Have you seen this childhood show: Wonder Pets! (2006-2018), United States (English)
Commentary/Context/Memories: No user commentary.
[Mod A: This show was about classroom pets who aim to save other animals from dangerous situations that occur outside the classroom (during the night-time/weekends that school is not in session) via their FlyBoat. The pets names were Linny the Guinea Pig, Ming-Ming Duckling, and Turtle Tuck. This show used an innovative animation style called "photo-puppetry" which uses photos of real animals and moves them using Adobe After Effects. The image of Tuck was from Jennifer Oxley (the show creator)’s own pet turtle (a red-eared slider)! I never knew that this show was done in an operetta style (the dialogue is sung this way) and had an original 10-member orchestra music to keep the pace. My parents were big on opera/operetta music (grew up listening to a lot of operas while doing chores as a kid) so if this show came out when I was younger, I would’ve really loved it for the familiar, nostalgic music alone (the live-action images of the animals are a bonus)!]

I'm sorry it took me so long to answer your question. I had to do some research because I had too many possibilities in my head. In the end, there is only one that really comes into question, because all the others are rather river boats or fischer boats. I'm leaning towards a lugger, because a flyboat is too big in my opinion. A lugger was used in the 18th century as a privateer and smuggler vessel, but there were also smaller examples in the 17th century that could be sailed well with only two men, which are then lugger subspecies. Probably something along the lines of a Beer Lugger, a small coastal vessel with a clinker hull and lug sails.

Ah, Dark Heresy, or "how the hell did this 80s-ass game got printed in (checks) 2008"? That's how 40K rolled. Especially since DH characters are basically WFRP-style low-power ne'er-do-wells with the veneer of being Throne Agents. Honestly, what's an Inquisitor doing with a feral worlder that is probably going to meet the business end of a bolter sooner rather than later? Though she got some very good rolls, to be honest. Anyway, good stuff, though it's hilarious how people started cutting it up for all sorts of games. Like Evangelion. Yeah.

It’s a holiday Monday in Canada, so this week’s episode takes a suitably lazy start, with hushed sounds from actually-quite-hardworking musicians Brian Borcherdt, Richard Reed Parry, and Sarah Neufeld. Best known for their work with Holy Fuck (Borcherdt) and Arcade Fire (Parry and Neufeld), their other projects are worlds removed from those stadium-ready sounds, hewing closer to ambient folk and neo-classical. The episode sprawls out from there, but generally sticks with ethereal sounds throughout.

In 2019, a slightly unusual find was made in Kriegers Flak, Denmark, the new offshore wind farm of the electricity provider Vattenfall (no, this is not an advertisement). During construction work they found a rudder.

It is 8.30-metre-long was discovered at a depth of 28 metres and weighs 1.2 tonnes. At the top, the end of the rudder curves forward characteristically with three round ornaments over the tiller.

The marine archaeologists at the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde recovered it and it has been under investigation ever since. It seems to be from either the 17th century or the 18th century, because this rudder design could be assigned to two ship types - a Swedish hooker from the 18th century and a Dutch flyboat from the 17th century. Both were typical transport vessels for this period. Ultimately, only a more detailed examination and a dendrochornological study will be able to tell us more.
Interestingly, only the rudder was found, the ship is not there, which suggests that it may have been lost during a storm.

Citroën U55 "Cityrama"

For decades, Parisians have been able to come across specally designed buses in their avenues that look like space shuttles, or flyboats.
These specially designed Citroën buses where operated by the Cityrama touring company to take tourists around the Capital.
If we go back to the mid-1950s, when the reconstruction after the Second World War has allowed Paris to return to normal life, the time was just right for mass consumption and leisure.
In Paris they started to imagine a new bright future. A future that had already started with the introduction of the Citroën DS in 1955, jet planes flying across the world and many more astounding developments being showcased almost daily. This sparked their imagination of a future based on the conquest of space and flying cars.
In Paris, in 1956, the Cityrama Company was founded by Jean Pierre Dubreuil, who had the idea of transporting tourists in coaches in order to show them the main monuments in a minimum of time. But sitting in a bus, seeing the urban landscape through a small single window is not attractive, or very selling. So the genius idea was to design a bus entirely glazed, offering a full panoramic view to passengers. Therefore the Cityrama Company contacted Currus, the oldest coachbuilder in Paris, and asked them to design just such a bus.
At the Currus Company, Albert Lemaître, technical director of this Parisian coachbuilder, was in charge of the new project and they managed to design and build a bus with a never-before-seen look. Off course fully in line with the futuristic trend of the moment, and above all, with a large glass surface to let passengers admire the Parisian architecture. It even had a panoramic roof that could be removed in summer. Inside, 50 passengers could take a seat in comfortable armchairs with audio phones commenting on the tour in seven different languages.
At least three of these Currus buses have been built on a Citroën U55 chassis. They have been crisscrossing the avenues of Paris for years, always arousing interest as they pass by, and leaving a lasting memory on Parisians.
So the Cityrama Company started its activity after the war very successfully with these space age buses and it was also going to continue to do well after the Citroën U55 Currus as well, but with a new type of Saviem buses, still designed by Currus... But that's another story...
