a scene that may or may not exist like this in a fic i have yet to write
"So..."
You pretend not to hear him. The Prince is sitting on the stonework just above you; if his voice didn't give him away, the purple boots that land on the ground next to you would. You were given explicit instructions not to speak with him, and considering you like having your head attached to your shoulders and not mounted on a wall where you have a sneaking suspicion they once had one of your relatives, teeth forced open in a snarl you've never really liked pulling, you intend to stick to that instruction. One of the maids told you about him in advance anyway; he's literally all bark and no bite, according to the servants about to rotate out, the ones who have been here the longest, he'll talk your ear off and understands if you don't respond.
("It's unfortunate," one of the other knights had mused, fiddling with ropes and knots while she showed you around. "You can tell he just wants to talk to someone, but he must've caught wind of the fact that we're not supposed to respond because he doesn't even talk like you're there. It's best to just let him get it out and he'll leave you alone.")
"This summer heat has been a real bitch. You'd think they'd give a guy some cooler clothes to work with when the sun literally lights shit on fire if the windows aren't open in the afternoons but nah, too easy, make him work for pants that aren't a thousand degrees."
You can't say you were expecting him to be so... foul mouthed. What appears to be two pant legs land next to the boot, suspiciously unconnected to a waistband.
"The name's Dave, by the way. I know you're probably a stickler for not calling me that because everyone Mom and Dad sends is a stickler for being all formal or whatever --" A cape flutters to the ground and you think he finally settles "-- but if you don't have a stick up your ass consider this official permission to just call me Dave."
(So much for acting like you're not there.)
"You seem different than the other knights they send, but in a cool way. Like, usually they send these big muscly types who talk about how great of a vacation this is. And they're nice and all, but you're actually taking this seriously, so clearly you've got something going on or Mom and Dad wouldn't have strangled you with it."
He says it so, so casually. It makes your blood run cold. You tense, your grip tightening on your sword pommel; you'd never strike at the Prince (you're not dumb enough to do that), but it's comforting to know you're armed.
"Don't sweat it, I'm not going to ask. Even if you could respond that's kind of a dick move. We're just locked up here together, you know? Those guys all have families and pubs they get to go back to with big bonuses and stories about how the crows follow the crown prince wherever he goes after a month, but I've been here my whole life. I don't know how long they've got you here, but considering you're standing right in front of the hallway to me and Rose's rooms I've gotta assume it's a while."
Rose must be the princess. You continue to stare straight ahead and do a pretty alright job of not jumping out of your skin when two hands descend and pull your helmet off. You didn't even -- You know you put that on correctly this morning, how the fuck did he --
"Rose has been showing me some tricks," he seems to answer your internal question. "Good job not slapping me, though, some of the knights they put here have a nasty habit of almost breaking my nose when I sneak up on them. Which, fair enough --" the Prince jumps down from the stonework and you see him for the first time, unfortunately, "-- they don't expect me to know about all of the little buckles it takes to put these suits on, even though a kid could probably figure it out."
The Prince is taller than you, as your gaze laser focused ahead allows you to see. The emblem of Derse is stitched across his tunic and his outfit seems to be missing a few pieces, especially his pants from the knees down. He fiddles with your helmet as he stands in front of you, and you don't even need to expand your senses to know he's staring at you. The one thing you can't tell is with what intent. You don't think he's malicious, perhaps curious? Your grandmother would tease that your scales show when you're nervous, but that was only with magic sight, could he have such an ability? His hands are darker than yours, especially against the clean silver of your helmet, and his nails are manicured and painted a muted red. When he taps them on the metal, you can just barely hear the sound of them making contact. He breathes in like he wants to say something, but lets it out, and the two of you stand in silence.
You dare a peek. No head movement, nothing that disrespectful, but your eyes trail up to see his face. His eyes are hidden behind round, dark pieces of glass spun together with gold wire, but you can't shake the idea that he's watching you; his hair is carefully cut and styled, the late afternoon giving him a sort of halo. His expression is carefully and meticulously put together to be neutral; you can't tell what he's hiding, but you know he's hiding something.
"Just once," he says, holding out your helmet. "Talk to me once. Just tell me your name."
You hesitate. His hand is shaking and he doesn't want you to know. So you don't; you take your helmet, eyes straight ahead with it held at your side, and you say only, "Karkat Vantas."
He smiles. "Nice to meet you, Karkat."
And then he leaves.

