Dark Skin Directory
I did one of these for my sideblog BlackFemmeCharacterDependency (BFCD) and... While it’ll take longer on this end to do because there are more prominent figures here than on that one, I thought it would be good to also have one for my main...
EDIT: Okay, so the one that I did for BFCD does not work, so I am posting this one to see if it works, and if not, they’ll both be WIPS until I have the time to repair them
For the purposes of this list and on this page, whenever I say “dark skinned,” I mean a traditional brown crayon or darker. I grew up around Black people, so the words “dark skinned” do not mean the same thing to me as it do to nonblacks.

just had to drop everything for the LOVE OF GOD GENSHIN CONTENT WRITERS
if youre going to include fontianians using cute french nicknames for characters PLEASE remember to use masculine/feminine, it is SO important.
ma < femi, my | mon < masc/neut, my
cherie < femi, dear | cher < masc/neut, dear
such on & such forth
i WILL allow that there is divergence between dialects (qc french is not the same as parisian french, is not the same as acadian, is not the same as haitian french, so on) but that is Generally the rule
signed, someone who did NOT suffer through 12 years of french classes to watch people break these rules willy nilly
small after the fact edit to add 2 things;
1 - in SPECIFIC ROMANTIC SUBTEXTS these rules can be bent and played with, use discretion
2 - NEVER EVER EVER have a younger character / subordinate / lower ranking character use "madameoiselle" towards an older (feminine) character. That is generally considered infantilizing and disrepsectful. If the speaker is equal to or older than the listener then it's fine and even flattering.

In response to one of those typical "I love men!" comments under posts or videos about women.
'These comments are so unnecessary. Do you ever see ones as such in videos about men, where someone comments loving words about women? If men ever "praise" women, most of the time they do it just in a sexual and/or dehumanizing way. As far as comment sections go. Why write this, seriously? Male validation isn't that crucial (you got it only three responses in)*. Appreciate yourself more.
Edit: I am sorry if my words are too harsh, I simply don't know how to tell you this in a nicer way. My point is, why be so nice and appreciative of someone who, for example, is crying about how current society "devalues, silences, puts down, and emasculates men"?* He is blatantly lying to you. Even today, October 9th, 2023, men continue to account for:
- Vast, vast majority of the world's wealth owners
- 99% of rapes (Most notably for their cruelty are wartime rapes. The soldiers during war are often drafted, rather than voluntary, which means that they are your average man. Look up: Nanjing Massacre, Rwandan Genocide, the current Palestinian-Israeli situation, and occupied Germany after WWII)
- 98% of homicides
- 99% of pedophile cases
- 86% of bestiality offences
- 88% of thefts
- 83% of arson cases
- 88% of pimping
- 92% of sex trafficking
- also, around 98% of men have watched pornography. This is important given that over 80% of porn features physical violence against women.
Does that look like emasculation? Or devaluing? Or silencing? I'll tell you what looks like oppression and devaluing and dehumanization and silencing:**
- By the time they reach their mid-20s, 1 in 4 women will experience violence by an intimate partner
- 1 in 3 women worldwide have been or will be subjected to sexual violence throughout their lifetimes.
- Most cases of eating disorders are female
- The infamous wage gap
- Most of the world's poor are female
- Women are more likely to suffer from food insecurity
- The rights of women are not universally recognized (whereas men's, as a class, are). Stonings, honor killings, FGM, period poverty, sex traffic, femi(ni)cide, acid attacks, child brides, rape, molesting, Sharia law, lack of access to education, cyber harassment, revenge porn, lack of a legal identity or name recognition, forced marriages, forced pregnancies, workplace discrimination, period huts, marital rape lesbophobia, deep fake porn... All of these issues happen to millions of women annually, daily, monthly, and weekly. Most of these happen frequently in the Western world too - it is not just a matter of "culture".
And before someone comes at me telling me what a "misandrist" I am - I am not. My comment merely argues, based on empirical evidence, that OP should do some self-questioning, in my humble opinion. If you want me to share the sources, I will, but nevertheless the information is very easy to access. Again, sorry for my initial anger; the guy playing the victims got on my nerves. I hope you have a lovely day.'
