2569 words - Maxiel - Post-apocalyptic/Fantasy for the @f1fantasyfest
Daniel wished the world had ended five years ago like everyone said it would. Death is probably a better fate than walking around on Earth, wondering how many other lives there are left or if he is the only one out here, in this jungle that was once bursting with lights, open shops, cars, and people. It’s crazy to think how disaster struck so quickly, how easily it wiped out more than half of Earth's population in just a couple of months. No one saw it coming, no one was really prepared when disaster struck.
Right after his family passed away, he fled Australia with nothing but a backpack filled with a change of clothes, a water bottle, some food and his phone. In a few short weeks, he had to learn a couple of things to stay alive. He started to hunt for his meals, look for signs of dangers along the road, and become good at every other manual activity he needs to survive.
His father would be proud to see his makeshift solar phone charger. He would be proud of how far Daniel has come. Daniel doesn’t like to think about them too much, it hurts to know they aren’t there anymore, that he’s left alone to stand on this deserted planet, looking for shelter until his end comes.
He’s been wandering for four years now. He found his travelling companion in South Asia, after a year of walking and biking around. Daniel first thought he was dehydrated or hallucinating when he first saw it, the skeleton of an animal staring at him with two bulging eyes. He wasn’t sure what kind of animal this was, if he ate or if he was out to kill him. When the animal just sat next to him and rubbed his bones against Daniel and saw how armless it was, he named it Honey.

F1 fanfic recommendations for the sleepover !
I LOVE THIS. thank you anon. i need to make an actual fic rec list someday soon but for now, here is a list of some of the fics that live in my head rent free. i’ll include links to all of them of course <3 these are mostly fluff, and all happy endings because i am soft and that’s what i like.
i’m going to start off by surprising absolutely no one and recommend literally everything written by @wolfiemcwolferson, (tiredtiredsharl on ao3) because they are my favorite and i love them, but specifically, i think you should read the leave this blue neighbourhood series because it has actually changed my life.
clearly i am very strongly a piarles girly (gn) so i recommend following along with the piarles winter fic exchange. i literally recommend and endorse every single writer in the exchange server because they are all so talented and wonderful. i mean that genuinely - i feel so lucky to be part of such an incredibly talented group of people. i mean this from the bottom of my heart and i would be here for hours if i recommended each one of them individually.

whatever our souls are made of (his and mine are the same) by empireoffclouds - when i say that i think about this fic every day i am not kidding. when i first read this fic, i cried 95% of the time (all of the emotions, but i promise there is a happy ending). when it was over i sat in my bed and stared at the wall for a solid twenty minutes. i will never have the words to express the beauty of this fic.

Whispers Can Echo by welightitup (@welightitup) - this is the fic that got me absolutely hooked on piarles and i haven’t looked back since. coincidentally, this was written by the 4th lovely PWFE mod and 10000% why i joined the exchange.
ok, i promise i don’t only read piarles. just...mostly. logan is 95% of the reason i read anything other than piarles so i don’t have a ton of recommendations for other pairings. if anyone has more galex, carlando, maxiel, or sewis recommendations please slide into my DMs thank you very much.

Making Time - i don't know what it is with this fic, but i come back to it over and over again. it's so very personal to me, because i almost deleted the entire thing a few times because it wasn't right, but then i posted it and the reception i got was so positive i cried
if it weren't for the everything - oh piarles fantasy fest my beloved. a song fic that escalated into something so different to anything i have written before. genuinely some of my best work (and thank YOU for all the guadance along the way).
Other People Problem - part one of my pierresteban woke up a girl series that was only ever meant to be a one shot. it was my first time in the trope as well, and i keep thinking about adding a 4th part to the series.
Under Your Skin - my second ever posted f1 fic, i agonised over writing this during nanowrimo last november alongside several other things, and im so pleased with how it turned out.
Crème Pâtissièrre - if only for the way dees made a stupid pun about stuffing that french tart full of cream, call that pierrefiterole, and 66 hours later including the time i was working, at the yard, and asleep i had almost 6k words of nothing but porn

I loved your fantasy piarles and it’s probably my favorite fantasy au ever! The whole universe and magic was so cool and such big brained energy! I have to ask is there any more background or snippets you could give of the other characters? I’m so intrigued about Maxiel (Max was probably my favorite side character and loved the way you described him) and Carlando (Did they end up together forever and what is their life like?!?). LEWIS I have so many questions about and Seb and his sad farm!!!!!! (Is there Sewis?!). Now that I’m thinking about it Kimi and his pack!!! GEORGE AND ALEX (rich billionaire immortal boys just trying to live normal everyday lives) Ahhhhhhh I’ve read it three times already and I just keep thinking about it over and over.