Phullo it is I again!
I am very glad that you actually responded and given me an actual advice since I was worried about the question I sent you.
Though besides that I have another question for you (hoorayyy)!
So, about the reading books earlier- I’m fortunately a bookworm too! It’s just that I notice I prefer reading the genre science fiction/psychological horror more than… anything else!
And while the books I am currently reading, ‘Flowers For Algernon’ and ‘I’m Thinking Of Ending Things’ (these books are seriously so wonderfully made they make want to tear my walls), DO have romantic aspects of it- it’s not really the main plot of the story..
‘Flowers For Algernon’ has amazing storytelling and is very unique- though I’m not sure if you’ve read it before but, it’s actually just the main character taking notes. Hence why there was a lot misspellings which honestly makes it a great touch if you know the context behind it.
On the other hand, ‘I’m Thinking Of Ending Things’ too shares the same uniqueness as the other, possibly even more unique if I must say so myself. Though I REALLY don’t want to make my story similar to them since I want to make it more heart warming than fucked up..
Which is why I feel like I have the need to borrow or buy at least one romantic book because, I lack of it. I mean I accidentally borrowed it one time but it was kind of disappointing.
I don’t know if its a good idea and if I should do it or not since does it really matter of the genre, or just the writing?
Still, if you have any good books that are in the romance genre. Feel free to recommend some to me!
-lots of love, from another bookworm
welcome back! happy to hear you're a bookworm as well <3 im writing those titles down since i read a criminal lack of sci-fi despite loving it
i actually don't have any straight up romance recs - i don't actively search it out (outside of fanfic), so any romance i read just comes with whatever book i've picked up. just straight up romance bores me, unless its a fic with a pairing i actively like. and even then, i need to take breaks from it unless the romance is interspersed with an actual plot. im not a romantically-geared person! i dont have single Main Plot Is Romance book on my shelves!
but imo its really just the quality of writing that helps. ive never been in a romance, im the child of two different divorces, and yet ive been told that i write romance fairly well. go fuckin figure lmao.
so actually my advice on romance is to just like. wow idk what i do is pick apart the romances i see on tv / in writing. what makes them good together, how do they act around each other, what are their love languages, what's their dynamic, what traditional romance things do they partake in, what dont they partake in, do they have anything nontraditional, do they work and why do / they dont they - does that make their relationship more interesting or is it flat. are they a good match.
you don't have to have every answer, but ive found that at least understanding their characters / dynamics, and having them interact in a way that suits them will help your romance feel natural. dont conform to tropes or tradition, that will just make the relationship flat and unrealistic. and you can always sprinkle in little things that you like / would like, which will help ground the romance and get you into the groove
tldr with romance, i think it's better to observe real life (whether that's paying attention to couples or reading reddit threads) & analyze in-love or in-a-relationship characters instead of just reading romance novels. bc honestly, and from what i can tell, they can tend to be over the top or cookie cutter
just realized you did not explicitly ask for romance advice! Oopsie! i got a little carried away here....