[* referring to a comment that said: ´As a man, I appreciate the standing up for us from you. Genuinely, thank you. In today’s society it’s becoming more and more acceptable to put men down, devalue, and emasculate men. We, men and women, need each other and we each serve a purpose. It’s going to take courageous women such as yourselves to make the change in society to find the balance between the sexes, because when men speak out we are silenced, so again, thank you.´]
[** I didn't specify with statistics given lack of time and the character limits. Still, my point stands.]

More Humanized T&F stuff with more peeps. It just tidbits this time.
Edit (3/19/2024): OUTDATED
tw/cw: mentions of transphobia, foster care / adoption
Rebecca is an English-born Indonesian. She's a pan demi-woman, and their pronouns are she/her and they/them (the latter also applies to EoSR!). She works in a school, as a school official (the ones who keep an eye on the school grounds but not the police), and latter as a counselor. They may be buff and strong but she has feelings. 😭 They is quite tall, taller than 5'6". She married Gordon in her thirties, who they met at the school they works at.
Gordon became the new principal when Rebecca had been at the school for a couple years. There were rumors going around the school that she picked up from a few students that they often speaks to. These rumors claimed that Gordon had been stripped from his previous job as a principal at another school and went under a different name. This was all false when Rebecca confronted him about it, which was their first private interaction. They has met him before but that was in group meetings.
Gordon is the oldest and only living brother of Scott (Flying Scotsman), though he's slightly shorter stature makes it seem like he's the youngest. He would take it as a compliment if Scott didn't rub it in his face though. All I have is that he's British or at least has lighter skin. 💃 He's also demiromantic straight. That's about it. Rebecca probably calls him some cat related nickname because of his face. (HE LOOKS LIKE A CAT, A PATHETIC ONE AT THAT. ESPECIALLY HIS MODEL ERA FACES)
Speaking of siblings, Emily and James aren't biological siblings. Emily's parents adopted James after his parents abandoned him and was taken to an orphanage, having been to two foster homes. He's much better now. I'm saying this rn because they're both black. Emily is a black British aroace cis-woman and James is a French-born Moroccan bisexual man. He hates his parents with a burning passion, who tried coming back into his life. Emily is 8 years older than him.
James loves doing drag. He's not letting anyone stop him. He also loves fashion, especially making it, which has led him to chase his dream of becoming a fashion designer. It's a very long journey but he knows he'll get there. Good for him! <3 Oh, and he does crotchet! He's been doing it since he was adopted. Mock him and you can expect him to start throwing shit. Don't disturb the crotecheting Jimmy. He also listens to Lizzo, Corneille, and Stromae religiously because I said so. But what James currently works as? Probably a bartender at a bar or cafe. Not much, but he's trying. :'D
Emily and Edward are childhood best friends, somewhat starting off as pen pals after Edward's family moved to back to Scotland for a couple years. In their teen years, Edward or Emily would make trips to visit each other. James heard and saw him but he never got to talk to him.
Speaking of Edward, when he came out, he believed his parents were supportive. The way they acted was becoming questionable up until he left. One day he tries calling them and he finds out his number was blocked. He tried numerous times before contacting his siblings, who tell him the truth. His parents were supportive on the outside just so they could get rid of him sooner. He feels very confused about it. Like aye, but naw? His parents haven't contacted him ever since he left to be on his own. He's still in contact with his siblings, starting a private Instagram to share stuff with them only.
How James and Edward met? I don't know. 🧍♀️Edward is 7 years older than James. In the old AU, they would've gotten married this year, which is my graduation year! :D My best friend pointed this out in a conversation the other day which I thought was pretty cute. It was not intentional.
Edward is also a white gay Scottish transman. He had top surgery and took hormone medication for a while. Edward is what I would consider an androgynous man, neither masculine not feminine, or he's a mixture of both. In this case, he's both. He wears whatever like James does. They'd probably wear dresses the same day because why not. Also his hair is red/ginger. 💃
I think that's it. These thoughts wouldn't leave me alone. 💀

How do your OCs express affection?
