expression as she could.
“You know,” Kara began, her voice gentle. “I don’t think that just copying me is the key to getting anyone to notice you. Especially particular anyones.”
At that, Lisa’s entire face turned beet red. “W—what? I wasn’t talking… about…”
“Hey, it’s okay, kid!” Kara assured her. “There’s nothing to be ashamed of. We can talk about it if you want. We don’t have to though.”
Everything was still for a moment. Then, suddenly, Lisa jumped to her feet. She wobbled for a second, partially from the giant backpack on her back, and partially as a manifestation of how she was currently feeling.
“Actually,” Lisa croaked, “you were right, this is a prank,” she hurriedly added. Lisa gave Kara an awkward, forced smile. “Good on you for not falling for it.
“I have to go,” Lisa exclaimed. She didn’t give Kara any time to react. The young redhead spun on her heel and rushed out of Kara’s office.
“Hey kid, wait” Kara yelled after her. Kara followed as quickly as she could. She darted out of her office and into the empty hallway.
“Lisa!” she called, getting no response.
Kara jogged to the nearest intersection, but Lisa was nowhere to be found. Standing there, Kara cursed at herself, wishing she had handled that better. To lighten her mood, she let herself focus on a lighter idea, one inspired by how quickly Lisa was able to flee the scene, even while carrying that massive backpack.
“I wonder how she’d do at running jet sweeps,” the coach mused to herself.
---
Kara knew that, objectively, she had no right to complain. She had a dream job as the head football coach of the East National City High Guardians, and she was dating the most perfect woman she had ever met. All in all, she was pretty lucky.
From an early age, Kara knew that she wanted to be involved in football. It felt like her calling; like the sport spoke her language. Her road hadn’t been easy, though. One of the first things that Kara remembered being taught was that women don’t have a place in football. It was one of the few lessons that Kara refused to learn. She spent years proving it wrong. It started with making her Pop Warner youth football team as a starting wide receiver, then carried on as she made her high school team. And despite being the third-string receiver, she saw her fair share of playing time, being lucky enough to have one of the few coaches that cared about her talent a lot more than he cared about her gender. By senior year he had made Kara assistant wide receivers coach. From there it was a decade having to prove herself over and over, and each time far exceeding anything that people had expected of her.
One thing Kara never hid was her sexuality. She knew that she was pansexual from an early age and embraced that part of herself from the start. After all, her career path with football was full of enough struggle, she wasn’t going to let her love life be the same. This is why having to keep her relationship with Lena a secret felt so straining to Kara. She understood it though.
Whereas Kara had been able to embrace herself her entire life, Lena didn’t have the same fortune. Coming from a stuffy family that cared only about how they presented themselves to the world, Lena hid who she truly was for a long time. And then there was her last job, a teaching job up in the suburbs of San Francisco. It was a great job until they fired Lena for “encouraging an unbecoming lifestyle” to the students. So despite East National City High being in one of the most progressive districts in California, Lena was terrified to let anyone see the real her.
Well, anyone except for Kara.
---
Kara and Lena had been dating for over eight months, after almost two years of playful courtship. She felt so lucky that she got to see Lena every day, even if some days only briefly. There was a part of her that hated having to keep their relationship a secret; a part of her that wanted to climb up on the roof of the school and scream her love for the raven-haired physics teacher as loud as she could. But, she knew she couldn’t, knew that her undying love for Lena had to remain under wraps, even when they were out together around the city. This is why Kara loved Sundays.
Sundays were their “day away”. Whether it was just down to Long Beach, or San Fernando, or even farther, whatever they could drive to in an hour was an option. It had started as a compromise: if Lena insisted on hiding when they were around the city, then they’d drive somewhere far enough that they wouldn’t run into any students, parents, or faculty. The compromise quickly became the highlight of their week. Beach trips down the coast, picnic trips into the valley, some days they just enjoyed driving and being in the car together and stopping at some random diner along the way.
True, Kara still wished she could hold Lena’s hand when they went to her favorite restaurant two blocks away from her apartment, or to the same dive bar she’d been going to since she had been going to since college, but they made it work. Stolen moments in Kara’s office, romantic dinners at their homes, and their Sunday days away.
It may have been a compromise, but then again, Kara was pretty sure that there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t gladly do to be with Lena.

Chapter 9: Never Grow Up.
The first thing Lena notices when she steps into the room is how huge Eve’s tummy is, it’s really huge. Like, might explode kind of huge. The next thing she notices is, for the first time in years, her family is whole. They’re all together, gathered in the hospital room waiting to welcome the newest member of their family.
this chapter is focused more on the Luthors as a family, they’re all good & kind & care about each other because Lena actually deserves a loving family who loves her & supports her.

robie, i mean this with all the love and affection in the world - you give me the vibes of an intelligent himbo. to confirm my hypothesis, i must ask - did you watch the superbowl last night?
I resent the implication that I can’t be a himbo if I didn’t watch the super bowl. this is hockey, soccer, and basketball erasure.