LETS TALK ABOUT BECKY IVES FOR A MINUTE:
when you think about becky, you have to remember that she spent at least six years listening to terry’s “crazy theories” about hawkins lab, and the big bad man taking jane away. she knew terry took part in “hippie crap” and assumed that messed with her head. that those experiences combined with miscarrying in the third trimester had a terrible stain on her mental health, ultimately losing her connection to reality. she spent those years watching terry fight and lose legal battles against brenner and hawkins. she pleaded for her to stop, to get help, as their relationship grew stressed and strained because becky didn’t believe her, and terry hated her for it.
and then when terry’s mind was completely broken, she spent her days and nights caring for her. honestly the show never touched on this. just what did becky think happened to terry? what story was she told? was terry put into a random hospital with doctors from hawkins lab, under a guise of caring for her, just to tell becky there was some kind of accident? maybe a car accident. did they claim the drugs used in the mk ultra testing from all those years ago took affect on her mind? probably not, because then becky would be in an opportunity to sue. i highly doubt there would have been any mention of the lab, over just some random, "unfortunate accident." it really bugs me that there’s no story about what becky believed made terry catatonic. terry knew becky didn’t believe her, and as such, definitely did not tell her about her plans to break into the lab. so a story could have easily been concocted.
and then, one random day, a kid shows up at her doorstep, claiming to be the daughter she didn’t believe existed. immediately, by jane opening the door with her mind, becky held some kind of belief for she'd heard terry’s rants about her baby being used for experiments, experiments which gave her powers. so in comes jane, demanding to see her mother, able to open a locked door, blood dripping from her nose. all too soon she realises that there has so be some semblance of truth. the girl says her name is jane: she fits all the descriptions. the descriptions of the niece she never had. this child who her sister fought tooth and nail to get back. i can’t even imagine the guilt that would begin to fester for not believing terry, for thinking she was having a mental break, for trying to get her to see therapists and get her some real, serious help.
scared and confused for herself and her sister, and unable to fathom what is happening, what does she do? she comforts jane. there is distance, there’s awkwardness, but this girl is her blood and every moment that passed only proved that she could actually be jane ives. she makes her a sandwich, tries to comfort her, tell her that her mother is in a dream. probably a good dream. she comforts and tells her that terry never stopped believing.
she always believed you were out there. she always believed you’d come home one day.
home?
yeah, home.
she offered her, this strange little girl, a place in her home with her and her mother. she didn’t push, she didn’t need to know everything in that moment; she focused on jane and nothing else. the girl was obviously traumatised judging by the way she spoke, the way she sheltered herself. if everything terry claimed was indeed true, then becky couldn’t even begin to think about what she’d gone through.
i wanna help you, but to really do that, i need you to talk to me, okay? it doesn’t have to be now. it doesn’t have to be today. when you’re ready, okay?
she never moved a single thing in jane’s room. although she didn’t believe terry, she respected and loved her enough to keep it exactly as she’d planned. and at least she could give jane that, the vision her mother had for her, what the first steps of their wonderful life would have been like. becky claimed terry was “stuck” living the “same dream” over and over. where becky, too, was the one who was stuck. terry became 24/7 care, and unless she had helpers (which i highly doubt), becky would have given up her job, her out of home hobbies, her entire life to care for her sister. stuck in an endless routine until jane came along and struck her with the reality of it all.
as soon as jane contacts the void, you can see becky looks on edge and nervous. which, fair enough! she asks if she can sit and watch, but doesn’t interfere or distract jane. she even sits a little further away from her, perhaps out of fear (which would be completely justified. this girl physically moved things with her mind, who knows what else she can do) or just trying to take this all in within her own time and space. but the moment, the second jane departs the void and is in a state of distress, she moves to comfort her. she isn’t sure how, and doesn’t expect it to be returned, but offers it nonetheless. as far as she knows jane just spoke to her sister; she would be dying to know what happened, if she said anything. but remains silent and focuses on the child.
unfortunately we really don’t see much else of their dynamic on screen, but it is very justified that becky contacted hawkins and tried to get a hold of hopper. he and joyce were the only ones who seemed to have some kind of understanding; of course she would want to contact them. she put on a brave face in front of jane, focused on her and her needs. but as soon as she put the bed down and jane wanted some time alone in her room, becky had a moment to breathe. to think about her, her sister, all those wasted years because she didn’t believe. so, weeks later, when she gets a phone call from a weak sounding girl, saying she was sorry, the relief is immense. when recovered from her illness after closing the gate, the first thing jane wanted to do was call her aunt. hopper got on the line after the initial apology and asked if becky would come to hawkins, so they could work things out from there.
i just think becky is such a neat, complex character for the literal twenty minutes (probably less) screen time she gets. i adore the way she treats jane, and think she is such a good influence in her life. imagine all the stories becky could tell her about terry. things no one else could. her relationship with her aunt is one like no other, for both the sake of her mother, and that she is the only true family she has ever known, or as far as she knows, even has. becky never expects anything from jane (unlike a lot of the people in her life), and in that respect, jane does actually open up to her overtime. to becky, jane isn’t a girl who’s saved the world a few times. she’s the niece she didn’t believe in, and would spend the rest of her life making it up to her and terry.