I was tagged by my dear husband @theskeletonprior! Thank you for tagging me! Hmmm... I think I shall tag @jess-p-edits, @the-void-writes and @thelittlestspider Plz tag me in your responses so I can read about your characters! I love romance and affection and intimacy in writing so very much, so I'd love to hear <3
FEMI
Protectiveness which comes for much more than bodily safety is the fiercest show of love she knows. There are things that can be damaged that take longer to heal than flesh and bone, and those things she will protect and honor for those she holds dear. There's also the fact that there's always something that can be given to offer comfort and contentment, a kiss or a meal or a kind word, even things given in pain if she can give them will be given out of love. Caring for others is, to Femi, about being a safe place to land, a haven in storms and being an external source of honor, validation and respect. When she cares for someone, she takes it upon herself to represent them, defend them, and most of all carry the truth of their personhood in completion and with the grace to love their flaws as much as their virtues.
MERCUTIO
For someone who thinks surely his love is some sort of curse, he is quick to give it up and share it, and not quick to let it go out. He's steadfastly loving in a quiet, subservient way. Love is sacrifice, a free fall of giving up and giving up and giving up, and hoping what's given back is enough to not leave you emptied out. Luckily he makes himself difficult enough to handle that people who will leave do leave quickly, which is best for them, even if he'll quietly love them long after they're gone. He's got a hyperbolic idea of what love is supposed to look like, and has to remind himself that there are small gestures which count for it, that aren't just passing fancy or simple kindness. Small things can be love too, not just kneeling to wash feet or hanging oneself from a tree, it's not always the ultimate sacrifice or the most blatant show of humility. He shows love in those tiny ways constantly, without even knowing he's doing it and someone who knows this truth about love better than him might see he is being loving long before he realizes it.
IPHIGENIA
Iphigenia believes that the business of loving anything or anyone is to know it inside and out, better than anyone. To love something well, you must understand it, be able to care for it expertly, to sometimes do what's best for it even if it doesn't know any better. They've poured this sort of love into understanding the natural and supernatural world, but when that love is turned on people, it's often arduous. People are unpredictable at best and everything requires subjective context in a way Iphigenia can't apply their scientific mind to. But learning and failing and trying again, better, that's love even more than knowing with certainty when it comes to people. Love is a wonderful, difficult experiment and for them no matter how small or large the hypothesis, being willing to try, fail, try again better, is how they show they care to see conclusive results.
DOLCEZZA
It's really rather simple. Give what you can, forgive what can't be given, love like it is the last moment you'll see each other and like you've the rest of your lives to play at it all at once. Love must have grace and humor and humility. Love is virtuous, even a cruel, evil person can have it and be at least said to be human. It's important too, to let love lead-- there's a lot of love missed by listening to good, cautious sense. Love is simple, but it certainly isn't about being sensible. It's a beautiful, quietly consuming madness, and Dolcezza lets it rule him, lets every impulse to kiss or give or run or share go answered, even if it's scary or humiliating. Those sorts of feelings only live long if they win out, but those fear born emotions never worth the trouble of not expressing love.
LEOPOLD
Leopold has loved and lost so much that the two are inextricable from each other, so loving is a constant preparation for loss. That means all the time spent must be meaningful and sincere, that memories must be made and all the details should be retained. The risk has to be worth it, and if it is, you cannot turn back, you shouldn't. And of course there's loyalty. Loyalty is even above love, to Leo- even if you've fallen out of love in some way, even if there's love without liking or fondness, loyalty can't be rescinded. It's owed, for earning his love, even if you've lost it along the way. So even if the love has long gone, you could pick up the phone years after that dwindling and call on Leopold's loyalty and help and he would give it willingly.
