Ferrari’s 365 GT4 2+2 would prove the longest running design Maranello ever created - as the 365, the 400, and finally the 412, it lasted 17 years. In the 1980s it was the 512 Testarossa, 288 GTO, and F40 - not the sharp-suited but graying 412 - that got all the headlines. The last of a long line, it seemed unlikely that there would be any more front-engined GT Ferraris once the 412 was retired. Still, there were customers who wanted such a car and Ferrari were working on one. At the Paris show in 1992, 20 years after the 365 GT4’s debut, the “gentleman’s Ferrari” was reincarnated as the Ferrari 456GT. - The subtle, soft lines of the 456 meant that after it was no longer brand new, it often played the same background role as its predecessor. The understated look of the car came from Pininfarina’s Pietro Camardella and his boss Lorenzo Ramaciotti, which might be surprising as the first car the pair worked on was the Ferrari Mythos concept - a car as extroverted as the 456 was delicate; but they were *very* versatile. Their pens created many stellar designs - from the Honda Beat (Camardella) to the Peugeot 406 Coupe (Ramaciotti) among many others. The prolific Ramaciotti would later head design at FCA. Until 1996, 456s were also assembled at Pininfarina. - The old F101 Colombo V12 in the 412 gave way to the new F116 V12, derived from the Dino V6 family and for a brief period the four-seat 456 was the most powerful Ferrari around - with 436hp. But the 456 was not about 0-60 times (which were good for the time, but not the fastest). It was about devouring long distances in comfort and style. Under new chief Luca de Montezemolo, appointed in 1991 by Gianni Agnelli, Ferrari developed a much more overtly sporting front-engined flagship. That was 1996’s 550 Maranello (replacing the F512M), which evolved out of the 456 - but the 4-seater remained a popular (for a senior Ferrari) car, now with the addition of, famously, an Automatic, the 456GTA. - The 456 ran into 2003 as the Modificata (456M) after a major 1998 under-the-skin update, and also gave birth to several coachbuilt specials from Pininfarina - sedans and wagons - before being replaced by the 612 Scaglietti. Challenge #02306-F116: Expressions of Exasperation
any day is a good day when you're not on fire
alien looks over nervously -- Anon Guest
Humans have such interesting ways to express disappointment with their life at the moment. They can range from the simple and insincere, "Kill me," to the complicated and difficult to explain to newcomers, "Today... the spiders flakked me." One can never tell which of the multitude of expressions any given Human would use.
Qosyk, the roommate of Human Jae, kept hearing different ones for every bad day that Human Jae had. They were not frequent downturns, but they were always varied. The first, Qosyk would always remember. Human Jae came back to their shared quarters just as Qosyk had settled into hir sleepy sack. This was not the typical exchange.
Qosyk said, "How has your day been," in a display of casual non-information gathering. Ze expected the usual, "Same old same old," but didn't get it.