Okkkk so I have another idea and it's a crossover... well sort of I think. Ok imagine that after they turned off the switch they obviously got teleport back to the real world and this time batter was with them . Their personality were still switch unfortunately but it didn't bother that much.
As time goes on batter got used to the way in the real world and lives with the player . Once they were walking around they fell in the hole and came to the underground.
Now the player maybe stotic but they aren't heartless they won't hurt others unless needed to and hopes for a better outcome. Hence they have the soul of hope
As for batter he will obviously be curious about the monster and now he doesn't need to hide his second pair of eyes but once he finds out that there will be monster that might kill them he became protective. He can't be manipulated or be corrupted hense he has the soul of purity (integrity and justice combined, I think)
Soooo maybe write the Undertale characters reaction to them maybe
Also they have very high lv like above 20 for obvious reasons since they killed alot of ghost and gardians in the off world
My Undertale phase was years ago, and I don't really know all that much about the different soul colour, aside from the ones in the game, so sorry if I don't really do it justice (no pun intended)! Also, I'm an OFF imagines blog, not an Undertale one, and this is more of an Undertale request than anything, but I'll make an exception this once because Undertale is near and dear to me ^^;
OFF x Undertale Crossover
Toriel:
When she first saw the two of you, she was amazed but also relieved. Thinking Batter to be one of her kind, she was grateful he took such good care of you, a human, instead of trying to kill you. Even if it was kind of odd to her that he fell down alongside you. How did a monster get to the Surface?
From the moment she saw you it was evident to her that the both of you are fairly strong, which was strange. But still, you didn’t hurt anyone, deciding that acting and sparing monsters is a better tactic than fighting them. Even if the monster by your side was more than willing to fight at times.
In the end, she lets you go a bit more easily than Frisk, but only because you already have a companion by your side. It still takes some convincing, however.
Sans:
From the moment Sans saw you, he was on guard. A human and a monster with so much LOVE meant trouble, regardless of how kind they appeared on the outside and how merciful they were. You had already done your fair share of killing, so it was only a matter of time until you did the same here.
He would approach you as he normally would at first, but definitely makes a few not-so-subtle remarks about the two of you having killed before, even going as far as threatening you if he thinks he needs to. If you want to earn his trust, then leave and leave monsterkind, especially his brother, alone.
At least that’s what he tells you. Sure, he’ll always be aware of what you have done, but if you tell him the truth and keep sparing monsters, even he will grow a bit softer eventually.
Papyrus:
Not completely oblivious to the fact that you have a high level, he mentions it, but also kind of just disregards it. There’s no dust on either of you, just snow. Plus you came in a pair. A human and a monster like this is rare, but the euphoria of having found a human to capture is too great to really consider that.
Hearing about the capturing part definitely made Batter more cautious, but you tell him it’s fine since, more than anything, Papyrus seems harmless, just excited.
Overall, his reaction would be fairly similar to that in the game, aside from a few remarks about how well you can take his hits and how little they affect you. Be prepared for awful puzzles, even worse spaghetti and the best platonic date in history of human- and monsterkind.
Undyne:
Another one that can see that you’re surprisingly strong. Not as accurately as Sans, but she can sense that something is wrong. With her determination to capture and kill you to free monsterkind she will pose a threat. A threat that makes Batter anxious again.
Once all the hostility has passed by showing her that you’re not here to hurt anyone and are in actuality rather kind despite your stoic nature as a human, hoping for the best outcome, and it comes to the platonic hangout with her, she’ll interrogate you openly. But little you tell her will be too outlandish. In fact, the more exciting and cool the adventure you tell her about was, the more likely she is to believe you.
Afterwards, she still will kinda make the comparison between you and Asgore, how you both kill, or killed, out of kindness. But she definitely won’t call you a goofball like him, you are much more serious, after all.
Alphys:
She has watched from the moment you left the ruins, unaware of what you have done in the past. She just believes you’re an oddball of a human with how little emotion you show. Definitely intrigued about the fact you travel with a monster wherever you go and get along this well. Yes, monsters are made of kindness, but they usually attack and don’t stick with humans.
Eventually, she’ll compare you to one of her anime characters with how cool and composed you are and wish to be your friend. Like in the game, she’ll have Mettaton set something up so she, too, can become a heroine in your story, but will feel bad about it and confess herself later on.
If you know about anime get ready to never hear the end. Batter will learn a thing or two about Tokyo Monster and Assassination Schoolroom as well. Kind of unaware of your previous killings because she assumes you’re nice since you treat all the monsters you meet with kindness. Definitely impressed with how well you take all the blows, though.
Mettaton:
It’s his opportunity to rise to stardom outside of the Underground. With a human this cool he will be a hit and his final show will do numbers. And a love story between a monster and a human that isn’t staged? People are going to love the authenticity of it.
Overall very excited to meet you himself, but more for entertainment purposes. Most of what he knows about you and Batter comes from Alphys, so his opinion of you isn’t that low to begin with. But meeting you does send a metaphorical chill down his metaphorical spine. Just who were you to not be affected by any of his attacks at all? It really makes him consider a thing or two during the fight with him.
Asgore:
Seeing you with Batter waltz into the room, he, too, will think the latter to be a monster and smile in melancholy. Seeing a human and a monster get along this well is nice and gives him hope for a future where both can live together in peace and never have to wage war again.
Truth be told, seeing the both of you like this makes him hesitant to fight you. On one hand he has to, for his people, but on the other hand, the grief and remorse would haunt him until the day he dies. Still, he has no other choice and will fight you. Whether you fight back or not is up to you.
Asgore is definitely aware that the two of you have some rather unfortunate and violent history before everything in the underground, but still believes in the kindness you hold, given everything the other monsters have told him about you. Eventually, he will break and refrain from fighting you further, especially if you refuse to fight him for a prolonged amount of time.

