I think the funniest transgender headcanon for TLT is pre-lyctorhood Pyrrha Dve. She put so much goddamn effort into transitioning and then one day she woke up in Gideon the First's body like "aw dude what the FUCK? I have to do all that shit AGAIN??"

he will stop at nothing. he will climb on top of you and on your nightstand and knock over anything in his path to reach that treasure chest full of delicious, bleached kleenex. he will put his little paws in the slit to drag out its precious fluffy entrails so he can rip and tear it to shreds, purring like a fucking geiger counter in between the wet smacking sounds as he tries to swallow it despite the way it's plastered to the roof of his mouth.
what do you do.

love to deploy something to production while telling the head of engineering "listen, when you guys built this thing about a decade ago you didn't make it capture any metrics, so I had to really guess about the throughput, and if I got it wrong then it will explode horribly in the morning, but the good news is that I'm the one on-call so it's ultimately my problem if that happens anyway"

he's not even a supervillain, he's just a regular guy whose power is that within a five mile radius the laws of irony are real. he's on a perpetual road trip in his rv because if he lives in the same place for too long someone will try to murder him to make it stop. he tried to have a #vanlife youtube channel but got banned for public safety because disasters kept happening hilariously in the background. black knight pays him to stay away from him so he's doing fine.

subtext is not the author being underhanded or deceptive. it is them making a deliberate decision in how things are conveyed to the audience. that decision is sometimes made for different reasons, some better than others, but there's a reason we don't follow up jokes with a paragraph explaining the punchline. believe it or not this same rule applies to metaphor and simile.
this is high school english tier shit.

for a character with a reputation of being extremely rational and logical, many of ludger's actions are actually quite emotionally motivated. even when he stays oblivious to his true emotions, there are still many instances where we can see how they unknowingly manifest in his actions and subtly influence his biases. i think ludger's second most toxic trait is that he tends to subconsciously cook up a seemly logical reason to spontaneously cover up his emotional ass because he cannot admit to himself that he feels emotions intensely.
exhibit A: his vengeance for arte's death required him to admit that he had a strong attachment to the kid, so he stated that eliminating the evil and offering solace to the victims were the actual reasons. counter: there were many better ways to deal with delica's incidents if his goal was simply enacting justice. even hans realised that this was a weak excuse to conceal his regrets.
exhibit B: his mercy towards aiden required him to admit his unwillingness to eliminate him, so he covered it up by reasoning that it would be too risky to take a student's life. counter: we know very well that he's fully capable of eliminating someone without leaving a trace if he puts his mind to the task.
exhibit C: his sparing casey's life twice required him to admit his disinclination to kill her, so instead, he reasoned that she was more useful alive and that her excessive pride wouldn't let her easily expose him to the public anyway. counter: strategically speaking, turning her against blackdawn was an obvious blunder. he didn't even need her to deal with them. plus, somehow he conveniently forgot at the moment that casey could still have told her best friend, terinna, about his identity regardless of the matter of pride and subjected him to even worse danger.
exhibit D: his taking owens under his wings and founding u.n. owen required him to admit his emotional bonds to them, so he claimed that he needed a strong fortress for his goals and his own protection, especially against the bretus. counter: considering his op-ness, he had never really needed protection. he also mainly tasked owens with leg work while dealing with most of the dangers by himself. he even ended up disbanding them to confront bretus on his own and telling them to prioritize their lives over his goals.
at first glance, his reasoning might seem sound and logical, but if we look at them for more than ten seconds, they are actually quite flimsy and contradictory. this is not to say he's inherently an idiot or a terrible liar. ludger's capability of reasoning is proven comparable to that of casey. he is also an excellent liar when it comes to deliberately lying to someone. but how does one reason or lie about feelings that they themselves are not even aware of?
my hypothesis:
when his suppressed emotions subconsciously influence his biases and/or manifest into his actions, ludger needs to convince himself that he is still being logical, and thus, without even realising it, he tries to rationalize them and grab onto whatever reason that momentarily sounds in his mind: why was he so dedicated to teaching his students? he couldn't get caught half-assing his job, and he wanted to earn the trust of the president. why did he save esmeralda? quasimodo annoyed him, so he had to step in. why did he delay the first princess' orders and prioritize the students' safety during the attacks on the capital? it was the princess' trusted blade himself who suggested saving the students, and not him. why did he accept casey's companionship during his moriarty's era? it was an act, and he was simply getting into his character.
whether ludger wants to admit it or not, he has always been a person moving according to his emotions. and the actual reason why we see so many inconsistencies and hypocrisies in his actions when aligning all of them together with his own logic is that his reasonings are only flimsy excuses that his subconsciousness makes up on the fly to rationalize away his repressed emotions, i.e. his strong attachments to this world.