JANE
Joy is at the heart of any expression of affection for Jane. It's often shown with humor, laughter is an essential part of feeling love, but there's also other joys; elation, relief, pride, victory. Any sort of companionship with Jane comes with a constant celebration of every form of joy. If there's no laughter and joy, if it's too serious and sincere, it doesn't ring true to the ever changing nature of life as a warrior, as a space traveler, faced with the very serious and sincere universe. Trust is very important too- not the sort of trust that allows things to go unsaid, but the sort of trust that asks 'will you jump off this bridge with me?' and prompts the answer 'any time, any day, say the word, babe.' Trust that feels a little insane, that makes impossible things possible. Jane gives the sort of love that will run with you to the edge of the world, and jump clear off just so you don't go over into the unknown alone. Better yet, she'll make sure you're both howling with laughter all the way down.

The Art of the Edit
For many, the cold months from November to March are known simply as winter. But for cinephiles and celebrity lovers, this past winter was film awards season, when films such as Barbie, Anatomy of a Fall, and Oppenheimer were nominated for the coveted trophies. While watching the Oscars with my mother I gave my opinion on actors and she asked which of the movies I had seen. I told her the truth: that I had not watched many of these films, but rather that I had seen edits of the actors on TikTok set to catchy bubblegum pop music.
For a decent percentage of Gen Z, the art of the TikTok edit is how they know what’s hot in entertainment and how they comment on social events. However, the differing perspectives on what edit culture means can make the issue more complex than it appears on the surface. For specificity, I will be looking into online fandom spaces that are occupied by mostly women. By investigating a sort of social third place for women, we can observe the discourses and trends that arise in such a separated online space. In this post, I’ll be focusing on the discourse between editors, the audience, and how men are portrayed in this female-dominated online space.
As with most things related to modern fan culture, edits can be traced back to the original Star Trek fandom. The first recorded edit was created in 1975 by Star Trek fan Kandy Fong, who put together clips of the show set to William Shatner’s song “It Was A Very Good Year”. In the early years of fan editing (known then as “vidding”) edits were hard to come by, as they used scrapped film and distributed them via VHS tapes at conventions. With the dawn of the internet, these transitioned to online forums and later YouTube, which prioritized longer videos that usually lasted the length of a song. An infamous example of this is the Josh Hutcherson “Whistle” Edit, which recently resurfaced and was replicated like that of “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley. The reason that the Whistle Edit became so popular again was due to its outdated editing style. It was compared to the edits of today, which are churned out by hundreds of thousands of editing accounts with often professional-level production. One must wonder why so many fans find themselves as editors when it is a form of media often looked over.
One possible interpretation of edit-making is a desire to simply express oneself through an art form. Many editors will describe their satisfaction at completing a project and posting it to adoring followers, or at nailing a certain transition-music combo that has people gasping in admiration. There’s a joy in creating without the pressures of capitalism that demand that every project should be made into a profitable side hustle. Simply put, it’s a hobby and one where thousands of fans, mostly young women, are teaching themselves video editing terms, applications, techniques, styles, etc. Don’t let the sheer quantity of edits confuse you: editing is not easy. Needless to say, it is an art form and a process that is entertaining and educational to those who create it.
But these are usually made with the intent of reaching an audience, of course. I’d like to propose the idea that fanworks are a form of communication similar to gossip. Both are looked over for their informal, non-profitable, and female-dominated nature, but are important for strengthening social bonds and communicating information about what groups deem important, appropriate, humorous, etc. When someone posts a Lord of the Rings edit of Eowyn, they can open the floor for their audience to discuss the issues with sparse gender representation in their favorite franchise. When someone posts a popular edit of a Call of Duty character with bows in their hair, they are poking fun at a male-dominated fandom’s distaste for anything feminine in their violent male fantasy game. Edits can speak to admiration and criticism of the media, even in an informal setting such as TikTok. As feminist scholar Silvia Federici writes, “It is women who ‘gossip,’ presumably having nothing better to do and having less access to real knowledge and information and a structural inability to construct factually based, rational discourses. Thus, gossip is an integral part of the devaluation of women’s personality and work…” In the same way that gossip is deemed as “idle female talk”, women’s hobbies are derided despite their role in learning and social communication.