sooo is anyone gonna write a daemon!au set in TØP's dema-verse or am I gonna have to do it myself?
#twenty one pilots#TØP#his dark materials#the citizens of dema have no daemons of course#have only the faintest concept of a Time Before Vialism when everyone was haunted by a wild animalistic figure#one that tempted and tricked them and pulled them from their True Path#before the bishops in all their glory freed their beloved citizens from this lifelong torment#trapping the beasts in long glass vials#only then could the people of dema fully focus on and commit to their Life's Purpose#of course clancy is different. clancy dreams. and in every one he dreams of an animal in the shadows#and at first hes afraid. he thinks hes somehow been corrupted#but the small twitching shape in his dreams calls to him#and then!!#he sees a bandito for the first time!!#maybe they're helping other citizens escape or just sowing the seeds of rebellion/trying to get people to think#but as clancy watches them he sees movement at their side#and there it is#some small creature mirroring their every move. their every thought.#and clancy is enraptured#anyway eventually he escapes dema and meets the banditos/the torchbearer and learns the truth abt dema/daemons etc etc#he gets dragged back and/or returns to dema out of fear/brainwashing a couple times bc Cycles#but eventually he manages to ??? break his Vial?? man idk but he's reunited with his daemon and its beautiful#also theres an epic (platonic) love story playing out between him and the torchbearer all along. natch#he helps bring down the bishops and free the city yada yada everyone gets their daemons back#the sheer POTENTIAL here folks!#anyway too bad i dont write anymore

Small but meaningful…
… Nate and Eliot moments I would gif if I could part 1 of ?:
In the Wedding Job:
Their honest conversation about food and assumptions.
Nate grabbing Eliot’s arm to stop him from going after Heather w/ the knife and Eliot not even trying to shove him off and listening to him.
Nate calling the meeting out of concern for a dangerous assassin recognising Eliot and wanting revenge on him.
Eliot immediately going/trying to go whenever Nate asks him to get somewhere, despite being in the middle of cooking.
Nate going to Eliot to move the bag of money and his quite tame reaction to Eliot taking out the Butcher w/ devilled eggs.
Eliot just quickly double checking that Nate really wants him to put the money in that car, then immediately doing so without further question when Nate confirms it.
When the others join them in the kitchen, Nate is pouring a drink but Eliot already has one, indicating Nate poured him a drink first. Probably for killing the Butcher w/ an appetiser.
#Leverage#they're really in the nuances but I'm love them#this is not gonna be in order I'm just looking for these moments now#bc like get me started on Eliot's immediate reaction to the robbery in the Bank Shot Job#but it's stuff like Eliot only going 'this car?' and then doing it when Nate confirms#he doesn't bring it up to the others he doesn't question#he had food cooking but he came to the meeting when Nate called#also Eliot Hates Being Touched confirmed by the writers not immediately shoving Nate off when Nate caught his arm#I think this is the first time we see Nate pull Eliot back and he goes#it happens a few times later on as well but this is the first moment and it's already so just normal#Eliot steps back bc Nate prompts him too#also Nate pouring him a drink first is just funny Xd#man's an alcoholic but they clearly both need it so here you go#also I do think another reason Eliot chooses to cement himself in Nate's corner#is that Nate… doesn't react w/ disgust or horror to what he's done or what he does#even later when the Moreau thing comes up Nate's more angry Eliot didn't tell them than fussed about Eliot's specific crimes#Nate doesn't treat him like a monster Nate just kinda goes '… huh' and moves on#and I think that means a lot to Eliot#which is one of my nitpicks about the over focus on Hardison and Parker#I saw someone say Parker primarily taught Eliot to not think of himself as scary and that's super not true#she had a part but it was all of them and I absolutely think Nate was a major part#Nate respects how dangerous he is but Nate never treats him like any especially horrible monster#he regards Eliot's actions w/ a similar eye as he does Parker's and Hardison's#Nate never makes a huge deal about Eliot's past as an assassin/mercenary and never asks too many specific questions about it#he doesn't ask Eliot what he did for Moreau he asks why he didn't tell them#it's implied Eliot was willing to kill Moreau to keep him away from Nate and the team#and on top of this Nate puts himself between Eliot and killing people/never asks him to do so#listen I love them#Literal Crime Family

