A few weeks ago, I’ve watched a Wiz Khalifa No Jumper interview from earlier this year. And during the discussion, AD mentioned Wiz having a tendency of going ghost on his friends. When they got to the root of why, Wiz mentioned dealing with depression. Which is a shocker if you ever paid attention to Wiz at any point of his career.
Fast forward to today, Wiz drops his new album on Beyoncé Day. And to my surprise, he has a few songs on here where he’s being vulnerable. Mentioning pivotal parts of his life that possibly played a part in his depression.
The one that stood out to me the most was Homies. First verse was about all of his dead homies from growing up in Pittsburgh to as recent as Mac Miller and Nipsey Hussle. Second verse is about his OG’s and a couple of his peers who helped him get to the position he’s in today.
It’s rare to hear Wiz being vulnerable on his music. I mean very rare. The last time he came close to doing so was on his debut album in 2011 with the song Star of the Show. I could be wrong. But either way, I love it.