Something China is going to learn now is the Law of Fertility Stickiness - once fertility rates go down they do not go back up. Supposedly "short term" events like the 2008 recession in the US very often result in longer term new equilibriums. Its not an Iron Law ofc, but I expect absent radical policy changes (which China's current policy responses are not). These changes embed preferences and those preferences trickle out to societal expectations. So even as China repeals its family planning laws, there is not going to be a reversal.
The survey data for China is honestly staggering:
Lyman Stone: Only 38% of Chinese college students want to EVER have children. 34% among women. Guessing at true desires of "uncertain" respondents, average Chinese college women desires just 0.94 kids. College men 1.05. Chinese pronatalism will fail.
And of course wanting to "have kids" is very often only 1 child, a minimal balm (Though of course, grain of salt, college kids change their mind). This won't shift with the paltry policy response the CCP has put on offer so far. Combined with their no-sell immigration policy, while the whole world is experiencing a harsh demographic situation, China seems like its going to have the worst one in history so far for a major nation.

Terrible at Acting
Tumblr media
Basic storytelling groundwork: When Bow says Adora can’t act to save her life, he’s not revealing some heretofore unexamined element of Adora’s character. He’s talking about this:
Tumblr media
Reunion is our big example of Adora acting, and the ways in which she is bad (and good!) at it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To start with, it’s not a matter of personal scruples. Adora isn’t bothered by lying to Bow’s dads - she’s confused/anxious about WHY she’s being asked to lie (and considers the lie itself excessively “elaborate”), but she’s totally willing to play along.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In fact, as soon as she has a personal stake in the situation, she’s all in.
No, Adora’s difficulty with acting has nothing to do with excessive moral purity.
So why’s she so bad at it?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Three reasons.
Firstly (and most trivially): Because of her sheltered and setting-atypical childhood, Adora doesn’t really know what scholars are. So, she doesn’t have anything to base the act on, and can’t judge how well or badly she’s doing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Secondly: Adora can’t keep her story straight.
This isn’t simple absent-mindedness. Adora didn’t forget the backstory Bow gave her and panic; she delivers the history line with absolute confidence. She legitimately seems to think it’s an acceptable answer. Adora just... doesn’t see a problem with changing the details of her story, or having those details contradict.
Because Adora was raised under a regime of constant gas-lighting.
Adora’s “safety” and “happiness” in the Horde hinged on her ability to accept the things Shadow Weaver told her as The Truth - even as those things were incoherent, self-contradictory, or just blatantly false. So Adora learned not to question, to not try to put things into a consistent framework. To just accept what she is being told, here and now.
Adora can’t keep her story straight, not because “she’s kinda dumb” or has a bad memory, but because she does not expect reality to make sense - so of course her lies are going to be nonsensical.
When lying, Adora doesn’t reach for consistency, she reaches for truthiness; for things that feel “right” - things that are flattering, engaging, and affirming. George and Lance are very invested in History, so Adora mirrors that back at them.
Tumblr media
Annnd... that’s not strictly speaking bad acting? Like, it’s not ideal. It’s definitely bad for Adora herself, long term.
But in terms of trying to fool people? Confidence and flattery get you a lot farther than having an airtight alibi. Adora acts like this is normal and makes sense and ... it works. George and Lance both accept the absurd band-aid of “triple major” and move on.
Tumblr media
Thirdly (and most significantly): Adora gets lost in her role.
So. This lie, right here.
It’s pointless.
It doesn’t further either of her “real” goals: Confirming Bow is a Good Little Future Historian, figuring out what “Serenia” means.
Or, well. It’s pointless if you assume Adora is treating this as an act. Because the goal this does advance is “Show Off What A Good Scholar Adora Is”
Tumblr media
And Adora really, really cares about that, because as far as she’s concerned? She is a scholar.
Adora is bad at acting, not because she is too moral and rational to lie successfully, but because she suffers from catastrophic levels of bleed. She can’t separate herself from the role she is playing, and that lack of boundary causes... problems.
Tumblr media
It means she can’t feign ignorance - she legitimately doesn’t seem to understand that “Adora the scholar” would not be privy to the same information as “Adora the She-Ra”.
Tumblr media
And it means she is deeply invested in people liking her adopted persona.
Tumblr media
She wants people think she is the best, the most skilled and knowledgeable. She wants them to be impressed by her performance in her false role.
Tumblr media
Even when that undermines the reasons took on the role in the first place.
Tumblr media
She is driven to show off, to recklessly over-reach.
Tumblr media
And in doing so, she ultimately shatters the lies holding her act together.