Let me tell you some things about this world because I built such a little world in my head as I was writing this fic.
Max was the first character that I conceptualized for this fic. I was writing this fic at the same time I was writing the Carlando piece of Blue Neighbourhood and I didn't know if I was going to write this as a Piarles story or a Carlando story. (It was meant to be a Piarles story though.) I knew who Max was going to be.
Obviously in this world, all immortal creatures are born and Max's father (who is powerful, but not as powerful as he'd like to be) had children with a very powerful witch essentially to...get the strongest children. Evil, vile man. Much like Jos IRL. Anyway, Max is raised in isolation with his father chasing some kind of something, he's never really sure, but he knows it's like A Big Deal.
He meets Charles at one of the only summits he's allowed to go to and they become friends and it's the first peak at a real life and then he somehow convinces his father to let him go away to study and that's how he meets Daniel. Charles absolutely encourages that and they fall in love.
Jos finds out about it and freaks out and starts to hunt them with some of his shady people and they bond with the help of Max's mom (who he hasn't seen in a long time).
When Jos discovers them, he is beside himself and that's when he goes after Max's sister, but the bonding really took it out of Daniel and Max so they can't go after him, so Charles does. And that's where the life debt comes from with Max.
Daniel really just spends the next hundred years showing Max the world before they buy a place in New York.
Now, Carlando.
They do end up together. Something that I didn't mention in the epilogue that is just pure HC is that Charles and Pierre and Co. work out the ritual to not just make vampires, but also werewolves. (And they make it happen without nearly ending in death all around.) ((And this is also what Jos was chasing - The Big Thing.))
I mentioned Carlos was studying native animals when he met Lando and Carlos would really rather be a werewolf. He's 35 when Lando turns him and then Lando takes him to see every single mountain range in the world and listens to his endless lectures.
Lando and Carlos eventually settle down outside of Serra de Tramuntana in Spain because the entire island is actually wolves - which they discover while they're visiting.
It turns into kind of a preternatural getaway resort type of town within the century and Lando finds the family he's been looking since his birth packs death.
Lewis and Seb and Kimi:
"They're the old generation". In that, they're all much older than the others and they were the ones who "broke tradition" and kind of paved the way for the younger crowd to have the lives they do.
In my brain: Seb and Lewis come and go out of each others lives because Lewis likes to travel in his plane and rubs elbows and do what he wants and Seb is happy to have his farm and give a place to preternatural creatures who need a place to recover. They're happy. It works for them.
Kimi continues to run Seattle with his rogue pack and he loves being out of the preternatural world - but he's always begging the kids to stop dragging trouble into his land.
George and Alex:
They really just want to live their lives. George is a doctor and he loves being a doctor and Alex runs through all kinds of occupations - he owns a diner, he's a teacher for a little while - at a human school.
But then you know, Charles and Pierre take in the witchling child (but then there's a werewolf cub and they even foster a selkie for a little bit while Seb finds a family of selkies to take them in, but they end up with two witchlings, a werewolf, and a vampire for keeps) and when it's time to send her off to do some formal education, they're shocked to find that...the school that Max and Charles attended together has...It's not good.
Charles calls Alex and is all, "We can't send her there, think of all the children that are being deprived of vital schooling, it's so sad Alex, won't you think of the children. Anyway, Lewis already bought us some land in the wilderness of Canada and we have all of the permits and approval from the council already, so..."
And thats how George and Alex end up as Headmaster's of The Hamilton School for Preternatural Creatures. (There might be half a fic floating around in my brain about that, but don't push it. Ok. I can't take that on right now. *crosses fingers behind my back*)

Tagged by @wunderlichkind and @33max to list three things I'm proud of myself for this year! This was a really hard year for me, but I made it through and there was a lot of good as well.
1. Wrote consistently.
Pretty self explanatory - I wrote a lot this year and met deadlines, something I am very proud of.
2. Organized fandom spaces.
I helped with the F1 Fantasy Fest, started the Maxiel Mpreg Fic Fest, and began two servers that I love dearly, the Hornywolff server (which has brought me SO MUCH JOY and a lot of fun movie nights, love you all) and the f1 crafting server (which is a baby but which I had so much fun making and have so much planned for).
3. Took care of myself.
The end of this year brought a new diagnosis and new treatments for my mental health. Without going into details, walking into that appointment was so difficult and I'm both proud and glad that I did it.
And finally - I survived! This was truly a year of embodying the Mountain Goats' classic line - "I am gonna make it through this year if it kills me". Well. I did and it didn't. Happy new year.