However, this discourse can be very male-focused, which is one of the pitfalls of fandom. The majority of edits are of men, whether to highlight emotional moments or to express sexual desire. This attitude differs between and within fandoms, but the fact remains that even in many female-dominated spaces, men are centered. This can partially be attributed to the female gaze, this desire to gaze at men and express one's desires for emotional vulnerability, complexity, intimacy, etc. By taking media that is created through the male gaze and purposefully transforming it, editors can partake in the creation. They make space for themselves. This subculture reaction comes at a time when the dominant media is having another moral panic crisis against discussions of sexuality. In many ways, it’s a reiteration of conversations that have been happening for decades. A grown woman discusses explicit books online with friends or a teenage girl makes an edit of a celebrity she finds attractive, and suddenly they are obsessive and mentally unwell. Hollywood is clear about one thing: sex sells. Except, of course, if erotic materials are created and curated in the hands of women.
But I also wonder: where does this leave queer fans? These online spaces reflect the real-life complaint many queer women have, which is that hanging out with straight women means that they might only talk about the men in their lives. Lesbian fans must carve themselves a smaller niche within their respective fandoms, rejected by the rest of their peers. Some solace can be found in speculative queer fanworks, but even there men are centered. Statistics on TikTok edits are difficult to pin down, but we can look at another example of transformative fanworks. The popular fanfiction website Archive of Our Own reported that as of 2023, of the twenty top pairings written about, only one pairing had a female character. None of these pairings were a woman-loving-woman relationship. There’s also the issue that lesbian fans’ sexualities are questioned when they create fan-content about men. There is the implication that for a woman to be a fan of something, they must be interested for romantic or sexual reasons, which is demeaning and dismissive. It seems that even in female-dominated spaces, the hegemonic ideal of male supremacy unfortunately prevails.
Our external biases and hegemonic influences can affect what we enjoy and create, and it is important to be aware of these and actively work against them. Nevertheless, kudos must be given to the editors who provide their audience and peers with works of art. It is an underappreciated act to transform a dominant piece of media into something for an alternative audience. Editing provides a space for female fans to find community and feel safe in expressing both the creativity and sexual desire that they might be shamed for in other spaces. So the next time you see a Swann Arlaud edit to “Comme Des Garçons ” by Rina Sawayama, know that just like the boys, women should be confident in loving their interests.

« In Transit »
In this piece « In Transit », CHAO Shu-Jung first collects and records poems, essays and songs about rain and water from different countries. Afterwards, she transcribes them onto strips of paper, which in darkness, rain and mist slowly fall into a pile in time with the rhythms of the songs and the cadences of the recited poems. To the artist, the rain and water represent philosophical, literary and aesthetic viewpoints, which exhibit a labyrinthine visual metonymy in space and time, like the sense of distance and vacancy between people.
In this piece, she tries to guide the viewer on journey of experience through varied sounds and sights amid unfamiliar words and languages, arousing a deeply layered sense of alienation and giving the viewer’s conscience the chance to interact with the exterior world, producing a continually expanding shock and reverberation.

Marijus Aleksa - As They Are
Throughout his remarkable international career, Lithuanian drummer & producer Marijus Aleksa has established himself as a bonafide shaman of rhythm. From making his debut at the Vilnius Jazz Festival at the tender age of thirteen, he has grown into a stage partner of some of the world’s most celebrated stars (such as Keyon Harold, Grammy award winner Bill Laurance, Joe Armon Jones, Ashley Henry, Dennis Rollins, China Moses, Ben Marc, Anthony Joseph, Femi Temowo, Oscar Jerome). An ambitious drummer and percussionist, he relies on his technical prowess and visionary endeavours. Through his work as a heralded band leader, session musician and solo artist, his music is not unlike the works by the abstract expressionist painters: rich in colour, vivid, intuitive and hypnotising, traversing musical maps by blending the worlds of jazz, rock, world and electronic club music.
