Eat up, boy
Part 2
Sam looked perplexed at the house in front of him- on the outside, it looked like any ordinary property in mid-Texas,somewhat perplexingly unfit to house the myth that had become his father.
“No time to waste now- I’ve come so far after all and , well, I don’t really like the alternative”
And with that thought in his mind, Tom had knocked on the dim yellow wood that made the door slightly squirm.
“No response” he murmured red. “I’ll just have to try again”
And with that thought in mind, he knocked. Again. And again. He was on the verge of giving up, until the door suddenly opened
“What?!? Can’t a man eat in peace in this place?”
That was not his dad, but a man who seemed somehow familiar. Sporting a white undershirt that was barely covering his expanding middle-section, he seemed to weigh at least 240 pounds. His arms were burly and slightly hairy, and while his hairline was receding, he seemed to have a plethora of thick, black chest hair proudly on display. His face was complimented by a beard that almost hid out his double chin, and his eyes were a deep green.
“And who are you, young man?”
“I-umm… Don’t you recognize me, Uncle Aaron?”
At that moment, his eyes widened in owe as he quickly examined Tom, with his gaze finally fixating on his belly, or rather, his lack thereof
“My god, Tom, what happened to you?!? Come inside, quick”
His house was exactly as Tom would have pictured it. Food cooking all over the kitchen, empty and full beer cans alternating throughout the living room and a general sense of coziness and comfort.
“Here, take this” said Aaron while handing him a beer. “Please make yourself at home while I make you some food. Pizza or burgers?”
“I’ll have a salad, thanks”. With that, the mouths of both men remained open. Not even Tom could believe what had happened to him.
“Both, I see” assumed Aaron. It’s worse than I thought. What happened?”
The last time Aaron saw him must have been on his graduation day, when he was still sprouting a healthy belly and a voracious appetite. He remembered how proud his uncle was of him, and how he couldn’t stop complimenting his manly looks. “You look so much like your old man that it nearly makes me cry” he used to say.
“It was your mom, wasn’t it? something in his tone spoke of heavy animosity, while his eyes exhibited his disdain. She never liked us. She married your father and swore to change him, feeding him rabbit food and making him run for hours every day. She took away his happiness for her own, pound by pound, and when he suddenly decided he had had enough and decided to eat good for once- poof, she filed for divorce.
Suddenly, he stopped, while his hand startes to gently massage his belly “We, Henderson men have always proudly displayed our guts. My father had one, so did my grandfather and even my grand-grandfather! Being hefty is in our DNA, we were all fat and lived long, full filling lives. To take that away from us is cruel and unnatual.”
Looking straight into his nephew’s eyes, he gently touched his abdoment
“Are you happy now, Tom”
“No” he quickly replied. Not at all.
“Do you miss your normal body, s-“
“Yes!” He practically shouted.
“Good” said Aaron with a glimmer of pride in his voice. “If that’s the case, then it’s time to eat up, boy”