I just finished my first draft for Fantasy Fic Fest and I’m still in a mood.
I had two ideas for FFF and one didn’t make the cut so I’m gonna write y’all a little snippet and ask if you’d want more? (Also I’m committed to academia Carlos and I won’t back down.)
Pairing: Carlando
The house was dirt cheap and that’s why Carlos rented it. He had been living in house shares and flats for 10 years and maybe the fact that this house was the same price as some of the studio apartments in town should have told him something, but he had allowed himself to be taken in by the original wood floors and the high ceilings and the landlord who was so desperate for someone to move in that he waived the security deposit.
Carlos moves in on a Sunday and his first day at the university is on Wednesday, but he’s not unpacked until two weeks later and that’s when he really starts to notice things.
Until then he had been able to brush it off. He didn’t remember putting his glasses down on the counter, but he couldn’t really remember where anything was since it was mostly boxes and clutter anyway. He doesn’t think he left his egg pan in the kitchen floor, but maybe he knocked it off in a rush and he just doesn’t remember because it’s been such a whirlwind of a new semester and a new school. And he’s really just not sleeping well. It’s the old house, he tells himself. He’s not used to old house noises. And neither is Piñon.
By the end of September, he has to admit to himself that something is wrong. He’s a man of science, but there is no scientific explanation as to why one room of his house is 30 degrees colder than all the others every though he bought a space heater for it. He doesn’t know why the office doors slam shut randomly. The things in the kitchen rattle incessantly if he leaves anything in the sink. Piñon shivers underneath his bed randomly.
He admits to himself that something is very wrong, but he’s embarrassed by it and doesn’t want to be seen as a kook by his colleagues so he keeps it to himself.
He goes to parties and dinners and faculty meetings and he says his new house is nice and full of character and when he agrees to host a group of PhD candidates for an award thing dinner with a catered meal, he doesn’t expect to learn that he’s living in the town’s haunted house.
It’s a tall PhD candidate named George who is wearing a fucking bow tie that leans over and says, “You know that ghost show on YouTube said once that they wanted to do an episode here. Since you’re on the most haunted list for the Northeast.” He looks supremely proud of himself.
Carlos barely keeps it together long enough to hand him a glass of tea and he’s barely out of the room when the tea carafe is tipped over and Carlos has to save it. Fucking haunted fucking house, of course.
After the students clear out, Carlos googles his own address and stares as result after result comes up and he reads in horror. Mysterious deaths. Suicides. Missing children. Hauntings. Carlos is so confused because the most that he’s experienced is his belongings being moved and a severe lack of sleep.
He clicks over to videos and there’s a clip of the cutest curly haired human being he’s ever seen in his life. He’s standing in front of Carlos’ house but everything is covered in snow so it’s not recent.
“And this is the ultimate. Cloaked in mystery and legend, no one has ever been granted permission to film inside, so we only have very limited data and a few photographs.” His adorable little Californian accent says.
Carlos is entranced and before he can stop himself, he’s looking at the YouTube channel - Lando. His name is Lando. And Carlos is emailing him with an attached picture of himself and Piñon on the front steps the day he moved in. He tells him that Lando is more than welcome to come and look around, but no cameras.
He shuts his laptop down, embarrassed that the draw of Lando was that great. He just needs to go on a date. Get laid. Stop thinking about beautiful YouTubers who make ghost shows.
He means to fall asleep immediately, but Piñon is shaking again and it’s very cold and maybe Lando does need to come and sort out the haunting.

Trick or Treat from your #1 werewolfierre stan and longtime lover of the blue neighborhood 💙
It’s truly actually cuckoo to me that the majority of BN was sitting in docs this time last year. Most of my planning was complete and I was just…vibing with my stories.
I was obviously very influenced by Troye’s music. I took literal lines from the songs and plots from the original trilogy from his artistry, but beyond that I’ll tell you what my motivations were for writing each part.
The original trilogy was obviously planned as a trilogy and I knew there would be strong supporting characters included.
I am obviously a person touched by grief and I am intimately familiar with mourning the potential life you could live alongside someone, but then in the spring of 2022, I found myself mourning a future reconciliation instead of a parallel life and I wanted to highlight that.
I wanted to showcase the kind of love and support that had carried my partner and I through a terrible moment in our lives.
I had been thinking about writing this trilogy for a long time, but it wasn’t until I wrote my first f1 fic that everything started clicking and I just made the decision to write the damn thing.
The Piarles piece was 100% selfish. I was writing a Piarles fantasy fest fic and just…loved their dynamic and I knew I wanted to at least write a smaller companion piece, but once I started writing, I just couldn’t stop.
The Carlando piece was and is for my IRL bestie who didn’t know she was bi until her 30’s. It’s again from an entirely selfish place but I really wanted to tell the kind of story that is about being in love with your best friend in your own time.
The Galex piece literally came out of a therapy session. I’ve been in a relationship for 10 years and that’s a long time to have a lot of ups and downs. I was kind of in a personal low and I was talking with my therapist about all the low points of my life and then the highs that came after and one of my highs came after a massive disconnect in my own relationship. It’s a truly underrepresented dynamic in fic and I wanted to showcase that.
The epilogue was originally going to be 2k tacked onto the end of Galex but I…I wrote that 2k part and I read it back and went…no. No way. It deserves the moment in the sun. It deserves to be self indulgent and everything we wanted it to be, so I wrote it.
The drabbles and the Carly fics were SELFISH as hell but they fit in the story I wanted to tell and they were just again, massively self indulgent.

So, RIGHT NOW the plan is that the Piarles fic and the Maxiel fic will wrap up in the same weekend.
I will write the Carlando fic.
And then the Galex fic.
And because I’m not going to be writing two different pairings going through two COMPLETELY different emotions, I will probably write those much faster and bang them out. They’re both 100% plotted and…I have the entire ending of the verse (last chapter of the galex fic) completely written. 😵💫