The Slagzogg
Tumblr media
I have a guess as to the real identity of this one. I will not purport it to be a good guess, but it checks out, I think, with at least one aspect of the original description. But enough of that.
The Slagzogg
Slagzoggs (genus Slagzogg) are a kind of bird native to Europe and North America. There are several species of Slagzogg, most of which are grey or primarily grey in color, and several of these species have been domesticated and bred to produce striking appearances. Nearly all species of Slagzogg have a crest of long feathers on the back of their head, though it is often sparse in wild breeds compared to that of a domesticated Slagzogg.
Slagzoggs can be active at any time of day or night, but they are primarily crepuscular. During the evening and early morning, they will call out to other Slagzoggs with a distinctive, loud "cackle." While Slagzoggs also possess songs unique to each species, which they use to find mates, their "cackle" is shared between all species, wild and domesticated, and seems to be a means of sharing information about the state of their environments, with unique calls to indicate dangers, abundances of food, and the death of other Slagzoggs.
A Slagzogg's diet consists primarily of grains and seeds, though they will also eat insects when the opportunity arises. They are social birds, and flocks of them will often all nest in the same location, with different individuals staying up at different times to keep watch over their nests, eggs, and chicks.
Slagzoggs were first domesticated for use in tracking down quarry—both animals and humans. Their sharp sense of smell and ability to find their way in any level of light made them ideal companions for such a task. In modern times, however, this use has been lost to all but a few hobbyists, and domesticated Slagzoggs are more often bred for show, creating such extravagant breeds as the French Short-Billed Turkey Slagzogg and the Northeastern Starship.

also we are four (4) episodes from the end of mysterious lotus casebook and: why is tumblr not obsessed with this show.
identity shenanigans. a chronically ill cunt(affectionate) of a man who wakes up every day and chooses violence lies and is secretly a burnt out former famous genius swordsman. a himbo trust fund baby who is incredibly sweet, also kind of a cunt(affectionate), and has the highest onscreen body count in the series. a (kinda ex) supervillain who is obsessed with the chronically ill cunt and comes out of his ten year coma to nearly immediately follow him around like a badly domesticated cat. daddy issues. found family. murder mysteries. even more identity shenanigans.
everyone they meet is nearly instantly obsessed with the chronically ill cunt, who spends the first half of the series trying (and failing) to dodge the plot in favour of his own personal mission, and then the second half of the series being increasingly traumatised by the plot and also Having Realisations (and then breakdowns about them).
I am fully losing my fucking mind about this show. it is rewiring my brain. please watch it it is so good.