I've been thinking a lot lately about how Kabru deprives himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kabru as a character is intertwined with the idea that sometimes we have to sacrifice the needs of the few for the good of the many. He ultimately subverts this first by sabotaging the Canaries and then by letting Laios go, but in practice he's already been living a life of self-sacrifice.
Saving people, and learning the secrets of the dungeons to seal them, are what's important. Not his own comforts. Not his own desires. He forces them down until he doesn't know they're there, until one of them has to come spilling out during the confession in chapter 76.
Specifically, I think it's very significant, in a story about food and all that it entails, that Kabru is rarely shown eating. He's the deuteragonist of Dungeon Meshi, the cooking manga, but while meals are the anchoring points of Laios's journey, given loving focus, for Kabru, they're ... not.
Tumblr media
I'm sure he eats during dungeon expeditions, in the routine way that adventurers must when they sit down to camp. But on the surface, you get the idea that Kabru spends most of his time doing his self-assigned dungeon-related tasks: meeting with people, studying them, putting together that evidence board, researching the dungeon, god knows what else. Feeding himself is secondary.
He's introduced during a meal, eating at a restaurant, just to set up the contrast between his party and Laios's. And it's the last normal meal we see him eating until the communal ending feast (if you consider Falin's dragon parts normal).
First, we get this:

Kabru's response here is such a non-answer, it strongly implies to me that he wasn't thinking about it until Rin brought it up. That he might not even be feeling the hunger signals that he logically knew he should.
They sit down to eat, but Kabru is never drawn reaching for food or eating it like the rest of his party. He only drinks.

It's possible this means nothing, that we can just assume he's putting food in his mouth off-panel, but again, this entire manga is about food. Cooking it, eating it, appreciating it, taking pleasure in it, grounding yourself in the necessary routine of it and affirming your right to live by consuming it. It's given such a huge focus.
We don't see him eat again until the harpy egg.

What a significant question for the protagonist to ask his foil in this story about eating! Aren't you hungry? Aren't you, Kabru?

He was revived only minutes ago after a violent encounter. And then he chokes down food that causes him further harm by triggering him, all because he's so determined to stay in Laios's good graces.
In his flashback, we see Milsiril trying to spoon-feed young Kabru cake that we know he doesn't like. He doesn't want to eat: he wants to be training.

Then with Mithrun, we see him eating the least-monstery monster food he can get his hands on, for the sake of survival- walking mushroom, barometz, an egg. The barometz is his first chance to make something like an a real meal, and he actually seems excited about it because he wants to replicate a lamb dish his mother used to make him!

...but he doesn't get to enjoy it like he wanted to.

Then, when all the Canaries are eating field rations ... Kabru still isn't shown eating. He's only shown giving food to Mithrun.

And of course the next time he eats is the bavarois, which for his sake is at least plant based ... but he still has to use a coping mechanism to get through it.

I don't think Kabru does this all on purpose. I think Kui does this all on purpose. Kabru's Post Traumatic Stress Disorder should be understood as informing his character just as much as Laios's autism informs his. It's another way that Kabru and Laios act as foils: where Laios takes pleasure in meals and approaches food with the excitement of discovery, Kabru's experiences with eating are tainted by his trauma. Laios indulges; Kabru denies himself. Laios is shown enjoying food, Kabru is shown struggling with it.
And I can very easily imagine a reason why Kabru might have a subconscious aversion towards eating.
