Interview with Holly Pollack, Director of Go Get Glitter

When did you start the company, and what was the inspiration behind it?
We had our three-year anniversary last week. My partner and I are both makeup artists but we’re also best friends, so it was quite competitive between us. One day we just thought, "What can we do that will be fun, enable us to earn a bit of extra money, and let us work together?"
We started by doing events and then a bit more interest picked up. So, we started an Instagram account full of different looks, and it got quite a good reception. Within three months, it became our full-time job doing private and corporate events.
We do full body glitter looks too, so we create clothes using glitter and jewels, and that’s kind of our thing. It’s what we’re known for now. We just love creating looks and doing stuff that people don’t usually do.
Where are the most popular places to get glitter, and how do you decide on the prices?
It varies on how complicated the look is and how much product is used. Some looks use stencils, paint and glitter, so it takes a lot longer and costs more. But then some are slightly cheaper, because we use less glitter.
Most people do go for the cheaper options just because it makes more sense economically. The most popular places do vary depending on where we are. Here, people prefer glitter on their face. At Coachella, people prefer getting body glitter.
Do you get a lot of boys come in here?
We get mostly girls but we do get a lot of glitter beards. When one guy has it, another guy comes over like, “Oh, I just saw a guy with a glitter beard – I want one!” If girls are getting their glitter done, they’ll say to their boyfriend, “You should do it!” I think at festivals like this, when boys start drinking, they get a bit braver.
