One thing I’ve noticed about people in or entering their 30s is they don’t make as many compromises anymore. If someone doesn’t meet them halfway, is not up to standard, is just not where they’re needed to be, they’re just like “ok cool” and they move on from the person. Which is not to say they’re less empathetic or understanding, but more that they have learned that time is their most prized possession and they’re not willing to make massive compromises on it. They are not obsessed w the idea of fixing someone (bc the concept of fixing a person doesn’t really exist). They simply move on to someone who is up to par. I want that. I want to always move w the awareness that time is my most priceless belonging and I can never buy it back. Ever. So I have to use it wisely

i know there are people who complain that quintonreviews doesn't do interesting media analysis, but to me his videos aren't for making a well-constructed argument. there are a lot of video essayists who do that and do it well. the absurdly long nickelodeon videos are for indulging in one of my favorite pastimes: listening to someone explain the bizarre plot of a tv show I'll never watch in excruciating detail while getting incandescently, hilariously angry for reasons that take more time to explain than the run time of the source material.

i dont really care for 'the women and children' as a cohesive group because i believe we primarily invoke it to suggest an ontology of essential vulnerability and inability to resist that is mirrored in the adult mans supposed essential invulnerability and inability not to resist. that is, they are always resisting, they are always a threat, and in the case of arab men murdered by american drones, to name one example, they are always "enemy combatants".
it suggests no woman or child could ever pose more of a threat than the least threatening adult man, could ever accomplish anything meaningful in any armed struggle, and epistemologically relegates these groups to support roles.
it also suggests no adult man could ever put down their arms, be disarmed, or lose their status as the same threat women and children are said to fundamentally lack. to become a non-combatant.
we try to talk about non-combatants to make points about their greater relative innocence but cannot extend this grace to adult men under this racialized and gendered ontology because it is precisely the guilt of combatants (adult men) that gives (counter)weight to the innocence of the women and children (non-combatants) and makes it relative.
all palestinian men are innocent of the "crime" of being palestinian men! they are not all combatants! all combatants are innocent of the "crime" (un recognized right) of resisting occupation! the women and children of palestine can and are resisting genocide! the ones who rely on the ability of others to resist for them are not guilty of "holding back" just as much as they are not "more innocent" for not participating in this struggle, regardless of whether they are children, women, or men.
all palestinians are innocent and anyone can resist.

saw someone on here describe reading as a passive activity. and like no judgement on this person but I think we have fundamentally different relationships to reading

there's something actually really hilarious about how pumped we all were for the return of beloved NPCs like Ayda, Jawbone, Aguefort, Gilear, etc and the first episode features absolutely none of them and instead gave us a crop of lovable and completely expendable New Guys

There's a weirdly poignant sort of... metaphysical tragedy in the fact that pain, which evolved as a helpful signal to alert us when bad things might be happening to us, grew into becoming... well, basically the Bad Thing. To the point where by universal consensus the very worst thing you can do to a being like us is torture them (i.e. trigger the warning signal as strongly as possible while perhaps deliberately avoiding causing "actual" harm). And there are tons of illnesses and injuries and disabilities that massively impact people's quality of life, ranging from annoying to depressing to driving people to suicide, basically purely because they're very physically painful, while the underlying bodily dysfunction that the pain is supposedly "warning" of is either relatively minor or literally non-existent.
The capacity to feel pain is a good and important thing, some people lack it and that's generally awful for them, only in a universe unrecognizably different from ours could we ever do without it. But isn't it awful to think how if only there was somebody up there to adjust the settings for us, they'd probably only have to tweak them the tiniest bit to keep 99.99% of the benefits while saving us from all the most extreme miseries forever?
The mechanism didn't have to be perfect for natural selection's purposes, it had to be good enough that the average individual in the average situation would be motivated to stay more or less out of trouble. Measured by the metrics nature was working towards, she could afford to be a little slapdash with the exact implementation, and she was. In doing so she opened the door to infinities of evil and suffering that wouldn't otherwise be conceivable. All this only had one chance to happen, and it happened that way. There's nobody to be mad at--I'm mad about it, though.

Ok I’m freaking out over the quirk shenanigans going by on in this chapter… but isn’t it something that Overhaul with his disassemble/reassemble quirk didn’t give two shits about his underlings’ health and wellbeing since he could put them back together if he needed them…
Tumblr media
…but Tomura with only the modified disassemble part of that quirk treated his team like they were precious and worth fighting for?