With the concept of collage forming a central theme of the record, 23 people from different parts of the world (Lithuania / USA / UK / Cuba) each contributed to the creative flow of the musical creation, forming a rich sonic tapestry - formed of 3 years of recording and re-editing jam sessions, creating a spellbind final piece constructed from smaller pieces that in the first instance may have seemed incompatible. This sensibility was also applied to the track titles, which were created by segmenting common phrases and reforming them. The artwork was also created by Japanese collage artist Mt.Chills.
Marijus Aleksa - drums, synths & drum machines, production
Domas Aleksa - bass

NDLEA to host heads of antinarcotic bodies in Abuja
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, says delegates from 54 African countries and 15 observer nations will converge in Abuja next week for the 31st meeting of Heads of National Drug Law Enforcement Agencies, Africa, (HONLAF) to discuss new trends and partnerships to curb the global drug scourge.
A statement by the NDLEA Director of Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, announced this on Tuesday at a joint press briefing by the Secretary to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Shadrach Haruna and the Country Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, UNODC, Oliver Stolpe.
According to the statement, the agenda will feature discussions and collaborations on alternative development to cannabis cultivation, assets forfeiture, cryptocurrency and money laundering by drug cartels, among others.
Haruna represented the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) of the NDLEA at the briefing.
He said the 31st meeting was to enable heads of drug law enforcement agencies in Africa, discuss and develop strategies to combat drug trafficking and abuse in the region.
“The HONLAF meeting is an annual event. The last one was held in Nairobi, Kenya, where Nigeria was unanimously elected as the host of the 31st edition, which will take place from Tuesday, September 26 to Friday, September 29, 2023, in Abuja.
“This annual HONLAF meeting features a line-up of activities that include technical meetings, paper presentations, deliberations on reports and trends, workshops, and bilateral talks among member nations. It is a platform for brokering collaborations in the areas of shared intelligence, joint training, and joint operations against international drug cartels in the African region.
“This year, Nigeria has the honour of being the chair and host of the meeting. So, it means delegates from 53 other African countries will converge on the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Monday, and for the rest of the week, they will be guests of NDLEA and the Federal Government of Nigeria.
“Aside from delegates from African countries, there will be representatives from observer bodies and other non-African countries who will be attending to watch the proceedings”, he said.
President Bola Tinubu is expected to deliver the keynote address and also declare the conference open as the special guest of honour while the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and some invited ministers as well as heads of relevant parastatals and agencies will be at the opening ceremony.
In his remarks, Stolpe said the HONLAF meeting will also focus on “regional and national cooperation to reduce illicit production and cultivation of illicit drugs and manufacturing of other drugs like methamphetamine.

The bitcoin non-profit, Btrust, co-founded by rapper Jay-Z and Block CEO Jack Dorsey, has acquired the bitcoin talent company, Qala.
Following this acquisition, Qala, an organization that provides training for African bitcoin and Lightning engineers, has been rebranded as the Btrust Builders Program.
According to reports on Sep. 6, the deal is a bitcoin-talent-developer-qala/?sh=4c7a777c2567" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">synergistic acquisition to advance bitcoin development in Africa.
While Btrust has the financial resources, it didn’t have the structure to develop the African bitcoin talent pipeline.
Today, we are thrilled to share a monumental story in our journey. We have officially become part of ₿trust @btrustteam! This has led to our rebranding as ₿trust Builders – marking a pivotal shift in our operations to focus on open-source training in bitcoin and Lightning. pic.twitter.com/kjSkpv8Sbc— Btrust Builders (@btrust_builders) September 5, 2023
On the other side, Qala has the system in place but is lacking the resources to achieve its goal sustainably since, as a social enterprise, it doesn’t earn revenues.
Prior to this agreement, Qala relied on grants from organizations, including Coinbase Giving and $100,000 from the Human Rights Foundation.
Qala’s CEO, Femi Longe, and Stephanie Titcombe, a program manager, are now set to join Btrust as program leads for the new Btrust Builders program.
The program will shift focus to open-source training, with an invitation for senior African Software developers to participate in bitcoin and Lightning development.
